Susan L. Livengood, 76, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born January 8, 1948, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Harold E. Reeves and Betty J.&nbsp;(Santee)&nbsp;Reeves. Her professional career was primarily spent serving in educational institutions, concluding at Friends University. During retirement she remained active traveling with family and volunteering for her church and the Greater Wichita YMCA.

Sue is survived by her husband of 56 years, Steven R. Livengood, along with her two daughters, Lori Livengood of McPherson, Kansas, and Kari (Corey) Ames of Maize, Kansas. Sue’s legacy lives on through her four grandchildren, Mea Ames, Andrew Ames, Lea Ames and Evan Ames. Sue is also survived by her brother James (Barbara) Reeves of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces Caitlin (Zach) Reeves Greenamyre of Atlanta, Georgia; Amelia Reeves of New Orleans; and great-nephew Sascha Greenamyre. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Carl Richard Ghere, 85, died November 14, 2023. He was born in Harper, Kansas on November 19, 1937, to Russel James Ghere and Mary Inez (Neighbors) Ghere.

He graduated from Harper High School in 1955. Carl proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia where he was a staff car driver. He worked at Eaton Corporation where he retired after almost 40 years.

In 1971, Carl took a leap of faith and went on a blind date that turned into a marriage proposal. He married Judith Ann Doane on February 26, 1972.

He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, his children Tara Ghere and Tyson Ghere (Shalah O’Callaghan); his grandchildren Danielle Ghere (Devon Dodge), Chance Ghere, and Cassidy Ghere; four great-grandchildren Jalen, Liliana, DeAndre, and Joaquin Dodge; one brother Clyde (Sharol) Ghere of Harper, KS, one sister Pauline (Doug) Oliver of Harper, KS, one sister-in-law Marilyn Ghere of Sedgwick, KS, one brother-in-law Jerry (Janet) Doane; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Howard (Donna), Leonard, Raymond, and Floyd Ghere.

Carl’s biggest passion was his family and helping others. His favorite hobbies were motorcycles and horses. He used to race his motorcycle in Marquette, KS before he started his family. He was a member of Sand Hill Saddle Club where he would take his horses Blaze, Star, and Ocho to participate in fun shows. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, growing giant sunflowers with his grandkids, western movies, and reading. He loved entertaining his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and all their friends with his long-winded tales of whatever he decided to talk about that day that usually surrounded hunting, fishing, being a cowboy, his time in the military, or growing up on the farm in Harper. When you knew Carl long enough, you got to see the ornery side of his personality with practical jokes. He kept his friends and family on their toes because you never knew what he was up to.

At Carl’s request, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery in Danville, KS at 11 a.m. A time to meet with the family and celebrate Carl’s life will be immediately following at the Harper United Methodist Church 1268 E. 14th St Harper, KS 67058.

Charles R. Summers 77, passed away on April 10, 2024, in Newton, Kansas at Presbyterian Manor. He was born on March 19 1947. He was the son of Jean Humiston and Ray Summers who preceded him in death. Visitation will be Thursday April 18, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Friday April 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Laurie Oswald Robinson was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on July 14, 1959. 

She graduated from Goshen College in 1983, majoring in Communication. A Newton resident, Laurie was a prolific writer, working for several newspapers such as Harvey County Now and Mennonite Weekly Review. She wrote two books: Forever Family, a book that documents her journey with a beloved foster daughter and Now It Springs Up, a devotional book. She was a free-lance writer, specializing in helping families create family books. She had just completed a family book for her own family.

Laurie was active in organizations like Peace Connections, planning a golf tournament and fundraising events. She traveled to South Africa, raising money and writing for Water for Life. She was a beloved teacher and substitute teacher in the Newton community. 

Laurie was married to Al Robinson in 2005. She was active in the Mennonite Church and then became a devout Catholic, where she wrote educational articles, taught classes and served as a cantor. She put 100% into everything she did and was a beloved member of every community she served.

