Gary Gilbert Greer was born on October 30, 1938 at Mercy Hospital in Independence, KS to Gilbert and Irene Greer. &nbsp;One year later, his sister, Shirley, joined their family. &nbsp;His extended family was close and a very important part of his life. &nbsp;They were farmers and all worked together. &nbsp;He was particularly close to his Dad’s parents, Granddad and Gammie; in fact, they lived just across the road. &nbsp;During his young life, he began hunting with his Granddad which he loved. &nbsp;He continued his love for hunting throughout his life.

He attended various rural schools outside of Independence. &nbsp;At a young age, his family was invited to attend Bolton Friends Church by his Second grade teacher, Mrs. Earhart. &nbsp;In 1946, at 8 years old, he accepted Christ. &nbsp;Mrs. Towery, his Sunday School teacher, led him to the Lord.

He attended Jr. High and High School in Independence, KS. &nbsp;In High School, his dad made him quit the Basketball Team to help out more on the farm. &nbsp;This was a tough time for him. &nbsp;However, during this time, he had a lot of great church experiences. &nbsp;During this time, he became close to the Thornburg family.

He attended Junior College in Independence and graduated in 1958. During this time, he continued to help his dad on the farm. &nbsp;At this time, Don and Glenda Mardock came to Bolton Friends Church as pastors. &nbsp;Don was an important mentor in his life. &nbsp;Don offered to give a new Bible to anyone who would memorize “The Sermon on the Mount”, Matthew 5-7 (111 verses). &nbsp;He and his Mom both memorized the entire passage and received a Bible, which the family still has to this day. &nbsp;Three years ago, Gary visited Don and Glenda in Colorado. &nbsp;That was a special reunion where many memories were shared.

He went to Friends Bible College in Haviland, KS in the Fall of 1958 where he met the love of his life, Elaine Sharon Day. &nbsp;They got married one year later on Sept 19, 1959. &nbsp;They moved back to the farm to work with his dad for one year. &nbsp;He quickly realized why he left the farm and decided to move to Wichita to pursue his degree in Elementary Education at Friends University.

They began attending Friends Chapel Church in Wichita, KS. &nbsp;In the Fall of 1960, their first child, Brenda Kaylene, was born. &nbsp;This was during hunting season, so you know there is a story there. &nbsp; From 1962-1964, he taught 5th Grade at Kelly Elementary after which he decided to pursue a different career.

In 1964, their 2nd child, Lori Ann, was born in the Spring. He began working for Dr. Jim Wilson as an agronomist at DeKalb. &nbsp;He was back to doing what he knew best … farming; however, he now received a regular paycheck for his work. &nbsp;He worked there from 1964 to 1982.

In 1968, their 3rd child, Gregory Gene was born. &nbsp;This was a scary time for him as he considered the extra responsibility of raising 3 children. Pastor and friend, Carl Gordon, was very encouraging during this time.

In 1972, Friends Chapel Church and North Friends Church merged and began meeting in the basement of First Baptist Church. &nbsp;In the 1970s, he was first exposed to the Daily Walk Bible which had a major impact on his spiritual life.

From 1972 – 2024, he attended Northridge at its current location. &nbsp;Dale Lewis, Arch Marshall, David Leach, Duane Hansen, Ben Staley, Larry Kinser, Manny Garcia, and Shane Shetley were his pastors during this time period.

He decided to move his family to Wichita after Northridge purchased the land to build this church. &nbsp;His desire was to be near the church so that his family could easily be very involved in church activities. &nbsp;God, Family, Scripture, Church, Sports and his Work were important to him.

In 1982, Monsanto bought DeKalb and he was laid off as a result. &nbsp;This was discouraging; however, he believed that God gave him this time to be more involved in watching Greg play basketball and soccer.

