Timothy Wayne “Tim” Johnson, 48, of Salina, Kansas, passed away July 6, 2021 at his home, after a prolonged illness. 

He was born January 22, 1973, in Ft. Carson, Colorado, the son of Walter E. Johnson and Carol A. Henry. Tim graduated from Lyons High School, Lyons, Kansas, with the class of 1992; and later received his ASE Certification from Hutchinson Community College. He has resided in Salina since 2008, formerly of Hoisington and Lyons. Tim worked as a painter for Cessna, Spirit, and Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, and at Hodges Body Shop in Lyons. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most of all spending time with his family. 

On December 23, 2006, Tim was united in marriage with Beckie Dreiling in Hoisington. She survives of the home along with their four children, Zoie, Zylie, Zurie, and Zade; and their beloved dog, Ziggy. Tim is also survived by his mother, Carol Stewart (Mike) of Lyons; father, Walter Johnson (Chasity) of AL; and a mother to him, Denise Froehlich of Michigan; six siblings, Wally Johnson (Stephanie) of College Station, TX, Cody Luck (Jennifer) of Lyons, Neil Johnson (Jessie) of Michigan, Mandy Paterson (Keith) of Michigan, Stephanie Minix (Steve) of Lyons, and Michelle Richmond (Mark) of Rolla, MO; mother-in-law, Sharon Dreiling of Hoisington; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Tim is going to be reunited in heaven with his father, Dennis Luck; favorite uncle, Fred Henry; and best friends, Vern and Barb Stutz. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 12, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Pastor Joel Grizzle officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. She was born August 28, 1934 at home in Bushton, Kansas, the daughter of Leo and Minnie Withers Feist. Mary was a near lifelong Lyons resident, formerly of Bushton. She was a waitress at various restaurants. Mary was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Lyons. Mary was united in marriage with Richard Henry Doeden. He preceded her in death in 1980. On May 19, 2006, Mary was united in marriage with Leonard Eugene Scheuerman in Lyons. 

He preceded her in death on October 31, 2015. Mary is also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Wayne Feist; and two sisters, Margaret Killingsworth and Barbara Hughes. She is survived by her son, Rick Doeden of Lyons; three daughters, Terri Hernandez of Lyons, Shirleen Cook of Lyons, and Pam Brittain of Lantana, TX; two step-sons, Jim Scheuerman of Greensburg, KS, and Jack Scheuerman of Larned, KS; step-daughter, Sherry Headley of Mora, NM; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Harold John Gossman, 78, of Hutchinson, died July 5, 2021, at his home. He was born February 13, 1943, in Decorah, IA, to Francis and Mae (Ryan) Gossman.

Harold graduated from high school in 1961 and served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. After his honorable discharge, Harold went to work for IBM and Collins Radio before moving to Tucson, AZ, to work for Tucson Electric Power, retiring in 1999. A Hutchinson resident since 2005, Harold loved being outside working in his yard and volunteering for Friendship Meals and Sundance Farms. He was of the Catholic faith.

On July 15, 1978, Harold married Marcie Padgett, in Tucson. She survives.

Also surviving are: sons, Ken Gossman of Magdalena, NM, Bill Gossman (Rachel) of Ankeny, IA, Jonathan Wiest (Angela) of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Liam Gossman, Kinlee Wiest, Adyson Gossman, Noah Gossman; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Howard Gossman.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

Darold Eugene Bradford, 86, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 3:45 p.m., Friday, July 2nd, 2021 peacefully at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas.

Darold was born in Galva, Kansas on October 28, 1934, a son of William Clarence and Violet Berle (Nichols) Bradford.

Darold attended McPherson and Saline country schools and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1953.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in McPherson, Darold was Baptized on April 2, 1961 by Reverend Victor Trower.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a Electrician Mate 3rd Class on the U.S.S. Frank E. Evans and he received the Good Conduct Medal..

Through the years Darold worked for Graves Drug Store, Moody's Apco, Kansas Cylinder Head, Swick Guth, Sterling Drug, and retired after 20 years of service from the maintenance department of Sanofi.