Laurie Oswald Robinson died April 8, in a pedestrian/car accident, as she trained for the Kansas Camino Walk. 

She is survived by her husband Al, sister Jane Lambert (Vaughn), of Salina, KS, brother Neil Oswald (Kathy), of Manson, Iowa, brother Brian Oswald (Patty) of Chicago, IL and her mother-in-law, Beryl, Al's three brothers, Danny (Wendy), Ronny (Jeannie) and Michael (Wendy) and many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her father, Paul, and mother, Dorothy, sister Paula and nephew Kevin and her brother-in-law, Reggie (Jane).

Visitation and Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be on April 18, from 5-9 PM with the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the Peterson Funeral Home, with Catholic Mass on Friday, April 19, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Newton. 

Memorial donations can be made out to either Peace Connections or the Altar Society at Our Lady of Guadalupe and left in care of Petersen Family Funeral Home.

Mary was a homemaker. &nbsp;She was a member of Cedar Crest Amish Mennonite Church, Partridge, KS.

On January 20, 1955, Mary married Fred H. Yoder, in Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 49 years of marriage, prior to his death on March 24, 2004.

Mary is survived by: &nbsp;her children, Harry F. (Susan) Yoder, Susan Kay (Richard) Yoder, Wayne F. (Michelle) Yoder, Wilbur Lee Yoder, Willard Dee (Gertie) Yoder, Ruth Anne (Keith) Hershberger, Calvin Jay (Rebecca) Yoder, and David Leon (Renita) Yoder; 30 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.

Linda Ruth Neher, 60, died April 6, 2024, at Sparkling Fountain Homes Senior Care Facility, Overland Park. She was born as Alice Marie Gulling to Gerald and Darlene Gulling on November 15, 1963, in Des Moines, IA. She was adopted by Eldon LaVern and Joanna Marie (Hooge) Boese on April 6, 1965.

Linda earned an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Hesston College in 1984 and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1986 from Bethel College, Newton. She signed up for Mennonite Voluntary Service after college. The first year, she was a teacher’s aide at Friendship Day Care and the second year, she was an activities aide at Mennonite Friendship Manor, this is where she met her husband, Scott.

Linda enjoyed coloring, cross stitching, singing, playing the piano and accordion, and writing. &nbsp;

On March 25, 1989, she married Scott Edwin Neher, in South Hutchinson. They shared over 32 years of marriage prior to his death on September 18, 2021.

Linda is survived by: her children, Christopher (Savana) Neher, Katelyn (Dustin) Harman both of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Sereniti Harman, Shiloh Neher, Salem Neher; adoptive sister, Helen (Boese) Adams and husband, Brian of CA; biological siblings, Gerald, Jr., Larry, Sherry, Patsy, Helen, Betty, Kathy, Carol, Tim, Loretta, and Jessie Ann; parents-in-law, Doyle and Sharon Neher of Pfeifer; sisters-in-law, Vicki (David) Stoll of OK, Pamela (Marcelo) Hernandez of Branson, MO; brothers-in-law, Steve (Jolene) Neher of Lawrence and Jefferey (Jesica) Neher of Pfeifer.

Linda Ruth Neher |1963-2024|

John “Lyle” Manning, 89, passed away on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, in Wichita, KS. He was born on August 11th, 1934, in Stockton, MO, to Elias and Inez Manning. Lyle married beloved Goldie Faye (Hamby) Manning on December 13th, 1956, in Bolivar, MO, soon after moving to Ellinwood, KS, where they raised a family and enjoyed nearly 63 years of happy marriage.

Lyle saw the world as a young man while serving in the US Air Force starting in 1953, including memorable deployments in Greenland and France. After returning stateside, he began a career in the oilfields in 1957, retiring earlier this year after 67 years of service. His career was a great source of enjoyment and pride, and he was known for the relationships he built and the hard work and integrity he demonstrated daily. Many have memories of Lyle telling jokes and visiting with customers at Hi-La and spotting his truck driving slowly along the country roads north of Ellinwood. Most of all, Lyle loved and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face.

