Herbert Lee Wagner, 91, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died October 22, 2022, in Kingman. He was born April 10, 1931, in a farmhouse in Graham County, the son of James & Maude Wagner. He grew up on a farm and started farming as a young man.

On November 26, 1952, he married Carolyn Nickelson in Hill City. They had four children. He farmed during the early years of their marriage. He also worked in the oil fields. Then after moving to Wichita in 1968, he worked in the warehouse at Fleming Foods for years. Upon retiring from Fleming, he carried mail for the Post Office for a few years. In 2002, he retired from the Post Office.

Before and after these retirements, he did a variety of odd jobs for himself, including garden work, lawn work, maintaining Maize Cemetery, cutting/splitting wood for sale, etc. Also, along with his wife Carolyn, they began breeding and raising exotic birds and traveling the U.S. to bird shows selling birds and toys. In his retirement years, he also built a house in the country, where he lived for the last 16 years of his life and stayed active cutting firewood as long as he could, one of his favorite things to do. He was a loving, caring, hard-working family man.

Survivors include: Spouse, Carolyn (Nickelson) Wagner; Children, Robert (Joyce) Wagner, Debby (Dave) Ingrim, Sheila (Greg) Alexander; grandchildren, Lisa (Somers) Arebalo, Angie (Somers) Jennings, Jason Wagner, Kim Wagner, Amy Kucharo, Jeni Kucharo, Brooke Alexander; great-granddaughters, Taylor, Abby, and Ava; and the newest addition, great-great-granddaughter Hazel. Preceded in death by siblings Vivian Fountain, Reece Wagner, and Nina Fowler; daughter & son-in-law, Pam & Dennis Somers; grandson, Jay Alexander.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman, Kansas. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery
