Tyrese Von Dale Moore, 24 passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. &nbsp;Tyrese was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on January 6, 2000, the son of Dawn Markel and Daniel Moore, Jr.

Throughout Tyrese's life, he loved many things but above all his biggest accomplishment was being a full-time father to his beautiful daughter, Zayla Michelle Moore. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and working out. He had many hobbies and businesses including Sangre De Cristo Locksmith and Moore Spore Store. He was a mycologist and had developed alternative therapies to help those struggling with mental and physical issues as well as people struggling with addiction. Tyrese was a loving and kind man with many friends and family from every walk of life. He loved without judgment or prejudice.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Daniel Moore Jr. (2023); his grandmother, Tina Moore (2013,) and his brother, Artadius Moore (2024).

He is survived by his daughter, Zayla Michelle Moore; his mother, Dawn (Montgomery) Markel; his brothers, DeAndre (Carissa) Hedrick, Ethan Moore, Daytryan Moore and Lyrik Ruane; sisters, Tesa Moore (Arlo Garner), Holly Dilbeck, Madison Atkins and Sawyer Barkley; grandparents, Dexter and Brenda Hedrick and great grandmother, Audrey Hedrick along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will not be a public visitation as cremation has been chosen. Services will be held at New Resurrection Church 1500 Forrest St, Hutchinson, KS 67501 on Saturday March 16, 2024, at 1 PM with Pastor Charles R. Crumble Sr. presiding. A butterfly release will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Please bring your bikes and cars. Wear casual clothes, or whatever is comfortable. Carolyn Jean (Sasse) Gillen, 79, died February 25, 2024, at Reflection Living Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born September 1, 1944, in Smith County to Albert Sasse and Rosina (Zabel) Sasse.

Carolyn was a 1962 graduate of Gaylord High School, Gaylord, KS. &nbsp;She graduated in 1966 from Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS, with a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics. &nbsp;She worked at TECH, Inc. as an admissions counselor, retiring with over 30 years of service. &nbsp;Carolyn was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, KS.

On November 25, 1972, Carolyn married Robert ‘Bob’ Ignatius Gillen in Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 44 years of marriage, prior to his death on January 9, 2017.

She is survived by: &nbsp;her children, Stuart (Ginger) Gillen of Leander, TX, Christine (Jeff) Schletzbaum of Hutchinson, KS, and Gretchen Gillen of Saint Louis, MO; grandchildren, Kayla Gillen, Sydney Gillen, Zachary Schletzbaum, Gillian Schletzbaum, and Tyler Schletzbaum; and sister, Arlene Benn of Smith Center, KS.

Gary P. Geist, 80, of Hutchinson, died February 23, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born January 4, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Wilbur Paul and Willdene (Miller) Geist.

Gary graduated from Boulder High School, Boulder, CO, in 1963. During his life, he worked for Mid America Pipeline and local school districts as a janitor, amongst others. Gary enjoyed camping, fishing, bird watching, and his dogs, Lacy and Pedro. His humor and love will be missed.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Gary was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

On March 27, 1991, he married Janice Pauline Ratlief in Hutchinson. They shared over 32 years of marriage before his passing.

Gary is survived by: his wife, Janice “Jan” Geist, Hutchinson; son, Russell “Rusty Geist, Derago, CO; daughter, Deborah May (Charles) Castinado, Hoover, Alabama; step-son, Don (Cindy) Gruver, Newton, KS; step-daughter, Blythe (Tim) Wilkinson, Hutchinson; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beverly Ray.

Cremation has taken place. There is no service scheduled at this time.

Kenneth Herman Rose, 90, of Hutchinson, died February 22, 2024, at Welsey Towers, Hutchinson. He was born June 17, 1933, on the family farm near Bloomfield in Knox County, NE, to Herman Philip and Emma (Hinzmann) Rose.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, having volunteered for the draft to earn the GI Bill, and then learned that was a hazardous way to fund an education. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and joined the USDA Soil Conservation Service (SCS), now known as the &nbsp;Natural Resources Conservation Agency. He worked for SCS for the next 37 years in several northeast Nebraska locations before transferring to Rochester, MN, and eventually Hutchinson, KS. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the American Legion Lyle Rishel Post #68, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the National Rifle Association. Kenneth enjoyed employing his creativity with wood-working and stained-glass projects, which he normally gifted to family and friends. &nbsp;He also enjoyed his weekday morning coffee gatherings with friends at Spangles Restaurant, and the activities and events offered at the Delos V Smith Senior Citizens Center and Foundation.