Darold was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, McPherson, Kansas. He enjoyed working in his workshop tinkering and loved his cats and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Darold Eugene Bradford was united in marriage to Carol Lee Bever on April 22, 1961 at McPherson, Kansas where they established their first home together. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter and a son, Debra and Kevin.

He is survived by his children, Debra D. Johnson and her husband Doug, of McPherson, Kansas and Kevin S. Bradford and his wife Kim, of Wichita, Kansas; his brother William "Bill" Bradford and his wife Neva, of Mountain City, Tennessee; other relatives and a host of friends.

Ralph Roy Oden, 77, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Diversicare in Hutchinson, KS. 

Ralph was born December 23, 1943 in rural Sterling, KS, the son of John and Mable (Dyke) Oden. On September 15, 1977 he married Dixie Groves in Hutchinson, KS. Ralph attended Sterling High School. He worked for Dillons Bakery and was an oven operator and retired after 38 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge #982, First United Methodist Church of Sterling and the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union. Ralph had many hobbies and interests. He loved to sew plastic canvas and make canvas blocks for his great grandkids. He enjoyed doing word search puzzles, listening to audio books, feeding the stray cats and scratch off tickets. 

Ralph is survived by his wife, Dixie; daughters, Shelley Weishaar and Staci Eikleberry both of Hutchinson, KS; siblings, Donald Oden of Alden, KS, Allene Urich of Hutchinson, KS, Mike (Nancy) Oden of Hutchinson, KS, and Ronald (Deb) Oden of Lyons, KS; grandchildren, Austin (Miranda) Eikleberry, Nicole Tubbs, and Alex Weishaar; great grandchildren, Grayson Tubbs, MaKenna Eikleberry, Audrey Tubbs and Kynzlee Eikleberry.

Warna “Dean” Turnbough, Sr. |1947-2021|

Eugene Richard (Pat) Klaver, of Belmont, Kansas passed away peacefully on Friday July 2, 2021 at Kansas Medical Center, Andover, KS. He was 91 years old.

Pat was born on September 13, 1929 on the family farm north of Belmont, Kansas to Fred W. and Irene Madaline Miller Klaver. He was a Belmont High School graduate and attended Garden City Junior College for two years on a basketball scholarship. In 1948 he met the love of his life, Georgia Hamilton, at a dance in Harper, KS.  They were married October 22, 1950, in Anthony, Kansas.  They celebrated 70 years of marriage last October.  Together, they built a home on the family farm near Belmont where they raised their three children, wheat, cattle, and many dogs that became victim to Pat’s truck tires. Pat, a lifetime farmer, was also employed at Boeing for a number of years, finishing his career as a manager for Garvey Elevators for over 20 years, retiring in 1994.

When he wasn’t farming, Pat enjoyed life with his family and friends. As a young man he was known as a talented fast pitch softball pitcher. His other sources of enjoyment were taking summer fishing trips to Colorado with his family, attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, drinking coffee at the elevator, and teaching his grandchildren how to fish and how to cheat at card games. Pat was a member of the Norwich United Methodist Church. He was a 70-year member of the Kansas Freemasons, Norwich Lodge later transferred to Harper Lodge No. 206; as well also a member of the York Rite of Kansas, Chapter # 71; Kingman Commandery No. 34 Knights Templar; and Midian Shriners. Always one for a joke, Pat was loved by his community and known for his teasing nature. With a pocket full of Big Red and Juicy Fruit gum, Pat always greeted the community kids with a stick of gum and a smile.

Pat is preceded in death by his parents Fred W. and Madaline Klaver; brother Fred W. Jr (Hons); sister Betty Klaver Fieser and son-in-law Carl Durr.

