Lawrence Robert Steele, 80, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on March 29th, 2024 in Colorado Springs. &nbsp;

He was born on February 1st, 1944 to Mary Agnes and Robert Vernon Steele in Salina Kansas. Larry went to high school at Hutchinson High School. He went on to Hutchinson Junior College, and then Kansas State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

He worked as an Electrical Engineer for 45 years, beginning in the aviation industry with Beech Aircraft and Learjet in Wichita and finishing in the space industry at Allied Signal on Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs. He worked on numerous projects over the years. Some noteworthy projects include in-cabin instrumentation for John Denver’s Custom Learjet, extensive work in the Arctic Circle for national defense, and the establishment of what is now Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado. 

Larry enjoyed numerous hobbies, including amateur radio and motorsports.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sandy, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sons Matt and Jason (Chicago); and his grandchildren Felicia, Cassidy, Cohen, Anders, and Sullivan. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Steele of Olympia, Washington.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carolyn Ann Anschutz, 80, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS.&nbsp; Carolyn was born April 7, 1944, in Great Bend, KS, the daughter of Lowell and Florence (Schrepal) Gaunt.&nbsp; On August 5, 1966, she married Wayne A. Anschutz in Great Bend, KS, to this union they were blessed with two children, Joy and Loren.

Carolyn graduated from Great Bend High School in 1962 and attended Hutchinson Community College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in teaching from Emporia State University Teachers College.&nbsp; Carolyn was a 3rd grade teacher for Little River Grade School and was a substitute teacher for many school districts in Reno County.&nbsp; Carolyn was much loved by family and friends.&nbsp; She loved watching and spending time with her grandchildren.&nbsp; She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where she enjoyed church activities and helping in the church nursery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Florence, and her husband, Wayne.

Carolyn is survived by her two children, Joy (Rick) Skinner and Loren (Michelle) Anschutz all of Hutchinson; brothers, David (Paul) Gaunt, Terry (Glenda) Gaunt, and Steven (Glenna) Gaunt all of Great Bend; sister, Sue Ellen (Jack) Lee of Meeker, OK; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jake) Murray, Brenna Skinner, Dustin Anschutz, and Alexis Skinner; three great grandchildren, Sophia, Abigail, and Benjamin Murray; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna Mae Janda, 88, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024, at her home in Hutchinson, KS. 

Anna Mae was born on August 26, 1935, in Dorrance, KS, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Kepka) Ptacek. On January 3, 1956, she married Edward F. Janda in Wilson, KS. They were married for 56 years before his passing in 2012. 

Anna Mae Graduated from Dorrance High School in 1953 and attended St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, KS. She enjoyed spending her time outdoors, where she gardened, fished and went camping. She also enjoyed quilting and playing bingo. She attended St. Paul Catholic Church in Lyons, KS. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna; her husband, Ed; a son, Joe Janda; a son-in-law, Gary Campbell; and several siblings. Anna Mae is survived by her six children, Timothy (Stacy) Janda, Donald (Sandy) Janda, David (Sherry) Janda, Marie Campbell, Brenda (Stacey) Janda and Frank (Becca) Janda; 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. Anna Mae Janda |1935-2024|

Malcolm D. ‘Mal’ Kleiber, 86, of Hutchinson, died May 3, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born March 19, 1938, in Hutchinson, to Lloyd and Eleanora (Blasiar) Kleiber.

Mal went to St. Teresa's grade school and high school, graduating in 1956. He played football, basketball, and baseball in school. Malcolm served in the Army National Guard for three years.

On January 3, 1958, he married Irene Ruby Roberts in Hutchinson. They shared over 66 years of marriage before his passing. They had three daughters together: Lila, Karen, and Kelley.

He worked at Coca-Cola and Winchester Packing Company and spent 35 years at Sonoco, eventually retiring in 2000. He helped out in his father’s business for many years, cleaning windows and performing floor maintenance throughout Hutchinson.

Mal enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and going to all the grandkids sporting events. His favorite memories were made while traveling throughout the country in his motorhome with his wife and family. He would sit on the front porch swing, telling stories and teaching the Bible to all the grandkids and great-grandkids. Mal always had well-trained dogs to spoil and take on rides through the park. He was a very generous and patient family man, always lending a helping hand to anyone.

