Barbara Lou Jellison, 88, died July 7, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis, Wichita. &nbsp;She was born August 6, 1934, near Lone Elm, KS, to Harold and Esther (Thompson) Nichols. &nbsp;

Barbara graduated from Welda High School in 1951. &nbsp;She married Robert “Bob” Jellison March 30, 1950, at her parents’ home in Welda. &nbsp;

Barbara retired from the Lyons Medical Center in 1995. &nbsp; She was a member of First Christian Church, Lyons, where she served as a deacon, elder, and sang in the church choir. In addition, Barbara was a 22-year charter member of Sweet Adelines, Coronado Country Chapter of Lyons.

Barbara is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of over 73 years, Bob; daughter, Phyllis Webb of Dothan, AL; sons, Donald Jellison (fiancée, Nelda Slider) of Skiatook, OK and Dale Jellison (Tomi) of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Frank Mersmann of Osage City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Margie Mersmann.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2023, at Welda Cemetery, Welda, KS. &nbsp;Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In loving memory of Reba F. Lentz. Reba passed peacefully in her home on July 5, 2023 in Aurora, Missouri. She was born to Tom E. and Dollie Ball on January 23, 1935 in Mapleton, Ks. In her mid 20's she met Raymond Lentz while working in Wichita, Ks. They soon married and started a family and serving the Lord together.

They moved to Newton, Ks in the early 70's. Reba opened an in home daycare which she did for over 30 years. When she and her husband retired they moved to Aurora, Mo. She accepted the Lord as her Savior in her early 20's. Her desire was to have her family and all those around her to know the Lord.

Reba was preceded in death by her three sisters and two brothers. Along with her husband and son, Teddy Dean.

Survived by her children, Tom Lentz, Trinidad Lentz, Gail &amp; Dennis McDowell, Tim Lentz, Terry &amp; Nancy Lentz, Tony Lentz and Amor Nicilla.

Along with 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 more on the way.

She is known for her love of family and love &amp; faith in God.

There will be a memorial service held at her church, Aurora Baptist Temple in Aurora, Mo. on July 15, 2023 at 11:00am

We will have a visitation Friday, July 21, 2023 from 4pm-9pm. Then a funeral service on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:00am. Both at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton, Ks. With a graveside service following at Resthaven Garden of Memory in Wichita, Ks.

Reba F. Lentz |1935-2023|

Barbara E. Wallace, 80, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, at her vacation home in Dubois, WY.&nbsp;

Barbara was born on February 14, 1943, at the Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of James and Ruth (Gordon) Benson.&nbsp; She spent her earlier years in Russellville, MO, attending school and enjoying summers with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles.&nbsp; She either attended the &nbsp;Church of Christ there in Russellville or in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp; Following graduation from Wyandotte High School (Kansas City, KS) in 1961, she began working as a secretary for a local business.

On July 26, 1968, Barbara married Larry Roland Wallace in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; Larry had a daughter, Kimberly, and Barbara welcomed her with open arms.&nbsp; At this time, Larry was the general manager for Gene Cable Chevrolet.&nbsp; On March 3, 1974, Larry and Barbara were blessed with the birth of their son, Chris.&nbsp; The family lived in the Kansas City area until April 1978, when they moved to McPherson, KS and purchased Turner Chevrolet, which would later become Wallace Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Inc.&nbsp;

Larry and Barbara enjoyed traveling together.&nbsp; They visited many places in the United States including Alaska and Hawaii.&nbsp; They also traveled to Canada, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.&nbsp; They also made many trips to Kansas City, Nevada, Missouri, and Colorado Springs to visit family.&nbsp;

Barbara enjoyed fishing with Larry, working puzzles, and bird watching, having marked many pages in her bird book.&nbsp; Barbara and Larry purchased their vacation home in Dubois, WY, and soon, the mountains became her favorite place to be.&nbsp; She had numerous hummingbird feeders out and enjoyed watching deer in their yard.

Her pride and joy were her six grandchildren, Megan, Eric, Tiffany, Trisha, Alayna, and Hayden.&nbsp; She loved spending time with them and attending their many activities.&nbsp; She even had a separate grandchildren calendar just to record all their activities, never wanting to miss an event.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing games with them. Some of the favorite games were Pitch, Stinko, and Solitaire.&nbsp; As the grandchildren got older, she would wait by the phone for their calls.

