Clyde Richard Goering, a lifelong resident of Moundridge, left this earth at the age of 83 surrounded by his family. He was born August 28, 1937, to Jonas and Katie Goering, the youngest of 12 children. He was baptized at Eden Mennonite Church in Moundridge.

Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Felice A. Goering, of the home.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Katie Goering; nine siblings and nine in-laws—Meta Juhnke (William), Elmer Goering (Linda), Mary Ann Preheim (Delbert), Laura Krehbiel (Reuben), Harvey Goering (Viola), Philip Goering, Rueben Goering, Emil Goering (Lavina), Marvin Stucky, Donald Goering (Loua), Patricia Goering; and one grandson, Avery Miller.

Clyde attended Pioneer grade school and graduated from Moundridge High School in 1955. He then took his studies to Bethel College, where he graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. A Master of Science degree in Education from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia in 1970 rounded out his studies.

Following their graduation from Bethel and marriage on May 25,1959, Clyde and Felice began a voluntary service assignment at Junior Village in Washington DC, serving until 1961. They returned to Clyde’s home place to farm and start their family. Farming was Clyde’s passion. He loved working the land his father had worked and reaping the harvest. He grew the wheat Felice used for her wheat weaving. After cleaning the wheat for her, he learned how to spin the wheat into threads. He also learned how to weave some wheat on his own! He was Felice’s right-hand-man when they went to shows, events and their annual meeting of the National Association of Wheat Weavers.

In addition to farming, Clyde taught at Harmony, Liberty, and Cloverleaf schools before completing his teaching career at Moundridge Junior High School. He also coached Junior High boys’ basketball, served as custodian at Eden Mennonite Church, and worked at the Co-op in Goessel, KS, retiring in 2002.

In high school and college, Clyde was active in sports, playing basketball and running track. After college, he played second base with the Bachman Oilers softball team. He was involved in music groups throughout his life as well, playing saxophone in high school, singing in the Bethel College choir, the Eden Mennonite Church choir, the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Choir and the Newton Chorale and many Masterworks concerts at Bethel College.

After his retirement Clyde had more time to enjoy his many hobbies which included playing golf and pool with the guys (and making a hole in one on March 1, 2021, at the Goessel golf course), gardening and attending his grandchildren’s activities. His greatest love was his family. Nothing made him happier than gathering with relatives, whether that be a Christmas gathering, Easter dinner, or a family reunion with his siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. While he was a bit outnumbered with six women in the house, his patience and love never failed. He will be missed as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, bridge partner, pool team member and golf partner.

Family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 27, 2021 at Moundridge Funeral Home.  A celebration of life will be on Saturday, August 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Eden Mennonite Church, rural Moundridge, KS. LeWayne Edale Tresner, 58, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Hutchinson Medical Center. He was born on October 14, 1962 in Garden City to Lee and Lenora (Sharp) Tresner. LeWayne married Rebecca (Torson) Tresner on April 16, 1987 in Scott City, Kansas. They were married for 34 years.

LeWayne worked as a Tool Pusher in the oilfield for Sterling Drilling and Southwind. He enjoyed plants, fishing, hunting with his brothers and watching sports. He was a very humorous man and loved to give everyone a hard time especially his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; sons, Tyler Tresner of Wichita and Joshua Dearden of Iuka; brothers, Leon Tresner of Wichita and Lee Tresner of Texas; sisters, Norma (Jim) White of Virginia, Noralee Bertholf of Dodge City and Nona Tresner of Garden City; and grandchildren, Zachary Dearden and Bella Dearden both of Pratt, Tristen Dearden of Pretty Prairie, Veronica Tresner, Adrian Tresner and Cruz Tresner all of Pratt.