He was a member of Inspire Church in Hutchinson.

Mal is survived by: wife, Irene Kleiber of Hutchinson; daughter, Karen (Kelly) McLean of Nickerson; grandchildren, Joshua (Sarah) McMillan, Kandi (Ryan) Gregg, Kolton McLean, Kyla (Julio) McLean, and Kaleb (Lacey) McLean, all of Hutchinson; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughters, Lila Kleiber and Kelley Bergen, and brother, Gary Kleiber.

The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with Pastor Kent Pedersen officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 6 through Monday, May 13.

Elizabeth Marie “Betty” Vogts, 84, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Schowalter Villa. She was born on March 19, 1940 in McPherson County, Kansas, to Alpha and Eva (Unruh) Wedel.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Canton, Kansas.

Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Vogts on December 22, 1979 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Moundridge.

She owned and operated the Beehive Café in Moundridge for several years. Betty also worked in the Moundridge school system as a cook.

Betty is survived by her husband, Kenneth Vogts of Moundridge; brother, Pete (Illa) Wedel of Galva; sister, Dorothy Wedel (Paul Sanford) of Newton; eight nieces and nephews, Dale, Susan, Diane, Debra, James, Chad, Sheila, and Karla; sister-in-law, Geneva Wedel; and several great-nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Norma Wedel and Virginia (Donald) Koehn; brother, Darold Wedel; and nephew, Jeffrey Koehn.

Matthew Wayne Poschen, 40, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024. He was born on November 4, 1983 in Pratt to Kenneth Ray and Shirley Jean (DeRome) Poschen.

Matthew attended Pratt High School and completed 3 years at Pitt State. He attended Church of Christ as a child. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and being outdoors.

He is survived by his daughter, Chloe Conn and sister, Ginny Poschen of Byers.

Matthew is preceded in death by his parents and half-brother, Marty Furey.

Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at Iuka Cemetery, Iuka.

Matthew Wayne Poschen |1983-2024|

Our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Vada (Smith) Ensz was born to Dan and Katie (Nightingale) Smith on December 12, 1926, at Fairview, Oklahoma. She passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas.

Mom was the seventh of eleven children and often spoke fondly of her growing up years with her siblings in the big white house east of Fairview. She met the Lord at age thirteen and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by minister Edd Frank on December 3, 1939, at Fairview, Oklahoma. She received her education at a rural country school near Fairview.

Helping people was meaningful to Mom, and she spent many years working as a CNA at Goessel, Moundridge and Pleasant View Home. Our Mom was married to our dad, Menno R Ensz, on June 12, 1960, at Fairview, Oklahoma by her father, Dan H. Smith. They resided on the family farm west of Inman, Kansas and raised six children there. Dad and Mom enjoyed 27 happy years together before Dad passed away very unexpectedly on October 4, 1987, leaving all of us, especially Mom, very lonely. Mom’s faith in God was evident as she bravely carried on. In the fall of 1999, Mom bought a house in Inman and moved off the farm. Mom missed the farm but loved it when the family would gather at her place or when she would travel to see them.

Approximately four years ago, Mom moved to the assisted living apartments at Pleasant View Home. The care she received was greatly appreciated. Her hands were never idle. She spent many hours making quilts and embroidering tea towels for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, also faithfully remembering our birthdays with cards and money. Our hearts are overjoyed with the thought of Mom being reunited with Dad on yonder shore.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Bonnie (Jason) Yost, Ward, South Dakota, Janalea (David) Becker, Canton, Kansas, Michael (Lois) Ensz, Inman, Kansas, Marlys (Kendall) Martens, Inman, Kansas, Kristine (Kerry) Boeckner, Harrisburg, Arkansas, Roderick (Raschel) Ensz, Macon, Mississippi; twenty-one grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan Junior Smith; one sister, Geneva Smith; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Ensz. Preceding her in death are her husband, four sisters, and four brothers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Inman, KS.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Sunday, May 5, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Zion Church Cemetery.

