Ronald M. “Ron” Dale, 52, passed away on June 26, 2024, at his home in Haven. He was born on September 28, 1971, in Oshkosh, WI, to Robert M. and Marilyn (King) Dale.

Ronald graduated from Haven High School and then received his Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas Wesleyan University. Ronald touched the lives of many as a paraeducator and Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Haven High School. His passion for working with youth extended beyond the classroom and court, as he generously volunteered his time as an umpire for youth in Haven. Ronald's commitment to nurturing and guiding the next generation left a lasting impact on the community, and his presence will be dearly missed. In his spare time, he could be found reading or spending time on the golf course.

Ronald is survived by his brother, Kevin Dale of Castle Rock, CO.

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Rayann Rucker, 78, of Sharon, KS, died Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital.

She was born on October 3, 1945 in Anthony, KS, the daughter of Raymond Bloomer and Tharon (Evans) Bloomer. On November 3, 1963, she married Merle Rucker in Attica, KS. He survives.

Rayann was a homemaker. She made wedding and birthday cakes for many years, as well as working part-time at the Busy B in Medicine Lodge. She loved doing arts and crafts. She was a wonderful seamstress, making clothes for her daughter and granddaughters. In later years, she became an avid quilter. Her beautiful quilts were given away during Christmastime to her family. She did a drawing to see who would be the lucky recipient of her quilts. Each family member has received at least one of her creations throughout the years.

Rayann loved going to town to have coffee or play cards with the gang. She would tell her husband, “I’m going to spread some sunshine.” For many years, Rayann was an integral part of the “garden.” We are not talking about any old garden here. It was a big production of many vegetables. The “garden” was known for its tomatoes. She met many people while selling their produce.

Rayann had the best ability to find the good in people. She instilled the traits of never saying unkind words about people to her family. One of Rayann’s joys was going to support her grandkids and children’s activities. If she were unable to attend, you count on a phone call to see how they did in their activity. The activities ranged from county fairs, scouting, sporting events, solos and musicals. She loved every minute of it. She became everyone’s mom or grandma at those events.

She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, KS, the Quilting Guild, Harper, Altar Society, County Election Board, Parish Council, County of Aging, 4-H club leader for Sharon Valley 4-H Club and secretary/treasurer for the Sharon Senior Center.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Merle Rucker of Sharon, KS are one daughter, Angie (Vern) Kisner of Copeland, KS and their children, Shaelyn (Travis) Budke and Connor and Delaney of Hays, KS and Evan Kisner of Kansas City; one son, Ed (Bev) Rucker of Hoxie, KS and children, Quenton of Tribune, KS, Tabor of Hays, KS, Victoria (fiancé Tanner Grant) of Hays, KS and Elyssa of Hoxie, KS; two brothers, Galen (Marigene) Bloomer of Wichita, KS and Mike (Shelly) Bloomer of Haysville, KS; many nieces and nephews. Rayann was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Tharon (Evans) Bloomer.

Cremation has taken place. Rosary service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, KS with Father Emmanuel Kosikumah officiating.

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juan Clemente Rodriguez, affectionately known as Juanito, on June 26, 2024. Juanito, born on February 24, 1976, in Wichita, KS, was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him.

Juan met and married the love of his life Nancy Aguero on August 29, 1997.

A man of resilience and kindness, Juanito worked at Moundridge Manufacturing Inc until his illness forced him to leave. Despite his challenges, Juanito found joy in watching sports, particularly his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, and had a passion for fixing cars in his free time. Known for his humor and willingness to help others, Juanito's warm presence and storytelling endeared him to all he encountered.

Juanito is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Rodriguez, and his devoted sister, Monica Mosqueda. He will be forever remembered by his nieces and nephews: Monique Smith, Maria Smith, Michael Trillo, Danielle Trillo, Gabriela Rodriguez, Angel Rodriguez, David Trillo, Antonio Mosqueda, Darrian Horton, and Jonathan Aguero. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores Gomez Rodriguez and Juan D. Rodriguez.

