Susana Barron, 61, died August 7, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born March 27, 1962, in Lubbock, TX, to Cresencio Escobedo and Sulema (Leal) Barron.

For over eight years, Susana was an office administrator for Angels Care Home Health. &nbsp;She enjoyed watching True Crime Shows, Lifetime movies, cooking, praying, relaxing and her Dallas Cowboys. &nbsp;Above all, Susana was a devoted family member, always looking forward to spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church. &nbsp;

Susana is survived by: &nbsp;her daughter, Patricia Barron of Hutchinson; siblings, Mike Miranda (Pat) of Lubbock, TX, Abundio “Frank” Barron (Tamara) of Hutchinson, Daniel Vizcaino III of Midland, TX, Diana Olivas (Faby), Maggie Ledesma (Victor), and Debbie Garcia, all of Ulysses; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cresencio and Sulema Barron, and a brother, Cresencio Barron, Jr.

Mary Margaret Werth, 73, died August 3, 2023, at Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Hospital, Bartlesville, OK. She was born September 5, 1949, in Okeene, OK, to Henry and Marie (Kirchner) Huhman.

Mary attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Okeene, OK, and was a 1968 graduate of Okeene High School. She was employed as the Head Cashier at St. Mary’s Hospital, Enid, OK, until 1985. &nbsp;Mary was a bookkeeper and worked for various businesses from 1985 to 2015. &nbsp;She was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, KS.

Mary enjoyed sewing, needle crafting, and making blankets for the church Altar Society. &nbsp;She was known for making the ‘best bierocks in the state of Kansas’. &nbsp;Mary had a love for her pets, but her greatest love and source of joy was her family and friends. &nbsp;She thoroughly loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.

On May 11, 1985, Mary married Ronald Werth, and they moved to Kansas. &nbsp;They shared over 38 years of marriage.

She is survived by: &nbsp;her husband, Ronald Werth of Hutchinson, KS; children, Annie (Brian Orth) Werth of Sedgwick, KS, and Phillip Werth of Hutchinson, KS; grandson, Trexton Murphy; siblings, Rose (Jim) Monahan of Murrysville, PA, and Anthony (Judy) Huhman of Enid, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

 She was predeceased by a son, Michael Fischer.

Mary Michelle “Shellie” McNaul Morgan-Wilson died August 6, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born September 2, 1948, in Hutchinson, the daughter of James and Mary Ann (Revel) McNaul.

She graduated from Trinity High School in Hutchinson in 1966. She got her nursing degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Fort Scott, Kansas. She worked in various hospitals and clinics all over the world and she worked as a case manager later in her career.

On March 29, 1969, she married Leon W. Morgan in Hutchinson. To this union was born her daughter Beth Ann and son Marc Leon. They later divorced. On May 17, 1986, she married Robert V. Wilson in Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1999.

She is survived by her family; daughter Beth (Craig) Wolf, and son Marc (Amy) Morgan, all of Hutchinson; bonus children; Todd (Cindy) Wilson, Tonya Wilson, and Teresa Wilson; grandchildren, MariBeth (Dustin) Jackson, Windom, Olivia Morgan and Trevor Morgan, both of Hutchinson; bonus grandchildren, Jordan Wilson, Katelyn Wilson, and Audrey Wilson; great grandchildren, Maddilynn Wolf, Colton Wolf, and Cayson Jackson; brothers Michael (Tracy) McNaul, Hutchinson and Phillip (Connie) McNaul, Shell Knob, MO; and numerous nieces nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Shellie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert.

Shellie lit up the room and had a knack for making things better. She was our sunshine and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff for their care of her.

Jimmy Dwight Christianson, age 77, passed away on August 3, 2023 at Schowalter Villa. He was born on August 12, 1945 to Glen and Betty Christianson in Hamburg, Iowa. Jim grew up in Shenandoah, Iowa. He worshiped at the First Christian Church and attended Shenandoah schools, Jim worked as a cook in high school.

