TOPEKA, Kan. — Governor Laura Kelly announced on Wednesday that nearly $16.5 million will go toward 17 short line rail expansion and rehabilitation projects. Three of those projects are in the Hutch Post area. These investments, made through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Rail Service Improvement Program (RSIP), will improve the state's agriculture supply chain.  

“These needed rail infrastructure improvements will lift up rural Kansas and, in doing so, will maximize the economic potential of the entire state,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “By strengthening agriculture supply chains, my administration is helping our farmers and ranchers connect to regional, national, and international markets.” 

RSIP recipients will use the funds for expansion and capacity improvements, major track rehabilitation, and rail replacement. These projects support rail improvements that enhance safety, expand carload capabilities, reduce truck traffic, increase operating speeds, and improve operating efficiencies.  

“Rail service lessens the number of trucks that would otherwise be on local roads and Kansas highways, which reduces roadway maintenance and rehabilitation needs,” Secretary of Transportation Calvin Reed said. “Having different modes of quality transportation strengthens our state and creates new economic development opportunities for Kansas communities.”

Hutchinson Transportation (HUTX), Reno County received grant funds for major rehabilitation of&nbsp;$586,906.

Central Prairie Co-op, Rice County received grant funds for expansion and capacity improvements of&nbsp;$880,110.

Mid-States Materials, Reno County received grant funds for&nbsp;expansion and capacity improvements of&nbsp;$911,826.

State funding for the 17 projects will be enhanced by a 30% match from each recipient, resulting in a total rail infrastructure investment of more than $23.5 million. The program received 26 applications requesting more than $39 million in total costs through IKE, the state’s 10-year bipartisan transportation program.

Area projects part of short line improvements

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — David Sotelo, the city's new Director of Strategic Growth, spoke at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

"I'm really excited about this position," Sotelo said. "I talked to a few folks already about this, but I've been pretty vocal about what my personal mission around the Human Relations Officer job was, which is making a Hutchinson where everyone belongs and thrives. I think that the job changes, but the role remains the same."

Director of Strategic Growth is a newly established position aimed at fostering sustainable growth, economic development, and community enhancement.

"I'm really excited to really be a good partner, to learn how we can engage our community on our growth, to ensure equitable growth for our community, whether that's the Downtown Master Plan, whether that's housing, figuring out how we fill the infill lots that the Land Bank owns, energizing the strategies of the housing commission, partnering with our downtown partners. There's all sorts of different projects that are happening. Mary Grace just keeps all of us on our toes. I'm really excited to be part of that and to be a service of our community. I love Hutchinson."

Sotelo will provide direction to internal teams including the Human Relations Office, communications, and a housing coordinator.

"We're unfinished, but we also need to be unafraid and be courageous about moving forward," Sotelo said. "There was a comment on the announcement a few days back from a gentleman who said, Hutchinson has more problems than this guy can fix. I think that's true, but I'm excited to take a stab at it and make progress for the good of all of our community."

Sotelo speaks about new job

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Sheila Meggers, Director of Finance at Hutchinson USD 308, was hired by Shawnee Heights USD 450 to be their next Superintendent following the retirement of Tim Hallacy at the end of the year.

"I'm sad in a lot of ways," Meggers said. "I started right out of college. I graduated from WSU and my first job was in USD 308 as a substitute, then I started that fall as a teacher. I have a long history in USD 308. This is where we raised our kids. This has been home for a long time."

Meggers was sought by the Shawnee Heights district for their opening.

"This was kind of a natural step," Meggers said. "In October, I wasn't really looking. In November, somebody in the Shawnee Heights community reached out and said, I think you ought to look at this. This would be a great fit for you. The more I looked into it, Shawnee Heights is a great community. The school district is within about 100 students of what Hutch is. The size was very similar. A lot of similarities in course offerings and programs and it just felt really comfortable. Last week, I went up and toured the district and really enjoyed it."

Meggers hopes her previous experience can help her as she continues her career.

"I am very excited about this new opportunity," Meggers said. "I've had a variety of different positions. I started in elementary. I spent a long time in high school, secondary, I've been an elementary and a secondary administrator. I'm excited about getting to do K-12. It's a new learning opportunity."