Funeral services to honor Juanito's life will be held at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Rosary will take place on July 5, 2024, at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass at 10:00 am. In line with Juanito's wishes, he will be cremated following the services and laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Angela graduated from Enterprise Academy in 1985 and attended Hutchinson Community College.

She was married to and had three sons with Charles Johnson; they later divorced.

Nell Pruitt, 80 passed away peacefully, Saturday January 27th. She was born March 25,1943 in Hutchinson, daughter of Lawson C and Elfie Mae (Worth) Britain.

Nell graduated Hutchinson High School in 1961. She went on to Beauty School where she dyed her hair pink and gave at home color jobs to the girls in the family. You’ll still find her pink school brush in the bathroom drawer. Nell loved being a homemaker, she was also a master gardener with beautiful blooms year-round. Nell enjoyed sewing and was quite good. She would re-upholster furniture and sew clothes for her family, even the granddaughter’s dolls. Nell would make special fun birthday cakes for the kids. Don and Nell loved Christmas baking together for family and friends. Following her love of cooking and food, she was the Superintendent of the Foods Department at the Kansas State Fair Domestic Arts Building for many years. Nell was also an avid volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drives for many years.

Nell married Brian Cole in 1962; they had two daughters, Renee and Penny. She married Don Pruitt, the love of her life in July 1983 and gained 6 stepchildren.

Harold John Dirksen, 95, died June 25, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born June 15, 1929, in Hutchinson, to Peter John “Pete” and Bertha Luella (Prichard) Dirksen.

Harold received his GED while serving in the United States Army and attended the Salt City Business College. He was a Staff Sargent of the United States Army and served for eight years, as well as a member of the United States Air Force, where he served for four years. Harold worked as a clerk for the Morton Salt Company for over 35 years. In retirement, he and his wife, Fumiko, began dealing antiques at local flea markets. Harold was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time fishing around Cheney, Neosho and Abilene. He liked to find and collect old bottles.

On January 13, 1954, he married Fumiko Tanaka, in Tokyo, Japan. They shared over 74 years of marriage.

Harold is survived by: wife, Fumiko Dirksen of Hutchinson; children, Diana (Charlie) Mitzner of Abbyville, Steve (Tina) of Salina; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; children, John Dirksen, Dianna Dirksen; sisters, Juanita Gross and Katherine Scantlin.

Harold John Dirksen |1929-2024|

Melvin Everett Leroy Tipton, Jr., 79, passed away June 23, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born September 1, 1944, in Washington, D.C. to Melvin Everett Leroy and Faye (Perryman) Tipton, Sr.

Melvin served in the military, where he made a career of defending our nation and mentoring the soldiers that he led. He also worked for both the City of Hutchinson and Reno County fire departments throughout his storied career of over 30 years. He retired as the Arson Investigator for the City of Hutchinson and as a First Sergeant in the Army. Melvin enjoyed cooking, watching sporting events and old western movies, and spending time with family. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and the VFW post 1361 both of Hutchinson.

On December 23, 1978, he married the love of his life, Melva Jane Smith, in Hutchinson. They shared 44 years of marriage, before her death on November 23, 2022. After both Melvin and Melva retired, they gave up their hobbies and just spent quality time with each other, which was all they needed.

Melvin is survived by: sons, Melvin L. Tipton, III (Amy Scott) of Wichita and Kevin D. Tipton of Hutchinson; siblings, Mary Alice Jackson (Albert), Michael W. He was born September 1, 1944, in Washington, D.C. to Melvin Everett Leroy and Faye (Perryman) Tipton, Sr.Melvin served in the military, where he made a career of defending our nation and mentoring the soldiers that he led. He also worked for both the City of Hutchinson and Reno County fire departments throughout his storied career of over 30 years. He retired as the Arson Investigator for the City of Hutchinson and as a First Sergeant in the Army. Melvin enjoyed cooking, watching sporting events and old western movies, and spending time with family. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and the VFW post 1361 both of Hutchinson.On December 23, 1978, he married the love of his life, Melva Jane Smith, in Hutchinson. They shared 44 years of marriage, before her death on November 23, 2022. After both Melvin and Melva retired, they gave up their hobbies and just spent quality time with each other, which was all they needed.Melvin is survived by: sons, Melvin L. Tipton, III (Amy Scott) of Wichita and Kevin D. Tipton of Hutchinson; siblings, Mary Alice Jackson (Albert), Michael W. Kenneth Walter Franz, 84, of Newton, Kansas, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, at Paramount Community Living and Rehab.