On December 22, 1955, he made what he felt was the best decision of his life and married his Bloomfield High School sweetheart Vivian Boland. Their oldest child Douglas Kenneth Rose was born in 1959 and succumbed to a glioblastoma brain cancer in 2010. &nbsp;In addition to Vivian, Kenneth is survived by daughter, Kellye Jean Rose and her husband Brent Gregoire of Burnsville, MN, daughter-in-law, Erica Bergsland of Edina, MN, &nbsp;grand-children Emily Rose Nghiem and her husband Huy Nghiem (Denver CO), Henry Douglas Rose (Venice CA), Matthew Boland Gregoire and wife Emilie Gregoire (Saint Louis Park MN), Benjamin Ryan Gregoire (Burnsville MN), great-grandson Tye Douglas Nghiem, brother Raymond Rose of Onawa IA, brother-in-law Herman T. Boland II of McLean Va, sister-in-law Laurie Gulbranson (Helena MT), 24 nieces and 19 nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his son Douglas, his parents, eight sisters, and one brother, 3 nieces and 7 nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be held in Bloomfield NE at a later date.

Carolyn A. Mildfelt, age 79 went home to be with the Lord on the 24th day of February 2024, in Hutchinson, KS. She was born August 1, 1944, in Leavenworth, KS, the daughter of Lucian Baker (Sarge) Wilson and Dorthy M. Wilson.

In 1951, Carolyn moved to Hutchinson and attended schools in Hutchinson and received her GED. She went on to attend nursing school in McPherson where she obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing certificate of class 23. She went on to work in area nursing homes and private duty nursing. She married Gerald Lee Martin on December 10, 1959, in Newton, KS and later divorced. She remarried Walter Mildfelt Jr. On March 22, 1981, in Hutchinson, KS and was preceded in death on May 26, 2000. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church of Hutchinson and attended other churches in the area as well.

She is survived by one son, Gerald (Jerry) Martin Jr. Of the home; two daughters, Lucinda (Cindy) Miller of Onaga, KS and Lori Strong (Rick Sands) of Rogers, AR; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and family friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her late husband Walt; son, James Christopher Martin; son-in-law, Scott Miller; brother, Larry Ray Miller, and granddaughter, Brandi Dawn Martin.

Janet Sue Regehr, 81, passed away February 23, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 3, 1942 in Garden City, KS, the daughter of Guy and Doris Rosington Green. She was a 1960 graduate of Hutchinson High School. She married Arlin Regehr on April 21, 1961 in Hutchinson, after falling in love quickly. He passed away July 29, 2000.

Janet was a caregiver by nature with a lifelong joy of sharing love and compassion for others. In her professional career, Janet had been a CNA at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and then a bookkeeper at Penner’s Feed and Supply. Later, she provided in-home childcare, and touched countless lives of her daycare families. She would later retire from Pleasant View Home, where she worked as a dietary aide.

Loyal always, Janet enjoyed close family relationships to span generations and friendships that lasted lifetimes. She loved to take traveling bus trips with her favorite buddies, Kay and Eva, was a member of the Inman Mennonite Church and the Inman Lions Club. Janet will always be remembered for her witty humor and generous heart. She loved and appreciated everyone she knew and cared deeply for all.

Survivors include her children, Susan (Regehr) Achilles, Hutchinson, Bradley Regehr, South Hutchinson, and Rock (Sheila) Regehr, Hutchinson; 2 brothers, Donald Green, Inman and David Green, South Hutchinson; a sister, Cheryl Green, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Tyler (Dalton) Achilles, Erin Achilles, Jordan (Alex) Mains, Kylie Regehr, Zachary (Brooke) Regehr, and Grace Regehr; 6 great grandchildren, and generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, a brother, Dennis Green, and her beloved cat, Jack, of nearly 20 years.

Theresa Catherine “Teri” Goodwin, 90, of Berthoud, Colorado, passed away February 22, 2024, at her home. 

