Donna Mae Nickel, 86, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Moundridge Manor. She was born on January 22, 1938 in Newton, Kansas, to Herby and Elva (Yost) Wenger.

She was a member of the Garden View Mennonite Church in rural Halstead.

She was united in marriage to Jerry Wayne Nickel on February 17, 1963 in Hesston, Kansas. They lived most of their married life on a farm near Burns, Kansas. After retiring, they lived in Jonesboro, Arkansas before moving to Moundridge.

Donna is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jerry Nickel of Moundridge; son, Marlin (Janet) Nickel of Sunray, TX; daughters, Karen (Stewart) Koehn of Burns, and Joan (Galen) Smith of Trumann, AR; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Vernon (Carol) Wenger of Raleigh, NC, and Merle (Lena) Wenger of Newton; sister, Carolyn Wenger of Newton; sister-in-law, Lois Wenger of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Weldon Wenger; and three infant grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2024 at Garden View Mennonite Church, rural Halstead. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, July 18, at the Moundridge Funeral Home, with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Eloise Lorraine Winkelman, 98, died July 15, 2024, in Ellinwood, Kansas. She was born to Nic and Emma Panning Suhler, May 17, 1926, on the family farm east of Ellinwood. She attended the country elementary school and then Ellinwood schools, graduating in 1943. She married Maurice Winkelman on Jan. 18, 1948. He died in January 2012. She was a homemaker, secretary, and quiltmaker. She was a lifetime and active member of St. John Lutheran Church. Survivors include her children, Lois Sierra, Lawrence, Tim and his wife Karen, Great Bend, Monte (Marlana), Sioux City, Iowa; daughter-in-law Jeanette Winkelman, Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, sister-in-law Joan Winkelman, Lenexa; son-in-law Mike Sierra, Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her oldest son Bruce in 2015, her brother Robert Suhler, and sister Waneta Mausolf. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood. Visitation at Minnis Chapel will be from 2-6 PM Thursday, with family present from 6 to 8.

JoAnn (Kasparek) Wilson Roberts, 90, formerly of Alva and Woodward, OK, died July 14, 2024, at Reflection Living, Hutchinson. She was born July 17, 1933, in Alva, OK, to Russell Clarkson and Helen Navora (Snyder) Kasparek.

JoAnn was married to Billy D. Wimmer, Garland Lee Wilson, and Walter Roberts, who all preceded her death.

JoAnn is survived by her children: Billy Wimmer (Sandy) of Freedom, OK, Charley Wimmer of Midland, TX; Larry Wimmer (Debbie) of Mobridge, SD; and Sharry Stauffer-Thompson (Brad) of Hutchinson; sister, Marjorie Holderby; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; granddaughter, Jennifer Lacefield; and stepchildren and step-great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Glenda Jo Arndt and her husband, Leroy; son-in-law, Craig Stauffer; and great-grandson, Clayton Stauffer.

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Alina Aimee Guillen Jones, born September 23, 1957 and at final rest June 29, 2024. She is survived by her husband, Dale, children, William, Melissa, Carina, and Nick, grandchildren, Diego, Julie, Wyatt, Olivia, and Aidan and pets who loved her dearly and will miss her immensely.

Alina was a first generation Cuban-American born in Brooklyn, New York having also lived in California, South Carolina, and Kansas. She was passionate about nature, animals, fantasy, and art. She loved the world as it could be and dreamed of it as it should be. She was an advocate for so much good in the world donating to several charities and spreading awareness for causes close to her heart in the hopes of making a genuine difference.

Alina shared her thoughtful spirit with crocheted keepsakes, stickers on each card, a surprise gift, or a magical story of Red Butler, the Cardinal in her resplendent garden; the imprint of her love was everywhere. She was a talented artist, an eclectic and stylish beauty, and the vibrant colors in all our lives.

She is now at peace having left us to rejoin her parents, Manuel and Ileana Guillen, and her beloved grandmother, Roselia Aquino, in the heavens.

She will never be forgotten as she lives on in our hearts, forever.

Marilyn Joy Adams, 90, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at Parkwood Village in Pratt, Kansas. She was born November 28, 1933 in Cullison, Kansas to Loyd and Mildred (Smith) Rice. Marilyn married Richard Adams on August 23, 1953. They were married for 71 years.