He is survived by his loving wife Georgia Klaver of Belmont, KS; sister Alice Newcomb of Waldorf, MD; daughter Deborah Durr of Belmont, KS; son Bill (Donna) Klaver of Belmont, KS and son Michael (Angela) Klaver of Norwich, KS.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew (Jacque) Durr of Eudora, KS; Nathan (Tara) Durr of Cheney, KS; Taylor (Amy) Durr of Belmont, KS; Megan (Josh) Titus of Lebanon, MO; Kelsey (Daniel) Delp of Goddard, KS; Emily (Clint) Drosselmeyer of Kingman, KS; Sam Klaver of Belmont, KS; and Mackenzie (Michael) O’Gorman of Denver, CO. As well as 13 great grandchildren with the 14th arriving in November and an abundance of family and friends.

There will be a public visitation 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman, KS.

A funeral service for Pat will be held at 10am on Wednesday, July 7th at Norwich United Methodist Church. A memorial has been established with the Norwich United Methodist Church and the Norwich Fire Department.

Eugene Richard (Pat) Klaver, of Belmont, Kansas passed away peacefully on Friday July 2, 2021 at Kansas Medical Center, Andover, KS. He was 91 years old.Pat was born on September 13, 1929 on the family farm north of Belmont, Kansas to Fred W. and Irene Madaline Miller Klaver. He was a Belmont High School graduate and attended Garden City Junior College for two years on a basketball scholarship. In 1948 he met the love of his life, Georgia Hamilton, at a dance in Harper, KS. They were married October 22, 1950, in Anthony, Kansas. They celebrated 70 years of marriage last October. Together, they built a home on the family farm near Belmont where they raised their three children, wheat, cattle, and many dogs that became victim to Pat’s truck tires. Pat, a lifetime farmer, was also employed at Boeing for a number of years, finishing his career as a manager for Garvey Elevators for over 20 years, retiring in 1994.When he wasn’t farming, Pat enjoyed life with his family and friends. As a young man he was known as a talented fast pitch softball pitcher. His other sources of enjoyment were taking summer fishing trips to Colorado with his family, attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, drinking coffee at the elevator, and teaching his grandchildren how to fish and how to cheat at card games. Pat was a member of the Norwich United Methodist Church. He was a 70-year member of the Kansas Freemasons, Norwich Lodge later transferred to Harper Lodge No. 206; as well also a member of the York Rite of Kansas, Chapter # 71; Kingman Commandery No. 34 Knights Templar; and Midian Shriners. Always one for a joke, Pat was loved by his community and known for his teasing nature. With a pocket full of Big Red and Juicy Fruit gum, Pat always greeted the community kids with a stick of gum and a smile.Pat is preceded in death by his parents Fred W. and Madaline Klaver; brother Fred W. Jr (Hons); sister Betty Klaver Fieser and son-in-law Carl Durr.He is survived by his loving wife Georgia Klaver of Belmont, KS; sister Alice Newcomb of Waldorf, MD; daughter Deborah Durr of Belmont, KS; son Bill (Donna) Klaver of Belmont, KS and son Michael (Angela) Klaver of Norwich, KS.He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew (Jacque) Durr of Eudora, KS; Nathan (Tara) Durr of Cheney, KS; Taylor (Amy) Durr of Belmont, KS; Megan (Josh) Titus of Lebanon, MO; Kelsey (Daniel) Delp of Goddard, KS; Emily (Clint) Drosselmeyer of Kingman, KS; Sam Klaver of Belmont, KS; and Mackenzie (Michael) O’Gorman of Denver, CO. As well as 13 great grandchildren with the 14th arriving in November and an abundance of family and friends.There will be a public visitation 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman, KS.A funeral service for Pat will be held at 10am on Wednesday, July 7th at Norwich United Methodist Church. Darlene Schrock, 88, died July 4, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  She was born April 20, 1933, in Sterling, to Oscar Emery and Ova Catherine (Owens) Frye. 

Darlene worked at Lehr’s, before staying home with her children.  In 1979, she began working for Graber Furniture, making their draperies.  After Graber Furniture closed their drapery business, Darlene opened “Draperies by Darlene” which was located on Poplar Street in Hutchinson.  She eventually moved her drapery business to her Plevna home.  Darlene was a strong-willed lady, and enjoyed cooking, reading, playing board games and cards, and sewing for family.  Darlene treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On May 22, 1964, she married Billy Eugene Schrock, in Hutchinson.  He died August 5, 2019, after sharing almost 55 years of marriage.  They enjoyed living in their country home at Plevna for most all of their married life.