After high school, Jim worked at a car dealership in Shenandoah. He and his brother, David, moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1967 to work as mechanics for Oser Leasing Company. In 1969, Jim moved to Newton, Kansas to open a new shop for the Company. The shop was located on Old 81 Highway and he worked at that location for 48 years. During that time, the shop changed names several times: Feld, Gelco, Penske and finally J.C. Diesel. Jim was a talented mechanic and was known to fabricate his own parts when needed to repair a semi-truck or car.

In 1963, Jim married Pamela Billingsley. They would have three children and divorce. Jim moved to Hesston, Kansas and in 1977, he married Judy Koontz. They were married until her death in 2000. In 2006, Jim married Pat Goering.

Jim enjoyed watching NASCAR, football and baseball. He attended car racing and drag racing events and spent time working on race cars. Over the years, Jim participated in bowling leagues, built and flew remote control airplanes, and participated in motorcycle poker runs.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Merle Sheridan; his second wife, Judy; and his brother David Christianson.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Tammy (Sean) Nibert of Trenton, Florida; son, Tracy (Debbie) Christianson of Newton; and son, Steve Christianson of Newton; step-son, Toby Koontz of Gillett, Wyoming; step-daughter, Angela Ratzlaff of Great Bend, Kansas; step-daughter, Megan (Kieth) Frymire of Newton; step-daughter, Leslie (Daniel) Knapp of Maize, Kansas; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother Danny (Debbie) Christianson of Shenandoah, Iowa; sister-in-law, Mary Christianson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and other extended family and friends.

Ranea Henderson, 69, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. &nbsp; She was born April 15, 1954 in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Buren and Edith (Davidson) Risley.

Ranea graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1972 and worked Underground Vaults and Storage as an accounts manager for over 20 years.&nbsp; Ranea loved caring for animals. &nbsp;She recently was learning how to knit and crochet from some of her friends. &nbsp;She attended and was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ.

On January 2, 1998, Ranea married Michael Henderson at First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. &nbsp;He passed away on February 13, 2023.

Ranea is survived by her sons, Ryan Corkins of Lawrence, KS, and Brett (Celia) Corkins of Kansas City, MO; granddaughter, Natalia Corkins; brothers, Terry (Sandy) Risley of Viera, FL, and Jeff (Monica) Risley of Springhill, FL; sister, Cheryl (John) Laughary of Wichita, KS; &nbsp;and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael; and a son, Jeremy Bankey.

On September 21, 1965, George was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Daleske in Eldora, IA.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two daughters, Lori and Dyan. George and Ruth shared nearly 58 years of marriage together.&nbsp;

He was employed at Femco Inc. and Kansas Jack in McPherson. He then retired from Future Foam in 2011 after 13 years of admired employment.

George belonged to the First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, camping, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending much valued time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; two daughters, Lori Byington (Richard) of McPherson, KS and Dyan Chapin (Kyle) of Lyons, KS; three grandchildren, Emily Wills (Phillip) of Kansas City, KS, Eli Byington (Nicole) of McPherson, KS, and Tucker Chapin of Lyons, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harry Blosch, and sisters, Nancy Mitchell and Cathy Sease.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Pastor David Kincaid officiating.&nbsp;

Samuel Leighton “Sam” Roots, 49, formerly of Hutchinson, died August 3, 2023, in Grand Junction, CO, with his brother, Matthew, and his best friend, Jules, by his side. He was born November 23, 1973, in Seoul, Korea, and adopted by Roger Leighton and Mary Arnelda (Glass) Roots.