Marilyn graduated Pratt High School in 1952. She worked for &nbsp;the Cullison Co-op until she retired. She then became a bookkeeper for Adams Electric. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and Pilot Club of Cullison, Kansas. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and canasta. She loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by Husband, Richard Adams; Daughters, Christa (Gregory) Smith of Mesa, Arizona and Malia Ward of Pratt; Son, Steven Adams of Syracuse, New York; Sister, Vicki (Richard) Jarboe of Smith Station, Alabama; Grandchildren, Casey Brown, Marshall Brown, Kami (Bryan) Nickelson and Matthew Ward; Great-Grandchildren, Blake Melcher, Cambry Melcher, Mason Melcher and Wylan Betzen.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Priscilla Sue Rice.

Jack Wayne Mathes, 93, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at The Cedars, McPherson, Kansas in the presence of his children. He was born in McPherson, Kansas on March 4, 1931, the first child of Earl and Elvera (Donal) Mathes.

Jack attended Elmdale Elementary in rural School District 22, McPherson, KS, he graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1948, and then attended Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.

Jack met the love of his life at the Peterson’s Skating Rink, McPherson, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Dolores Maxine Wallace on Dec. 28, 1952 in Canton, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together on the family farm in McPherson, Kansas. The couple was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Debra and Sondra.

Jack spent his whole life farming and operated a dairy farm before moving from the family farm to land they owned on old 81 HWY, McPherson, Kansas. In addition while farming, Jack owned and operated Jack’s Digging and Ditching, worked for Femco Manufacturing as production supervisor, and then did finishing work installing flooring and countertops for Jerry Hedberg, Lindsborg, Kansas.

He and Dolores enjoyed traveling and visited many foreign countries and traveling in their motor homes, until they finally became snowbirds in Mission, Texas. He was president of Heart of American Motor Coach Association and Good Sam’s Motorhome Club for several years. Jack was a serious card player, golfer, bowler, and he got a lot of pleasure in his boat and fishing when he could make the time.

Jack got the opportunity to go four-wheeling in Colorado with Brent and his grandsons on the annual Guys Trip for many years. He also traveled to Canada and Tennessee to visit grandkids and great grandkids, as well as spent time with those in McPherson. It was a way for him to share his experiences and stories of his life. Sometimes those stories were heard over and over.

On August 7, 2011, at the age of 80, Jack publicly professed his faith and was baptized by Pastor Lynn Scott at The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), McPherson, Kansas.

He is survived by his children, Debbie (Brent) Sheets of McPherson, KS and Sondra Frank (and her life partner, Rick Versterse) of McPherson, KS; his brother Boyd Mathes (Anne) of Phoenix, AZ.

Jack is also survived by grandchildren: Kimberly (Matt) Veer, Melville, SK Canada, Timothy “TJ” (Lindsay) Dearing, McPherson, KS, Thomas “Tommy” (Amie) Dearing, Maryville, TN, David (Natasha) Frank, McPherson, KS, Charles “Bub” Frank, Ellis, Kansas. Great grandchildren: Garrett Veer, Kendall Veer, Dakota Frank, Kaylee Frank, Trace Dearing, Teague Dearing, Jacqueline Dearing, Olivia Dearing.

Jack was preceeded in death by his parents, wife of 60 years, Dolores, sister FloAnn and son-in-law Charles Frank.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, McPherson, KS 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm with family present.

