After suffering its first loss of the season, the Hutchinson Community College Women's Basketball team looks to hit the reset button heading into a short prep window for its next game on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons landed just outside the Top 10 in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings, coming in at No.12 in the nation after being ranked fourth last week.

Hutchinson lost to Cloud County 75-65 on Saturday in its first true road trip this season. The Blue Dragon women are 7-1 overall, 1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference after defeating Independence 61-53 in the league opener last Wednesday.

The top three in the rankings remained the same – Trinity Valley reigning at the top, Northwest Florida State at No. 2, and Blinn College No. 3. The Blue Dragons and Casper had the largest dips in the rankings by falling eight spots each. Eastern Arizona and Indian River State entered the rankings after not being ranked the week prior.

Among the Jayhawk, Barton rose one spot from No. 16 to No. 15. Dodge City moved up three spots from No. 25 to No. 22.

The Blue Dragon women hit the road for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff Tuesday against the Pratt Beavers.

The Jayhawk Conference champion Hutchinson Community College Football team will head into the NJCAA National Playoffs as the No. 1 team in the nation.

The final regular-regular season poll was released on Monday and the unbeaten Blue Dragons (10-0) stayed on top for the seventh-straight week and will play host to 1 of the 2 NJCAA National semifinals on the weekend of December 3rd at Gowans Stadium.

The official pairings with dates, times and opponent will be released by the NJCAA on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons received all 11 first-place votes in Monday's national rankings. Northwest Mississippi (10-1) is No. 2, followed by Iowa Western (8-2) at No. 3 and Coffeyville (8-2) at No. 4.

Snow College (8-2) defeated Lackawanna 30-7 on Saturday in Scranton, Pennsylvania, but the Badgers weren't able to pass Coffeyville into fourth place. The Blue Dragons defeated Snow 29-27 in the 2020-21 national championship game two seasons ago.

Butler was the third and final team from the KJCCC to be ranked. The Grizzlies are in a good spot to play in a postseason bowl game. Those matchups should also be released on Tuesday by the NJCAA.

This is the second time in three seasons the Blue Dragons head into the postseason as the No. 1 ranked team. Two seasons ago, there was no national semifinal round so the Blue Dragons and Badgers went directly to the national championship game, which was played at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Mahomes connected with Kelce for three touchdowns — including the go-ahead score with 31 seconds remaining — as the Kansas City Chiefs rallied past the Los Angeles Chargers 30-27 on Sunday night to stay atop the AFC.

Mahomes met Emmy Award-winning actor Henry Winkler before the game. Winkler, who played Fonzie for 12 seasons on the iconic television show “Happy Days”, received a signed jersey on the sideline. Kelce got in the act by wearing a t-shirt before the game that had a picture of The Fonz and said “Football. Family. Fonzie”.

When Mahomes and the Chiefs got the ball at the KC 25-yard line with 1:46 remaining, he had his usual cool and calm presence.

Allen, playing only his third game due to a nagging hamstring injury, had five receptions for 94 yards,&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1594541687291772929">including a 46-yard catch</a>&nbsp;up the right sideline on the go-ahead drive to put the ball on the Chiefs 16-yard line.

After receiving the opening kickoff, Texas got one first down before Kansas forced a punt. The Jayhawks brought on Jalon Daniels as the starting quarterback to the pleasure of the crowd. Daniels returned to the lineup after missing the previous four games with an injury.&nbsp;

Kansas would go three-and-out on each of its first two possessions, but were able to move the ball on the third drive of the game, which ended in a turnover on downs after eight plays. KU would drive into the Texas red zone on its next drive, and appeared to score a touchdown on a fourth-down pass from Daniels to Jared Casey. A penalty negated the touchdown, however, and a 34-yard field goal attempt was wide right as KU remained scoreless.&nbsp;

KU’s final drive of the first half ended in an interception and Texas took a 31-0 lead into halftime after scoring on five consecutive drives to close out the half. UT’s Bijan Robinson rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns in the first half as the Longhorns totaled 301 total yards, including 219 on the ground.&nbsp;

Kansas was able to get on the board in the third quarter on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Daniels to Torry Locklin. The touchdown capped a 7-play, 80-yard drive for Kansas that took up 3:16. Locklin’s touchdown catch was his second of the season.

On the ensuing offensive possession, Kansas drove 74 yards in four plays that ended with a 12-yard touchdown reception by Luke Grimm. The scoring play marked his fifth touchdown of the season. A 55-yard catch by Quentin Skinner set the Jayhawks up in the red zone.

Daniels finished 17-for-26 for 230 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in his return. Devin Neal led the rushing attack with 13 carries for 51 yards, while Skinner led the receivers with four receptions for 98 yards. Defensively, Kenny Logan Jr. led the Jayhawks with 10 tackles.