Peggy Thompson, 88, passed away 15 August 2021. Peggy was born in 1932 in rural Kearney County, the daughter of Earl Johnson and Florence (Kearns). Peggy attended school in Hopewell, where she met and married, Loren Thompson, in 1948. The couple relocated to Syracuse, Kansas in 1950, where they farmed and raised their family. Other than 3 years helping her husband run the Daylight Donut in Dodge City, most of Peggy’s life was spent as a homemaker, and a wonderful caring mother to their 8 children. Peggy loved to cook, and she was renowned for her homemade cinnamon rolls, and her egg noodles. Peggy also enjoyed gardening, driving trips, camping, fishing, and playing all games. She was a member of the Macksville Christian Church and the VIP Center in Macksville. Peggy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Loren Thompson, daughters, Susan Myers and Kathryn Kimbrough. She is survived by her, daughter, Patricia (Patrick) Goodwin, of Brighton, CO., son, Tom (Deborah) Thompson, of Ulysses; son, Gary (Tammy) Thompson, of Hudson; daughter, Denise (Dickie) Diehl, of Halstead;&nbsp; daughter, Donna (Bill) Culver, of Garden City; and daughter, Anita Scott, of Macksville,&nbsp; 22 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 10 great, great-grandchildren. Alice Cash Mills, 78, of Hutchinson, died August 15, 2021, in Denver, Colorado. She was born April 28, 1943, in Mexico, Missouri, to Juanita (Gribble) and Billy Jim Cash.  Alice graduated from Abilene High School in 1961, and went on to earn a BA in Art Education from the University of Kansas in 1965.

While at KU, Alice was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, where she met many life-long friends. It was also at KU where she met her husband, William Merrill Mills III. They were married July 10, 1965, and shared 52 years of marriage before he passed away in 2018.

Alice loved teaching and making art. She could often be found with a sketchbook and colored pencils drawing in her garden. Alice curated a full, colorful life in which she enjoyed her family, gardening, painting, drawing, quilting, and knitting. Alice will be remembered for the ever-present twinkle in her eyes and her ability to capture the beauty of everyday life, whether it be through a colored-pencil drawing, a watercolor painting, or a quilted or knitted piece. She delighted in sharing her talents with those she cared about.

Alice is survived by: her children, Alyssa Mills of Hutchinson, Hilary Lindsey and husband Troy of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, William Mills of Austin, Texas,  James Mills and wife Molly of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Nathalie, Allabelle, Claire, and Eleanor Lindsey, Finley, Lucy, and Anna James Mills; and brothers, Frank Cash and partner Stephen McCoy of San Francisco, California, and Dale Cash of Enterprise, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy Jim and Juanita Cash.

Don graduated from Larned High School in 1950, and then attended trade school to be a printer.  He began his career as a newspaper printer for Larned’s Tiller &amp; Toiler, and Dodge City Globe, before retiring from the Hutchinson News, after over 30 years of service. Don was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose #982, and a current member of CrossPoint Church, Hutchinson. He was soft-spoken, and enjoyed tinkering around the house and yard. 

On September 30, 1956, he married Marilyn Jean Nickel, in Great Bend.  She died September 24, 2015, after they shared almost 59 years of marriage.

Don is survived by:  children, Brenda Wandling (Todd) of Sugar Land, TX, and Curtis Cleveland (Laura) of Hutchinson; sisters, Shirley Opp of Lincoln, NE, and Betty Ewing-DeWitt of Haines, AK; grandchildren, Joshua Cleveland (Lindsay), Jeremiah Cleveland, Jacob Cleveland, Tyler Wandling, Ashley Wandling, Noah Cleveland, Caleb Cleveland, and Jordan Baggett; and great-grandchildren, Haley, Heidi, Bradley, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah, Jr.

Terry Curtis Ray, 79, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on November 18, 1941 in Pratt to Ross and Mary (McNearney) Ray. Terry married Mary Lou Ray in February of 1985 in Canyon City, Colorado.

Terry was a graduate of Pratt High School and UMKC School of Pharmacy. He worked most of his career as a pediatric pharmacist at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado.

He is survived by his children, John Ray of Springfield, Missouri and Sara Lohnes of Canyon City, Colorado; grandchildren, Jakob, Chloe, Saylor and Sydney Ray all of Springfield, Missouri; brothers, Keith Ray of Pratt and CJ Ray of Mission, Kansas.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents.

Ronnie Dale Jantz, 68, of Galva, KS, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Pine Village, Moundridge.

Ron was born February 10, 1953, the son of Virgil and Betty (Sitts) Jantz. They moved to Galva where he attended elementary and high school.

