HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Bloodmobile made its home at the Eagle Media Center Tuesday and Wednesday this week. 32 units of blood were collected. Matt Franklin was the $50 gift card winner for the drive.

All who gave at the Eagle drive received a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt.

The next Hutchinson blood drive is Jan. 20, 2023 at the Hutchinson Community College Student Union from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Eagle blood drive Tuesday and Wednesday provides 32 units

Gary Carter Clifton, Sr., 78, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Harmony Assisted Living, McPherson.&nbsp;

Gary was born on August 19, 1944, at Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS, the son of John “Jack” R. Clifton, Jr. and Betty J. (Burian) Clifton.&nbsp; He attended Kensington, KS grade schools and attended the last three years of high school in Newton, KS, graduating in 1962.&nbsp; He played football, holding the running back and kicker positions.&nbsp; He continued playing football at Hutchinson Community College.

Subsequently, Gary took over lead for his Uncle Kenneth’s custom combining operation from North Dakota to Canada.&nbsp; Following in 1965, Gary enlisted into the United States Navy, serving three years in Vietnam with the 551 River Division Delta Devils.&nbsp; He also served two years in reserve.

He met Cherlyn JoAnn Jones in Augusta, KS, and the two were wed on August 30, 1969, in Derby, KS. Gary gained a four year old daughter, Tina.&nbsp; While living in Kensington, Gary, Jr. was born on December 30, 1970, in Smith Center at the same hospital as his father.&nbsp; The family then moved to Newton, KS.

In 1976, Gary relocated his family from Newton, KS to McPherson, KS, to co-own Western Auto with his parents, Jack and Betty Clifton.&nbsp; Once Western Auto was closed,&nbsp; he went to work for Johns Manville until he retired in 2005.&nbsp; Shortly after, he was employed by Stanion Wholesale Electric Co., Inc. He retired from there and started driving for The Cedars and then Bluestem PACE, where he was their first driver in the McPherson location.&nbsp; Gary enjoyed working at Bluestem PACE, and he loved all those whom he worked with, and they loved him.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 53 years, Cherlyn of the home; children, Tina (Tim) Harr of Derby, KS and Gary, Jr. (Bobbie) Clifton of Wichita, KS; siblings Jacquie (Fran) Balzer of Wichita, KS, Roxanne (Gary) Riggs of Topeka, KS, Mike (Lucy) Clifton of Augusta, KS, and Brad (Pat) Clifton of McPherson, KS; four grandchildren, Cameron Hines, Emmi Clifton (Sam Kline-Martin), Liam Clifton (Cam Maglaughlin-Frieman), and Timothy Harr; one great-grandchild, Lilly Spunaugle; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Everett and Octavia Jones; uncle and aunt, Kenneth and Margaret Burial; uncle and aunt, David and Rita Clifton; aunt and uncle, Rea Belle and Nolan Spears; and grandson, Joshua Wilkinson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 5, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Cate officiating.&nbsp; The final resting place will be in the Old Mission Mausoleum in Wichita, KS.&nbsp;

Velma M. Wilson, 98, passed away December 24, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born November 5, 1924, in Redrock, OK, to Lloyd Brickley and Jennie (Anderson) Brickley.

Velma was a graduate of Guthrie High School, Guthrie, OK.&nbsp; She also received a two year degree from an Oklahoma business college.&nbsp; Velma was an avid golfer who was a member of the Carey Park Women’s Golf Association and Highland Country Club Women’s Golf Club.&nbsp; She earned her pilot’s license at Tinker Air Force Base, OK, where she participated in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the auxiliary of the United States Air Force.&nbsp; Velma was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.

On November 17, 1947, she married William ‘Sonny’ R. Wilson.&nbsp; They enjoyed over 45 years of marriage, prior to his death on August 20, 1993.

