LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) —&nbsp;KJ Adams Jr. scored a career-high 22 points and No. 2 Kansas closed the game on an 18-4 run to beat Oklahoma 79-75 on Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

It wasn’t easy, but in what Kansas coach Bill Self calls “a monster league,” a win is a win.

“Give OU credit,” Self said. “They did everything you’re supposed to do to win a game on the road. They controlled tempo. They played smart. For the most part, they took care of the ball. They did a lot of good things. What else could they have done?

“We’re so happy that we won, but that’s about as poor as we’ve played in a long time.”

Kansas (15-1, 4-0 Big 12) got 17 points from Jalen Wilson, 11 from Dajuan Harris Jr. and 10 from Zach Clemence. The Jayhawks have now won 22 straight games against Oklahoma in Allen Fieldhouse, including 16 straight under coach Bill Self.

“We’ve been battle tested so much this year, especially with close games, we always find a way to stay composed,” Wilson said. “We just continued to play our ball. There’s no 10-point play, so there’s no point in rushing the shots.

“There wasn’t a time when I thought the game was over, because I know we’re always going to find a way to win.”

Oklahoma (10-6, 1-3 Big 12) was led by Grant Sherfield’s season-high 25 points. Sam Godwin added 12 points, Milos Uzan had 11 and Tanner Groves had 10.

Kansas led by as many as seven points early in the second half, but Oklahoma used a 6-0 run to take a 50-48 lead with 14:12 left. The Sooners were still up, 56-53, with 11:20 left in the game when Groves picked up his fourth foul.

Oklahoma hung tough, and led 61-56 with about 9 minutes left as Adams was called for his fourth foul. The Sooners’ largest lead of the game — 71-61 — came with 5:19 left.

But Kansas went on a run that’s almost expected when it’s playing at home.

“When something good happens (for Kansas) down the stretch it’s hard to communicate because it’s so loud,” Oklahoma coach Porter Moser said. “There’s a belief in here from the fan base. That snowball starts going downhill.”

Kansas went more than 12 minutes without a field goal in the second half, but Adams ended that streak with a thunderous dunk at the 5:06 mark.

“Juan does that pass all the time so I was waiting for it,” Adams said. “Then Allen Fieldhouse did what they did and got really loud. That gave us a lot of confidence to finish the game.”

A 3-pointer by Wilson cut the deficit to 71-66 and Harris’ layup trimmed it to just 3 points.

After the teams traded buckets, Wilson found Adams underneath for a dunk to cut Oklahoma’s lead to one. Following an OU miss, Kevin McCullar Jr. was fouled on a successful drive to the hoop and his free throw gave Kansas a 75-73 lead.

“I do think it’s this place, but sometimes when you talk about this place you don’t give enough credit to the players,” Self said. “There were some guys making some plays. Kevin McCullar hadn’t done much at all, then he had that unbelievable drive.”

Oklahoma: Hosts West Virginia on Saturday.

Kansas: Hosts No. 14 Iowa State on Saturday.

WICHITA, Kan. — The National Baseball Congress World Series, powered by Evergy, and Wichita State University announced a two-year partnership, solidifying a home in Wichita for the historic tournament for 2023 and 2024.

“We are thrilled to call Eck Stadium home for the next two years, and to bring the tournament fully back to Wichita” said NBC Tournament Director Katie Woods, “Wichita has been the home of the NBC since 1935, and the Wichita State athletic department has been great partners as we work to make the 89th&nbsp;year a fantastic one for both teams and fans.”

The NBC World Series is the country’s premier summer collegiate baseball tournament, and features teams from across the United States annually. The NBCWS was founded in 1935 by Hap Dumont in Wichita and was played at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium through 2018. Known for its unique promotions and high-quality baseball, the National Baseball Congress has had more than 800 former players go on to play Major League Baseball.

“Wichita State Athletics is honored and blessed to continue our long-standing partnership with and support of the NBC Tournament,” said Senior Associate Director of Athletics Brad Pittman.&nbsp; “Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field, is a premier collegiate baseball facility capable of providing a first-class student-athlete and participant experience.”

