Nita Ann McFarland, 73, of Kingman, died October 3, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Wichita. She was born March 13, 1951, in Syracuse, the daughter of Earl W. and Nina E. (Dimmitt) Seyb.
Nita graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1969 and later received her nursing degree from Hutchinson Community College. She started her nursing career at Prairie Sunset Home in Pretty Prairie, then worked as a surgical nurse for a doctor in Smith Center, and then at Kingman Hospital for over 30 years before retiring as Director of Nursing. Nita also owned and operated Mollie’s Attic in Kingman for many years. She was an avid shopper, reader – especially Clive Cussler novels, and Kansas Jayhawks fan. Nita especially loved attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
In 1970, she married Fredrick Carrithers in Pretty Prairie. He died in 1985. Nita married Merlin L. McFarland on October 16, 1987, in Smith Center. He survives.
Also surviving are: her son, Matthew Carrithers (Shanda) of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter, Megan Pipkin (Kyle) of Cheney; stepchildren, Dustin McFarland (Paula) of Wichita, Jill Fisher (Andy) of Lawrence; grandchildren, Brody Carrithers, Madeline Carrithers, Camdyn Pipkin, Hadley Pipkin, Carter Pipkin; step-grandchildren, Keegan McFarland, Tatum McFarland, Nicole Wieshar, Kennedy George (Virgil), Augden Fisher; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Mitchell Carrithers.
Cremation has taken place.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Lone Star Cemetery, 3000 W. Sun City Rd., Pretty Prairie.
Following the service, everyone is invited to join the family for refreshments at the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church, 201 S. Rhodes St.