She was born October 28, 1933, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Silvio Felix and Katie (Altieri) Roncace. Teri has resided in Berthoud since 2018, formerly of Peoria, Arizona, Longmont, Colorado, and Granada Hills, California. She graduated from Norristown High School in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Teri worked as an escrow officer in real estate for many years. On November 14, 1964, Teri was united in marriage with Vinnie Garold “Jerry” Goodwin Jr. in Van Nuys, California. They loved to go dancing and play golf. Teri was a past member of the Fox Hill Country Club in Longmont, Colorado and Westlake Village in Peoria, Arizona. She was a devout Catholic stemming from her family and education at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Norristown Pennsylvania. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. 

Teri is survived by her husband, Jerry of Berthoud, CO; daughter, Vikki Proctor and husband Mark of Berthoud, CO; step-son, Doug Goodwin of Hutchinson, KS; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. Teri is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Armand E. Roncace, Silvio A. Roncace, Peter J. Roncace, and Joseph P. She was born October 28, 1933, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Silvio Felix and Katie (Altieri) Roncace. Teri has resided in Berthoud since 2018, formerly of Peoria, Arizona, Longmont, Colorado, and Granada Hills, California. She graduated from Norristown High School in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Teri worked as an escrow officer in real estate for many years. On November 14, 1964, Teri was united in marriage with Vinnie Garold “Jerry” Goodwin Jr. in Van Nuys, California. They loved to go dancing and play golf. Teri was a past member of the Fox Hill Country Club in Longmont, Colorado and Westlake Village in Peoria, Arizona. She was a devout Catholic stemming from her family and education at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Norristown Pennsylvania. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Teri is survived by her husband, Jerry of Berthoud, CO; daughter, Vikki Proctor and husband Mark of Berthoud, CO; step-son, Doug Goodwin of Hutchinson, KS; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. Teri is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Armand E. Roncace, Silvio A. Roncace, Peter J. Roncace, and Joseph P. Kenneth R. “Ken” Willard, 75, formerly of Hutchinson, passed into heaven on February 24, 2024. He was born July 4, 1948, in Miami, OK, to Rev. Kenneth L. and Betty L. (Skaggs) Willard.

Ken was a 1966 graduate of Overland Christian High School, Overland Park. In 1968, he answered Uncle Sam’s call and joined the U.S. Navy, serving until 1972. Ken was stationed aboard the USS Ogden, off the coast of Vietnam, and then spent two years at the Naval Air Station, Key West, FL.

On December 26, 1970, he married Deanna Kramer, in Melvern. They shared 53 years of marriage. They adopted a baby girl, Tara Suzanne, in January, 1980. A daughter, Tamra Dyan, was born to them in October, 1981. In 1994, they adopted two brothers and a sister: Shawn Michael (10), Wayne Jordan (8), and Kymena RaeAnn (6).

Ken had a love of politics and completed a political science degree from Washburn University in 1982. He served on the USD 309 school board and on the Kansas State Board of Education for 16 years, a term as President of the National Association of State Boards of Education, as well as various local offices with the Republican Party.

Ken had a 40-year distinguished career as an insurance adjuster, agent, and district sales manager, mostly with American Family Insurance. He was a member of the All-American 25-Year Hall of Fame.&nbsp;

Ken’s main passion was sharing Christ through the church. He was a soloist, choir director, church board member, and also went on many Work &amp; Witness trips to Haiti, Brazil, Sri Lanka, and Fiji, helping with building projects and showing the Jesus Film. Ken was a long-time board member of Kansas Christian College. He and Deanna were members of RV’s On A Mission (ROAM), traveling to church campgrounds from Arizona to Florida to help on work projects.

Ken is survived by: his wife, Deanna; mother, Betty Willard, Hutchinson; daughters, Tara Willard, Hutchinson, Tamra Munguya (Womba), Monument, CO, Kymena Silmon (fiancé Siraj Siddique), Wichita; sons, Shawn Willard (Maria), Gilmer, TX; Wayne Willard (Samantha), South Hutchinson; grandsons, Clay Eckert, Dylan Willard, Dederick Willard-Trass, Dontrell Willard-Trass, Trenton Willard, Caleb Willard, Chayvin Willard, Donnell Willard-Silmon; granddaughters, Kyah Munguya, Arianna Munguya, Ileah Munguya, Michaela Willard, Kelcie Willard, Linzey Willard, Sarah Willard-Silmon, Anna Silmon; great-grandchildren, Izayah Willard, Lehlani Willard; brothers, Gerald Willard (Glenda), Leonard Willard (Jennifer), sister, Ruth Croy (Jeff); sister-in-law, Ginna Willard; five uncles and their spouses; two aunts; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Inspire Church (formerly First Church of the Nazarene) 4290 N. Monroe, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by United States Navy Honor Guard.