Sam graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1992. &nbsp;He owned and operated several businesses in Denver, CO. &nbsp;Sam’s pride and joy was his daughter, Sterling.&nbsp;

Sam is survived by: &nbsp;his little brother, Matthew Roots (Tricia) and his nephew and niece, Riley and Jayden Roots, all of Inman; little sister, Katie Roots of New York, NY; best friend and co-parent, Jules Pitchford; his beautiful daughter, Sterling, both of Grand Junction, CO; aunt, Patricia Peoples; and numerous cousins. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Kermit Gene Wedel, M.D., a family physician and community leader in Minneapolis, KS., for six decades, died peacefully on July 27, 2023, at the age of 90. He is survived by four children and his wife of 69 years, Kathleen.&nbsp;

Kerm, the son of Arthur A. and Elizabeth K. Wedel, was born at the family farmhouse in McPherson County on July 28, 1932, shortly after his identical twin brother, Ken. He told great stories of his life growing up on the farm. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in McPherson County and Moundridge High School. He then attended Bethel College in North Newton, Kan. On Oct. 16, 1953, he married Kathleen Zerger at Eden Mennonite Church in rural Moundridge. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine where his studies earned him selection into Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society.&nbsp;

Kerm spent an extra year as a surgical resident in Wichita after medical school and then joined Ken in practice in Minneapolis in 1962. Ken and Kerm worked mostly at the Minneapolis Clinic (Wedel, Wedel and Barker), two blocks from Kerm’s home on Fifth Street, where he and Kathleen would raise their growing family. Besides raising their children, the two opened their home to medical school preceptors, foreign exchange students and friends and neighbors for numerous themed events.&nbsp;

In addition to being a skilled physician, Dr. Wedel was a recognized leader in the medical profession. &nbsp;He served his profession in many capacities, including serving as President of the Kansas Medical Society in 1982-83. &nbsp;He also served as KMS’ principal delegate to the American Medical Association for two decades. &nbsp;Dr. Wedel served as an associate professor in family medicine for the University of Kansas School of Medicine. &nbsp;Other roles included Governor’s Commission on Healthcare and the Board of Blue Shield of Kansas. &nbsp;In his 18 years as a board member at the Kansas Health Foundation they approved $336 million in grants improving healthcare and healthcare access.

Jerry Slaughter of the Kansas Medical Society recently wrote: “It’s hard to condense down into one paragraph the contributions he made over many years, but without question, he was one of the most impactful physician leaders we have had. &nbsp;He was generous of his time, humble, pragmatic, cheerful, always positive, and never sought attention or recognition for his efforts on behalf of the profession he so ably represented.”

The same sentiment can be said for his many roles in the local community. &nbsp;He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church and held many leadership positions. &nbsp;He served as member and chair of the USD 239 Board of Education, a founder of the Ottawa County Community Foundation, president of the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce as well as the city council, including as mayor from 2016 to 2021. &nbsp;He was one of four community members to travel to Colorado to secure the purchase of the land that would become Rock City Park.

Most people simply knew him as Kerm or Dr. Kerm – someone who would offer medical advice, a quick hug, or a smile and handshake on the street, or as he was grilling outside the alley entrance of the Blue Moon, the local “speakeasy” restaurant that he and Kathleen opened for Friday night dinners in 1997 and operated for over 20 years.&nbsp;

Upon their retirement in 2005, The Ottawa County Hospital memorialized Kerm and Ken’s service to the community by naming sections of the hospital in their honor.

In his leisure time, Kerm and Kathleen enjoyed watching KU football and basketball games and games in which their grandchildren played. &nbsp; One of his childhood memories was capturing pigeons in the barn of KU basketball player and later Kentucky basketball coach Adolph Rupp near Halstead. He enjoyed all sports and occasionally said that if he hadn’t been a doctor, he might have been a baseball umpire.&nbsp;

He loved spending time at the family’s cabin on Greers Ferry Lake in Arkansas. &nbsp;This provided years of enjoyment for friends and for annual gatherings of all children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that was held each year and included teaching children, grandchildren and children of friends how to ski.