Survivors include daughter Peggy Manning and son Greg (Arlene) Manning of Ellinwood, brother Norman (Marilyn) Manning of El Dorado Springs, MO. Grandchildren include Alicia Manning, Keith (Sua) Herl, Charlie (Santia) Manning, Brent (Erica) Manning, Shane Herl, Jared (Jessica) Manning, as well as 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Lyle was preceded in death by wife Goldie, parents Elias and Inez Manning, daughter Carla Herl, infant son Curtis Dean Manning, sisters Imogene Hembree, Marjorie Thompson, and infant twin sisters Beaulah and Ester Manning, and brothers Eugene Manning, Lee Manning, Clifford Manning, and Glen Manning.

Lyle married beloved Goldie Faye (Hamby) Manning on December 13th, 1956, in Bolivar, MO, soon after moving to Ellinwood, KS, where they raised a family and enjoyed nearly 63 years of happy marriage.Lyle saw the world as a young man while serving in the US Air Force starting in 1953, including memorable deployments in Greenland and France. After returning stateside, he began a career in the oilfields in 1957, retiring earlier this year after 67 years of service. His career was a great source of enjoyment and pride, and he was known for the relationships he built and the hard work and integrity he demonstrated daily. Many have memories of Lyle telling jokes and visiting with customers at Hi-La and spotting his truck driving slowly along the country roads north of Ellinwood. Most of all, Lyle loved and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face.Survivors include daughter Peggy Manning and son Greg (Arlene) Manning of Ellinwood, brother Norman (Marilyn) Manning of El Dorado Springs, MO. Grandchildren include Alicia Manning, Keith (Sua) Herl, Charlie (Santia) Manning, Brent (Erica) Manning, Shane Herl, Jared (Jessica) Manning, as well as 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Lyle was preceded in death by wife Goldie, parents Elias and Inez Manning, daughter Carla Herl, infant son Curtis Dean Manning, sisters Imogene Hembree, Marjorie Thompson, and infant twin sisters Beaulah and Ester Manning, and brothers Eugene Manning, Lee Manning, Clifford Manning, and Glen Manning.

Dwight E. Spence, 93, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at The Cedars in McPherson.

Dwight was born on September 13, 1930, in McPherson, KS, the son of Homer Richard and Maggie Mae (McClain) Spence.&nbsp; He was raised on a farm just north of McPherson and attended Centerview Country Grade School just north of McPherson through the 8th&nbsp;grade.&nbsp; He attended and graduated from McPherson High School and later graduated from McPherson College with a BS Degree in Business Administration.&nbsp; He graduated from Railroad Communications School in Kansas City and worked for the Rock Island Railroad Company for 17 years as a telegraph operator and station agent.&nbsp; He worked for Kit Manufacturing Co. for 26 years in several capacities, as cost accountant, controller, purchasing manager, and general manager.&nbsp; This employment was terminated shortly after the mobile home plant in McPherson was destroyed by a tornado in June 1992.&nbsp; After retirement, he worked about nine years as a delivery person for O’Dell’s Laundry.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

On February 10, 1952, Dwight was united in marriage to Winifred Lucile Jones in Canton, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on August 7, 2003.

Dwight was an active member of the First Baptist Church of McPherson and a member of the Y.E.S. Sunday school class.&nbsp; He was a 50 year plus member of McPherson Odd Fellow Lodge No. 376 and served as Noble Grand of the lodge for several years.&nbsp; He was also a member of McPherson Elks Lodge, American Legion Post #24, and former member and past president of McPherson Light Capitol Kiwanis Club.

He had a close relationship with his family and friends and enjoyed watching his grandchildren perform in their activities.&nbsp;

Dwight is survived by his two sons: Steve Spence of McPherson, KS and Lee Spence of Hutchinson, KS; four grandchildren, April Spence of Chicago, IL, Abbigail (John) Peddieson of Henderson, NV, Dustin (Megan) Spence &nbsp;of Olathe, KS, and Alex Spence of Hutchinson, KS; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Peddieson, Eliza Spence, and Jameson Spence; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Dixie Spence; daughters-in-law, Nadine Spence and Debbie Spence; brother, Richard Spence; and a sister, Audrey McNichols.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, April 19, at the First Baptist Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Mildred Ann (Millie) Davis, 81, of Mcpherson, Kansas passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at McPherson Health and Rehab.

