Jane’s life began on June 14, 1922, in Pilsen. She is the daughter of Adolph and Christina (Stika) Rudolph. Jane attended school at the Pilsen Elementary School. She was united in marriage to Florian “Skeeter” Makovec on August 30, 1943, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen, concelebrated by Father Emil Kapaun and Monsignor Skelnar. Skeeter and Jane lived their entire married life on their farm near Ramona.
Jane worked as a cook at St. Luke’s Hospital and at the Marion Senior Center. Jane and Skeeter also worked as custodians at the Pilsen school. She was a faithful parishioner of Holy Family Parish. She sang in the Parish choir in Pilsen and was active in the Altar Societies in Pilsen and Marion. Jane was a member of the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed quilting at St. Mark’s Church in Marion.
Her greatest joy was her loving family which includes her three sons Ron Makovec of Lincolnville, Gail (Marissa) Makovec of Ramona and Allen (Louise) Makovec of Ramona; grandchildren Michael (Julie) Makovec, Jandi (Ben) Perry, Simon (Dana) Makovec, Shaina (Cody) Schafer, Caleb Makovec, Sheila(Travis) Hett, Amy Makovec, Lawton ( Hayley) Makovec, Adam Makovec, Rhett Makovec, Jody (Paul) Cope and Katelyn Reiff; 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Jane passed away on Friday October 14, 2022, at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Skeeter, and siblings Matt Rudolph, Pete Rudolph, Elizabeth Propp, Ida Svitak, Agnes Smolik, Cecelia Svitak, Petrona Krotz and two infant sisters Mary and Clara.
Her family will gather with friends on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen, where Rosary prayers will be offered at 7 p.m. Jane’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at the church led by Father Max Biltz. She will be laid to rest in Pilsen Cemetery.
