Terry Gale Wray, age 67, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023.&nbsp;

He was born on October 10, 1956 in Hutchinson, KS, the son of the late Gerald and Bessie Wray. He married Sheryl Wray (Dahlke) on August 7, 1982. Terry was a 1974 graduate of Hutchinson Sr. High School and served 4 years in the U.S. Navy including time on the U.S.S. Forrestal. After his time in the Navy, he spent his career in the printing industry, retiring from Custom Printing.&nbsp;

Terry was an active member of Trinity Lutheran in Menasha and was involved in their choir, dinner theatre, helped with their sound systems, and served on many committees. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a leader for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years. Terry was also a coach for his son’s baseball teams, participated in Sing Out Reno County &amp; People International Incorporated.&nbsp;

Terry enjoyed World of Outlaws Sprint Car racing, puzzles, and bringing joy to children as one of Santa’s many helpers.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl and three sons, Tim (Teresa) Wray of South Bend, IN, Chris (Jenn) Wray of Sheboygan, and Joe (Chelsea) Wray of Burkburnett, TX; six grandchildren – Skyler Knisely, Tegan Wray, Parker Wray, Allison Wray, Madelyn Wray &amp; Mackenzie Bolado.&nbsp;

He is further survived by many brother &amp; sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his immediate family of his parents, Gerald &amp; Bessie Wray, step-father Johnny Friesen, half-sister Betty Killian, and half-brother Larry Conley.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church (300 Broad St) Menasha. Friends and family may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 am to 11 am. Burial will be at the Rosendale Cemetery.&nbsp;

James “Jim” R. Fendt, 82, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at his home in McPherson.&nbsp; He was a retired United States Postal Carrier and had served in the United States Air Force.

Jim was born on November 19, 1940, in Watertown, WI, the son of Raymond and Loretta Fendt.&nbsp; He graduated from Watertown High School.&nbsp; On February 23, 1963, Jim was united in marriage to Karen Sue Wells at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Rhonda, Paula, and Phil.&nbsp; Jim and Karen were married for 42 years prior to Karen’s passing on November 26, 2005.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC).

Survivors include: his three children, Rhonda (Scott) Wedel of Gardner, KS, Paula (Scott) Davis of McPherson, KS, and Phil Fendt of Aurora, NE; grandchildren, Matthew (Crystal) Wedel, Justin (Dani) Wedel, Tyler (Taylor) Davis, Tyson Davis, Emily (Cody) Delk, and Nolan Fendt; great-grandchildren, Ben, Harrison, Ewan, Hugh, Leah, Josie, Bowen, Waylon, and one on the way; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Shirley Lauderback, Katherine Schlender and an infant brother.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, October 23, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rosary following at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Benjamin Shockey officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp; Attendees are welcome to wear clothing that Jim would appreciate, such as Green Bay Packers attire.

Darlene M. Ediger, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Paramount Community Living and Rehab in Newton, just three days following her 71st birthday. She was born October 14, 1952 in Hillsboro, Kansas, the daughter of Earl and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Bartel.

Darlene graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1970. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Art’s degree from Tabor College.

Darlene attended Grace Community Church in Newton. She was a committed follower of Jesus Christ, and shared her love of Christ with everyone in her life. She loved gardening, cooking Wednesday night meals for her family, sewing, birdwatching, and feeding the hummingbirds, and solving sudoku puzzles.

She was a devoted homemaker. Darlene worked at the Hesston Child Care Center for ten years and was involved in their afterschool program.

Darlene was united in marriage to Paul Ediger on October 4, 1975 in Hillsboro. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include her four children, David Ediger of Hesston, Michelle (Brandon) Dick and their children, Lydia and Ezra, of Hesston, Jared (CJ) Ediger of Wichita, and Matthew (Rachel) Ediger of Newton; sister, Sharon Tomlinson of Wichita; and brothers, Glenn (LaVonne) Bartel of Wichita, and Scott (Brenda) Bartel of Hillsboro.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Don Bartel; and infant sister, Elaine Bartel.

Arthur Mythias House, 21, of Janesville, WI, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Navy Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA.&nbsp; He was an active duty Pharmacy Technician in the United States Navy.

Arthur was born on February 3, 2002.&nbsp; He graduated from J.A. Craig High School in Janesville, WI and the Medical Education &amp; Training Campus at Fort Sam Houston, TX.&nbsp;

On October 11, 2022, Arthur was united in marriage to Haley Lychelle Schafer.&nbsp;

Wauneta M. Darnell, 100, died October 18, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born January 20, 1923, in Falls City, Nebraska, to Frank and Ethel (Cook) Peck Sr.