Kerm was preceded in death by his brother Delbert; his twin brother, Ken; and his sister, Leola. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; four children, Alan (Sandy) Wedel of Salina, Russ (Deb) Wedel of Hutchinson, Sonya (Mark) Siebert of Des &nbsp;Moines, IA and Mary (Mike) Mraz of Southold, NY; 11 grandchildren, Rachel (Pete) Stroer, Luke Wedel, Sarah (Derrick) Rowan, Kristin (Brian) McGuirk, Brett (Katrina Horner) Wedel, Emily (Ryker) Williams, Ben (Nina Pressman) Siebert, Matthew Siebert, Simon Mraz, Isaiah Mraz and Naomi Mraz; and six great-grandchildren, Isaac and Ethan Stroer, Elliot Wedel, Rose McGuirk, Jack Rowan and Mara Gene Siebert.&nbsp;

He was surprised and his heart was touched when after his 18 years of service on the board of the Kansas Health Foundation, the foundation presented a check for $25,000 to benefit the Ottawa County Community Foundation in his honor. He asked the contribution be used as seed money for a Public Health Fund.

Delores 'Dee' Jean Betsworth, 84, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023.&nbsp; She was born in Boone, Iowa to Leslie Hans Swanson and Eleanor (Hastead) Swanson.&nbsp;

Dee married the love of her life, Larry L. Betsworth.&nbsp; Enjoying many years of interests with their family, she also was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.&nbsp; She loved gardening and her greatest love was being there for her family enjoying every moment with them.&nbsp;

Dee is survived by her daughter Tresa Betsworth, son Mike Betsworth, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and friends.&nbsp; She was preceded by her husband Larry in June, 2022, her parents Les and Eleanor Swanson.

A private family service was held August 4, 2023 at Kechi Township Cemetery, Wichita.

Delores 'Dee' Jean Betsworth |2023|

Marcelyn Delores Wittorff, 92, passed away on August 2, 2023, at Pleasant Hills in Hutchinson.

She was born to George and Ilene (Burgess) Peterson on November 8, 1930, at the Little River Hospital. The third of six children, she grew up on farms in Rice and McPherson Counties, attending rural one-room schools and graduating from Inman High School in 1948. Following graduation, she worked as a telephone operator and a grocery clerk until her marriage to Arnold Wittorff on September 11, 1949. They shared 62 years of marriage. The couple lived west of Inman where they raised their children, built their farm and bred their well-known registered Polled Hereford cattle herd. They were active in the Kansas Polled Hereford Association, with Arnold serving for many years as the organization’s Secretary/Sales Manager. Marcelyn and their children assisted Arnold in his organization responsibilities. Marcelyn was a member and leader of the Kansas Pollettes, the breed’s women’s organization. She also was involved in the local 4-H clubs, both as a member and a parent leader. Marcelyn later worked in the business office of Conklin Cars in Hutchinson for many years.

She was an active member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Inman, serving in many leadership capacities.

Marcelyn enjoyed entertaining and was known as a great cook. She made many of her own clothes and loved playing cards. Most of the family travels involved going to Polled Hereford related events or visiting the farms of other breeders. In later years, Marcelyn’s favorite travel destination was Branson, MO, sometimes going to three shows a day. In her own life reflections she wrote, “It’s good to get away, but it’s always good to come home.” Marcelyn is now in her eternal home.

Her survivors include her son, Larry (Kathie) Wittorff, Derby, KS; daughter, Carolyn Jackson, Arlington, VA (Washington DC Metro area); grandchildren: Mindy (Travis) Maurath, Topeka, KS; Brett (Ashley) Wittorff, Derby, KS; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Blake Maurath, Topeka, KS; sister, Phyllis Knackstedt, Inman, KS; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, her parents, three brothers: LeRoy, Kenneth and Jim Peterson; her sister and brother-in-law Kathleen (Dale) Zimmerman, her sisters-and brothers-in-law Gene Allen Knackstedt, Audrey Peterson, Elaine Peterson, Louise Janssen, and Erwin and Geneva Wittorff.

Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Tuesday August 8, 2023, at St. Peters United Church of Christ, Inman. Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 9 at North Inman Cemetery and a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s followed by lunch.