Darlene is survived by:  children, Barbara Jones (Dwane), Johnny Schrock, Tina Howell, and Wendy Batra (Jesh); sister, Sharan Bailey; brother, Brad Frye (Monica); seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; infant daughter, Patricia Lynn; daughter, Toni Trotter; grandson, Jeremy Ellis; brother, Robert Frye; and sister, Alba Frey.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. Tracy’s life began on May 31, 1966, in Marion.  

He was the son of Lyndon and Neva (Kelsey) Hett.  Tracy was baptized at the Aulne Church in high school. He is a 1984 graduate of Marion High School.  Tracy was united in marriage to Geraldine Bresson on March 16, 1996, in Las Vegas.  He worked with his dad for 11 years at Aulne Grain prior to starting Trace of Copper in 1990.  Tracy loved creating unique artwork in his shop at Trace of Copper and was well known as a gifted artist.  He was a huge KU Jayhawk fan, an avid hunter and fisherman.  Tracy grew a bountiful garden every year, competing with his dad for the largest onion, as well as being a “chicken grower”.  

His loving family includes his wife of 25 years Geraldine of Marion, daughter Allison Hett of Marion; parents Lyndon and Neva Hett of Marion; siblings Travis Hett of Moundridge and Dusty (Misty) Hett of Marion; nieces and nephews Ashley (Steven) Honeycutt, Jeffrey Hett, Brittany Hett, and Koby Hett; great nieces and great nephews Aaron Honeycutt, Brooke Honeycutt and Julian Honeycutt.  Tracy passed away at his home on Thursday July 1, 2021.  

His family will gather with friends on Friday July 16th at 11 a.m. at the Shelter House on the East side of Marion County Lake (look for green tents) for his Celebration of Life led by Pastor Jeff Lee of the Aulne Church. John L. Schultz, 89, of Buhler, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler.  He was born on August 1, 1931, at Hillsboro, KS., the son of John and Lena (Loewen) Schultz.

John worked as an auto salesman with Shep Chevrolet at Haven, KS. for 24 years before his retirement.  During retirement he sold glider rockers at Adrian’s A-Z Furniture in Buhler, KS.

John was united in marriage to Viola Ruth “Vi” Funk on November 8, 1952, at Hillsboro.  She survives.

He was a man of strong faith and was a member of Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. John had a love for cars, motorcycles, and sports.

He is survived by his wife, Vi, of Buhler; daughter, Donna Hensley and her husband Allan of Nampa, ID.; son, Darrell Schultz and his wife Christi of Buhler; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra “Debbie” Maberry and her husband Dave; sister, Alma Warkentin and her husband Albert; two brothers, Harry Schultz and his wife Bertha, LeRoy Schultz and his wife Lila.

Mary Ann Nault 85, died July 3, 2021 at Medicalodge Wichita.  She was born October 26, 1935 in Syracuse, Kansas to Alfred and Regina (Jantz) Klatt.  On April 3, 1969 she married Wesley R. Nault in Seattle, Washington, and he survives of the home

She moved to the Wichita area with her husband in 2005 from Fredericksburg, Virginia, and was an active member of the Sedgwick Christian Church.

Mary worked for Boeing in Wichita when she was younger and for the Hampton, Virginia and Mt. Laurel New Jersey police departments as an administrative assistant where she was charged with payroll and processing tickets among other tasks,

As she was raising her boys she was active in Boy Scouts and followed her son’s sports teams.  She worked concession stands at her son’s sports events and especially enjoyed making cotton candy.  In her retirement years she took up genealogy research and enjoyed tracking down and documenting her family’s history by going through newspaper and county records.