Wauneta graduated from Falls City High School in 1941. On August 6, 1941, she married Al Darnell in Falls City. They shared 66 years of marriage until his passing on October 16, 2007. The couple moved from Nebraska to Sterling, Kansas in October 1956, then to Wickenburg, Arizona in 1973, and finally to Hutchinson in 1985.

Wauneta was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church, in Hutchinson, and she was a Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Member.

She is survived by: daughter, Barb Brothers (Jon), Hutchinson; grandchildren, Steve Brothers (Sabina), Eagle Point, Oregon, Marcie Webb (Scott), Yukon, Oklahoma, Debbie Baird (Tracy), Bixby, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Braydon Webb, Hannah Webb, Zachary Baird, and Hallie Baird.

Wauneta was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Don Darnell; and brothers, Harold, Loran, Don, and Frank Jr. Peck.

Danny O’Dell, 76, a lifetime McPherson, KS resident, peacefully entered into his heavenly home in the early morning hours on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at McPherson Hospital.&nbsp;

Robert Danny O’Dell was born on August 3, 1947, in McPherson, KS, the son of Ivan Luther and Grace Bertagene “Jean” (Rife) O’Dell.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1965.&nbsp; Danny attended Central College from 1965 to 1968 and McPherson College from 1968 to 1973, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree.&nbsp; On June 4, 1972, Danny was united in marriage to Janet S. “Jan” Rolander in McPherson.&nbsp; They were married over 41 years prior to Jan’s passing on November 22, 2014.

Danny owned and operated O’Dell’s Laundry.&nbsp; He started working there as a teenager, riding in and driving a truck. He sold O’Dell’s Laundry on June 30, 2013.

Danny was very active in the Scouting program.&nbsp; He joined Cub Scouts in September of 1955.&nbsp; He went through the ranks from Cubbing to the Arrow of Light rank, the highest achievement of Cub Scouting, and joined Troop 117 as a Boy Scout in the fall of 1958.&nbsp; He went through the required Boy Scout ranks to Eagle Scout, which is the highest achievement attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America. He completed the Eagle Scout Service project in July of 1965.&nbsp; He also earned an additional award above the Eagle rank, the Bronze Palm.&nbsp; He was also selected to be a member of Order of the Arrow, and within this organization, he was nominated and elected for the Vigil Honor.&nbsp; In adulthood, he continued to be active by being a Lifesaving Merit Badge counselor and assistant Scout leader for Webelos.

On July 10, 2008, Danny was involved in a car wreck, losing mobility.&nbsp; Over the years, he has overcome many obstacles due to the wreck.&nbsp; In that same year, he lost his right eye due to cancer.

Danny was a former member of McPherson Free Methodist Church and current member of First United Methodist Church. &nbsp;Since 2015, he has volunteered at First United Methodist Church, making sure the building’s needs were met.&nbsp; For example, he would make sure the doors were locked.&nbsp; Since June 1, 2018, he was put in charge of all the building operations, becoming the Facilities Administrator.

Danny is survived by his brother, David (Evy) O’Dell of McPherson, KS; children, Timothy (Heather) O’Dell of Minneapolis, MN, Will O’Dell of Topeka, KS, and Sheila O’Dell of Kansas City, KS; two nieces, Crystal Clobes and children, Acacia and Adie, and Rozalynn (Ken) Frey and children, Lilly, Cooper, Carter, and Caris; special friends, Gene &amp; Sheryl Railsback and their daughters, Juli and Gina; Royal &amp; Kimber Mellinger and their children, Doralynn &amp; Nickolas; Renee Nilson and her children, Katherine (Jordan) Howard and Connor Nilson; and Brian &amp; Sheila Billings and their children, Anastasia and Xavier; numerous grandchildren; and the ContinuCare staff, Sandy Hopp Edwards, Sherri Horun, Cinda Sue Rogers, Tammi Walker, and Cici Alstatt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan &amp; Jean O’Dell; wife, Jan O’Dell; and sister-in-law, Jaymie O’Dell.

A graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM, Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Lyons Municipal Cemetery followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 AM, Thursday, at First United Methodist Church, McPherson.&nbsp;

He completed the Eagle Scout Service project in July of 1965.&nbsp; He also earned an additional award above the Eagle rank, the Bronze Palm.&nbsp; He was also selected to be a member of Order of the Arrow, and within this organization, he was nominated and elected for the Vigil Honor.&nbsp; In adulthood, he continued to be active by being a Lifesaving Merit Badge counselor and assistant Scout leader for Webelos.On July 10, 2008, Danny was involved in a car wreck, losing mobility.&nbsp; Over the years, he has overcome many obstacles due to the wreck.&nbsp; In that same year, he lost his right eye due to cancer.Danny was a former member of McPherson Free Methodist Church and current member of First United Methodist Church. &nbsp;Since 2015, he has volunteered at First United Methodist Church, making sure the building’s needs were met.&nbsp; For example, he would make sure the doors were locked.&nbsp; Since June 1, 2018, he was put in charge of all the building operations, becoming the Facilities Administrator.Danny is survived by his brother, David (Evy) O’Dell of McPherson, KS; children, Timothy (Heather) O’Dell of Minneapolis, MN, Will O’Dell of Topeka, KS, and Sheila O’Dell of Kansas City, KS; two nieces, Crystal Clobes and children, Acacia and Adie, and Rozalynn (Ken) Frey and children, Lilly, Cooper, Carter, and Caris; special friends, Gene &amp; Sheryl Railsback and their daughters, Juli and Gina; Royal &amp; Kimber Mellinger and their children, Doralynn &amp; Nickolas; Renee Nilson and her children, Katherine (Jordan) Howard and Connor Nilson; and Brian &amp; Sheila Billings and their children, Anastasia and Xavier; numerous grandchildren; and the ContinuCare staff, Sandy Hopp Edwards, Sherri Horun, Cinda Sue Rogers, Tammi Walker, and Cici Alstatt.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan &amp; Jean O’Dell; wife, Jan O’Dell; and sister-in-law, Jaymie O’Dell.A graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM, Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Lyons Municipal Cemetery followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 AM, Thursday, at First United Methodist Church, McPherson.&nbsp;Memorial donations can be made to Circles of McPherson County, First United Methodist Church (for scholarships for summer camp), or Boy Scouts of America Troop 117 in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

A private family burial at Resthaven Cemetery, Wichita, will take place prior to the memorial service in Hutchinson.

Barbara G. Zody was born an only child to Rolla and Nina (Bell) Brader on February 19, 1931, on the Gatewood Place near Sherman, Kansas. &nbsp;

She attended Caldwell Elementary School and was graduated from Labette County Community High School, Altamont, Kansas, as co-valedictorian. She attended Kansas State College, and graduated from Hutchinson Community College and Wichita State University.&nbsp;

On November 26, 1953, she married Dean Wood in Parsons, Kansas. He died July 18, 1967. &nbsp;She then married Keith Zody on April 15, 1972, in Wichita, Kansas. Keith had two children and Barbara had two children. &nbsp;After their marriage, they cross-adopted the children.

Barbara was a charter member of West Heights United Methodist Church, Wichita, chairman of the Administrative Board, president of WSCW, a youth sponsor, and Sunday School teacher. &nbsp;She later became of a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. She was chairman of the Staff Parish Committee, a member of the Building Committee, UMW, and Doers Sunday School class. &nbsp;She was the first female lay leader at Trinity. Barbara served on the Wesley Towers board as chairman of the Board of Trustees, Foundation, and Development Committee. &nbsp;She was a member of PEO Chapter HP. She served on the board establishing the Samaritan Counseling Center. &nbsp;She was chairman of Hutchinson chapter of the American Cancer Society. &nbsp;She was a volunteer at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and was a member of the hospital auxiliary. She served on the board of the Hutchinson Town Club and Community Concerts.

She was a partner in Andrews-Wood Construction and Real Estate Company in Wichita, adjunct faculty at HCC, and a licensed real estate broker for more than 20 years. She was chairman of the Hutchinson Board of Realtors and in 1995 was selected Realtor of the Year.

She is survived by her daughter, Melody Henson of Venice, FL; son, Todd Zody (Carly) of Denver, CO; and daughter, DeNene Thompson (Ben) of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren Alia Collingwood and Matthew Collingwood of Hutchinson; and Hannah Zody Kendrick (Brennan) of Denver, CO; great-grandsons, Lucas and Noah Collingwood of Hutchinson, KS; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Donna Coulter, Tonkawa, OK; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Wood, Pittsburg, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Zody; son, Bart; son-in-law, Mike Henson; parents, Rolla and Nina Brader; parents-in-law, Ward and Marie Zody; and Sam and Edith Wood.

