Robert S. (Bob) Ensign peacefully passed away on July 19, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas.
Bob was born in Findlay, Ohio to Sidney Benjamin Ensign and Orpha Mae (Newman) Ensign on September 17, 1928. He has lived in Wichita, Kansas for the past 11 years, but still considers Concordia, Kansas to be his hometown. He attended high school in Coffeyville, Kansas and graduated from Wichita University with a Master's Degree in music. He met his wife, Jean Kiser, during this time at WU and they wed on May 28, 1949. Bob then served in the Air Force and directed the United States Air Force Band in Europe. He was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. Upon his return to private life he taught music first in Peabody and then Marysville, Kansas before finding his home in Concordia where he spent most of his career.
Bob enjoyed fishing and golfing, but most of all loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was a very giving man and spent many years caring for and serving others in various capacities because, as he said, "God put me in the position to do so for a reason".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney B. and Orpha M. Ensign, his sister Rosemary Kern, and wife Jean Isabelle (Kiser) Ensign. He is survived by his children David Ensign (Deborah) of Louisville,KY, Jane Laible (Les) of Topeka, and Steven Ensign (Gail) of Wichita; grandchildren Chelsea Reed (Nathan), Susanne Larson (Travis), Grace Remines (Adam), Anne Ensign Urteaga (Adam), Parker Ensign, Jacie Gunter (Justin), Linda Laible, Erin Laible, and Jennifer Laible. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren; many other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia, Kansas at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 22, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be designated on his behalf to his favorite charity: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