Mary is survived by her husband Wesley of the home; sons: Robert (Cindy) Nault, Scott (Pauly) Nault, Jon (Eileen) Nault and Wesley Jr. (Wendy) Nault; she is also survived by her sister Martha (Jack) Hooton, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents brothers Lawrence and Bill Klatt and sister Lenna Aldean.

Verene Eason 94, died July 2, 2021 at Bethesda Home in Goessel, Kansas.  She was born August 3, 1926 in Montezuma, Kansas to Peter and Lena (Wedel) Jantz.  On February 16, 1946 she married Homer J. Eason in Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2005.

Verene attended Meridian Baptist Church in Newton and worked in the transportation department at the former Northview Developmental Services in Newton.

She had a wide variety of interest including crocheting, drawing, tending flowers and bird watching. Verene also had a love of music and enjoyed singing, playing piano and guitar. Her greatest joy was being a mother to her large family and not only caring for them but also watching out for the neighborhood children which she thought as her own.

She is survived by her sons: Gary, Larry, Billy, Ronald (Cathy), Ricky, George, Homer and John Eason and one daughter Jolene Eason.  She is also survived by a Brother Dalin Jantz and sister Evelyn Jantz. She has 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.

Verene is preceded in death by her husband Homer, parents, sisters Neola, Sadie, Lilian, Elvera and Jane and two brothers Verlin and Ines.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday July 8th 2021 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Duane Moraine presiding.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home. A private interment will be in the Restlawn Garden of Memory Newton.

Evelyn Marie “Lynn” Miller, 97, of McPherson, died December 8, 2020, at the Cedars in McPherson. She was born July 3, 1923, in Hutchinson, to Henry and Gladys (Bobey) Lanning.

Lynn graduated from Hutchinson High School. She was a clothing buyer for Pegues Department Store, giving her the opportunity to travel all over the country. In their early days, Lynn and her husband loved to go dancing and spent most weekends at the Moose Lodge in Hutchinson. She loved bridge and played with many different groups. Family was the most important thing to Lynn.

On August 14, 1943, she married Donald Miller, in Tucson, Arizona. They shared 35 years together before he passed away on August 31, 1978.

Lynn is survived by:&nbsp; son, Doug Miller, McPherson; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; husband, Don Miller; sisters, Ruby Snyder and Doris Griffin; and brother, Wilbur Lanning.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. Fourth Street, Hutchinson, KS&nbsp; 67501. Evelyn Marie “Lynn” Miller |1923-2020|

Roy D. Harris, 99, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 30, 1921 on his family farm east of Coats to Frank and Mabel (Landon) Harris. Roy married Edna (Boese) Harris on July 17, 1949. They were married for 71 years.

Roy graduated from Coats High School in 1939. He joined the United States Army Air Corps in July 1942. He was a proud World War II Veteran, who served as a Flight Instructor, who loved to fly, in Altus and Enid, Oklahoma. He worked as a farmer and was a rural letter carrier. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and formerly a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed spending time farming, riding the tractor and driving around, fishing, deer hunting, traveling, doing genealogy, attending his grandsons activities and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter, Carla Harris; son, Roger W. (Barb) Harris all of Pratt; grandsons, Andrew (Katie) Harris of Rogers, Arkansas and Paul (Andrea) Harris of Manhattan; and great grandchildren, Lucas, Samuel, Margaret, Peter, and Lucy Harris.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis Harris; and sisters, Mildred Sanderson and Margaret Jean Releford.

Visitation will be Monday, July 5, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Larrison Mortuary with John Hamm presiding. Burial will follow at Coats Cemetery, Coats.