Shirley Ann Kelly, 78, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away at 6:10 am, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Pine Village, Moundridge, KS.

Shirley was born in McPherson, Kansas on April 13, 1945, a daughter of Eli H. and Ann E. (Kaufman) Koehn.

Shirley attended McPherson grade schools and graduated from McPherson High School,McPherson, Kansas in 1962.

Through the years Shirley worked at Farm Bureau as a bookkeeper, worked at Holiday Manor, Wendy, Copeland Supply and was an owner operator of a cleaning company.

Shirley enjoyed baking, cooking, needle point, loved her animals, Bingo and spending time with her friends and family.

Shirley Ann Koehn was united in marriage to William R. Hall on September 16, 1965 in McPherson, KS.She is survived by her children, Jay, Hall(Melissa), of &nbsp;Warrensburg, MO, Shirlene Clayton(David), of &nbsp;McPherson, KS and Wade Hall, of McPherson, Ks.

She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.

Viola “Vi” Pettay, 75, died February 23, 2024 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, surrounded by her entire family. She was born August 4, 1948 in Great Bend, Kansas, to Leonard &amp; Maxine (Trent) Mings.

On May 22, 1965, she married the love of her life, Jack Pettay, in Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 58 3/4 years of marriage.

For most of her adult life, Vi thrived as a home-maker and volunteered in her church and the community. When Vi was not with her family, she was working in the service industry – from JC Penny’s to Sirloin Stockade to Bogey’s – she never met a stranger. She had an incredible capacity to make every person feel like the most special person in her presence. &nbsp;Children instinctively loved her and were drawn to her.&nbsp;

Vi had an unconquerable faith in her Savior Jesus Christ and was an exceptional wife and mother. &nbsp;She was kind, vivacious, quick-witted, and generous. She always saw the best in others - constantly rooting for the “underdogs” of life. &nbsp;Even though she faced years of health challenges, she remained the ultimate optimist.&nbsp;

Living to cherish her memory are: her loving husband, Jack Pettay of Hutchinson; sons, Karol Pettay of Hutchinson, Roger (Laura) Pettay of Virginia, and Mark Pettay (Amanda Rigg) of Hutchinson; 5 grandchildren: Nicholas Rizzo, Lauren (Justin) Phinney, Lance Pettay, Logan (Steven) Rose, Meadow Pettay; 3 great-grandchildren: Brendyn Bickel, Zaedyn Butterworth, and Wren Phinney (and one on the way); her beloved sister, Carroll Farrow of St. John; brother-in-law Everett Pettay of Hutchinson, along with numerous cherished nieces and nephews, and “adopted daughters.”

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Maxine Ruth, her parents, step-mother, a brother and two sisters, her parents-in-law, &nbsp;and numerous cherished brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Viola “Vi” Pettay |1948-2024|

Our Dad, Ronald Douglas Irvin was born on October 28, 1944 in Rotan, Texas to Milford Linnis Irvin and Norene Pearl Irvin. He was one of four children, a brother Thomas Charles Irvin, sisters Mary Lou Tankereley and Sue Stevens.&nbsp;

Dad married Brenda Jowers in 1964, and to this union were two children, Troy Irvin and Ronda Irvin; four grandchildren Dustin Hrencher, Kerry Wise, Garrett Irvin and Madison Haury;&nbsp; great grandchildren Kyleigh Hrencher, Gage Wise, Riley Wise and Venus Hrencher, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded by his parents, brother Thomas, sister Mary Lou and granddaughter Madison.

Dad did lots of cowboying and ranching to make a living in the 60's. Later in life he was a truck driver for various trucking companies and retired as a truck driver.&nbsp; Our family lived mostly in Sweetwater, Texas.&nbsp; He passed away on February 16, in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 79.&nbsp; He will be greatly missed.