Velma is survived by:&nbsp; her children, Philip (Linda) Wilson of Manhattan, KS, Gary Wilson of Hutchinson, KS, Don Wilson of Wichita, KS, and Sandra Westerhouse of Eudora, KS; grandchildren, Aaron (Tara) Westerhouse and David (Caitlyn) Westerhouse; four great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Barbara Barnes of Olathe, KS.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband; two sisters; and one brother.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Avenue, Hutchinson, KS, with the Reverend Michael Thomson-DeGreef officiating.&nbsp; Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.

Diego Paiva threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns and New Mexico State held off a late rally by Bowling Green to win the Quick Lane Bowl 24 to 19 on Monday in Detroit. The Aggies were up 24 seven late in the third. The Falcons closed the gap in the fourth to make it 24-19 after a field goal as safety off a blocked punt and Camden North's 19 yard touchdown pass to Tyrone Brody with 6:27 left. But New Mexico State kept control the ball for the rest of the game to get the win. 

New Mexico State coach Jerry Kill, who briefly was, of course, at K-State as an assistant to Bill Snyder and played his college ball at Southwestern here in Kansas, won his first ever bowl game on Monday. 

Four bowl games on tap. Today we start out with Buffalo and Georgia, Southern. That from Montgomery, Alabama. Then Memphis and Utah State from Dallas, coastal Carolina and East Carolina in Birmingham, Alabama. And Oklahoma State. And Wisconsin in Phoenix. 

Purdue still number one, the AP top 25 men's basketball poll for a third straight week. North Carolina back in the pool at #25, the Boilermakers earning 40 and 60 of first place votes. UConn is a # 2. Houston, KU and Arizona rounded out the top five. 

Other Big 12 teams in the top 25. Texas is 6th. Baylor is 12th. TCU is 18th. West Virginia is 24th. Iowa State, Texas Tech and K-State all receiving votes. 

And the Wichita State women close out their non-conference schedule tonight at the Roundhouse as they face South Carolina State with a 6 p.m. tip. 

Wichita State suffered its first home loss of the season last Tuesday in a 61-56 setback to Wyoming. Shocker women come into tonight at 9 and 3 on the year. South Carolina state is 1 and 11.&nbsp; 

And the Denver Broncos have fired coach Nathaniel Hackett before their season even ends. Of course, the Broncos play the Chiefs at Arrowhead on New Year's Day.

Rams blowout Denver an embarrassment for the Broncos, one of the worst showings in their recent history, 51 to 14 as the Rams never looked back and a game that went over time last night, Sunday Night Football, Tampa won over Arizona, 19 to 16. 

Monday Night Football tonight, the L.A. Chargers at Indianapolis, that will be at 7:15 pm on ESPN. 

We'll have the Chiefs Kingdome show on BW Radio Sports tonight from 7 to 8. As Kansas City won over Seattle on Saturday by a score of 24 to 10.

The winningest program  in college basketball history, KU celebrating its 125th year of a play during the 2022-2023 season. And they'll host a 125th reunion coming up on Saturday, January 14th, when the Hawks play host to Iowa State at Allen Field House. 

The game will feature on court recognition honoring past Jayhawks in attendance. Additionally, the first 5000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative pennant celebrating 125 years of Kansas basketball. The Iowa State contest on that date will start at 3:00 and be televised on ESPN+, KU off until Saturday when they'll play host to Oklahoma State at 1:00. 

Well, golf has lost one of their legends. We get more from CBS. Kathy Whitworth, "A legendary Hall of Fame pro women's golfer, has died at the age of 83. Over her career, Whitworth scored 88 victories. That's the most by any player, male or female, on a single professional tour." Pretty  incredible stuff.

Dennis Ray Rice, 76, passed away December 21, 2022.&nbsp; He was born April 23, 1946, in Hutchinson, to C. Ray and Frances (Metcalf) Rice.

