Dorothy H. Nelson, 74, of McPherson, KS, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 at McPherson Hospital. Dorothy was born January 15, 1949 in New York, the daughter of the Frank Hammel. Through the years Dorothy owned and operated Nelson's Pet Store and Scope Maintenance. She also worked for Koch Industries, Copeland Supply and and retired &nbsp;from Central Plastics in 2014. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, shopping, playing slot machines at casino's and spending time with her friends and family. Dorothy H. Hammel was united in marriage to Robert Lee Nelson on February 13, 1965 in California. The young couple established their first home together in Glendale County, California. This union was blessed with the birth of 2 children, Frank and Tammy. She is survived by her children, Frank Nelson of Canton, Kansas and Tammy Shadday of McPherson, Kansas, her 6 grandchildren, Ashley (Aron), Justine, Jessica (Jordan), Bree, Robert and Frank Jr. and 4 great grandchildren, Aiden, Malia, Kinsey and Harlow. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her son, Steven and her granddaughter Reba. Service will be at a later date. Phyllis J. Schweizer, 89, died June 4, 2023, surrounded by her children at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. She was born January 19, 1934, in Berne, IN, to Eli and Lorena (Habegger) Lehman.&nbsp;

Phyllis was a 1952 graduate of Berne French High School. She went to Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1959. &nbsp;After graduation, Phyllis was recruited to teach school in Wichita, KS. &nbsp;She taught there until the end of the 1962-1963 school year. &nbsp;Phyllis met her future husband, John ‘J.D.’ Schweizer at that time. They were married October 5, 1963, in Berne, IN. They lived on a farm southwest of Sterling, KS.

She was an active member of Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, Sterling, KS, where she taught Sunday school and served in AWANA among many other capacities.

Phyllis is survived by: &nbsp;four sons, Steve (Jean) Schweizer of Plevna, KS, Tim (Brenda) Schweizer of Sterling, KS, Tom (Christy) Schweizer of Sterling, KS, and Mark Schweizer of Denver, CO; daughter, Carol (Ben) Lotter of Mayville, MI; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Luther (Linda) Lehman and Charlie (Louise) Lehman, both of Berne, IN; sister-in-law, Lyn Lehman of Jackson, MI; and brother-in-law, Paul (Barbara) Schweizer of Sterling, KS.

She was preceded in death by: her husband; parents; brother, Willard Lehman; and great-grandson, Amos Schweizer.

Steven ‘Steve’ Wesley Cardwell Sr., 72, died June 4, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born September 21, 1950, in Hutchinson, to Raymond Rex and Jacqueline Jane (Hines) Cardwell.

A Hutchinson High School graduate of 1968, Steven joined the United States Navy right after high school. After honorable discharge from service, he earned his master electrician license through his job at Adm Collingwood Grain in Hutchinson where he worked at as a Master Electrician.

Steve enjoyed fishing and camping, but his life mostly revolved around dogs. He was an active Board Member of the Hutchinson Kennel Club. In addition, Steven was a dog trainer, training dogs in obedience and agility. He also worked with therapy dogs and enjoyed taking them to hospitals and clinics as emotional support to patients.

On April 27, 1975 he married Paula ‘Susie’ Sue Fischer in Hutchinson. They shared 48 years of marriage.

Steven is survived by: his wife, Paula ‘Susie’ Cardwell of Hutchinson; son, Steven Cardwell Jr. of Hutchinson; siblings, Sue (John) Miller of Hutchinson and Rexann (Mike) Smith of Inman; granddaughter, Alison Cardwell of Leavenworth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the Hutchinson Kennel Club, 131 S. Washington St. South Hutchinson, KS 67505.

Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy.

Leonardo “Leo” P. Mendoza, 79, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023.&nbsp; He was born on August 30, 1943, in&nbsp; Corona, CA, the son of Ramon and Rosario (Puga) Mendoza.&nbsp; Leo graduated from high school in Lake Elsinore, CA in 1961.