Memorial Service will be held at the First Christian Church, McPherson, KS with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 11:00 am. Private burial will be held at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, KS, and precede the service. In addition while farming, Jack owned and operated Jack’s Digging and Ditching, worked for Femco Manufacturing as production supervisor, and then did finishing work installing flooring and countertops for Jerry Hedberg, Lindsborg, Kansas.He and Dolores enjoyed traveling and visited many foreign countries and traveling in their motor homes, until they finally became snowbirds in Mission, Texas. He was president of Heart of American Motor Coach Association and Good Sam’s Motorhome Club for several years. Jack was a serious card player, golfer, bowler, and he got a lot of pleasure in his boat and fishing when he could make the time.Jack got the opportunity to go four-wheeling in Colorado with Brent and his grandsons on the annual Guys Trip for many years. He also traveled to Canada and Tennessee to visit grandkids and great grandkids, as well as spent time with those in McPherson. It was a way for him to share his experiences and stories of his life. Sometimes those stories were heard over and over.On August 7, 2011, at the age of 80, Jack publicly professed his faith and was baptized by Pastor Lynn Scott at The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), McPherson, Kansas.He is survived by his children, Debbie (Brent) Sheets of McPherson, KS and Sondra Frank (and her life partner, Rick Versterse) of McPherson, KS; his brother Boyd Mathes (Anne) of Phoenix, AZ.Jack is also survived by grandchildren: Kimberly (Matt) Veer, Melville, SK Canada, Timothy “TJ” (Lindsay) Dearing, McPherson, KS, Thomas “Tommy” (Amie) Dearing, Maryville, TN, David (Natasha) Frank, McPherson, KS, Charles “Bub” Frank, Ellis, Kansas. Wednesday morning, July 10, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center in
Wichita, Kansas. Micheal was born on October 2, 1989, in Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma to Beverly Meadows and Calvin Neal Jr. 


He was known to family and friends as
“Deezy.” Micheal has worked several different jobs in his short
34 years of life. His main love was his kids and his family. The good
times and laughter he brought to everyone will be missed greatly. 


Survivors include four sons, Kason
Schyler of Russel Kansas, Deiondre Meadows, Isiah Meadows and Xavier
Meadows of Hoisington Kansas; three brothers, Marcus Meadows, Calvin

Samuel Stephen Freeman, 68, passed away on July 10, 2024 near Pawnee Rock, KS.&nbsp; Born in Brushy Knob, MO on October 23, 1955 he was the son of Chester &amp; Helen&nbsp;(Lacey)&nbsp;Freeman. Sam was a resident of Ellinwood since 1989 formerly of Hays and Missouri. He married Joan Dechant on July 23, 1984. He worked as a machinist from 1989-2007 at GBI and later was a custom harvester before retiring around 2020. He could fix anything and enjoyed working with his hands from vehicles, construction and raising his gardens. He had a passion collecting antiques of any kind and riding his motorcycles.&nbsp;He would help anyone and knew no strangers.&nbsp;Sam loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was always happy to watch his grandchildren and teach them all he knew.&nbsp; He will be dearly missed.&nbsp;

Stuart Jay Reynolds, 71, died June 24, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. &nbsp;He was born August 13, 1952, in Hutchinson, to Harold Newlin and Lois A. (Brickey) Reynolds.

Stuart graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. &nbsp;He attended the Climate Control Institute in Wichita and received a certificate for Air Conditioning-Heating-Refrigeration Mechanic. &nbsp;Stuart passed the Block &amp; Associates six hour standard examination for Mechanical Journeyman on May 18, 1996. &nbsp;He was a self-employed landlord. &nbsp;Stuart enjoyed acting in plays during high school and at HCC. &nbsp;He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, cooking, and baking. &nbsp;In addition, Stuart collected motorcycles, was a history buff, and enjoyed westerns, action, and military movies.

On July 28, 1990, he married Annie Elizabeth Besthorn, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Stuart is survived by: &nbsp;wife, Annie Reynolds of Hutchinson; daughter, Michelle Reynolds-Estdale (Peter) of Newbury, England; son, Jason Reynolds of Hutchinson; sisters, Sheila Reynolds (Lowell Paul) of Lawrence and Diane Steadman (Larry) of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rozlyn Reynolds.

Cheryl Ann Smyres, 83, of Windom, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Cozy Cottage Senior Living in Wichita.&nbsp;

She was born on May 9, 1941, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Arvid Carl and Laberta “Becky” (Knackstedt) Lindquist. She graduated from Windom High School and later from Brown Mackie Business College.&nbsp;

On May 27, 1962, Cheryl was united in marriage to Michael G. Smyres at the Andover Lutheran Church, and they started their life together; making their dreams of raising children and having a farm become a reality.&nbsp; Mike&nbsp; and Cheryl were married 52 years prior to Mike’s passing on February 12, 2015.&nbsp;

Along with being a farmer’s wife, Cheryl worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance and was also a secretary and janitor at Windom Middle School. The Smyres family attended Andover Lutheran Church, Windom.