Dennis graduated from Nickerson High School in 1964.&nbsp; He then attended Hutchinson Community Junior College and Fort Hays State University. &nbsp;Dennis served in the Army Reserves from 1967 to 1973 in the 346th&nbsp;MP unit.&nbsp;

On June 21, 1969, he married Karen K. Hoefer, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Dennis and Karen owned and operated the Li'l Nick Carry Out in Nickerson from 1980 to 1988.&nbsp;

He was a former deacon and longtime member of the Eastwood Church of Christ.&nbsp;

Most of Dennis' career was spent in sales, working several years for Western Auto in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Later, he became a sales representative for various furniture and appliance distributing companies out of Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and Wichita.&nbsp; The past 20 years, Dennis was self-employed, setting up furniture dealer bases for furniture distributing companies out of Tupelo, MS.&nbsp; His dealer territory included all of Kansas, Oklahoma, and part of Missouri. &nbsp;Dennis retired May, 2021.

He is survived by: his wife of over 53 years, Karen of Nickerson; two sons, Britt Rice (Jesica) of Hutchinson and Chad Rice of Valley Center; grandsons, Hunter Rice (Tatum), Wyatt Rice, both of Nickerson, Hank Rice and Cal Rice, both of Valley Center; four step-grandchildren, Walker Schrag (Mackenzie) of Derby, Pearson Schrag (Taylor), Carter Schrag, and Josie Schrag, all of Hutchinson; and two great-grandchildren, Brinnley and Rhet Schrag of Derby.

Dennis was preceded in death by: &nbsp;two infant daughters; his mother and father; and a brother, Steve Rice.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary with minister Wayne DeWindt officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Dennis Ray Rice, 76, passed away December 21, 2022.&nbsp; He was born April 23, 1946, in Hutchinson, to C. Ray and Frances (Metcalf) Rice.Dennis graduated from Nickerson High School in 1964.&nbsp; He then attended Hutchinson Community Junior College and Fort Hays State University. &nbsp;Dennis served in the Army Reserves from 1967 to 1973 in the 346th&nbsp;MP unit.&nbsp;On June 21, 1969, he married Karen K. Hoefer, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Dennis and Karen owned and operated the Li'l Nick Carry Out in Nickerson from 1980 to 1988.&nbsp;He was a former deacon and longtime member of the Eastwood Church of Christ.&nbsp;Most of Dennis' career was spent in sales, working several years for Western Auto in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Later, he became a sales representative for various furniture and appliance distributing companies out of Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and Wichita.&nbsp; The past 20 years, Dennis was self-employed, setting up furniture dealer bases for furniture distributing companies out of Tupelo, MS.&nbsp; His dealer territory included all of Kansas, Oklahoma, and part of Missouri. &nbsp;Dennis retired May, 2021.He is survived by: his wife of over 53 years, Karen of Nickerson; two sons, Britt Rice (Jesica) of Hutchinson and Chad Rice of Valley Center; grandsons, Hunter Rice (Tatum), Wyatt Rice, both of Nickerson, Hank Rice and Cal Rice, both of Valley Center; four step-grandchildren, Walker Schrag (Mackenzie) of Derby, Pearson Schrag (Taylor), Carter Schrag, and Josie Schrag, all of Hutchinson; and two great-grandchildren, Brinnley and Rhet Schrag of Derby.Dennis was preceded in death by: &nbsp;two infant daughters; his mother and father; and a brother, Steve Rice.Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary with minister Wayne DeWindt officiating. Lynnette Kay Arndt, 59, died December 21, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born June 16, 1963, in El Dorado, to Kenneth M. and Reva June (Edwards) Smith.

Lynnette graduated from El Dorado High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern College, Winfield.&nbsp; She worked as a traveling medical technician.&nbsp; Lynnette loved anything outdoors, exploring new places and traveling, especially to the beaches and mountains.