Meggers will start at the beginning of the new school year on July 1.

School finance expert at USD 308 to leave for Superintendent post

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson City Council member Jon Richardson is hosting what he is calling an 'out of town hall' this spring.

"I'm hosting an 'out of town hall' April 4 at 6 p.m. at Memorial Hall," Richardson said Tuesday. "I'm inviting people who have moved to Hutchinson to get their input on what brought them to Hutchinson, what they like about Hutchinson, what they wish was different, get their opinions and learn a little bit more about what brings people to Hutchinson."

Memorial Hall is one of the places the city is looking at renovating as part of revitalizing downtown, as well, so it's an opportunity for those new to the community to see the building for themselves.

City council member hosting 'out of town hall'

YODER, Kan. — The Liverwurst and Fried Mush fundraiser for Mennonite Friendship Communities is coming up Friday. The funds raised will pay for a special project this year.

"That is going to be supporting a new project that we have of redesigning the south entrance to our main healthcare building," said Dawn Veh with mfc. "That's what the funds are going toward this year."

There is a safety element to the construction, too.

"We're just getting some drawings from an architect," Veh said. "It has some fire sprinkling system in that area. Anytime we do that, we have to have drawings involved and send them to the state for them to approve."

It is a significant project for the home.

"The whole project is going to be about $125,000, with the drawings that we received last week," Veh said. "We will do this as the initial part of our fundraiser, then we will continue with that, depending on what the outcome of the proceeds are."

The event is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Journey @ Yoder. The church is about one mile north of the town of Yoder off Yoder Road.&nbsp;The meal is by freewill donation. They typically raise between $15,000 and $20,000 at the supper each year.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Dr. Janelle Shane is a researcher in A.I. which stands for artificial intelligence. <a href="https://hutchpost.com/posts/83c68678-77db-4ac4-87c1-ff2540f51858">Shane shared her expertise on the subject at the 2024 Ray and Stella Dillon Lecture Series on Tuesday, Jan. 20.</a>

Shane's first encounter with A.I. was at a lecture she attended as an undergraduate student. The lecture was about about a professor's work on genetic algorithms and how to imitate principles of evolution to&nbsp; evolve answers to a problem.&nbsp;

"He would talk about hey you would get this if you were trying to evolve a design for a flywheel," Shane said. "You would get a flywheel that worked but you didn't sometimes understand how it worked because nobody had designed it and nobody could explain it to you but it works and it's like this weird artifact. That struck my fancy as oh yeah this is a kind of computing where you don't know what you are going to get. It could be a surprise and sometimes it's hilarious. So he would talk about examples where it seemed to be working really well. Like this molecular structure it had simulated and then you go back and look at it and you say oh it put all of the atoms in the same point in space which is physically impossible but you didn't tell it not to do that and so that got me interested in hey what other weird things can I encounter if I work in this field."

<a href="https://www.sas.com/en_us/insights/analytics/what-is-artificial-intelligence.html">A.I. is a simulation of human intelligence that is processed by machines and computing systems.</a>&nbsp;It enables computers and digital devices to perform functions like read, write and talk. Examples' of usage include X-ray readings, identification of fraudulent transactions in the bank system and stock management in retail.&nbsp;

"I think the best applications for A.I. are these helpful widgets that are giving you data that you can use or not," Shane said. "Of things that you can check or not. So for example, I like not having to listen to all of my voicemails to find out what they are about. You know its not a perfect transcription but it works enough that it's super useful and saves me time."&nbsp;

Shane said there are&nbsp; A.I. dangers to watch out for. Mainly around the concept of passing A.I. generated work off as one's own.