The third of six children, she grew up on farms in Rice and McPherson Counties, attending rural one-room schools and graduating from Inman High School in 1948. Following graduation, she worked as a telephone operator and a grocery clerk until her marriage to Arnold Wittorff on September 11, 1949. They shared 62 years of marriage. The couple lived west of Inman where they raised their children, built their farm and bred their well-known registered Polled Hereford cattle herd. They were active in the Kansas Polled Hereford Association, with Arnold serving for many years as the organization’s Secretary/Sales Manager. Marcelyn and their children assisted Arnold in his organization responsibilities. Marcelyn was a member and leader of the Kansas Pollettes, the breed’s women’s organization. She also was involved in the local 4-H clubs, both as a member and a parent leader. Marcelyn later worked in the business office of Conklin Cars in Hutchinson for many years.She was an active member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Inman, serving in many leadership capacities.Marcelyn enjoyed entertaining and was known as a great cook. She made many of her own clothes and loved playing cards. Most of the family travels involved going to Polled Hereford related events or visiting the farms of other breeders. In later years, Marcelyn’s favorite travel destination was Branson, MO, sometimes going to three shows a day. In her own life reflections she wrote, “It’s good to get away, but it’s always good to come home.” Marcelyn is now in her eternal home.Her survivors include her son, Larry (Kathie) Wittorff, Derby, KS; daughter, Carolyn Jackson, Arlington, VA (Washington DC Metro area); grandchildren: Mindy (Travis) Maurath, Topeka, KS; Brett (Ashley) Wittorff, Derby, KS; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Blake Maurath, Topeka, KS; sister, Phyllis Knackstedt, Inman, KS; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, her parents, three brothers: LeRoy, Kenneth and Jim Peterson; her sister and brother-in-law Kathleen (Dale) Zimmerman, her sisters-and brothers-in-law Gene Allen Knackstedt, Audrey Peterson, Elaine Peterson, Louise Janssen, and Erwin and Geneva Wittorff.Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Tuesday August 8, 2023, at St. Peters United Church of Christ, Inman. John Patrick “Pat” Murphy, 75, died August 1, 2023, at his home, freeing his body from the excruciating pain he had endured for 15 years. He was born January 16, 1948, in Norton, to Gerald Earl and Marian E. (Powell) Murphy.&nbsp;

Pat graduated from Scott City High School, and then entered the United States Army. &nbsp;He served in the Army for two years, participating in the 98th Army Band while in Fort Rucker, AL. Pat loved music from the time he was a little boy, growing up on the farm. &nbsp;He played with various groups ranging from the Ted Smith Orchestra Dance Band in Hays to the Colenwald Concert Band and the Covington Community Church Orchestra, both in Georgia. &nbsp;

After Pat was released from the Army, he began employment in Scott City, where he initially owned a business repairing typewriters and adding machines, until the opportunity arose for him to start Scott County trash service. It was during this time that Pat was introduced to computers, and his fascination with them grew. &nbsp;He soon became a certified computer programmer. &nbsp;Pat worked a variety of jobs in the computer industry, from teaching classes at Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School in Goodland to a banking computer programmer in Atlanta, GA. &nbsp;

Following Pat’s stint in the computer industry, his pastor shared a need for volunteers to go to Grenada to help build a house for missionaries on the island of Carriacou. &nbsp;After returning from Grenada, Pat felt the calling to continue being a missionary. &nbsp;He and his wife, Janice, travelled for four years in a motor home raising funds to begin their mission in Carriacou. They then resided in Carriacou as missionaries helping to operate a Christian radio station before returning to the states. &nbsp;When Pat’s health allowed it, he continued to remodel and build homes. &nbsp;Pat’s hobbies also included mechanical and metal work, woodworking, model railroading, and earning his pilot’s license. &nbsp;He was a member of Wheatland Baptist Church, McPherson.&nbsp;

On June 16, 1984, he married Janice Buckman.

Pat is survived by: his wife of 39 years, Janice; children, Kathy Hase, Ken Murphy, and Patricia Murphy (Cassin); bonus children, Kathy Claar (Kris), Nola Shelton (Nathan), and Barb Snell (Jason); 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Mike Murphy; half-brother, Darrell Murphy (Mavis); and his former wife, Dianna Kume.