He was born on April 16, 1940, in Newton, Kansas, to Walter and Olga Franz. On June 4, 1961, he married Loretta Sue Eck at First Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas.

Kenneth graduated from Newton High School in 1958, and Bethel College in North Newton, in 1963. He played basketball and track at both Newton High and Bethel College. He continued his education obtaining his Master’s Degree from Emporia State University in 1973. His first teaching job was at Belle Plaine High School where he taught Industrial Arts and coached basketball for three years. He then returned to Newton High to teach Industrial Arts for 28 years. He was the assistant basketball coach at Newton for six years before being named the head basketball coach for three years. He was also the assistant athletic director for 12 years.

Upon retiring from teaching, Ken worked 11 years at B&amp;B Lumber as well as Graber Ace Hardware for two years. He was the energy manager with USD 373 for three years and a Marshal at Sand Creek Station golf course since it opened in 2006. Whether serving on the NHS Athletic Hall of Fame committee and building the trophy case, volunteering at the hospital, witching wells, or just being of service to his neighbors and the community, his eagerness to serve others was evident. Ken was an avid woodworker and his creations were enjoyed by many, especially the 43 bluebird houses on Sand Creek Station Golf Course, baby cradles that he built for his grandchildren and much more. One of his many enjoyments was playing golf with his sons, grandkids and friends, as well as fishing. Family was very important to Ken and whenever possible he attended the many events of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by: son Kent of Chandler, Oklahoma; granddaughter Shelbey and husband Bart Estes of Yukon, Oklahoma, and great granddaughter, Ryan; granddaughter Blakeley and husband Randon Gregory of Ada, Oklahoma, great granddaughter Sila; son Jay and wife Monica of Wichita, Kansas, granddaughter Cecilia and husband, Jordan Friedel of Wichita, Kansas, great grandsons Grayson, Danny, and Brooks; granddaughter Olivia and husband, Carlos Burbach of Wichita, Kansas, great grandsons Beckham, Santiago and Fredrick; grandson Keelan and wife Megan of Wichita, Kansas.

Preceding him in death is his wife Loretta, mother and father Walter and Olga Franz, and sister Bette Rhine.&nbsp;

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. July 6, 2024 at Petersen Family Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.&nbsp;

Frank Gerard Vieyra Jr, was born December 24, 1958, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Frank and Aquilina Vieyra. He passed away June 19, 2024, aged 65, surrounded by family.

Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank Sr., sister, Victoria Espinoza, and nephew, Aramando Espinoza.

He is survived by his mother, Aquilina Vieyra, his companion Sandy Martinez of nearly 32 years, his daughter, Mariah Vieyra, sisters, Sandra Anzo, Julita Raya, Belinda Grimes, brothers, Ernest Vieyra, Andrew Vieyra, granddaughter, Keeley Hill, and several nieces and nephews.

Frank Vieyra Jr was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson. He was, naturally, a huge Chiefs fan, and KU Jayhawk fan. Frank served proudly in the United State Marine Corp for 4 years and was a lifetime member of Hutchinson VFW Post 1361. He loved to go fishing and watch NASCAR with his brothers. Frank was a wonderful caretaker to his mother, as he was naturally caring, and loved his family.

A funeral service and mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in South Hutchinson, Friday July 26th, 2024, 9:30 Rosary, 10:00 mass with interment to follow at Eastside Cemetery.

