Robert ‘Bob’ Harold Plotner |1941-2023|

Robert ‘Bob’ Harold Plotner, 81, entered the Heavenly Kingdom on May 1, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.  He was born May 10, 1941, in Thayer, KS, to Arthur William Plotner and Margretha Helena (Degenhardt) Plotner.

Bob was a 1960 graduate of Ingalls High School, Ingalls, KS, and attended Garden City Community College, Garden City, KS, until he had his first of two open heart surgeries at KU Medical Center. He was a semi truck driver for Gerber Oil Inc., Charleston, KS, hauling gas and diesel on many routes that included Hutchinson, KS, and Scott City, KS, for over 42 years. Along these many routes, he created many lifelong friends.

Bob married Sheryl Ann Murphy on August 18, 1968, in Stafford, KS.  Sharing over 54 years of marriage, and a lifetime of memories.

One of his all time favorite activities was coaching his children’s sports teams.  Bob made many lifetime connections through his coaching.  He coached many winning teams spanning over years, and mentored many young individuals.  Bob liked fishing and watching any kind of sports on television, especially Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and his KU Jayhawks. He spent many hours cheering on KU at  Phog Allen Fieldhouse watching KU games with his family. Bob enjoyed adventuring with his lifelong friend, Vyrl, riding motorcycles to the east coast, west coast, Canada, and racing cars.  He was “The Mechanic” and could often be found helping others, or working on a project car of his own.

He is survived by:  his wife, Sheryl A. Plotner of Charleston/South Hutchinson, KS; son from a previous marriage, Robert D. Plotner and wife of Larned, KS; son, Jason S. (Carolyn Wehe) Plotner of Cape Coral, FL; and a daughter, MeLisa Ann (Efrain) Gonzalez of Olathe, KS; and his two beloved granddaughters which he loved spending time and joking with, Sara Breann Gonzalez and Abby R. Gonzalez.  

Bob was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Donald Plotner and Gerald Plotner; and sister, Evelyn Woodall.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with the family present at Elliott Mortuary. Friends are invited to sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, through Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Elliott Mortary. Cremation has taken place.