 </figure>Our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Vada (Smith) Ensz was born to Dan and Katie (Nightingale) Smith on December 12, 1926, at Fairview, Oklahoma. She passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas.Mom was the seventh of eleven children and often spoke fondly of her growing up years with her siblings in the big white house east of Fairview. She met the Lord at age thirteen and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by minister Edd Frank on December 3, 1939, at Fairview, Oklahoma. She received her education at a rural country school near Fairview.Helping people was meaningful to Mom, and she spent many years working as a CNA at Goessel, Moundridge and Pleasant View Home. Our Mom was married to our dad, Menno R Ensz, on June 12, 1960, at Fairview, Oklahoma by her father, Dan H. Smith. They resided on the family farm west of Inman, Kansas and raised six children there. Dad and Mom enjoyed 27 happy years together before Dad passed away very unexpectedly on October 4, 1987, leaving all of us, especially Mom, very lonely. Mom’s faith in God was evident as she bravely carried on. In the fall of 1999, Mom bought a house in Inman and moved off the farm. Mom missed the farm but loved it when the family would gather at her place or when she would travel to see them.Approximately four years ago, Mom moved to the assisted living apartments at Pleasant View Home. The care she received was greatly appreciated. Her hands were never idle. She spent many hours making quilts and embroidering tea towels for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, also faithfully remembering our birthdays with cards and money. Our hearts are overjoyed with the thought of Mom being reunited with Dad on yonder shore.Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Bonnie (Jason) Yost, Ward, South Dakota, Janalea (David) Becker, Canton, Kansas, Michael (Lois) Ensz, Inman, Kansas, Marlys (Kendall) Martens, Inman, Kansas, Kristine (Kerry) Boeckner, Harrisburg, Arkansas, Roderick (Raschel) Ensz, Macon, Mississippi; twenty-one grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan Junior Smith; one sister, Geneva Smith; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Ensz. Walter D. Kilpatrick, 62, died April 28, 2024, in Hutchinson. He was born May 15, 1961, in Hutchinson, to Walter W. and Patricia (Zordel) Kilpatrick.

Walter graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1979. He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #441 of Wichita.&nbsp;

Walter is survived by: brothers, Michael Kilpatrick of Hutchinson and John Kilpatrick of Texas; nieces, Megan Burrell, Melissa Hayes, and Michelle Vakulenko; aunts, JoAnn Schussler and Pat Kilpatrick, both of Hutchinson; and uncles, Loren Zordel of Hill City and Bob Zordel of Hays.

He was preceded in death by: his parents and sisters, Lisa Kilpatrick and Deborah Shank.

Cremation has taken place. A service will be held at a later date.

Harold Johnson, 90, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Pine Village. He was born on August 6, 1933 in Goessel, Kansas, to Jesse and Vada (Schafer) Johnson.

He was a member of the Lone Tree Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Galva, Kansas.

Harold was united in marriage to Thelma Nightingale on September 6, 1953. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2015.

He was a lifelong farmer; worked at AGCO in Hesston for many years; and maintained roads in Lone Tree township.

Harold is survived by his sons, Gavin (Donnalee) Johnson of Texhoma, TX, and Steven (Jill) Johnson of Galva; daughters, Beverly (Dave) Unruh of Scott City and Melanie (John) Schmidt of Wellington, CO; one brother, Doyle Johnson of Moundridge; twelve grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Gabriel Johnson; and brothers, Don and Charles Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Lone Tree Mennonite Church, Galva. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Connie loved family and people in general, especially children, and dogs. She loved to travel, visiting 40 U.S. states and 25 foreign countries and islands. Constance Joan Carman, age 87, of Thousand Oaks, California died at home of Congestive Heart Failure on April 20, 2024 in Hospice care.

She was born in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1936 to Charles Robert and Mildred Welty, who were very loving farm people. She was surrounded with three generations of Weltys locally and many more relatives within Kansas. As a young girl she was a tomboy, but outgrew this trait. When her bother, Steven Robert Welty came along in 1945, a lifelong close bond was formed that was very dependable until his death in November 2020. His death had a very strong and lasting impact on Connie and her will to live. Her love of animals came from her farm experiences. Connie attended High School in Nickerson, Kansas from 1950-1954 before studying Elementary School Education at Fort Hays State College in Kansas, graduating in 1958. She became a public-school teacher in 1958, teaching in Prosperity Grade School in Hutchinson, Kansas. She moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico in the early 1960s and did teaching there as well. She loved Los Alamos and developed many long-term friendships there. She also looked forward to driving back to Kansas to see her family.

