Linda Lee Roelfs-Belden, 74, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on June 15, 2021 at Hospice House of Hutchinson. 

She was born March 14, 1947 in Sterling, Kansas, the daughter of Melvin “Chubb” and Betty Lee Elstun Nielsen. Linda graduated from Alden High School, Alden, Kansas, with the class of 1965; and later received her Cosmetology degree from Barton County Community College. She has resided in Hutchinson for the past 25 years, formerly of Lyons, Kansas. Linda was a hairdresser for Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River, Kansas. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #982 of Hutchinson. Linda enjoyed drinking coffee with friends and most of all spending time with her family. In 1965, Linda was united in marriage with Timothy Roelfs in Bushton, Kansas. They later divorced. On May 23, 1996, Linda was united in marriage with Dan Belden in Estes Park, Colorado. He survives of the home. 

She is also survived by her son, James “Jim” Roelfs and wife Debra of Leoti, KS; sister-in-law, Gaila Demel of Ellinwood, KS; two grandchildren, Madison Vasquez and husband Cyle of Tulsa, OK, and Mikal Roelfs and wife Christal of Dodge City, KS; two great-grandchildren, Elliott Vasquez and Kinley Roelfs; two nephews, Shawn Nielsen and wife Jennifer of Wichita, KS, and Brian Roelfs and wife Tina of Sterling, KS; two nieces, Julie Roelfs-Gattenby and husband Jeff of Bison, KS, and Shelly Ward and husband Matt of GA. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carla Renee Roelfs; and brother, Daryle Nielsen. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time at the funeral home with family present. Bettye Jane Gustus, 92, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away June 13, 2021, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. 

She was born March 4, 1929, in Mingo County, West Virginia, the daughter of Albert and Pearl Kirk. Bettye has resided in Lyons since 1947, formerly of Logan, West Virginia. She was a bookkeeper for Briscoe Oil Company in Lyons, and later owned and operated Howard’s Clothing Store in Lyons. Bettye was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons; member and past State President of the American Legion Auxiliary; member of the Lyons Town and Country Club and Ladies Golf Association; member of the 8 &amp; 40 Club, where she held regional positions. She enjoyed golfing and traveling. In 1948, Bettye was united in marriage with Darrell F. Huffman in Lyons. They later divorced. On June 25, 1976, Bettye was united in marriage with Clifford “Cliff” Gustus in Lyons. He passed away on October 9, 1998. 

She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, David Huffman; daughter, Debbie Laessig; son-in-law, H. Kay Laessig; four brothers, Marshall Kirk, Bob Kirk, James Kirk, and Bill Kirk; sister, Jean Cherpitel; four infant siblings; and infant grandson, Kyger Charles Rose. Betty Rose Peterson, 99, of Lindsborg died Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Bethany Home.  Betty was born July 3, 1921 in Lindsborg. She is the daughter of the late David and the late Tekla (Larson) Elving.  

She married Harry E. Peterson and was a devoted homemaker and mother.

She is survived by her daughters: Christine Shwaiko (Lex) of Stockton Springs, ME, and Kathy Peterson of Lindsborg, KS; sons: Tom Peterson (Naomi) of Emporia, KS, James Peterson of Hartford, KS, and William Peterson (Sandy) of Pleasanton, KS; as well as 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Harry; brother: Richard Elving; and son: Jon Peterson.

Justin David Ray, 37, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away Friday June 11, 2021.  He fought a long battle against lymphoma and earned the mantra JRay Tough.

He was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, on June 1, 1984, the son of Willard and Brenda ( Zahn) Ray.

A graduate of Buhler High School.  He went on to receive an Associates Degree at Hutchinson Community College and then his Plumbing license.

Justin went on to have a successful career as the owner of JRay Plumbing.  He also had a strong passion for ranching and prided himself in being a part of the local cattleman's association, raising black angus cattle.

He is survived by his partner; Deidra Rosenberger, daughters; Harper and Briley Ray and Emma and Meacy Rosenberger, sisters; Brand Parks( and husband Dan) and Heather Fogt ( and husband Chris), nephews and niece; Caleb and Joshua Parks, and Meagan and Brady Fogt, grandmother; Kaylene Zahn.  And last, but not least his beloved pet Kit.

