David Ross “Dave” Hederstedt, 83, of Hutchinson, died May 7, 2024, at his home. &nbsp;He was born August 22, 1940, in Salina, Kansas, to Ross and Myrtle (Veitch) Hederstedt.

Dave graduated from Salina Central High School in 1958, received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kansas in 1962, and his Juris Doctor degree from KU School of Law in 1965. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969 as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG). &nbsp;Dave then went to work in Lyndon, Kansas, for seven years in a private law practice with the firm Coffman, Jones &amp; Hederstedt. &nbsp;In 1975, he joined the First National Bank of Hutchinson Trust Department as a Trust Administrator. &nbsp;Dave retired as Senior Vice-President and Trust Officer for the bank in 2006. &nbsp;He was a member of the Reno County Bar Association and the American Bar Association.&nbsp;

Dave was actively involved in the Hutchinson community, serving on various boards of directors, and he was a strong advocate in Hutchinson and the State of Kansas for individuals with disabilities. &nbsp;His involvement included chairman of the Board of Directors for the Training and Evaluation Center of Hutchinson (TECH) and chairman of the Kansas Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities Services. &nbsp;Dave also served on the boards for Beyond Barriers (formerly Prairie Independent Living Resource Center), the Disability Rights Center of Kansas, the Hutchinson Public Library, United Way of Reno County, and the Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Foundation. &nbsp;In addition, he served on the advisory committee for the Hutchinson Community College Legal Assistant program, was president of the Ambassadors Club for the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce and was treasurer of Reno County Special Olympics Athletic Club. &nbsp;Dave was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, where he served on the Vestry.&nbsp;

On October 9, 1987, he married Valerie Ann (Walker) Tunnell, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;

Dave is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of 36 years, Valerie Hederstedt of Hutchinson; children, Sarah Blake (Chuck) of Hutchinson, Laura Hederstedt (Lance Irby) of Mission, KS, and Sam Hederstedt of Hutchinson; stepdaughters, Shawna Tunnell (Jamie Kanski) of McLean, VA, Julie Jimison (Scott) of Manhattan, KS, and Lori Landron (Carlos) of Hutchinson; five grandchildren, T. J. Briggs (Tucker), Rachel Kephart, Annie Blake, Charlie Kephart, and Joe Blake; eight step-grandchildren, Adam Jimison (Chelsi), Alex Clifford (Taylor), Josh Jimison (Rachel), Casey Jimison (Sarah), James Kanski, Sheridan Kanski, Grace Prigmore, and Jordan Kanski; step-great-grandchildren, Sloan Jimison and Cash Clifford; and good friend, co-parent and co-grandparent, Rae Pat Hederstedt of Hutchinson. Dave is also survived by cousins and many dear friends from all phases of his life. He truly loved his family and friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepdaughter, Renée Speicher-Prigmore.

Memorial service will be June 6, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, Hutchinson, with the Deacon Todd Ray officiating. &nbsp;Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. to service time at the church.&nbsp;

Jonas William “Bill” Street, 85, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at his home in Arlington, KS. Bill was born March 6, 1939, in Vinita, OK, the son of Jonas Maurice and Martha Louise (Speed) Street.

Bill graduated from Yates Center High School, Yates Center, KS in 1957. After high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1959. Bill was an artist and craftsman. He enjoyed wood working, creating beautiful and unique pieces. He also enjoyed fishing and spending all his free time with his family. Bill was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Legion Riders.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, John Maurice Street.

Bill is survived by his four children, Dana C. Setter, Jonas C. (Laurie) Street, John G. (Sherri) Street, and Darcy A. (Aaron) Basye; one stepdaughter, Barbara (Scott) Bontrager; one sister, Martha J. Allen; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Per Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67502. Donna M. Tritsch, 69, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Select Specialty in Wichita. She was born on April 15, 1955 in Wichita to Donald Edward and Dorothea (Miessler) Williams. Donna married Robert "Bob" Lawrence Tritsch on October 2, 1982 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Natrona. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2015.

Donna graduated from Pratt High School in 1973. She worked as a Special Education teacher at Burlingame, Kansas for 5 years before coming to Pratt to teach at Liberty Middle School for 40 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was on the Finance Board and Church Choir. She enjoyed spending time with her children, swimming laps at her pool and assisting with Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her sons, Ryan Tritsch and Clinton Tritsch both of Pratt; siblings, Roger (Renee') Williams of Wichita, Mike (Ellen) Williams of Derby, Pam Kilgariff of Blackburn, Oklahoma and Debbie (Steve) Webster of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Williams; brother in-law, Russell Kilgariff; and great-nephews, Andrew Williams and Taylor Woods.