Barbara especially enjoyed Christmas eve, breaking out the Christmas carol books and singing with the family.&nbsp; Watching the grandchildren perform and open presents was a special highlight of hers.&nbsp; Her family would insist on Thanksgiving and Christmas be at her house every year as she was known for her “silver trays” full of various sides to go with the turkey and ham.

Attending her P.E.O. Chapter HI meetings, swimming with the neighbors, attending McPherson Opera House shows, and getting her hair done were some of her other favorites.&nbsp; A memorable evening at the McPherson Opera House was meeting and visiting with Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers.&nbsp; She even had her picture taken with them.

Barbara loved God and was a member of McPherson Church of Christ.&nbsp;

Survivors include: children, Kimberly (Evan) McHugh of Knoxville, TN and Chris (Catrina) Wallace of Moundridge, KS; and six grandchildren, Megan McHugh of the Netherlands, Eric McHugh of Knoxville, TN, Tiffany McChesney of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Trisha McHugh of Indianapolis, IN, Alayna Wallace of Kansas City, MO, and Hayden Wallace of Moundridge, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Linda Maurer and Gordon Benson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A private graveside service will be held at McPherson Cemetery.

Ann Laverne Farrier, 97, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Lawrence, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, surrounded by family at McPherson Hospital

Laverne was born on August 15, 1925, in Shidler, OK, the daughter of Frank and Mary Lee (Kingsolver) Phillips.&nbsp; She graduated high school in Neosho, MO.&nbsp; On January 12, 1946, Laverne was united in marriage to Fred Farrier in Baxter Springs, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Peggy, Kathleen, and Daniel. Laverne and Fred were married for 67 years before his passing on August 29, 2013.

Laverne was a homemaker, worked for Hallmark Cards, and was an operator for Bell Telephone.&nbsp;

She was a member of McPherson church of Christ and former member of the Southside church of Christ in Lawrence, KS.&nbsp; She belonged to the Hallmark Club.&nbsp;

Survivors include: three children, Peggy Lynn (Michael) Bassham of Sulfur Springs, TX, Kathleen (Dr. Gregory) Thomas of McPherson, KS, and Daniel (Marsha) Farrier of Georgetown, TX; eight grandchildren, Ann Kathleen (Jeff) Demuth, Stephanie (Richard) George, Susan (Brian) Heflin, Megan (Stephen) Eck, Dr. Reid (Kem) Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Shelley (Todd) Tindel, and Emily (Roy) McGhee; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five siblings.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 14, 2023, at McPherson church of Christ.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM, on Saturday, July 15, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, KS.&nbsp;

Roger Paul Hodgson, 80, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023 at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson, KS.  He was born April 7, 1943, Lyons, KS to Paul C. and Bernice E. (Wolfe) Hodgson.

Roger attended Sterling High School and graduated in 1961.  On January 13, 1970, he married Charlotte Kay “Katie” McAnally and she passed away in 2015.  In 1964, Roger enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1968.  He worked for Dillon’s Warehouse in maintenance and retired after 32 years.  

Roger is also preceded by his parents, Paul and Bernice Hodgson; step-mother, Ruby Mellies Hodgson; stepdaughter, Michelle Dick; stepson, Michael Cox; sisters, Sharon Hildreth, Jan McMurphy, and Marilyn “Corky” Gooch; stepbrother, Craig Mellies and stepsister, Gloria Dill.

He is survived by his daughter, Hope (Troy) Selby; stepsister, Sylvia (Craig) Wagerle; grandchildren, Jacob Dick, Natalie Dick and Matt Selby; great granddaughter, Islani Villa; stepbrother-in-law, Robert Dill, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 10:00 A.M. on July 15, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th St., Hutchinson, KS 67502. Roger Paul Hodgson |1943-2023|

Lonnie Beryl Pruitt, 81, of Hutchinson, was carried from this life into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, July 7, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family and friends that cared for and loved him dearly. He will be truly missed.&nbsp;

Lonnie’s favorite verse was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” and his favorite song was, “I’m a Child of the King.”

Lonnie was born October 20, 1941, in Bartley, WV, to Fred and Ruby (Riffe) Pruett. He lived a full and happy life of almost 82 years.