Juanita E. Hershey, 94, passed away on June 14, 2021 at Diversicare in Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; She was born November 10, 1926, in Picher, OK, the daughter of Clifford and Lona (Swetten) Baysinger. Juanita worked as a housekeeper and dietary aid and retired in 1988 after 25 years.&nbsp; She was a member of First Church of God and Seventh - day Adventist Church in Hutchinson. On June 1, 1946, she married John McCormick in Columbus, KS, He died on May 25, 1993.&nbsp; Juanita later married William Hershey on August 10, 1997 in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; He died on September 24, 2005.&nbsp; Juanita loved to read, send greeting cards and going places with her daughter, Ilene.&nbsp; Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Ilene (Lonnie) Hougham and Velma Shipley; sons, John H. McCormick Jr. and Keith McCormick; siblings, Mary, Alice and Douglas; five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. Bruce Edward Marshall, 82, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2021, surrounded by his wife and three children.

Bruce was born on June 19, 1938, to Orris and Dorothy Marshall in Clay Center, Kansas. He grew up on a farm just outside the city in a house built by his great-grandfather. His only sibling, Keith, had been stillborn, so Bruce was raised as an only child but maintained close relationships with many cousins throughout his life. He enjoyed playing the baritone with a small orchestral group in his high school and graduated near the top of his class.

His family was devout and attended church any time the doors were open, and as Bruce grew older, he took a leadership role in the Conference Methodist Youth Fellowship. His grandmother Tippin had a particularly strong influence on his faith and had long desired for Bruce to become a minister, but Bruce himself didn’t feel the call to ministry until his freshman year of college. After receiving an English degree with a minor in religion and philosophy from Kansas Wesleyan College, Bruce went on to attend seminary at Drew Theological School in New Jersey where he received his Master of Divinity.

Bruce had grown up attending the same small church in Clay Center with his future wife Janice, but they didn’t begin dating until college. Once they were together, however, it didn’t take them long to know they wanted to get married. Bruce sold his baritone to buy Janice a diamond ring, and they became engaged on February 13, 1959. They married later that year on August 30. Together, they had three children, David, Stephen, and Becky, and formed a strong ministry team as they served in the United Methodist Church for 39 years. In total, Bruce pastored at ten churches, primarily in his home state of Kansas.

After being diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease, Bruce retired in 1998, and he and Janice moved to Olathe, Kansas and lived near their daughter Becky and her family. They enjoyed several trips together, including a trip to New England to see the fall foliage, one to California for the Rose Bowl, and one to Arizona to meet their great-granddaughter, Audrey.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Orris and Dorothy Marshall, and brother, Keith Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Janice Marshall; his children, David (Brenda) Marshall, Stephen (DeAnna) Marshall, and Becky (Jon) Burrell; his grandchildren Chris (Ginger) Marshall, Ruthie Burrell, Jamie (Matt) Meier, Joel Burrell, Josh (Haley) Marshall, Nathan (Heather) Marshall, Isaac Burrell, and Lydia Burrell; and his great-granddaughter Audrey Marshall; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Bruce Edward Marshall |1938-2021|

Lyle William Neville, 83, peacefully passed away at his home in 
Chandler, Arizona, on August 5, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. 
He was born on June 20, 1937, on the Neville homestead farm, in 
Benkleman Township, Cheyenne County, 18 miles southwest of St. Francis, 
Kansas; one of eight children born at this farm site to Monta Alice 
(Thompson) and George Neville.&nbsp; Lyle was the last surviving member of 
his prairie farming family.

While his family mourns the passing of their patriarch, his friends, 
former students and so many others mourn the loss of an irreplaceable 
man. Lyle was very special; a kind, humble and gracious person, with a 
natural ability to make everything better.&nbsp; Lyle was a stranger to no 
one, a trusted friend to everyone and was loved by all who knew him. His
 generosity of his time, attention and sincere interest in others was 
immense.

After eight years of elementary school at rural school district #9 
(referred to as “Neville School”, where his mother taught school, and 
named in honor of his fraternal grandfather, who had donated a plot from
 his homestead ¼ section of land), Lyle graduated from Cheyenne 
Community High School in St. Francis, in 1955.&nbsp; He was President and 
Salutatorian of his Senior Class, member of the National Honor Society, 
1st Team center of the All Northwest Kansas Football team, Co-Captain of
 wrestling and football and Homecoming King.&nbsp; He graduated from the

Secondary Education, Deans Honor List.&nbsp; In pursuit of his continuing 
education over the next 40 years, Lyle also attended the University of 
Kansas, Wichita State University, Kansas State University (Hays), and 
Western State College (Gunnison, CO).