He was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Wheatland Baptist Church, 1139 McKinley, McPherson, KS, with Pastor Brian Ernsberger officiating. &nbsp;Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Norton City Cemetery, Norton, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. &nbsp;Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Clifford Lee Ediger, 92, of Hutchinson, died August 2, 2023, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was born April 7, 1931, in Inman, to Henry and Minnie (Peters) Ediger.

Cliff graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1949 and attended Hutchinson Community College. He worked as a press operator at the Hutchinson News for 39 years. Cliff also cut firewood all over Reno County with Willie Adkins. He was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ.

On January 14, 1951, Cliff married Carol R. Weaver, in Hutchinson. She died April; 5, 2012.

He is survived by: his children, Dennis Ediger (Rebecca), Laura Ediger (Jack Mullen), David Ediger; brothers, Wes and Gale; son-in-law, Jeff Shelton; grandchildren, Leah Rudolph (John), Zack Tyler, Kelsey Hartman (Frank), Justin Koeppen, Lucas Bishop; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many extended family members.

Cliff was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; daughter, Rose Shelton; and brother, Darrell.

Ruthann Greenfield, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on July 30, 2023 in Broken Arrow, OK. Formerly from Ponca City, OK, she was 82.

Ruthann was born September 18, 1940 to Thomas and Winnie Dobson in Hutchinson, KS. After graduation from Hutchinson High School in 1958, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Billy Greenfield on July 30, 1958 in Newkirk, OK. Together, they would start a lifetime journey that would bring them to Ponca City in 1967 where Ruthann became an amazing life partner, inspiring mother and an incredibly resourceful homemaker.

Bill and Ruthann shared 63 years of marriage before his passing on October 22, 2021. Together, they raised five children, Kym, Kelly, Billy, Kerry, and Kacey. Family was everything to Ruthann and will forever be her crowning achievement. For Bill, she was an incredible partner; strong enough to challenge, an always present supporter and reliable sounding board. To her children, she embodied everything a mother should be; nurturing and kind when you most needed it and patient, but honest when you didn’t want to hear it. She was faithfully committed to raising strong, resilient, independent children even if it would backfire on her. Many times she was known to say, in some form or fashion, “I am your mother and if we’re friends in the end, it’s a blessing I’m not counting on”. For her children and grandchildren, she inspired and cultivated independence, bravery, resilience, and sense of family; a testament to a lifetime of doing the hard work. Ruthann was a talented seamstress, an inspired home remodeler/landscaper, and the occasional artist. Later in life, she became extremely passionate and somewhat competitive about golf and enjoyed many years golfing with family and friends.

Ruthann was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, in-laws Bill and Lucille Greenfield, and brother-in-law Earl Polk. She is survived by her children Kym White (Mike), Kelly Epley, Bill Greenfield (Lori), Kerry Balanza (Chaly), and Kacey DePriest; her sister Phyllis Sharp (Norman), sister-in-law Pamela Polk; nieces Sparkle Faidley (Lucas) and Christina Sullo (John); nephews Tom Sharp (Alida) and Dan Sharp (Renee). Ruthann also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren and their families Laura Mays (Aaron), Leslie Morgan, Kris Upchurch (Jordon), Kyle Upchurch (Emily), Nick White (Erin), Bryan Epley (Marissa), Brad Epley, Ashley Davis, Connor Davis, Cameron Greenfield, Rachel Greenfield, Olivia Greenfield, Kay Wiley (Douglas), Audrey McGuire, Haydn DePriest, and Grace DePriest.

Donna Louise Simpson, 69, passed away July 23, 2023. She was born in Hutchinson, KS, September 19, 1953.