Thomas F Blanton, 71, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 23rd, 2024, at home with his wife, daughter and granddaughter at his side. Thomas was the first of seven children, born October 13, 1952, in Healdton, Oklahoma to Jimmie and Treeta (Cole) Blanton. On December 21, 1979, Tom married the love of his life, Kathi Ingalls. Family was very important to Tom, attending every Cole family reunion. Tom enjoyed working in his yard, his garage and maintaining his truck. He loved playing games on his iPad and spending time with his grandchildren. Tom worked at Midwest Iron &amp; Metal for 27 years combined.

Tom is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brothers, Danny Ray, Jarron, Calvin and David Blanton, as well as a daughter, Lynna Jeane Corley-Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Kathi, sisters Judy (Richard) Yingling, Treeveala (Ralph Reed) Blanton, daughter Teresa (James) Dean, granddaughters, Tori (Josh) Main, Haeleigh, and Camiel Hilyard, grandson, Caspian Kessler, and 10 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, as Tom loved his rescues, Bobby, Barker, Ana and Daisy.

Surrounded by his loving family, Calvin (Cal) Unruh, 82,&nbsp; passed away at Pine Village, Moundridge, Kansas, on June 25, 2024.&nbsp; Cal was born on June 22, 1942, at Bethesda Hospital in Goessel, Kansas to Raymond and Stella (Reimer) Unruh.

Cal grew up in rural Galva, Kansas and attended South Union and Sunflower Grade Schools. Cal was the oldest of four children and enjoyed paving the way for the other siblings—sometimes pushing the rules a bit. He attended Moundridge High School where he met the love of his life, Marlene Stucky. Together they enjoyed high school activities, various singing groups, prom and dances at Teen Town.&nbsp; Later they were united in marriage on July 14, 1962, at Eden Mennonite Church and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Upon confession of faith, Cal was baptized in 1958 at West Zion Mennonite Church in Moundridge, Kansas and later in life became a member of McPherson Mennonite Church, McPherson, Kansas. He received a Bachelor of Science degree at McPherson College where he also played football.

In 1971, another lady entered the Unruh family when daughter Kristal was born. Kristal and her husband, Shane Boswell, were very attentive and helpful as Cal’s health declined in recent months.

Cal had some interesting jobs in his lifetime. He was a purchasing agent at Hesston Corporation, worked at the Parks and Recreation departments in Hutchinson, Kansas and Yuma, Arizona (where he was also a local TV weather forecaster celebrity). He was also an Over The Road trucker for various companies and at one time owned his own trucking equipment and worked as an independent driver.

Everyone who met Cal knew he had a passion for NASCAR racing and motorcycles. Cal liked speed and was thrilled to have the opportunity to do solo laps in a NASCAR race car at the Kansas Speedway Racing Experience. Cal was a “Harley Man” and owned several Harley Davidson motorcycles. He even joked that he would have a specially designed coffin in the shape of a Harley. While he had many motorcycle friends, Cal particularly enjoyed discussing all things motorcycle and riding with his special friend, Stan Stucky. Cal was able to convince Marlene to ride with him on several trips, with the most memorable to Sturgis, South Dakota. Cal and his brother, Wayne, started basketball officiating at Sunflower Grade School and while Wayne continued his officiating career, Cal opted to be an avid sports fan who did not very often miss a televised Kansas Jayhawks basketball game.&nbsp; Another sports highlight for Cal was playing doubles tennis with professional Rosemary Casals who was known as a tennis rebel—a perfect fit for Cal.

Cal leaves many special friends with whom he and Marlene enjoyed ski trips in Colorado and additional travels to Cancun and the Caribbean. He had a caring spirit for other people and was a mentor to a young man at First Mennonite Church.&nbsp; Cal was kind-hearted, mischievous, and loved to tell a good joke even though he got eye-rolling looks from Marlene.

Cal was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne Unruh; parents-in-law John and Cora Stucky, sisters-in-law Vera Thiesen, Pat Stucky and Betty Stucky; brothers-in-law Merlin Thiesen, and Howard Kaufman; Niece Kimberly Kaufman.