Roy D. Harris, 99, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 30, 1921 on his family farm east of Coats to Frank and Mabel (Landon) Harris. Roy married Edna (Boese) Harris on July 17, 1949. They were married for 71 years.Roy graduated from Coats High School in 1939. He joined the United States Army Air Corps in July 1942. He was a proud World War II Veteran, who served as a Flight Instructor, who loved to fly, in Altus and Enid, Oklahoma. He worked as a farmer and was a rural letter carrier. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and formerly a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed spending time farming, riding the tractor and driving around, fishing, deer hunting, traveling, doing genealogy, attending his grandsons activities and spending time with his family.He is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter, Carla Harris; son, Roger W. (Barb) Harris all of Pratt; grandsons, Andrew (Katie) Harris of Rogers, Arkansas and Paul (Andrea) Harris of Manhattan; and great grandchildren, Lucas, Samuel, Margaret, Peter, and Lucy Harris.Roy is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis Harris; and sisters, Mildred Sanderson and Margaret Jean Releford.Visitation will be Monday, July 5, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Dexter Keith Cotter, age 88, passed away on June 29, 2021 in Wichita, Ks. 

He was born on September 27,1932 in Harper County, OK., the son of Rex H. and Gladys P. (Gilchrist) Cotter. On August 23, 1952 he married Orma Lee Roberts in Buffalo, OK. Dexter served 22 years in the U.S. Army Reserves with active duty during the Korean Conflict.  He retired as a Master Sergeant. He worked at Boeing, the U.S. Postal Service and was a 32nd Degree Mason, all in Wichita, KS. In 1989 he retired as the Postmaster of Hudson, KS. Dexter was a kind gentleman who loved fishing, bowling and especially loved being with his family. 

Dexter is survived by his wife Orma, Wichita, Ks.; two sons, Doug (Connie) Cotter, Wichita, KS, and Chris ( Ann) Cotter,Wichita, KS.; a sister, Dorothy Barton, Derby, KS.; grandchildren David ( Claire) Cotter, Jeffrey (Megan) Cotter, Cara ( Eric) Smeltzer, Abbey Cotter and Eric Cotter; great grandchildren Braden, Lily, Evie, Violet and Hudson; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and Jerry; sisters, Betty, Darlene, Dixie and Jeanie.

Scott’s life began on July 7, 1968, in Charleston, SC.

Scott served as the Superintendent of Schools in Herington KS, Kingman KS, Queets WA, and Shepherd MT; and devoted his professional life to finding new and innovative ways to reach and educate his students.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed the outdoors and exploring.  Scott was a world traveler, visiting and working in the Middle East, China, Kuwait, Alaska and so many more destinations.  He was united in marriage to Andrea (Shomaker) on December 24, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion.  

He is survived by his wife Andrea of Billings, MT; children Kathlynn (Tyler) Neufeld of Hesston, Elizabeth Carter of Topeka, and Herschel Carter of Billings, MT., parents Gerry and Cathy Henderson of Marion, siblings Andy Carter of Chicago, John Henderson of Austin, TX, and Barbara (Adam) Henderson White of Covington, KY and several nephews.  Scott passed away on Wednesday June 30, 2021, at Newton Medical Center.  He is preceded in death by his father Lynn Carter.

Gale’s life began on February 15, 1952, in Winfield.  

He was the son of Millard and Laura (Parks) Shipman.  Gale is a graduate of Howard High School and attended both Pittsburg State University and Emporia State University, where he was a member of the ROTC.  He was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Penner on May 20, 1975, in Emporia.  Gale worked as the head zookeeper at the David Traylor Zoo in Emporia. He worked for the Zoo for over 18 years caring for their animals.  Gale was instrumental in establishing the Jones Park Disc Golf Course in Emporia through his work in the parks department.  He has many hobbies including stained glass making, being an aquarium hobbyist, RC airplane modeler, and recently a video gamer.  Gale had a great love for both Disneyworld and Disneyland, even going as far as to interview for a zoo position at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in its earliest days.  Gale was an animal caregiver at heart and certainly enjoyed smoking his cigars.  

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Shipman of Marion; siblings Ron (Connie) Shipman of Marion, and Pam (Martin) Sharp of Wichita; nephews and nieces Paul (Lori) Shipman, Lenn (Andi) Shipman, Brett (Angela) Sharp and Chad Sharp.  Gale passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Vernadene D. Christensen, 95, passed away July 2, 2021 at her home in Buhler. She was born on March 22, 1926 in Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Glenn T. and Minnie (Honeman) Smith.