On October 14, 1967, Leo was united in marriage to Karen Ann Walline in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Kina, Nikki, and Richard.

Leo served in the United States Air Force.&nbsp; For 50 years, he worked for McPherson Concrete Products, retiring as a foreman.

He was a longtime member of Countryside Covenant Church.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 55 years, Karen; three children, Kina Mendoza of Wichita, KS, Nikki Pendlay&nbsp; of Carrollton, TX, and Richard Mendoza (Amanda) of Emporia, KS; four grandchildren, William Pendlay, Alexandria Pendlay, Emma Mendoza, and Daniel Mendoza; a sister, Mary Martinez of Hesperia, CA; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Lupe Romero, Nicholas Mendoza, Bobby Mendoza, Richard Mendoza, Raymond Mendoza, and Alice Salgado.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 12, 2023, at Countryside Covenant Church with Rev. Jeremy Bower officiating.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 12, at Empire Cemetery, Galva.

Beulah Diane (Bootie) Carey passed away June 5, 2023, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp; She was born June 10, 1947, the daughter of Freda (Decker) and Arthur W. Reichert in McPherson, KS.&nbsp;

Growing up on the family farm southeast of McPherson, she attended Elyria Grade School and McPherson High School, graduating in 1965.&nbsp; She spent her youth helping on the family farm, developing a love of all animals, but horses and dogs especially.&nbsp; Her childhood years were spent in 4-H and playing girls’ sports.&nbsp; She learned at an early age, the 4-H motto, “To make the best, better,” and never forgot it.&nbsp; She was always striving to leave something better than she found it.&nbsp; Many happy years were spent helping area youth in McPherson County 4-H programs including several years as Community Leader for the Livewires 4-H Club.&nbsp; Countless days were spent at the county and state fair readying livestock and other projects for judging.&nbsp;

Marrying in 1967, she became the mother to her only son, Ryon.&nbsp; Her adult years were spent homemaking, working hard on the family farm, volunteering in 4-H and working as a nurses’ aide first at Shiloh Manor in Canton, then Bethesda Home in Goessel, and the final chapter was &nbsp;20 years spent working at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.&nbsp; A Lindsborg resident since 2005, she enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow employees at Bethany Home, and she adored her time spent as the bath aide on the Elin and P.V. at Bethany Home.&nbsp; She loved her patients like family and made sure none of them, regardless of their circumstances, went without anything that might make them more comfortable.

She continued working at Bethany Home until the COVID-19 pandemic struck, reluctantly retiring in the fall of 2020. Time and the decades of back-breaking work took their toll on her body, and in her later years, she battled heart and kidney disease, which ultimately claimed her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dennis.&nbsp;

Left to mourn her passing are her only son Ryon Carey (James Baker) of&nbsp; Lindsborg, KS, her beloved sister Agnes Reichert of McPherson, KS, her sister-in-law Linda Meier (Lloyd) of Marion, KS, her grandchildren Tristyn Swanson (Joshua) and their son Bodhi of Lindsborg, KS and Ian Baker of Lawrence, KS, her nephew Justin Reichert (Nicole Grady) of McPherson, KS, her great-nephew Thorin Reichert (Andrea) and their son Waylon of McPherson, KS, and a host of loving cousins and friends.

A visitation/viewing will be held from 12:00 PM &nbsp;until 3:00 PM, Thursday, June 8, 2023, with the family present from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 9, at the McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 10, at Bethany Home Chapel, Lindsborg, with Rev. Willie Deel was born to Nancy &amp; Jerry Deel October 19, 1990.

Willie was taken from this world May 29, 2023 at the age of 32.

Willie served in the US Marine Corps for 6 years as a scout sniper and discharged in 2015.

He was the Vice President of Odin’s Ghosts Motorcycle Club.

Willie is proceeded in death by his father Jerry Deel, his twin sister Autumn Breeze Deel, a sister Tammy Ann Chandler, an Aunt Anita Thill, and his maternal grandfather Gene Buchanan.