On July 23, 1961, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Lou Coons, 
in Goodland, Kansas. Last month they celebrated their 59th wedding 
anniversary.&nbsp; A testament to Lyle and Bonnie’s lifelong love for each 
other was their amazing relationship formed and maintained with family 
and so many wonderful friends.

Lyle was a championship high school and college wrestler.&nbsp; As a high 
school wrestler at St. Francis, Lyle was special; he was one of Kansas’ 
first 3-time Kansas State Wrestling Champions (1953, 1954 &amp; 1955), 
he placed 3rd in State his freshman year (1952).&nbsp; Lyle and his high 
school teammates won four consecutive Kansas State Team Championships, 
under two legendary coaches (a total of six consecutive years, 1951 
through 1956).&nbsp; In addition to wrestling, Lyle was a 3-year football 
letterman and four-year letterman in track, where he ran the middle 
distances, relays and threw the javelin.&nbsp;&nbsp;

At the University of Colorado, he continued his storied wrestling 
career as a collegiate three-year letterman (freshmen were not eligible 
to participate at the varsity level).&nbsp; He was Big-7 Conference Champion 
at 137 lbs. in 1957, and took 4th Place in Big-8 tournament in 1959.&nbsp; 
While team leader at CU, Lyle competed in the NCAA Championship 
Tournament in 1957 and 1959.&nbsp; His amateur freestyle career was 
highlighted as Champion of AAU Rocky Mountain Tournament in 1956 and 
Runner-Up in 1958.&nbsp; He was Champion at the 1956 U.S. Olympic, Rocky 
Mountain District Tournament in Sterling, Colorado, where he was awarded
 tournament trophy for quickest pin in 13 seconds.&nbsp; He went on that 
summer to compete in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman in the 1956 U.S. 
Olympic National Finals in Los Angeles, California.

For 35 years, Lyle excelled in his high school coaching and teaching 
career.&nbsp; He was beloved and honored by thousands of former athletes and 
students.&nbsp; He always led by example and was such a great mentor to all.&nbsp;
 Out of college in 1959, Lyle was hired as a P.E. teacher, varsity 
wrestling coach and assistant coach in football and track in Sterling, 
Colorado.&nbsp; The following year he began a 10-year reign (1960 – 1970), as
 the head wrestling coach at Colby High School in Colby, the center 
hotbed of northwest Kansas wrestling.&nbsp; While at Colby, Lyle coached 12 
Kansas State Champs and 20 other wrestlers to 2nd through 4th Place 
finishes.&nbsp; In addition to his primary duties as a P.E. and social 
studies teacher, he also assisted coaching in football and track.

In 1970, Lyle moved his young family to Hutchinson, Kansas, to accept
 the varsity wrestling coaching position at Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; 
While at the helm, he led his championship team for 24 seasons 
(1970-1994). Under his leadership, HHS won two Kansas Wrestling team 
titles in 1973 (5A) and 1981 (6A).&nbsp; His teams had 21 years in Top-10 
Kansas State finishes in 34 seasons.&nbsp; In addition to the two team titles
 at HHS, his teams (Hutchinson and Colby combined) accomplished 2nd 
Place (three times – 1963, 1980 &amp; 1982), 3rd Place (four times – 
1966, 1974, 1979, 1983), 4th or 5th Place (four times), 6th – 10th 
&nbsp;Place (eight times).&nbsp;&nbsp; During his long tenure of employment with 
Hutchinson Public Schools (U.S.D. 308), Lyle also assisted in coaching 
football and track, and was in charge of the District’s Driver Education
 program for decades.&nbsp; The family often heard stories and memories of 
the young people of Hutchinson, learning how to drive in this 
well-attended summer program from the 1970’s to the 1990’s.