Sixteen teams are slated to participate in the 2023 NBC World Series, with bids being announced over the summer, prior to the tournament. Defending champion Santa Barbara Foresters (CA), as well as the runner up Hays Larks (KS), both receive guaranteed bids for their finishes in the 2022 NBC World Series.

“For 2023 we are focused on two things – improving the experience for fans by bringing back the fun and energy that the NBC has been known for in Wichita, and improving the team experience and competition,” said Woods. “On the team side that includes increasing team compensation by more than 25%, creating a team ambassador program, building a better network of transportation, meal and entertainment partners, and solidifying the bids earlier. For fans, that means a simpler ticketing format, bringing back the Coleman Hill experience where fans can bring their own food and (non-alcoholic) beverages, added entertainment, and more partnerships throughout the community.”

The Bulldogs knocked off&nbsp;TCU&nbsp;in the&nbsp;College Football Playoff&nbsp;national championship 65-7 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. By leading Georgia to its second consecutive national title, Smart earned himself another $1 million,&nbsp;according to Front Office Sports.

Georgia dominated TCU in every facet of Monday’s title game en route to the 58-point victory. The Bulldogs got another all-time performance from&nbsp;Stetson Bennett, who threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns in the air while rushing for two touchdowns on the ground, to win his second straight title.

In July, Georgia announced Smart signed the 10-year, $112 million contract — keeping him at his alma mater for the next decade.

“The University of Georgia Athletic Association and head football coach&nbsp;Kirby Smart have agreed to a contract extension through the 2031 season,”&nbsp;the statement read. “Under the new agreement, Coach Smart’s annual base salary and supplemental compensation for the upcoming 2022 campaign will be $10,250,000 with annual increases, culminating at $12,250,000 for the 2031 season.”

Additionally,&nbsp;Chris Low&nbsp;of&nbsp;ESPN&nbsp;put into context just how much Smart will be making under his new deal.

“Sources tell ESPN that&nbsp;@GeorgiaFootball&nbsp;coach Kirby Smart has agreed to a new 10-year deal worth a total of $112.5 million, making him one of the highest paid coaches in college football,”&nbsp;Low said.

Athletic director Josh Brooks also shared his excitement to sign Smart to the extension.

Michael  Bishop, who helped revolutionize the game of college football. One of the first premiere dual threat quarterbacks while playing for Kansas State 97 to 98 has been selected to the National Football Foundation's College Football Hall of Fame induction class of 2023.

 They will officially be inducted into the 65th Annual at Las Vegas December 5th, later this year. 

The Halstead Bentley USD  440 Board of Education voted 6 to O, with one person abstaining to terminate Chris Santora from the positions of the school based therapist, assistant golf coach and head boys basketball coach Monday night. 

Santoro says he was fired as Halstead's basketball coach in late December due to his therapist license expiring. He said he was working on getting it renewed.

UNDATED (AP) — The gains have come quickly for Kansas State under new coach Jerome Tang.

The 11th-ranked Wildcats haven’t lost in more than a month and turned two road wins against ranked Big 12 teams last week into Monday's headline-grabbing debut in the national rankings. They play Tuesday against Oklahoma State and then visit No. 17 TCU on Saturday as part of the national AP Top 25 schedule with their first ranking since the 2018-19 season.

“I am very happy for our fans and for our players and for our staff,” Tang said at a news conference Monday. “Our goal wasn’t to be a ranked team, but it is pretty cool that long the journey it happened.”

Tang had spent 19 seasons at Baylor before taking over at Kansas State, a program picked to finish last in the 10-team Big 12. But the Wildcats (14-1) dropped 116 points in a win at now-No. 10 Texas and claimed a high-scoring overtime win at Baylor last week, matching the program’s best start since the 1958-59 season.

While teams have gone from unranked to the top 10 before, NCAA director of media coordination and statistics David Worlock said Kansas State is the first to go from unranked to as high as No. 11 after the turn of a new year.

Keyontae Johnson averages a team-high 18.8 points, while No. 2 scorer Markquis Nowell posted two huge performances (36 points against Texas, 32 against Baylor) in last week’s wins. Kansas State enters the week with eight straight wins and its first 3-0 start in Big 12 play since the 2012-13 season, and has already matched last season's win total in Bruce Weber's final year.