In 1984, he reentered the world of wheat research with Rohm and Haas. In 1988, Monsanto bought Rohm and Hass where he continued to work until 2000 at which time he took early retirement as a result of downsizing. &nbsp;

During his life, he served in many capacities, such as Sunday School Teacher, singing in Choir, serving on various committees, supporting missions, both local and global, participating in Camp Quaker Haven, Family Promise, Prison Ministry, volunteering at local schools, Gideons, Rescue Union, higher Christian Education (Barclay College and Friends University), Mid America Yearly Meeting, the Paxton Box and many other ministries. &nbsp;One of his highest honors was to help Lori as she fought Cancer. &nbsp;It was a major blow to him when she left this earth to enter Heaven with her Lord. &nbsp;Just think of the glorious reunion that was on Father’s Day of this year.

Family continued to be a highlight in his life. &nbsp;His eyes lit up whenever he saw his grandchildren or great grandchildren.

&nbsp; The Christian life is a process. &nbsp;(Philippians 1:6) &nbsp;It is filled with highlights, discouraging losses and many things in between. &nbsp;Some of the important practices which become habits in this lifelong process are:

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Taking in the Word through Hearing, Reading, Studying, Meditating, and Memorizing it.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Maintaining regular conversations with God, the father; Jesus, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Regular Participation in a Bible Preaching and People Serving Body of Believers

Such an active faith directed process in this life will be rewarded with Eternal Life in a New Heaven and New Earth.

Sharon (Pie) Dauber-Anderton was born in Hutchinson, KS. The youngest child of Carl E. Dauber and Marie Anna Wyler-Dauber-Chase. Her spirit departed her earthly body on June 3, 2024, at home in Illinois. She attended Hutchinson schools and graduated Hutchinson High. She lived and worked in California and Colorado before returning to Kansas. She married Ronald (Andy) Anderton in Wichita, KS and they eventually settled in Hutchinson. They were blessed with a daughter, Shawn Marie, that was the light of her life. Sharon and Ron divorced after 22 years, but remained forever friends.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Shawn Marie Anderton of Illinois, brother Dick and wife Adrienne Dauber, sister-in-law Leona (Carl) Dauber, many nieces and nephews, soul mate cousin Donna (Punk) Alfaro, and faithful friends Karen Almanza, Pat Dawson, and Jan Clifford, and her two grand-kitties that loved to keep her company.

She was preceded in death by her father who was killed by a drunk driver when Sharon was 16 and a senior in high school, her best friend and mother, her loving step-father Thomas A. Chase, only sister Beverly Hendershot-Paque, brothers Carl and Terry and wife Nevada, and nephews Jeffery and Danny Dauber, Clinton and Ronnie Hendershot and her beloved Yorkies Muffin and Annabelle and cats Bullseye and Jack.

Sharon was an indominable spirit, a loving motherly figure to so many, a caring soul who always put others first, ready to rescue any animal, an advocate for the underdog, someone you were immediately drawn to talk, a great artist, loved to dance, and she was loved more than anything by her daughter.

Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Elliott Chapel. &nbsp;Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. At her request, she was cremated. Private inurnment will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. &nbsp;

We mournfully announce the passing of Joshua Lee Dickinson, 46, of South Hutchinson, KS. Josh went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 13, 2024. Josh was born to Jim and Irene (Ryff) Dickinson, took his first breath on June 30, 1977.

Josh was a force to be reckoned with from the get-go, attending Faris Elementary School, Liberty Middle School, and Hutchinson High School, earning his GED in 1995. He also attended Hutchinson Community College.

While Josh never married, he dearly loved and was dearly loved by more family and friends than one could count. He loved helping others and volunteered at his Mother’s Daycare where he shared his “kid at heart” personality and was adored by all the children. 

Although Josh suffered from debilitating asthma, he enjoyed many hobbies including reading, listening and creating music and helping anybody and everybody he possibly could. He was also a member of Union Valley Bible Church. We will miss him beyond measure.

Josh is survived by: his mother, Irene Dickinson; grandmother, Lois Ryff; sister, Elizabeth Dickinson; nephew and best buddy, James K. Dickinson; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

He was preceded in death by: his father, James C. Dickinson; grandfather, Kenneth Ryff; grandparents, Glenn and Esther Dickinson; and uncle, Craig Dickinson.