Paul “Mike” Michael Allphin- Mike passed away on May 28, 2024 at the Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born on September 7, 1946 at the Pratt City Hospital in Pratt, Kansas to Calvin and Dorine (Faulkner) Allphin. He attended Coats Grade and High Schools and was a part of the 1964 class.

Mike loved everything about horses, being a cowboy and being a good friend. He lived many places, knew many people, and made many, many friends. He enjoyed his family and spending time with the little ones. He had a good heart and a kind soul and was a devoted and loyal friend. If you were in his circle, he had your back. Mike was always working on and building things. He could fix anything-truly a jack of all trades. He was a skilled mechanic and carpenter. He was creative and talented in working with wood, metal and leather. When he was doing all the cowboy things, he was living his best life. He will be missed by many and by those who knew him best.

He is survived by his wife, Marchelle; Son, Steve (Shannon) Allphin; Daughters, Judy (Lenny) Zimmerman and Tami (Steve) Clark; Son, Paul (Chrissy) Simmons; Step-daughters, Angela (Brett) Reinhart, Renia Becerra, and Amanda Becerra; Sister, Deana (Eddie) Lenkner. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of many good friends.

Keith Alan Wingert, age 55, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on May 25, 2024, surrounded by his very close loved ones. He was born on May 5, 1969, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Judy (McAfee) Caviness and Jerry Wingert.

Keith was a very dedicated and hardworking welder, having worked for several companies including Consolidated Mfg, Kuhn Krause, and most recently at Agco. Outside of work, he found so much joy in going to car shows, gun shows, and concerts with his friends. He was a devoted Raiders fan, enjoyed watching wrestling religiously, riding his motorcycle and spending quality time with friends and family. He would always send tons of funny TikTok videos, recipes and any other crazy things he wanted to look at and make us laugh. Many restaurants knew exactly what he ordered, because he went in there so much. He loved his hot food, the hotter the better for him.

Keith will be remembered for his loving and friendly nature, always sporting a smile. He will be known for his kindness, generosity, and pride in his work. A family person and a great friend, Keith touched the lives of many with his warm heart and unwavering dedication. Once you were his family, you were family for life.

Keith is survived by his mother Judy Caviness, father Jerry Wingert, stepmother Sandra Wingert, sister Kim Baker, brother Roger (Lorie) Wingert, stepsister Bobbie Howard, stepbrother Richard Rinehart, maternal grandmother Virginia Casey, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and best friends.

Sarah S. Smith, 59, of Hutchinson, died May 25, 2024, at her home. She was born on May 5, 1965, in Clinton, OK. At 3 years old, she was adopted by Ralph William and Rose Madelene (Bunch) Walters.

Sarah graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1983. She worked as a secretary for Wiley Elementary School USD 308 for over 20 years. Sarah previously worked at Apple Lane Animal Hospital, The Highlands Golf Course, and Hutchinson Family Dental under Dr. Stucky as a dental assistant. In her free time, she enjoyed many hobbies. Sarah loved dotting, a form of painting using dots, scrapbooking, thrifting and going to garage sales, cruising in her Slugbug, and playing Bunco. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, doing chips and salsa dates, and tending her ladybug garden with her granddaughters. Sports played a meaningful role in her life. She watched her son and, more recently, her granddaughters play sports, always with a handful of dill pickle sunflower seeds.

She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Sarah grew up attending Eastwood Church of Christ. She also attended CrossPoint Church and Temple Baptist Church in Hutchinson.

She married Brian Halula for a short time and later divorced. On July 4, 1988, she married Dan Smith in Hutchinson. They had two children and shared 34 years of marriage before they divorced.

Sarah is survived by her: daughter, Ashley (Josh) Bengtson of Hutchinson; son, Brody (Claire) Smith of Inman; granddaughters, Gracie and Claire Bengtson of Hutchinson; brother, Ray G. (Sandy) Walters of Independence, MO; sisters, Ruby Ducate of Lawrence, KS, and Bernadean ‘Bunny’ (Eddy) Egbert of Reeds Spring, MO; biological brother, Donny (Alice) Alexander of Hinton, OK; biological half-sister, Jamie (Mark) Rowan of Binger, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Lois F. Thayer; and nephew, Jeffery Slavenburg.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024.