He learned to work hard and as a youth. He would ride his bicycle along the roads to collect pop bottles. Later, he would clean after hours at a restaurant and helped run errands for workers pouring cement.

Clock #96 was Ron’s number when he began working at John’s Manville in the Plant Services Department in McPherson. After 30 years, he decided to retire. He then was employed as a custodian at the Smoky Valley Middle School in Lindsborg. The next 11 years, he worked at Farmers Alliance in McPherson. He always had a smile and enjoyed greeting his co-workers.

Ron enjoyed camping with his parents and then with his own family. Riding his bicycle gave him a lot of enjoyment. He was patient teaching his children to ride bikes and then later, driving the car. He was known for always having a “clean” car.

The sound of race cars could be heard in the house on Sundays as Ron enjoyed NASCAR racing. The second year of marriage found Ron and Janis flying to Alabama for the Talladega NASCAR race, not to see relatives, just to attend the race!

Ron was always willing to help family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. When his children began their school days, he volunteered many hours at Elyria Christian School painting, mowing, trimming, and spreading sand for new cement floors. He was always supportive of any activities the family was interested in.

Ron and Janis (Hodson) met at a Christian singles group and were married May 17, 1980, at the First United Methodist Church in McPherson.

It was important for his family to attend church and participate in the weekly activities. For 43 years, Ron enjoyed singing with the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janis Jantz of Galva, KS; a daughter, Lori Klatt and husband, Bradly of McPherson, KS; a son, David Jantz of St. Joseph, MO and his fiancé, Caitlyn Powell of Manhattan, KS; two grandsons, Rylan and Kasen Klatt.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 19, 2021, at First United Methodist Church with Pastors Emily Spearman Cannon and Jeanne Koontz officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will follow the service at West Zion Cemetery, Moundridge.

Russell Carter Ehrlich (Russ) was born April 30, 1950 in Colorado Springs Co. Russ died August 15, 2021 in Salina, KS. 

Russell’s parents were Claude King Ganner and Barbara Louise (Waggoner) Ganner. Russell was later adopted by Barbara’s second husband, Clinton Ehrlich. He was a 1968 graduate of Lyons High School. Russell was a member of the Osage Nation. He served his country in Vietnam, before working in various machinist and oil field jobs until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Karen; his brother, David (Carol) Ehrlich of Brandon, FL, and Mark Ehrlich of Raymond, KS; his son, Bobbie (Jerri) Ehrlich of Manter, KS; a daughter, Christina (Britt) Hinkle of Williston, ND; his step-children, Kathy McLean of Little River, KS, and Wendy (Jerry) Parrish of Derby, KS; 7 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his fathers; his mother, and a sister, Anne. 

A graveside service will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery on August 21, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. Service will be directed by the Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. James Lee Bogner, 64, of Burrton, died August 12, 2021, at Harry Hynes Hospice, in Wichita. He was born October 3, 1956, in Hutchinson, to Vernon and Donna Block (Bogner).

James graduated from Haven High School in 1974 and went on to attend Hutchinson Community College to study engineering and music. He was a talented trumpet player and traveled to Europe with tour group of musicians. James was a farmer, and engineer in the agriculture industry, and worked part time at the Moundridge Post Office. He served on the Reno County Drainage District No. 2 board, as well as the Valley Township Cemetery board. James enjoyed woodworking in his early years.

On April 7, 1990, he married Karilynn French in Haven. They shared 31 years of marriage.

James is survived by: his wife, Karilynn Bogner, Burrton; daughter, Stacey; son-in-law; grandchildren; and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Tama Sue.