Anna Marie “Annie” (Thimm) Schrag, 92, passed away at Pine Village, Moundridge, Kansas, on June 18, 2024. She was born to Henry and Anna (Claassen) Thimm on December 28, 1931, in Beatrice, Nebraska.

She attended Bethel College, Newton, Kansas, where she met Gordon K. Schrag and they were married August 31, 1953.

They were blessed with three children, Keith, Barbara and Julia. She participated in activities at the Eden Mennonite Church, and later at the First Mennonite Church in McPherson.

Annie was a substitute teacher, finished woodwork in new homes, cared for the elderly at The Cedars Home in McPherson, worked as a para in special education at McPherson High School, and assisted Gordon in his insurance office until they retired.

Her mother-in-law, Laura Schrag, taught her to embroider and she thoroughly enjoyed that hobby by making quilts, tea towels, etc., for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also made a scrap book for each grandchild when they graduated from high school, enjoyed playing piano, gardening, reading, and especially loved cooking delicious meals for her family.

Annie spent her last years with Gordon at Pine Village, Moundridge, Kansas, with a short stay at The Cedars in McPherson. For this she was very grateful and appreciated all the care and love she was given.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Schrag of Pine Village; children: Keith Schrag (Connie) of Moundridge, Kansas, Barbara Mayo (Steve) of Hays, Kansas, and Julia Kaufman (Kevin) of McPherson, Kansas; grandchildren: Jeremy Schrag (Jaci), Rachel Schrag, Taylor Sechrist (Kevin), Robert Hill, Ryan Hill (Lacey), Jonathan Kaufman (Ted), Lindsay Vogts (Aaron), and Spencer Kaufman; 10 great grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Anna (Claassen) Thimm; sisters, Hildegard Jantzen, Martha Hunsicker and Ellen Esau.

The family will receive friends at Moundridge Funeral Home, 115 Cole St, Moundridge, KS 67107 on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 24, 2024 at Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery with a celebration of life service to follow at 11 a.m. at Eden Mennonite Church, 401 18th Avenue, Moundridge, Kansas 67107. Anna Marie “Annie” (Thimm) Schrag |1931-2024|

Carol Ann Parker, 73, passed away June 18, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi-St Joseph, Wichita, with all her family by her side. She was born Feb. 20, 1951, in Highland Park, Illinois, the daughter of John “Jack” William and Ruth Elizabeth Pirie Liske. While living in Chicago Carol grew up an avid Chicago Bears fan, loved being in the city. She graduated from Deerfield High School, Deerfield, Ill and went on to receive her LPN. She worked as an LPN at Evanston Hospital for a few years before meeting Loren Thiessen. In 1972 they married and began a family. In 1980 they moved the family to Inman, KS where she stayed home to take care of her children. Her and Loren split in 2001, she then moved to Wichita and worked at Dillons on Harry St. for many years. Over the years, she loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and watching their extracurricular school activities. She attended Central Community Church, Wichita.

Survivors include her companion of many years, William “Bill” Spencer, Wichita; her children. She was born Feb. 20, 1951, in Highland Park, Illinois, the daughter of John “Jack” William and Ruth Elizabeth Pirie Liske. While living in Chicago Carol grew up an avid Chicago Bears fan, loved being in the city. She graduated from Deerfield High School, Deerfield, Ill and went on to receive her LPN. She worked as an LPN at Evanston Hospital for a few years before meeting Loren Thiessen. In 1972 they married and began a family. In 1980 they moved the family to Inman, KS where she stayed home to take care of her children. Her and Loren split in 2001, she then moved to Wichita and worked at Dillons on Harry St. for many years. Over the years, she loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and watching their extracurricular school activities. She attended Central Community Church, Wichita.Survivors include her companion of many years, William “Bill” Spencer, Wichita; her children. Carol Ann Parker |1951-2024|

On June 18, 2024, Bobby Dale White left his temporary home for his eternal home.