Lynnette is survived by:&nbsp; son, Brett Arndt of Hutchinson; twin daughters, Claire Arndt (Trace Tomme) of Beaufort, SC, and Paige Arndt (fiancé, Gavin Wolfe) of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Devonne Wulle (James) of Flagstaff, AZ; and Brett, Claire and Paige’s father, Wayne Arndt of Colwich.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Denise Smith.

The Salthawk Girl's used full court pressure to force 26 campus turnovers in the first half alone. And they go on to win 59 to 14. In a rout, Lady Salthawks led 40 to 9 at the halfway point.

Grace Posch led the way with 19, including 3, 3 point baskets. Josiah McLean chipped in 14, Libby Jackson had a career high with 11.

In the boy's game, the Salt Hawks jumped out to a 15 to 5 first quarter lead and never looked back as they led 35-16 at halftime. Hutchinson routs Campus 67-34 was the final. Senior Nic Lange led the Hawks with fourteen. Terrell King had ten. Both the Salthawk boy's and girl's go into the Christmas break with 5 and 0 final records. They are playing good basketball,

This is Dallas First AFC National Award and his second National Coaching Award in three seasons as the Blue Dragon head coach. Hutchinson's football team tied an all time record for NJCAA All-Americans with ten as that was released yesterday. Receiver Malik Benson became the first Blue Dragon ever to be a two time first team all-American. He was the only first team selection from this year's Blue Dragons squad. Quarterback Dylan Liabel, who was a 2021 honorable mention all-American, now joins Benson as just the fourth and fifth Blue Dragons to earn all-American honors in consecutive seasons. Running back Dylan Kedzior, offensive lineman J'onre Reed were named on the second team. Offensive lineman Desmond Schuster. Defensive lineman. Jarell Boykins. Junior defensive end Niko Taylor, linebacker Terry Kirksey, defensive back Jamal Morris and kicker Cole Seagraves were all honorable mentions. Speaking of Dylan Kedzior, he announced yesterday on Twitter that he is committed to the University of Buffalo to further his football career. He was the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Year this past season.  

KU's Jalen Daniels, Earl Bostic, Junior and Sam Bert. Named second team academic All-Americans. The three Jayhawks on the academic all-American team marks the first time in program history Kansas has had three or more individuals on that team. 

Chiefs have designated Wichita's Blake Beltln. He has not played this season. Another weapon for Patrick Mahomes and company. 

Wichita State junior infielder Brock Rodon named a third team preseason all-American by collegiate baseball yesterday. Shockers open the season February 17th at Long Beach State Basketball.

The Hutchinson Community College football team tied an all-time record for NJCAA All-Americans with 10 Blue Dragons earning spots on the 2022 NJCAA team, which was released on Tuesday.

Receiver Malik Benson made some history by becoming the first two-time first-team All-American in program history. He was the only first-team selection from the 2022 Blue Dragons who finished as Jayhawk Conference champion and NJCAA national runner-up, closing the season with an 11-1 record, which tied for the most wins in Hutchinson football history.

Benson and quarterback Dylan Laible, who was a 2021 honorable mention NJCAA All-American, are just the fourth and fifth Blue Dragons to earn All-America honors in consecutive seasons. Benson and Laible join Gordon Brown (1992-93), Excel Lucas (1994-95) and Cordarrelle Patterson (2010-11) in that exclusive group. Both Lucas and Patterson were second-team All-Americans as freshmen before earning first-team honors in their sophomore seasons. Brown was honorable mention as a freshman and second team as a sophomore.

Laible, running back Dylan Kedzior and offensive lineman J’onre Reed were all named to the 2022 second team.

Completing the 91st season of football, the Blue Dragons now have 94 all-time NJCAA All-Americans, including 37 first-team selections. Counting other All-America teams, the Blue Dragon football team has produced 143 total All-Americans.

In head coach Drew Dallas’ three seasons, the Blue Dragons have produced 26 NJCAA All-Americans.