At 3 years old, she was adopted by Ralph William and Rose Madelene (Bunch) Walters.Sarah graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1983. She worked as a secretary for Wiley Elementary School USD 308 for over 20 years. Sarah previously worked at Apple Lane Animal Hospital, The Highlands Golf Course, and Hutchinson Family Dental under Dr. Stucky as a dental assistant. In her free time, she enjoyed many hobbies. Sarah loved dotting, a form of painting using dots, scrapbooking, thrifting and going to garage sales, cruising in her Slugbug, and playing Bunco. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, doing chips and salsa dates, and tending her ladybug garden with her granddaughters. Sports played a meaningful role in her life. She watched her son and, more recently, her granddaughters play sports, always with a handful of dill pickle sunflower seeds.She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Sarah grew up attending Eastwood Church of Christ. She also attended CrossPoint Church and Temple Baptist Church in Hutchinson.She married Brian Halula for a short time and later divorced. On July 4, 1988, she married Dan Smith in Hutchinson. They had two children and shared 34 years of marriage before they divorced.Sarah is survived by her: daughter, Ashley (Josh) Bengtson of Hutchinson; son, Brody (Claire) Smith of Inman; granddaughters, Gracie and Claire Bengtson of Hutchinson; brother, Ray G. (Sandy) Walters of Independence, MO; sisters, Ruby Ducate of Lawrence, KS, and Bernadean ‘Bunny’ (Eddy) Egbert of Reeds Spring, MO; biological brother, Donny (Alice) Alexander of Hinton, OK; biological half-sister, Jamie (Mark) Rowan of Binger, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Lois F. Rodney James “Rod” Renollet, 86, of Inman, Kansas, passed away May 30, 2024, at The Arbors at Waldron Place, Hutchinson, Kansas. 

He was born October 22, 1937, in Sterling, Kansas, the son of Roy Ray and Anna Belle (Fenwick) Renollet. 

Rod has resided in Inman since 2019, formerly of Sterling. He graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1955. Rod was a chief operator in the Fractionation industry for over thirty-five years, retiring from Koch Industries in 2002. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Hutchinson and attended the Inman Mennonite Church. 

On November 15, 1959, Rod was united in marriage with Betty Louise White in Sterling. She preceded him in death on September 22, 2016. He is also preceded in death by his parents; son, Mike Renollet; three brothers, Hank Renollet, J.R. Renollet, and Lyle Renollet; sister, Joyce Renollet; and grandson, Clayton Renollet. 

Rod is survived by his son, Rich Renollet and wife Annmarie of Bel Aire, KS; two daughters, Kim Hendrickson and husband Bill of Buhler, KS, and Mary Norris and husband Jack of Inman, KS; two brothers, Gene Renollet and wife Alice of Platte City, MO, and Bob Renollet and wife Joan of Lyons, KS; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 

Funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Inman Mennonite Church, with Pastor Harold Nelson officiating. Burial will be at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Rod was an avid Kansas City Royals fan, the family suggests wearing casual Royals attire in honor of him. 

Visitation will be Saturday, June 1, at 1:30 until service time at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association of Central &amp; Western Kansas in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

Joseph Manuel Torrez, Jr., 38, died unexpectedly May 24, 2024, at his home. He was born February 7, 1986, in Hutchinson, to Joseph Gerard Torrez and Melissa Diane Crafton.

Joseph, or “Little Joe” as he was fondly called by his family and friends, graduated from Hutchinson High School, where he played football and wrestled. &nbsp;He enjoyed writing, painting, playing video games and his saxophone, and lifting weights. &nbsp;Joseph’s faith and family were what he treasured the most. &nbsp;He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, reading his Bible and daily praying the Rosary. &nbsp;Joseph cherished the time spent with his family and he would do anything for them.&nbsp;

Joseph is survived by: &nbsp;his mother, Melissa Crafton; father, Joe Torrez, both of Hutchinson; siblings, Jessica Phillips, Mary Torrez (Chris Biswell), Marcus Torrez, Alec Torrez, Trinity Torrez, Abigail Torrez, Rebeka Torrez, Eva Torrez, Julian Torrez, and Nicholas Torrez; nieces, Eloise and Francesca Biswell and Lyla and Mya Phillips; nephew, Alejandro Torrez; grandfather, Frank Torrez; grandmother, Louise Wagner, all of Hutchinson; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

William Gregory “Gregg” Easterling, 65, of Chase, Kansas, passed away May 27, 2024, at Denali National Park, Alaska. 

He was born February 12, 1959, in Laurel, Mississippi, the son of Sidney and Sandra (Walters) Easterling. 

Gregg has resided in Chase for the past twenty-one years, formerly of McPherson, Kansas, and Laurel, Mississippi. He graduated from EE Smith High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. 