Born January 5, 1961, to Melvern Dell and Ada Rozella (Rich) White, in Wichita. He graduated from Southeast High School and Emporia State University.

While at Emporia, he met Karyl Lamb and seven months later, they were married on May 23, 1981 in Nickerson. In 1983, during their senior year, the family expanded to include Bryan. After graduation, they moved to Nickerson, and in 1986, Amy joined the family.

Bob initially worked as a mechanic, but his real love turned to the fire industry. Though he enjoyed his time with District 3 fire, retiring as chief, and teaching and coordinating the Fire Science program at HCC, his passion was wildland fire. He spent many summers traveling the country fighting wildland fires.

Bob is survived by Karyl, Bryan and Heidi White, and Leon and Amy Boyea. His grandchildren Brooklynn, Aidan, Kamrynn, Lina, and Lettie White. James and Cora Boyea. Sisters Rita and George Creegan and Cheryl and Hugh Tessendorf. His sisters and brothers-in-laws who he loved like his own siblings. Karen Lovelock, Chris Lamb, Rick and Karie Orem, and Daryl Lamb.

Per Bob’s wishes, he has been cremated and his ashes will be taken to their property in Colorado at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 25, from 6-8 pm at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling. Memorial service will be Wednesday, June 26, 2024, 2:30 pm at Sterling Evangelical Bible Church.

Bob and Karyl have never been formal, so please dress comfortably. Karyl will be wearing her usual blue jeans and polo shirt.

Additionally, please no plants or flowers. Bob knew that Karyl has a brown thumb, and could kill a cactus within days, so he requested memorials for the oncology floor at St. Francis Hospital. Bob was a guest on their floor many times, for many days over the past three years, so the staff was more than doctors, nurses, and aides for Bob and Karyl, they were friends who cared for them and loved them. Velda Mae Souter, 90, of Hutchinson, passed away June 19, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. She was born March 5, 1934, in Stafford County, the daughter of John Henry and Carrie (Weve) Cassady.

A long-time resident of the Hutchinson area, Velda retired from Eaton. She enjoyed being a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, IAMAW Union, and helping the community.

Velda is survived by: her daughters, Philta, Ilander, Della; sons, Jonas, Quentin; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-children; 2 ½ great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Velma, Norma, Laura; brothers, James, Dale Edwin, and John Henry.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cheney Reservoir.

On June 11th my baby girl passed away. On June 12th she was born. I will mourn her every day for the rest of my life. But its not just her life I mourn, its the whole lifetime we should have had together. A lifetime of waking up to her beautiful face and the sound of laughter and tiny footsteps. A lifetime of firsts. Her first breath, the first time she cries, the first time i hold her and kiss her, the first time she squeezes my finger, her first steps, her first words. From the birthday parties and the messes I would take for granted to watching her grow up and become her own person. I will mourn that lifetime for the rest of mine. Noah Loretta Jane, Mommy loves you forever. Heaven and earth may separate us today, but nothing will ever change the fact that you made me a mom. When your heart stopped, part of mine stopped too. A piece of me will always be missing because it went with you. I will hold you again someday baby.. Rest in peace my love.

Virginia Lucille Schneider, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 70. Born in April 1954, Virginia lived a life full of love, spirituality, creativity, and dedication.

Virginia married William Schneider on October 20, 1973, in Wichita, Kansas. Their enduring marriage of over 50 years was a testament to their unwavering commitment and deep affection for one another. Together, they built a loving family that became the cornerstone of their lives.

Virginia is survived by her devoted husband, William; her two sons, Bradley and Christopher; and her two cherished grandchildren, Juliet and Jude. She is also survived by her parents, Martha Hutson and Thomas Hutson, and her two sisters, Thelma Hutson and Kathy Mann. Her family brought joy to her life, and she took immense pride in each of their accomplishments.

A woman of many talents, Virginia was a devoted Bible teacher. For those interested, she shared the Bible's message that a personal friendship with God is available through personal prayer and personal study of the Bible. In addition to her faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Virginia found great joy in quilting and sewing. Her exceptional skill and creativity earned her awards at the State Fair, and her beautifully crafted quilts are treasured by many.