Mourning Cal’s departure are his wife, Marlene; daughter and husband, Kristal Unruh and Shane Boswell of McPherson, Kansas; sisters Maggie (Gary) Davenport of Leawood, Kansas and Debra (Terry) Schmidt of Lawrence, Kansas; and special canine companions, Stormy and Vinny.&nbsp; Survivors also include sisters-in-law Helen Unruh, Neva Kaufman and Judy (Roger) Krehbiel; and brothers-in-law Wayne (Sharon) Stucky, Ken Stucky and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Rose Egger, a beloved member of the Ellis and Hays communities, passed away on June 24, 2024, at HaysMed in Hays. She was born on August 21, 1941, in Ellis, Kansas, to Alois and Evelyn, (Schmeidler) Rupp, where she grew up and cultivated lifelong connections and friendships.

Rose married James O’Rourke on October 17, 1959. They had two sons, Kevin and Sean.&nbsp; After James’s passing, she later met and married Douglas Egger on November 29, 1997. Her blended family was a source of happines for her as it allowed her to embrace the roles of grandmother and great grandmother. She derived joy from supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities.

She had an infectious laugh and found joy in celebrating birthdays with her chocolate sheet cakes, her time at home with family, and her weekly trips to the beauty shop.

Rose had a passion for gardening and flowers and appreciation for the outdoors and was blessed with the best neighbors.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: James O'Rourke and Douglas Egger, siblings: Helen Richardson, Alois Rupp, Norman Rupp, Anton Rupp, John J. Rupp, and sons: Sean and Kevin.

She is survived by stepdaughters; Renee Rupp (Dave) of Hays, Kansas, Raimy Hester (Keith) of Hutchinson, Kansas; brothers Clarence Rupp of Ellis, Kansas, James Rupp (Henrietta) of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 1, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church - Ellis.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow the services in the church cemetery.&nbsp;Memorial visitation will be Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM with a combined rosary and parish vigil service at 7 PM at the church.

Joan K. (Folsom) TenBarge 88, died June 24, 2024, at NMC Health in Newton, Kansas. She was born February 15, 1936, in Great Bend, Kansas to George and Frances (Plotner) Folsom. On February 5, 1955, she married George Kleck and he preceded her in death. She later married LeRoy TenBarge on June 5, 1999 and he also preceded her in death.

During her high school years, she was a 3-year varsity cheerleader, Outstanding Senior Girl, attended Girls State and a member of the National Honor Society.

Her professional career consisted of being a telephone operator, an Administrative Assistant at Kansas Power and Light, working in Human Resources at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, and a receptionist/scheduler at St. Joseph Clinic. She was also a distributor for School Book Fairs.&nbsp;

Her faith and family were top priorities in her life. She was very involved in her children’s activities, which included attending sports and school activities, was a member of PTO, acted as a boy and girl scout leader and was a Sunday School teacher. She was musically talented, playing the piano and organ, autoharp, and harmonica. She sang in numerous choirs and played in a bluegrass band. Joan was a longtime active member of the Eastside United Methodist Church in Newton where she played the organ for many years. In her later years, she loved spending time with the “West Side Ladies” at Kansas Christian Home.

She is survived by son Rick (Cindy) Kleck and step son Matthew TenBarge; daughters Cheryl (Lonny) Rains; Cindy (Keith) Swonger; step daughters Karen Houseberg and Diane (Joey) Char; 2 sisters-in-law Shirley Folsom and Judy Folsom. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents and both husbands; grandson Jason Martin; brothers Wayne and Kenneth Folsom

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Eastside United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor Steve Hysom presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Petersen Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Vicki Ruth (Baker) McClure, 80, of Hutchinson, died June 20, 2024, at Hospice House, with her loving husband and daughters by her side. She was born March 13, 1944, in El Dorado, KS, to Marion E. and Lola R. (O’Brien) Baker of Towanda.

Vicki graduated from Towanda High School in 1962 and from Pittsburg State University in 1966. She began her teaching career, which spanned over 30 years, in Wichita before moving to Hutchinson and teaching 3rd grade in Nickerson/South Hutchinson USD 309 for over 20 years. After retirement Vicki and her husband, Mike, enjoyed lots of traveling. She also volunteered at Hospice House for 16 years. Vicki was an avid reader and Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, listening to music of all kinds, but especially singing the old hymns, and reading her Bible. Always full of laughter, Vicki loved to spend time with her family and friends.