Vernadene was a graduate of Elkhart High School. She worked at Eddie’s Dough Plant in Inman and provided child care for children who called her “Nanny”. She had a love for Arts &amp; Crafts, including crochet, painting, quilting &amp; sewing. Vernadene and Vernon attended many craft fairs, selling the many items they made together.  She was a homemaker and loved her time spent with family and friends, playing cards &amp; games. Vernadene was an excellent baker &amp; cook and enjoyed attending pot lucks and exchanging recipes. She was known for her cinnamon rolls and Red Velvet Cake. She was a member of Church of the Holy Cross in Hutchinson.

Vernadene married Vernon F. Christensen on December 14, 1945 in Elkhart, Kansas. She is survived by her husband, Vernon, a true soul mate; a granddaughter, Lora Carlson of Buhler; a sister, Glenda Dickey of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and many nieces &amp; nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cheryl Carlson; two sisters, Velma Welch and Nelda Rhoads; and one brother, Harold “Sonny” Smith.

Nancy Beth Shaw (born Royer) passed away June 29, 2021 in Wichita, KS.  She was 73 years old.

Beth, as many of her friends and family called her, was born January 22, 1948 in Sterling, KS.  She grew up in Alden, KS, the oldest of three children to Delbert and Helen Royer, until she went to college at Emporia State University, where she met Paul Shaw.  Beth and Paul were married August 17, 1969 and stayed married for the rest of her life. 

Shortly after they married, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy and they moved to the Washington, DC area.  While in DC, Beth's passion for reading spilled into her professional life and she became a school librarian.  They decided to move back to Kansas in 1974 to be closer to family as their own grew.  She spent a few years running a daycare while their youngest of five children was too young to attend school, but in 1987 Beth became an elementary school librarian in the Valley Center school district.  She worked there for 35 years before retiring in 2012.  

Beth was an extremely devoted person with a passion for service.  She was always willing to help cook or clean for an event, fundraiser, holiday, or any other special occasion.  She attended as many sporting events, concerts and plays for her children and grandchildren as time would allow, and was often an active participant in parents' clubs and organizations.  Beth enjoyed doing anything that aided or supported someone else.  Beth cared deeply for all people, and anyone who became Beth's friend was a friend for life. 

Beth is survived by her husband Paul; their oldest daughter Paula Smith and Paula's husband Dave, and their children Jake and Katie; their son Kenny; their son Mike and Mike's wife Sarah, and their daughters Anne, Olivia and Faith; their youngest son Randy and his husband Josh; their youngest daughter Cheryl; and her brothers Bob and Jack Royer and their families.

Beth will be remembered at a service at Christ Lutheran Church, 5356 N Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219, on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11 am.  There will be a visitation with family beginning at 9:30 am, and lunch will be provided after the service.  All are welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in her memory to Christ Lutheran Church or Trinity Academy.

Janice LaRee Conner, 88, passed away June 29, 2021, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson.  She was born January 11, 1933, in Pratt, to Walter Edwin and Elvira Belle (Meredith) Northrop.

Janice was a 1951 graduate of Pratt High School, Pratt.  She worked many years at Mennonite Friendship Communities in the housekeeping/laundry department and as a nurse aide. 

On March 3, 1951, she married Anthony ‘Tony’ D. McGraw, in Pratt.  He died December 11, 1972.  Janice married Wayne E. Conner, in South Hutchinson, on October 5, 1973.  He died April 3, 1988.

She is survived by:  children, David (Beverly) McGraw of Florida, Daniel McGraw of Hutchinson, and Ginger Shumpert of Wichita; grandchildren, John (Tina) McGraw, Jim (Angie) McGraw, Anthony McGraw, Kimberly Guerrero, Sean (Savannah) McGraw, Kelly (Bryan) Dickerson, Isaac Millett, and Alex (Morgan) Shumpert; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Conner; brother, Harry Northrop; daughter-in-law, Sherry McGraw; and son-in-law, Terry Millett.