The Big 12 is tied with the Southeastern Conference for the most ranked teams with five each, and Kansas State isn’t the only one of those meeting Top 25 opponents. The Longhorns host TCU on Wednesday, while No. 2 Kansas hosts No. 14 Iowa State on Saturday.

Fourth-ranked Alabama has moved to the top of the SEC’s ranked teams, just ahead of Tennessee in the Volunteers’ first appearance this season inside the top 5. The Crimson Tide visit No. 15 Arkansas on Wednesday for the week’s top matchup, though the Volunteers have a noteworthy Saturday visit from unranked Kentucky.

No. 25 Marquette joined No. 19 Providence as the Big East’s two additions to Monday’s latest poll. The Golden Eagles won’t have an easy week back in the AP Top 25 schedule with Wednesday’s visit from sixth-ranked Connecticut and Sunday’s trip to No. 12 Xavier.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Stetson Bennett flashed a wry grin as he walked off the field, stopping to hug coach Kirby Smart as the crowd roared.

It was all standing ovations and sideline snacks in the fourth quarter of college football’s most lopsided title game.

In emphatic and overwhelming fashion, Georgia became the first team to repeat as College Football Playoff national champions and left no doubt the ’Dawgs are the new bullies on the block.

Bennett threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores — in the first half — as No. 1 Georgia demolished No. 3 TCU 65-7 on Monday night.

The Bulldogs (15-0) are the first repeat champs in major college football since Alabama went back-to-back a decade ago. There appears to be a new dynasty emerging from the Southeastern Conference.

“We wanted our kids to play without fear,” Smart said. “All year I told them, I said, ‘We ain’t getting hunted guys, we’re doing the hunting, and hunting season’s almost over. We’ve only got one more chance to hunt,' and we hunted tonight.”

TCU (13-2), the first Cinderella team of the playoff era, never had a chance against the Georgia juggernaut. Unlike Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal, the Bulldogs would not succumb to the Hypnotoads' spell.

Georgia turned in one of the all-time beatdowns in a big game, reminiscent of Nebraska running over Florida by 38 in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl, USC's 36-point rout of Oklahoma in the 2005 Orange Bowl and Alabama's 28-point BCS blowout over Notre Dame in 2013.

Too much talent. Too well-coached. Two straight titles for the ’Dawgs.

No team has ever scored more points in a national championship game, dating to the beginning of the BCS in 1998.

With 13:25 left in the fourth quarter, Smart called timeout in the middle of an offensive drive so Bennett could exit to hero’s ovation in the final game of his circuitous college career.

“That was special,” said Bennett, who finished 18 for 25 for 304 yards and four touchdown passes. “I’ll remember that for the rest of my life.”

Georgia offensive linemen were munching on chicken wings on the sideline as the game wound down. Then, for the second straight year, the Bulldogs were showered by confetti and presented a championship trophy.

“I love this team, I love those fans, I love our band. I love everybody,” Bennett said during the presentation ceremony. “Back-to-back, baby. Back-to-back.”

Smart is now 81-15 in his first seven seasons at Georgia with two national titles. His mentor, Alabama coach Nick Saban, was 79-15 with three titles in his first seven seasons with the Tide.

The Bulldogs were a different kind of dominant this season after losing 15 NFL draft picks from the 2021 team: not quite as stingy on defense, but more explosive on offense.

“Last year’s team probably had more talent on it,” Smart said. "But this year’s team was different, like they had this eye of the tiger. They weren’t going to lose.”

Earlier in Smart’s tenure at his alma mater, Georgia fans worried about whether the former defensive coordinator for Saban would be able to build an offense to match this high-scoring era of college football.

Under third-year coordinator Todd Monken, the Bulldogs have become prolific, creative and diverse offensively. They picked apart TCU’s 3-3-5 defense from all angles.

Versatile tight end Brock Bowers had seven catches for 152 yards. Receiver Ladd McConkey caught two TDs. Georgia ran for 254 yards with seven players gaining at least 10.

The Bulldogs scored all six times they touched the ball in the first half. Twice Bennett ran it in himself; the former walk-on turned two-time national champion was barely touched on the two quarterback keepers.