Linda Bartel |1920-2021|

Jackie Irvin Turnbull passed away on August 14, 2021, at Redbud Village 
in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 89. He was born on November 17, 
1931, to Irvin and Montie (Atteberry) Turnbull in Coldwater, Kansas. 
Jack married Nola Nadine Bane on May 7, 1951, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. 
They were blessed with four children: Tony, Brenda, Jeff, and Tracy.
 Jack grew up one of ten children in Stockton, Kansas, and attended 
Stockton High School. Following high school, he joined the Air Force in 
1948, and then he worked in the oil fields for Lane Wells until 1965. He
 worked for Standard Oil Company as a jobber until 1970 when he started 
Turnbull Oil, Inc. He sold his business to Jeff in 1991 so that he and 
Nola could enjoy retirement together.
 Jack was a member of the First Christian Church and had served as a 
deacon and a trustee. He was a councilman in Plainville, a commissioner 
for Rooks County, a member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the 
Plainville Fire Department, and a successful businessman.
 Jack loved being part of a large family which included many 
gatherings and reunions. As a young father, he enjoyed spending time 
with his family, playing games and cards, coaching many of the kids' 
sports, and attending all of their activities. Some of Jack's hobbies 
were fishing, hunting, square dancing, reading, and watching the Kansas 
City Royals. The most enjoyable retirement time was traveling with Nola 
in his fifth wheel across the United States. Later in his life, he loved
 spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as
 chatting over coffee with his buddies at Crawford Supply. From all of 
his experiences, he gave us strength, knowledge, and determination.
 Jack is survived by his wife Nola of Plainville; his children: Tony 
Turnbull and wife Cindy of Elk City, OK, Brenda Reiners of Hays, KS, 
Jeff Turnbull and wife Deb of Plainville, and Tracy Fellhoelter and 
husband Steve of Plainville; brother Jim (Judy) Turnbull of Hutchinson, 
KS, and sister Karrol Kirk of Hutchinson, KS; 14 grandchildren: Brett 
Turnbull, Jessie Turnbull, Travis (Sarah) Harrison, Grady (Chelsea) 
Foerster, Chelsey Foerster, Dustin Foerster, Jackie (Chris) Wehrli,

 Jack grew up one of ten children in Stockton, Kansas, and attended 
Stockton High School. Following high school, he joined the Air Force in 
1948, and then he worked in the oil fields for Lane Wells until 1965. He
 worked for Standard Oil Company as a jobber until 1970 when he started 
Turnbull Oil, Inc. He sold his business to Jeff in 1991 so that he and 
Nola could enjoy retirement together.
 Jack was a member of the First Christian Church and had served as a 
deacon and a trustee. He was a councilman in Plainville, a commissioner 
for Rooks County, a member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the 
Plainville Fire Department, and a successful businessman.
 Jack loved being part of a large family which included many 
gatherings and reunions. As a young father, he enjoyed spending time 
with his family, playing games and cards, coaching many of the kids' 
sports, and attending all of their activities. Some of Jack's hobbies 
were fishing, hunting, square dancing, reading, and watching the Kansas 
City Royals. The most enjoyable retirement time was traveling with Nola 
in his fifth wheel across the United States. Later in his life, he loved
 spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as
 chatting over coffee with his buddies at Crawford Supply. From all of 
his experiences, he gave us strength, knowledge, and determination.
 Jack is survived by his wife Nola of Plainville; his children: Tony 
Turnbull and wife Cindy of Elk City, OK, Brenda Reiners of Hays, KS, 
Jeff Turnbull and wife Deb of Plainville, and Tracy Fellhoelter and 
husband Steve of Plainville; brother Jim (Judy) Turnbull of Hutchinson, 
KS, and sister Karrol Kirk of Hutchinson, KS; 14 grandchildren: Brett 
Turnbull, Jessie Turnbull, Travis (Sarah) Harrison, Grady (Chelsea) 
Foerster, Chelsey Foerster, Dustin Foerster, Jackie (Chris) Wehrli, 
Quentin (Tanya) Meyers, Racquel Meyers, Ashleigh (Ian) Mabb, Keegan 
Turnbull, Kristen (Drue) Herl, Shanna (Jared) Ganoung, Jenna (Corbin) 
Kuntzsch; and 29 great-grandchildren.
 Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Montie 
Turnbull; brothers: Billie, Dick, and Ronnie; and sisters: Marguerette 
Hulse, Pat Toelkes, Jane Drotts, and Linda Normandin.
 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 
10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Plainville and a graveside 
service at 1:30 p.m. at the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday
 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00
 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Plainville.

