Shirley Ann Fager, 83, died July 25, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born June 15, 1942, in Talmadge, MI, to Paul M. and Elizabeth G. (Carlisle) Smith.

Shirley graduated from Pratt High School in 1960. She attended Pratt Community College and graduated with a bachelor’s in elementary education from Wichita State University. Shirley was an elementary school teacher in Leon, Moundridge and Leroy. She enjoyed fishing, geocaching and taking photos. When living in Independence, Shirley liked to attend the Neewollah festival and would go back to Independence for the parade once she moved away. She cherished spending time with family; Shirley’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her.

Shirley is survived by: daughters, DeAnna Rice and Donna Fager, both of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Kandi (Eric Perez) Rice of Jacksonville, FL, Rebecca (William) Schreckengost of Louisburg, , Kaylie (Clinton) Irwin of Pleasanton; great-grandchildren, Tanzi Schreckengost, Waylon Schreckengost, Violet Schreckengost, Kasen Hill, Wesley Hays, Chevie Hays, Gemma Hays, Barrett Irwin, Gunner Irwin; sister, Carol (Steve) Snyder of Stillwater, OK; former husband, Ted Fager of Hutchinson; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved dog and companion for 13 years, Kasey.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, partner, Virginia Wilson; siblings, Doris Waldbauer, Paul M. Smith, Jr., and Richard Smith.

Memorial service will 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at First Church of God, 704 N. Jefferson, Hutchinson, with Pastor Glenn Koster, Sr. officiating. Private family burial will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt. Friends may sign the book at Elliott Mortuary from Monday until the day of the service. Cremation has taken place.