He hit a wide-open McConkey for a 34-yard score in the first quarter, a perfectly executed play out of a bunched formation that had TCU’s defensive backs in disarray. Bennett’s 22-yard score to Adonai Mitchell was a higher degree of difficulty, dropped in over a defender who had tight coverage.

It looked a lot like the Bennett-to-Mitchell touchdown that gave Georgia a fourth-quarter lead it would not relinquish against Alabama in last year’s CFP title game.

Georgia vanquished the Tide to break a 41-year national title drought last season, avenging its only regular-season loss in the process.

There was no such drama against the upstart Horned Frogs.

“The journey was great. It’s something I’ll never forget,” TCU running back Emari Demercado said. “Obviously, didn’t end how we wanted it, but at the end of the day this journey was something great.”

These Bulldogs never had to worry about Alabama. They rolled through the SEC, survived Ohio State in a classic CFP semifinal and then completed a perfect season with an historic blowout.

“Do you have to take a loss to learn?” Smart said. “I mean, why?”

Bennett hit Bowers for a 22-yard score with 10:52 left in the third quarter to make it 45-7. The sophomore from Northern California signaled touchdown while lying on the turf at Sofi Stadium. Bennett smiled as he tapped helmets with one of his linemen.

“He's got GOAT status and in Athens, Georgia forever,” Smart said.

Georgia’s famous bulldog mascot UGA could not make cross-country trip to root on his team, but it still felt a little like Sanford Stadium in SoCal.

Many of the TCU fans cleared out with more than half the fourth quarter left, choosing to venture out into a rainy and chilly night rather than watch any more of the massive mismatch.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t make a better show tonight because that’s not indicative of who we are. But we’ll look back — it’s going to take some time for the sting to go away, I assure you — but we’ll look back on the season and build on it from here,” first-year coach Sonny Dykes said.

Heisman Trophy runner-up Max Duggan threw two first-half interceptions in the final game of his roller-coaster TCU career. A four-year starter who never played in a bowl before this season, Duggan led TCU on one of the most improbable runs in college football history.

Unranked after a losing 2021 season and picked seventh in the Big 12, the Frogs won nine games by 10 or fewer points. They were within a victory of the program’s first national title since 1938.

KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs worked hard to get the AFC’s top seed, but might not get the coveted home-field advantage in the conference championship that comes with being No. 1. The Chiefs made sure to take care of the business of capturing the No. 1 seed with the 31-13 victory at Las Vegas. If Kansas City faces the Bills in the AFC championship, that game will be played at a neutral site because Buffalo’s game at Cincinnati on Jan. 2 was declared a no-contest.

Interim coach Rodney Terry now has a chance to make as a candidate for the job full time.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Doctors who treated Damar Hamlin say the Bills safety was moved to a hospital in Buffalo to continue his recovery. It's an uplifting sign of the remarkable progress Hamlin has made a week after going into cardiac arrest and having to be resuscitated on the field during a game in Cincinnati. Hamlin was discharged from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in the morning and flown to Buffalo, where Dr. William Knight said he was "doing well.” Hamlin’s return comes a day after he cheered on the Bills from his hospital bed during their 35-23 win over the New England Patriots. The game proved to be a cathartic outpouring of support for the Bills and Hamlin.

KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia (AP) — Staying awake might be Mikaela Shiffrin’s biggest challenge as she prepares to try to set a record for women’s World Cup skiing victories. Shiffrin poured out her emotions after matching Lindsey Vonn with career win No. 82 in an early morning giant slalom in Slovenia on Sunday and now needs to refocus and shift her sleeping patterns in time for a slalom to be held under the lights in Austria on Tuesday. KANSAS CITY, Mo.— The Kansas City Royals announced this morning their home game times for the 2023 regular season schedule. Opening Day is set for Thursday, March 30 at 3:10 p.m. CT vs. the Minnesota Twins at Kauffman Stadium. The opening series will continue Saturday, April 1 at 3:10 p.m. CT and on Sunday, April 2 at 1:10 p.m. CT.