Gregg worked at Superior Essex in Hoisington as a bulk line jacketing operator for eleven years, retiring in May of 2023. He was a member at the Community Presbyterian Church, Chase, where he also served as an elder. Gregg was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed all things nature. He was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, even when they were not the team to love. 

If you couldn’t find him manicuring his lawn or watching a game, you could just about guarantee you could find him with his wife going to movies or concerts. Gregg loved his family fiercely and would have invited anyone in need into his home and generously cared for them. He loved his small community and serving them. 

Gregg believed God called him to serve others the way Christ serves us. He loved Jesus and wanted everyone he knew to experience God’s unconditional love. On February 14, 2003, Gregg was united in marriage with Debbie Winkelman in Chase. 

He is survived by his wife, Debbie of Chase, KS; three sons, William Easterling of Chase, KS, Jeff Winkelman of Chase, KS, and Lonnie Winkelman and wife Laurie of Lyons, KS; two daughters, Jessica Spohn and husband Phil of Newton, KS, and Michelle Williams of Overland Park, KS; sister, Joy McKnight and husband Jerry of Durham, NC; and nine grandchildren. 

Gregg is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amber Marie Easterling; and sister, Cynthia Hamilton. 

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Community Presbyterian Church, Chase, with Pastor Catherine Neely Burton officiating. The family request everyone wear Chiefs attire to the service. Burial will be at Chase Springdale Cemetery at a later date.

William Gregory “Gregg” Easterling |1959-2024|

Ryan Joseph Desemo, 42 of Sterling, KS, passed away May 24, 2024. 

He was born April 23, 1982, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Dan and Kathy (Burditt) Desemo. 

Ryan resided in Sterling for the last ten years, formerly of Great Bend. As a young man, he was an active participant in Boy Scouts and was chosen for Order of the Arrow, both of which shaped him into the man who wouldn't turn down a challenge and never stopped serving others. 

He began his journey as a musician in 5th grade, passionately playing trumpet through college, and participating in City, Marching, and Jazz band, to name a few. 

He graduated from Great Bend High School with the class of 2001, and was blessed with a group of loyal long term friends, but is remembered by all who went to school with him as a kind soul with a contagious smile. He received an Associate of Science degree from Barton County Community College, and a bachelor’s degree in Information Networking and Telecommunications from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS. He was a part of Alpha Kappa Psi, business fraternity at FHSU.

Ryan worked for Imagine IT in Sterling for the last ten years, a dedicated employee. He loved cars, riding and working on his motorcycles; camping and the outdoors. Ryan loved all music, but especially when he could experience it live, traveling to Winfield, KS with his wife Melissa for 20+ years to attend the Walnut Valley Festival. 

Caring little of others opinions, all Ryan needed was a good song to show off his best dance moves and enjoy the moment. He never took himself too seriously and had a smile that lit up the room; and getting a photo of him without a silly face was quite a challenge. He started helping with all kinds of family projects at an early age, and this was something that continued throughout his life. Ryan enthusiastically and willingly would help anyone, and showed patience and kindness to all. He cherished his time spent with family and friends, and was so deeply loved by all.

On October 22, 2011, he married Melissa Beck in Claflin, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife - Melissa Beck; parents - Dan and Kathy Desemo; sister - Sara Butler and her husband Caden, and children, Breeley and Cayson; grandmother - Shirley Desemo; aunt and uncle - Ann and Chris Baca and their children Kalin, Kolten, and Kilah; aunt - Gwen Huck; father and mother-in-law - Jim and Carol Beck; brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Ashley Beck and their children Maddison, Everett, and Henry; lifelong best friends - Josh and Laura Piland, and their children, Jeremiah, Micah, and Elijah, and many other cherished family and friends.

Ryan is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Joe B. Desemo; and maternal grandparents, Ray and Helen Burditt.

Per Ryan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life and reception will be held Saturday, June 22 at 3:00 p.m., Alden United Methodist Church, Alden, KS. Please come as you are. Margorie L. (Buell) Graham 91 died May 27, 2024, at Newton Presbyterian Manor. She was born November 24, 1932, in Peabody, Kansas to Keith and Ursula (Shriver) Buell. On February 17, 1952, she married Rex Graham and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2015.

Marjorie was a member of the Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton. She was a 1950 graduate of Peabody High School.