Rosalind Andreas died on March 15, 2021 in Newton surrounded by her family. She was 79 years old. She leaves her sister, Ellen Goering of Boulder, Colorado; niece, Christie Schmid of Seattle, WA and nephew Matthew Goering of Fort Collins, Colorado; her brother-in-law, Jack Brubacher, of Edmond, Oklahoma and nieces, Laurie Lisle of Edmond, Oklahoma and Lisa Smyle of San Antonio, Texas; stepchildren, Joel (Ay Vinijkul) of Baltimore, Ronald (Dawn Blanken) of Pueblo, Colorado, and Peter (Kristen Lavallee) of Providence, Rhode Island, and four grandchildren: Derek (Fort Collins), Marley (Baltimore), Stella and Annika (Providence). She was predeceased&nbsp;by her husband Carl, her parents, Walter B. and Florence Haury Enns, and her older sister, Carol Brubacher.

Rosalind Haury Enns was born on November 17, 1941 in Newton. In 1963 she earned her B.A. in English with highest distinction from Bethel College, and in 1973 received her masters in speech communication from the University of Kansas. She began her career in education as a teacher and consulting teacher in the middle and secondary schools in the Shawnee Mission district. Rosalind married Carl R. Andreas in 1973 and relocated to the greater Detroit area. There, at Oakland University, she first directed the Offices of Commuter Affairs and then Student Activities prior to serving as the first woman Dean of Students. She continued graduate work at the Center for the Study of Higher and Post-Secondary Education at the University of Michigan, receiving a PhD in education in 1984.

Rosalind and Carl moved to Tucson, where she served as the first woman Dean of Students at the University of Arizona from 1985 through 1989. Following her service at the University of Arizona, they relocated to Vermont where Rosalind served as Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Vermont (1989-1995), stepping down to serve part-time on the faculty in the College of Education and Social Services. She coordinated the Secondary Education Program, served on the graduate faculty, and later presided as Associate Dean. Reflecting on her years in university leadership positions in student affairs, Rosalind observed, “We worked relentlessly to confront inequality, injustice, and to resolve conflicts to insure that students and staff alike can continue to learn, develop, and contribute to a healthy learning environment.”

Rosalind published works about educator preparation, student leadership programs, institutional planning, and commuter affairs. She was founding chairwoman of the Commission for Commuter Programs in the American College Student Personnel Association and served in leadership positions with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. She also served as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Mennonite Education Agency, working with three colleges, two universities, two seminaries, and elementary and secondary schools affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA. She consistently encouraged Mennonite institutions to embrace open and progressive perspectives and positions.

Rosalind always maintained close ties to her&nbsp;alma mater. She was the commencement speaker at Bethel College in 1987 and served two terms on the Bethel College Board of Directors. In 2003 she received a Distinguished Achievement Award from Bethel.

Rosalind retired in 2003, and she and Carl moved back to Kansas in 2012, settling in North Newton. She became an active member of the community, serving on the boards of the Bethel College Mennonite Church, the Kaufman Museum,&nbsp;and the Carriage Factory Art Gallery.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30p.m. on Saturday, August 21st, 2021 at Bethel College Mennonite Church, 2600 College Ave, North Newton. Masks are required at the church. Earl Franklin Showalter, 91 of Lyons, passed away August 15, 2021, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. He was born June 20, 1930, in Larned, the son of Preston Victor and Etta Johnson Showalter. Earl was a near lifelong Rice County resident. He attended Little River High School. Earl worked for the Lyons Salt Plant for thirty-nine years as a sewing machine operator, and for the City of Lyons Park Department for sixteen years. He also cleaned the Lyons Savings and Loan Bank for many years. Earl served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. He was a lifetime member of the former Lyons VFW and American Legion. Earl enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the Lyons High School Football team; going to Kanopolis lake; spending time at his cabin; and going to his grandkids’ ballgames. He was a volunteer for Relay for Life, and coached summer league softball. Earl was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. On May 3, 1951, Earl was united in marriage to Virginia Faye Evans in Hooker, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2010. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and daughter-in-law, Lou Ann Showalter. Earl is survived by his two sons, Joseph Showalter and significant other, Mia Barker, and Mark Showalter and wife Alicia both of Lyons; daughter, Cathy Briggs and husband Pat of Lyons; eight grandchildren, Melissa Webb and husband Rick of Lyons, KS, Mike Briggs of Great Bend, Jeremy Showalter and wife Kristi of Lyons, Heather Hardesty and husband Kyle of Bavaria, Justin Showalter and wife Ashley of Buhler, Heidi Coe and husband Jared of Nickerson, Matt Ankerholz and wife Hollie of Lyons, and Nicole Sander and husband Irwin of Haven; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Ruth E. Creasser, formerly of Sedgwick, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at her residence in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 92.