&nbsp;"So how you are going to define plagiarism in this day and age, if you can't point to this paragraph and say oh yes obviously it does make it tricker to detect," Shane said. "And to point out and to use to tell people to stop but if you are asking about a moral line then there is going to be some fuzziness about it but this idea, of taking an A.I. generated summary, or an A.I. generated rewarding and saying there it is I've done it, its you know, you didn't do any of the work yourself, I would say that would be over the line."&nbsp;

Shane graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, a MPhil from the University of St. Andrews and a PhD from the University of California San Diego.&nbsp;

Her book on the subject of A.I. is titled "You look Like a Thing and I Love You: How AI Works and Why It's making the World a Weirder Place." She also has an AI humor blog, titled <a href="https://www.aiweirdness.com/">AIweirdness.com</a>.&nbsp;

The next lecture in the Dillon Lecture Series is on April 16. The lecturer is author David Grann. He authored Killers of the Flower Moon which documents the Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. The book has been adapted into a major motion picture. Actress Lily Gladstone won best actress at the 2024 Oscar Awards for her performance in the film.&nbsp;

"You would get a flywheel that worked but you didn't sometimes understand how it worked because nobody had designed it and nobody could explain it to you but it works and it's like this weird artifact. That struck my fancy as oh yeah this is a kind of computing where you don't know what you are going to get. It could be a surprise and sometimes it's hilarious. So he would talk about examples where it seemed to be working really well. Like this molecular structure it had simulated and then you go back and look at it and you say oh it put all of the atoms in the same point in space which is physically impossible but you didn't tell it not to do that and so that got me interested in hey what other weird things can I encounter if I work in this field."<a href="https://www.sas.com/en_us/insights/analytics/what-is-artificial-intelligence.html">A.I. is a simulation of human intelligence that is processed by machines and computing systems.</a>&nbsp;It enables computers and digital devices to perform functions like read, write and talk. Examples' of usage include X-ray readings, identification of fraudulent transactions in the bank system and stock management in retail.&nbsp;"I think the best applications for A.I. are these helpful widgets that are giving you data that you can use or not," Shane said. "Of things that you can check or not. So for example, I like not having to listen to all of my voicemails to find out what they are about. You know its not a perfect transcription but it works enough that it's super useful and saves me time."&nbsp;Shane said there are&nbsp; A.I. dangers to watch out for. Mainly around the concept of passing A.I. generated work off as one's own.&nbsp;"So how you are going to define plagiarism in this day and age, if you can't point to this paragraph and say oh yes obviously it does make it tricker to detect," Shane said. "And to point out and to use to tell people to stop but if you are asking about a moral line then there is going to be some fuzziness about it but this idea, of taking an A.I. generated summary, or an A.I. generated rewarding and saying there it is I've done it, its you know, you didn't do any of the work yourself, I would say that would be over the line."&nbsp;Shane graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, a MPhil from the University of St. Andrews and a PhD from the University of California San Diego.&nbsp;Her book on the subject of A.I. is titled "You look Like a Thing and I Love You: How AI Works and Why It's making the World a Weirder Place." A.I. lecturer presents findings at Dillon Lecture Series

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council approved the 2024 Residential Street Maintenance project bid at their meeting on Tuesday.

The area of the project is the portion of the city east of K-61 highway for 2024.

"There's an eight year cycle," said Brad Shores with JEO Consulting, who is doing the city's engineering work for this project. "Each color represents one year in that cycle. Every residential street will be touched every eight years. This has been going on for a while, so we're kind of on the east side of Hutch with this program. I can say, compared to what other communities are doing, I think Hutchinson is doing some really good work by doing this, by at least hitting all the streets every eight years, as there are many communities that are never touching their streets."

The City contracts for both Crack Seal and Chip Seal as part of the yearly maintenance.

Crack Seal: The first and most economical line of defense for pavement preservation is sealing the cracks to help prevent water from getting into the street. Crack sealing involves cleaning out and placing a hot applied asphalt-based sealer in the cracks.

Chip Seal: This involves spraying a thin film of heated asphalt emulsion on the road surface, followed by the placement of small aggregate (chips). The chips are then compacted into the asphalt layer and excess chips are swept from the surface over the next few days.

The council approved the low bid of Circle C Paving and Construction in the amount of $1,479,940.00.

Consultant agrees with Hutch residential streets process

GODDARD, Kan. — Since his birth in December, the endangered pygmy hippo calf at Tanganyika Wildlife Park has captured the hearts of many. A social media sensation, the youngster has garnered over 25 million views across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook since his arrival. Today, the park proudly shares his name: Latke! Pronounced lot-kuh, inspired by his birth during Hannukah, his name reflects the traditional Hannukah potato dish, reflecting his endearing round physique. The fourth calf of parents Pluto and Posie, Latke is thriving. He has more than tripled his weight to 46.8 lbs, and he is meeting all developmental milestones with flying colors.

