Duane McCall, 85, of McPherson, passed away at 10:20 p.m., Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 while in the company of his wife, at McPherson Hospital.

Duane was born in Woodston, Kansas on November 1, 1935, a son of Hattie Rose (Covey) and Leland William McCall.

Duane attended the Woodston grade school, and graduated from Woodston High School, Woodston, Kansas. He then attended an Electronics trade school in Topeka, Kansas for a year.

He was a member of Harmony Christian Church McPherson, where he was Baptized.

Duane McCall was united in marriage to Roberta May Shields on September 23, 1960 at St Francis, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in Glade, Kansas. They were blessed with six children, four sons and two daughters, Rick, Coral, Tim, Mitch, Terry, and Randy. The couple moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1981 and lived their until 1986 when the couple moved to McPherson, Kansas.

Duane has always been a truck driver starting out by working for his father hauling livestock. He had his own trucking business called McCall Trucking for many years before going to work for Farmland and later worked for Cenex in which he retired from. It was while he was driving for Farmland, his fellow truckers gave him the nick name "Pokey". After retirement he drove for Ryan Reiff hauling grain until he was 80 years old.

Duane enjoyed driving a truck, reading, watching western shows on tv, listening to country music especially the Diamond W. Wranglers, traveling and going on cruises, rescuing Boston Terriers, visiting and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years, Roberta McCall, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Rick McCall, of Culver, Kansas, Coral McCall, of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Timothy McCall and wife Karen, of Derby, Kansas, Mitch McCall, of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Terry Plunkett and husband Alan, of Carlton, Kansas, and Randy McCall, of Grove, Oklahoma; his 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; other relatives and a host of friends

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Leland McCall; and his sisters, Delores McCall and Darlene LeFort.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson.

The funeral service will be held at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15th, with Pastor Robert H. Park officiating.

Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

Vivian Marjorie Embers, 97, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:57 p.m., Tuesday, June 8th, 2021 peacefully at Angel Arms.

Vivian was born in rural Holden, Missouri on October 17, 1923, a daughter of Vernon Tipton and Viola Savilla (Kitterman) Bird.

Vivian attended El Dorado grade school, El Dorado, Kansas, Roosevelt and Washington grade school, Park School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1941.

She was a member of First Baptist Church McPherson.

Through the years Vivian was a owner operator of her own hairdressing salon out of her home for several years before working and managing for Beau Mart Salon. Then worked as a realtor for Duguid Insurance and Real Estate both of McPherson, Kansas.

Vivian was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, Professional Women's Business Club, Friends and Counsel and was on the board of the McPherson Opera House.

Vivian enjoyed flower gardening, birds, playing bridge, music, arranging parties and loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her granddaughters and great granddaughter's.

Vivian M. Bird was united in marriage to Kenneth Duane Embers, Sr. on January 11, 1942 at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas for their first year. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, a son and a daughter, Ken and Jan..

She is survived by her children Ken Embers and his wife Pat, of Manhatten, Kansas and Jan Decker and her husband Karyl, of McPherson, Kansas. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Tami Wilson(Dan), Nicole Laine(John) and Sheila Embers and 2 great grandchildren, Rylee Bachus and Madilyn Laine.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; her sister Verna and her two grandson, James Andrew Embers and Christopher Luke Embers.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas, with Reverend John Pattison officiating.

Catherine Jean Deist, 73, of Mcpherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:34 p.m., Tuesday, June 8th, 2021 while in the company of family members at her residence.

Catherine was born in Hillsdale, Michigan on July 15, 1947, a daughter of Walter Hall and Betty Hall.

Catherine attended multiple school in Michigan and Kansas.

Catherine enjoyed crocheting, reading, being a mom and loved spending time with her friends and family.

Catherine Jean Hall was united in marriage to John Edward Deist, Jr. on November 26, 1971 in Hutchinson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Hutchinson. The couple was blessed with the birth of seven children, four daughters and three sons, Jeffery, Elizabeth, Emma, Patricia, Jennifer, John and Butch.

She is survived by her children, Jeffery Deist and his wife Wendy, of Pasco, Washington, Elizabeth Deist, of Boston, Massachusetts, Emma Vaughn-Deist, of Roanoke, Virginia, Patricia Williams, of McPherson, Kansas, Jennifer Weber and her husband Daryl, of Salina, Kansas, John Deist, of Manhatten, Kansas and Butch Deist, of McPherson, Kansas; her father Walter Hall, of Mesa, Arizona. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild on the way.