He was one of four children, a brother Thomas Charles Irvin, sisters Mary Lou Tankereley and Sue Stevens.&nbsp;Dad married Brenda Jowers in 1964, and to this union were two children, Troy Irvin and Ronda Irvin; four grandchildren Dustin Hrencher, Kerry Wise, Garrett Irvin and Madison Haury;&nbsp; great grandchildren Kyleigh Hrencher, Gage Wise, Riley Wise and Venus Hrencher, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded by his parents, brother Thomas, sister Mary Lou and granddaughter Madison.Dad did lots of cowboying and ranching to make a living in the 60's. Robert Dean Coffman, 94, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas.

Robert was born in Anthony, Kansas, on September 20, 1929, to Acie and Juanita (Emmele) Coffman. &nbsp;He was joined in the family by his brothers Rex and Ron, and sister Anita. &nbsp;He attended schools by horseback in Sharon, Kansas, until his family moved to Gridley, Kansas, where he began high school while pitching hay for his father’s haying business in the summers. He and his brothers fished, hunted and trapped game, especially along the Verdigris River, making traditions and memories they passed on later to their sons. He attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia on a football scholarship that included housing under the football stadium and the opportunity to hunt quail for dinner. He received Small College All-American honors playing Defensive End.

Robert married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Werts, on July 30, 1950. &nbsp;He taught one year at Toronto, Kansas, until he was drafted into the Army and stationed at Fort Ord, Monterrey Bay, California. While there he had the opportunity to play catcher for the Army Softball team, contributing to the team winning the national Army tournament. &nbsp;His son, Donaven, and daughter, Cynthia, were born during their time in California.

The family returned to Kansas where Robert took a position teaching and coaching football, basketball and track at Peabody High School from 1954 to 1959. &nbsp;During that time the football teams went undefeated for three years and the 1958 team was voted state football champions; these players became lifetime friends and hunting partners and Robert and Marjorie enjoyed travel to the reunions of these classes. &nbsp;Brenton and Alisa were born to the family during these years.

Robert joined the Newton High School staff in 1959 as football and track coach while teaching math courses and officiating college basketball. &nbsp;In 1964 he began coaching and teaching at Wichita North High School until Wichita Northwest High School opened in 1978 and he became Athletic Director. &nbsp;He was appointed to serve as Kansas State High School Athletic Director President.

Robert enjoyed his hunting dogs and playing partner bridge with his wife and friends. &nbsp;In retirement he stayed busy with woodworking and assisting his son, Brent, with his roofing company. &nbsp;He delighted in meeting new people and telling stories. In his later years he anchored his family with weekly Saturday morning breakfasts at the Village Inn.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie of 61 years, his brothers Rex and Ron, his son, Donaven and his son-in-law, Dick West. &nbsp;He is survived by his sister Anita (Gary) Gilgen of Noel, Missouri, and sisters-in-law Marian Coffman of St Louis, Missouri, and Betty Coffman of Wichita and his children Cynthia Montgomery of Wichita, Brent (Michelle) Coffman of Newton, and Alisa West of Wichita and daughter-in-law Susan Coffman of Bella Vista, Arkansas. &nbsp;Grandchildren Steven (Emily) Montgomery of Wichita, Derek (Charo) Swoyer of Albuquerque, NM, Danika (Kyle) Wells of Wichita, Brady (Kristen) Coffman and Mallorie (Sean Heaton) Coffman of Newton, Ryan Coffman of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Jonathan Bessel of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Alex Bessel of Wichita and ten great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. &nbsp;Following the service, the family will greet friends at a Celebration of Life at the Wichita Country Club, 8501 E 13th Street, Wichita, from 2:30-4:30 pm.

Delores L. Lakin, 85, of Junction City, KS, died February 17, 2024, at Enterprise Estates Nursing Center, Enterprise, KS. She was born July 30, 1938, at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson, to Fred H. and Minnie L. (Roberson) Evans.

She was a loving and devoted daughter, teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. &nbsp;Delores was a member of the First Baptist Church in Junction City.