Mildred was born in McPherson, Kansas on February 24, 1943, the daughter of the Albert and Agnes (Willard) Pearson.

Millie attended Wickersham Elementary, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1961. Then Millie attended Sidney's Hairdressing College, Hutchinson, Kansas in 1963.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson.

Through the years Millie worked for Beaumart and First Impressions as a beautician, both in McPherson.

Millie was a member of Elks Club, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family, teaching Sunday school, collecting baseball cards and Beanie Babies, quilting, gardening, fishing, camping, boating, cooking, and traveling to the Ozarks.

Mildred Ann Pearson was united in marriage to John Mellroy Davis on October 13, 1962 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson.

She is survived by her children; daughter, Melissa (Chasson) Holcom of Tescott, KS, son, Mike Davis of Salina, KS and foster son, Monnie (Kelly) King of Hutchinson, KS;

16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and brother, Floyd (Carla) Pearson of McPherson.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mel Davis; brother, George Pearson; and her sisters, Margie Bell and Delores Stricker.

Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson. Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with The Pastor Bernita Richards officiating. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.

Larry Neal Sparks, 73, died after a courageous battle with advanced Lewy Body Dementia and health complications at Waldron Place Senior Living in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born December 16, 1950, in Standardville, Utah to Andrew and Jackie (Jensen) Sparks.&nbsp;

Larry graduated from Granger High School in Granger, Iowa in 1968 and attended Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa. He made many friends when he worked in Oelwein for Donaldson Co and Clete and Connie’s lounge. He retired in 2020 from Life Line Emergency Vehicles in Sumner, Iowa where he helped to custom build ambulances. Everyone who knew him, knew he was a was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan, with optimism for each game even against the odds. He enjoyed attending many Iowa football and basketball games in his younger years, and especially loved traveling to the Iowa Hawkeye Football Bowl Games. &nbsp;He enjoyed living his last years supporting his grandchildren by attending many sporting, dance, and school events in Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;

Larry is survived by: children, Brian Sparks (Julie) of Altoona, IA, Kirsten Paulsrud (Brad) of Hutchinson, KS, and Caroline Sparks, Decorah, IA; grandchildren, Anika, Lila and Drew Paulsrud, Megan Meyer (Ryan Thompson) and Adam Howie (Abby); and great-grandchildren, Macy and Molly Meyer, Avery, Reese, and Corbin Howie. &nbsp;

Edward “Eddie” Leroy Ventsam, 77, a Vietnam veteran, former resident of Hutchinson and longtime resident of Costa Rica, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;He was with loved ones in his final days.

Ed was born February 26, 1947, the eldest and only son of Marvin “Barney” and Ila Maurine (Burden) Ventsam. He graduated from Haven High in 1965 and attended Hutchinson Community College and Kansas State University. &nbsp;He ran cross country track, was a big brother to his sisters and spent summers doing construction work. He could build and design just about anything– a trade he learned from his dad and grandfather. &nbsp;In 1967, he enlisted in the US Army where he served in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1973. &nbsp;He returned to Haven, married, and had one daughter, Samantha Ventsam. He spent much of his adult life in Haven and Hutchinson until he relocated to Costa Rica.

He was a very proud and supportive dad and grandpa. He loved his sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was blessed with deep friendships– many spanning his entire life– and all with a full stock of memories and stories to tell. &nbsp;Ed loved to fish, cook, read, play pitch at the VFW, grow plants, landscape, listen to tunes and watch football and basketball. He was up for just about anything. Ed was highly intelligent, creative and possessed a keen understanding of people. Sometimes he had a lot to say, but more often he would sum it up in a few poignant words. He had his own brand of wit, yet also a deep sensitivity for those he loved.