Virginia’s love for dachshunds was well-known among her family and friends. These delightful dogs brought her much happiness and companionship throughout her life.

For many years, Virginia worked as a bus driver and driver's safety instructor, a role in which she touched the lives of countless children and their families. Her patience, kindness, and dedication made her a beloved figure in her community.

Virginia’s life was a quilt-work of love, creativity, and service. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her artistic talents, and her unwavering devotion to her family and faith.

Virginia Schneider will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her family and loved ones anxiously await the resurrection promise found in Job 14:13-15, and elsewhere in God's word.

Kevin Alejandro Rodriguez, 24, died June 17, 2024. &nbsp;He was born November 1, 1999, in Newton, to Kevin and Jamie Jean (Grow) Rodriguez.

Kevin graduated Hutchinson High School in 2017. &nbsp;He was the proud owner of KROD Tree &amp; Landscaping. &nbsp;Kevin enjoyed music of all genres, with country music as his favorite. &nbsp;In addition, he enjoyed reading poetry of Edgar Allan Poe, playing his guitar, working with his Milwaukee tools, and exercising. &nbsp;

Kevin had endless love to give, constant encouragement, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. &nbsp;He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. &nbsp; This past year, Kevin worked harder than ever to create and grow his company, KROD Tree &amp; Landscaping, which he took great pride in owning. &nbsp;There were three places where you could find Kevin, the gym, with his family, or up a tree. &nbsp;

Kevin is survived by: &nbsp;his father, Kevin Rodriguez (Angie); mother, Jamie Grow (Chris); sister, Novalie Baker (Austin), all of Hutchinson; brother, Christian Rodriguez (Savannah) of Virginia; grandparents, Francisco Rodriguez, Irene Soto, Deborah and Jim Grow; beloved niece, Wrenley Baker, all of Hutchinson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

Robert Alan “Bob” Graves, 84, of Hutchinson, and of many names and even more accomplishments, passed away on June 17, 2024. He was born February 11, 1940, in Salina, the heart of Kansas, to Harold “Bill” and Dorothy (Snider) Graves.

Bob’s journey was marked by resilience, drive, success, wit, and a passion for community. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1959, Emporia State University in 1963, received a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Wichita State University in 1965, and was a PhD candidate at Wichita State University. Bob would call himself a “home builder,” but that only scratched the surface. He was also a high school chemistry teacher; plant manager at Superior Boiler; Lead Chemist at Barton Salt, board member of Graves Brothers Oil and RAG Industries; owner of Graves Builders, Graves Pool and Patio, Westside Autos, Bob Graves Excavating and Construction, Graves Roll-offs, Graves Enterprises; and an executive on St. Elizabeth’s Square Homeowners Association board.

Other notable achievements include: founding member of Radicals Car Club in high school; President of Hutchinson Home Builders Association, during which he oversaw the construction and donation of the Home Builders shelter in Carey Park; Central Distributor of Sea Blue HTH pool products and participated in the design and construction of Fun Valley water park; dirt track racecar driver; AHRA drag racer; Hot Rod-er; instrument-rated private pilot; member of Central Kansas Landlords Association, Prairie Pups Motorcycle Club; Salt City Cruisers Club; Hutchinson Moose Lodge #982; and Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corps.

Bob went by many nicknames to his friends and family, including “Bob,” “Bobby Boy,” “Bobcat,” “Bob the Builder” and “SpongeBob.” He often downplayed his expertise, abilities, and achievements. At times Bob would tell people at conferences where he was speaking that he was not really supposed to be there, but came for the free buffet, and that he was a proud ditch digger from Puckerbrush, KS, all while wearing a $100 bill as a bow tie.

Bob was quick with a joke or serious advices. He was a shrewd negotiator and businessman, but was always willing to invest in people and causes he saw potential in. Bob had an aptitude for all things mechanical and could fix almost anything. He loved watching NASCAR in person, and later in life on TV, and was a fan of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Bob also loved to travel in his private plane. He loved vacation spots in Hawaii, Alaska, Cancun, and Bermuda.