On June 4, 1962, she married Merle L. Lakin in Guymon, OK. They shared over 27 years of marriage and building their family before his passing. &nbsp;Showering her children in unconditional love they raised daughter Melinda (1963), and sons Jay (1967), Kent (1969), and Todd (1973). &nbsp;

Delores graduated from Buhler High School in 1956. She continued her lifelong educational journey proudly across various Kansas institutions with credits earned from Hutchinson Community College, Friends University, Emporia State University, Wichita State University, and Kansas State University. &nbsp;Milestones of her education included graduating from McPherson College in 1961 with a degree in Education &amp; Psychology and a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Kansas.

Delores started her career as a first grade teacher in Kechi, Kansas. After marrying, she briefly traveled the country working with her husband in door to door sales. &nbsp;She returned to teaching at Turner Unified School District (USD), in Turner Kansas. &nbsp;Highlights from Turner included taking her fifth grade class to the 1964 Beatle’s concert in Kansas City. &nbsp;She continued her career teaching and serving the communities they lived in with stops in Macksville and Grainfield Kansas; Minden, Nebraska; and Lakota, Iowa. &nbsp;Finally settling in Junction City, KS, she worked for USD 475 from 1971 through her retirement in 1997.

Delores is survived by: daughter and family, Melinda (Larry) and Neil Vallon, Junction City; son, Jay Lakin, Junction City; son and family, Todd (Monica), Nathaniel, Isabella, and Nicholas Lakin, Overland Park, KS; sister, Evelyn Belt, Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Gayle Evans, Wellington, KS; and numerous extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Kent Lakin; sister, Doris Evans; brother, Murriel Evans; and brother-in-law, Raymond Belt.

Emilie Ellen (Rowland) Dell, 84, McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully February 2, 2024 at Norterre Laurel Memory Care in Liberty, MO. Emilie was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, dedicated and passionate teacher and friend.

Born on October 1, 1939 in Hutchinson, KS, Emilie was the youngest of six kids. She grew up on the farm helping with chores and learning lifelong skills. Emilie started first grade at the age of four and graduated from Buhler HS at the age of sixteen. She attended Hutchinson Community College and was a part of the last graduating class to receive a teaching degree in just two years. She received her bachelor’s degree in Education from McPherson College.

Emilie married Rev. Robert (Bob) Dell, in 1961 in Hutchinson, KS. Emilie and Bob lived in many places, and she was always active in her local church and school. She taught elementary for several years, came home to raise her four children until they entered school and then she returned to teaching. Emilie received her master’s in Special Education which she taught until she retired. Her children all married and blessed her with 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Grand mothering was a major interest.

After retirement, Emilie and Bob returned home to McPherson, KS. She enjoyed weekend outings with her husband, hosting and traveling to visit family and friends, working in her garden, living a healthy lifestyle, singing, reading, all while being active in her church and community. Emilie once wrote, “I do not ever remember a time when faith in God and a spiritual life were not part of my life.”

He was born in 1941 to Ray and Evelyn Hackney in Newton, Kansas. The family later lived in Missouri before returning to Newton, where Merle graduated from Newton High School in 1959.

After serving in the United States Navy&nbsp;at the US Naval Air Station in Seattle, Washington, Merle returned to Newton. In 1971, he married Barbara Stone. In his career as a machinist, he worked at Hesston Corporation, Keyes Manufacturing, and BMG of Kansas.

Merle will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who supported his loved ones’ aspirations and celebrated their accomplishments. As a longtime league bowler, he loved sharing his enjoyment of bowling with his grandchildren. He was also an active hobbyist with a talent for woodworking and woodcarving, a keen reader who especially enjoyed Western fiction and history, and a devoted fan of the Chiefs and the Royals (and every Kansas school attended by his grandchildren). He supported the youth in the community by providing handmade rolling pins to the Harvey County Fair Champion 4-H pie bakers.

Merle is survived by his wife Barbara; his daughters Meagan (Clark) Baldwin of Newton and Nancy Hackney of Maize; his grandchildren Jenna Baldwin and Callan Baldwin of Newton and Joseph Aharoni of Las Vegas, Nevada; his brothers Galeard (Ilene) Hackney and Donald Hackney, both of Newton; his sister Carol (Roger) Blair of Newton, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Evelyn Hackney, and his brother Terry (Laurie) Hackney.

