
Robert Eugene “Bob” Enders, 101, died July 26, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born March 8, 1924, in Lyons, to W. Elmer and Jessie Amelia (Young) Enders.
Robert graduated from Lyons High School in 1942. After graduation, he enrolled in Kansas State University, but was there for only one semester, as he was drafted into the United States Navy. Robert served in the United States Navy, in the Pacific on the U.S. S. Bountiful, from 1943-1946. During his lifetime, Robert enjoyed a variety of occupations. He worked as a farmer, butcher, helped set up deli’s for Piggly Wiggly, and was an auctioneer for Navajo Rug Auctions. In 2014, at the age of 90, he moved back to Kansas from New Mexico, where Robert had lived for 54 years.
One of his proudest high school moments was during his senior year. Robert was a member of a brass quintet that received a “I” rating at the state music festival. In addition, prior to his passing, he was the oldest living alumni of Lyons High School. Robert was also a charter member of the Rice County Valley Bluebirds 4-H Club. He enjoyed painting, woodcarving, and staying active. Robert was a member of the Hutchison Antique and Collectors Club, McPherson Gem and Mineral Club, the Hutchinson Antique and Collectors Club, American Legion Lysle Post #68, and Eastwood Church of Christ.
On July 17, 1944, he married Dorothy Janssen, in Seattle, WA. Their marriage ended in divorce. Robert later married Mae, Winnie and Leslie. They all preceded him in death.
Robert is survived by: daughters, Cynthia Landon (Guy Colle) of Hutchinson and Carol Crites (Scott) of Calera, OK; sister, Phyllis Hughes of Lyons; brother, Paul Enders (Arlene) of Duluth, GA; grandson, Justin Enders (Laura) of Overland Park; three great-grandchildren, Walter, Eleanor, and Louis Enders; two nieces; several cousins; and numerous stepchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Richard “Rick” Enders; son-in-law, Perry Landon, brother-in-law, Charles Hughes; and Cynthia, Rick, and Carol’s mother, Dorothy.
Celebration of Life will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2025, in Fellowship Hall, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum. At 2:00 p.m., there will be a short service, with military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Graveside inurnment will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the Lyons Municipal Cemetery.