Catherine was preceded in death by her mother; her husband John; a granddaughter Rebecca and her great-granddaughter, Hailey.

Vernon Ray Mastin, Sr. was born on November 14, 1935, in St. John, Kansas to Bert and Bertha Mastin. He graduated from St. John High School in 1956.

He passed on Monday June 7, 2021 in Pearland Texas. He met the love of his life Charlotte Doughty and they were married Stafford Ks on February 9, 1958. Vern joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War. He has left to mourn his passing is his widow, Charlotte. His children Carrie and David Brown, Vernon Ray Jr and Robin Mastin, Melanie and Rob Gage.

He loved his grandchildren: Justin Brown and Travis and Jess Brown, Clayton and Melissa Mastin, Kelcie and Lloyd Ball, Cole and Amanda Mastin, Katie Mastin, Kelly Greenwell, Shawn and Beth Greenwell, Nathan Gage and Alisha Gage. There are 7 Great grandchildren: Finley Brown, Cali and Daxton Mastin, Keagan and Kameron Mastin, Kaden Greenwell and Kyle Greenwell.

Vern grew up on a farm and loved it. He was able to farm wheat and alfalfa. He also drove a school bus for 13 years. He took care of all the kids on the bus as if they were his own and considered them friends later in life. He was also an artisan working with stained glass.

Vern and Charlotte moved to Port Arthur, Texas in 1990. While there he drove a medical bus from Port Arthur to Galveston for another 13 years. He was an avid bowler for many years. He bowled 3 times a week. He considered his bowling friends family. They were all very important to him. Vern and his bowling cohorts bowled in the Southwest bowling tournament for about 40 years. Vernon Jr, Clayton and Shawn bowled with Vern Sr. for many years. To bowl with your son and grandsons in such a high caliber tournament is a great honor. Vern has 2 surviving brothers, Bill and Darlene Mastin and Bert and Janis Mastin. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Bert and Bertha Mastin, Hiriam Mastin, Beatrice Foss, Rosalie Mastin and Margaret Piland.

Vern has also left behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and many long-time friends, all of whom will miss him for a very long time.  Memorial service will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Minnis Chapel, St. John with Pastor Wade Russell presiding.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Park Cemetery with military honors. Tricia Lee Bridgess, 66, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away June 8, 2021, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born November 19, 1954, in Lyons, the daughter of Charles Winfield and Loretta Young Alderman. Tricia was a near lifelong Lyons resident. She graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1972 and was a State Tennis Champion. Tricia worked as an agriculture pest control applicator. On June 4, 1987, Tricia was married to Thomas Bridgess at the Rice County Courthouse, Lyons. They later divorced. 

Tricia is survived by her son, Clay Bridgess of Lyons; daughter, Cally Yeager and husband Byron of Cottonwood Falls, KS; and a sister, Janis Huck of Scott City, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents. 

Private family graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. A Celebration of Life will be held at her residence at the Cottonwood Lake in Sterling following the services at the cemetery. Catherine E. Blasi, 97, died June 8, 2021 at Kingman.

She was born Jan. 6, 1924, at Willowdale, Kansas the daughter of Edward and Leona Miller Kanngiesser.  A lifetime resident of the Willowdale and Zenda communities, she was the retired co-owner and operator of Blasi Service Station.

Catherine was a member of the St. John Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Zenda.

On Oct. 17, 1944, she married Ernest J. “Jack” Blasi at Zenda; he died Oct. 4, 2003.  Survivors include sons Robert, Rodney, Leroy and Norbert; daughters Jean Fairchild, Margie Islas, Diana Newman, Janet Kaiser, Nancy Blasi and Sandra McTier; brothers Ed and Lawrence Kanngiesser; sisters Helen Vierthaler, Ruth Mantooth, Mary Bayer and Carolyn Kimminau; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.  She was also preceded in death by daughter Suzette Kring; son John Blasi; and sister Joyce Vierthaler.

 He was cared for by his cousin Eva Smith Grentz and survived by two children Rusty Buford of TX and Christi Garcia of CA.

Durham - Gaylord William Hamm, 98, died June 10, 2021 at Hillsboro Community Hospital in Hillsboro. He was born September 23, 1922 North of Durham on the Family Farm to William and Leah (Schuber) Hamm. He married Valera Graves October 1, 1948 in Florence. He was a Farmer / Rancher and drove school bus for many years. 