She was the daughter of Ausby J. and Alice L. Fry. She grew up in the Sedgwick area and graduated from Sedgwick High School in 1946.

On May 11, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage with Harold L. Creasser who preceded her in death on November 19, 2001.

Ruth had been a dedicated Red Cross blood donor and volunteer and was also an election board volunteer for many years.  She worked part-time at a local meat locker and in later years at a retirement home. She enjoyed reading, gardening, camping, fishing and playing cribbage and pinochle. Her main love was being on the family farm raising various livestock, enjoying her children, grandchildren and family. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her four children: Belinda (Forrest) Creasser-Goff of Harvest, AL, Cecelia Gwinup of Towanda, KS, Wayne (Mary) Creasser of Sedgwick, KS, Glenna (Ron) Gardner- Fowler of Valley Center, KS; a sister-in-law: Lila Fry of Olathe, KS.; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother (Edward Fry), two sisters (Helen Grattan and Clara Linden), two brothers-in-law  (Jack Grattan and Jim Linden) and a son-in-law (Doug Gwinup).

At Ruth's request, there will be no formal memorial service, especially in light of the current pandemic. Instead, she asked each family or individual to have their own Celebration of Life as they choose, but in a safe manner.

Patsy Anne Harmon-Fink, 90, formerly of Lyons, Kansas, passed away August 11, 2021 at Cedar Village in Ness City, Kansas. 

She was born April 16, 1931, in Ottawa County, Kansas, the daughter of Fred Henry “Pat” and Viola Nesbeth Hamilton. Patsy graduated from Wichita State University where she received her Master’s Degree in Secondary Education in 1984. She taught the seventh and eight grade English (Language Arts) at Sterling USD 376 for 25 years. Patsy was a member of the Southern Baptist Church, Salina and later First Baptist Church, Lyons. Patsy was married to William G. “Bill” Harmon. They later divorced. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2012. On December 26, 1988, Patsy was united in marriage with Joseph Oden Fink. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2013. 

Patsy is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Twila Isbell .She is survived by her four children, Gary Harmon and wife Chris of Knoxville, TN, Michael Harmon and wife Rhonda of Bennington, KS, Sue Ann Harmon Starr and husband Steve of Ness City, KS, and William George “Bill” Harmon Jr. and wife Debby of Spring, TX; sister, Marilyn Romm of Bennington, KS; eight grandchildren, Derek, Mark, Meagan, Kristi, Shawn, Stacey, Michell, and Lindsey; ten great-grandchildren, Tyler Edwardson, Carter, Jacob, Rylee, Taylor, Olivia, Ella, Dylan, Peyton, and Kylie Madison.

Doris Gene Heim, 84, of Buhler, died August 12, 2021, at Hospice House. She was born April 24, 1937, in Fairview, Oklahoma to Newton and Grace (Beck) Dyche.

Doris and her family moved to South Hutchinson when she was young and then eventually to Hutchinson. On November 27, 1953, she married William Walter Heim Jr., in Hutchinson. Together they had four children. Doris loved her family and they often went on camping trips. In 1978 they moved to Buhler. Doris had many different jobs, including: Bond Bakery, Bag Factory, Astro Motel, Scottsmen Inn and First Christian Academy. Her husband, William, passed away on May 10, 2011, after 58 years of marriage. In 2016, Doris moved to Buhler Sunshine Home. She enjoyed knitting and making hats for infants at the hospital. Doris also loved her dogs, Heidi, Benji, and Porky.

She is survived by: son, Alvin Heim, California; daughters, Shirley Brunn (Paul), Lori Howard (Charlie), both of Hutchinson; grandchildren, David and Sarah Heim, Bambi Brunn, Joseph Thayer; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Tanner, Kimberly, Alva, Cheyenne, Ty, Jackie, Dezirae, Natasha, Tabs, Benson, Hunter, Preston, Adriana; and great great-grandchild, Cameron.