Lonnie married the love of his life, Easter Lowery, on September 11, 1963, in Grundy, VA.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 33 years. Lonnie retired in Colorado Springs, CO, where he worked as Director of Food Services at the U.S. Olympic Training Center for 25 years, until he could no longer work due to health.

Lonnie was first and foremost, a Christian. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. Lonnie loved to laugh, loved to tell jokes, and any practical jokes to be played on someone - he was in on it. Lonnie loved his family, to hike and play ball, and to serve others. If there was a need he could meet, you could count on him doing it. Lonnie loved to go to church. He was the most consistent, even-tempered man you could ever meet. Lonnie never had anything negative to say and always saw the good in people. To sum it all up, he was the best husband, daddy, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend a person could have.

Lonnie was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Ray and Eldon; and son, Scott.

He will be truly missed.&nbsp;Lonnie’s favorite verse was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” and his favorite song was, “I’m a Child of the King.”Lonnie was born October 20, 1941, in Bartley, WV, to Fred and Ruby (Riffe) Pruett. He lived a full and happy life of almost 82 years.Lonnie married the love of his life, Easter Lowery, on September 11, 1963, in Grundy, VA.He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 33 years. Lonnie retired in Colorado Springs, CO, where he worked as Director of Food Services at the U.S. Olympic Training Center for 25 years, until he could no longer work due to health.Lonnie was first and foremost, a Christian. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. Lonnie loved to laugh, loved to tell jokes, and any practical jokes to be played on someone - he was in on it. Lonnie loved his family, to hike and play ball, and to serve others. If there was a need he could meet, you could count on him doing it. Lonnie loved to go to church. He was the most consistent, even-tempered man you could ever meet. Lonnie never had anything negative to say and always saw the good in people. Lonnie Beryl Pruitt |1941-2023|

Doris (Diane) Cruit, 78, a retired speech language pathologist, passed away on July 11 at Newton Presbyterian Manor. Diane was born on November 2, 1944 in Dallas, Texas and was the oldest child of Harold and Dorothy (Colley) Roach.

Diane graduated from East High in Wichita, KS in 1963. After high school Diane went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Logopedics from Wichita State University and a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Diane was a devoted speech language pathologist for 30 years and worked for Butler County Special Education Cooperative, McPherson County Special Education Cooperative, the North Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative, the Cowley County Special Service Cooperative, and a few others. Diane loved her job and helping students accomplish their goals. She retired in 2006. 

On March 10, 1974, she married Mehl Cruit in Wichita, KS. Mehl and Diane shared almost 36 years together before his death in February of 2011. To this union were born daughters, Megan Elizabeth and Emily Denise. They loved being together, traveling, and spending time with their daughters and grandchildren.

Diane is survived by daughters Megan Zapata (Joaquin), Emily Dalke (Dustin); four grandchildren, Bryant Alan Dalke, Owen Daniel Dalke, Isabel Doratea Zapata, and Luca Melano Zapata; brother Michael Roach and sister Cathy Roach. She was preceded in death by her husband Mehl, her parents Harold and Dorothy Roach. 

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton Kansas on Thursday, July 13th. A graveside committal service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Wichita, KS on Friday, July 14th at 11:00 a.m.

Carolyn Jean Johnson went to be with the Lord on 7/1/2023, in O’Fallon, MO, at the age of 84. She was born on December 11, 1938, in McPherson, KS to William and Mabel Brauer. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Inman High school in 1957. She married Evan Johnson on July 20, 1957, in McPherson, KS, celebrating 65 years of marriage. They had three children, Merlyn (Debby) of Walton, Gregory (Penney) of Walton, and LuAnn (Kip Connor) of St. Charles, MO. 9 grandchildren; Steven (Courtney), David, Miranda (David), Whitney, Tisha, Taylor (Addison), Kalin (Kylie), Sydney, and Hannah (Tommy). 12 great-grandchildren; Sierra, Rylie, Connor, Evan, Ethan, Willie, Eve, Eli, Vivien, Adalynn, Martin, Levi, Annie, and Lucy. 2 great, great grandchildren, Caroline and Wesley.

Carolyn was loved and cherished by her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was loved for her kind and welcoming nature, always ensuring that she had a sweet treat to offer you during your visit. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved spending time with her doing puzzles, playing games and baking. They knew and felt how much she loved them. Her cinnamon roll recipe is cherished by many. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and was very proud of their accomplishments. She ensured she never missed watching her beloved KC Chiefs.

