Lloyd Clarence Erickson, 79, of Roxbury, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Angel Arms, McPherson.&nbsp; He was a retired farmer and also deputy sheriff for the McPherson County Sheriff Department.

Lloyd was born on February 20, 1945, in Lindsborg, KS, the son of Clarence and Geneva (Anderson) Erickson.&nbsp; He graduated from Roxbury High School.&nbsp; He served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.

On January 21, 1971, Lloyd was united in marriage to Barbara Lee Lawson in Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp; They were married for 39 years prior to Barbara’s passing on October 16, 2010.

He was a member of the Roxbury United Parish.

Survivors include his two sons, David Blosser of McPherson, KS and Kevin Erickson of Roxbury, KS; a grandson, Dylan Blosser of McPherson, KS; siblings, Leland (Anna) Erickson of Roxbury, KS, Helen (Dennis) Moennich of McPherson, KS, Larry Erickson of McPherson, KS, Darlene Nelson of Mt. Hope, KS, and Lauren Erickson of Lindsborg, KS; and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 10, at Roxbury United Parish, Roxbury with Rev. Libby Themis officiating.&nbsp; Burial with Military Honors will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.

Judy (Koehn) Pauls, 77, of Hutchinson, Kansas passed away on 24 May, 2024 at Sunshine Meadows in Buhler, Kansas.

Judy was born 2 November 1946 to Elton Simon Koehn and Martha J (Wedel) Koehn in Newton, Kansas; they preceded her in death. &nbsp;She graduated from Halstead High School in 1964, attended Marymount College for one year, then completed her Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education at Wichita State University. &nbsp;She married Roger Pauls on 23 December 1966; he preceded her in death. &nbsp;They are survived by one daughter, Jennifer Pauls (Bryce Kuhlman) of Gilbert, Arizona. &nbsp;She is also survived by her sister Kathy Koehn (Mick Groom), brothers Steve Koehn (Jodi Koehn) and Rob Koehn (Carol Koehn), nieces Jesse (Josh), Leah, Emily (Zach), &amp; Karli (Jason), six great-nephews, and a great-niece. &nbsp;Judy later entered into a committed relationship with Steven Howell; he survives her as does his mother Marge (his father Mel preceded her in death), son Jeff (Kaylee) &amp; granddaughter Audrey. &nbsp;

After graduation, Judy started her career teaching Special Education at Sunflower School. &nbsp;Soon after, she was hired to teach fourth grade at Moundridge Elementary School. &nbsp;Two years later, she got the opportunity she had been waiting for, teaching first graders, and she jumped at it. &nbsp;“Mrs. Pauls” loved her students and enjoyed watching them grow up and teaching their children. &nbsp;

In 1980, she and Roger bought 80 acres of land in the Sand Hills outside of Burrton and designed &amp; built their dream home. &nbsp;They had a pond, wild blackberries, and a large garden that produced huge harvests that Judy cooked, canned, froze, and shared with family and friends. &nbsp;With room for a big dining table, Judy took over hosting holiday meals for the extended family. &nbsp;She was an excellent cook, known for her butterhorn rolls (recipe from Martha Koehn), tomato tart (recipe from Martha Stewart), and many other tasty dishes. &nbsp;She shared the love and supported her daughter’s (and other family members’) cooking habits with many gifts of quality tools, cookbooks, and sage advice.

Judy was a master of needlepoint and other crafts. &nbsp;Christmas was definitely her favorite holiday and she stitched &amp; crafted countless ornaments/decorations to fill her home and give away.

Roger, the first love of her life, died unexpectedly in 1985.

A few years later, Judy met Steve Howell, the second love of her life. &nbsp;She took a sabbatical from teaching and then early retirement as they transitioned to living in Bella Vista, AR. &nbsp;There, they enjoyed making new friends, golfing, and time on the water. &nbsp;

They moved to Hutchinson in 2005 to be closer to family. &nbsp;Judy and her sister enjoyed taking cooking classes at the Cook’s Nook, eating out, and planning menus for the big holiday get-togethers that she happily resumed hosting. &nbsp;Every summer she would corral the family into coming over and helping “put up corn.” &nbsp;They’d get twelve dozen ears and everyone would help shuck, strip, and pack the corn into bags, frozen for Thanksgiving, Christmas &amp; Easter.

When her parents passed, she and Kathy spent a year preparing for their estate sale - meticulously going through the house. &nbsp;It was an emotional time, made easier because they were sisters. &nbsp;

Though she didn’t have students anymore (or grandchildren… sorry, Mom) she had a special place in her heart for her local grand-nephews (Henry, Luke, Sam, Quenton, &amp; Lincoln) and loved seeing them &amp; planning special treats when they visited. &nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at First Mennonite Church of Christian, 719 S. Christian Avenue, Moundridge. &nbsp;Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;

Monique M. Ratzlaff, 84, died June 3, 2024, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born in Rousset, A’Con, Eure-Normandy, France, to Maurice and Olga Joffrette (Jaffeux) Dieu.&nbsp;

Monique graduated from a Catholic school in France in 1956. She owned Kitchen Creations in the mall for over 15 years. She later became a cafeteria assistant at Trinity Catholic School. Monique enjoyed bowling, ceramics, stain glass, jewelry, crocheting, and cooking. She collected Pez and Hummel figurines.