Ed spent the last 15 years in Costa Rica. &nbsp;He lived a life he loved in a beautiful climate where he could enjoy blue water fishing, coastal trips, sunsets, cold beers and barefeet. He grew gorgeous plants and orchids, cooked, baked and enjoyed strong coffee and morning visits from hummingbirds at his home in San Jose. &nbsp;

Ed is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Gloria Ventsam. He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Ventsam and grandson, Zane Stewart of Olathe, KS; three sisters, Jeanette (Ed) Ladd of Hutchinson, KS, Diane (Mike) Krone of Geneseo, KS, and Dena (Jim) Kirkman of Mt. Hope, KS.

Next January, when the fishing conditions are arguably the best, we will take our dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to sea on his final fishing trip in Quepos, Costa Rica. Percy V. Mastre, 93, of Moundridge, KS, passed away April 9, 2024 at Moundridge Manor. He was born on March 2, 1931 in Middleton, Michigan, the son of Albert and Bessie (Litwiller) Mastre.

He was a member of the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Galva, KS.

Percy co-owned and operated Mastre Brothers Trucking and was a driver for Midway Motors for over 20 years.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Unruh on January 7, 1951 at Galva.

Percy is survived by his wife, Virginia Mastre of McPherson; son, Tim (Janelle) Mastre of Galva; daughters, Jodi (Steve) Johnson of Lakin, and Kay (Kent) Becker of Galva; 9 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rosa Holdeman of Barron, WI and Lois Nightingale of Moundridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mae Holdeman, Betty Koehn, and Carabel Unruh; and brother, Orval Mastre.

Alexadrian “AG” Daniel Holeman (Logan), Sr., 35, died on March 30, 2024, in Yoder, KS. He was born on November 29, 1988, in Hutchinson, KS, to Angela (Holeman) Doyle. Alex was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Floyd Logan, Sr. and RuthAnn “Sweetie” Swanson and his maternal grandparents, Norvel C. Holeman and Patricia (Pope) Stahlheber, a brother, Willie Lewis, a sister Amitty Logan and a stepson, Tayvon Starr. Alex is survived by his mother: Angela (Holeman) Doyle; fathers: Richard Logan, Sr. and Danny Lewis, Sr. (Bio); brothers: Danny Lewis, Jr., Richard Holeman, Sr., Paris Lewis, David Logan, Airon Barton, Dillon Lewis, Anthony Wilson, Gabriel Andrade’, Austin Wilson, Jeremiah Cauley, Richard Logan, Jr., Isiah Ballenger; Sisters: Danyale Lewis, Asha Barton, Precious Lewis, Jennifer Logan-Roush, My’Oshia Knox, Rica Simpson, Monique McCoy, Martiqua sons: David Kerstetter, Malikye Allen, Alexadrian Holeman, Jr.,; daughter: Adraiyah Holeman; stepdaughters: La’Liyah Davis, Liviannah Davis, Janiah Davis; and granddaughter. Alex graduated from High School at the age of 16, attended Hutchinson Community College at 18 for a short time with his mother pursuing a degree in Animation. Later on, he also attended Washburn University for a time pursuing a career in Business. He was a very skilled laborer in Construction and was knowledgeable about various different areas of his field. He loved working as long as it was something difficult and physically straining. Alex was part of the clean-up crew that went to Louisiana and Texas with the Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief in 2017 and joined several other clean-up projects that were similar. He was on the carnie circuit from September 2021 until about October 2022 and had the time of his life travelling all over the US, making new friends in every new city they visited. Alex was a believer in Yahweh and Yahshua and walked in his relationship with the Father to the best of his ability. He is a member of the Miami Nation of Oklahoma, but also a descendant of the Cherokee Nation and several other tribes.