Mary Frances Bezdek was called home on October 15, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born in Portsmouth Virginia on February 23, 1931 to Thomas and Fannie Mae Sawyer. 

Her first husband was Arthur Chester Peters Jr (Jack) and to that union 2 children were born. After her first husband died of cancer at an early age, she and her two children moved to Marion to be close to her sister Alice Kelsey (Loren) and their family. While here she met and fell in love with Norbert John Bezdek. They tied the knot on November 11th, 1961. To that union they added two more children. Norbert with his kind heart wanted the family complete and he adopted Mary Frances’s first two children on November 23, 1963. Sadly, Norbert passed in 1974.

Mary Frances babysat and worked various retail jobs in Marion and enjoyed visiting with people. Spending time with her family was her greatest pleasure. As her health started failing, she moved into St Luke Living Center where the staff enjoyed her feisty attitude and sense of humor.

Mary Frances is survived by her children John Bezdek (Lori) Olathe, Norbert Dean Bezdek Overland Park, daughters Susan Klassen (Gary) Shell Knob Mo. and Tena Waner (David-deceased) Marion.

Granddaughters Kimberly Bezdek and Erika Glock (Wes). Grandsons Neil Waner (Gloria), Nicholas Waner, and Randy Klassen (Jenn Pickler). Great Grandchildren Elise, Clara, and Vivian Waner, Haylie and Abbie Waner, Quinton and Gracelyn Glock and Mackenzie Pickler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen on Friday, Oct 20th at 10:00 am with burial in the Pilsen Cemetery immediately following. A Prayer Vigil will held 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Church in Pilsen.

Donna James, 86, died October 14, 2023, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.

Donna Jo James was born July 9, 1937, in Macksville, Kansas to Clifford Locke and Goldie (James) Locke. Donna grew up on a farm near Macksville, where she thrived in a variety of activities, including square dancing, cheerleading, and twirling (sometimes with flames). On August 14, 1955, she married Dean James and they moved to Hutchinson. It was there that they raised two daughters, Jeannene and Teresa, who became Donna’s life mission. Donna loved being a mother. She was actively involved in the girls’ school activities and PTA. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader. And, the James residence was always a gathering place for Jeannene and Teresa’s friends. Donna was a great cook and baker, and there were always plenty of cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls and other sweet treats whenever friends dropped by. Dean and Donna spent many summers on softball fields with Jeannene and Teresa, keeping scores and coaching, even for a time coaching alongside Gene Keady, who became a treasured family friend. Dean and Donna also instilled a life-long love of basketball in the girls, which began with attending HCC “Blue Dragon” games and NJCAA national tournament games over many years, and continues today with Jeannene and Teresa’s avid support of WSU and KU basketball. During high school debate season, Donna would spend nearly every weekend driving Teresa and her debate friends to tournaments across the State. When the girls were in high school and more independent, Donna started her own business, Advertising Specialties by DJ’s. She was a natural at selling anything with ad copy on it and the business flourished. Her many customers included The Dillon Companies and The Kansas Cosmosphere, which she assisted, among other things, in obtaining small space artifacts from NASA and having them encased in specialty items. She loved her work in the business, which also led to her active involvement in the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce and a lengthy stint on the Board of Central Kansas Credit Union. She made innumerable friendships along the way. Donna is survived by her husband, Dean, of 68 years, her daughters, Jeannene Schweitzer (Steve), Wichita, and Teresa James (Gayla), Prairie Village, and countless other “kids” of all ages who Donna informally adopted over the years, many of whom knew her as simply “Mom James.”

Funeral service will be 1 pm Monday, October 23, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Prior to the service a family burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm on Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Frances Louise Butler, born March 10, 1934, in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma passed away peacefully October 12, 2023 in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Frances is survived by her son, Ronnie Butler, sister Jane Tidd, brother Wyndel Powell, granddaughters Michelle Burke and Kristine Harvel and 4 great grandchildren. &nbsp;

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hazel Powell, husband, Charles Butler, son Michael Butler and sister, Betty Jo Garrity.