Marjorie worked as the City Clerk for Peabody for 12 ½ years and then continued her career as a bookkeeper for the Society of Decorative Toll Painters for another 11 ½ years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and serving her church. She could often be found relaxing sewing and quilting and also enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Margorie is survived by her son Neil (Karol) Graham; daughter Cheryl Wallweber; brother Keith Buell Jr.; and sisters Carmen Hall and Delores Hordeski. She is also survived by one Granddaughter Emily Sieber (Joey) and one great grandchild. Margorie is also survived by granddog Spanky Graham

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Lori Lyn Graham, sister Carmina Yost, and son in law Chris Wallweber and granddog Chester Wallweber

A committal service is planned at a later date in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody, Kansas

On May 22, 2024, Wanda Faye Thompson, age 91, passed away at Attica Long Term Care. Wanda was born March 7, 1933, in Iuka, KS to Orval and Ermal (Tillery) Parker.

Wanda graduated from Byers High School in 1951. She married Bill Hager in 1952. To this union three children were born: William Kent “Bill”, Brenda Lovelle, and Michael Eugene (Mike). They later divorced.

Wanda worked for the Pratt County Extension Office for 17 ½ years. She met Earl Thompson at the VFW and on September 14, 1981, they married in Alva, OK. They lived in Great Bend and Ellinwood, KS, where Wanda worked for the District Court System for 11 ½ years before retiring in March 1955 to care for Earl’s dad, Donald, in Rogers, AR. Wanda was very active in the VFW Post 3031 Rogers, AR, where she held several offices, including President of the Ladies Auxiliary. Wanda and Earl moved back to Kansas in May 2011 to be closer to family.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Roy) Briggeman of Emporia, KS; son, Mike Hager of Rogers, AR; brother, Bill (Deanna) Parker of Cunningham, KS; stepsons, Randy (Lisa) Thompson of Sharon, KS and Robert Thompson of Medicine Lodge, KS; stepdaughter Cathy (Mike) Dunn of Leavenworth, KS; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Wanda is preceded in death by her husband, Earl, March 2024; her parents; sister, Orvaleen Post; brothers, Shirley, Dwane, Robert and Ramon Parker; ex-husband, Bill Hager and son, William Kent Hager.

Wanda never met a stranger and always had a smile on her. She was feisty and funny and loved to tease. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Memorial Service at a later date in Isabel, KS. Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel.

Our dear mother, Cynthia Sue Davis, of Marion, Kansas sadly passed away on May 20, 2024, in Hutchinson, Kansas at the age of 69. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, sister and aunt.

Cynthia was born on October 15, 1954, in Reno, Nevada, the eldest of seven children of Gary and Sarah (Finch) Hunt. She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Davis, and her cherished daughter, Tammy Depperschmidt and son-in-law, Thomas Depperschmidt; her beloved grandchildren, BreiAunna Rose of Fullerton, California, Patrick Bankston, Josh Bankston, Kailynn Depperschmidt, Centhiyah Bankston, Kaitlyn Bankston, and Hunter Depperschmidt all of Hutchinson, Kansas; her siblings, Harry (Patty) Hunt of Martindale, Texas, Kevin (Laurie) Hunt of Coos Bay, Oregon, Geralyn (Mike) Cherry of Pismo Beach, California, Brenda (Todd) Frank of Mesa, Arizona, and Kendra Chambers of Indio, California. Cindy was preceded in death by her son, Gary Gene Obie Davis of Marion, Kansas, her cherished grandson, Dwayne Depperschmidt, her loving parents of Kerrville, Texas, and her beloved sister, Trudi Hunt of Kerrville, Texas.

Cindy worked as a cashier, baker and gardener. Ronnie wanted her to stop working at Plant Kingdom because she brought all the plants, trees, and flowers home for him to plant. She particularly loved strawberries and tomatoes. Cindy was passionate about cooking, crocheting and baking. Her talent for making the best fried chicken, yummy breads and delicious cinnamon rolls will be forever missed by her family. In her teens, Cindy would come home with donuts and hide them from her siblings in the washer. Later in life, she worked at Wenchells and her kids and grandkids were often spoiled with donuts and her special Dr. Pepper syrup formula which she made just to Tammy’s liking. Cindy enjoyed sitting by the campfire telling stories, making s’mores and camping with her family and friends. Cindy spoiled her grandchildren with snacks when they went camping. She particularly loved joining her son, Gary Gene and her husband, Ronnie, for a motorcycle ride.

A celebration of life will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2:00 pm. at her daughter’s home in Hutchinson, Kansas. The family requests donations be made to the Phoenix Hospice, who provided excellent comfort and care for Cindy and her family in her final days or the Parkinson's Foundation to increase awareness of this devastating disease. We will forever miss Cindy’s laughter, her caring words, her friendly smile and her love of camping and motorcycle riding.