She started her cooking career in 1970 at USD 373 Walton Grade School, as a school cook, transitioning to the USD 373 Food Service Director in 1982, retiring in 1999. She was loved at Walton and known for being the best cook ever by the kids and teachers! This meant she saw Evan and her children while at work, as Evan was the Walton Elementary School Principal. She made many friends during her time as Food Service Director, who have remained lifelong friends and all say she was the best boss!

She spent one summer running the Walton Whistlestop Restaurant, with a friend, and was known for her exceptional comfort food and pies. She also held the title of the “First Lady of Walton” during Evan’s tenure as Walton Mayor.

After retirement, she loved antiquing with Evan. Her collections included depression glass that she eventually shared with her granddaughters. She and Evan traveled with friends to many places, with Alaska and Lake Tahoe being their favorite trips.

She volunteered her entire life in many ways with her congregation at Newton Church of the Brethren, the Newton homeless shelter, Walton Community in multiple ways, Senior Service leader of Walton and in 4-H when her children were young.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Evan, daughter-in-law Debby Johnson, brother Richard Brauer, sister Nadine Willems, brothers-in-law Dennis Fry, Donald Johnson, and LaVerne Willems.

The celebration of life services will be held at Petersen’s Funeral Home on October 14th&nbsp;10 am with burial at Walton Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will be on October 13th, 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

Randy Gale Dacus, 66, of Canton, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023 at his residence. Randy was born in Farmington, New Mexico on April 11, 1957, a son of Lanny Gale and Merlene Almeda (Whitener) Dacus. Randy attended and graduated from Leon-Bluestem High School, Leon, Kansas. Randy took great pride in being a hard worker. He spent the majority of his working career at CHS Refinery, working first as a pipefitter rigger, and later was promoted to maintenance supervisor. Randy never knew a stranger. He would greet you with a unique one-liner and after a short conversation, he would give you a special “Randy nickname.” Randy loved rock crawling the Colorado mountains in his Toyota Landcruiser. He &nbsp;loved working on cars and teaching his children and grandchildren to drive and life hacks in general…probably at a far too young age. Ironically, he loved to go on elk hunting trips, but it was probably more to be with friends. Randy’s love for his animals, children, friends and family were what he lived for and will be remembered for most. Randy was united in marriage to Joni Seglem on July 25, 1983 in El Dorado, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in El Dorado and through their journey together, they raised four children, Brandi, Melissa, Kati, and Chris. Kelly Joe Minerd, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 1, 2023. He was born in Ransom, Kansas on January 20, 1956 to Don E. and Margaret (Jarrell) Minerd. The family lived in Ness City, Kansas until he was 7, then moved to Wichita in 1963.&nbsp; He attended Valley Center schools, graduating in 1974. While in High School he was an outstanding basketball player and held the high scoring record for 30 years.

He worked for the Wichita Public School District 259 for 31 years before retiring. He was the Building Maintenance Supervisor at East High School.&nbsp; He was an animal lover, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His greatest love was his family and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Margaret, his brothers Michael Minerd and Kevin Minerd.

Kelly is survived by his son Cole, daughter Lindsey, sister Kathy Mertins, brother Patrick, 9 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Kelly Joe Minerd |1956-2023|

Carl C. Stelter, 95, of Haven, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Legends of Hutchinson. He was born November 15, 1927 in Haven, the son of Carl W. and Pauline (Dierks) Stelter.

Carl graduated from Haven High School with the class of 1946 and was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1946-1948. He later served from 1950-1953, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Carl served during WWII and the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to Lila Jean Dickerson on January 1, 1952 in Huntsville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2021.

Carl owned and operated Stelter Standard Service and later worked for the Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co.

He was a member of the Haven United Methodist Church. Carl was also a member of the Haven American Legion Post, and was very active at the Haven Golf Course, often found planting trees and mowing.