Kansas will close out the regular season with a trip to Manhattan, Kansas to take on the Kansas State Wildcats on Nov. 26. That game kicks off at 7 p.m. and will be televised by FOX.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.&nbsp;-&nbsp;No. 15 Kansas State scored on six of its first seven possessions and maintained its inside track for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game with a 48-31 win at West Virginia on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium. In one of the wildest first halves in a K-State game in years, the Wildcats raced and rolled to a 41-25 lead at halftime, then surrendered just one touchdown the rest of the way to emphatically earn their first victory in Morgantown since 2014. K-State, 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the Big 12, now must beat Kansas next Saturday to clinch a berth in the Big 12 title game against No. 4 TCU on December 3 at AT&amp;T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. "Just making it to that point is what we all come here for," said K-State wide receiver&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/football/roster/malik-knowles/7950">Malik Knowles</a>, who had six catches for 111 yards and one touchdown. "We don't want to just settle for a bowl game. CONCORDIA, Kan. — No. 4 Hutchinson pulled within two points with 8:16 remaining Saturday at Cloud County before the Thunderbirds went on a 13-0 run.

Hutchinson (7-1, 2-1) trailed by as many as 18 in the first half after leading for just one minute and 14 seconds. The T-Birds led for 93% of the contest behind 62 points in the paint.

Malang Athian made 13 of 15 baskets, including 13 of 13 inside the paint.

Athian's 27 points featured highlight dunk after highlight dunk, including two in the final minute that put the finishing touches on a dominating night for Cloud County (5-2, 2-0).

Jayden Garrison's first basket of the game came with 8:16 left in the contest. The three-ball pulled Hutchinson within 65-63 before the T-Birds scored the next 13 unanswered.

Cloud County finished the game on a 25-12 run.

Maimouna Sissoko scored easy buckets in the paint all afternoon and finished with 22 points. She hit 10 of 19 shots from the floor and finished with 10 reobunds.

Alize Ruiz added 20 points while Te Araroa Sopoaga put in 15.

The Thunderbirds (6-1, 2-0) shot 45.8% and held the Blue Dragons (7-1, 2-1) to 37.7% overall, and just 19% (4 of 21) from distance.

Hutchinson managed just eight points in the first quarter of play and fell behind 14 in the second quarter.

The Dragons pulled within 10 by the break and got as close as eight in the third quarter before the Thunderbirds shot out to a 15-point lead, Hutchinson's largest deficit of the season.

In the fourth, the Dragons pulled as close as seven before Williams and Journey Armstead fouled out.

Williams finished with just nine on 3 of 10 shooting.

🏀 WBB: No. 4 Dragons struggle on road

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fans usually expect a passing duel when Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs face Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. That might not be the case on Sunday night, with both teams unsure of who will line up at wide receiver.

The Chiefs (7-2) won't have Mecole Hardman and likely will be missing JuJu Smith-Schuster for the prime-time showdown. Hardman was placed on injured reserve Thursday with an abdominal injury. Smith-Schuster remains in concussion protocol after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit in last week’s win over Jacksonville. Fellow receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been dealing with an illness.

The Chargers (5-4) can empathize. Keenan Allen has played in only two games due to a nagging left hamstring strain, and Mike Williams was out the last two weeks with a high right ankle sprain. Allen and Williams returned to practice this week, but both have taken part only in individual drills and are questionable.

Smith-Schuster, Hardman and Valdes-Scantling have 97 of the Chiefs’ 245 receptions. If they can't play, Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore and Justin Watson can expect bigger roles.

Toney, acquired from the New York Giants on Oct. 30, had four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown last Sunday against the Jaguars.

“We put guys in positions to succeed. And so for me, it’s about executing the offense, finding the open guy and getting the ball out of my hands, letting those guys make plays,” Mahomes said. “We’ve seen over the year that these guys can make plays in big moments. And so, we’ll give them those chances as well as have some younger guys step up.”

The Chargers have been inconsistent on offense all season. Herbert’s rib injury, which happened in a Week 2 loss to the Chiefs, affected his play for a couple of games, but the injuries to the receiving group have had a bigger impact.

DeAndre Carter and Joshua Palmer have stepped up at times, but Los Angeles has been lacking a deep threat, with most of the passes being screens, dump-offs, or within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage.

“For the people that are in the NFL, sometimes you just have to hang tough, and I think our group has done a really good job of that,” coach Brandon Staley said. “That’s just been the type of year it has been, but I think that our group is improving because we’re figuring out more ways to play. I think that is a positive with your group because it is reality.”

