Judy Schrater, 80, passed away October 10, 2022, at Brookdale Tallgrass, Wichita, KS. She was born September 17, 1942, in Hutchinson, to Herbert ‘Pat’ Earl Haskard and Ruth Mae (Miller) Haskard.
Judy was a 1960 graduate of Hutchinson High School. She graduated from Kansas State University with a Medical Technology degree in 1964. Judy worked as a bookkeeper for Apple Lane Animal Hospital, Hutchinson, alongside her husband, Dr. Gerald D. Schrater. She was a member of PEO, Tri-Delta Sorority, and Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. Judy participated in the Stephen Ministry Program.
She was an avid traveler, enjoying the ‘Becoming An Outdoor Woman’ retreats, participating in archaeological digs, going on snow ski trips with the girls, and bowling. Judy raised multiple animals, including dogs and over hundreds of miniature Sicilian donkeys and showing many at the Kansas State Fair.
On June 6, 1964, she married Dr. Gerald Dean Schrater, in Hutchinson. They shared over 51 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 27, 2015.
Judy is survived by: her son, Cory (Suzie) Schrater and their children, Patrick, Courtney, and Parker, all of Valley Center; and daughter, Lana Craig and her sons, Callum and Daniel, all of Portland, OR.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; sister, Patricia Holmstrom; and son-in-law, Cameron Craig.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Jeff Isaacs officiating. Burial will follow in the Partridge Cemetery, Partridge. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