Benson, a sophomore from Lansing, completed his two seasons with the Blue Dragons as the program’s career leader in receiving yards with 2,210 yards. His 21 career receiving touchdowns are No. 2 in Blue Dragon history and his 102 career receptions rank third in Blue Dragon history. The Alabama commit authored 10 100-yard receiving games, including 4 of the top 8 receiving games in team history.

Benson caught 59 passes for 977 yards this season, both of those marks rank fifth in single-season Blue Dragon history.

Laible completed his three seasons with the Blue Dragons with career-best marks of 5,947 yards and 65 touchdowns. This season, Laible threw for 2,306 yards and 22 touchdowns, both which rank No. 5 on the Blue Dragon single-season lists.

Kedzior adds a second-team All-America award to his conference Player of the Year award. Kedzior became the 19th Blue Dragon in program history rush for 1,000 yards in a season, finishing with 1,092 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 6.95 yards per carry. Kedzior completed his three-year career with 1,445 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.

Reed and Schuster each started all 12 games in 2022 for the Blue Dragons and blocked for a unit that led the nation in scoring at 37.2 points per game. The Dragons led the KJCCC in rushing at 202.7 yards per game.

Boykins, Taylor, Kirksey and Morris were part of one of the nation’s top defenses that entered the championship game tied for No. 1 in scoring defense.

Kirksey was the Blue Dragons leading tackler with 82 tackles. Taylor finished among the nation’s leaders with both tackles for loss and quarterback sacks and had 44 total tackles this season. Boykins had 20 total tackles from his defensive tackle spot and Morris led the Blue Dragons with five interceptions, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns.

Segraves had an exceptional freshman season for the Blue Dragons. He tied a single-season record with 14 field goals in 21 attempts with a long of 46 yards. He made 53 of 54 extra points to finish with a team-high 95 points. He became the first Blue Dragon kicker to boot at least four field goals in a game since 2004 and he kicked an overtime 39-yard game winner to defeat No. 7 Iowa Central on Sept. 10 at Gowans Stadium.

🏈 10 Dragons earn NJCAA All-America honors

After one of the most successful seasons in program history, Hutchinson Community College football head coach Drew Dallas was named the 2022 American Community College Football Coaches Association 2022 Coach of the Year on Tuesday.

Last week, Dallas and the Blue Dragons played for the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Little Rock, Arkansas to complete an 11-1 season that included a Jayhawk Conference championship and a six-week run at No. 1 in the NJCAA National Rankings.

This is Dallas’ first AFCA national award and his second national coaching award in three seasons as the Blue Dragons’ head coach. After the 2020-21 season, when the Blue Dragons captured the program’s first national championship, Dallas was named the NJCAA National Coach of the Year. Dallas has also been named the Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year twice in three seasons.

Over his three seasons on the Blue Dragon sideline, Dallas is 28-3 as a head coach with two league titles a KJCCC playoff championship, a national semifinal victory, two appearances in the national championship game and one national championship (2020-21).

The Blue Dragons led the nation in scoring offense this season at 44 points per game. By winning their first 11 games of the season against one of the toughest schedules in the country, the Blue Dragons amassed a 17-game winning streak, which was the second longest in a program history that dates back to 1928.

Hutchinson’s 11 wins this season tied for the most wins in program history, matching the 2014 team’s 11-win season.

This season, the Blue Dragons produced 30 all-KJCCC performers, including 14 first-team selections and KJCCC Offensive Player of the Year Dylan Kedzior.

Dallas completes his fourth season altogether with the Blue Dragon Football program.

He joined the Hutchinson staff in 2019 as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and tight ends coach. The Blue Dragons finished 10-2 that year with a win in the Salt City Bowl. Under Dallas, the offense ranked No. 3 in the nation in scoring, No. 4 in rushing offense and No. 10 in total offense.