Through his businesses, Bob supported multiple philanthropic causes, including: Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, multiple local youth and adult sports teams, local stock car racers, and Hobart-Detter field, where his father coached youth baseball.

Bob was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Patricia Friesen; and wives, Betty (Hiebert) Greever and Barbara (Snellings) Graves.

He is survived by: his sons, William Graves, Jon David Graves and wife Amy, M.L. Snellings and wife Dana; daughter, Kathy Graves-Speir and husband Bryan; grandchildren, Robert Graves II, Brock Stewart, Tyler Speir, Theoren Speir, Lauren Paige Speir, Isaac Speir, Grayson Graves, Campbell Graves, Jenesis Gorgas, Jenna Dooley, Colton Adams, Dakota Adams; 6 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. Alfred ‘Charlie’ Elmer Buck, died June 18, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;He was born January 13, 1941, in Hutchinson, KS, to Albert McKinnley Buck and Oleta Faye (Hamblin) Buck.

Charlie was a 1959 graduate of Partridge High School, Partridge, KS, and attended Hutchinson Community College. &nbsp;He was the president of Buck Roofing Inc., formerly AB Roofing, for 34 years.

On June 26, 1964, Charlie married Charlene Cheryl Brown at Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 59 years of marriage, prior to her death on October 25, 2023.

Charlie is survived by: his sons, Mark (Karla) Buck and John Buck, both of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren, Sara (Adam) Brenton, Blake Buck, and Mariah Buck; great-grandchildren, Teagan Buck, Bretley Buck, and Ethen Logan; and sisters, Lorraine (Dave) Warnken of Hutchinson, KS, and Connie (Kenneth) Wise of Oklahoma.

Robert Dale Arnold, 79, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at his home. He was born on December 31, 1944 in Montrose, Pennsylvania to Lloyd Edward and Susan Aleta (Schmoll) Arnold. Robert married the love of his life, Joyce Alfreda (Thompson) Arnold on November 22, 1969 at Pratt Friends Church. They were married for 43 years before she preceded him in death on August 5, 2013.

Robert graduated from Montrose High School in 1963. During high school he was a proud member of the FFA. He held numerous jobs in his life, working on farms and driving his semi were his passion. He got the best of both when he became employed by the Kanza Coop in Iuka, Kansas. He worked for them until he retired in 2014. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, country cruising checking out different farms, CB Radio Club and playing cards and dominoes.

He is survived by his daughters, Carla Arnold of Concordia and Darla (Danny) Gossman of Pratt; grandsons, Harley Harris and Colton Gossman both of Pratt; granddaughter, Chelssy Fox of Albany, New York; daughter by choice, Julie Yancheck of Pratt; sister, Phyllis Valentine-Valenza of Port St. Lucie, Florida; brothers, Carlton Arnold and Jerry Arnold both of Wichita; and several great-grandchildren.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Arnold; brother, Raymond Arnold; granddaughter, Harley Williams; nephews, Ellis Johnson and Tom Arnold; brother in-law, Kenny Johnson; and sister in-law, Judy Johnson.

Darrel Keith Cornelius, 77, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Wesley Woodlawn. He was born on October 18, 1946 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Keith Dare and Ruth Ella (Stambaugh) Cornelius. Darrel married Jacqueline (White) Cornelius on December 20, 1969 in Tyrone, Oklahoma. They were married for 54 years.

Darrel graduated from Arapaho High School in 1964. He went to Oklahoma State Institute of Technology, Okmulge. He served two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief for the United States Army. He worked as a 2nd Lieutenant for Kansas Highway Patrol. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed going shooting, woodworking, coin collecting, fishing, attending ball games and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie of Pratt; children, Melisa Allen of Pratt, Roger Cornelius of Park City and Daren Cornelius of Manhattan; sisters, Linda Campbell of Pratt, Barbara (Marvin) Ramsey of Grove, Oklahoma, Karen (Russ) Eck of Pratt and Janie (Dave) Bishop of Pratt; granddaughters, Chere (Johnathan) Nash of Park City and Brandi (BJ) Dean of Pratt; and great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Rylan, Penley and Jolie.