Latke's fan base serves a deeper purpose beyond spreading daily doses of cuteness worldwide. He serves as a vital ambassador for his species, shedding light on the challenges facing the pygmy hippo, a creature many are unaware of. With fewer than 4,000 individuals remaining in their native habitat in Central Africa, breeding pygmy hippos in accredited zoological facilities is increasingly important.

As Latke continues to grow, he’s begun a training program. "Establishing trusting relationships is an important part of our husbandry training program," explains Keeper Sierra Smith. "It enables us to condition complex behaviors like blood draws and nail trims, allowing our animals to actively participate in their healthcare."

This progress means Latke and his hippo family will be ready to welcome visitors to their behind-the-scenes home starting in August of 2024. While Latke still has some more training to do, starting today, visitors can book a unique Pygmy Hippo Meet and Greet, the only encounter of its kind in the United States. Participants will venture into the hippo barn, touch a hippo, engage in a training session, and watch one of the hippos create nose-print paintings as souvenirs of their special experience.

Beginning March 9th, when the park reopens for the season, guests can visit Latke and his parents daily in their habitat. Tanganyika visitors can also enjoy feeding the hippos, one of nine distinct feeding encounter stations designed to bring guests "close enough to care."

Tanganyika announces hippo name

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Interim Hutchinson City Manager Mary Grace Clements said they are taking applications again for her permanent replacement.

"Applicants are being taken up until Feb. 29," Clements said. "We have an extra day this month. Once that closes, we're going to begin interviews the first week in March. That's the game plan."

Clements is going to stick around and allow for a smooth transition between her and whoever gets the permanent job.

"I'm going to be doing town meetings," Clements said. "Truth be told, I had town meetings on my agenda, because I thought I'd be introducing, at this point, the new city manager, but that's okay. We did a town meeting with Mr. Garza's region Saturday. It's a way to get information. It's a way to have two-way communication with the residents. I appreciate it."

The rest of those meetings will be in March.

"I want to talk about, how are we going to do, if they want to do night meetings?" Clements said. "There's much discussion about that. I'd like to hear from the community. We've talked about noise issues. There's different things that have come to the council via the five-minute open area that really, we should like to open up larger. Maybe we'll have just a work study session one night to see if we can get people to buy in."

Clements will let us know when she has the dates set for those town hall meetings.

Clements: Applications for permanent manager back open

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Inflation is having an impact on local businesses, especially as they compete for workforce.

"The inflation effect on wages is a real thing," said Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce CEO Debra Teufel. "Every employer basically said they had to increase wages last year, just to keep up with inflation. Some of these numbers way outpace inflation. Thirty-two percent increased wages less than five percent. Thirty-six percent said they were increasing them six to ten percent, so that's, I would say, inflation adjusted. Then, you've got another 32% that increased wages more than 11%."

It's not all inflation, though, it is about keeping people working closer to home.

"Some of that is inflation effect, but some of that goes back to employers that were listening to the wage outlooks that Jeremy Hill provided at our forum last year, showed that Reno County wages were significantly lagging the state of Kansas and the nation. It was one of the things that is holding us back and we're not just lagging Kansas. When we are in, basically, the labor market with Wichita, we were lagging the Sedgwick County averages by somewhere between 11 to 15%."

That is a big piece of what will slow future growth, especially in an environment where wages will have to continue to keep up with inflation, even as the rate begins to slow.

"The recognition by the employers is, in order to attract a workforce, we've got to keep up," Teufel said. "It was one of the things that Jeremy [Hill, from Wichita State University] hammered home at outlook conference was, we don't have a labor issue in our state. We have a wage issue."

According to Wichita State, the employment outlook for Wichita is strong despite the tight labor conditions. The 2024 forecast is 0.7%, or almost 2,300 net new jobs.

Fundraiser for Big Brothers, Big Sisters next month

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Monthly's children's art projects have returned to the Hutchinson Art Center. There will be more make-and-take art projects for children on February 24.