In 2002, the American Community College Football Coaches Association selected its first national coach of the year, Michael White of Reedley College. The first will be at the Hutchinson Art Center where the Hutchinson Brass Quintet, an ensemble of the Hutchinson Municipal Band, will present a brief concert at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2022. Then, the Hutchinson Municipal Band will perform a full Christmas Concert on December 21, 2022, at 7:30 pm at Hutchinson’s Historic Fox Theatre.

At the Hutchinson Brass Quintet’s Sunday concert on December 18, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hutchinson Art Center at 5th and Washington, the Quintet will perform holiday favorites including arrangements of many favorite Christmas hymns such as Angels We Have Heard On High, Silent Night, popular holiday classics such as The Christmas Song, It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas and jazz arrangements of such favorites as Let It Snow and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. This concert is free and open to the public. The Hutchinson Brass Quintet is under the leadership of Mr. Daryl Koestel, Hutchinson High School Director of Bands.

Then, on Wednesday, December 21 at 7:30 p.m., Hutchinson’s Historic Fox Theatre at 18 E 1st Avenue in downtown Hutchinson will welcome the full Hutchinson Municipal Band in a special Christmas Concert that is free and open the public. The Hutchinson Municipal Band is solely funded by the Cultural Activities Fund through Reno County and the City of Hutchinson. Support for the concerts come from the Hutchinson Art Center, Eagle Communications (KWBW, MY93.1, Country 102.9 and HutchPost.com), and the Arts Partner program of the Fox Theatre.

One of the oldest three bands in the state, the Hutchinson Municipal Band has consistently provided free music to the city of Hutchinson and Reno County since 1875. The ensemble consists of musicians from Hutchinson, Reno County, plus surrounding communities and counties. 

While some ensemble members are professional educators and/or musicians, the band is primarily composed of community members including business professionals, educators, marketers, administrative assistants, nurses, doctors, lawyers and middle school, high school, and college students.

The Full Concert Band performs each Tuesday through the beginning of the summer, in addition to the 4th of July parade. The Hutchinson Municipal Band organization includes a Concert Band, Parade Band, Salt City Jazz Band, Big Band Explosion, Dixieland Combo, Jazz Combo, Brass Quintet, and Woodwind Combo. These groups are available to play at events around Hutchinson for no-charge. Funding for all Hutchinson Municipal Band activities are provided through funding by the Cultural Activities Fund, a joint fund established by the Reno County and City of Hutchinson governments.

In 1915, the Band became an official entity of the City of Hutchinson through a mill levy established by public vote to support the maintenance of a military-style concert band. As has been the tradition since its founding, all the musicians are local. Most are non-professional musicians with varying backgrounds that represent a cross-section of the Hutchinson community. Since its inception, the Band has provided summer concerts every year, presenting a combination of concert and jazz band performances.

The Concert Band presents band classics, marches, show tunes, movie soundtracks, and patriotic music, while the Salt City Jazz Band presents Big Band and jazz music. In addition, the Hutchinson Municipal Band also offers its service throughout the year with the Hutchinson Brass Quintet. Charlotte Banks Summers, 79, died peacefully with her husband and daughters by her side, September 19, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born July 27, 1943, in Great Bend, to Walter Edward and Sylvia Ellen (Witte) Banks.&nbsp;

Charlotte graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961. She attended Oklahoma College for Women before transferring to KU where she studied at both the Lawrence and Medical Center campuses, graduating in 1967 with a degree in biological science and research. &nbsp;Charlotte began her career as a research biologist in the food laboratory at Far-Mar-Co. While her most treasured job was raising her two daughters, Elizabeth and Cady, she also enjoyed keeping active with several part-time positions including Puzzling Maps by Peirce Puzzle Company, the Cosmosphere, and Cranford College. Later, she became District Manager for Manpower Personnel Service, retiring after 20 years in 2015.