Darrel is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven Cornelius.

Beverly Marie was born August 23, 1944. Her mother Marie Bottoms Littleton and step father Jessie Littleton preceded her in death. &nbsp;She attended primary school in Wichita Kansas and went on to attend the Job Corps in Cleveland, Ohio.

Beverly moved to Denver Colorado where she married Sylvester Lee. &nbsp;She worked and retired from Mountain Bell Telephone and also Western Electric. She later moved to Long Beach, California where she became a Certified Nurse Assistant and worked for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and gained a second retirement.

Beverly’s wandering spirit lead her back to Wichita Kansas in her later years. &nbsp;She spent her days visiting with friends and family. &nbsp;She enjoyed intimate dinners and had great sense of humor. Everyone who knew her saw her sense of fashion and style.

She was preceded in death by her only son Brian Tillman, two brothers Marshall Hubbard and Richard Bottoms.

She leaves to mourn her grandson Eric Tillman Carter, one brother Jerry Littleton (Yvonne) of Las Vegas, NV and one sister Darlene Groves of Rio Hondo, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside will be held Monday, July 8, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Wichita, Kansas.

Stephen J. “Steve” Kendall, 71, died June 15, 2024. He was born April 17, 1953, at the Pratt County Hospital, to Joseph O. and June L. (Glenn) Kendall.

Steve grew up on a farm south of Haviland. He graduated from Haviland High School in 1971. Steve married Sheri Cutright on June 16, 1973. They had two sons. Steve worked for Consolidated Freightway for almost 30 years until they closed in 2002. He then worked for the DMV in Wichita as a CDL examiner. In 2010, Steve started a new program, training new drivers to get their CDL license. He competed in many State Truck Driving Championships, winning 1st place, five times allowing him to compete in the National Championships.&nbsp;

Steve was the KMCA Safety Professional of the Year in 2015. He was a Boy Scout Leader for troop 306, and was a member of the Central Kansas Gun Club.

Steve is survived by: his wife of over 50 years, Sheri; sons, Jeremy (Melissa) Kendall of Edmond, OK, Andrew (Kimberly) Kendall of Park City; grandchildren, Maci and Hudson Kendall of Edmond, OK; mother in-law, Vera Cutright of Hutchinson; siblings, Joe Kendall of Texas, Richard Kendall and Dan Kendall, both of Pratt, and Susie (Don) Glazer of Texas.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Mary Jenkinson; and brother in-law, Jerry Jenkinson.

Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service has been planned. Burial will take place at a later date in Haviland Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Bonita Esau, 84, went to be with Jesus on June 15, 2024, while at her home in Newton, Kansas. She was born on February 13, 1940, in Walnut, Kansas, to Jasper Leo and Lola (Balla) Dougan.&nbsp;

During her early elementary years her family moved from Walnut to Dodge City, Kansas, eventually moving to Newton where she graduated from Newton High School.

On January 31, 1958, she married Merlin Esau in Newton, Kansas. They celebrated 66 years of marriage this year.

She was a member of Bible Baptist Church and later Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton. She was involved in many activities and ministries but supporting missions and missionaries was especially close to her heart.

Bonita was an outgoing person who loved to be around her friends and family and serve where she could. Above all else she loved creating a happy home for her husband and three children.

Over the years she held several jobs in the community, working as a medical office receptionist, administrative secretary at the former Youthville, and opening a gift shop and balloon bouquet store.

She is survived by her husband, Merlin; son Gary (Karen) Esau; daughters Deborah (Bill) Chase, and Karen (Mark) Ward; sisters Mary Ann Massengill and Lois (Larry) McLain.

She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Bonita is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Earleen Dougan; and her brother Ronald Dougan.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2024, at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2024, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton with Pastor Austin Reser presiding.

