Wayne Edwin Jacob (“Wayne-O”), age 89, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 in Newton, Kansas.  Wayne was born on February 10, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas to Arthur Homer and Clarice (Bright) Jacob.

Wayne grew up on the family farm west of Valley Center.  As a young boy he attended a one-room school house a few miles from home.  He usually walked to school; but occasionally would ride his horse. Sometimes he would carry a hot baked potato in his pocket to each at lunchtime.  He was active in 4-H and often entered his sheep in the county fair.  At Valley Center High School, Wayne excelled in sports, especially in basketball and football.  He and his then-girlfriend, Margueritte, were crowned homecoming king and queen during his senior year.  He graduated from Valley Center High School in 1952.  On August 24, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Margueritte Call.  Wayne and Margueritte enjoyed 42 years together.

As a lifetime farmer in the Valley Center, Sedgwick and Bentley areas, Wayne raised corn, beans, and wheat, as well as cattle, sheep and hogs.  He loved sharing family stories, which all ended with his endearing smile, unforgettable laugh and a twinkle in his eyes. He enjoyed watching sports on TV.  Wayne was a fan of KU, WSU, K-State, and, most of all the Kansas City Chiefs!

Wayne is best known for his great sense of humor (and that laugh, of course).  He was a kind, gentle, generous man.  He valued his connections with his family and friends.  Wayne spent his last year at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton.  He formed many meaningful relationships with fellow residents as well as the staff during his time there.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, parents, all three brothers, Don Jacob of Valley Center, Bob Jacob of Bentley, and Larry Jacob of Sedgwick.

Wayne is survived by his sons Gary (Becky) Jacob of Sedgwick, Dan Jacob (Susan Mabry) of Valley Center; grandchildren Kelly Jacob of Newton, Jay (Connie) Jacob of Bentley, and Hunter Jacob of Valley Center; great-grandchildren Charlotte and Arielle Jacob of Bentley, as well as many very special nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held after the holidays.

Baker Funeral Home of Valley Center is handling arrangements.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.bakerfhvc.com.