Lyle was inducted into the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Hall 
of Fame in 1995 and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Lifetime 
Service to Wrestling Award), in 2004.&nbsp; Kansas Wrestling Coaches 
Association honored him as “Coach of the Year” in three different 
decades (1978, 1981 and 1993).&nbsp; He was elected two times as President of
 Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association, two times, Secretary-Treasurer, 
and was a charter member.&nbsp;

In his entire coaching career, he led individual wrestlers to State 
Titles (25 times), including his oldest son, Brad, in 1980 and his 
nephew, Jim Coons, in 1981, 1982 and 1983.&nbsp; He coached athletes in the

Place (18 times) including his son, Lane, in 1982.&nbsp; He also coached his 
son, Morgan, and his daughter, Monee, was a varsity wrestling 
cheerleader.&nbsp; His wife, Bonnie, was the biggest supporter of all.&nbsp; 
Wrestling was always a family affair for the Nevilles.

Lyle was also a huge force in establishing the Kansas Youth 
Wrestling.&nbsp; In 1971, Bill Carroll, the Executive Director of the 
Hutchinson YMCA, approached him to start a kids’ program.&nbsp; The first 
season, 15 boys joined the Hutchinson Youth team and they participated 
in three tournaments--Andale, Colwich, and Douglass.&nbsp; The team grew 
immensely over the next few years as the entire youth wrestling movement
 took off in Kansas.&nbsp; By the third season, the Hutchinson Youth 
Wrestling Team grew to 70 boys.&nbsp; Lyle started the first Hutchinson Youth
 Wrestling Tournament.&nbsp; The first tournament was held in 1975, with 
about 300 participants. The next year, the tournament was moved from HHS
 to the Hutchinson Sports Arena and drew nearly 600 participants as more
 and more communities had started youth wrestling programs. The 
Hutchinson YMCA Invitational Tournament continued to grow in size and 
many years it exceeded 1,000 youth wrestlers in a one-day tournament.&nbsp; 
Lyle was involved in coaching the YMCA program until 1981. Many 
outstanding volunteers helped and assisted him in youth coaching and 
with his tournament efforts over the years, including many of his 
varsity wrestlers and assistant coaches: Gary Travis, Dan Powers, Mike 
Juby, Mark and David Sandoval, Jim Coons, Tom Coons, Brad Neville, Mike 
Vierya, Bob Mauck, Mike Baker, Mike Garcia, and many others, maintaining
 sound coaching staff and fundamentals working with the youth of 
Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp; It was this spark of exposure to the sport of wrestling 
that Lyle created which captivated many young boys over the years, 
inspiring them to practice and compete in an individual sport for the 
first time, and to come to know and understand the highs and lows of 
individual athletic competition.&nbsp; For most, this simple rigor and 
self-awareness helped to develop them into the men that they would 
become.&nbsp;

Lyle retired from coaching in 1994.&nbsp; After retirement, Lyle worked 
for 10 years (2005-2015), cutting fairways and greeting patrons at 
Cottonwood Hills Golf Course in Reno County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a huge part
 of the award-winning course and was extremely proud and fond of his 
time spent out of doors on this uniquely beautiful golf project nestled 
in one the best natural settings in central Kansas.

Lyle’s greatest of all accomplishments were his family, whom he and 
Bonnie nurtured, provided for, educated and supported in every way, and 
the lifelong personal relationships he formed throughout his life.&nbsp; His 
time at Cottonwood Hills was also one of his proudest accomplishments – 
in many respects, it may have been his favorite dream come true.

Lyle is survived by: &nbsp;his wife, Bonnie of Chandler, AZ; his three 
sons, Brad (Dena) of Hutchinson, KS, Lane (Kristin) of Scottsdale, AZ, 
Morgan (Sandra) of Chandler, AZ; and daughter, Monee of Chandler, AZ; 
nine grandchildren (each of whom developed and shared a unique bond with
 their ‘grandad’ or ‘papa’), Cole, Anna, Dalton, Elle, Ayla, Mia, Skye, 
Eden and Isaac; brother-in-law, Tom Coons (Kathy) of Chandler, AZ; and 
eight nephews and nine nieces.&nbsp; He will always be missed and never 
forgotten.&nbsp; The world lost a great man.

