
HESSTON, Kan. — The Haven Wildcats and Hesston Swathers split a tough late season Central Kansas League doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Haven won the first game, 8-0, before Hesston bounced back to win the second game, 6-5.
Preston Sander picked up the win on the mound for the Wildcats, allowing just one Swather hit.
Haven (16-2) scored one in the first, two in the second, one in the fifth and then four more in the seventh for their eight runs.
The second game saw Hesston (13-5) jump out to a 3-0 lead after one inning. Haven tied the game up at three apiece in the fourth inning, but Hesston had an answer in the bottom of the inning to regain a 4-3 lead after four. After each team scored two in the fifth, the Swathers would hold on in the sixth and seventh to salvage the split.
Whit Rhodes had a big game for the Swathers in the second game, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double. Keagan Shelite earned the win after coming in relief. He tossed 2.1 innings, striking out six and walking just one.