This is an opportunity for children aged 6 through 12 to create their own work of art! 

Students will be divided into two groups: Group A (1:00 - 2:30 p.m.) and Group B (3:00 - 4:30 p.m.), with each group covering different skills.

Group A will be making acrylic monoprints and learn about printmaking as a medium and explore subtractive methods of mark making. Children will experiment with making different textures and shapes using a variety of tools to create unique compositions. After multiple prints are made and dry, children will have the choice to add colored pencils to one or more prints they made if time allows.

Group B will be making a mixed media acrylic monoprint and learn about printmaking as a medium and explore subtractive methods of mark making using a variety of tools. Students will also create their own stencil which they may incorporate into their print. After multiple prints are made, children will have the opportunity to add colored pencils to one or more prints. The group will discuss movement, abstraction in art, pattern, texture, and using analogous colors to create unique compositions.

There will be more make-and-take art projects for children on February 24.This is an opportunity for children aged 6 through 12 to create their own work of art! Students will be divided into two groups: Group A (1:00 - 2:30 p.m.) and Group B (3:00 - 4:30 p.m.), with each group covering different skills.Group A will be making acrylic monoprints and learn about printmaking as a medium and explore subtractive methods of mark making. Children will experiment with making different textures and shapes using a variety of tools to create unique compositions. After multiple prints are made and dry, children will have the choice to add colored pencils to one or more prints they made if time allows.Group B will be making a mixed media acrylic monoprint and learn about printmaking as a medium and explore subtractive methods of mark making using a variety of tools. Students will also create their own stencil which they may incorporate into their print. Children's art classes are back Saturday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote if you want to participate in the Presidential Preference Primary on March 19. If you want to change parties to vote in the primary for a different one, that is your deadline.

Feb. 20 is also the last day to apply for an advance voting mail ballot.&nbsp;

Advance voting at the Reno County Annex begins Feb. 28 and will be available weekdays during regular business hours up through noon on March 18.

SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Cheney Lake Watershed will be hosting "A Look at Fence Laws in Kansas" Thursday, February 29th 2024 at the South Hutchinson Community Center.&nbsp;

Roger McEowen, the Professor of Agricultural Law and Taxation at Washburn University School of Law, will help those who attend look at some of the laws surrounding fence in Kansas. You'll learn what a legal fence is in Kansas and who is responsible to pay for it.

McEowen to speak on fence law in South Hutch

OSAGE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new drug allegations.

Just after 4:30 p.m. Feb. 15, an Osage County Sheriff’s Department investigator conducted a traffic stop at 4th and Lincoln Street in Osage City for a traffic violation, according to Sheriff Chris Wells.

During the stop, illegal narcotics were located. The driver of the vehicle, David A. Cannon, 39, of Osage City was taken into custody and transported to the Osage County Jail Facility on requested charges of Possession of methamphetamine and Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cannon has previous convictions for drug possession in Pratt County in 2019&nbsp; and interference with law enforcement in Stafford County in 2020, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

In the next couple of weeks each of Kansas Farm Bureau’s 10 districts will be holding their issue surfacing meetings. I am a little late with this for a couple of districts, and I apologize to the 2nd&nbsp;and 4th&nbsp;districts. Good timing has never been my thing. This is the beginning of our policy development process and something I would hope each member is involved in.

The fact that Kansas Farm Bureau’s (KFB) policy is completely developed from members bringing their issues forward is what gives our organization its influence. Legislators know each of our policy items were important enough to an individual to speak up and a majority of all our members felt it was worth addressing through policy.

If you are not familiar with our issue surfacing meeting, it is an opportunity for members to bring issues and concerns to KFB’s Resolutions Committee for further discussion and study. Often the committee members, district board member and KFB staff will have speakers to provide timely education.

The best part about this process is it often sparks a discussion by other members at the meeting which can awareness of an issue. It also is a time when we can see if the issue is one of greater concern or more localized in nature.

I would encourage you to find out when and where your district’s issue surfacing meeting is. They are all scheduled for the next month. If you are in a district that has already met, or you will not be able to attend your district’s meeting you can submit an issue at <a href="http://www.kfb.org/advocacy">www.kfb.org/advocacy</a>.