He was engaged to marry Jamie Arell. She also passed on May 29, 2023.

Willie is survived by his mother Nancy Deel, his grandmother Della Buchanan and a son Declan Deel, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters and brothers, as well as all his biker brothers, sisters and family.

Willie and Jamie will be missed terribly.

A celebration of life will be held on June 9, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. at Odin’s Ghosts Clubhouse at 516 South Main in Hutchinson.

Donald Dwayne Young, 63, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away April 23, 2023, at his home. Don was born May 9, 1959, to Virgil and Joan (Castleberry) Young in Pratt, Kansas.

After moving to various cities, his family settled in St. John, Kansas, where he graduated from St. John High School in 1978. Don attended Kansas State University. He went on to complete Fire Service Training from the University of Kansas in 1984. Don moved to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1984 and began working as a Reno County Fireman. Don returned to St. John for a brief period to work at English Oil Company. Don would eventually become a salesperson for Business Systems Inc, where he worked for 21 years. After his time at BSI, Don worked at B &amp; K Medical and most recently for Siemens Gamesa, all in Hutchinson, Kansas. It was in Hutchinson where Don met and then married Jan (Whetzel) Young on June 27, 1987. Together they raised two sons, Daryn and Dylan Young. Don’s number one goal was then to be an involved and loving father. He cherished time with his sons, coaching youth sports teams, providing amenities on school playgrounds, in general, fully participating and supporting any and all endeavors.

Don is survived by his mother, Joan (Castleberry) Young, St. John his sons Daryn Young (Dana Stumpff), Overland Park and Dylan Young, Overland Park his sisters, Stephanie (Ronald) Ahrens, Ellinwood and Debbie Levingston, Great Bend his brother, Steve (Velda) Young, St. John and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He is preceded in death by his father, Virgil Young and Brother-In-Law Joe Levingston.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday June 10, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory with inurnment to follow at 2 p.m. in Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John, Kansas. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with family present at Elliott Mortuary. Don attended Kansas State University. He went on to complete Fire Service Training from the University of Kansas in 1984. Don moved to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1984 and began working as a Reno County Fireman. Don returned to St. John for a brief period to work at English Oil Company. Don would eventually become a salesperson for Business Systems Inc, where he worked for 21 years. After his time at BSI, Don worked at B &amp; K Medical and most recently for Siemens Gamesa, all in Hutchinson, Kansas. Randy L. Buggeln, 65, McPherson, died May 27, 2023, at his home. He was born January 5, 1958, in Hutchinson, to Kenneth “Breezy” and Nancy (Jennings) Buggeln.

Randy was a Buhler High School graduate in 1976. He was a rural water operator for Rice County Water District 1. Randy participated in Pheasants Forever, Little River Chamber of Commerce, and Little River Fall Fest. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and carpentry. Randy’s passions could be summed up as “family, friends, and firearms”.

Susan Kay Snyder, 76, of Lehigh, Kansas, passed away at 9:40 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro, Kansas. Sue was born in Muscatine, Iowa on February 28, 1947, a daughter of Jacob Henry and Ruby Helena (Knipfer) Brei. Sue attended rural country schools, Pine Bluff and Iowa Patterson grade school, New Era, Iowa, West Junior High School and graduated from Muscatine High School, Muscatine, Iowa. She then attended Lutheran Hospital School For Nurses where she graduated with her nursing degree. Susan Kay Brei was united in marriage to James Snyder on May 25, 1968 in New Era, Iowa. The young couple established their First home in Colona, Illinois. This union was blessed with the birth of 5 children, Trella, Katherine, Clinton, Joanna and David. Through the years, Sue worked as a nurse for Illini Hospital, Silvis, Illinois, Dickinson County Hospital, Iron Mountain, Michigan and Hutchinson Regional Hospital for 24 years until she retired. Susan then worked in pediatric home care for 12 years. Sue enjoyed playing the piano and organ, Singing, sewing, crocheting, loved nature, painting, wood carving and spending time with her family and friends. Mervin Randall “Merv” Hathaway, 92, formerly of Hudson, died May 25, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society-Hutchinson Village. &nbsp;He was born September 29, 1930, in Stafford, to Elmer William and Dora Louise (Hart) Hathaway.

Merv attended school in Stafford and St. John. &nbsp;He served in the United States Army from 1948-1949, in the Army Reserve from 1949-1953, and in the United States Air Force from 1953-1961. &nbsp;Merv owned and operated a service station in Haysville and Hudson, but found his true passion as a drug and alcohol counselor for the Larned State Hospital. He attended Trinity Community Church, Hudson, and First Congregational Church, Hutchinson.

On May 13, 1956, he married Vertabell May Ukens, in Hudson, at Trinity United Church of Christ. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Merv is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of 67 years, Vertabell of Hutchinson; daughters, Shari Koptik (George) of Great Bend, Sandy Benoit (Don) of Damar, KS, and Stacy Gasper (Tyler) of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Connie Hathaway of Hudson; grandchildren, Peggi Axelson (Mark), &nbsp;of Plainville, Kyle Benoit (Justine) of Damar, &nbsp;Elizabeth Phillips (Ryan) of Platte City, MO, Jaci Wise (Colton) of Plainville, Randall Polifka of Hutchinson, Chase Polifka (Carissa) of Hays and Michelle Gasper of Hutchinson; and six great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; brothers, Omar “Dean” Hathaway (Clara) and Daryl Hathaway; and two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Kendra Gasper.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at First Congregational Church, 3410 N. Gary Lynn Rhodes passed away at Schowalter Villa Health Care on Saturday, June 3, 2023. 

He was born April 24, 1945, to Esther Lucille (Dunkin) and Arthur Leroy Rhodes in Great Bend, Kansas. During his early years the family also lived in Garnett, Kansas as well as Tulsa, Oklahoma and Belle Plaine, Kansas. They moved to Sterling, Kansas when Gary entered high school where he was a high jumper and basketball player and graduated in the spring of 1963. He then attended Sterling College for a year before joining the United States Air Force. He trained in Texas and was stationed at Holloman AFB in New Mexico. At Holloman, he was on the All-Air Force traveling basketball team. During his stint with the USAF, he became reacquainted with former Sterling High School classmate, Janice Schechter, and they were married in December 1968 just prior to his going to Viet Nam where he was a member of the Delta Dragons Special Ops Unit. After his honorable discharge from the USAF in February 1970, Gary attended Southwestern College in Winfield and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Elementary Education. The couple then moved to Shawnee Mission to teach for one year and returned to Winfield in 1973 where Gary began teaching sixth grade at Whittier School. Children, Holly and Ty, were born in those early years in Winfield. Gary attended night classes at WSU to earn a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and continued to earn more than 60 hours beyond that degree. He taught at Whittier Elementary School for 18 Years and then served as administrator there for 10 years. For 15 of those years, he also served as Director of Adult Education in Northern Cowley County for Cowley College. After his retirement from the Winfield Public Schools in 2000, he taught 7 th and 8 th Grade Language Arts, PE and Current Events and coached boys’ basketball in the Oxford Schools for seven years. In 2009, Gary was honored with induction into Southwestern College Educators Hall of Fame. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winfield and had attended Hesston Mennonite Brethren Church since moving to Hesston. After 46 years in Winfield, Gary and Janice moved to Hesston on November 8, 2017, to live in Independent Living at Schowalter Villa. Gary continued to enjoy his favorite life-long hobby, fishing, and also spent many hours riding and tinkering with his recumbent bikes. Gary is survived by wife, Janice of 54 years; daughter, Holly and husband, Greg McCracken of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Ty and wife, Brittni of Hesston, Kansas; grandchildren, Quinn, Ryli, Maci, and Whit; niece, Andi and nephews, Jesse and Curtis. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Connie, and brother, Terry. Michael Keffeler, 72, passed away May 26, 2023, at Hospice House. 