She was born on April 26, 1935 in Butler, OK, the daughter of Granville C. Clymer and Helen Elizabeth (Crawford) Clymer Everley. On September 6, 1953, she married Carl Joe Schield in Liberal, KS. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2024.

Joanne was a Public Information Coordinator at the Iroquois Center for Human Development in Greensburg, KS. She was member of the First Christian Church of Medicine Lodge, KS and the Pilot Club. Joanne and her husband Carl were residents of Greensburg, KS, before relocating to Medicine Lodge, KS after the tornado in 2007.

Surviving are two sons, Terry (Janet) Schield of Hutchinson, KS and Doug (Kim) Schield of Clermont, FL; three grandchildren, Peter (Jennifer) Schield, Amy (Jake) Bauer and Alexa (Joe) Olson; Eight great grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Schultz of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, an infant daughter, Susan Roxanne Schield and one sister, Joyce Brookhart.

Stanley Lee Voth, 78, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Schowalter Villa. He was born on June 13, 1945 near Moundridge, Kansas, to John and Linda (Graber) Voth.

He was baptized at the First Mennonite Church of Christian in Moundridge at the age of 16. Stan was a current member of the Littleton Methodist Church in Littleton, CO.

He graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1963. He later received a B.S. from Bethel College to become a teacher. During his time in education, he acquired his Master’s of Science in Curriculum and Supervision in 1981 from the University of Northern Colorado.

Stan went on to work for CapMark Securities, formerly known as GMAC Commercial Mortgage, as an comptroller. He worked in the industry for 25 years.

He became acquainted with Habitat for Humanity and volunteered with a local affiliate for several years.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Penner, Alta Johnson, and Ruth Kiser; brothers, Wilbur Voth, Jim Voth and Glenn Voth; brothers-in-law, Walter Penner and Mel Johnson; and sister-in-law, Sandra (Miller) Voth.

Sheila I. Forney, 81, died May 23, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Hutchinson, KS, on December 18, 1942 to Cecil N. and Dorothy A (Creech) Browning.

Sheila graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1960 and Hadley School of Business. Sheila served in the United States Army for a year and a half before being honorably discharged to start her family. She then served 9 years in the National Guard. She worked as a secretary for Colladay Hardware and St. Francis Ministries before retiring. She enjoyed counted cross-stitch, tole painting, coloring and computer games. On July 13, 1979 she married, Lawrence “Larry” Forney. He died March 16, 2016.

Sheila is survived by: son, Anthony “Tony” (Stephanie) Morgan, Hayward, CA; daughter, Annette Morgan, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Elin and Luke Morgan, Hayward, CA; Rhonda Rodriguez, Harry, Matt and Melody Forney; special cousins, Sue, Sherri and Kris; best friend of 57 years, Mary Starks; and many other wonderful friends.

Catherine Wherrell Schmidt died peacefully May 24, 2024 in Newton, Kansas. She was born on August 7, 1942 to John and Alvena Wherrell in her home town of Newton, Ks. 

On February 7, 1959, she married Alvin Roy Schmidt. Together they had two sons and three daughters. 

Catherine "Cathy" went to St. Mary's private school until the 8th grade. She then went on to take CNA classes. Cathy was a Certified Nursing Assistant for 30 years before retiring in 2003.

After retirement Catherine enjoyed spending her time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was also one to love an adventure. She went along on many family vacations with Dan, Sonia, Brad, Jerry &amp; Marishawn and Ledena.

One of Cathy's favorite past times was heading to Kansas City to watch a Royals game with her kids. 

Whenever needed, Catherine would babysit her great-grandbabies. Each of her "little ones" have their own special fond memory from spending time with her.

Catherine had a very big heart and loved everyone with all her whole heart. She found reason to smile and laugh almost everyday. Cathy deeply loved the holidays and treasured the time with her large family. 

Survivors include sons, Daniel (Carol) Schmidt and Jerry (Marishawn) Schmidt; daughters Ledena (Kenneth) Goff, Sonia (Brad) Buchta, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. 

Preceded in death is husband Alvin Roy, daughter, Sandra (David) Mills, brothers, Lloyd (Elizabeth) Wherrell, Wilbur (Marien) Wherrell and Robert (Yvonne) Wherrell, sisters, Delores (Gerald) Sartain, Rose (Chester) Lindsey, her parents, John W &amp; Alvena (Schulte) Wherrell, as well as two grandsons. 

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 2:00pm in the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made out to Petersen's Family Funeral Home to help aid in expenses.

She will be so missed. Catherine was the glue that held the family tightly together.