Even while working full-time, Charlotte always made time to serve her community. The women’s philanthropic educational organization, P.E.O., was near and dear to her heart. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter BL and served as called upon in many roles.&nbsp; She also served on the Kansas State Chapter Board for six years, including State President from 2000-2001. In 2002, Charlotte was selected for Leadership Hutchinson, an experience she enjoyed very much, that helped her continue to serve Hutchinson and Reno County. During retirement, Charlotte served on several boards, including the Hutchinson Town Club and as President of the Hutchinson Art Center during its remodel.&nbsp; After the Lair White House was opened in 2014, Charlotte managed the Kansas State Fair Museum. The theme for the exhibits was changed each year, requiring countless hours to research, locate artifacts, and assemble the displays. Charlotte was a faithful member of Grace Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild.

Even with all these activities, Charlotte still made time for friendships, hobbies, and being a loving wife and Nana.&nbsp; She was a dedicated friend and loved writing witty poems to celebrate her friends and family.&nbsp; Charlotte enjoyed traveling and keeping her mind active with bridge and book clubs. When she was younger, she enjoyed sailing and snow skiing with her husband.

On December 28, 1967, Charlotte married Robert Charles “Bob” Summers, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared nearly 55 years of marriage.

Charlotte is survived by: her husband, Bob of Hutchinson; daughters, Elizabeth Summers Hunt (Paul) of Waterford, MI, Cady Summers Panetta (Michael) of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren, Sydney and Evan Hunt, Sylvia and Nicholas Panetta; sister, Mary Banks Hitchcock (Charles) of Mission Viejo, CA; brother, Thurston Banks (Linda) of Cookeville, TN; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. J. Charlotte Banks Summers, 79, died peacefully with her husband and daughters by her side, September 19, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born July 27, 1943, in Great Bend, to Walter Edward and Sylvia Ellen (Witte) Banks.&nbsp;Charlotte graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961. She attended Oklahoma College for Women before transferring to KU where she studied at both the Lawrence and Medical Center campuses, graduating in 1967 with a degree in biological science and research. &nbsp;Charlotte began her career as a research biologist in the food laboratory at Far-Mar-Co. Betty Louise (Fox) Fesler 81, passed peacefully in her home in Hutchinson, Kansas on December 5, 2022. She was born on December 3, 1941, in Erie, Kansas to Francis Matthew Fox and Ruth Louise (Carson) Fox.

She graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community Junior College.

She worked at Hutchinson National Bank for many years and later at Horizons Mental Health Center.

Betty married Jim Fesler of Plevna, Kansas on September 30, 1961, and they were married for 22 years. She is survived by her brother Charles Fox and his wife Suzie. Her son Ron Fesler and his wife Christina, her daughter Deborah, and her husband Thad Kosse. Betty is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth and John.

Betty’s preference was to not have a funeral, but instead a memorial Mass. Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Street, Hutchinson, Kansas.

Betty was a devoted Catholic and mother. She loved spending time with her rescue pups Puck and Skeeter. Betty was an avid gardener and was known for her green thumb. If there was a crime show to be seen, Betty was watching it. She loved her kids and the travels she was able to experience with them…Hawaii being her favorite. News was also a popular pastime. She would let Ron and Deb know about something happening in their area many times before they even knew.

The simple things made Betty happy, a good steak, her pups, onion rings from the Airport restaurant, her friends and family, but most importantly her kids.

Larry Ray Drummond, age 71, passed away to his heavenly home on December 8, 2022, after a long illness.&nbsp; He passed at Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was born March 30, 1951 in Pratt, KS to parents Roy R. and Rosella M. (Thompson) Drummond.

Larry attended grade schools at Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Pratt, KS.&nbsp; Larry graduated from Pratt Senior High School in 1969.&nbsp; He graduated from Pratt Community Junior College in 1971 with an Associate Degree in Science. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1973, majoring in Building Design and Construction.

Upon graduation from college, Larry’s experience included titles of Junior Plant Facilities Engineer, Mine Surveyor, Senior Designer, Structural Draftsman, Project Coordinator and Slip-form Inspector. Companies he worked for include American Salt Co.; Borton, Inc., Black and Veatch, Van Sickle Allen and Assoc., Ebmeier Engineering, and Southwest and Assoc. He was especially proud of rough-necking in the oilfields for his father during the summer months while attending high school and college.

