Dale Allen Smyres, 76, died October 6, 2024, at his home. He was born September 9, 1948, in Hutchinson, to Victor A. and Edith L. (Nelson) Smyres.
Dale graduated from Nickerson High School in 1966, and Wichita Technical Institute in 1968. He was the owner of Dale’s Northgate and had previously owned a Phillips 66 gas stations (Avenue A and Adams Street), and a Goodyear Tire store, all in Hutchinson. Dale was a member of the VFW Bob Campbell Post 1361, American Legion Lyle Rishel Post 68 and had been a member of Salt City Car Club in prior years. He enjoyed having a few beers with friends, shooting pool, fishing, softball, going to the lake, and hanging out at the family ponds.
On December 20, 1970, he married Susan Kay “Su” Dunbar, in Hutchinson. They shared over 53 years of marriage.
Dale is survived by: wife, Susan Smyres of Hutchinson; daughters, Catherine (Jeff) Miller of Phoenix, AZ , Michelle (Matt) Vogel of Lawrence, Rose (Chris Glass) Smyres of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Geoffery (Brittany) Schasteen of Cullman, AL, Ashleigh Schasteen of Springfield, MO, Haley Smyres of Hutchinson, Dalton and Kayden Smyres of Hutchinson, Rylee Glass of Overland Park, KS,; great-grandchildren, Luna Howell of Springfield, MO and Jaylie Barksdale of Hutchinson; sisters, Elsiann Wilson of Grapevine, TX and Phyllis Hawkinson of McPherson.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Richard M. “Spanky’ Smyres; and sisters, Janelda Pitts and Rozella Coleman.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Alan Atchison officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Military Honors will be conducted by McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.