Ernest Earl “Ernie” Stackhouse, 87, of Medicine Lodge, KS passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, KS. He was born on November 30, 1933 in Geneseo, KS, the son of Bertha Stackhouse McKinzie. A resident of Medicine Lodge, KS, since 1963, he was retired from what was then the Cities Service Gas Company. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a lifetime member of the Peacemakers chapter of the Kansas Campers Association. He was of the Christian faith. On January 1, 1954, he married Audra Ann “Audie” Nodurft at Lyons, KS. Audie passed away on May 26, 2009. He is survived by one daughter, Rosemarie (Jim) Evans of Medicine Lodge, KS; two sons, Gregg Stackhouse of Medicine Lodge, KS and Bob (Mary) Stackhouse of Cunningham, KS; daughter-in-law, Carla Stackhouse of Medicine Lodge, KS; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Gerald did remodeling construction and was a bounty hunter. He was also a stay at home dad and loved spending time with his family. This was a very close knit family who leaned on each other very much.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Becky who passed away just a few weeks ago.

Gerald is survived by his two sons, Justin Brown and Anthony Brown; siblings, Robert Brown, April Chandler, Greg Brown, and Sam Brown.

Shirley Ann Wise, 78, of Beaumont, TX, died June 11, 2021, at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont. She was born August 18, 1942, in Hutchinson, to Ralph and Eula Belle (Alumbaugh) Williams.

Shirley was a homemaker and her granddaughters and great-granddaughter were her life! She also loved her dogs, Brownie and Tommy. Shirley was a member of First Christian Church of Beaumont.

In 1985, she married John Thomas Wise, in Beaumont. He died in 2015.

Shirley is survived by: daughter, Cynthia Summers (Jason), of Beaumont, TX; son, Robert Simpson (Danna Cruth) of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Jennifer Ann Summers, Sarah Summers-Lynch (Cory), Robyn Summers; great-granddaughter, Bryanna Summers; sisters, Pam Popp (Dan) of Hutchinson, Cara Jean Williams of North Carolina; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Darlene Miller.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. David Dubovich officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.

Lorenza “Lorrie” Terrones Lujano 93, died Saturday June 12, 2021 at her Newton residence.  She was born September 5, 1927 in Newton, Kansas to Thomas and Clara (Landin) Terrones.

On April 17, 1948 she married Angel Lujano in Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death in 2002.

Lorenza attended Newton High School and worked at the Hurst Poultry and Egg Company during WW II where she had many stories of working with the German POW that were housed in the area. After the war Lorenza concentrated on raising her family and being a loving homemaker, wife and mom.  In her younger years, she played on the Mexican American All Women’s Softball team for 12 years. She greatly enjoyed music and played the violin. She especially enjoyed playing the classical violin with her sisters.

Lorenza was an active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton where she was always willing to service and help. She served on the church Altar Committee for many years.  Her faith was a guiding light in her life, she prayed the Rosary daily and was known by her friends and family to be a “prayer warrior” praying for her friends, family and community.

Lorrie is survived by her son Ernesto F. “Ernie” Lujano; daughters Delia J. Lujano and Anna V. Lujano. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Parents, daughter Alice Marie Chavez and 5 brothers: Andy, Foster, Alfred, Gene and Leo and 3 sisters: Ventura Campa, Hope Gonzalez and Anna Terrones.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Friday June 18, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton with The Reverend Jorge Lopez, Celebrant. Larry Eugene Grochowsky, 63, died June 10, 2021 in Olathe, Kansas.

He was born October 13, 1957 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Bert and Jean (Kosminski) Grochowsky. Larry was raised in Newton for most of his life and attended Newton High School graduating in 1975.  From childhood through his growing years made many lifelong friendships.

On May 5, 1979, Larry married Dela Jean Van Horn in Newton.  He was married for 42 beautiful years to his bride, Dela. After four years of marriage, they were blessed with their son, Nick.

In 2002, the family moved from Newton to Olathe.  Prior to moving, Larry and his family were active at St. Mary Catholic Church where at this time he served as a member of the Knights of Columbus and where his 30+ years of Perpetual Adoration began.  When the family moved to Olathe they were members at Prince of Peace Catholc Church where Larry continued his 30+ years of Perpetual Adoration as well as being a Eucharistic Minister.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family. He took pride as an Inspector for the Johnson County Gateway Project. He had a special love for music and playing his guitar. His woodworking and many other home craft projects.