She married Elbert A. Hurd in 1956, after meeting in France where Elbert was stationed with the United States Air Force. He died February 9, 1991. On May 7, 1999, she married Larry D. Ratzlaff, in Hutchinson, KS. They shared over 25 years of marriage prior to her death.

Monique is survived by: husband, Larry D. Ratzlaff of Hutchinson; daughters, Patricia (Bradley) Unruh of Hutchinson, Pamela (Mike) Durkin of St. Petersburg, FL; son, Michael (Patricia) Hurd of Bartlesville, OK; grandchildren, Cheryl (Jeremy) Gonsalves of Hutchinson, Wesley (Kadrian) Hurd of Bartlesville, OK, Jordan Roth of Hutchinson, Hunter Baker of St. Petersburg FL, and Monique (Eric Heller) Jones of Bartlesville, OK; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Yvette Siour, Andrée Stephan, and Mary-Therese Messager, all of France; stepsons, Anthony (Susie) Ratzlaff, and Joseph (Jess) Ratzlaff, both of Hutchinson; daughter in-law, Vickie Hurd of Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews.

Vera Nadine Graber, 81, of South Hutchinson, died on June 3, 2024, at The Arbors-Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born on May 28, 1943, at the home of her parents Willard and Della Goering Wedel in Pretty Prairie.

Vera graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1961 and Hutchinson Junior College in 1963. &nbsp;On July 19, 1963, she married Gary Graber at the Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church. &nbsp;They moved to Manhattan where Gary finished his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, while Vera worked for the K-State Agronomy department. &nbsp;In 1966 the family moved to Nickerson. &nbsp;Vera was a homemaker until 1974 when she was hired by the Nickerson Bank. She retired from the bank in 1998.

Vera thoroughly loved gardening and cared for many plants in her backyard greenhouse. &nbsp;She enjoyed cooking and other crafts such as sewing, counted cross-stitch and painting. &nbsp;She won a blue ribbon at the Kansas State Fair for her painting of a barn. &nbsp;Vera was also helpful when Gary was restoring and showing vintage cars.

She is survived by: husband, Gary; son Darin (Andrea Pischnotte) Graber of South Jordan, UT; daughter, Joni (Scott) Oakes of Oklahoma City, OK; son Mike (Angela) Graber of Hoschton, GA; and grandchildren, Landon and Macie Graber.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alice Graber; and brother, Glen Wedel.

Vera Nadine Graber |1943-2024|

Evelyn Jane Goering Lehman was born January 17, 1929, at a farm in McPherson County, Kansas, to Adina and Christian B. Goering. She was the youngest of nine children. When she was eight, her father sold the farm and bought one five miles east of Newton, Kansas, so her brothers, who were ready for college, could drive to Bethel College each day. Evelyn attended Sunnyside Grade School and Walton Grade School, graduating from eighth grade there. She attended Newton High School in her freshman year, transferring to Mennonite Bible Academy on the college campus for the remainder of her high school studies. In her senior year, she also enrolled at Bethel as a freshman, graduating from the academy and finishing her freshman year in 1946. She graduated from Bethel College with a music education degree in 1949. While a student at Bethel, she met Ralph Lehman, and they married in June of 1949.

Ralph and Evelyn served as directors of a voluntary service unit at Topeka State Hospital in their first year, and after that, Evelyn taught vocal music in Washington, Kansas grade and high schools. Following that experience, they moved to Denver, Colorado, where Ralph entered graduate school. Their sons, Joseph Michael and Ralph Stephen, were born in Denver. They moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, after Ralph secured a position as clinical director of the state hospital there. Later they moved to Smithfield, Ohio, when Ralph was recruited to work at Boy’s Village. Their daughter Christine Ann was born there. Later they moved to Wadsworth, Ohio, when Ralph took a position as director of social services at Summit County Family Services in Akron. Daughter Mary Jolene was born in Wadsworth.

The family moved again in 1968 to the St. Louis area when Ralph became CEO of Edgewood Children’s Center. There, Evelyn embarked on a teaching career and completed graduate studies in early childhood education at Webster University. She taught Kindergarten in the Webster Groves School District for 21 years. During those years, desegregation efforts began, and Evelyn codirected an organization called Bridging the Gap, which recruited public school kindergarten teachers and preschool directors to facilitate the changes. The organization provided parents with lectures on child development curriculum and answered their questions. The lectures were led by professors in early childhood education from local universities. During her 21 years of teaching, she mentored 16 student teachers, many of whom became good friends through the following years.

Evelyn and Ralph retired in 1989. They volunteered at Koinonia Farms in Georgia, travelled abroad to Europe, South America, and Asia, and visited all provinces in Canada and all 50 states. They moved to North Newton in 1992 and enjoyed retirement at Kidron Bethel since 2005. Evelyn volunteered at the Etcetera Shop and Kauffman Museum as well as serving in various capacities at Bethel College Mennonite Church.

Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; five sisters, Elizabeth Wedel, Amanda Goering, Ann Waltner, Melita Goering, and Luella Stahly; three brothers, Erwin, Eldon, and Jacob Goering; and husband, Ralph. She is survived by her children and their spouses J. Michael and Kathleen Lehman, R. Stephen Lehman and Kathleen Childers, Christine Lehman, and Mary Lehman Neal and Paul Neal, along with 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

 </figure>Evelyn Jane Goering Lehman was born January 17, 1929, at a farm in McPherson County, Kansas, to Adina and Christian B. Goering. She was the youngest of nine children. When she was eight, her father sold the farm and bought one five miles east of Newton, Kansas, so her brothers, who were ready for college, could drive to Bethel College each day. Evelyn attended Sunnyside Grade School and Walton Grade School, graduating from eighth grade there. She attended Newton High School in her freshman year, transferring to Mennonite Bible Academy on the college campus for the remainder of her high school studies. In her senior year, she also enrolled at Bethel as a freshman, graduating from the academy and finishing her freshman year in 1946. She graduated from Bethel College with a music education degree in 1949. While a student at Bethel, she met Ralph Lehman, and they married in June of 1949.Ralph and Evelyn served as directors of a voluntary service unit at Topeka State Hospital in their first year, and after that, Evelyn taught vocal music in Washington, Kansas grade and high schools. Following that experience, they moved to Denver, Colorado, where Ralph entered graduate school. Their sons, Joseph Michael and Ralph Stephen, were born in Denver. They moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, after Ralph secured a position as clinical director of the state hospital there. Later they moved to Smithfield, Ohio, when Ralph was recruited to work at Boy’s Village. Their daughter Christine Ann was born there. Later they moved to Wadsworth, Ohio, when Ralph took a position as director of social services at Summit County Family Services in Akron. Daughter Mary Jolene was born in Wadsworth.The family moved again in 1968 to the St. Louis area when Ralph became CEO of Edgewood Children’s Center. There, Evelyn embarked on a teaching career and completed graduate studies in early childhood education at Webster University. She taught Kindergarten in the Webster Groves School District for 21 years. During those years, desegregation efforts began, and Evelyn codirected an organization called Bridging the Gap, which recruited public school kindergarten teachers and preschool directors to facilitate the changes. The organization provided parents with lectures on child development curriculum and answered their questions. The lectures were led by professors in early childhood education from local universities. During her 21 years of teaching, she mentored 16 student teachers, many of whom became good friends through the following years.Evelyn and Ralph retired in 1989. They volunteered at Koinonia Farms in Georgia, travelled abroad to Europe, South America, and Asia, and visited all provinces in Canada and all 50 states. They moved to North Newton in 1992 and enjoyed retirement at Kidron Bethel since 2005. Evelyn volunteered at the Etcetera Shop and Kauffman Museum as well as serving in various capacities at Bethel College Mennonite Church.Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; five sisters, Elizabeth Wedel, Amanda Goering, Ann Waltner, Melita Goering, and Luella Stahly; three brothers, Erwin, Eldon, and Jacob Goering; and husband, Ralph. She is survived by her children and their spouses J. Michael and Kathleen Lehman, R. State Representative Leslie “Les” Ray Mason of McPherson, Kansas died Monday, June 3, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita at the age of 69.

Les was born on October 11, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His parents, Gertrude and Reverend Floyd Mason, moved to Nebraska and later McPherson, Kansas where Les spent most of his childhood.

Les was a graduate of McPherson High School in 1972 and Central Christian College of McPherson in 1974 with a degree in business and marketing. He married Kala Ann Archer on April 3, 1976. They had 3 children, Christopher, Jennifer, and Angela. He initially worked at Green’s Furniture in McPherson and later for W.R. Mill in McPherson as a sales manager. He left WR Mill to start a home-based business, Mason Marketing. This later became The Old Muffin Factory. The company made muffin and pancake mixes that were shipped all over the country. Les and Kala operated a retail store, The Old Muffin Factory, in McPherson for several years. The store closed in 2008 as they transitioned back to shipping the mixes before their retirement in 2018 due to Kala’s cancer. Les and Kala were married for 44 years before Kala lost her battle with cancer in April 2020.

Les met Victoria Runco Paluck in 2020, and they were married on September 3, 2022. The two loved to travel together and spend time in McPherson and Topeka, Kansas, Castle Rock, CO and Scottsdale, Arizona. They had the opportunity to travel to Taiwan together with other members of the Kansas legislature in October 2023. They also enjoyed spending time with friends and family and camping at Kanopolis Lake.&nbsp; They especially enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and attending their school and sport activities.

Les has been active in the McPherson community as a member of the Kiwanis Club in McPherson, Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way Board. Les was a member of Dick Nichols' campaign for Congress in 1990. Les has been a Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives for the 73rd district since 2014. He has served many roles in the House, most recently as Mentor of Freshman members of the House, the House Assistant Majority Leader, and Chair of the Social Services Budget Committee.

