Jan Hannon Thomas, 81, The Highlands, passed away peacefully Oct. 22, 2022, at Hospice House- Hutchinson and is now home with the Lord and loved ones who went before her. She was born June 6, 1941, in Ft. Worth, TX, to Russell and Wanna Bee (Harris) Hannon.
Jan graduated from RL Paschal High School in Ft. Worth, TX, attended Christian College- Columbia, MO, and graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s in education.
On November 4, 1961, Jan married David Thomas in Ft. Worth, TX. They shared almost 61 years together. Dave worked for Sears which lead to the family moving frequently. Jan worked a variety of jobs and managed the home in every new town! Her all-time favorite job was working for the Chamber of Commerce in Derby, KS. She was active in the Hutchinson Women’s Christian Club, volunteered at Hospice House- Hutchinson for many years, played golf with the Hooters Night Golf group and gin rummy with Highland residents, was a part of a cancer support group and loved to travel, cook, go to casinos, be with family and friends and her pets.
Jan is survived by: her husband, David of Hutchinson; sons Scott (Janet) Thomas of Aubrey,TX, and Stephen Thomas of Hutchinson; daughter Lisa Thomas of Overland Park; grandchildren Jake (Sarah) Boyd, Amie Boyd, Seth Thomas, and Callie Thomas; and great-grandchildren Ryder, Norah, and Michael; and several nieces and nephews..
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Marianne.
Through the years, Jan’s unwavering warmth, sense of humor with a Texas accent and cheerfulness were a bright light to all who came to know her! Her love and dedication to family and friends will always be cherished. She will be greatly missed.
There will be a Celebration of Life honoring Jan Thomas at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 20, 2023, at The Cabin at Dillon Nature Center.