He was born December 25, 1950, in Sundance, Wyoming. Through Michael’s participation with the Oxford House organization, he had a positive influence and touched many lives .

Michael is survived by his adopted family, Butch and Verna Neel; special friend, Ilene Hougham, and many other friends.

Phyllis Jean Richardson, 91, passed away May 19, 2023, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler, KS. &nbsp;She was born March 22, 1932, in McPherson, KS, to Paul W. Emmitt and Edna (Sidwell) Emmitt.

Phyllis was a graduate of Nickerson High School, Nickerson, KS, and Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;She was employed by Dillon Stores Inc. and then went to work at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, formerly Kansas State Industrial Reformatory, as a secretary in the Education Department. &nbsp;Phyllis was a member of the Cameo Club, and an active member of the Nickerson United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s organization of the church.

She was a member of the Senior Citizens Group in Nickerson, KS, and was instrumental in keeping the group going. &nbsp;Phyllis was involved in the decorating of the town for the various seasons and holidays. She was the caretaker for the flowers that were planted along Main Street. &nbsp;Phyllis would pull a little red wagon filled with jugs of water down the street to water the flowers. &nbsp;She was at her best when it came to organizing funeral dinners. &nbsp;Every detail, even down to lace tablecloths, had to be perfect. &nbsp;Phyllis enjoyed attending Hutchinson Community College ballgames and volleyball games in Omaha, NE.

Phyllis loved her children and grandchildren. &nbsp;She enjoyed following all their sports, school programs, and family events. &nbsp;Phyllis and David had no problem taking trips out-of-town, and at times, out-of-state for ballgames. &nbsp;Her grandchildren were all very special to her and they all have stories to tell.

&nbsp;On December 21, 1952, Phyllis married David Mark Richardson, in Nickerson, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 63 years of marriage, prior to his death on June 17, 2016.

Phyllis is survived by: &nbsp;her children, Les (Joni) Richardson of Hutchinson, KS, Barb Nichols of Lousiville, KY, and Robert Richardson of Goodland, KS; grandchildren, Landis (Ana) Richardson, Tyson (Andrea) Richardson, Micah VanNover, Meaghan (Blake) Briscoe, Lynsey (Kevin) Reynolds, Reid (Amber) Nichols, and Collin Nichols; and great-grandchildren, Quinn Richardson, Connor Richardson, Lyra Arriga, Austin Arriga, David Richardson, Elsie VanNover, Eldon VanNover, Esmay VanNover, Graham Briscoe, Olivia Briscoe, Benjamin Briscoe, Clara Reynolds, Cace Reynolds, Carson Reynolds, Cora Reynolds, and Colton Turney.

William ‘Bill’ Allen Garber, 88, died June 1, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born May 4, 1935, in Hutchinson, to Leo and Ellen Matilda (Gillock) Garber.

Bill graduated from Buhler High School in 1953. He worked for various companies, such as, Morton Salt and Stroberg Equipment Company. In addition, he was a Captain at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, owned and operated Bob Inn Tavern in Nickerson.

Bill enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, playing dominoes, pool and snooker. He was part of Romeo Riders Motorcycle Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out) and he and his friends rode their motorcycles to small towns to eat and drink coffee at various restaurants, Spangles being one of them.

On October 1955, he married Nina Rose Stoughton, in Buhler. They shared almost 68 years of marriage.

William is survived by: his wife, Nina Garber of Hutchinson; children, Nina Jarmer of Hutchinson and William ‘Bill’ (Kelly) Garber of Manhattan; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; his parents; brother, Dale Garber; and infant sister, Oma Jean Garber.

Bill was a simple man and per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Russell G. Johnston, 70, of Hutchinson, died May 29, 2023 at Via Christi Village Ridge, Wichita, KS. He was born July 8, 1952 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Hutchinson, KS to Alva LeRoy Johnston and Christina Dora (Wakefield) Johnston.