Richard Lee “Dick” Mehl, 81, of Hutchinson, died February 22, 2024, at his home. He was born September 26, 1942, in Ellsworth, Kansas, to A.C. “Shorty” and Mary “Odah” (Fail) Mehl.

Dick graduated from Holyrood High School in 1960. In 1963, he joined the United States Coast Guard and served until 1967. On October 12, 1968, Dick married Mona Louise Greer, in Mesa, Arizona. They shared 55 years of marriage. He worked as maintenance mechanic and retired with Eaton Corporation. Dick was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, playing card games with family and friends and volunteering at the church. He loved being outside and always planted a great garden with Mona. His grandkids always knew to jump into grandpa’s lap so they could grab a mint from his front pocket. They also knew to never challenge grandpa to a handshake contest because they were guaranteed to lose. One of his fondest memories was taking an extended two-week trip with his beloved wife, Mona, to Arizona to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

He is survived by: wife, Mona Mehl, Hutchinson; sons, Darren Mehl (Geena), Lincoln, Nebraska, Brandon Mehl (Letishia), Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Damon Mehl (Erika), Jacob Mehl (Kelsey), Lauren Brown (Sam), Cami Brannen, Conner Mehl (Megan); and seven great-grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 11 am Monday, February 26, 2024, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (lunch following the service). He was born September 26, 1942, in Ellsworth, Kansas, to A.C. “Shorty” and Mary “Odah” (Fail) Mehl.Dick graduated from Holyrood High School in 1960. In 1963, he joined the United States Coast Guard and served until 1967. On October 12, 1968, Dick married Mona Louise Greer, in Mesa, Arizona. They shared 55 years of marriage. He worked as maintenance mechanic and retired with Eaton Corporation. Dick was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, playing card games with family and friends and volunteering at the church. He loved being outside and always planted a great garden with Mona. His grandkids always knew to jump into grandpa’s lap so they could grab a mint from his front pocket. They also knew to never challenge grandpa to a handshake contest because they were guaranteed to lose. One of his fondest memories was taking an extended two-week trip with his beloved wife, Mona, to Arizona to celebrate their 40th anniversary.He is survived by: wife, Mona Mehl, Hutchinson; sons, Darren Mehl (Geena), Lincoln, Nebraska, Brandon Mehl (Letishia), Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Damon Mehl (Erika), Jacob Mehl (Kelsey), Lauren Brown (Sam), Cami Brannen, Conner Mehl (Megan); and seven great-grandchildren.Dick was preceded in death by his parents.Memorial service will be 11 am Monday, February 26, 2024, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (lunch following the service). Richard Lee “Dick” Mehl |1942-2024|

Frances J. Martin, 97, of Houston, TX, died February 20, 2024, at Apex Oaks at Cypress Assisted Living, Houston, TX. She was born April 10, 1926, in Hutchinson, KS, to Charles Lee and Gertrude T. (Bressler) Detter.&nbsp;

Frances was a 1944 graduate of Hutchinson High School. She attended Hutchinson Community College and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1948. Frances was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She worked as a journalist for the Hutchinson News Herald and a librarian for the Palm Beach County School District in Florida. She was a bookkeeper for the Naturalizer Shoe Store in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, which her husband owned.

Frances was a member of Jersey Village Baptist Church, Houston, TX. She was a 77 year member of P.E.O. and would become a member of a P.E.O. chapter wherever she lived.

On March 23, 1952, she married George D. Martin, Jr., at the First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 61 years of marriage, prior to his death on April 14, 2013.

Frances is survived by: children, Ruth (Mack) Preece-Duncan of Houston, TX, Phillip (Maria) Martin of Jupiter, FL; grandchildren, Nicole (Josh) Carroll of Cypress, TX, Brandon (Jessica) Preece of Houston, TX, Erik (Kristin) Martin of Atlanta, GA, Jenelle (Geoff) McNeill of Jupiter, FL; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Jack, and Emily Carroll of Cypress, TX, Ava and Caiden McNeill of Jupiter, FL, Daniel and Noah Preece of Houston, TX.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; and four brothers.

Marie Mitchell, 97, passed away on February 20, 2024, at Thorne Care Center- Wesley Towers, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born on January 8, 1927, to Elijah and Bessie Bowman Reeves in Thayer, KS.