While previously married Connie met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Carman in 1974 at a Parents-without-Partners (PWP) meeting in Los Alamos, in which Connie was the president. Quickly Connie and Bob bonded, becoming soul mates in which they could sit quietly next to each other and without speaking and know what the other was thinking. They were married in the United Methodist Church in Los Alamos on May 2, 1975. &nbsp;She died just two weeks short of 49 years. They lived the beginning of their marriage in White, Rock, NM until April 1984 when they moved to Thousand Oaks, CA. Connie loved living in California and in the specific house we had, as long as she could visit her family in Kansas.

Connie and Bob both had daughters from a previous marriage. &nbsp;Connie’s daughter was Jennifer Lynn Bivins Gillespie, 1964, and she lived with Connie and Bob until she went to college in 1982. &nbsp;Connie and Jennifer enjoyed clothes shopping and going out for lunch where Connie typically ordered lox and bagels as often as she could. &nbsp;Connie and Jennifer also enjoyed grocery shopping and cooking meals together. &nbsp;They attended church together at the United Methodist Church in Los Alamos. &nbsp;Connie loved to sew and even made Jennifer a pink ice-skating dress which Jennifer loved to wear to the skating rink. &nbsp;They made many trips to the farm in Hutchinson, Kansas and loved the time they spent with their family there.

Bob’s daughter, Yvonne Norris Carman Novak, 1968, lived with her mother during the school years and with Connie and Bob during the summers. Both girls traveled with them on summer trips. Yvonne and Connie had lots of belly laughs over the years whether it was going shopping which was one of their favorite things to do. They always said when the going gets tough the tough go shopping. Cuddles, our dog, came into our lives in 1978 and she loved going everywhere, including shopping. Connie and Yvonne enjoyed doing ceramics and Yvonne helped with Connie’s cosmetic business.

Connie’s love of children certainly extended to her grandchildren. Jennifer had three children, Kyle Alan Olcott (1990), and Krista Lynn Levin (1992) as well as Jack Bivins Gillespie (2002). Connie always wanted to be with her grandkids, but they lived a long ways away, so time together was limited. Fortunately, Jennifer and her three children visited us the end of February, so Connie got to enjoy being with them again.

Connie’s face and heart would light up whenever she was around a dog. Connie’s love of animals from farm days translated into owning non-allergenic dogs – usually poodles due to her asthma. When Bob first met Connie, she had two poodles, Lulu and Doris. Once they passed, about 1978, a cockapoo named Cuddles came along. Cuddles was truly like having a little piece of God with you every day. After Cuddles passed in 1998, there were no dogs until 2002 when friends, Debbie Harris and Lars Gustafson, went to Las Vegas with Connie and Bob to buy a dog. &nbsp;Her name is Precious and she lives up to that name. &nbsp;She is a Maltese/Poodle cross, about 7 lbs. of love. &nbsp;She actually is smaller than most cats. While Precious was Bob’s birthday present to Connie, Precious has been care for by Bob and has become Bob’s dog.

Connie had friends everywhere she went. &nbsp;In high school, she had an English pen friend. &nbsp;They continued writing until her English friend died, and they got together several times both here at theit home or in England. &nbsp;Connie was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority when Bob met her and even after the sorority stopped functioning, Connie always maintained contact with the members. &nbsp;To have a relationship with Connie always meant for Life. She used to mail out about 200 Christmas Newsletters each year and they were 8-10 pages long.