Frances married Charles in Pampa, TX September 23, 1950.&nbsp; In April 1954 their first son was born in Pampa, TX and they soon moved to Pratt, KS where their second son was born in May of 1956. They moved to Hutchinson, KS after their second son was born.&nbsp; Frances worked at Southwestern Bell in the Business Office in charge of special lines connections orders.&nbsp; She retired in 1988 and soon after moved to Highland Village, TX with her husband Charles.&nbsp; She enjoyed retirement in Texas with her husband.&nbsp; She loved to travel, spend time with family and sing&nbsp;Happy Birthday.&nbsp; She moved back to Hutchinson, KS in October 2021 to be closer to family.&nbsp; She had a huge smile and a big heart.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Deborah “Deb” Riley, 67, died on October 14, 2023, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas.

She was born on October 24, 1955, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Donna (Troyer) and Howard Riley Jr.

For many years Deb worked as a nurses aide at Haven Nursing Home, retiring in 1989.

Deb is survived by her siblings, Kathy, Cindy, Peggy and Bill.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Randy.

Following Deb’s wishes cremation has taken place.

Robert E. Yarmer, 90, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on October 13, 2023. Born December 24, 1932 in Ellinwood, he was the son of Joseph and Julia (Malone) Yarmer. A lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church he married Madge Buckbee there on October 14, 1977. Robert’s first job was delivering the Wichita Beacon newspaper for five years, quitting at the end of his senior year. He was a partner in Strobl-Yarmer Construction for fifty years building many custom homes in the surrounding area. After graduating high school Mr. Yarmer served in the Army.  </figure>Robert E. Yarmer, 90, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on October 13, 2023. Born December 24, 1932 in Ellinwood, he was the son of Joseph and Julia (Malone) Yarmer. A lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church he married Madge Buckbee there on October 14, 1977. Robert’s first job was delivering the Wichita Beacon newspaper for five years, quitting at the end of his senior year. He was a partner in Strobl-Yarmer Construction for fifty years building many custom homes in the surrounding area. After graduating high school Mr. Yarmer served in the Army. Marlene Ann (Crisler) Thomson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023, at her home in Valley Center, Kansas, with her husband of 63 years by her side. She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the presence of God in Heaven above.

She was born March 11,1937, a daughter of the late Thomas Russel and Mary Olga (Ansley) Crisler.&nbsp;

A 1955 graduate of Rushsylvania High School and a 1963 graduate of Ozark Bible College in Joplin, Missouri, Marlene developed a deep love of study and passion for learning. &nbsp;While an undergraduate student, she not only pursued her interests in Greek and Biblical studies but grew her skills in her love for music (choir) and her practical skills serving as the secretary to former Ozark President, Don Earl Boatman.

While a student at Ozark Bible College, she met and married Joseph Terrill Thomson at the Rushsylvania Church of Christ (now Rush Church) in Rushsylvania, Ohio, on June 17, 1960. After graduation, Joe and Marlene made their family home in Valley Center, Kansas, where they raised four sons: Jim, John, Phillip, and Matthew.

Marlene had so many gifts and talents. Using her Biblical Studies background, she was a true reflection of Jesus as she grew in grace and wisdom, as she taught Women’s Bible Studies and Vacation Bible School for years. She was a true prayer warrior as she sacrificed and served others, giving of herself in so many ways. She even made several dozen Afghan comforters that were sent to Israel to be given to elderly Jewish women by a missionary group in Israel.

Marlene was also a gifted musician and would often be heard singing in the church choir or playing organ/piano for church services or as an accompanist for her husband and others. &nbsp;She even accompanied her son, John, for the Kansas State High School Vocal Solo/Ensemble contest.

She turned her hobbies into beautiful creations as she quilted, crocheted, and cross-stitched. &nbsp;If she wasn’t stitching, you would often find her cooking or baking. Her cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls were sought after at church potlucks. Her recreations of her mother’s chocolate and butterscotch pies were enjoyed by her family. She also read books endlessly as she never tired of learning.

As her family grew, Marlene decided to return to the workplace and took a job with the Walmart company. She began her career as a cashier, and then moved into the fabric/crafts &amp; cards departments where she found great fulfillment not only as an employee, but as a friend to so many.

Marlene’s kind and compassionate spirit will be missed by her family and friends. Spending time with the ones she loved was her passion and will not be forgotten. &nbsp;The family would like to thank the Emergency Services Department of Valley Center for their help and care for her in her final moments of life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Russel and Mary Crisler; sisters Esther (Dale) Jones, June (Kenny) Birt, Norma (Paul) Daum; brothers Charles, Wellington, Welman (Marilyn) Crisler, and her twin brother Merlin Crisler; sister-in-law Marcia Kay Thomson (missionary to Zimbabwe), and brother-in-law Phil Harden.