Russell graduated from Haven High in 1970. He earned his Master Electrical License. He founded Applied Computer Services, Inc. in 1983 and continued managing the business up until shortly before his death. He was a member of St. Teresea Catholic Church, the Reno County Polio Support Group, and Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce. He mentored various groups and individuals.

Russell is survived by his sister Mary (Terry) McCoy of Hutchinson; nieces, Julie Kitston, Susan (Mark) Mattison, both of Hutchinson; and nephews, Brian (Teresa) Rife of Sterling, Christopher (Kara) Hartle and Scott McCoy, both of Hutchinson, Bryon McCoy of Wichita, Ross (Becca) McCoy of Wethersfield, CT. Russell was so proud and grateful for his ‘work’ family, Kevin Stevens, Loren Johnson, Debie Cape, Jeff Smith, and Tammy Harmony.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Alice Jeanette (Johnston) Hartle and Virgina Lee (Johnston) Rife.

Hazel Edith Brawner, 85, passed away on May 31, 2023 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. She was born December 23, 1937 in Oregon County, MO, the daughter of Henry J. A. and Lois I. (Mobley) Smith.

Hazel married Delmar Brawner on June 15, 1955 in Newkirk, OK. They were married 57 years before he passed away in 2012. Hazel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending her free time crocheting. Hazel was a member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church, Hutchinson.

Survivors include her three children, Ricky Brawner, Tammy (John) Gilley, and Norma Brawner; seven grandchildren, Joy Karns, Jennifer Huskey, Angela Ord, Serena Smith, Regina Vanagas, Anthony Brawner, and Denice Gilliland; one sister, Ruth Holloway; two brothers, Jim Smith, and Loyd Smith; 21 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delmar; and a sister, Nancy Olson.

Marvetta Church, 72, of Newton, Kansas, died on May 23, 2023.

She was born on June 21, 1950, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Marvin and Ruby (Scheffler) Church.

Marvetta enjoyed crafting and keeping up with her sisters.

Marvetta is survived by her sisters, Dianne Hopkins and Sherry Church; and numerous other family and friends.

Jacqueline E. “Jackie” Goldstein, 75, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at her home in McPherson.&nbsp; Formerly of Dunedin, FL, Jackie has lived in McPherson from 1965 to 1987 and from 2014 to present.&nbsp; Jackie worked at Farmer’s Alliance as a computer operator.

Jackie was born February 22, 1948, in Paterson, New Jersey, the daughter of Edward W. and Grace R. (Holmes) Goldstein.&nbsp; She graduated from Eastside High School in Paterson, and in 1965, came to McPherson, KS to attend McPherson College.&nbsp; In 1987, she returned to Florida to care for her mother for 17 years.&nbsp; Having so many Kansas friends brought her back to McPherson in 2014.

Jackie always looked forward to her summers in Maine, boating, fishing, and spending time with friends.&nbsp; She was a member of the Weary Club in Norway, Maine.&nbsp;

She is survived by a niece, Jennifer Goldstein Frank of Centennial, CO ; a great-niece, Eva Lynn Frank of Centennial, CO, a sister-in-law, Marjorie Goldstein of Centennial, CO, and numerous friends, who Jackie considered to be her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Seth Goldstein.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 8, at the American Legion Post #24 in McPherson.

Ann Hays, 100, of Hutchinson, died May 29, 2023, two days shy of her 101st birthday, at Legends of Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born Esther Ann Smith in Spearman, TX, on May 31, 1922, to Miles M. and Esther M. (Sargent) Smith.&nbsp;

Ann graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1938 and soon after graduated from Adela Hale Business College. &nbsp;After graduation she worked at F.E. Perry Lumber Company before beginning her career with Dillon &amp; Sons, she soon became the Personal Secretary to Paul Dillon retiring after 39 years. &nbsp;

Ann was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Ann enjoyed needlepoint, embroidering, cooking and baking but had a very special talent and unique love for chip carving on wood.