Survivors include two children, Shelley (Thomas) Caldarera of Andover, KS and Troy (Kristy) Smyres of Windom, KS; a brother, Arlyn Lindquist (Glenda) of Windom, KS; four grandchildren, Natalie Schekall, David Schekall (Abby), Trevor Smyres (Katherine), and Emily Engelman (Ben); three great-grandchildren, Josephine, Annalyn, and Jett; a nephew, Tyler Lindquist (Nathan Nixion); and a niece, Annette Holland and her daughters, Lauren and Maddie. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Angie was a member of the First Christian Church, Pratt, KS. &nbsp;She enjoyed participating in the activities at Pratt Health and Rehab. &nbsp;She loved to crochet and quilt, with her favorite color being purple.

Surviving in addition to her mother, Sondra Clinesmith of Pratt, KS are three brothers, Daron (Elaine) Clinesmith of El Dorado, KS, Ty (Chris) Clinesmith of Amarillo, TX and Alex Clinesmith of Sahuarita, AZ; one uncle, Ted Clinesmith of Claflin, KS; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Angie was preceded in death by her father and by two aunts, Barbara Trahern and Cheryl Clinesmith and one uncle, Dick Trahern.

Donald Leon Graber, 90, of Hutchinson, died July 12, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born January 24, 1934, in Varner, to Ben A. and Esther V. (Magnuson) Graber.

Don graduated from Partridge High School in 1951 and attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, NE. He served in the United States Army 1956-1958. Don worked as a process engineer at New Holland Equipment in Grand Island, NE, for 19 years, as a missionary with Avant Ministries in Bolivia from 1985-1996, and served at Rio Grande Bible Institute as an associate staff member from 1996-2012. He loved cars and doing mechanic work and playing pool at the Senior Center at Elmdale Park. Don was a member of Berean Baptist Church.

On August 2, 1955, he married Mary L. Lyon in Aurora, NE. She died January 3, 2002. On August 11, 2002, Don married Roberta G. Neir. She died November 8, 2020.

He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy Anderson (Jim) of Charlottesville, VA, Teresa Hoover of Overland Park, Karen Nachtigal of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Ann Graber of Arlington, TX; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Graber of Custer, SD; brother-in-law, Cliff Gardner of South Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Carol Graber of Tulsa, OK; and many extended family members.

Don was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Philip; granddaughter, Kate Cofer; brother, Dean; and sister, Shirley Gardner.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Berean Baptist Church, 1620 Center Street, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

(Magnuson) Graber.Don graduated from Partridge High School in 1951 and attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, NE. He served in the United States Army 1956-1958. Don worked as a process engineer at New Holland Equipment in Grand Island, NE, for 19 years, as a missionary with Avant Ministries in Bolivia from 1985-1996, and served at Rio Grande Bible Institute as an associate staff member from 1996-2012. He loved cars and doing mechanic work and playing pool at the Senior Center at Elmdale Park. Don was a member of Berean Baptist Church.On August 2, 1955, he married Mary L. Lyon in Aurora, NE. She died January 3, 2002. On August 11, 2002, Don married Roberta G. Neir. She died November 8, 2020.He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy Anderson (Jim) of Charlottesville, VA, Teresa Hoover of Overland Park, Karen Nachtigal of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Ann Graber of Arlington, TX; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Graber of Custer, SD; brother-in-law, Cliff Gardner of South Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Carol Graber of Tulsa, OK; and many extended family members.Don was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Philip; granddaughter, Kate Cofer; brother, Dean; and sister, Shirley Gardner.Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Berean Baptist Church, 1620 Center Street, Hutchinson. Betty Ruth McConnell, 83, of Hutchinson, died July 12, 2024, at Hospice House surrounded by her family. She was born May 7, 1941, in Hutchinson, to Chester L. and Easter L. (Kelman) Ravens.

Betty graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1960 and attended Hutchinson Community College and completed her education at Salt City Business College. Betty began working at an early age at Shurtz Produce. Then she went to work at Sears as a Department Manager for 17 years. Betty then went to work for Davis Home Center / Star Lumber &amp; Supply until she retired in 2006. After retirement, she went to Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Center, where she taught her passion of quilting. She loved camping and crafting of all kinds – toll painting, ceramics, sewing, and especially quilting. Betty made many quilts for her family and friends. Her favorite sport was auto racing, from the local dirt track where family and friends raced, to traveling to her grandson kart racing and to even going to NASCAR races. She always sat in row 21 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Betty enjoyed going to any event where her grandchildren were involved as they were what she cherished the most. Betty was a member of Sunflower Ramblers RV Club and South Hutchinson United Methodist Church. She believed in working hard and loved taking trips, it did not matter where, often times to just get an ice cream sundae.&nbsp;

On April 22, 1961, Betty married Larry A. McConnell at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church. He survives.