Marie married Jimmie Lee Mitchell on August 1, 1978. &nbsp;He passed December 19, 1993. &nbsp; She was an excellent homemaker who thoroughly loved her family. &nbsp;She was the epitome of how to treat all people. &nbsp;Marie was a faithful woman. &nbsp;In her younger years, she was known for gardening and making lots of apple pies. &nbsp;She enjoyed bingo, activities at the Delos Smith Senior Center, sewing Barbie clothes for her granddaughter as well as creating stuffed animals (enjoyed stuffies until the end) and being a part of whatever was going on. &nbsp;Marie loved the activities with Tanda at Thorne. &nbsp;Her dogs- Muffin and Tinkerbell- were her loyal companions.

Marie is survived by her children: Connie Ankenman of Hutchinson, Patricia Geiger of Erie, Debbie Schiffelbein of Garden City; her brother Donald Reeves of Chanute; three grandchildren- Ginger Bauer of Burrton, Thad Ankenman of Olathe and Adam Ankenman of Hutchinson, nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; her parents; husband; grandson Micah; two great-grand babies; brothers Faye, Roy, Wayne and Larry; and sisters Ethel, Marjorie and Norma.

Cremation has taken place. &nbsp;There will be a private family inurnment in the Abbey Columbarium- Memorial Park, Chanute, KS.

Frank Almanza Jr., 86, died February 21, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July, 23, 1937, in Hutchinson, to Francisco and Felis (Ponce) Almanza.

After his high school graduation, Frank joined the United States Navy. He worked as a correctional officer for the Kansas Department of Corrections in Hutchinson, he retired after 28 years of service.

Frank enjoyed playing golf, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Hutchinson.

On March 19, 1965, he married the love of his life, Rumaldita ‘Romey’ Serna, in Albuquerque, NM. They shared over 58 years of marriage.

Frank is survived by: his loving wife, Romey Almanza of Hutchinson; sons, Daniel (Katherine) Almanza of Lawrence, KS, and Christopher (Ying) Almanza of Winfield, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Ave., Hutchinson, KS. Melissa Ann (Sanchez) Garcia, 49, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS, after a 4 year battle with cancer. She was born November 4, 1974, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Jimmy and Linda Mendoza) Sanchez Sr.

Melissa graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1993. She played the saxophone and participated in the marching bands during her school years. She enjoyed playing games and spending time with her family. She loved music, dancing and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Melissa is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Linda.

She is survived by her wife, Holly Hoyle; son’s Chase Sanchez and Gabriel Hoyle; sisters, Sonya, Susan, and Denise; and brothers, Jimmy and David.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., February 24, 2024 and Celebration of Life will follow at 10:30 a.m., both at New Resurrection Church, 1500 Forrest St. Hutchinson, KS. Gregorio Franco, 92, went to his heavenly home February 19, 2024. He was born January 7, 1932, in La Plata, Puerto Rico, the son of Navaro and Isidra (Rodriquez) Franco.&nbsp;

He moved to Michigan for work and soon learned of a job available at Hay and Forge in Hesston. He worked there as a crew chief in the shipping department from a year after it opened until his retirement.&nbsp;

He married Edna Mae Goad April 30, 1960. They had two children and moved to Walton where Greg proudly raised his children and his huge garden, often suppling many neighbors. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He took great pride watching each grandchild and great-grandchild as they grew and even helped him in his garden. He gave his heart to the Lord last year making that one of his and his family’s happiest day.

He is survived by his children, Cheri (Patrick) Stabler and David Franco; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Dustin) Flaming, Steven (Cyndi), Matthew Nathaniel Stabler, Jacob (Natalie), and Kylee Franco; six great-grandchildren, Dakota, Alexi, Jackson, Zoey, Brooks, and Benjamin.&nbsp;

Greg was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; and siblings, Salvador, Angel Louis, Herminia, Flora, and Louisa.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be 10am, Tuesday, February 27, at The Church of God of the Firstborn, 125 E. 10th, Newton, with Pastor Charles Brackeen presiding. Visitation will be from 5-9p.m. the evening prior, Monday, February 26, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas.&nbsp;

Memorials may be made to the family to help offset funeral expenses.