Connie and Bob had many parties celebrating friends and family throughout their lives together. There are many stories. One of them was the time Bob wanted to do a surprise party for Connie’s Birthday and did a dinner murder mystery. We told Connie a fib that Glenn Harrington, Yvonne’s first husband and Yvonne couldn’t make her birthday that year. Bob had all 8 guesses dress up to their assigned player description. It took place in the 1900’s. For Connie we put her costume in a trunk and after we yelled surprise we had her open the trunk and put on these clothes. The look of joy and surprise was something Yvonne will always remember. Connie would joke about that for years.&nbsp;

One of the best things Our Immediate family credits Connie for is bringing us closer to God. We went to church like so many do but it was Connie’s way of helping us through so many of life’s difficult moments that grew all of our beliefs. I believe one day we will all be together again and till then as the song goes &nbsp; “will see you again, This is not where it ends I will carry you with me, 'Til I see you again”

Waverly H. “Blackie” Johns, 89, of Hutchinson, died April 30, 2024, at his residence. He was born December 16, 1934, to Ray Johns and Virginia (Vansickle) Johns.

Waverly started high school then enlisted with the United States Army Reserves where he spent eight years. He worked as a carpet layer for 30 years then transitioned to working at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline for 10 years. Waverly was an avid fisher, hunter, and gardener. He also enjoyed dancing and playing pool at the Silver Dollar in Hutchinson. In 1962, he married Dorothy Keffer and they shared 62 wonderful years together.

Waverly is survived by: wife, Dorothy Johns, Hutchinson; son, Brent (Finita) Johns, Wichita; daughters, Susan (Gary) Magby, Hutchinson and Julie (James) Adamek, Jacksonville, Florida; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Marvin Johns; and two brothers.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Dennis Dean Carlson, 68, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Dennis was born on July 7, 1955, in McPherson, KS, the son of Robert Dean and Betty Jean (Becker) Carlson.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1973 and continued his education studying Electrical Engineering at Hutchinson Community College and Mechanical Engineering at Kansas State University.&nbsp; He studied Business and received a Bachelor Degree at Central Christian College of Kansas. On August 12, 1995, Dennis was united in marriage to Sherill Anne (James) Newberry at the First Baptist Church in McPherson.

While working at CertainTeed, he was awarded 11 U.S. patents. Dennis was a former Engineering Manager at Eaton Corporation and Maintenance Manager/Superintendent at Westlake Corporation. He retired from Stryten in Salina as Maintenance Manager. Dennis was also a part owner of a plastic extrusion company in Lamar, MO.

He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church and member of Band of Brothers and Huddle 4 Men. He was a prior member of the Lions Club. Dennis also served on the advisory board of the Salina Area Technical School.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sherill of the home; children, Robert Newberry and Brenda Newberry, both of McPherson, KS, Kelly Carlson-Nicola (Chris) of Coyville, KS, Melissa Newberry of Leavenworth, KS, and Tara Flores (Israel) of Sugar Land, TX; a sister, Diane Rhea (Terry) of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren, Audrey Miller, Sarah Newberry, Brian Patrick, Layne Patrick, Cole Carlson, Madison Stroud, Aiden Allen, Mason Flores, and Liam Flores; one great-grandchild; and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Steven Carlson; daughter, Amy Carlson; and grandson, Caleb Newberry.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, May 6, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 7, at the First Baptist Church with Rev.  </figure>Dennis Dean Carlson, 68, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.Dennis was born on July 7, 1955, in McPherson, KS, the son of Robert Dean and Betty Jean (Becker) Carlson.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1973 and continued his education studying Electrical Engineering at Hutchinson Community College and Mechanical Engineering at Kansas State University.&nbsp; He studied Business and received a Bachelor Degree at Central Christian College of Kansas. On August 12, 1995, Dennis was united in marriage to Sherill Anne (James) Newberry at the First Baptist Church in McPherson.While working at CertainTeed, he was awarded 11 U.S. patents. Dennis was a former Engineering Manager at Eaton Corporation and Maintenance Manager/Superintendent at Westlake Corporation. He retired from Stryten in Salina as Maintenance Manager. Dennis was also a part owner of a plastic extrusion company in Lamar, MO.He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church and member of Band of Brothers and Huddle 4 Men. He was a prior member of the Lions Club. Dennis also served on the advisory board of the Salina Area Technical School.Survivors include his loving wife, Sherill of the home; children, Robert Newberry and Brenda Newberry, both of McPherson, KS, Kelly Carlson-Nicola (Chris) of Coyville, KS, Melissa Newberry of Leavenworth, KS, and Tara Flores (Israel) of Sugar Land, TX; a sister, Diane Rhea (Terry) of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren, Audrey Miller, Sarah Newberry, Brian Patrick, Layne Patrick, Cole Carlson, Madison Stroud, Aiden Allen, Mason Flores, and Liam Flores; one great-grandchild; and numerous extended family members and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Steven Carlson; daughter, Amy Carlson; and grandson, Caleb Newberry.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, May 6, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 7, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck worked for Collins Bus Corporations, and retired after 30 plus years.