In the months of April, May and September, the Royals will host 16 weeknight games beginning at 6:40 p.m. CT. Of the remaining 65 home games, all but two will begin at 10 minutes past the hour, the only exceptions being 6:15 p.m. CT starts on Saturday, July 1 vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers and Saturday, Aug. 12 vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.

In addition to Opening Day, there are 11 weekday home games, which are scheduled for 1:10 p.m. CT.

All 12 Friday home games are scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CT, as are all weeknight home games during the months of June, July and August. Five of the Royals first six Saturday home games will begin at 3:10 p.m. CT. Following the All-Star break, the remaining six Saturday home games are scheduled for 6:10 p.m. CT. INMAN, Kan. —On a chilly Saturday morning, 85 Disc Golfers descended on Lambert Park in Inman to participate in the 8th&nbsp;Annual Disc Golf Food Drive tournament.&nbsp; 

“This was the biggest group of Disc Golfers we’ve ever had on the Inman course,” said tournament director Bentley Richert.&nbsp; The tournament, held on January 7th, drew competitors from 23 different communities.&nbsp; 

In addition to the local communities, Disc Golfers drove to Inman from Wichita, Salina, Manhattan, Great Bend, and Winfield to name a few.&nbsp; Hoxie was the farthest distance a competitor traveled from.&nbsp; 

The Food Drive tournaments, sanctioned by the Kansas Disc Golf Association, take place early in the year, to raise money and non perishable items for local food banks.&nbsp; “Following the tournament,” Richert said, “we were able to deliver nearly 700 food items and over $2,000 to area food banks.”&nbsp; The contributions from the Inman Food Drive tournament were split between the Inman Food Pantry and the FBC-Hutch Pantry.&nbsp; 

“Disc Golfers are such a giving community,” Richert replied.&nbsp; “I’m always amazed at how many food and household items are brought to the tournament each year.”&nbsp; The Inman Food Drive is annually one of the top tournaments in contributors to local food banks.&nbsp; Approximately 25 tournaments are held each year across Kansas.

In the Disc Golf tournament, the winners included: &nbsp;Women’s Champion Christine Stewart from Valley Center with a 49.&nbsp; Junior Champion, CJ Engle from Hutchinson with a 49.&nbsp; The Men’s division featured 4 flights.&nbsp; 4th&nbsp;Flight winner was Jon Robinson, from Little River with a 61.&nbsp; 3rd&nbsp;Flight went to Nathan Cunningham of Salina with a 55.&nbsp; 2nd&nbsp;Flight winner was Thomas Wilson from Salina with a 52.&nbsp; In the Championship Flight, Kevin Nuefeld from Inman took third, and Tate Galloway from McPherson second, both with 45s.&nbsp; And the Tournament Champion was Ronnie Unruh from Wichita, throwing a 44.

Richert also wanted to thank the many Inman area businesses who supported the tournament through sponsorships and raffle prizes.

Buffalo’s 35-23 win over New England on Sunday coupled with Kansas City’s 31-13 victory at Las Vegas on Saturday means the No. 1 seed Chiefs (14-3) can’t host the conference title game against the Bills (13-3) because the teams played an unequal number of games.

NFL owners approved a resolution Friday that implemented new rules for this postseason in response to the cancellation of the Bills-Bengals game after Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field Monday night.

The Bills were trailing the Bengals 7-3 in the first quarter when Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and needed to be resuscitated after making a tackle. The league chose to cancel the game to avoid disrupting the start of the postseason and impacting the remainder of the playoff field.

The 24-year-old Hamlin is breathing fully on his own while also able to speak, though he was still listed in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. His neurological function was deemed excellent on Saturday.

If the Bills would’ve defeated the Bengals, they would have earned the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs because a 24-20 win in Kansas City in October gave Buffalo a tiebreaker edge. Instead, the Bills finished with the No. 2 seed and will host the Miami Dolphins (9-8) in a wild-card game next weekend.

The Bills lost a thrilling overtime game at Kansas City in the divisional round last year. The Chiefs have hosted the last four AFC championship games, going 2-2. They would host it again if their opponent is not Buffalo.

Cincinnati’s 27-16 win over Baltimore eliminated the rule change that called for a coin flip to determine home-field advantage for the Ravens-Bengals matchup in an AFC wild-card game.