Carl is survived by his daughters, Carla (Monte) Long of South Hutchinson, Debra (David) Craighead of Fulton, Missouri, and Kathie Hathaway of Ottawa; son, Kurt (Dana) Stelter of Wichita; five grandchildren, Brooke Kirmer of Wichita, Chad (Libby) Long of Maize, Adam Hathaway of Lawrence, Andrea (Tyler) Fredricks of Ottawa, and Garrett Stelter of Wichita; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Sherri Kirmer Stringer; and 12 siblings.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Laurel Cemetery, Haven, Kansas with military honors. He was born November 15, 1927 in Haven, the son of Carl W. and Pauline (Dierks) Stelter.Carl graduated from Haven High School with the class of 1946 and was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1946-1948. He later served from 1950-1953, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Carl served during WWII and the Korean War.He was united in marriage to Lila Jean Dickerson on January 1, 1952 in Huntsville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2021.Carl owned and operated Stelter Standard Service and later worked for the Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co.He was a member of the Haven United Methodist Church. Jeanette (Jen) Nixon&nbsp;, 68 of Newton, Kansas passed away Sunday, July 2 at Newton Medical Center. &nbsp;She was born July 16,1954 in Wolf Point, Montana, the daughter of CL and Lydia (Pankratz) Derksen. &nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jen was a knitter, gardener and &nbsp;K-State Football fan. &nbsp;She enjoyed cross stitching, cooking, collecting antiques, artfully arranging things and living life. &nbsp;She always had a dog, most recently Fred, a basset hound.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jen graduated from Hesston College (74) and Tabor (76) with a Bachelors in Social Work. &nbsp;She then went to California for a few years, then worked in La Junta, Colorado &nbsp;at the VA. &nbsp;It was here she met and married Nick Nixon&nbsp;(Oct 21, 1978) . Then she moved to Grand Junction, Colorado working at the VA and later the Regional Center where she eventually became the head QA of Social work. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 2008 she retired and moved to Kansas to be closer to extended family. &nbsp;She is survived by her son Brian (Michelle) Nixon.&nbsp;

Robert E. Smalley 96, died July 10, 2023 at his Newton residence. He was born July 27, 1926 in Newton, Kansas to Eugene O and Abbie (Powell) Smalley. He married Carroll Royston at First United Methodist Church in Newton and she preceded him in death on December 1, 2018.

Robert was a long time active member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He owned and operated Smalley's T.V. and Maritime repair as well as selling real estate through Smalley Realty. &nbsp;He served his country in WWII in the Merchant Marines.

He is survived by his daughter Susan (Leon) Scott; sons mike (Kendra) Smalley and David (Barbara) Smalley; one brother Norman (Barbara) Smalley. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Jeff Smalley and one brother Jack Smalley

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Newton with The Reverend Kim Andrews officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday July 16, 2023 at Petersen Funeral Home. &nbsp;Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton.

Patricia Ellen Hornbeck, 69, died July 7, 2023, at her home in Nickerson. She was born June 14, 1954, in Hutchinson, to Oscar and Colleen (Cavanaugh) Hornbeck.

Patty graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1972. She worked for many years as a banker at Central Bank and Trust and at retirement she was working for Jackson Meats, in Hutchinson. Patty enjoyed spending time outside, especially taking care of and perfecting her yard. She loved to spend time with her family.

Patty is survived by: husband, Rick Schuller, Nickerson; brothers, Dan Hornbeck (Pam), Hutchinson, Mike Hornbeck (Dana), Owasso, Oklahoma, Joe Hornbeck, Wichita; sister, Kathy Turner (Alan), Hutchinson; daughters, Lori Kaufman (Brandon), Amarillo, Texas, Jessica Pyles (Willie), Hutchinson; sons. John James Nisly (JJ), age 65, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023 after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Hutchinson, KS on September 30, 1957, to John and Sylvia Nisly. &nbsp;He decided that Kansas was the place to live and at 20 years old, he went to Indiana to convince Hilda ‘Joy’ Miller of that as well. &nbsp;They were married in 1978, and eight years later they were proud parents to two girls, Lolita Miller (Joe), Roxie Heatwole (Dave), and two boys, Matt Nisly (Jackie), and Dale Nisly (Tash).

He was a very educated man, but wasn’t much for school. &nbsp;As a child, he learned most of his skills from his father as well as figuring them out himself. He was well known for his ability to repair Massey Ferguson combines, lawn mowers, and many brands of tractors. &nbsp;For 20 years, he owned Double J’s Agri-Service, and eventually transitioned to driving a semi-truck for ProVia Logistics.