Preceded in death is husband Alvin Roy, daughter, Sandra (David) Mills, brothers, Lloyd (Elizabeth) Wherrell, Wilbur (Marien) Wherrell and Robert (Yvonne) Wherrell, sisters, Delores (Gerald) Sartain, Rose (Chester) Lindsey, her parents, John W &amp; Alvena (Schulte) Wherrell, as well as two grandsons. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 2:00pm in the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel.Memorial contributions may be made out to Petersen's Family Funeral Home to help aid in expenses.She will be so missed. Leda F. Buller Kaufman was born December 18, 1937 to Herman H. and Elizabeth (Neufeld) Buller in Buhler, Kansas. She passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at the Newton Medical Center. She attended the Buhler Mennonite Church and was baptized there. In 1955, she graduated from Buhler High School and made plans for her wedding. On September 4, 1955, she married Gilbert P. “Gib” Kaufman at the Buhler Mennonite Church. Together they moved to Denver, Colorado, for 1W Service where a year later, their first son, Brian, was born. By 1957 they moved to the family dairy farm near Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge, where their next son, Warren, was born. Later she had two daughters, Sondra and Lynelle. Their four children kept her busy throughout her life.

Alongside Gib, she farmed by feeding calves, driving tractors and trucks and milking cows. She was also able to put together a great tasting meal regularly (sometimes microwaved), whether it be for two or twenty people. She always had Little Debbie snacks on hand. Gib preceded her in death on January 31, 2005. She later married Jim Gaeddert on July 11, 2012. With Jim, they wintered to Sun City, Arizona and enjoyed watching the Royals spring training. With her new family, Leda embraced Jim’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her own and always remembered their birthdays. Jim preceded her in death on June 10, 2022. She missed her husbands and was able to find companionship with her friends from Buhler, Eden Mennonite Church, and Pine Village.

She was preceded in death by her parents, HH and Elizabeth Buller; husbands, Gib Kaufman and Jim Gaeddert; granddaughter, Maggie Rath; brothers, Lewis, and John Lee and his wife, Beulah; sister, Erma and her husband, Melvern Goering; and sister-in-law, Rose Buller.

Those left to remember her include her brother, Richard Buller of Colorado; sister-in-law, Mirial Buller of California; sons, Brian Kaufman of Moundridge, Warren Kaufman and wife, Jerri of McPherson; daughters, Sondra and husband, Robert Tolle of Lawrence, Lynelle and husband, Russell Stucky of Moundridge. Leda had 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Jim’s sons, Doug Gaeddert and wife, Lisa of Indiana; Greg Gaeddert and wife, Terri of Cottonwood Falls, Brad Gaeddert and wife, Tracy of Overland Park; Jim’s daughter, Janelle and husband, Dan Benninghoff of Overland Park. Jim had 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2024 at Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery, rural Moundridge. Doris Ann Atchison, 82, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at Pratt Health and Rehab. She was born on November 2, 1941 in Kingman to Alphons Herman and Bernardine E. (Rottering)Voss.

Doris attended Amarillo College. She worked as a sales clerk and deli worker for 25 years at Toot 'N Totum in Amarillo, Texas where she was also a manager and received manager of the year. Most recently she worked at Casey General Store in Medicine Lodge. She was a member of Community Bible Fellowship. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved being sociable and was a jokester to her customers and coworkers. When she had to stop working, she missed it so much.

Keith Eugene Barr, 57, passed away on the 25th of May 2024 in Bentley, Kansas in the comfort of his own home.

He was born on May 5th, 1967 in Wichita, Kansas at Wesley Medical Center to Kenneth Eugene Barr and Velma June (White) Barr. He is remembered as being the most kind hearted, giving and caring man anyone could ever meet. He was an avid fisherman, could build or fix anything you put in front of him, and a wonderful Papa to his beautiful grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by both his parents, Kenneth Eugene Barr, Velma June (White) Barr, and his life long partner Tamara Lee Rogers.

He is survived by his wife, Holly Rann; children Jesse Ellis, Valerie Barr (Rogelio Villa-Hernandez), Nicole Barr (CJ Zongker); grandchildren Michael, Decio, Oliver, Gabriel, Navaeh, Olivia, Arianna; siblings Tony Barr, Nick (Jessica) Barr, Connie Barr (Craig Mccray); uncle Albert Barr; and his cousin Albert Barr.

Venita L. Waggoner, 88, was ushered into the presence of her Savior on Monday, May 27, 2024 after her 14 yr battle with polycythemia vera. She was born in Anthony, Kansas to Eugene Griffith Gates and Jamima (Garlow) Gates, the seventh of nine children. She was raised in rural Hazelton, Kansas where she attended Sand Creek one room school house until attending Hazelton Schools and was a 1953 graduate at Hazelton High School. She loved competition and playing softball, basketball, volleyball in her school years.

