Gretchen Kay Theisen-Halpain |1937-2023|

Gretchen Kay Theisen-Halpain, 85, died May 3, 2023, surrounded by her daughters and son-in-law.  She was born August 10, 1937, in El Paso, TX, and raised by Karl and Gladys (Stewart) von Metzradt.

Gretchen enjoyed working in retail sales, with cosmetics as her specialty.  In addition, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling (especially when she was a military wife).  Gretchen was a member of Countryside Baptist Church, and looked forward to the weekly Bible studies at the church.

On October 2, 1976, she married John L. Theisen, in Wichita. He died July 16, 1997.  On June 25, 2016, she married Charles Duane Halpain.  He died July 20, 2018.

Gretchen is survived by:  daughters, Sadie “Robin”  Lawrence and husband Terry of Hutchinson; Pamala “Sue” Green and wife Cindy Servantez of Topeka; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at Countryside Baptist Church, 819 W. 30th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Ron Kyker officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Countryside Baptist Church (to benefit the Christian education program), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