Alex was an amazing, kind-hearted, friendly, loving and very well-liked young man. He took pride in being a dad who loved his kids more than anything and becoming a grandpa changed his entire life. Alex never knew a stranger and his arms were always open to a friend or family member in need. He gave the best bear hugs, had a contagious laugh and the warmest smile. He was a very special and unique man, who marched to the beat of his own drum. Alex often told his mother that he didn’t feel like he fit in anywhere and he was sad about that, because it made him feel left out. She’d tell him that was because he wasn’t like anyone else and that he wasn’t meant to fit in, he was meant to stand out.

Alex’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date. Alexadrian “AG” Daniel Holeman (Logan), Sr.

Jill Renee (Kauffman) Alpers, 54, of Wichita, transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home Monday, April 8, 2024, with her family by her side. &nbsp;She was born March 15, 1970, in Hutchinson, to Willis Leon and Thelma Faye (Yutzy) Kauffman.&nbsp;

Jill graduated from Kingman High School in 1988, Hesston College in 1990, and Kansas State University in 1994. &nbsp;She worked at Fruhauf Uniforms before starting a family, and again after her children were in school for a total of 15 years. &nbsp;Jill was a stay-at-home mom for 14 years, and was a gifted seamstress. &nbsp;She enjoyed running, quilting, sewing for family and friends, and made the best cheese dip and desserts. &nbsp;Jill’s main priorities were instilling a strong faith in her children and supporting them at their various activities.

Jill’s time on this earth was all too short, but her grit and determination to fight her aggressive cancer, even on the difficult days, left an imprint on her family and friends to never give up and to keep the faith. We will miss her terribly, but we know her body is now made anew and she can walk, run, and sew again.

On October 17, 1998, she married Aaron Wayne Alpers, in Wichita.

Jill is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of 25 years, Aaron; children, Nathan Alpers, Austin Alpers, and Shayla Alpers, all of Wichita; parents, Thelma and Willis Kauffman of South Hutchinson; brother, Jon Kauffman (Meg) of Bryn Mawr, PA; sister-in-law, Sonja Reiser (Dennis) of Hutchinson; nephew, Jesse Kauffman (Elsa) of Charlotte, NC; nieces, Catie Kauffman of Austin, TX, &nbsp;Allison Westbrook (Bryant) of Wichita, and Kimberly Reiser of Hutchinson; and numerous loving and supportive aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mary Jane Brunk, 95, of South Hutchinson, died April 8, 2024, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born July 6, 1928, in Pratt, KS, to Owen and Ida (Haney) Hurt.

Mary Jane graduated from Inman High School in 1946. For over 60 years, she enjoyed making and selling ceramic sculptures. Mary Jane taught others how to sculpt ceramics. She would sculpt nativity scenes, cookie jars, and large frogs. Mary Jane loved to collect ‘Precious Moments.’

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary Jane attended Journey@South Hutch.

After high school, she married and had one child with John R. Smith in Groveland, KS. He later died. On July 27, 1951, she married Ivan Brunk in Raton, New Mexico. They shared over 59 years of marriage before his death on January 14, 2011.

Mary Jane is survived by her son, Dennis Smith; stepson, Larry (Dorothy) Brunk; son-in-law, Orvin Miller; daughter-in-law, Nancy Brunk, all of Inman; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; step-daughter, Peggy Miller; step-son, Robert Brunk; step-granddaughter, Kelly Miller; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Smith.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Howard Wagler officiating. Burial will follow in North Inman Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Kurt A. Wolfenberger, 67, went to be with the Lord on April 4, 2024, at his Newton residence. He was born July 2,1956, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina to Ret. Col. Joseph H. and Mary E. (Biddick) Wolfenberger. On March 11, 1989, he married Terri Benorden in Hutchinson, Kansas.

He leaves behind his wife Terri; sons, Andrew Wolfenberger, Joseph Wolfenberger and William (Anna) Wolfenberger; daughters Lauren Wolfenberger and Hannah Wolfenberger; daughter-in-law Megan Wolfenberger; brothers Erick (Ruth) Wolfenberger, Karl (Heidi) Wolfenberger, and Paul Wolfenberger; sisters Brenda (Greg) Peterson and Greta (Michael) Kirk. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Holly, Kara, and Simeon. Erma Lee Rucker, 87, died April 7, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Erma passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was born October 31, 1936, in Trousdale, Kansas, to Gilbert and Zelma (DeHaven) O’Neal.