 She was born August 1, 1952 in Goessel to George and Mary (Fricke) Friesen.  She married Richard Wiebe April 26, 1992 in Almena, Wisconsin. 

 Survivors include: husband, Richard Wiebe of Tampa; sons, Troy (Marla) Wiebe of Durham, Dalton (Lorna) Wiebe of Durham, Marlin (Bethany) Wiebe of Durham, Karlyn (Jackie) Wiebe of Binger, Oklahoma, Arlyn (Kalynda) Wiebe of Tampa; daughters, Rosalena (Orin) Koehn of New Plymouth, Idaho, Brenda (Joseph) Johnson of Arcadia, Florida; brothers, Carl (Gail) Friesen, Merle (Rosanna) Friesen; sisters, Judy (Harlan) Penner, Joyce (Don) Wenger; 34 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Norman Koehn, 92, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Moundridge Manor. He was born on October 5, 1931 in Greensburg, KS to Ben and Katie (Nichols) Koehn. 

He was a member of the United Center Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Galva, Kansas. 

 He was united in marriage to Verbie Jean Unruh on January 11, 1953 in Galva. She survives of the home after 70 years of marriage. 

Other survivors include his children, Connie (Wesley) Ensz of El Mirage, AZ, Janice (Elgin) Koehn of Elba, NE, Cynthia (Lavern) Koehn of Canton, and Anthony (Shana) Koehn of Bowersville, GA; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and brother, Ernie (Twila) Koehn of Moundridge.

Norman Koehn |1931-2023|

Steven (Skip) Von Strohe, 92, passed away peacefully with family present at his home in Marquette, KS the morning of October 9, 2023. Steven was born on March 20, 1931, in Salina, KS, the first son of Louis (Bud) Von Strohe and Twila (Steel) Von Strohe. Steven’s younger brother, Jerry Stuart Von Strohe, was born in July of 1933 and died two years later in July of 1935 from pertussis. Shortly after his younger brother’s death, the family moved from Westfall, Kansas to Boulder, Colorado. Steven grew up in Boulder, Colorado, graduating from high school there. Steven then received a ROTC scholarship that he used at Colorado State University to become the first Von Strohe in the family to attend a university and then graduate from CSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. The scholarship had a requirement that Steven would serve in a military branch of service for at least 4 years after his schooling was done. Steven chose the Air Force and was to report for pilot training in Albany, Georgia. In his senior year at CSU, Steven met a pretty brunette freshman from Denver, Colorado, Bettie Lu Stills.&nbsp; They fell madly in love, and with Steven headed for the Air Force, they decided to elope on short notice and got married in Raton, New Mexico on March 25, 1954.

Steven reported for duty at Turner Air Force Base as a fully commissioned Lieutenant due to his college training with the ROTC and began his pilot training. He quickly moved from the prop trainer to jets and the T 33. As he was rapidly moving thru flight school, he was approached with an offer to fly bombers. With his shorter stature, he physically met the requirements for the bomber cockpit. He initially said no, but when he found out the bomber he would be training with and flying was the then top-secret Boeing B-47 Stratojet, he jumped at the chance. During the Georgia training, Steven’s first son, Scott, was born in Albany. The training with the bomber moved the family to Roswell, New Mexico where his second son, Steven, was born.&nbsp; Steven moved from training to active duty in Roswell with his mission flying the B-47 bomber fully armed with a nuclear warhead in a holding pattern orbiting above the north pole area. His mission focus was to deliver the payload to the city known as Leningrad at the time. His 3 man crew flew 12 hour shifts always at the ready if the fateful call should come. Steven’s 4 years of service ended in 1958, and despite very generous offers from the Air Force, Skip (His nickname he got as the bomber pilot and commanding officer in the B-47) chose to return to civilian life and return to Denver, Colorado where his third son, Stanton, was born in 1958 and his fourth son, Spence, in 1961. Steven and Bettie moved to Dallas, Texas in 1979 after all the boys had finished high school.