The Chargers need a win if they want a realistic shot at catching the AFC West-leading Chiefs.

A victory by Kansas City would give it a sweep of the season series and a three-game lead in the division with seven games left.

“We’re not looking ahead to being three games up, or whatever it is. We’re looking at what can we do to win today so that we can win on Sunday,” Mahomes said.

The Chiefs are 26-3 in games played in November or later since 2019. Meanwhile, the Chargers are 0-3 this season against teams with a winning record.

Derwin James had one of the hits of the year when he body-slammed Travis Kelce near the goal line late in the third quarter of the teams' first meeting. The tackle added another chapter to a competitive rivalry between the Chargers safety and the Chiefs tight end.

According to Next Gen Stats, James has covered Kelce on 36 snaps over their six matchups since 2018. Kelce has been targeted seven times and had only four receptions for 14 yards.

Against the rest of the Chargers’ defenders over the same period, Kelce has 45 receptions for 605 yards and four touchdowns.

“It’s always fun playing him. He knows who I am, and I know who he is,” said James, who had nine tackles in the Week 2 game. “Every week is fun whether it is (Kyle) Pitts, (George) Kittle or Kelce. Out of all of them, Kelce is probably the best one at getting open when the play breaks down and getting separation.”

Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has six touchdowns in his last three Sunday night games but didn’t find the end zone in last week’s 22-16 loss to San Francisco.

Ekeler leads NFL running backs with 67 catches and has four straight games with at least seven receptions.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) —&nbsp;Jalen Wilson scored a career-high 33 points and No. 6 Kansas survived a close contest against Southern Utah, hanging on for an 82-76 victory on Friday night.

Wilson set a career best for a second straight game after scoring 25 points in the Jayhawks’ 69-64 win over No. 7 Duke in Indianapolis on Tuesday night. The Thunderbirds (3-2) hung with Kansas (4-0) until the final minute at Allen Fieldhouse.

“He was terrific,” Acting Head Coach Norm Roberts said. “He was really efficient. He made some big plays for us.”

The Jayhawks had their biggest lead of the game, 77-69, with 2:11 remaining. Southern Utah responded with a 7-0 run, including five straight points by Tevian Jones, to get within one point with 1:03 left.

Gradey Dick’s 3-pointer with 40.6 seconds remaining made it 80-76 and Southern Utah didn’t make another basket.

“I knew it was a close game, obviously,” Dick said. “KJ (Adams) got the offensive rebound. I felt open and took the shot.”

Roberts coached his final game for Kansas in place of Bill Self, who served the last of his school-imposed four-game suspension.

He said he’s not concerned about how the Jayhawks will respond to the close game.

“We always turn negatives into positives,” he said. “I know Coach (Self) can’t wait to get into practice and get that started. It’s always good when you can get a win and learn from a win, rather than learning from a loss.

“Coach talks about this all the time. There’s going to be 10 games that you’re going to play lights-out and there’s no way you’re going to lose. There’s going to be 10 games that you’re going to be average and you’ve got to find a way to win. And then there’s going to be 10 games when you’re going to play bad. Now you’ve got to find a way to be 7-3 in those 10 games.

“Tonight was definitely one of those games.”

Jones scored 25 points for Southern Utah, Maizen Fausett added 14 and Harrison Butler had 12.

The Jayhawks got 18 points from Dick and 14 from Dajuan Harris Jr.

Southern Utah out-rebounded Kansas 45-41, including 14-6 on the offensive glass. The Thunderbirds hit four of their first seven 3-point attempts to build a 22-16 lead in the first half. Wilson had the final two baskets before halftime to give the Jayhawks a 41-39 edge.

“I was just trying to get the ball moving and get to the paint,” Wilson said. “I didn’t want to settle for shots. That’s something we emphasized. We knew they didn’t have any shot-blockers, so we decided to attack the paint.”

Southern Utah: The Thunderbirds were not intimidated. They answered every early Kansas run and led in the final minute of the first half.

Kansas: The Jayhawks are going to want another scorer besides Wilson and Dick. The duo scored 27 of the team’s 41 points in the first half and finished with 51 of the Jayhawks’ 82.

Southern Utah: Heads to the Islands. The Thunderbirds will face Texas State next Friday in the opening round of the North Shore Classic in Laie, Hawaii.

Kansas: Plays North Carolina State Wednesday in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Both teams wore shirts during their pregame warmups that said they "Believe in Ava Jones."&nbsp;

Ava has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Iowa. In July, Ava, her mother and father were critically injured when a drunk driver struck them on a street in Louisville.&nbsp; Ava's father, Trey Jones, died from his injuries.

Both teams shared photos on social media with the special shirts.