Also surviving are: her children, Henton McConnell (Marsha) of Hutchinson, Shane McConnell of Buhler, Alicia Ochs (Danno) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Brandy Yengbe (Prince) and their children Maya and Theodore, of Wichita, Aaron McConnell (Kristina) and their son Otto, of Andover, Daniel Ochs of Overland Park, Nathan Ochs of Hutchinson, and Dawson McConnell of Buhler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Scott.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, 206 E. Avenue E, South Hutchinson. Burial will take place at a later date.

Linda J. White, 73, of Hutchinson, died July 11, 2024, at her home. She was born March 16, 1951, in Great Bend, to Herman B. and Dortha M. (Donner) McDowell.

Linda graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1969. She worked at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for over thirty years before she retired. During her free time, she enjoyed creating diamond art, playing cards, such as Rummy, embroidering, and coloring.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

On May 14, 1986, she married Wayne J. “Whiskers” White. They shared over 17 years of marriage before his death on February 8, 2004.

Linda is survived by her: son, Robert Dwerlkotte Jr., Larned; daughter, Amanda (Jonathan) Townley, Kingman; siblings, Bonnie Wallace and Harlan McDowell, Hutchinson; and numerous step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jeanette Dwerlkotte; siblings, Dee Freer, Nancy Foster, Sue McCulland, and Kathy Valleau; and grandson, Brian Townley.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor William Green officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, until service time.

Mary A. (Emond) George, 81, passed away on July 10, 2024. She was born in Wichita, Kansas on March 10, 1943, to Gerald and Esther Emond. She was a graduate of North High School in Wichita. She enjoyed reading books, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and taking road trips with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bob Emond, her sister, Jerolene Cornell, and her sons-in-law, Roger Adams and Ron Smith.

Mary was survived by her beloved husband, Jack George; her children, Jackie George Adams, Vickie George Smith, Gary and Mandy George; her grandchildren, Clayton Adams (Eric), Tiffany Fulco, Ricky Fulco, Abigail Alexander (Jared), Gabrielle George (Dillon); her great-grandchildren, Penelope Fulco, Elaine Newell Adams; her brother, Bill Emond, her sister-in-law, Beverly Emond, her brother-in-law, Jack Cornell, and many nieces and nephews.

Clara (Bieghler) Kessler, 72, passed away June 28th, 2024 at her home in Hutchinson, Kansas, surrounded by family. &nbsp; 

She was born November 6, 1951 to Clarence and Nellie (McCrae) Bieghler in Hutchinson.

Clara is survived by her son, Terry “Rob” Kessler, brother, Clarence Bieghler Jr and his wife Janet, brother-in-law Jerry Simpson, and grandchildren, Gabrielle Kessler and Eben Warrington.She was preceded by her husband, Terry Lee Kessler, parents, Clarence and Nellie, brother, Stan Wolf, and sisters, Stella Mae Powers and Donna Louise Simpson.

Clara lived a life full of love. Her biggest joy in life was her family, but she also enjoyed crochet, going fishing, or hanging out with the dogs. Clara was hardworking and an accomplished machinist, who retired from Eaton Hydraulics.

There will be a visitation at Old Mission Heritage Funeral Home, Monday July 15 from 4-8 p.m. and a graveside service at Fairlawn Burial Park, Tuesday, July 16th at 12:30 p.m., where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jeffrey M. Loesch, 68, passed away on July 10th, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. 

Born on August 24, 1955 in Lyons, KS to parents Lewis &amp; Eloise (Smith) Loesch he graduated from Chase High School (1973) and later attended Dodge City CC and FHSU. He worked for many years custom cutting and for Farmland later CHS Refinery as a truck driver.  Jeffrey was a longtime resident of Dodge City, KS. He would often be seen enjoying the local rodeos and races.  