Doris Gene Heim, 84, of Buhler, died August 12, 2021, at Hospice House. She was born April 24, 1937, in Fairview, Oklahoma to Newton and Grace (Beck) Dyche.Doris and her family moved to South Hutchinson when she was young and then eventually to Hutchinson. On November 27, 1953, she married William Walter Heim Jr., in Hutchinson. Together they had four children. Doris loved her family and they often went on camping trips. In 1978 they moved to Buhler. Doris had many different jobs, including: Bond Bakery, Bag Factory, Astro Motel, Scottsmen Inn and First Christian Academy. Her husband, William, passed away on May 10, 2011, after 58 years of marriage. In 2016, Doris moved to Buhler Sunshine Home. She enjoyed knitting and making hats for infants at the hospital. Barbara Jean Rhorer, 78, died August 8, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. She was born December 16, 1942, in Spearville, Kansas to Elmer and Florence (Haag) Kirkbride.

Barbara graduated from Kinsley High School in 1960. She often shared stories from her childhood and was quick to recollect how hard her parents worked to ensure the comfort of their children. Barbara fondly remembered the large family garden, her mother’s delicious cooking and canning, and the times she and her sisters would lock the neighborhood boys in the chicken coop.

She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell and AT&amp;T but found her true career calling operating a daycare in her home. Barbara truly loved all of her daycare children and considered them her “bonus” grandchildren. Barbara poured endless energy into fostering the growth and development of the children in her care, including birthday celebrations and frequent outings to parks and attractions around Hutchinson. She maintained contact with nearly all her daycare kids, continuing to celebrate in their accomplishments, and watching some become parents themselves.

On October 10, 1970, she married Stephen Rhorer in Hutchinson, Kansas after falling in love on a blind date. Before the date, Barbara’s friend described Steve as “big, hairy and kind of different”, but despite the unflattering introduction, it was always apparent the two were a perfect pair. The real highlights of Barbara’s life included the birth of her children and grandchildren. The family enjoyed many vacations, and not a day passed without love and laughter in the home. Barbara and Steve shared almost 51 years of marriage.

One of Barbara’s greatest talents was making each and every person feel loved. At every holiday and event, she would tirelessly work to decorate and give each person what they truly wanted, no matter how obscure. Barbara was a voracious reader, an avid KU Basketball fan, and a skilled seamstress. She hand-crafted beautiful aprons and embroidered tea towels, and even ventured to make impressive clothing and costumes for her kids and grandkids.

There are countless ways that Barbara will be missed, but we hope you’ll celebrate her life by finding joy in the simple pleasures: the warm colors of autumn leaves, the perfect gift with gorgeous wrapping, and of course her favorite sound of all, the blissful laughter of children.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Stephen Rhorer of Hutchinson; son, Kirk Rhorer (Patti Beedles) of Lawrence; daughter, Stephanie Rhorer (Chad King) of Hutchinson; sister, Kathy Kirkbride of Kinsley; and grandchildren, Patience Westby, Jade Anderson, and Isla Beedles-Rhorer.

Barbara Jean Rhorer |1942-2021|

Wilma Schmidt, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton on Saturday, July 31, 2021.   She was born on August 20, 1929, in Goessel, the second of six children of David F. and Mary Flaming Voth.  

Wilma attended Heimbaugh Grade School and Goessel High School. Not having a car, she and her siblings rented a room with a family in Goessel to attend school and went home on weekends.   After graduation in 1947, Wilma spent the summer as a live-in childcare provider for the Rex Moody family in Newton, then worked as a typesetter at Mennonite Press.

Wilma’s life changed after receiving a letter from Alvin T. Schmidt of rural Walton, asking her for a date to the state fair.  Wilma married Alvin on December 20, 1952, at Tabor Mennonite Church.  Together they raised four children on a dairy farm.  They celebrated 66 years of marriage on Dec. 20, 2018.

Wilma was baptized upon her confession of faith on June 9, 1946 by Rev. H. B. Schmidt and became a life-long member of Tabor Mennonite Church.  She taught children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served on Willing Helpers Sewing Circle and Peace and Social Concerns Committee, and formed lasting relationships as a youth mentor.   Wilma lived her faith, radiating love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Above all, Wilma loved her family and prayed daily for each one by name. 