Chuck enjoyed woodworking, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was a longtime pool player, a member of APA, a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, with 32 years of sobriety and very proud of it. Chuck was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. &nbsp;

On July 17, 1999, he married Donelle (Petering) Neufeld in Hutchinson. They shared 24 years of marriage.

Chuck is survived by: his wife, Donelle Conner of Hutchinson; children, Robb (Bobbie) Conner of Wichita, Shawn Conner of South Hutchinson, Miranda (Bryan) Ackley of Hutchinson, Meagan Neufeld of Hutchinson; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great- grandchildren.

Rachel Lee Hornbeck, 80, of Hutchinson, died April 29, 2024, at Hospice House. &nbsp;She was born August 4, 1943, in Hutchinson, to Robert Lee and Viola Mae (Banks) Huffman.&nbsp;

Rachel graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962. &nbsp;She worked as a pharmacy technician at both Walmart and Dillons. Rachel was a skilled painter and illustrator, and enjoyed making crafts. She adored being with family and friends. Rachel was recently baptized, professing her faith.&nbsp;

On June 10, 1962, she married Donald “Wayne” Hornbeck, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;They shared almost 62 years of marriage before his death on March 17, 2024.

Rachel is survived by: daughter, April Marie Rock (Steve) of Springfield, GA; sister, Sonja Pirisky of Overland Park; and many dear and beloved nieces and nephews.

Rachel was a good mother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor to so many. She was one in a million and will not be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Wayne.

Andrew "Andy" Ray Griggs, age 76, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on April 27, 2024 at Hospice House. He was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on September 11, 1947, to John Jr. and Joyce (Kennedy) Griggs.&nbsp;

Andy graduated from Nickerson High School, Nickerson, KS in 1966 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve, serving in Adak, Alaska. While attending Hutchinson Junior College, Andy met the love of his life, Rebecca "Becky" Zimmerman, and they were married on August 5, 1972.&nbsp;

Andy worked for 30 years as a Frito-Lay route salesman, retiring in 2008. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid fisherman. A former member of the McPherson Bass Busters and Salt City Bass Masters fishing clubs, Andy and his family spent many weekends on the water at the Hutchinson Water Sports Club, Burrton, KS, and later at Marion County Lake, Marion, KS. In 2021, Andy had the honor of visiting Washington D.C. as part of the Kansas Honor Flight program. Seeing the veteran memorials held significant meaning for him.

Andy is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Becky; daughter Nicolette (Brian) Denney of Maize, KS; son Brett (Jamie) Griggs of Winston-Salem, NC; brothers Bryan Griggs and John III (Stefanie) Griggs; grandsons Austin Denney and Elijah Griggs; and nephew EJ Griggs. He was preceded in death by his parents and several dear friends.

James Boyd Wilcoxen, age 95, passed away April 29, 2024, at Thorne Care Center. Born June 18, 1928, in Hutchinson, to Lee Doyle Wilcoxen and Marceline Louise Huffman, Jim lived his entire life in Hutchinson.

On September 25, 1948, he married Ruth Lilly Miller, his sweetheart of 6 years. Having missed service in WW2, Jim enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve, serving 6 years plus 2 years in the Naval Construction Battalion, known as the "CB's". He rose to the rank of Petty Officer 3rd class with the responsibility of teaching Naval Indoctrination classes for new recruits. &nbsp;

On March 15, 1947, Jim began his professional career as a draftsman in the Engineering Department of Chalmers and Borton, Engineers and Contractors. Under the tutelage of Clint Chalmers he learned and developed structural engineering and mechanical engineering capabilities.