Survivors include: wife, Valera Hamm of Durham; son, James Gaylord (Myrna) Hamm of rural Tampa; daughters, Bonnie Jean (Larry) Winter of Silver Lake, Barbara Fay (Ron) Williams of Glenpool, Oklahoma; brother, Gus (Mildred) Hamm of Hillsboro; sisters, Arlene Pankratz of Hillsboro, Marcella Mohn of Hillsboro; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was born September 23, 1922 North of Durham on the Family Farm to William and Leah (Schuber) Hamm. He married Valera Graves October 1, 1948 in Florence. He was a Farmer / Rancher and drove school bus for many years. Jimmy Riley Hodges, 67, passed away June 6, 2021, at his home.&nbsp; He was born October 12, 1953, in Hutchinson, to Benny Riley and Betty Jeane (Snyder) Hodges.

Jimmy was a 1971 graduate of Buhler High School.&nbsp; He worked as a sales manager for various companies.&nbsp; Jimmy enjoyed sports and was a decorated athlete.&nbsp; His appreciation for sports included participating, as well as spectating.&nbsp; Jimmy was an avid golfer and loved to play and watch the game whenever he could.&nbsp; His love for sports was only exceeded by his love for his family and friends.&nbsp; The titles that he cherished most were husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, and friend.

On August 5, 1994, Jimmy married Linda Johnson, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 26 years of marriage.

He is survived by:&nbsp; wife, Linda Hodges of Hutchinson; daughter, Cassie (Chris) Delaney of Bel Aire; stepsons, Jason (fiancée, Lynlea Southards) Wood of Wichita, Matthew (Britta) Wood of Nashville, and Chad Johnson of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Chandler Hodges and Emma Delaney; eight step-grandchildren; siblings, Susan Hill, Jacolyn (Roger) Wood, Donald (Amy) Hodges, and Jerry (Cheslea) Hodges; Meryl Dye, mother of Cassie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Joyce Faye Bergen, 77, of Goessel, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at NMC Health Medical Center in Newton.  She was born February 6, 1944 in Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Olga (Schmidt) Pankratz.

She graduated from Goessel High School with the class of 1962.  Joyce went on to receive her nurse’s degree in Halstead.

Joyce was a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel.

She was united in marriage to Daniel Bergen on August 28, 1965 at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.  He survives of the home.

Joyce worked as a registered nurse at many hospitals and clinics throughout her career including; Goessel Hospital, St Francis Hospital in Wichita, Presbyterian Hospital in Denver, Axtell Clinic, Bethel Clinic, and Newton Medical Center, all of Newton.  She retired in 2009.

Other survivors include her children, Greg (Kim) Bergen of Leawood, and Jennifer Bergen (Mark Wiemers) of Manhattan; four grandchildren, Wyatt and Owen Adams, and Luke and Georgia Bergen; brother, Eldon (Eva) Pankratz of Hillsboro; sister, Ruth Ann Penner of Hillsboro; and brother-in-law, Bob Ratzlaff.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Evelyn, Betty, Violet and Fern; sister-in-law, Ardith Pankratz; and brother-in-law, Willis Penner.

Charlie S. Kriewald, 99, of Little River, KS and formerly of Ord, NE, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, 4 days short of his 100th&nbsp;birthday at Sandstone Heights, Little River.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charlie was a retired carpenter and contractor, owning &amp; operating Kriewald Construction for over 30 years in Ord, Nebraska.

Charlie was born June 12, 1921, in Greeley County, NE, the son of August William Carl and Myrtle (Schauer) Kriewald.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was united in marriage to Lena Winifred Craig. This union was blessed with two children, Charlie “Ron” and Patricia.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lena preceded Charlie in death in 2003.

Charlie was a Shriner and Mason in Ord, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also was a volunteer fireman and Deputy Sheriff of Valley County, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;He initiated church services at the Magic Valley Park in Weslaco, TX. Within recent years, he enjoyed being part of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church congregation in Lyons, KS and was thankful for the friends who took him to church. Charlie loved the Lord and read the Bible daily.

In 1951, Charlie built a Minnesota lake cabin that is still in the family.&nbsp;&nbsp;He enjoyed spending 41 years of winter in Texas.