Survivors include brothers, James “Jim” (Judy) Loesch, Hoisington, KS and Jerald “Jerry” (Brenda) Loesch, Great Bend, KS; sister, Janean (David) Hicks, Inman, KS. Other survivors include several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Eloise Loesch; grandparents  P.G. and Mamie (Blank) Loesch and Francis and Hilda (Rose) Smith.

Memorial service will take place Friday, July 19th 10:00 AM at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood, KS. Inurnment will follow at Hilltop Cemetery, Raymond, KS followed by a reception at Raymond Community Center. Jeffrey M. Loesch |1955-2024|

Eulala Ruth Hiebert Pankratz passed away early Wednesday, July 10, at Kidron Bethel in North Newton, Kansas.

&nbsp;She was born at home to parents Lizzie and Ben Hiebert in Walton, Kansas on September 27, 1928. She was valedictorian of her senior class at Walton High School, graduating in 1946. She attended Bethe College to earn her associate degree in Elementary Education.During her second year at Bethel she met the love of her life, Theodore (Ted) W. Pankratz. They were married on November 22,1950. In the fall of 1952, when her first daughter was born, she became a full time mother and homemaker. Her second daughter was born in 1956, her son followed in 1961.

Eulala was instrumental in starting the Walton Community Library, where she later became the part-time librarian, also serving on the state library board. When all three children were in school, she accepted a secretarial position at Walton Elementary. During this time her husband was elected mayor of Walton. Eulala was a great support to him, volunteering her skills to help in organizing municipal records. This led to a 20 year career with the city of Walton; 16 of them serving as city clerk. She retired in 1994.

After her retirement Eulala filled her calendar with weekly volunteer commitments at Newton Et Cetera Shop, serving as their treasurer and bookkeeper, and at MCC, sewing school bags. She was involved in church activities her entire life. At the Walton Mennonite Church she served as Sunday school superintendent, as well as Sunday school teacher. She was active in Vacation Bible School. Later in her life, she and her husband Ted became founding members of Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton.&nbsp;

Eulala surprised us with an adventurous travel spirit after she retired. Included in her travels were an Alaskan cruise and a New York Broadway theater tour with her sister in law Woody; a Scotland ramble with her daughter's family; and an epic journey to ancestral homelands in Ukraine with her sister Grace.

Eulala always had projects around her home, including sewing fashionable outfits for her daughters and later on grandchildren. She loved creating new beauty out of old well used furniture, painting, wallpapering, reupholstering furniture, and sewing home accessories. She spent time outdoors daily, gardening and landscaping. She mowed her expansive lawn with a push mower until she was 90. She wrote family histories and researched genealogy. She created holiday magic for family Christmases and rituals for family birthdays.&nbsp;

When asked what her greatest achievement is, she replied: "her children". Eulala was the heart of her family, a cheerleader for each and every member. Her grandchildren adore her. She guided her own life with her strong Christian faith, and was a beacon of grace and light to everyone around her.

She is survived by her three children: Rebecca (Keith), Teresa ( Bryan Timothy (Katie); grandchildren: Jesse (Aimee), Cole (Shannon), Bryer (Natalie), Lydi (Adam), Whitney (Nick), Camden (Rachel), Jake; great grandchildren: Emily (Derek), Addie (Zaden), Owen, Gabe, Keller, Niko Colbie, Layla, Ryker, Theo, Raith, Zachary; and one great-great grandc Benny. Also surviving are her sister Grace (John), brother Bob (Julane many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gifts in memory of Eulala may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, and left in the care of Petersen Funeral Home.

Visitation and viewing with the family is July 15, 2024, 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Petersen Funeral Home. Private burial with family on July 16th. A Celebration of Life will be held at Shalom Mennonite Church on August 10, at 11 am.

