Obituary for Jerry M. Magnison
Jerry Maxton Magnison of Medicine Lodge, KS, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the age of 80. Jerry died peacefully at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph in Wichita, KS, with family by his side.
Jerry was born on June 12, 1941, in Alva, OK, to father John Baier Magnison and mother Carrie Faye (Woods) Magnison. As a young man, Jerry was an over-the-road truck driver delivering goods in all 48 of the contiguous United States, also Alaska and Canada. He married Debra Harmon of Byron, OK. They made their home in Cherokee, OK, raising 3 daughters. During that time Jerry worked for Caruthers Construction, eventually opening his own roustabout company and a BBQ restaurant that Debra still operates today.
Jerry retired in 2006, as a finish blade operator from Clarkson Construction Company in Kansas City, MO. In retirement Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories at the coffee shop, tinkering around on the family farm and was a professional people watcher. Jerry will be remembered for his larger than life personality, his loud booming voice, and his big heart. He never knew a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
Surviving are three daughters, Mandy Jo Thomas and husband Jason of Commerce City, CO; Misty Jo Magnison of Alva, OK; and Megan Jo Magnison and fiancé Greg Baumer of Broomfield, CO. Also six grandchildren, Macy Thomas, Cannon Thomas, Stormi Magnison, Brooklynn Faison, Aiden Faison, and Tripp Sanders; One great-grandson, King McNabb; two sisters, Janet Roland of Medicine Lodge, KS, and Emmajo Rucker and husband Gary of Medicine Lodge, KS;
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Jerry Lee Magnison, and one brother J-Paul Magnison.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at Community Bible Fellowship, Medicine Lodge, KS. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. James McLaughlin and Pastor Dwain Richert officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS.