He is preceded in death by his late wife, Kala Mason. He is survived by his wife Victoria, his son Christopher (wife Brooke, son Cole) of Hutchinson, KS, daughter Jennifer of McPherson, KS and daughter Angela Brunk (husband Jesse, daughter Danica) of McPherson, KS; Stepson Ryan Paluck (wife Kyla, sons Korbin and Kash). He is also survived by his brother David Mason (wife Peggie).&nbsp;

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, June 10, 2024, at Countryside Covenant Church, 940 E. Northview Ave., McPherson.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 11, at Countryside Covenant Church with Rev. Jon Black officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Karen Sue (Barstow) Liby, of Hutchinson, Kansas, was a loving mother and grandmother and a loyal sister and friend. Karen passed away peacefully in her home on June 2, 2024 at the age of 80, surrounded by loved ones. She was a devoted mother to her children: Curt Liby, of Andover, Kansas, Jamie Bleything, of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Justin (Kara) Liby, of Leawood Kansas. She is survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Karen was born to Waldo and Mary (Freeman) Barstow on November 7, 1943 in Great Bend, Kansas and was one of six sisters: Sally (Gene) Mace, of Peoria, Illinois, Katie (Wes) Reazin, of Hutchinson, Helen (Donald) Douglas, of Sharon Springs, Kansas, Vicki Leiker, of Wallace, Kansas, and Janie (Dick) Russell, of Hutchinson.

Karen was raised in the Wallace County ranching and farming community of Sharon Springs, Kansas. Her parents owned a cattle ranch southwest of town. She graduated from Wallace County High School in 1961. She worked a variety of jobs in her lifetime including as a police dispatcher and meter maid in Great Bend. She held several secretarial positions. Later in her life, Karen felt a calling to enter the nursing profession. She became an RN and worked at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas, for most of her career.

Karen had numerous interests and hobbies throughout her life. She had a real estate agent license and a pilot’s license. She had a knack for tastefully renovating and decorating her homes. Karen enjoyed working in her flower gardens and maintaining her lawn. Walking, reading Western novels, and listening to music were some of her other favorite activities. She was an excellent cook. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday and she prepared delicious dinners for her family.

She is survived by: her three children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, four sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by: her parents, and sister, Helen.

Karen will be honored at a private Celebration of Life and will rest next to her parents at the Sharon Springs Cemetery.

Darwin Laray Bryant, 70, passed away on May 31 in Ellinwood, KS. Darwin was born in Ellinwood, KS on October 19, 1953 to parents Oliver Bryant Jr. &amp; Patricia Joelene (Cossman) Bryant. 

A lifetime Ellinwood resident he graduated from Ellinwood High in 1971. Darwin was a diesel mechanic where he owned and managed a successful repair business south of Ellinwood. A gifted mechanic Darwin was a car and boat enthusiast and even had a boat that ran on diesel fuel. Growing up Darwin spent many weekends at Wilson Lake boating, waterskiing, knee boarding, and time with family.

Survivors include mother, Patricia Joelene Bryant; sons, Jason and wife Sara Bryant and Chad Bryant and fiancee Melissa; sister, Sandra Bryant; grandchildren, Kiley Kaylee, Olivia, &amp; Makynna Bryant and best little dog Budder. Darwin was preceded in death by his father Oliver Bryant Jr.

Memorial service will take place 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 8th at Ellinwood Community Church with Pastor Sam Ryan officiating. Inurnment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, KS.

On May 18, 2024, Ernesto Ayson Ramirez passed away at his home in Hutchinson, KS. He was born October 7, 1940, in San Esteban, Ilocos Sur, to Loreto and Irene (Ayson) Ramirez.

On October 28, 1961, he married the love of his life, Donna Jean Brock.

Before moving to Hutchinson to be closer to family, Ernesto lived in Kaneohe, HI, where he was co-owner of Honolulu Painting Company. He was an artist who enjoyed building, drawing and painting, but his main hobby was taking care of his chickens. Ernesto loved to tinker and always found the most creative and efficient ways to do things. He enjoyed passing along his knowledge and sharing his little tricks with his children and grandchildren. “It's only easy” he would say as he prepared to teach you something new.

Ernesto is survived by: his wife of almost 63 years, Donna Ramirez of Hutchinson, KS; children, Laurie Barrozo, Ernest Ramirez (Cheriene), Dennis Ramirez (Angel), all of Hutchinson, KS, Teresa Ramirez (Rob) of Kailua, HI, and Ricky Ramirez of Hutchinson, KS; brother, Wilson Ramirez (Shirley) of Kahalu'u, HI; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Norman Ramirez; sister, Josephine Reyes; and son-in-law, Earnest “Flash” Darrington.

Ernesto Ayson Ramirez |1940-2024|

Merle F. Binder, 86, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the McPherson Hospital.&nbsp;

Merle was born on September 15, 1937, in Oak Hill, KS, the son of Fredrick T. and Alva L. (Lewis) Binder.&nbsp; He graduated from Longford High School in 1955.&nbsp;

On September 18, 1956, Merle was united in marriage to Noleen June Clark.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children, Mark, Dan, David, and Ronda.&nbsp; Merle and Noleen were married for 63 years prior to her passing on March 6, 2020.