Included in her travels were an Alaskan cruise and a New York Broadway theater tour with her sister in law Woody; a Scotland ramble with her daughter's family; and an epic journey to ancestral homelands in Ukraine with her sister Grace.Eulala always had projects around her home, including sewing fashionable outfits for her daughters and later on grandchildren. She loved creating new beauty out of old well used furniture, painting, wallpapering, reupholstering furniture, and sewing home accessories. She spent time outdoors daily, gardening and landscaping. She mowed her expansive lawn with a push mower until she was 90. She wrote family histories and researched genealogy. She created holiday magic for family Christmases and rituals for family birthdays.&nbsp;When asked what her greatest achievement is, she replied: "her children". Eulala was the heart of her family, a cheerleader for each and every member. Her grandchildren adore her. She guided her own life with her strong Christian faith, and was a beacon of grace and light to everyone around her.She is survived by her three children: Rebecca (Keith), Teresa ( Bryan Timothy (Katie); grandchildren: Jesse (Aimee), Cole (Shannon), Bryer (Natalie), Lydi (Adam), Whitney (Nick), Camden (Rachel), Jake; great grandchildren: Emily (Derek), Addie (Zaden), Owen, Gabe, Keller, Niko Colbie, Layla, Ryker, Theo, Raith, Zachary; and one great-great grandc Benny. Also surviving are her sister Grace (John), brother Bob (Julane many nieces, nephews, and friends.Gifts in memory of Eulala may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, and left in the care of Petersen Funeral Home.Visitation and viewing with the family is July 15, 2024, 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Petersen Funeral Home. Loren Carl Rudolph, 81, died Tues. July 9, 2024. Loren was born October 6, 1942 in Salina, KS to Ed Sears and Opal (Layman). He grew up in Pilsen, KS and graduated from Center High School in Lincolnville in 1961. He married Judy Bonham of McPherson on Dec. 15, 1968, and spent 55 wonderful years with their daughters.

His love for his family and his Lord was obvious. In his final hours, he talked about “walking on the water and fishing with Jesus”. He held his cross tightly in his hands. He had asked if all his girls were with him. We were all there surrounding him and he said he was so happy with peace and joy in his heart.

He is preceded in death by Ed Sears, Pete and Mary Rudolph (parents), Opal and Robert Smith (Mother and Father), Sharon, Judy (wife), and Orval and Orlena Bonham (in-laws). He leaves behind “his girls”, as he would say, Lisa Unruh (daughter), Darla Rudolph (daughter), Jennifer (Derrick) Byran (daughter), Aaliyah Johnson (Caleb Caudell) (granddaughter), Bridget Rudolph (granddaughter), Larry (Ella) Rudolph (brother), Lenora Singleton (sister), Luella Jackson (sister), and many nieces and nephews he adored.

He was an army mechanic, police man, sheriffs reserve officer, and a car/truck mechanic. Other jobs Loren did consisted of hard work, especially when it came to using his hands. He also enjoyed family vacations. He went to California to visit his mother and father, and Oklahoma to visit Judy’s side of the family. Spending time with his siblings was very important to him, and they would hold holiday celebrations in different homes several times a year. These get-togethers included Adults-only card games (Pinochle and Pitch) and lots of conversation. He also had a love for fishing, camping, gardening, and attending sports events. All of this he enjoyed doing with family. His love and encouragement was always present with family as well as guidance and direction. Sometimes the advice was something we didn’t want to hear, but in the end it was the right thing we needed to hear all along. He was always ready to help his neighbors and friends. He had a heart of gold and would give you his last dime if you needed it. Loren enjoyed talking to his friends at Men’s coffee, sharing stories about his life experiences. He was full of life and made people laugh. Until the end, he would share memories with family and with anyone who would come to visit. He loved nature, especially birds. He had a collection of eagles and hummingbirds. He also had a collection of model cars. He also had a great love for his country, and would display the Red, White, and Blue American Flag.

A small child’s prayer Bible was found where he sat with a special page marked. I need you Jesus. My Jesus with all my heart and soul I want you. I cannot do without you. My soul needs you. My heart is ready for you. Come to me, Jesus come to me.

A celebration of life will be held mid-August 2024 at Grace Community Church in Hillsboro, KS. The date will be announced later.

Louise Merle Gould, 95, passed away at Leisure Homestead in Stafford on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. She was born on August 11, 1928 in Zenda, Kansas to Lewis Eugene and Mary (Mercer) Tatro. Louise married Willis Leslie Gould December 2, 1946. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1970.

Louise worked as a housekeeper with Pratt Regional Medical Center until she retired. She was a member of Free Methodist Church and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). She enjoyed gardening, reading; especially the bible and love stories, cross stitching, collecting angels, cooking for family Christmas Eve dinner, going for car rides around Lemon Park and Pratt County Lake, and going out for a children's size chicken taco salad. She loved spending time with her family and drinking Pepsi and Diet Mountain Dew.