He will be remembered for his faithfulness in God &amp; the Catholic Church.  He expected and admired honesty from everyone and from Himself. He will be remembered for his talents in smoked meats for family gatherings. His ability to laugh and fill the room with humor from his jokes and so many stories from his lifetime.

Larry is survived by his wife, Dela; and son Nick and two grandsons, Benjamin &amp; Luke. Sister Terry Tyrell and many other family &amp; friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert &amp; Jean Grochowsky &amp; sister Shari Grant.

Gaylon C. Chamberlain, 81, died on Friday (June 11, 2021) at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born January 19, 1940, in Munday, Texas, the son of Cecil “Buster” Roy and Etta “Bobbie” Letha (Moore) Chamberlain.

Gaylon joined the U.S. Navy in 1958 at the young age of 18 and served a four-year tour before being honorably discharged.

On December 23, 1958, Gaylon married Belva Jetton in Goree, Texas. In 1971 Gaylon and Belva moved from Texas to Kansas.

Gaylon spent 42 years in aviation where he held various positions as a pilot, flight instructor, and was the Director of Standards for Flight Safety. Gaylon enjoyed teaching and training individuals to become safe pilots and always believed that “The best safety device in an aircraft was a well-trained pilot.”

Gaylon enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, hunting, and taking care of his many farm animals.

Gaylon is survived by his partner Joyce Nemec, daughter, Dana and her husband Dan Barnard of Newton; son, Scott and his wife Korri of Lawrence; grandchildren, Rebecka and husband Ryan Gierhan of Clay Center, Darian and Cooper Chamberlain of Lawrence, Joshua and his wife Brady Barnard of Bel Aire, Jennie and her husband Eric Skibbe of Olathe, and Jamie Barnard and his partner Robin Salley of Colorado Springs; great grandchildren, Ryleigh and Sawyer Skibbe and Cassidy and Aria Barnard; and many other beloved family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Belva A. Chamberlain in 2010; brothers, Kenneth Eugene Chamberlain and Keith Chamberlain.

Anneliese Frieda Stewart, 91, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 30th, while in the company of family members, at the Cedars House.

Anneliese was born in Berlin, Germany on June 27, 1929, a daughter of Ann (Braun) and Jonas Hans Krenz.

Anneliese attended and graduated from the Berlin schools, Berlin, Germany.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church McPherson, KS.

Anneliese was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Through the years she worked for Sterling Drug as a line tester and retired in 1991. She also worked at East Kansas Peter Pan and at Mr. Z's Donuts much to the delight of her children.

Anneliese enjoyed baking, cooking, and knitting for her family and the best part of her life was taking care of her family. She will also be remembered for her afternoon coffee time with her family and friends. She loved volunteering at the Cedars Coffee Shop while a member of the Cedars Village.

Anneliese F. Krenz was united in marriage to Junior Dale Stewart on February 8, 1949 in Berlin, Germany. Their union would produce four children, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren by the time of her passing.

She is survived by her children, Sandy Baldwin and husband Bob, of McPherson, Ray Stewart and wife Karla, of McPherson, Bruce Stewart and wife Kirsten, of McPherson, and David Stewart and partner Bill Block, of Wichita, Kansas; her seven grandchildren, Jenni (Gunner) Peterson, Jessi (Mike) Boughfman, Haley (Eric) Richards, Shayna (Luke) McElwain, Brandon (Kelley) Stewart, Kaden Stewart and Kadee Stewart; her

ten great-grandchildren, Ryder and Sailor Peterson, Kendall and Kelby Boughfman, Harper and Rory Richards, Gavin and Norah McElwain, Lauren and Brayden Stewart.

Dorothy Marie Sparks, age 100, passed away on June 14, 2021 at Kenwood Plaza, St. John, KS.  She was born on May 1, 1921 near Coy, OK., the daughter of Carl and Olga (Beyer) Schenk.  She graduated from High School in 1945 at Alva, OK., and later received her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Northwestern College in Oklahoma.  Dorothy was a school teacher for the Macksville Schools, retiring after 33 years of teaching there.  On May 17, 1947, she married Donald Lester Sparks at Hutchinson, KS., he passed away in 2009. 

Her memberships include, Macksville Christian Church, KNEA, NEA, Rebekah’s, OES, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Sunflower HDU, Macksville VIP Senior Citizens. 

Graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Farmington Cemetery, Macksville, KS., with Mike Benzel presiding.

Nancy Carolyn Anderson, 87, of Lindsborg died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Bethany Home.  Nancy was born January 26, 1934 in Manhattan, KS to the late Richard Paige-Herzig and the late Frances (Larson) Herzig.  She married David W. Anderson on August 25, 1954 at Salemsborg Lutheran Church. 

Nancy earned as Associates Degree from the Asbury Hospital School of Nursing in Salina, and she worked as a registered nurse.  She was a member of Salemsborg Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of WELCA.

Survivors include her daughter: Debra Johnson (Warren) of Lindsborg, KS; son: Dana H. Anderson (Janice) of Edmond, OK; step mother: Ann Paige; half-brothers: David, Michael, Brian, Doug, Richard, and Kevin Paige; half-sisters: Susan Miller, Jennifer Blanchard, Deborah Harris, and Maria Steele; grandchildren: Anna Anderson (Brenton), Tyler Johnson (Molly), Ashley Swan (Scott), Ian Johnson, and Emily Johansson (Petrus); great-grandchildren: Brynna and Marik Anderson, August, Frances, and Rosemary Swan, Otis and Harley Anne Johansson, and Brik and Soren Johnson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Voncile was born in Kingman KS 4/13/38 to Carl A &amp; Anna A (Brown) Bolinger.

Voncile was preceded in death by her parents Carl &amp; Anna and siblings, Joyce and Glen. She is survived by dozens of cousins and many, many former students and friends.

She grew up on the family farm near Cheney, KS. Attended 8 years of grade school at Pleasant Valley School in rural Kingman County KS. She attended High school in Cheney where she graduated as salutatorian of her class. She went on to college at Southwestern College in Winfield where she graduated with a degree in elementary education in 1960. And her teaching certificate in 1961. Her first teaching job was in Hoisington and then she moved to Ulysses and taught for another 40 years.

She was a longtime member of the UCC church in Cheney. The Baptist church in Ulysses where she played the piano. When she retired, she moved back to the farm near Cheney to live with her brother and sister and attended the TUCC church in Cheney. Where she stayed involved helping get food ready for the fair booth and baking pies. Her faith was amazing.

She was also a member of Eastern Star and Rebecca’s/Noble Grand, Tops; gas club and TOPS

Karen Beth Kelman, 60, died June 10, 2021, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  She was born April 28, 1961, in Wichita, to Dallas Lew and Elsie (Nickel) Macklin.

Karen graduated from Buhler High School and Pratt Community College, where she received her degree as a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse for over 20 years at the Via-Christi Burn Center, Wichita.  Karen currently was employed as a post-acute nurse at the Catholic Care Center, Wichita.  She took great pride in caring for her patients and residents.  In addition, Karen faithfully donated blood to the American Red Cross, and enjoyed sewing and altering wedding dresses. She was the ultimate caregiver; always putting others needs ahead of her own.  Karen’s greatest pride and joy were her four grandchildren, Brecken, Kash, Hadley, and Harper.

Karen is survived by:  son, Mathew Kelman (Jenna) of Hutchinson; daughter, Molly Willhaus (Clinton) of Nickerson; grandchildren, Brecken and Kash Kelman and Hadley and Harper Willhaus; mother, Elsie Macklin of Hutchinson; sister, Gina Meinen (Duane) of Maricopa, AZ; and former spouse, Steve Kelman of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dallas Macklin.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with The Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Newton - Joan Ruth Duerksen, 83, passed away June 12, 2021 at her residence in Newton. She was born February 8, 1938 in Lehigh to Dan and Rose (Klassen) Plett. She married Willis Duerksen September 13, 1956 at Gnadenau Church rural Hillsboro.

Johnny Dean Smith, 77, of Hutchinson, died June 12, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born January 14, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Oliver A. and O. Zay (Latham) Smith.

Johnny worked for many years on the road maintenance crew for Reno County. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, watching NASCAR, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Johnny loved Christmas! He would make treats and candies and dress up like Santa Claus to make the holiday special for his family and community. Johnny was a member of New Life Church of the Nazarene.

On April 21, 1975, he married Karen J. Vedder, in Miami, OK. She survives.