Merle and Noleen established their first home together in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; In 1957, they moved to Wichita, KS until 1959, when they moved back to Longford.&nbsp; In 1966, the family moved to McPherson, KS.&nbsp;

Merle worked at McPherson Coop and then was an area seed salesman for Sommer Brothers Seed Company in Topeka and Rudy Patrick Seed Company in Hutchinson. He retired from Chemstar in McPherson where he was a corn mill operator.&nbsp;

He was a member of the First Christian Church, McPherson.&nbsp;

Survivors include his children, Mark Binder (Cindy) of Garfield, AR, Dan Binder (Fay Ann) of Inman, KS, David Binder of Plano, TX, and Ronda Gilstrap (Douglas) of Wichita, KS; sister, Leona Woellhof of Oak Hill, KS; sister-in-law, Freda Binder of Texas; seven grandchildren, Chad Binder, Justin Binder (Taylor), Jessica Smith (Ty), Mallory Binder, Natalie Binder, Jason Gilstrap (Ashley), and Luke Gilstrap (Megan); nine great-grandchildren, Tinley Gilstrap, Tucker Gilstrap, Tess Gilstrap, Oliver Gilstrap, Nicolas Gilstrap, Shay Smith, Sloan Smith, Charli Jo Binder, and Wade Binder; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

(Lewis) Binder.&nbsp; He graduated from Longford High School in 1955.&nbsp;On September 18, 1956, Merle was united in marriage to Noleen June Clark.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children, Mark, Dan, David, and Ronda.&nbsp; Merle and Noleen were married for 63 years prior to her passing on March 6, 2020.Merle and Noleen established their first home together in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; In 1957, they moved to Wichita, KS until 1959, when they moved back to Longford.&nbsp; In 1966, the family moved to McPherson, KS.&nbsp;Merle worked at McPherson Coop and then was an area seed salesman for Sommer Brothers Seed Company in Topeka and Rudy Patrick Seed Company in Hutchinson. He retired from Chemstar in McPherson where he was a corn mill operator.&nbsp;He was a member of the First Christian Church, McPherson.&nbsp;Survivors include his children, Mark Binder (Cindy) of Garfield, AR, Dan Binder (Fay Ann) of Inman, KS, David Binder of Plano, TX, and Ronda Gilstrap (Douglas) of Wichita, KS; sister, Leona Woellhof of Oak Hill, KS; sister-in-law, Freda Binder of Texas; seven grandchildren, Chad Binder, Justin Binder (Taylor), Jessica Smith (Ty), Mallory Binder, Natalie Binder, Jason Gilstrap (Ashley), and Luke Gilstrap (Megan); nine great-grandchildren, Tinley Gilstrap, Tucker Gilstrap, Tess Gilstrap, Oliver Gilstrap, Nicolas Gilstrap, Shay Smith, Sloan Smith, Charli Jo Binder, and Wade Binder; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Calvin Binder, Ruth Proctor, and Wayne BinderA graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at McPherson Cemetery. Jon Wayne Drouhard, 85, died June 2, 2024, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. &nbsp;He was born March 1, 1939, in Anthony, to Joseph Albert and Pearl Margaret (Blubaugh) Drouhard.

Jon graduated from Harper High School in 1957, and served in the National Guard. He worked as a salesman for Berry Tractor &amp; Equipment Company, in Wichita. &nbsp;Jon also owned “Jon’s Tree Trimming”. &nbsp;After retirement, he would meet his buddies at Applewood Restaurant in South Hutchinson, where they would solve the world’s problems over a cup of coffee. Jon was devout Catholic and a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus #7279. &nbsp;

On August 19, 1960, he married Rita Johanna Becker, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway Springs. &nbsp;

Jon is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of almost 64 years, Rita of Hutchinson; children, Jonelle Yunk (Robert) of Oklahoma; Dalaine Pitts (Rick) of Hutchinson, Jon Douglas Drouhard of Derby, and Craig Drouhard (Cyndie Duncan) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jamie Azar (Marc), Julie Johnson (Jake), Jared Yunk (Sierra), Jessica Self (Mike), Christopher Pitts (Kylie), Amanda Drouhard, Allison Drouhard, and Cale Dattilo; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Karla Chase, Julie Hostetler (Delmar), and Elizabeth Becker (Melvin).

Emil Peterson, Jr., also known as “Bud” or “Pete”, 96, of Papillion, NE and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Brookstone of Papillion.&nbsp; He was a retired truck driver and had worked for over 39 years at Farmland Industries, where he logged over 1.25 million accident-free miles.

He was born June 11, 1927, in McPherson, KS, the son of Emil E. and Effie V. (Lundberg) Peterson.&nbsp; He was a graduate of McPherson High School.

On Aug. 28, 1948, he was united in marriage to Tilly H. Wegener in Hanau, Germany.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Marilyn and Norman. Emil and Tilly were married for 71 years prior to Tilly’s passing on May 30, 2020.

Emil proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force during World War II.&nbsp; A highlight of his military service was taking part in the Berlin Airlift in June of 1948. He was a life member of VFW Post #2715 and was part of the military honors team, providing burial honors to countless deceased veterans.&nbsp; Emil was also a Past Commander of the VFW post.&nbsp; He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.

In his spare time, Emil enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include: a daughter, Marilyn Wieseler (Bob) of Sidney, IA; a daughter-in-law, Joan Peterson of Hidden Springs, ID; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Norman, and a sister, Violet Cobb.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 13, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 14, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Pastor Laura Smith officiating.&nbsp; Burial, with military honors, will be in McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp; Following the burial, there will be a reception at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Donita Hampsten Paulk, of Haven, passed away on June 1, 2024. She was 85. 