She is survived by her son, Edwin (Marge Hemphill) Gould of Pratt; son in-law, Jerry Fredrick of Pratt; daughter in-law, Donna Gould of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Sondra (Wayne) Davis of St. John, Troy (Brandee) McGuire of Bullard, Texas, Michael (Whitney) Gould of Pratt, Billy (Wendy) Gould of Wichita, Christina Curley of Hutchinson, Todd (Amanda) Fredrick of Pratt, Matthew (Sasha) Gould of Kansas City, Kansas and T.J. Don Lee Baker, 78, climbed the stairway to heaven June 27, 2024 in Wichita, Kansas at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice surrounded by family in his final moments. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on September 29, 1945, to parents Earl William Baker and Avis (Stewart) Baker. He attended Wichita West High School studying drafting and played clarinet in the orchestra and marching band. Don enlisted in the Navy and served as a draftsman for the Fleet Intelligence Center Pacific from 1966-1970. Following his enlistment he graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts and worked at Landor and Associates, San Francisco developing packaging designs for Revlon, 7-Up and Squirt. Don spent the last 30 years living in New Boston, Michigan. He began Baker Designs, consulting business offering his expertise on packaging and interior designs. After retirement Don studied massage therapy and started a neuromuscular therapy business, SomataPoints, working with physicians and clients to alleviate pain. Following his final retirement, Don concentrated on wood carving, scrimshaw, and knife making. He loved talking to people about art, attending many shows in the Michigan area demonstrating his scrimming techniques. He always was willing to teach and encouraged guests to try the arts and to appreciate color and design. He was a favorite guest speaker to many of the local gem and mineral, and carving clubs to talk about his crafts. He was particularly interested in Native American culture, producing many pieces in the genre. He loved to travel, seeing the beauty of the world and immersing into the cultures. Don was very fond of the Dobermans he rescued from Second Chance Dobes and they returned the love. His admiration and dedication to the breed was unsurpassed. Don was a member of the Wyandotte VFW, was a member of the riders group and was known as Dog Man.&nbsp;

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Avis. He is survived by his sister Jeannie Burkhardt (Charles), nephews Scott Burkhardt (Misty) and Seth Burkhardt (Jennifer), grand nephews Cole and Grant, grand nieces Kayla and Mia.

Troy M. Kern was born in Wichita, Kansas on April 4, 1967, to TaMyra Bowhay and Joseph Kern. He passed away at the age of 57 on Monday, June 17, 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Wichita Heights High School in 1985. He worked for many years as a skilled carpenter doing jobs including roofing, painting, carpet laying and remodeling bathrooms just to name a few of his accomplishments.

That was another way he was able to put his hands to good use.&nbsp;&nbsp;His hobbies included playing many rounds of golf with his dad and uncles Jim and Jack. They would never disclose how many clubs ended up in the ponds though.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved anything to do with the outdoors. He enjoyed boating and fishing. He especially liked going out at night so he could take his great danes, Hades and Zues with him to share those experiences. This was a great time to take them running and get some exercise as well.&nbsp; &nbsp;Troy loved the sport of disc golf. He was very good at it, playing in many tournaments both in town and out of town. He usually placed in the top three finishers, always returning home with a big smile on his face and winnings in his pocket.December 2008 was a very special time in Troy’s life. That was when he became the proud father of Joshua Roman Kern. He spent the next eight years with Joshua before returning to Wichita. They were still able to spend many birthdays and other special occasions together celebrating. Countless hours were spent on long distance telephone conversations and numerous lengthy text messages. Joshua was able to come back this past Christmas and reconnect personally with his father and family. Troy leaves Joshua with many, many fond memories.Troy’s life wasn’t without great trials and challenges, and while his death came as a shock to his family and friends, he was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Those many family members and friends may not have always known or understood what was in his heart or mind, but they always wanted the best for him and wished him that.As our minds and hearts begin the journey of healing and finding peace and understanding following Troy’s death, we will always remember the many good memories of having Troy in our lives.Troy is survived by his mother TaMyra Kern (Jim Hamilton) of Park City, Ks. and his son, Joshua Roman Kern of Phoenix, AR.