In his early years he enjoyed playing softball and guitar. &nbsp;Later on, his hobbies included golf, woodworking and turning out pieces of art on his wood lathe.

He had a strong passion for teaching kids at the JAM (Jesus And Me) ministry, driving the JAM bus, serving and mentoring others, listening to worship music, and playing with his grandkids. &nbsp;His number one desire in life was to follow Jesus. &nbsp;His retirement goals of helping and serving others were cut short by his cancer illness. Despite spending many days going to doctor appointments and being required to rest, he rarely complained and made a conscious decision to “choose joy” no matter what the circumstance.

JJ is survived by: &nbsp;his wife, Joy; children, Lolita (Joe), Roxie (Dave), Matt (Jackie), Dale (Tash); siblings, Joye Miller (Ellis), Janie Ediger (Randy), Joan Yoder (Hank), Jeannie Miller (Tim), Dave Nisly (Pam); grandkids, Tasha and Jevon Miller, Asia, Lincoln and Kannon Heatwole, Alexa, Jovie, Easton and Callaway Nisly, and Jayda, Shay, and Chance Nisly. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rita Yvonne Hamby Orndoff, 66, passed away on July 7th, 2023 at Azria Woodhaven in Great Bend, KS. Born in Springfield, MO on April 21, 1957 to parents Ellis E. Hamby &amp; June Stephens Hickel. Rita was saved and joined the Baptist Church young. She was a lifetime resident of Ellinwood coming to town at age four. Rita graduated from Ellinwood High in 1975. She worked at Glassco manufacturing and later Woodhaven in Ellinwood. She was very talented at arts and crafts and enjoyed fixing things for others. Rita loved blessing her friends and family with handmade gifts. &nbsp;

Survivors include children, Daniel (Sierrah) Orndoff and Megan Orndoff; mother, June Stephens Hickel (Ron); sister, Sheila (Jim) Hacker; daughter-in-law, Christie Hamby; and grandchildren, Dalton and Davin Hamby.

Rita was preceded in death by her father Ellis Hamby and son, Brett Hamby.

Anna Marie Barker, 96, joined her husband, children, many relatives, and friends on July 5, 2023, in the big beautiful Heaven that we all seek after life on earth.

Anna was born on September 15, 1926, in Malony, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Opal (Ash) Poore.

On February 14, 1945, Anna was united in marriage to Pearl Edmund Barker. The couple was married for 46 years when he preceded her in death on February 3, 1991.

For many years Anna worked as a certified nursing assistant, a job that she both enjoyed and was good at.

Anna loved crocheting blankets, collecting owls, and butterflies of all kinds.

Anna is survived by her children, Herman Barker, Kenneth (Rebecca) Barker, Larry Barker, Sharon Barker, and Sandra (Harry) Arnold; sister, Mary Howell; twelve grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl Barker; father, Guy Poore and mother, Opal (Ash) Poore; step-mother, Ninca Poore; brothers, Earnest Poore and Richard Poore; sisters, Neva James and Katherine Layne; daughters, Linda Barker and Anna Mae Barker; son, Raymond Barker; daughter-in-law, Joletta Barker; daughter, Virginia Durrant; and son, Steven Barker.

Naomi B. Schuchman, 91, died July 6, 2023 at the Prairie Sunset Home.

She was born June 2, 1932, at Kingman the daughter of Clarence and Mildred McClure Belcher.  A longtime resident of the Kingman community, she was a professional business woman.

Naomi was a member of the Kingman Christian Church; the BPA, the Galaxy Credit Women’s Club, a former leader of the Hawk 4-H, and the Red Hats.