Donita was born in her grandmother’s house in Hooker, Oklahoma, the second daughter of Otis and Vesta Hampsten. The family later welcomed three more daughters which created a situation Donita never cared for–she always disliked sharing a bedroom. She grew up on a farm west of Tyrone, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Tyrone High School in 1957. Donita wasn’t cut out for farm life, as the first time she drove a truckload of wheat to the elevator a mouse ran across the floorboards. She stomped on the brake, jumped out of the truck and walked a mile home, telling Daddy that he could drive his own truck. She married Patrick Burton Wright of Liberal, Kansas over Christmas break of her senior year. They moved into a garage apartment in Tyrone while she finished high school. Life with Pat entailed many moves as he worked his way up the ranks with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company. First son Dennis was born in Liberal and second son Bill was born in Greensburg, Kansas. Early on, she received the nickname “D” because she attacked every chore and task with the unflagging, positive energy of a Diesel engine. Other homes included Howell, Michigan; Sedalia, Missouri; Haven, Kansas, Hallsville, Missouri and Centralia, Missouri. The moving company always had an easy job as Donita pre-packed everything to her exact specifications before they ever arrived on site. But she never minded moving as she knew she would make new friends wherever she went. Donita and Pat divorced in 1980, and she stayed in Centralia another ten years while Bill finished high school and college and she worked as a secretary in the international department of A.B. Chance Company. As a member of Centralia Country Club and Haven Golf Club, Donita cultivated her passion for golf and liked nothing better than to try to break 50 while dressed in a coordinated golf outfit with matching shoes, shirt and glove. But never a hat–that might tousle her carefully coiffed hair.

The lure of her three grandchildren brought her back to Haven in 1991, where she met John Paulk while working at the Reno County courthouse. They married in 1996 and enjoyed many happy retirement years together. They traveled many times a year to the log cabin in Cuchara, Colorado that the five Hampsten sisters owned together. Donita was never happier than when family would come together, and laughter and joy filled the cool mountain air. Many memories were made of her vigorously stirring the taco soup with one hand and resting the other on her hip, as the orange jello with mandarin slices cooled in the fridge. She was also a tireless volunteer in Haven at the Church of Christ, the Food Bank, and the Haven Library.

Survivors include husband John Paulk, Haven; son Dennis Wright and wife Carol of Council Grove; son Bill Wright and wife Jen of Brooklyn, New York; grandchildren Jeff and Kristen Wright and their seven children of Council Grove; Max and Brittney Wright and their two children of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Maggie Wright of Council Grove; and Vance Wright of Boulder, Colorado. Sisters Sharon Houseman of Liberal, Kansas; Janice Dorsch of Edmond, Oklahoma; Kathleen and husband David Rutledge of Mustang, Oklahoma; and Carolyn and husband Steve Wischoff of Kerrville, Texas. Stepdaughters Dana and husband Ken Hase of Nickerson, Tonya and husband Kent Mayfield of Halstead and their families also filled a special place in her heart. Step grandchildren includes Brandon (Crystal) Hays, Christine (Jason) John, Dedra (Nathan) Hogan, Zoe Mayfield, Logan Mayfield along with 10 step great grandchildren.

James Neal “Jim” Wagler, 63, went home to glory June 1, 2024, at Mercy Hospital, in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born July 3, 1960, to Charles and Lurlene (Mosier) Wagler, at the Sterling Hospital, Sterling.

Jim was a 1979 graduate of Nickerson High School. &nbsp;He lived and worked on the Wagler farm, near Abbyville, most of his adult life. &nbsp;For six years, Jim lived in Sterling as a full-time caregiver for his father, until his father’s death in 2020. &nbsp;He then lived with his sisters in Oklahoma and Texas, until his recent hospitalization.&nbsp;

Jim accepted Christ as his Savior in 1977, and was baptized and accepted as a member of Sterling Evangelical Bible Church in 1978. &nbsp;He served as a choir member, usher, and faithful attender.

Jim is survived by: &nbsp;brother, Stan (Kathy) Wagler of rural Abbyville; sisters, Susan (Lowell) Entz of Yukon, OK, and Shelly (Baron) Clifford of Shiner, TX; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many cherished nieces and nephews. In 2000, he gained a stepbrother, Todd (Lillian) Zimmerman of rural Sterling and a stepsister, Debra (Atlee) Preheim of Hesston. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

James Neal “Jim” Wagler |1960-2024|

George Thomas Waggoner, also affectionately known as “Daddy Wags,” passed away on June 2, 2024 due to complications from a lung infection following his remission with lung cancer.&nbsp;

George was born on May 8, 1959 to Carl E. and Mabel L. Waggoner from Belle Glade, FL. After the passing of his parents, Theodore P. and Marilyn R. Waggoner of Highland, IL became the guardians of him and his siblings. He graduated from Highland High School (Illinois) in 1977, and went on to play college baseball at Hutchinson Community College. While attending HCC, he met Amy E. Howell and they married on July 25, 1980. &nbsp;They had three children: Carl Rex Waggoner of Hutchinson, KS, Casey Renée Ruzicka (Dave) of Marshfield, MO, and George Calyn Robert Waggoner (Nicole) of Hutchinson, KS. George and Amy also consider Amanda Unruh (Tony) of Kansas as their “other” daughter. Altogether, there are eleven grandchildren: Ashton, Samora, Jacob, Landon, River, Mackenzi, Blaise, Elara, Jordan, Tucker, and Ember.&nbsp;

George believed in the importance of having a great work ethic and highly valued people and customer relationships. His favorite jobs revolved around these ideals. &nbsp;During his life, he enjoyed working as a home siding applicator, a sales and marketing representative for a food brokerage, and co-founding the roofing division of Phoenix Restoration and Roofing (owned by family members, Ryan and Robin Swanson).