Erma graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1954. She worked as an administrative assistant for a printing company. Erma was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. She participated in the Altar Society and the Adoration Chapel there. Erma was a passionate reader since childhood and especially enjoyed cozy mystery novels.

On November 20, 1954, she married Jack Rucker, in Hutchinson. They shared 57 years of marriage before his passing on April 8, 2012.

William Harold Robertson Jr, 61, was born February 22, 1963, to Bill Sr and Carol Robertson in Pennsylvania. He passed away April 8, 2024, at his home in Hutchinson, surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his brother, Walter Robertson, and sister, Carol Fetzer.

Bill was a notoriously hardworking man, whether it be on the job, doing warehouse, construction, or automotive work, or in his spare time to help out the people in his life.&nbsp; William loved spending time with his family and hanging out with friends, listening to good music with good people. He enjoyed going fishing and working on cars. He will always be a rock and roll guy, forever remembered as "little in stature, big on personality."

Bill left us too soon, and while we know he's rejoined his dog Jake, he will be deeply missed by all.

William Harold Robertson Jr. |1963-2024|

Bessie Ruth Huxman, 92, of Pretty Prairie, passed away April 4, 2024, at Prairie Sunset Home. She was born June 7, 1931, in Pretty Prairie, to Tobias and Fannie (Graber) Schrag.

Bessie graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1949 and was senior class president. She was a homemaker as well as a dairy farmer's wife. Bessie also worked at Prairie Sunset Home, as an Avon representative and taking care of people both young and old. She also volunteered at Et Cetera shop in Hutchinson for many years which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting and was an excellent cook and baker. Bessie was a member of First Mennonite Church in Pretty Prairie where she was involved in music, Sunday School, and the Sewing Society.

On June 1, 1950, she married Clarence “Dale” Huxman, in Pretty Prairie. They shared 59 years together before he passed away on August 6, 2009.

Bessie is survived by her children: Lynette Peterman (Bill), Hutchinson, Dennis Huxman (Alice), Halstead, Cheryl Dooley (Tony), Haysville, Deb Ratzlaff (Ron), North Newton, Beth Darrow (Roger), Newton; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; infant daughter, Karen Sue; siblings, Erwin Schrag, Walter Schrag, Esther Albright, Ida Schrag, Emma Gehring, Joseph Schrag, Elmer Schrag, Elaine Goering; and infant, Johnny Schrag.

Funeral service will be 10 am Friday, April 12, 2024, at First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Thursday with family present from 6 to 8 pm at Elliott Mortuary.

Sheryl “Sherry” Ann Fiedler, 70, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at her son Paul’s home in McPherson.

Sherry was born on March 18, 1954, in Great Bend, KS, the daughter of Anthony Carl and Geraldine Catherine (Leiker) Fiedler.&nbsp; She attended Roosevelt grade school, Park School, McPherson Junior High School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1972.

She was a homemaker, telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, receptionist at Madison Machine Works in Rockford, IL, and waitress at Miss Piggy’s Restaurant in McPherson.

Sherry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson. She enjoyed going for walks, watching television, and camping with her family. For the past several years, Sherry enjoyed her friends and activities at Bluestem PACE.

Survivors include: her son, Paul Van Nordstrand of McPherson, KS; siblings, Gail Gill (Tim) of Stanley, NM, Janet Stine (Dan) of Roscoe, IL, Ronald Fiedler (Dee) of McPherson, KS, and Randy Fiedler of Moundridge, KS; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Kim Fiedler, Tony Fiedler, Jr., Roger Fiedler, Gregory Fielder, Duane Fiedler, and Annette Fiedler.