Donna is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Simpson, of 43 years, her daughter, Misty (James) Hernandez, brother, Junior (Janet) Bieghler, sister, Clara Kessler, grandson, Justise Jones, and granddaughters, Hannah and Madalynn Hernandez.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nellie (McRae) Bieghler, and sister, Stella Powers.&nbsp;

Donna was a hardworking and compassionate person. A lifelong resident of Hutchinson, she worked the production line at Tysons and retired after 43 years. She loved spending time with her family, and pursuing her hobbies. Donna was always baking cakes, sewing for fun and patching clothes for friends and family, or reading her favorite Stephen King novels.&nbsp;

A celebration of life will be held at Old Mission Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N Main St, Hutchinson, KS, Friday August 18, from 2:00 to 4:00pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kenneth (Keith) Leroy Carmin was born July 17, 1934 in Russell County, KS.  He died at the age of 89 on July 27th, 2023 in Hutchinson, KS at the Hospice House.  He lived at the Buhler Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community prior to his death.

Keith was a longtime resident of Arvada, CO before retiring to Warr Acres, OK. He then moved to Hutchinson upon becoming ill.

Keith served in the United States Air Force in Westover Air Force Base Massachusetts.  Keith was selected as the outstanding Airman for Headquarters Eighth Air Force in July, 1960.  He was Airman First Class.  After the Air Force  Keith worked for Flat Iron Company in Denver until retirement.

Survivors are sisters Joyce Culver, Hutchinson, KS., Carol Sayre (Bill), Brookfield, MO, and Connie Schrock (Jay), Hutchinson, KS and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ruby &amp; Everett Carmin. Brothers Charles, Everett, Bobby, Gary, Larry, Dean, Jim, and Mark.  Sister Louise Kennedy.

Funeral arrangements are pending.  Cremation has taken place.

Larry Dean Pepperd, 69, died July 31, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS. &nbsp;He was born September 23, 1953, in Pratt, KS, to Dwight and Shirley Maxine (Heape) Pepperd.

Larry was a 1971 graduate of Goddard High School, Goddard, KS. &nbsp;He served in the United States Army from May 1971 to September 1975.&nbsp; Larry was an over-the-road truck driver his entire life.

He was a member of the Guardians of the Children, an advocate group for abused and neglected children.&nbsp; Larry also served as a mentor for children in the Hutchinson school system. &nbsp;He had a servant’s heart, especially for children.

Larry is survived by: &nbsp;his longtime companion, Rose M. McMahon of Hutchinson, KS; stepmother, Ruby Pepperd of Coldwater, KS; brothers, Paul (Karen) Pepperd of Kingman, KS, and A.J. Pepperd of Wichita, KS; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jenny Pepperd.

Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a future date. &nbsp;Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary Cremation has taken place.

 </figure>Larry Dean Pepperd, 69, died July 31, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS. &nbsp;He was born September 23, 1953, in Pratt, KS, to Dwight and Shirley Maxine (Heape) Pepperd.Larry was a 1971 graduate of Goddard High School, Goddard, KS. &nbsp;He served in the United States Army from May 1971 to September 1975.&nbsp; Larry was an over-the-road truck driver his entire life.He was a member of the Guardians of the Children, an advocate group for abused and neglected children.&nbsp; Larry also served as a mentor for children in the Hutchinson school system. &nbsp;He had a servant’s heart, especially for children.Larry is survived by: &nbsp;his longtime companion, Rose M. McMahon of Hutchinson, KS; stepmother, Ruby Pepperd of Coldwater, KS; brothers, Paul (Karen) Pepperd of Kingman, KS, and A.J. Pepperd of Wichita, KS; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jenny Pepperd.Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a future date. &nbsp;Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary Cremation has taken place.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Guardians of the Children or American Heart Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Wilma was preceded in Death by her first husband, Robert D. Stout and their son, Kenneth L. Stout. &nbsp;She also lost her second husband, Leonard L. Siebuhr. As well as, many immediate family members, including her parents Peter and Elma Schroeder, her sisters Fern Nelms and Mary McCreary. Four brothers, Eugene, Jerry, Ellis (Bud) and Myron Schroeder.

Wilma is survived by two more brothers, Everett and Vern Schroeder.

Sunday, August 6, 2023 a public visitation will be held at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel from 1:00pm - 5:00pm.