George was his grandchildren’s greatest fan in all of their activities and interests! He was always celebrating their achievements and encouraging them. He coached youth basketball and baseball teams, and was also quick to congratulate the successes of any player – anywhere and anytime. He was a member of the Sons of American Legion Post 68 (Hutchinson) and volunteered for over 30 years at the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, serving as the Chairman of the Dressing Room and Equipment Committee. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed sharing his passion for sports with his family. Family get-togethers were HUGE to George, and he loved doing the cooking and trying out new recipes. He also enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and living in the country.

Waggoner, his children and grandchildren, mother-in-law Vicky Swanson (Hutchinson, KS); brothers Blake (Shelby) Waggoner (Durham, NC), Lance Waggoner (Mulberry Grove, IL); sisters Karla (Dave) Anderson (Lisle, IL), Karen (Gordon) Priemer (Bath, OH), Wendy Deibert (Highland, IL), Stormi (Mark) Kidd (Highland, IL) – and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sister-in-law Karla (Tim) Reed (Berryton, KS) and brother-in-law Ryan (Robin) Swanson (Hutchinson, KS).

 </figure>George Thomas Waggoner, also affectionately known as “Daddy Wags,” passed away on June 2, 2024 due to complications from a lung infection following his remission with lung cancer.&nbsp;George was born on May 8, 1959 to Carl E. and Mabel L. Waggoner from Belle Glade, FL. After the passing of his parents, Theodore P. and Marilyn R. Waggoner of Highland, IL became the guardians of him and his siblings. He graduated from Highland High School (Illinois) in 1977, and went on to play college baseball at Hutchinson Community College. While attending HCC, he met Amy E. Howell and they married on July 25, 1980. &nbsp;They had three children: Carl Rex Waggoner of Hutchinson, KS, Casey Renée Ruzicka (Dave) of Marshfield, MO, and George Calyn Robert Waggoner (Nicole) of Hutchinson, KS. George and Amy also consider Amanda Unruh (Tony) of Kansas as their “other” daughter. Altogether, there are eleven grandchildren: Ashton, Samora, Jacob, Landon, River, Mackenzi, Blaise, Elara, Jordan, Tucker, and Ember.&nbsp;George believed in the importance of having a great work ethic and highly valued people and customer relationships. His favorite jobs revolved around these ideals. &nbsp;During his life, he enjoyed working as a home siding applicator, a sales and marketing representative for a food brokerage, and co-founding the roofing division of Phoenix Restoration and Roofing (owned by family members, Ryan and Robin Swanson).George was his grandchildren’s greatest fan in all of their activities and interests! He was always celebrating their achievements and encouraging them. He coached youth basketball and baseball teams, and was also quick to congratulate the successes of any player – anywhere and anytime. George Thomas Waggoner |1959-2024|

Edward Verl Riffel, age 78, passed away May 28, 2024 in Newton KS. He was born in Chapman KS to Verl and Ann Marie (Schroeder) Riffel.

He didn't know a stranger and made everyone feel welcome. He was hard working and liked dabbling in many different things over the years. He managed Walton Coop service station, building construction, had a tree trimming business using a crawler tractor, boot repair store, lawn mower repair business, restaurant, contractor for the railroad and no he didn't do all this at one time. He even sold vehicles on occasion!

He liked building stuff (a handyman), making it bigger and better. He would take a building, house, shed, you name it and improve its usefulness. We believe this was very satisfying to him. When he was not working he spent time on the lake and helping people in the community. He took it upon himself to repaint all the street signs at Marion County Lake (where he presided for some time).

One of his hobbies included Ed's favorite pastime was fishing with his collection of fish poles and lures. Other hobbies/projects included hunting, working on cars in his early years, stain glass making, woodworking, model planes/boats, and raising meat goats.

He saw a need for the 4H youth to show goats, so he started the 4H Goat project and successfully built it into a big part of the livestock show during the county fair, which is still going on today!

As dad got older he began to slow down, but still had the passion and desire to help others - he delivered for Meals On Wheels for a time and enjoyed talking to everyone he delivered to. It was amazing to us his desire to help others. There was a time when a farmer had some health issues and dad went to his farm and helped harvest his wheat crop.

Ed was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by children Mike (Lisa) Riffel, Kurt (Shelly) Riffel, and grandsons Luke and Zach Riffel, his sister Yvonne and nephew Lenny (Tracie), sister Julie and nephews Matt (Mary), Brad (Tabitha), and extended family.

Ed was predeceased in death by his parents and a niece Jennifer.

Michael Lee Ryan. 81, died Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Haven House, Haven, Kansas where he had been a resident for a couple of years.

The son of Rev. Philip E Ryan and Constance R. (Wodell) Ryan, he was born September 26, 1942 in Eugene, Oregon.

His father, mother and brother Delmer preceded him in death.