Steven started a Medical Product Sales company in Dallas and when he retired at 65, he passed the business on to his sons. Bettie and Skip relocated to Hide Away, Texas and spent the early retirement years crossing the country in an RV with Hide Away as their base of operations. In 2004, Skip suffered a stroke and the focus moved for Bettie as she became his primary caregiver. Once Skip had rehabbed to the point where he was mobile again, they downsized the RV and with Bettie driving, resumed a limited travel schedule. After almost 57 years of marriage in February 2011, Bettie passed away after a yearlong bout with cancer, and Steven had lost the love of his life.&nbsp; The boys sold the family company, and Stan moved to the old family stomping grounds in Kansas, settling in Marquette, where he bought a house for Dad to spend his final years. Well known around Marquette, Skip could be seen driving his scooter thru the streets and visiting with folks at the Smoky Valley Distillery. Until the end, Skip was loved by all. Known for his love of teaching in his early years and his prolific painting in his later years, Skip established a legacy that will carry far beyond his passing.

Steven (Skip) Von Strohe is survived by his 4 sons Scott, Steve, Stan, and Spence along with their families which include 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Skip was a blessing to us all, and we will always strive to follow his favorite saying “Let’s go to Mexico Dumbo!”

A “Celebration of Life” memorial is in the process of being planned for the Spring of 2024. With this celebration, we will unite Bettie and Skip once again in their final resting place at the Franklin Cemetery in Tescott, Kansas. More information on the specifics of this event will be provided online at a later date.

Steven was born on March 20, 1931, in Salina, KS, the first son of Louis (Bud) Von Strohe and Twila (Steel) Von Strohe. Steven’s younger brother, Jerry Stuart Von Strohe, was born in July of 1933 and died two years later in July of 1935 from pertussis. Shortly after his younger brother’s death, the family moved from Westfall, Kansas to Boulder, Colorado. Steven grew up in Boulder, Colorado, graduating from high school there. Steven then received a ROTC scholarship that he used at Colorado State University to become the first Von Strohe in the family to attend a university and then graduate from CSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. The scholarship had a requirement that Steven would serve in a military branch of service for at least 4 years after his schooling was done. Steven chose the Air Force and was to report for pilot training in Albany, Georgia. In his senior year at CSU, Steven met a pretty brunette freshman from Denver, Colorado, Bettie Lu Stills.&nbsp; They fell madly in love, and with Steven headed for the Air Force, they decided to elope on short notice and got married in Raton, New Mexico on March 25, 1954.Steven reported for duty at Turner Air Force Base as a fully commissioned Lieutenant due to his college training with the ROTC and began his pilot training. Geneva Mae Turnquist, 94, of Lindsborg, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, surrounded by family at Brookdale Senior Assisted Living, Salina.&nbsp; Geneva was a homemaker, partner in the family farming operation, census worker, and election worker.

Geneva was born on July 15, 1929, on the family farm in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Bernard G. and Clara S. (Nelson) Schafer.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School.&nbsp; On October 2, 1948, Geneva was united in marriage to Donald Herman Turnquist in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children, Steve, Larry, Bryce, and Donna. Geneva and Don were married for 73 years before his passing on March 9, 2022.&nbsp;

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lindsborg, UMW, and served on several committees.

Survivors include: four children, Steven (Michele) Turnquist of Austin, TX, Larry (Kathy) Turnquist of Salina, KS, Bryce (Patty) Turnquist of Lindsborg, KS, and Donna (Emery) Wiens of Topeka, KS; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Bernadine Swanson, and brother, Bernard Schafer.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lindsborg.&nbsp; The final resting place will be in the Freemount Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Lee was born on April 24, 1930, in Atwood, KS, the daughter of Herman Mark and Charlotte V. (Shaffer) Rummel.&nbsp; She graduated from Atwood High School in 1948 and attended Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; On July 31, 1948, Lee was united in marriage to John G. Buehrle in Ellsworth, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Karen and John, II.&nbsp; Lee and John were married for 53 years prior to his passing on May 24, 2002.&nbsp;

Lee bowled in a competitive league in Atwood and was a member of the TOPS Club and KOPS Club in Salina.

Survivors include: two children, Karen Parsons (Daryl) of Burden, KS and John Buehrle, II (DeeAnn) of McPherson, KS; five grandchildren, Gail Bailey (Bryan), Scott Parsons (Lyndsay), Laura Stapleton, Sarah Buehrle Gunay (Ziya Gunay), and John Buehrle, III (Justine); nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

&nbsp;Cherri was born on May 13, 1953, in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School in 1971.