Janice was preceded in death by:  her parents; husbands, Anthony and Wayne; son, Tony McGraw; daughter, Colleen Millett; and nine siblings.

Janice LaRee Conner |1933-2021|

He was born on October 21, 1925 to Albert and Anna Lehrman Schmidt at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton, Kansas. He grew up on the family farm near Goessel, Kansas, and attended the Tabor Mennonite Church where he was baptized on June 13, 1943. In the fall of 1946 he volunteered as a Seagoing Cowboy to help care for some 777 horses that were to be shipped to what was then Yugoslavia. He stayed involved with grain and small dairy farming for a number of years.

On June 4, 1954 he married Ilene Schroeder in Aberdeen, Idaho. They had met at Bethel College where Ilene was working for the president and he was working in the business office. To this union were born three sons, Rodney Alan, Charles Albert, and William Jon. After marriage they joined the Bethel College Mennonite Church in October of 1954, where Hartzel was an active member of the Sojourners Sunday school class.

Hartzel graduated from Bethel College in 1955 and received an MBA from Wichita State University in 1962. During the fall semester in 1969 while he attended a seminar on “Change in Higher Education” at Claremont graduate school the family lived in Montclair, CA. He was employed by Bethel College in various capacities in the Business Office for 18 years leaving in 1970, after which he worked at First Kansas Life insurance Company, followed by real estate sales.

Hartzel enjoyed doing things outdoors and with family, such as annual summer vacations in Colorado and serving as scoutmaster in scouting.

Always a strong believer in community service, he served as Mayor of the City of North Newton (1977-1987) and on the Boards for Kidron Bethel Retirement Services, Bethel Deaconess Hospital and Home, Chamber of Commerce, Harvey County Economic Development, Sand Creek Watershed, and Newton/North Newton Planning and Zoning. He was Treasurer at the Bethel College Mennonite Church. From 1993 to 1995 Hartzel and Ilene served two years as volunteers in Akron, Pennsylvania, at Self-Help Crafts (now Ten Thousand Villages). In later years, he enjoyed volunteering at The Et Cetera Shop.

A persistent raconteur, Hartzel always left laughs and jokes and good friends in his wake.

He had a long-standing interest in genealogy, family history and Mennonite history. He and Ilene visited the former Mennonite settlements in the Ukraine, and took other trips to Europe and many parts of the United States, Canada and Mexico. During his later years much time was spent reading, working on genealogy and thinking about matters related to theology. He also spent many hours listening to and watching Great Courses DVDs, a number of which contain revelations by scientists about our universe and our planet earth.

He is survived by wife Ilene, sons Rodney A. (Elizabeth Kintner) and daughters Laurel and Jennifer; Charles A (Janie Becker), son Adam and daughter Nicole (Terry) Asay, and great grandchildren Arlo, Alec and Amelia; William J. (Lori Voran) and daughters Becky and Rochelle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on July 25 at Bethel College Mennonite Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel College, Bethel College Mennonite Church or Kidron-Bethel Village.

Jerry Max Franklin, 86, died June 25, 2021, in the emergency room at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; He was born May 10, 1935, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Arthur and Ernestine (Ayres) Franklin, Sr.

Jerry graduated from Lewisville High School, Lewisville, AR, in 1954.&nbsp; He then proudly served in the United States Army Reserve.&nbsp; Following Jerry’s service to our country, he was involved in the skate business for 26 years.&nbsp; Jerry first owned Skatemor on 30th&nbsp;Street, followed by Harvest Skate Center in South Hutchinson. He then worked for seven years as the Reno County Clerk and Election Officer.&nbsp; Jerry was a member of the Prairie Pups Motorcycle Club, and enjoyed coffee and conversation at Spangles with his friends.&nbsp; He was a devoted father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family.

Jerry is survived by:&nbsp; children, Jon Franklin of South Hutchinson, Julie Franklin-Almadani of Colorado Springs, CO, Jessica Franklin-Jackson (Jonathan) of Johnstown, CO; grandchildren, Allison, Zachary, Zia, Jaiden, Hunter, and London; and half-sister, Waltina.
