Karen Sue Stickley, 88, left this earth November 3, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Hutchinson, KS. Born on August 7, 1935, in Pratt, KS she was the 2nd of 5 children born to Brewster and Mildred (Shepard) Dodson.

On January 3, 1954, she married Marvin L. Chronister in Pratt, KS. Born to this union were Ron, Doug, Lisa, and Eric Chronister. On September 4, 1964, she married Carl S. Stickley in Pratt, KS. This marriage added two step-children, M. Wade Gillen, and Carla Morris. Karen and Carl shared 58 years of marriage before Carl’s passing in December 13, 2022.

Karen was passionate about her home and family and her love of music included hymns, choirs, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s sounds along with Drum Corps which engaged her love of travel. She continued to volunteer as a “Corps Mom” for the Sky Ryders Drum & Bugle Corps even after her children had aged out. In later years she volunteered at The Fox Theatre and Strataca: KS Underground Salt Museum and enjoyed being a part of The Red Hat Society. She was a member of Countryside Baptist Church.

Karen is survived by: son, Ron (Bonnie), Halstead; KS; daughter-in-law Glenda, Little Rock, AR; daughter Lisa (Randy), Hutchinson, KS; son, Eric (Geralyn), South Hutchinson KS; step-daughter, Carla, Great Bend, KS; brother, Bob Dodson, CA; sister, Jan Hertl, WY; sister, Gayle Johnston, MT; sister-in-law, Sharon Dodson, Ellis, KS; sister-in-law, Jane Goodwin, Canada; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Carl; son, Doug; step-son, Wade and spouse Marty; sister and brother-in-law Dona and Jack Eastes; and great-granddaughter, Kennadie Gorrell.

Friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Life at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary. The family will be available for visitation one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be scheduled for a later date. Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