Issues raised will be considered by the resolutions committee at its spring meeting. That topic will be discussed and, depending on committee action, preliminary policy may be developed throughout the spring and summer.

Other issues may be referred to the board of directors or sent to staff for further study. The results of the committee’s work will be the subject of our Listening Post meetings in every district this fall. Based on the results of those discussions the final policy recommendations will be made.

Then in December at Kansas Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting the delegates will discuss and vote on the final policy recommendations that will go into our policy book and will be the road map for our time working with legislators in Topeka and Washington D.C.

This is a long and sometimes tedious process, but it does result in policy that is relevant and well thought out. Each and every policy begins with our members across Kansas brining an issue forward and having it supported by their peers. This system powers KFB’s advocacy in Topeka, which has led to many, many beneficial laws like our use-value property tax, protecting property rights and even the creation of KFB Health Plans.

I hope you will find out when your issue surfacing meeting is in your district and take the time to attend. I know everyone is busy, but I promise this will be time well spent.

The school board is responsible for governing the district and ensuring that schools provide the best possible education for students. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — DCCCA and Healthy Blue, in collaboration with Kansas Recovery Network and New Beginnings, announce the installation of a new naloxone vending machine coming to Hutchinson. Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is a medication designed to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose. This innovative approach aims to provide immediate first response to opioid overdoses and save lives within the Reno County community. Residents can access the free naloxone by simply entering their zip code. The vending machine will be located at Crossover Recovery Center – 400 W 2nd&nbsp;Ave. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, February 22 at 11 a.m. to dedicate the official launch.

“Through this partnership, we’re taking a proactive approach to addressing substance use disorders and mental health challengers in our community,” Bryan Baier, President of Healthy Blue. “By combining our resources and expertise, we aim to make a positive impact and provide the necessary tools to those who need them.”

By making it readily available through this vending machine, individuals will have quick access to a life-saving intervention in critical situations.

“DCCCA is an organization dedicated to providing substance abuse treatment and prevention services,” Chrissy Mayer, DCCCA Chief Community Based Services Officer, said. “We recognize the importance of reducing the harm caused by opioid misuse and are proud to partner with this critical endeavor."

DCCCA, Healthy Blue to launch naloxone vending machine in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The new 1861 Club on the Kansas State Fairgrounds will be unlike anything else they have there now.

"The idea was to find a base source of revenue for the Foundation that we could count on year-round," said James Fisher with the Kansas Fairgrounds Foundation. "That would then allow all of our fundraisers and all of the other money that we go after to go 100% towards projects."

The venue will fill a size gap in the Hutchinson community.

"This venue will seat around 350 people at rounds," Fisher said. "The other venues in town, they max out at about 250 to 300. It's the largest venue in town, so if you have a large wedding or a large corporate event, we'll be that fit for you. 1861 Club Manager Tami Rife can't wait to show off the new venue when it opens as part of the 2024 Kansas State Fair in September.

"It's going to be a 'wow' factor," Rife said. "When you walk into the doors, you're instantly going to be wowed. We want you to come in. We want you to relax. Have a beverage, have some food, some entertainment and stay a while. When you leave, I want you to take that 'wow factor' thought with you."

Venue will be 'base source of revenue' for Fairgrounds Foundation

PRETTY PRAIRIE, Kan. — The bond projects in Pretty Prairie USD 311 continue. The roof projects have been inspected and the gym project is ready for the next step, as they now have the plans.

"We saw those at the board meeting," said Superintendent Ashley Anderson. "Landmark Architects came down. She had the plans that we got to approve. Then they'll send those to DCS and get all the subcontractors lined out. Hopefully, April, we'll get to break ground and start on that big project."

Between now and then, once it warms up, they can start looking at windows.

"That's the next project," Anderson said. "That starts in March. You're right, they aren't the most glamorous project, but, my goodness, they are so needed. Especially in our grade school, just driving by there, I am so excited to have new windows. Not only for the efficiency, but just for the aesthetics. I think it's really going to spruce up that building."

Pretty Prairie USD 311 approved the bond issue when it was on the ballot in May of 2023.