On June 11, 1966, Vicki married Michael S. McClure, in Towanda. They shared 58 years of marriage. He survives.

Also surviving are: her daughters, Heather McClure of Hutchinson, Angela McClure of Wichita; siblings, Nita Freeman of Norman, OK, Polly Bullard (Ralph) of Wichita, Steven Baker (Brandi) of Augusta, Scott Baker (Stef) of Broken Arrow, OK, and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Larry Baker; brother-in-law, G.W. Freeman; and Mike’s parents, Chet and Eileen McClure.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday July 13, 2024, at Elliott Chapel. The service will be livestreamed and the link to view it will be active at 1:45 the day of the service.

Gregory Giles Tompkins, 77, of Newton, passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2024.

Greg was born to Dr Carl and Mrs. Violet (VanBrocklin) Tompkins on November 7, 1946. He attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton High School in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Sheets September 25, 1966, she survives of the home.&nbsp;

He graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Music Education in 1969. He taught instrumental music for several years at Valley Center schools for 5 years before working at Dickey-Davidson Music in Newton with local students and teachers. He returned to teaching for Remington School District in Whitewater and Potwin where he taught for 28 years before he retired in 2008. Not one to stay retired long or away from music education, he went to work for Senseney Music, going out and calling on school band directors just as he had done for Davidson music. Being a music educator and helping a student develop their talents or just gain a greater appreciation for music was what he enjoyed the most. Greg taught and inspired so many students over the years not only with his love of music, but also inspired them to always continue learning more to expand their knowledge and get better at what they do.&nbsp;

In retirement Greg had more time for building a greenhouse and growing orchids with his wife Susan. He also had more time for his woodworking, and began perfecting his interest in wood turning, specifically segmented wood designs. He created many bowls, vases and urns for family and friends and several special awards for Orchid shows. Some of his projects took hundreds of hours and are comprised of thousands of small pieces of different colored unique woods. He was a member and past president of the South Central Kansas Wood Turners and also member and past president of Kansas Orchid Society. He also enjoyed gardening, and caring for their many horses, his dog and cats over the years. He was talented and creative but humble.

Greg is survived by his wife Susan Tompkins; daughter Francesca (Robert) Hoch of Newton; sisters Carolyn Hunter (Jim) of Scott City, Christa Taylor of Topeka; sister-in-law Barbara Ready of Osawatomie; granddaughters Sarah Gronau (Becky Prouty) and Becky (Everett) Sauerwein all of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Morris Taylor and Mark Ready.&nbsp;

A private family graveside service will be held at a future date in Sedgwick Highland Cemetery.&nbsp;

Gladys Fern (Unruh) Schmidt, 88, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Moundridge Manor. She was born on November 25, 1935 to Murphy and Susie (Koehn) Unruh at their home near Galva, Kansas.

She was a member of the Gospel Mennonite Church of Moundridge.

Gladys was united in marriage to Don Schmidt on December 29, 2013. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2018.

She worked as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital for 47 years.

She is survived by her sister, Gloria (Leeland) Koehn of Homeworth, OH; three brothers, Rodney (Doris) Unruh of Grafton, ND, Lewellyn (Glenda) Unruh of Galva, KS, and Linford (Deanna) Unruh of Grafton, ND; sister-in-law, Nola Unruh of Galva, KS; four stepchildren; and many step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Sadie Unruh; husband; and brother, Sydney Unruh.