The love of her life, Dee, saw her when she was in 8th grade and stated he would marry her, which he did on June 27, 1953. They began their married life in Fort Riley, Kansas, where their first son Greg was born in 1954. They returned to the Wichita area in 1955 where their daughter Patricia was born. Dee and Venita moved to Corwin, Kansas to be close to family where two more children, David and Jeannie, joined the family circle. 1958 brought heartache at the death of their infant son David. The family moved to rural Valley Center in 1962 where they have remained to this day. 

Dee and Venita rodeoed on weekends until 1967 when she came to know the Lord. They began attending church where she did a 4 year Bible Study with Mrs. Nutter where she grounded her children in seeking the Lord, studying God's Word and living for Him. She was an amazing prayer warrior when God placed names on her heart and when people asked for prayer she would gather the family to kneel and pray at the couch. She wore the beloved names wife, mom, Nana, sister, "Skeeter", aunt, cousin and friend. 

Having learned baking, cooking and all from her mom on the family farm, she was well known for her cinnamon rolls, chicken n noodles, jellies (sand plum fav), cookies and more. In VC she was a waitress at Jones Restaurant, cooked for USD 262 schools, then since 2003 at Baker Funeral Home VC. 

They worked with youth, loved helping around the church, and willing to serve in any capacity. Their greatest love also was their family, and traveled to see their grandchildren excel in so many areas of life. 

Venita is survived by her children, Greg (Sandy) Waggoner of Amarillo, TX, Patricia (Mark) Huston of Hutchinson, KS and Jeannie (Mike) Voges of Valley Center; grandchildren, Boone (Dayna) Waggoner, Amber (Tim) Swartz, Tandolynn (Josh) Hinojosa, Jenna (Brad) Brack, Heather (Doug) Marshall, John (Dresden) Huston, Clay (Brittany) Waggoner, Kelloway Norton; great grandchildren, Colt Waggoner, Emma Waggoner, Jeremiah Swartz, Kelli Waggoner, Aurora Swartz, Caedmon Marshall, Conley Brack, Josiah Swartz, Cora Brack, Ariella Swartz, Illeana Marshall, Audrey Huston, Thane Norton, Heidi Huston, Tyler Moeller and Maggie Moeller; brother Harold Gates, sister Shirley Hamm; brother-in-law David Waggoner, sister-in-law Joyce Waggoner, many nephews, nieces, other family and friends. &nbsp;

Venita (Gates) Waggoner |2024|

Gloria Jane McMurray, 95, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, surrounded by family at McPherson Hospital.

Gloria was born on November 1, 1928, in Thurman, IA, the daughter of Daniel Clayton and Vera Mabel (Ewell) Tillman.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School and attended McPherson College. On December 21, 1947, Gloria was united in marriage to Robert W. Lowe.&nbsp; He died January 17, 1969.&nbsp; On July 7, 1979, Gloria married Samuel H. McMurray.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on September 27, 2007.

She was a CNA at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, helped on the family farm, and also worked at the McPherson Sentinel. Gloria was a longtime member of New Gottland Covenant Church.

Survivors include: her son, Steve Lowe of McPherson; two daughters, Sandy (Steve) Ratzlaff of Hutchinson, KS and Sheri (Gary) Abell of McPherson, KS; step-children, Vickie (Russ) Dryden of Haysville, KS and Brad (Jane) McMurray of Plant City, FL; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Stan Lowe; a brother, Carroll Tillman; a sister, Lucille Wittenberg; and grandson, Corey Bruce.

McMurray.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on September 27, 2007.She was a CNA at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, helped on the family farm, and also worked at the McPherson Sentinel. Gloria was a longtime member of New Gottland Covenant Church.Survivors include: her son, Steve Lowe of McPherson; two daughters, Sandy (Steve) Ratzlaff of Hutchinson, KS and Sheri (Gary) Abell of McPherson, KS; step-children, Vickie (Russ) Dryden of Haysville, KS and Brad (Jane) McMurray of Plant City, FL; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Stan Lowe; a brother, Carroll Tillman; a sister, Lucille Wittenberg; and grandson, Corey Bruce.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 6, at New Gottland Covenant Church with Pastor Dan Parry officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to New Gottland Covenant Church in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.Personal condolences may be sent to the family at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stockhamfamily.com/" target="_blank">www.stockhamfamily.com</a>.