In 1961, Jim co-founded the Continental Engineering Company, specializing in the design of grain facilities, animal feed manufacturing plants, and rice mills. His expertise extended to designing automated glass batching plants, industrial dust control systems, and animal feed lots. In 1963, he also co-founded Kansas Sales &amp; Service to sell mechanical equipment to those industries.&nbsp;

In 1964, Jim moved on, joining the Grain Equipment Manufacturing Company, a subsidiary of Borton Inc., as general manager of engineering and production. Upon GEMCO’s closure he joined Borton Inc. as a sales engineer, only to leave in 1974 to become Executive Vice President of Venturi Inc, an Illinois company. In this capacity he developed their Hutchinson office supervising engineering, shop fabrication, and facility construction.

Approached by a board member in 1976, Jim became Borton Inc’s Vice President and a board member. He served in all facets of the business until 1985 when he became President and CEO of the firm, overseeing the transition of the company from family ownership to employee ownership.

Retiring in 1994, Jim found inactivity boring, and returned to Borton as a construction consultant where he served as a mentor to young people in its engineering department. Finally in 2005 he hung it up for good. From starting as a draftsman to ending as a draftsman, he relished every experience of his career; never bored, always excited, and always learning.&nbsp;

Jim is survived by: his wife Ruth of 75 years of Hutchinson; son Kurt A. (Joyce) of Independence, MO; daughters, Andrea Jan Martin (Raymond) of Ridgefield, CT, and Adele Lea Wilcoxen Evans (Hos) of Overland Park; grandchildren, Kyle Wilcoxen, Dana Wilcoxen, Raymond Paul Martin, James Martin (Maria Claire), Graham Martin; 5 great-grandchildren; and youngest sister, Mary D. Krause of Shreveport, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Marceline, and sister, Jane Lees.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at Wesley Tower Evans Chapel, 3709 Asbury Drive, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.

Marvin William Phipps Jr. (Bill), 71, lifelong resident of Hutchinson, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at home surrounded by loved ones.

Bill was born December 10, 1952, to Marvin and Peggy Phipps, and the second-eldest of 7 siblings. He graduated from Nickerson High in 1970 and attended Hutchinson Community College.

A very proud and supportive father and grandpa. He loved family, always putting them first. He married and had two children, Jason and Yvonne, and later married the love of his life, Rita.

Always willing to help out in any situation, Bill was known as "Mr. Fix-it" at work. He could fix anything, and was a skilled machinist, mechanic, and painter.  In addition to being employed for years at Cessna (later Eaton) And Takako, Bill was the owner of Countryside Auto, a business where he worked alongside his father and brothers to restore automobiles. At home Bill loved to landscape and improve his home, listen to oldies and watch comedies.  He always had a project. He was fastidious with his work, re-doing it until it was just right.  He even managed to keep a green, perfect lawn in the middle of winter.

Bill had a huge sweet tooth for pies, pastries and ice cream, you could always count on him to bring home something sweet from the grocery store.  A home that Bill and Rita built themselves next door to the house he grew up in.  Bill was also a prankster of pranksters, always planning elaborate practical jokes on his siblings and friends. Bill loved to laugh and joke around. He was always up for adventure and trying new things, even building a five-man pyramid while water skiing at Kanopolis lake.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; a half-sister, Cheryl Siaz, and nephew Jeremy Edwards. He was very active in the Abbyville community, serving as a volunteer firefighter for Abbyville and participating in the Abbyville Rodeo Booster Club and 4-H Club. Ron enjoyed being a part of Gideons International and collecting model tractors.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Ron was a member of Plevna Community Bible Church, Plevna.

On April 19, 1980, he married Roxanne Lennard in Plevna. They shared almost 40 years of marriage before her death on April 6, 2020.

Ron is survived by his: son, Ryan (Tia) Johnson of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Mac, Calla, and Carmen, all of Omaha; brothers, Ray Johnson of Plevna and Darrell (Paula) Johnson of Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law, Rod (Sandra) Lennard of Bella Vista, AR; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; daughter-in-law, Jill (Rothfuss) Johnson; and sister-in-law, Beverly Johnson.

The graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Abbyville Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Plevna Community Bible Church, 110 W. 3rd Ave., Plevna, KS 67568. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.

Leslie Wayne Flaming, 77, Goessel, died on April 21, 2024, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Goessel.

Les was born on July 2, 1946. He was the son of Jacob J. and Esther Flaming. He attended Goessel schools and one year of Bethel College. He was baptized in Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, where he remained a life-long member.

He married Ann Fehr on July 26, 1968, at Rosthern Mennonite Church in Saskatchewan, Canada. They made their home not far from Goessel and lived there for almost 50 years until they moved to Goessel in 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, daughters Cheryl (Brian) Pyle and Jolene Peoples, and grandchildren Anna-Jo Peoples, Clayton Peoples, Sarah Pyle, and Amelia Pyle, as well as his siblings Viola Buller, Lauren Flaming, and Delbert Flaming.

A private funeral, with immediate family, will be held at a later date.

Beverly Ann Stout (nee Melson), aged 74, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, in McPherson, Kansas. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Born on August 14, 1949, in Oklahoma City to Roger Q. Melson and Bernice (Mead) Melson, she grew up in Oklahoma City, later moved to Edmond, OK and in 2013 moved to McPherson, KS. She was a loving wife to her late husband Rodney H. Stout, and a caring mother to her children Amy and Rodney, Jr.

Beverly lived a full life and was always ready for a celebration. She also had a green thumb and loved tending to her flowers. She enjoyed reading books and watching OU sports in her free time, Boomer Sooner! She was devoted to her clients and enjoyed serving them as a successful insurance agent. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and engaging personality.

She is survived by her daughter Amy Wurm (Mark) and son Rodney Stout, Jr. (Melissa), 4 grandchildren Laura Peuchen (Andrew), Katherine Wurm, Mary Ann Wurm, Wesley Wurm and 1 great-grandchild Miles Peuchen; and her brother Roger Melson (Carol) and many nieces and nephews who will miss her fondly.

Virginia M. Rexroad, 99, of Partridge, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Hospice House, about 5:30 PM, due to an ailing heart and worn-out heart.

Virginia had a long and happy life filled with plenty of love and fun with her husband, Jack, daughter, 2 grandsons, 5 great grandkids, and 3 great-great grandkids. She loved them all, dearly, as we loved her.&nbsp;

Virginia had been staying with her grandson, Bret Southards and his wife, Kim, so she could be close to the Rexroad family farm.&nbsp;

Virginia was born on December 24,1924, in Hutchinson, KS, to Philip and Beulah M. (Siegrist) Dade. Shortly after Virginia’s birth her mother passed away from uremic poisoning.&nbsp;

Virginia was raised by her grandmother Ora Molly Siegrist. Virginia had a happy childhood on the Siegrist farm with her grandmother, aunts and two cousins. She did many chores, pulled rye, drove trucks and when older went in early to fix lunch for everyone.

Virginia attended Partridge High School and graduated in 1942. There she met and fell in love with her soulmate, Jack Rexroad. They were married over 76 and half years.

Their baby daughter, Susan was born about 3 years later, Virginia was a very caring, giving and loving wife and mother, always ready to help her husband and daughter any way she could. Virginia was a helpmate to Jack on the family farm, by cooking for him and the help, driving the wheat trucks, pulling rye, going for parts, and mowing the lawns.&nbsp;

Jack and Virginia suffered a severe crop failure in the mid-1950s. So, for two years Virginia was a cook at the Partridge High School, feeding the students, to help sublimate their farm income, she was always there to help.

Every summer, when the family was young, they went to Arkansas to fish with other married couples and family.

Virginia’s main job was to sit on the boats bow and keep the boat a certain distance from the shore, so my Dad, Jack, could hopefully catch the “Big Ones” (bass). My Mom’s second job was to watch over their young daughter and see didn’t get to bored in the boat. I learned later to love fishing.

As Virginia’s family grew from one daughter, to 2 grandsons, then 5 great grandkids and later on, 3 great-great grandkids, she did as much as she could for them, as they all helped keep her heart young and full of love. So special to all.&nbsp;