Richard E. “Tex” Shirley Sr., age 84, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, June 13, 2024 in Newton, Kansas while receiving hospice care services at the Kansas Christian Home. 

Richard was born to parents O. L. Shirley and Cora Mae (Martin) Shirley in Henderson, TX in January 1940. He grew up in western Texas and graduated from Levelland High School in 1958, after which he followed in his older brother’s footsteps by enlisting as a musician in the US Navy. 

Richard was introduced to his first wife, Jane (Shaver) Shirley, by her brother, George Shaver, while the two were stationed together at the Army/Navy School of Music in Norfolk, VA. Richard and Jane married in 1961. Following the birth of their daughter in 1962, Richard was honorably discharged from active duty to the Navy Reserves and pursued degrees in Music Education at Bowling Green State University. The summer of 1966 marked Richard’s completion of his undergraduate studies; the birth of his second child, a son; and the beginning of his instrumental music teaching career in public school systems in the State of Ohio. He completed the newly offered Master of Music Education program through the College of Musical arts at BGSU in 1970 while continuing to teach. During the course of their marriage, Richard and Jane were both active in church music and church leadership. &nbsp;He also began teaching music to their children, beginning at very young ages. Richard and Jane divorced in 1989.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Richard continued teaching, and went on to marry his second wife, Betty J. (Appleby) Hughes Shirley, in 1990. After 25 years of teaching music in Ohio public schools, Richard retired from the Mad River/Riverside school district. He then continued his career as a music educator, teaching military dependents in Department of Defense schools overseas. &nbsp;He and Betty served in Korea and then Spain for a total of 10 more years. Richard received his preferred nickname “Tex” from Betty during that time period, because of his deep love for his Texas heritage. Finishing his time with the DOD schools, Richard and Betty retired to Kettering, OH in 2002. At the time of Betty’s death in 2021, they had been together for more than 30 years.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Richard was very proud to have served in the US Navy. He had a life-long love of music and dancing, which included very eclectic and diverse tastes in genres and styles, with memberships in the Dayton Mandolin Orchestra and the Dayton Ballroom/Swing Dance Club. Having been a member of the Dayton Chess Club for many years, Richard enjoyed playing chess and other activities that involved strategic planning and problem-solving. He also held great love for his family members and friends.&nbsp;

Richard was preceded in death by his parents O. L. Shirley and Cora M. Shirley; his siblings John Charles Shirley (1945-1994), Patricia Shirley Wisenbaker (1935-2010), Polly Shirley Gentry (1943-2015) and Oliver Lewis Shirley Jr. (1937-2017); by his granddaughters Mercy Noel Shirley (2002), and Rachael Erryn Shirley (1992-2015).&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Richard is survived by his first wife, Jane Shirley; his children Giovanna S. McQuillen (m. Mark Schnabel) and Richard E. Shirley Jr. (Rick, m. Dawn M. Shirley); grandchildren Jordan L. Salmen (m. Marius Salmen), Abigail R. Goins (m. Micajah Goins), Emily E. Shirley, Joshua A. Shirley, and Grace A. Shirley; great-grandchildren Kyra S. Salmen and Priya S. Salmen; sisters Shirley A. Parr, Linda M. Saberi, and Glenda J. M. Shirley; along with many nieces and nephews.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

She was born on January 26, 1965 in Medicine Lodge, KS, the daughter of Jack D. Swonger and Frances K. (Pelzl) Swonger Land.

Jacqueline was a loving mother and grandmother who was Catholic by faith.

Surviving are her mother, Frances Land of Medicine Lodge, KS; two sons, Cody (Lindsay) Waller of Madill, OK and their children, Connor, Caylee, Cole and Cara and Jaden (Lanie) Wood of Cheney, KS and their children, Jenna and James; one sister, Renee (Rob) Paxson of Medicine Lodge, KS; three nephews, Tanner (Jordan) Paxson of Yukon, OK, Trenton (Makaila) Paxson of Medicine Lodge, KS and Taylor (Meghan) Paxson of Yukon, OK; six great nieces and nephews, as well as a close-knit group of cousins.