A Rosary will be held at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass, on Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Kerschen officiating.&nbsp;

Vicky Larson, 74, born September 1, 1949 to Marion and Lotta (Potter) Kinsey in Yates Center, Kansas, passed away peacefully April 5, 2024, in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Vicky was preceded in death by both of her parents, her sister, Lois Huntington, and her brother, Richard Kinsey.

She is survived by her daughters, Donette Porter, Jody Glenister, brother, Raymond Kinsey, sisters, Charlotte (Lonnie) Reese, Kora and Mary Lou, grandchildren, Christina (Stephen), Amanda, Nathan, Blake (Jessica), many nieces and nephews as well as extended grandchildren.

Vicky was a hardworking and passionate person who loved her family. She had many hobbies, including reading, crochet, sewing, knitting, hunting and fishing. She graduated with a business degree and worked hard for many years, jobs including accounting, insurance work, welding, and a mail carrier for USPS. She was a huge Chiefs fan and was not shy about her love of KC. 

Some of her favorite times were spending holidays with family, attending family reunions, and her beloved Bichons. She leaves Jazzy behind, but has now rejoined Piper and Keisha.Vicky was a feisty fighter filled with love&nbsp;and will be forever missed.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Fannie Mae Bontrager, 86, of Hutchinson, went home to be with the Lord April 6, 2024, at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS. She was born October 8, 1937 in Hutchinson, KS to Dick A. and Lizzie (Yutzy) Kaufman.

Fannie Mae grew up on the family farm where she actively helped her parents in all the aspects of farm life. &nbsp;She graduated from Central Christian High School, Hutchinson, in 1955. &nbsp;On August 24, 1958, she married Maynard A. Bontrager in Yoder, KS. They shared over 52 years of marriage before his death on August 31, 2010.

Fannie Mae was a faithful homemaker her entire life and was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills. There were always cookies in the cookie jar and dessert at most meals, including breakfast. She paid special attention to the care given to her youngest daughter and was her full-time caregiver for over 30 years.

Most importantly to Fannie Mae was her faith in Jesus Christ and passing this faith to her children. Fannie Mae enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, and serving in her church. She loved spending time with her family and family gatherings. &nbsp;She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Fannie Mae was a lifelong member of Yoder Mennonite Church and then Journey Mennonite Church.

She is survived by her: children, Patricia (Gary) Martin, Stuarts Draft, VA; &nbsp;Connie (Clare Goering) Stutzman, Hutchinson KS; Lyle (Tami) Bontrager, Wichita, KS; Gloria Bontrager, Inman, KS; and Terry (Angela) Bontrager, Wichita, KS; Grandchildren, Kari Martin (Chris) Hollinger, Karla (Brent) Sammann, Katie (Will) Harding, Tyler (Becca Pike) Stutzman, Taylor Stutzman, Trenton (Katie) Stutzman, Abbie(Scott) Kempin, Luke (Daniela) Bontrager, Libby Bontrager, Blake (Lainey) Bontrager, Drew Bontrager, Ben Bontrager, Emmy Bontrager and seven great-grandchildren; Sisters, Joyce (Larry) Parcell, Marilyn (John) Carmen, and Carolyn (Jim) Hartman; and sister in law, Barb Kaufman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Dick Kaufman; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ray Troyer; and son-in-law, Darrell Stutzman.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery.

Raymond Cecil Chambers, 71, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson, KS. He was born April 28, 1952, in Alva, OK, the son of Raymond and Marjorie (Rudy) Chambers. Cecil was raised by his aunt and uncle Igean and Marion Benton after his parents passed away at a young age.

Cecil graduated from Hutchinson High School. He worked in maintenance for 26 years at Carey Salt, Liberty Homes for 10 years and at Color by Design for 5 years before retiring. Cecil enjoyed fishing, motorcycle riding and gardening. On January 9, 2010, he married Bonnie Collins in Hutchinson.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle, Igean and Marion; sister, Martha Davis; brother-in-law’s, Luis Perez, Bill Collins, Michael Ray; and James Collins.