&nbsp;On September 25, 1976, Cherri was united in marriage to Frank Koehn in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons: Trevor and Trenton. &nbsp;

&nbsp;Cherri had a large collection of angel figurines, enjoyed making homemade jewelry, adult coloring books, computer puzzle games and, most of all, visiting and loving people without complaining or a sense of judgment.&nbsp; She was a member of Harmony Christian Church in McPherson, KS.

&nbsp;Survivors include: two children, Trevor Koehn of McPherson, KS, and his wife Alyssa Drury Koehn and their two daughters Clair and Evelyn; and Trenton Koehn of McPherson, KS.; Sisters: Jerilynn Nickel and her extended family; Donna Bartel and extended family; and Brenda Banman and her extended family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cherri and her husband, Frank, had many discussions about medical decisions and funerals. When the time neared for her to enter into the new life, Cherri did not want a funeral or burial but to be cremated. If you would have asked her why, she would have said, “Don’t think of my passing on, but rather celebrate life, starting now!”

William “Bill’ Eugene Debes, 81, died October 9, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS. &nbsp;He was born July 7, 1942, in Great Bend, KS, to William N. Debes and Frances (Keeley) Debes.

Bill was a 1960 graduate of Great Bend High School, Great Bend, KS. &nbsp;In 1964, he graduated from Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS. &nbsp;Bill was employed with the Kansas Department of Transportation as an accounting specialist, retiring with 36 years of service.

He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, playing Bunco at the senior center, watching old western movies, playing board and card games with his grandchildren, and volunteering in the community.

Bill’s memberships included the initial council of the Knights of Columbus at Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, KS #7279.

On September 20, 1969, he married Joelene Marie Hertach at the Holy Name Catholic Church in rural Bushton, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 54 years of marriage.&nbsp;

Bill is survived by: his wife, Joelene Debes of Hutchinson, KS; children, Dan (Wyndi) Debes of Wichita, KS, and Donna (Russ) Christianson of Saint Johns, FL; grandchildren, Rebecca (Caleb) Rains, Rachel Debes, Reece Debes, Riley Debes, Jessi Christianson, and Jacob Christianson; and sister, Caroline Moeder of Rose Hill, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herman Debes.

Keith Howard, 95, a resident of Great Bend Brookdale Assisted Living at time of death, but lifelongresident in western Reno County near Sylvia, Kansas, passed away on October 6, 2023.

He was born on February 21, 1928, north of Sylvia, Kansas, to Paul and Blanche Howard. Keith graduated from Sylvia High School. 

After graduating, Keith attended McPherson College and Fort Hays State College for 1 year each. He played basketball at McPherson College and was on the practice team of the Fort Hays State football team. He then joined the Navy for 4 years and was stationed at Norfolk,Virginia. While in the service he served as a clerk in the office of the Destroyer Division Commander on the destroyer Allen M. Sumner. 

Once back in Kansas, he married Josephine Adella Cowgill (Adella, to all) also from Sylvia, on December 25, 1956, in Hutchinson, Kansas. They enjoyed being married for nearly 63 years. After returning home from the Navy, Keith worked in the oil field as a driller at night and a farmer by day. He and Adella farmed together in the Sylvia area for nearly 57 years. 

Besides farming,Keith enjoyed hunting, playing 10-point pitch and dominos, and watching KU basketball and K-State football games. He and Adella looked forward to attending the National Junior College Basketball tournament in Hutchinson each year. They also attended church at Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarenein Sylvia and First Nazarene Church in Hutchinson. He loved getting together with family to enjoy a good, home-cooked meal followed by some games.

Keith is survived by his four children, Michel (Rhett) Jahelka of Little Mountain, SC; Melanie (Bryan) Mosier of Ellinwood, KS; Lindy (Jaime) Howard of Alden, KS; and Shane (Crissy) Howard of Denton, TX. Also surviving are his 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

They also attended church at Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarenein Sylvia and First Nazarene Church in Hutchinson. He loved getting together with family to enjoy a good, home-cooked meal followed by some games.Keith is survived by his four children, Michel (Rhett) Jahelka of Little Mountain, SC; Melanie (Bryan) Mosier of Ellinwood, KS; Lindy (Jaime) Howard of Alden, KS; and Shane (Crissy) Howard of Denton, TX. Also surviving are his 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.Preceding Keith in death are his wife, Adella; parents, Paul and Blanche Howard; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Twila (Fred) Yoder and Pauline (Clarence) Huffman; and a grandson, Nathan Daniel Franco.Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene,Sylvia, with Pastor Steve Gill officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gentiva Hospice in care of Minnis Chapel, P.