She was married Bob Schuchman; he precedes her in death.  Survivors include two sons, Mike and Don; daughter Deb Graber-Gonzalez; bonus children Cindy (Mark) Todd, Betty Ann (Watie) McGlothin and Janet Schuchman; brother Roland Belcher; sister-in-law Marilyn Belcher; grandchildren Aaron (Lisa) Byers, Jennifer (Chad) Shultz, Kirsta (Jim) Byers, and Clint (Erin) Graber; great-grandchildren Maliek Miller, Blake Shultz, Cara Shultz, Mason Graber, Olivia Graber, Kassandra McCluskie Lorielle McCluskie.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother Larry Belcher; step-son Jerry Schuchman; son-in-law Joe Henry Gonzalez; and daughter-n-law Deb Byers.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

A longtime resident of the Kingman community, she was a professional business woman.Naomi was a member of the Kingman Christian Church; the BPA, the Galaxy Credit Women’s Club, a former leader of the Hawk 4-H, and the Red Hats.She was married Bob Schuchman; he precedes her in death. Survivors include two sons, Mike and Don; daughter Deb Graber-Gonzalez; bonus children Cindy (Mark) Todd, Betty Ann (Watie) McGlothin and Janet Schuchman; brother Roland Belcher; sister-in-law Marilyn Belcher; grandchildren Aaron (Lisa) Byers, Jennifer (Chad) Shultz, Kirsta (Jim) Byers, and Clint (Erin) Graber; great-grandchildren Maliek Miller, Blake Shultz, Cara Shultz, Mason Graber, Olivia Graber, Kassandra McCluskie Lorielle McCluskie. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother Larry Belcher; step-son Jerry Schuchman; son-in-law Joe Henry Gonzalez; and daughter-n-law Deb Byers.Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Eugenia Marlene Richardson, 88, passed from this earth on June 30, 2023. She was born April 3,1935, in Altamont, KS, to Hugh and Elaine Armstrong.

Marlene married Donald Richardson on December 25, 1953, in Burlington, KS. She was a homemaker and devoted to her church and family.

Marlene is survived by: children- Keith Richardson of Hutchinson; Beth (Mike) Reamer of Wichita; Ruth (Dick) Vogt of Council Bluffs, IA; Jeff (Vicky) Richardson of Hutchinson; Kevin (Karla) Richardson of Liberty, MO; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister HuAnn Braden of Topeka; sister-in-law Claudia Armstrong of Salina; and brother-in-law Richard Pieschl of Minneapolis, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; brother Brian and sister Nancy Pieschl.

There will be a private family graveside service at Peace Creek Cemetery.

Patricia A. Johnson, 84, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, surrounded by family at the McPherson Hospital.&nbsp; Patty was born on November 28, 1938, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Elmer C.L. and Elizabeth Fern Martinson.

She graduated from McPherson High School in 1956 and Brown Mackie Business College in Salina, KS.&nbsp; On December 15, 1957, Patty was united in marriage to John LeRay Johnson at the New Gottland Lutheran Church.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Jeff, Jackie, and Jerri.

Patty worked at Farmers Alliance, the McPherson County Appraiser’s Office, McPherson County Abstract, and was the office manager for the family business, Johnson Electric.

She was a member of New Gottland Covenant Church where she was a former church organist, a Sunday School teacher, &nbsp;and Vacation Bible School volunteer.&nbsp; She belonged to Covenant Women’s Group and was a longstanding member for almost 60 years in Happy Homemakers FCE.&nbsp; She was a leader in the Empire 4-H Club and active member of a local Multiple Sclerosis support group.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 65 years, John LeRay Johnson; three children, Jeff (Karolyn) Johnson of McPherson, KS, Jackie (Charlie) Phillips of Enterprise, KS, and Jerri (Brian) Mackey of Bel Aire, KS; eight grandchildren, Nick (Liz) Johnson, Rebekah (Ransom) Hawthorne, Sarah (Tim) Willis, Cassie (Trevor) Kolinski, Callie (T.J.) Bell, Carlie (Adam) Huser, Allison (Dillon) Flood, and Austin (Maggie) Mackey; 11 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer &amp; Fern Martinson, and two brothers, Donald Eugene Martinson and Bill “Meatball” D. Martinson.

Judy Janell Hayes, 73, passed away on July 5th, 2023 at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born in Larned, KS on August 12, 1949 she was the daughter of Howard &amp; Leona Keeler. Judy was a lifetime Ellinwood resident where she worked as a caregiver and owned Raymond Farm Supply. She was active in the community donating her time to Meals on Wheels and the Heritage Club and was a member of the Garden Club in Ellinwood.

Survivors include sons, John Henry (Jacalyn) Hayes, and Jimmy Joe (Genia) Hayes; grandchildren, Zaid (Stepheni) Hayes, Ethan (Kennedy Harrington) Hayes, Jacob Hayes, Adam Hayes, Garrett (Cori) Hayes, Sophia (Patrick) Ringering, Madelyn (Kaleb) Schartz, Nicole (Adam) McKie, and Audrey (Austin Benavides) Likes; and 8 beloved great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ned Keeler.