Survivors include: two children, Charlie “Ron” Kriewald and wife, Kathy, of Nisswa, MN and Patricia “Pat” Kriewald of Ord, NE; three grandchildren, Robyn Victoria (Tony), Roxanne Thomas (Jeff), and Ryan Kriewald (Cari); four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, August “Bud” Kriewald and Beckie Kriewald Bixby.

Robert Francis Ackley, sadly passed due to COVID-19 on Monday, May 24th, 2021. He was born July 20, 1959, in Rhode Island. He was 61.

Robert will be forever remembered and loved by his surviving wife Christy, sisters Cheryl and Jennifer, father Robert Francis Ackley Sr., daughters Meagen, Caiti, and Alexis, sons William and Glen, best friend Kevin, and mother-in-law Jolene.

He served his country for 12 years in the military before giving 21 years of service to the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. He was also employed by Walmart.

A memorial will be planned at a future date.&nbsp;

Laura Jean Ragsdale, 72, passed away on June 4, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, KS.  She was born August 8, 1948, in Pawhuska, OK, the daughter of Jaydee Ragsdale and Lucretia (Boylan) Nichols.

She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1966 and attended Hutchinson Community College.  She worked for Hartmans and Cessna for over 20 years as a forklift operator.  She was a very active member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the NAACP.  Laura was a loving and caring mother.  She loved her sons more than anything and they were the center of her world.  She was also a loving and caring daughter, sister and aunt.  In Laura’s spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her close friends, family and bingo crew. 

Laura was preceded in death by her father, Jaydee; and a brother, Edward L. Tipton.

She is survived by her mother, Lucretia; two sons, Robert and Jeffrey Ragsdale; two brothers, Roger Coffee and Bruce Nichols, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1015 E. 7th, Hutchinson, with Reverend William Green presiding. Nancy Elizabeth Sawaya, 57, passed away June 6, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born June 17, 1963, in Phoenix, AZ.&nbsp; Her parents were Clifford and Darlene (Buggeln) Leitzel.

Nancy was a 1981 graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; She was employed by Dillons for 25 years.

On March 27, 1981, Nancy married Chris Sawaya, at his cousin’s home, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 40 years of marriage.

She is survived by:&nbsp; husband, Chris Sawaya of Hutchinson; daughters, Larissa (Ben Eisiminger) Sawaya of Lawrence, and Elizabeth Sawaya of Topeka; granddaughters, Olive and Mary Eisiminger; sister, Terri (John) Leroy; brothers, Robert Snider, John Snider, and Charles Boyer; and mother-in-law, Patricia Sawaya.

Nancy was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; brother, Curtis Farmer; and father-in-law, Norman Sawaya.

Mary Dona Teaney, 93, of Halstead, died June 6, 2021, at Halstead Health and Rehab. She was born December 25, 1927, in Turon, to Harry and Mina (Davis) Dimitt.

Dona graduated from Turon High School in 1946. She was a homemaker. Dona loved the Arlington Senior Center and was very involved there. She was an avid bowler and even traveled to different states for bowling leagues. Dona also loved butterflies and collected anything and everything that had a butterfly on it. She was a member for many years at Arlington United Methodist Church and participated in the women’s group there.

In 1947, Dona married Richard Kuhns in Arlington. He passed away in 1964. On February 26, 1966, she married William Teaney in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He passed away on May 20, 1989.

Dona is survived by: son, Darrel Kuhns (Patricia), Red Rock, Texas; daughters, Mary Hall (Terry Morris), Newton, Dawn Hill, Red Rock, Texas, Debra Chappel, Haviland; bonus children, Sue (Tom), Mary (Mike), both of Hutchinson, and Bonnie of Stillwell, Oklahoma; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

Joan Rose (Stucky) Ensz, beloved wife, mother grand and great grandmother went to Heaven on June 5, 2021 from her residence at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton, Kansas. She was born on the 17th November, 1931, the youngest of 10 children to Edward T. Stucky and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Libich) Stucky in Moundridge, Kansas.

