🥎 Aguilar, McKinney Sweep AAC weekly honors

WICHITA, Kan. - For the second time this season Wichita State has swept American Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors. Alex Aguilar and Sydney McKinney picked up the weekly honors after going 4-0 last week.

McKinney makes it back-to-back weeks as the American Player of the Week and third time overall in 2023. The nation's leading hitter went 9-for-13 over four games, slashing .692/.722/1.077. She was responsible for 18 runs (9 RBI, 9 runs scored) behind a triple, home run, four walks and a pair of stolen bases. In Wichita State's upset of No. 2 Oklahoma State, McKinney was 2-for-4 with an RBI. To open the Memphis series, she was 2-for-3 with a triple, two walks, four runs and four RBI. After a 2-for-2 afternoon in Friday's win, McKinney recorded a three-hit game, including a home run, two RBI and three runs in the series finale.

Aguilar notched her second Pitcher of the Week honor after tossing 11.0 scoreless innings in two appearances over the weekend. Aguilar was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and eight strikeouts. The Texas native registered he fifth complete game shutout of the season in Wichita State's 20-0 win at Memphis. She allowed only three hits in opener. Aguilar then pitched 6.0 innings of shutout relief in the series finale behind five strikeouts.

Wichita State will rest up before hosting Houston this weekend at Wilkins Stadium. The series begins Friday night at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