Also surviving are: children, Jeannie Steffen (Lee), Wendy Moore (Brian), Dwayne Smith (Angie), Candy Smith, Tammie Releford, Terry Hilton (Jodi), Nicole Hilton; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Frank Smith (Brenda), Karl Smith, Bob Smith (Connie), Rick Smith (Arlene), Georgia Waldren; and numerous extended family members.

Johnny was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Johnny Dean Smith Jr., and grandson, Jimmy Eugene Aston.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2021, at 622 N. Star, Hutchinson.

He grew up in Soldier, Kansas. He married Carol Pollock on July 3, 1958, they later divorced. He lived and worked in Topeka until relocating to Great Bend when they bought the Drummer Boy Restaurant. Bill’s passion was antiques and he became a dealer having shops in Lyons, then Ellinwood and then Lyons again. He traveled doing antique shows all over the United States. He loved the history of Ellinwood and worked to preserve that history. He owned and operated Starr Antiques in the old Wolf Hotel for many years. He loved to give tours of the underground tunnels. He moved to Lyons in 2011. He and his best friend Michael Gillespie owned and operated Starr Rentals. 

Bill is survived by Michael Gillespie; daughter, Jill Vierthaler and husband Greg of Spearville; son, Neal Starr and wife Brenda of Oberlin; daughter-in-law; Kimberly Starr of Great Bend; grandchildren, Alicia Stoltenberg, Rachele Vierthaler, Zachariah Starr, Mark Starr, and Paul Starr; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death in death by his son, Thad Starr; his parents, and brothers, Lewis and Richard Starr; sister, Lois Mae; and friend, Jim Elliott. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, Lyons, with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Robert “Steve” Robbins, 67, died at his home on June 11, 2021 surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 12, 1953 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Robert and Ruth (Gibbens) Robbins.

Steve was retired for the past 5 years and worked at Car Quest after retirement for the fun of it.

On May 21, 2004, Steve married Treva Crawford in Newton, Kansas, gaining two kids to love as his own. They were married for seventeen good years at the time of his passing.

Steve was always a kind, loving, ornery man. He loved to tease the grandkids and loved his friends and family. Steve made new friends everywhere he went.

During his free time, Steve could be found working in the garage on his Model T or working on the Model T he was building with his granddaughter. Steve loved to ride his Harley with his brother and friends.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Treva Robbins of Newton; son, Joshua (Heather) Crawford of Newton; daughter, Meagan (Josh) Wilson of Peabody; 6 grandchildren, Dylan, Dauri and Dean Crawford, and Arianna, Gage and Maddix Wilson; brother, Rod Robbins of Newton; sister, Rita Adams of Sedgwick; many nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Robbins, Ruth Huebert and step-dad “Red” Huebert; nephews, Jon Robbins and Jeremy Adams; father-in-law, Gene Redger; sister-in-law, Valora Redger; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Redger.

Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, June 15th at Petersen Funeral Home, with family to greet friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.  A memorial service will be the following day at the funeral home at 10:00am, Wednesday, June 16th. Following the service a luncheon will be held at the American Legion in Newton.

Ruth W. Johnson, 104, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at NMC Health Medical Center in Newton.  She was born March 6, 1917, in Moundridge, Kansas, the daughter of Frank H. and Anna (Dyck) Wenger.

She was a member of the Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite of Hesston.

Ruth was united in marriage to Orval Johnson on July 24, 1935 at McPherson, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on May 11, 1993.

She is survived by her sons, Edward (Hazel) Johnson of Demopolis, AL, and Frank Johnson of Faunsdale, AL; daughters, Anna “Annie” (Johnnie) Johnson of Arthur, IL, Janet Zismann of Macon, MS, and Christine (Kirby) Goering of Moundridge; 26 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Johnson and Carol Johnson of Macon, MS; brothers, Maynard (Vera) Peters of Stapleton, GA, John (Kathleen) Wenger of Walnut Hill, FL, and Glen (Kay) Wenger of Faunsdale, AL; sisters, Edith Koehn of Montezuma, Verna Schmidt of Macon, MS, Vesta (Verle) Peters of Walnut Hill, FL, Mary Ann (Jay) Nikkel of Arthur, IL, and Martha (Allen) Koehn of Moundridge.