Joan, during her childhood and adolescence went to school in Moundridge.  She would often help her mother clean houses around town and West Zion Mennonite Church, while her father worked at the grain elevator in Moundridge.    As a young adult she moved to Newton, Kansas where she worked as a secretary for the Haury Accounting firm.  Soon after she met Harry Ensz of rural Beatrice, Nebraska.  Joan and Harry married in 1951 and settled in Newton where she became a homemaker raised three sons and a daughter.  She would often babysit her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and worked on various committees and taught children’s Sunday School at First Mennonite Church in Newton.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings, Josephine, Jess, Joy, Juanita, Jean, James, Jon, Junior, and Jane.  She is survived by her husband Harry Ensz, North Newton, Ks of nearly 70 years, her three sons and daughter, Steven and Marcia (White) Ensz, The Woodlands TX, Bryan and Nancy (Stucky) Ensz, Lawrence, KS, Kevin and Kerry (Billman) Ensz, Wichita, KS and Lori (Ensz) and Eric Shelly, North Newton, KS.  She is also survived by the following grandchildren Kelsey (Ensz) and John Friedman, Kristin (Ensz) and Stephen Martin, Andrew and Erin (Downey) Ensz, Daniel Ensz, Matthew and Tyler Shelly and Haley Ensz and great grandchildren Reagan and Parker Friedman, Emma, Lily and Jack Martin, Nathan and Owen Ensz.

She married Butch Mueller January 28, 1951 in Tampa. She was a cashier at the Tampa State Bank in Tampa. Survivors include: son, Rodney L. Mueller of Tampa; daughter, Jody (Ron) Heath of Salina; sisters, Ophelia Jacobson of Wichita, Edna (Paul) Backhus of Tampa; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Phyllis Ann (Rhode) Mueller peacefully passed away with her immediate family present at her bedside in her home in Tampa, Kansas on June 6th, 2021, at the age of 88.

Phyllis was born to William John Rhode and Lydia Elizabeth (Galliart) Rhode on the family farm in Tampa, Kansas January 28th, 1933. She was the middle child of the three famous "Rhode girls". Ophelia Jacobson and Edna Backhus were her sisters. They all worked on the family farm southeast of Tampa with their parents. Phyllis was known to be on the tractor at an early age helping her father.

Phyllis graduated from Tampa High School in 1949 at the age of 16. She went to school a year early to be with her older sister Ophelia.

Phyllis married Lloyd George "Butch" Mueller January 28, 1933. They were blessed with 2 children, Rodney Lloyd Mueller ( the ornery one) and Jody Jolene (Mueller) Heath (the spoiled one). They lived on a farm for the first few years of their marriage and moved to Tampa city limits where together they built a 4 room house into the present home today.

Phyllis worked at the Tampa State Bank as cashier for 56 years from 1954 to 2010. She also owned and operated Butch's Diner with her husband for many years. She would work in the cafe in the early morning and head to her banking job at 9. She would come back and work the lunch hour with her husband and sister-in-law Agnes Steinert and return to the bank at 1. They had supper run after her work was done at the bank and she would go home at night around 9. Phyllis could not sit still and was always working on something. Her work ethic was phenomenal. They were known best for Sunday pan fried chicken dinners. The area around Tampa for many miles would come to eat Sunday dinner. She loved to cook and loved her time in the restaurant even though she frequently would say " we are just killing ourselves with this hard work".

She was a charter member of the Tampa Ambulance crew from 1978 to 1993 with her husband Butch. Phyllis always wanted to be a nurse and was able to somewhat fulfill this dream with the ambulance work. She did manage to convince her daughter to follow the dream that she had for herself. Phyllis enjoyed helping people. For many years, she was a caregiver for her parents as their health failed.

Phyllis was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Tampa.

Phyllis did enjoy bowling. She and Butch were in mixed leagues and she followed Butch around while he bowled in various leagues and tournaments. After Butch passed away, she bowled with her children for some time while she was able.

Phyllis would always make time to watch her kids play sports in school and their various activities. There were summer baseball and softball games that she attended in those hot summer months and loved to watch her kids and their friends play ball. She was able to watch her grandchildren in some activities until her health slowed her down.

Phyllis enjoyed her 3 grandchildren, Michael Mueller (Sheila) of Laramie, Wyoming and Danielle Heath and Tyler Heath of Salina. She also had 3 great-grandchildren Thomas, Saige and Dane Mueller. She loved children and enjoyed when she could spoil them.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the outpouring of support from all of their family and friends. We are thankful for our memories with our mother and grandmother and will miss her dearly.

Pratt - Bonita "Bonnie" May Rojas, 65, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Pratt Health and Rehab. She was born February 24, 1956 in Pratt to Lloyd and Lois (Jenkins) Bishop. "Bonnie" married John L. Rojas on January 10, 1983 in Pratt. They were married for 38 years.