Judy Janell Hayes |1949-2023|

Erma Louise (Hackerott) Westfall, age 90, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on June 30, 2023. She was born on January 14, 1933, in Alton, Kansas, to the late Everest and Gladys (Gregory) Hackerott.

Erma had a full life. She married her high school sweetheart, Ron Westfall, on September 25, 1951, and together they raised their five children in Greensburg, Kansas. In 2007 they relocated to Hutchinson after the devastating F5 tornado in Greensburg.

Known for her culinary skills, Erma was a wonderful cook and baker. She passed down her passion for cooking to her children, who will continue her legacy in the kitchen. Erma was also talented at quilting, sewing, and crocheting, creating beautiful keepsakes for her family, especially her grandchildren.

Erma and Ron were actively involved in their home church, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. They generously provided soup and cookies for numerous church suppers and dedicated their time to volunteering at community outreach kitchens. Erma also found joy in helping others through the Good Samaritan Volunteer Program in Hutchinson.

Erma will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Ron Westfall and their children: Roger Westfall and wife Patricia, Ann Veenstra and husband Dan, Randy Westfall and wife Joyclyn, Rhonda Steele and husband Jim, and Robin West-Conard and husband Steve. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Danette (Veenstra) Peralta, Denise (Veenstra) Case, Mary (Westfall) Tanner, Katelyn (Westfall) Marlow, Paul Westfall, Morgan Steele, Cooper Steele, Michelle (West) Schultz, Jenny (West) Frazier, and Logan West, along with her 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Erma is survived by her sisters, Thelma Anderson and Doris Lewis, and preceded in death by her siblings: Gilbert Hackerott, Betty Howell, Arlene Bloomer, and Lezetta Hlad.

The family is thankful for the compassionate care and comfort provided by Erma’s hospice caregivers, Mandy Galvin and Jody Abel, RN.

A memorial service to celebrate Erma’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 15, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Erma Louise (Hackerott) Westfall |1933-2023|

Trey Nicholas Allen, 45, died all too soon on July 4, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born October 22, 1977, in Liberal, to Larry and Karen (Timmons) Allen.

Trey graduated from Hugoton High School in 1996, Hutchinson Community College, and earned his bachelor’s degree in political science in 2005 from Kansas State University.  For over 15 years, he was a claims specialist for the Social Security Administration. Trey grew up in Hugoton, and continued to maintain close contact with his Hugoton High Class of 1996. He enjoyed anything outdoors, from fishing and camping to golfing and gardening.  Trey also played baseball.  When he was 12, his team won the Little League World Series, where Trey was the pitcher.   When his three sons were old enough to participate in sports, Trey volunteered to help coach their teams. He was the glue that kept the family close together with cookouts and holidays.  Trey also served as the family peacemaker.  Family came first for Trey, but a very close second was his beloved K-State Wildcats.  He enjoyed attending their football and basketball games, traveling as far as NYC to watch the Wildcats play in the Elite 8!  Trey proudly bled purple.  

On September 5, 1998, he married Shawna Buhrmann.  Even though they were no longer married, they raised 3 amazing sons together and remained friends.  

Trey is survived by:  his parents, Larry and Karen Allen of Emporia; his three sons, Braxton, Jaxon (Katie), and Trevon; four-month old granddaughter, Elaine Allen, all of Hutchinson; brother, Ty Allen (Ashley Knier); nephews, Dax, Tripp, and Grayson Allen, all of Hugoton; aunts, Joyce Hammons and Shelley AbouNabhan (Michael); uncle, Paul Timmons; mother to Braxton, Jaxon, and Trevon, Shawna Allen; former in-laws, Larry and Beulah Buhrmann; beloved Siamese cat, Yogi; numerous cousins; and a host of friends. 

He was preceded in death by:  his grandparents, Mary and George Allen and Doris and Paul Timmons; and uncles, Don Allen (Vicky) and Steve Hammons.

Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2023, at First Christian Church, 600 S. Van Buren, Hugoton, with Pastors Heath Kelley and Kevin Giguere officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hugoton Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