Whether in baking, sewing, growing and arranging flowers, painting, piecing quilts, or making fabric art with nature themes, Wilma was a creative artist.  Together with another couple, she and Alvin became co-owners of The Quilt Shop in North Newton, where Wilma loved helping customers with their projects.  She designed and sold original patterns as Rose Brier Creations.  She always liked to have at least one creative project going, making quilts and wall hangings for friends, gifts, and the MCC sale. 

In later years, Wilma enjoyed travel with Alvin, Red Hat Ladies get-togethers, and Tuesday coffee at the Whistle Stop.  She liked to wear purple and eat dark chocolate. 

Wilma is survived by her four children:  Christine Schmidt of Vernon, British Columbia; Linda Schmidt of Kimberling City, Missouri; Elizabeth Schmidt (Greg Nye) of North Newton; and Emil Schmidt (Vickie)of rural Walton; and grandchildren Lucas Wiebe (Jill Worboys) of Coldstream, British Columbia; Patrick Wiebe of Acapulco, Mexico; Toban Wiebe (Daweon Ryu) of Johnson City, Tennessee; and Michael Wiebe (Laura Kwun) of Vancouver, British Columbia; sisters Hulda Schrag (John) and Darlene Schroeder; brother-in-law Milton Duerksen; and brother Elmer (Lynne ) Voth. 

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Alvin and grandson Nathan Aaron Schmidt; her parents; and sisters Esther Unruh, Alice Duerksen, and infant sister Betty.   

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at 3 p.m. at Tabor Mennonite Church, 891 Chisholm Trail Rd., Newton (rural Marion County).   Please wear masks.

Anthony C. “Tony” Reed, 83, of Wichita, died August 9, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center, from COVID-19. He was born January 25, 1938, in Hutchinson, to Harry H. and Alberta M. (Brada) Reed.

Tony graduated from Hutchinson High School and the University of Kansas. He worked as a photographer at the Wichita Eagle for 38 years until his retirement. Tony suffered from Macular Degeneration and, although his sight was very limited, he still had a passion for photography and took photos of his cat, plants, and created other still life photos in his home.&nbsp; When other photographer friends visited him at home, he encouraged them to try new ideas for their photographs.

Tony didn’t linger long in the hospital, being admitted on a Monday and passing the following Monday. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5805 W. 4th&nbsp;Ave., Hutchinson. It would be appreciated if those attending wear masks and social distance.

Anthony "Tony" Craig Reed |1938-2021|

On August 12, 2021, Diana Lynn Krieg received her well-earned, heavenly angel wings surrounded by multiple loving and adoring family members. She was taken much too soon at the young age of 63 by a disease many know all too well — Dementia and Parkinson’s. Diana was undoubtedly greeted with open arms by her parents, Gerald and Laura “Mickey” Stout.

One of Diana’s greatest attributes was her beautiful, broad, and stunning smile which would leave her blue eyes dazzling. She had a smile that would light up any room and heart. Thankfully, she not only passed this trait on to her two daughters, Staci Birney and Amy Frederick, but managed to sprinkle the same down to her six beloved grandchildren.

Diana was known for her ability to make a beautiful, warm, and inviting home. She did so by never sitting still! Diana was always doing, moving, and shaking. Any task she started was done diligently and exceedingly, which was much appreciated during her working years by her fellow co-workers at Dental Center P.A. and Southwind Oral and Facial Surgery and Implant Center.

To say Diana was an angel on Earth would not be an overstatement, as not only her husband and daughters would attest to, but her three siblings, David Stout, Pamala Hulse, and Brenda Chastain, will enthusiastically reiterate. Diana had a flare for the fun, the thrills, and all things nature. It goes without saying, for those that knew Diana, that she had a genuine love for music and Rock &amp; Roll. Turn on the music and watch her fingers start snapping, shoulders start swaying, and ultimately, she'd be found in a kitchen, a living room, or even a bathroom with her happy feet set in motion to the beat of her favorite tunes.

Diana was blessed to have experienced true love with her one and only forever, Ron Krieg. Take a page out of your favorite love story and you will know their life and love together. At the young age of 14 she began an 18-month courtship that thrived for the next 47 years.