He was a member of The American Legion. Mike served as a Marine Engineer in the Army for three years. After leaving the Army he became an underwater welder until he had to quit diving. &nbsp; He then became a contractor for fixing heavy machinery.

Mike liked to keep busy; it was hard on him when he was not able to do things.

Robert "Bob" Jones, 77, of Marquette, KS, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS.

Bob was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on February 11, 1947, the son of Leslie and Barbara (Beauchamp) Jones.

Bob graduated from Pitt State University, Pittsburg, KS with his Bachelor's Degree in Social Work.

He was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette, KS.

Bob worked for the State of Kansas for 35 years as a Health Facility Surveyor.

Bob was an avid sports fan, and supported his kids and grandkids in all their activities, and loved spending time with his family.

He was united in marriage to Carol Martin on October 16, 1977 in Marquette. The couple was blessed with the birth of three sons, Adam, Jared and Brady.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Adam (Hannah) Jones of Galva, KS, Jared (Nancy) Jones of Roxbury, KS, and Brady (Jenna) Jones of Smolan, KS; grandchildren, Dallas, Trevor, Hunter, Parker, Maybelle, Josephine and Augustus; sisters, JoAnne Engelland of Paducah, KY and Debbie Smith of Pittsburg, KS.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family burial will take place at Freemount Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Jack L. Craig Sr.,76, of Enterprise passed away Thursday May 30, 2024 in Junction City, Kansas. Jack was born August 17, 1947 in Hutchinson Kansas, the only child of Ernest F. (Pete) Craig and Clemmie Scott Craig.

After Jack graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965, he attended Hutchinson Jr. College followed by Sterling College. While at Sterling, Jack spent two years as a fill-in minister at Abbyville Baptist Church. It was at Sterling College that Jack met Barbara Harms. They were married on June 7, 1970. Jack attended Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City. Jack then took his first charge at First Baptist Church in Chapman, Nebraska. His ordination ceremony was held November 4, 1973. Jack and Barbara began their family in Nebraska with the birth of their first child, Susan, in July 1973, and son Jack Jr. (JL) in October of 1975.

On January 1 of 1978, Jack took his next charge at the First Baptist Church of Enterprise, Kansas. Jack’s youngest son, Scott, was born in Kansas on March of 1980. In addition to his time as a minister, Jack served as a substitute teacher as well as a volunteer firefighter both in Nebraska and in Dickinson County Kansas. In 1994, Jack became Sexton of Mt. Hope cemetery and served in that position until his death. In 1998, Jack retired from ministry in the Baptist Church. Jack and Barbara moved into Enterprise, and Jack then served as custodian of Enterprise Elementary school a position which he held for 19 years. In October of 2001, Jack came out of pastoral retirement and began serving the Solomon Yoked Parish where he served for 10 years.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara. Jack is survived by his daughter Susan and her husband Dr. Todd Frieze of Chapman; his son JL Craig of Enterprise; his son Scott Craig and his wife Samitha of Tacoma, Washington; and grandchildren Emma and Elyssa of Chapman and Haroun and Zaara of Tacoma.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Chapman United Methodist Church, 426 Sheeran Chapman, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, June 21, 2024 at the Chapman United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow the funeral service at Mt. Hope Cemetery south of Enterprise.

Joyce Ann Woodmansee, 71, died June 1, 2024, at her residence in Hutchinson. She was born October 2, 1952, in Hutchinson, to Everett Ira and Goldie Irene (Mahoney) Berends.

Joyce worked as a CNA at Good Samaritan Society in Hutchinson for many years and later retired.

Joyce enjoyed bowling, computer games, crafting and crocheting.

She is survived by: daughters, Ruth Woodmansee, Misty Mackey, Rita Woodmansee; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and son, James Woodmansee.

Raymond Remmers, 79, passed away June 1, 2024 at Salem Home in Hillsboro. 

 He was born June 4, 1944 rural Marion to Edward and Rosa (Schroer) Remmers.  He married Theresa Dirks August 27, 1995 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.  Survivors include: wife, Theresa Remmers of Hillsboro; sons, Kent (Cheryl) Remmers of Lake City, KS, Darcy (Shannon) Wedel of Great Bend, KS; daughters, Kimbra (Marty) Kroupa of Lincolnville, Dana Wedel of Portland, Oregon, Dara Wedel of Fresno, CA; sisters, Vera (John) Wooldridge of Colorado Springs, CO, Joyce (Gary) Mott of Manhattan, KS; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Raymond Remmers, 79, passed away June 1, 2024 at Salem Home in Hillsboro. He was born June 4, 1944 rural Marion to Edward and Rosa (Schroer) Remmers. He married Theresa Dirks August 27, 1995 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Survivors include: wife, Theresa Remmers of Hillsboro; sons, Kent (Cheryl) Remmers of Lake City, KS, Darcy (Shannon) Wedel of Great Bend, KS; daughters, Kimbra (Marty) Kroupa of Lincolnville, Dana Wedel of Portland, Oregon, Dara Wedel of Fresno, CA; sisters, Vera (John) Wooldridge of Colorado Springs, CO, Joyce (Gary) Mott of Manhattan, KS; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his two brothers Howard and Max. Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Friday June 7, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro officiated by Rev. John Werner.