Bernice (Berry) Hanson of Newton, KS passed away June 14th, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born December 8, 1932, in Zenda, KS, and at the age of 10 months, was adopted by Ann (Harrison) &amp; Ernest Berry of Newton, KS. Bernice attended and completed Newton grade school and high school, and continued her education with two years at Baker University in Baldwin City, KS and Floral Design School in Denver, CO.&nbsp;

She met Juell “Jay” Hanson while in CO, and they married June 12, 1955 and shared 61 happy and productive years together until his passing in 2016.&nbsp;

Bernice &amp; Jay started their life together in Colorado, where she operated a flower shop out of their home. In May 1963, they moved to Lindsborg, KS, along with first son, Bill. There they owned and operated Hanson Drug Store until retirement in December 1991. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling across the USA in their RV and spending their winters in south Texas. As a child, Bernice was very active in 4H and had a love of horses. During her most productive years, she not only raised three children and kept the books for Hanson Drug Store, she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a Mary Kay representative. She and Jay were most recently members of First United Methodist Church in Newton.&nbsp;

Bernice is survived by sons, William (Barb) Hanson of Wichita, KS, Larry Hanson of Maize, KS; daughter, Kathleen Barker of Cottonwood, AZ; and grandchildren, Brandon and Tatum. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay Hanson; parents Ann &amp; Ernest Berry; and brothers, J. David and Gerald Berry.&nbsp;

Family internment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, KS.&nbsp;

Kelvin James O’Brien, 70, of Myrtle Beach, SC, died June 15, 2024. &nbsp;He was born November 29, 1953, to James O’Brien and Thelma (Cade) O’Brien.

Kelvin is survived by his son, Conroy O’Brien, and niece, Neely Goen. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Conroy O’Brien, a Kansas Highway Patrolman killed in the line of duty in 1978.

Celebration of Life will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Abbyville Community Church, Abbyville, KS. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Abbyville Cemetery. &nbsp;Friends may sign Kelvin’s online guest book that is located in his obituary on the Elliott Mortuary website. &nbsp;Cremation has taken place.

Mark Lane Brazeal, 61, left this world on February 20, 2024. &nbsp;He was born on October 7, 1962 in Kansas City, MO. &nbsp;Mark was adopted at birth by Maynard and Mary Lou Brazeal and was later joined by a sister, also adopted, to complete his family. &nbsp;They moved to Kansas in 1968, living south of Hutchinson, KS, on the old naval air base.

Mark attended school in Haven, KS, where he graduated from Haven High School in 1981. After a brief time in the Army and a short stop in Bartlesville, Mark moved to Cheney, KS, where he cooked at the local Dry Dock Restaurant until 1992. &nbsp;At that time, Mark decided a change of scenery was needed and headed for Colorado. After starting in Cripple Creek, he moved to the Colorado Springs area, landing in Manitou Springs. &nbsp;Mark continued cooking, spending many years at the Ritz, where his Sunday brunch was voted “Best in Colorado Springs”. &nbsp;He also cooked for many community events throughout the area during his time at the Ritz. &nbsp;In 2008, in search of something new, Mark and a couple of longtime friends, began what would be his final work endeavor, creating and making specialized candies and other treats sold in many specialty shops across Colorado.

After moving to Colorado, Mark became an avid biker, daily spending the majority of his free time riding his mountain bike through the Garden of the Gods, up Barr Trail on Pike’s Peak, and any other trail he could find to immerse himself in Colorado’s beauty. &nbsp;He rode the Copper Triangle multiple times, as well as several other bike journeys. &nbsp;Mark loved remote camping and would go off grid any chance he could. &nbsp;Although he was a bit of a loner, he was fiercely loyal to his family and those he let in to his close inner circle. &nbsp;Mark walked this earth with a rare kindness and gentle, caring spirit. &nbsp;He will be missed beyond words.

Mark was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents, Maynard and Mary Lou Brazeal. &nbsp;He is survived by: &nbsp;his sister, Marcy (Ron) Lang of Newton, KS; nephew, Jared Burt; nieces, Jessica (Adam) Brown and Mariah Agoitia; great-nieces and great-nephews; and other extended family. &nbsp;He is also survived by his best friend Kelly Curtin and her family, along with many others whose lives he touched.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Inspire Church, 4290 N. Monroe, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Inspire Church.