Bonnie worked as a Manager for Love's. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended AA . She enjoyed playing Bingo.

She is survived by her husband, John Rojas of Pratt; son, James Wesley Brown of Austin, Texas; daughter, Shelly Renee (Alex) Robles of Pratt; step daughter, Anita Rojas of Pratt; and grandchildren, Trinity Brown, Chereth Brown and Alethea Brown.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Daryl Bishop and Larry Bishop.

She was born April 10, 1935 at Acres, Kansas, the daughter of Jason Burnard (Skeet) and Elsie Lunsford Simonson. A Cunningham resident most of her life she was a retired USD #332 teacher &amp; former Democratic council woman. She belonged to the Methodist Church &amp; was a member of Catholic Church of Cunningham. On August 29, 1953, she married Harold L Schreck at St. Leo, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1991. Survivors include two sons, Michael Blaine Schreck of Cunningham and Steven Laine Schreck of Pratt; brother, Burnard (Coleen) Simonson of Pratt; sister, Besies Gilliland of McCook, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Dr. Dan Erickson) Erickson of Murrieta, California, Kathryn Christine Schreck of San Bernadino, California, Thomas Allen Schreck of Pratt and Lyndsey Lee Schreck of Wichita. Survivors include two sons, Michael Blaine Schreck of Cunningham and Steven Laine Schreck of Pratt; brother, Burnard (Coleen) Simonson of Pratt; sister, Besies Gilliland of McCook, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Dr. Dan Erickson) Erickson of Murrieta, California, Kathryn Christine Schreck of San Bernadino, California, Thomas Allen Schreck of Pratt and Lyndsey Lee Schreck of Wichita. August Freund passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4th at the age of 90. 

He was born at home on November 9, 1930 in Andale, Kansas to August F. and Leona (Colburn) Freund. August spent his childhood on the family farm in Little River. A resident of Great Bend since 1958, he moved to South Hutchinson in 2016 and resided at the Mennonite Friendship Community. August graduated from Little River High School in 1948. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corp from December 1951 to December 1953, residing in Vista, CA. August and his wife, Vada, returned to Kansas in 1957. He worked in construction for Hahner, Foreman and Cale for over twenty years, and then worked for Baker-Hughes and retired in 1992. After retirement he enjoyed stonework, woodworking and working with metal. He was a former member of Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend and a current member of Guadalupe Catholic Church in South Hutchinson, KS. On May 26, 1951, he married Vada L. Folck in Little River, KS at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They were married for 70 loving years. 

August will be lovingly remembered by his children: Charla A. (Darren) Thornton of Olathe, Michael E. (Deborah) Freund of Great Bend, Mary Kay (Bruce) Kelm of Shawnee, Eric J. (Kathy) Freund of Hutchinson and Mark A. (Vina) Freund of Hutchinson. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Danielle Tyler, Leslie Reese, Jay Thornton, Barret Freund, Anna Loera, Andrew Freund, Craig Freund, Benjamin Kelm and Abigail Kelm; by great-grandchildren: Alexis, Joey, Ellie, Mia, Rigley, Kylie, Evonna, Evangelina, August, Asher, James, and Jace; and a brother, David Freund (Rose) and sister-in-law, Marla Freund. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Leona Freund, brothers: James and Edgar and infant sister, Lola Marie. 

Funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 11, 2021 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Little River, with Father Charles Seiwert officiating. Burial will follow at Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River with military honors by the United States Marines Corps. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:30 A.M., prior to the service with a Parish Rosary being said at 10:30 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of August Freund, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.

August Edward Freund |1930-2021|

Rodney D. Eggert, 75, died June 5, 2021 at his home outside Norwich.

He was born May 12, 1946, at Harper, Kansas the son of Carl A. and Norma E.  Johnston Eggert.  A lifetime resident of Norwich, he was a retired architectural design and project manager for Law Kingdom.

Rod was a 1964 graduate of Norwich High School.

He was married to Janet Smith; she preceded him in death.  On Nov. 24, 1966, he married Carole Latshaw.  Other survivors include sister Carla (Pete) Leroux; brother-in-law Wayne (Ida) Latshaw; God-son Michael (Carrie) Kelly; grandchildren Megan, Kira, Braylin and Drew.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Norwich United Methodist Church.  Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday at the Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Norwich EMT’s or the First Baptist Church of Norwich in care of Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman, KS.