On June 5, 1940, she married Edward D. Hays, in Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 67 years of marriage before his passing on December 19, 2007.

Ann is survived by: daughter, Sherry Barnhart; son, Steve (Robbie) Hays; grandchildren, Rhonda (Gary) Kretzer; Scott (Shari) Barnhart; Travis Hays; Katie (Luke) Bryan; and eight great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Ann is preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; husband, Edward D. Hays; son-in-law, Ron Barnhart; and sisters, Etha McCaskey and Fern Fredrick.&nbsp;

 </figure>Ann Hays, 100, of Hutchinson, died May 29, 2023, two days shy of her 101st birthday, at Legends of Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born Esther Ann Smith in Spearman, TX, on May 31, 1922, to Miles M. and Esther M. (Sargent) Smith.&nbsp;Ann graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1938 and soon after graduated from Adela Hale Business College. &nbsp;After graduation she worked at F.E. Perry Lumber Company before beginning her career with Dillon &amp; Sons, she soon became the Personal Secretary to Paul Dillon retiring after 39 years. &nbsp;Ann was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Ann enjoyed needlepoint, embroidering, cooking and baking but had a very special talent and unique love for chip carving on wood.On June 5, 1940, she married Edward D. Hays, in Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 67 years of marriage before his passing on December 19, 2007.Ann is survived by: daughter, Sherry Barnhart; son, Steve (Robbie) Hays; grandchildren, Rhonda (Gary) Kretzer; Scott (Shari) Barnhart; Travis Hays; Katie (Luke) Bryan; and eight great-grandchildren.&nbsp;Ann is preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; husband, Edward D. Hazel Edith Brawner, 85, passed away on May 31, 2023 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. She was born December 23, 1937 in Oregon County, MO, the daughter of Henry J. A. and Lois I. (Mobley) Smith. She married Delmar Brawner on June 15, 1955 in Newkirk, OK. They were married 57 years before he passed away in 2012. &nbsp;Hazel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. &nbsp;She enjoyed spending her free time crocheting. &nbsp;Hazel was a member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church, Hutchinson.

Sally Ann Foster, 89, died May 30, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born January 19, 1934, in Hutchinson, to Goldwin and Cloma (Dixon) Smith.

Sally graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952 and attended Hutchinson Community College. She was a homemaker and also worked for four years at Gunn Music Company. Sally was a member of Crossroads Christian Church in Hutchinson. She enjoyed reading, music, and watching Hallmark movies, especially the Christmas ones.

On July 25, 1954, Sally married George A. Foster, in Hutchinson. They shared 57 years of marriage before his passing on December 3, 2011.

She is survived by: sons, Frank Foster (Lorna), Hutchinson, Dan Foster (Penny), Hamilton, Texas, Steve Foster (Helen), Haven; daughter, Kathy Allen (Mike), Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral service will be 10 am Monday, June 5, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Mike L. Unruh, 52, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born September 20, 1970 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Robert Lee and Violet Ruth (Schmidt) Unruh.

Mike was united in marriage to Sheryl L. Wenger on June 3, 1990 at rural, Halstead. She survives of the home.

He was a member of Garden View Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Halstead.

Mike was the owner and operator of Unruh Excavating, LLC in Moundridge, Kansas and was currently the chairman of the Board of Directors for Mercy Hospital.

Other survivors include his three daughters, Alexcia (Micah) Unruh of Galva, Brooke (Ricki) Penner of Bredenbury, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Chelsea Unruh of Moundridge; granddaughter, Isabelle Unruh; his mother, Violet Unruh of Murray, Kentucky; brother, Phil (Katrina) Unruh, Murray, KY; sisters, Cindy (Kendall) Koehn, Murray, KY, and Trish (Abe) Leonard, Sequim, Washington; father and mother-in-law, Dale and Luerla Wenger, Burrton, KS.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Robert.