Monday, August 7, 2023 at 10:00am there will be a gathering and graveside service at the First Mennonite Church of Christian Cemetery in Moundridge, Kansas.

James W Vanatta, 65, died Wednesday, July 26, 2023.  He was born March 5, 1958 in Wichita, Kansas to Bennie and Fern (Shafter) Vanatta. On December 29, 1985 he married Janis (Cable) Vanatta in Wichita, Kansas.

James grew up in Wichita, KS.  He attended Military school in Ponca City, OK and Salina, KS.  He attended Wichita East High School and received his GED in 1975.  

James was very active in the local (Wichita) music scene in the late 70s, 80s &amp; 90s.  He played bass guitar in several area bands.  Jim also enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons and had several motorcycles over the years.  He was a big fan of vintage cars and hot rods.

Jim will be remembered as an idea man.  He always had some idea about a business or invention.  Or a way to remodel a house or paint a car!

He is survived by his wife, Janis Vanatta; children: Michael (Heather) Vanatta, and Katrina Vanatta (Miguel Raymundo), grandchildren Liliana, Thomas, &amp; Emiliano Raymundo.  He also has a daughter Mindy Vanatta of Missouri.

James is preceded in death by his parents and brother Dennis Vanatta. There will be no service at this time.

James “Jim” Samuel Adams, 79, of McPherson, KS, and formerly of Wichita, KS, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, surrounded by family at Salina Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; He was a retired plant manager for Spartech Plastics, previously Plains Plastics.

He was born on November 17, 1943, in Ralston, OK, the son of Oral Henry and Sally Jane (Wheeler) Adams.&nbsp; He graduated from high school in Shidler, OK.&nbsp; On December 17, 2004, Jim was united in marriage to Helen Louise Martin in Wichita. KS.

Jim was a United States &nbsp;Army veteran, serving as a paratrooper in the 101st&nbsp;Airborne Division.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.

In his spare time, Jim loved playing golf and spent countless hours with his dear friends at McPherson Country Club.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include: his loving wife, Helen of the home; a daughter, Rebecca “Becka” Leiblie (Joe) of Udall, KS; a son, Brad Adams (Mary) of Derby, KS; siblings, Lillian Murray of Lamar, AR, Ava Blanchard of Adair, OK, Robert “Bud” Adams (Betty) of Udall, KS, Aubry “Leroy” Adams (Janette) of Udall, KS, Nadene Clayton (David) of Indianapolis, IN, Darlene Sullivan (Mark) of Indianapolis, IN, and Patricia McElhany (John Everhart) of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Mitcheal Adams (Emily), Melayna Adams, Derek Leiblie, and Whitney Leiblie; three great-grandchildren, Mia Adams, Cole Adams, and Cade Adams; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Eileen Hopkins, Iva Sory, and Violet Adams.

A Rosary will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson, with Fr. Benjamin Shockey officiating.&nbsp; The final resting place will be at the Resurrection Cemetery, Wichita, KS, at 2:00 PM.&nbsp; Military Honors provided by Kansas Army National Guard.

Ray Edwin Bontrager, 86, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, in Haven, Kansas. Ray was born October 7, 1936, to Jerry and Edna Bontrager in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Ray attended Haven High School and Hesston Academy graduating in 1954, and then attended Hesston College. He was married to Carol Martin at her home near Wellman, Iowa in 1958. Ray began his married life in I-W Service at Evanston Hospital, Evanston, Illinois. He then began his lifetime career as a farmer in Iowa and in 1967 returned to Yoder, Kansas, to farm his family homestead. He farmed and raised livestock for 38 years. He received numerous farming awards. He owned and operated R &amp; C Feed Service during the 1970’s. He served terms on the Yoder Township Board, Farmer’s State Bank Board and the Equus Beds Aquifer Board. During these years, he was a member of the South Hutchinson Mennonite Church.

In retirement, Ray drove school bus for the Haven School District for ten years so that he could transport his grandchildren to school. His hobbies include collecting antiques, tools and restoring old toys. He could fix anything. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Glen Marlin.