Larry Dean Hudson, 77, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. Larry was born on September 17, 1946, in Eureka, KS, the son of Oscar and Evelyn (Walford) Hudson. &nbsp;

In 1965, Larry graduated from Eureka High School. He worked for Eaton Corporation for 41 years as an assembly tester. In 1965, he married Jennie Wood. They later divorced. On July 6, 1999, he married Cynthia Vick. Larry spent his free time gardening and growing a variety of flowers. He also enjoyed spending time fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Hudson; a son, Edward Hudson; and a brother, Derald Hudson. Larry is survived by his mother, Evelyn Hudson; a son, James (Pam) Hudson; two daughters, Catherine (Mike) Turnbull and Julie Hudson; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Greenwood Cemetery, 1407 E. 7 th St., Eureka, KS. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel &amp;amp; Crematory, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS &nbsp;67502. &nbsp;Memorials may be given to the Hospice House and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.

John “Skipper” Campbell, 77, of Nickerson, died June 19, 2024, at his residence. He was born October 19, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to Ira William and Eunice Kathleen (Pitts) Campbell.

John graduated from El Cajon Valley High School in 1964. He later received his Master of Fine Arts. John owned and operated his own contracting firm. He enjoyed woodworking, surfing, fishing, and traveling across America. Rosita Beach, Mexico, held a special place in his heart.&nbsp;

On November 7, 2000, he married Patricia S. Schneider, in San Diego, Cal. They shared over 23 years of marriage.

John is survived by: wife, Patricia Campbell of Nickerson; son, John Paul Campbell of San Diego, CA; 4 grandchildren; stepchildren, Melissa (Jim Kelso) Collins of Holden, MO, Benjamin (Miranda) Brandt of Paola, KS, Amy (Jack) Brandt of Osawatomie, KS; brothers, Brad Campbell of Pine Valley, CA, Mickey Campbell of Monmouth, OR, and Rob Roy Campbell of San Diego, CA.

Andrew Ray “Andy” Schuessler, 47, passed away June 19, 2024, surrounded by family after a short illness. He was born May 21, 1977, in Hutchinson, KS.

Andy lived his entire life in Hutchinson, graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1996, and working various jobs throughout his adult years, most recently at Container Craft.

Survivors include his mother, Connie Hatch (Dennis), Burlington, KS; his father, Steven Schuessler (Joann), Hutchinson, daughters Alyssa Schuessler, Wichita, and Jenna Schuessler, Merino Valley, California; sisters Erin Schuessler, Overland Park, and Emily Willard, Wichita; niece Avery Binger, Wichita; companion Tiffni Huckaby, Hutchinson; and numerous relatives and friends.

Andy was a friend to all, kind, caring, funny, generous, and a loveable sweet soul. His family and friends will miss him as they navigate a world without his presence.

A graveside service is planned for early August. Time and place will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter.

Eula Marie Henderson, 96, died June 21, 2024, at Sandstone Heights, Little River. &nbsp;She was born February 17, 1928, in Bronson, KS, to Floyd Arthur and Alice May (Bowles) Thomas.

Eula, along with her husband, Orville, founded Eula’s Draperies, in 1965. &nbsp;For over 50 years, Eula worked with hundreds of customers on their window treatments. &nbsp;She had a true gift for listening to her clients, ensuring their custom-made draperies were just what they had envisioned. In addition, Eula was active in the Arlington Community, serving on the City Council and as Mayor of Arlington during their 125th anniversary. &nbsp;She had numerous hobbies and interests from playing cards and going to casinos to dancing, traveling, and listening to country music and enjoying the NJCAA basketball tournament each March in Hutchinson. &nbsp;Eula was a member of the Arlington United Methodist Church, Arlington, KS.

On June 10, 1946, she married Orville Dayton Henderson, in Bronson, KS. He died October 18, 1991, after they shared over 45 years of marriage.&nbsp;

Eula is survived by: &nbsp;son, Dale Henderson (Debby) of Hutchinson; daughter, Melinda Klein (Kendel) of Mount Vernon, MO; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Darrell Henderson; brother, Harvey Thomas; and sisters, Helen Wilson and Wanda Fouts; and granddaughter, Lelagi Klein,