Larry was a walking encyclopedia of trivia knowledge. He loved collecting all types of movies, as well as Country and Rock &amp; Roll music. He also loved to fish, attend dirt track auto races, and was a Military and Old West history buff. He also enjoyed reading, Muscle Cars from the 50's, 60's and 70's, and he was a longtime fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Larry met the love of his life, Katrina K. Drummond (Harbacek), at Walmart on Good Friday in 2003, and they were married later that year in Hutchinson. They were blessed with 19 years of marriage, and she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: step-daughters, Julie Zolman, Jennifer Zolman (Andrew Blea), Joni Heiderscheit (Jerry Jr.), all of Hutchinson, KS. Sister, Connie M. (Drummond) Vonachen, of Wisconsin, and Brother-in-Law Eric Harbacek of Hutchinson. Nephews: Mark Vonachen (Charlene Mosier) of Hutchinson, Keith Vonachen (Melanie), of Wisconsin. Grandchildren: Anthony &amp; Brandyn Breland, Prudence Long &amp; Sienna Blea, and Grace &amp; Mia Heiderscheit. Nieces: Mira and Solenne Vonachen. Other survivors include daughters Erica and Jessica.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his ‘Fishing Buddy’ Brother-in-law L. Wayne Vonachen, and fur babies: Skipper, Mickey, Smoky Jo, Casper, Max Man &amp; Emma Dog.

The public invited to get together for a sendoff Monday morning.

The team will depart from the Mull Family Football Complex and Stringer Fine Arts Center parking lot at 9 a.m. on Monday. The caravan will move east past the Sports Arena on 11th Avenue.

Hutchinson plays Iowa Western in the NJCAA National Championship game at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

🏈 Blue Dragon Football sendoff is Monday morning

<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2022-23/bios/kedzior_dylan_601l">Dylan Kedzior</a>&nbsp;did not see much of the field during his freshman year two seasons ago.

The third-year sophomore, who was a freshman in Drew Dallas' first season as the head coach of the Hutchinson Community College football team in 2020, was a special teams player who made the most of the his time when he jogged with the unit onto the field. He did rotate through on offense - the Claremore, Oklahoma native rushed for 221 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns.

Had the country only knew what was coming ...

Hutchinson went on to win the NJCAA Division I national championship, 29-27 over Snow Colllege, and soon backed that up with a 49-19 Jayhawk Conference playoff title win over Garden City and finally a 66-34 Salt City Bowl win over Hinds the next season – both in 2021 with the national championship in the spring and the bowl game in the fall.

With the Blue Dragons losing top running backs to NCAA programs – the national championship MVP Tye Edwards transferring to UT-San Antonio and Anwar Lewis transferring to Jacksonville State – the Blue Dragons had to find a new tailback to rely on.

With 5:47 remaining in the fourth quarter of the fourth game of the regular season on the road at Coffeyville on September 24, Kedzior was inserted at running back and led the charge down the field, scoring the go-ahead and game-winning two-yard touchdown with 1:17 remaining in the game. The touchdown, looking back at it, seemed to be a season-defining moment for him and the Blue Dragons.

"It's been awesome getting to play this season," Kedzior said. "I'm so blessed to see the success that I've seen so far. It's been great."

And now Kedzior, who was a part of the national title-winning team in 2021, will return to Little Rock, Arkansas for the 8 p.m. kickoff Wednesday, Dec. 14 at War Memorial Stadium when top-seeded Hutchinson takes on the third seed Iowa Western, which the Blue Dragons snuck by against on November 12 in Council Bluffs in the final game of the regular season, 29-28.

He totaled 212 total yards in the game.Kedzior was honored as the Jayhawk Conference Offensive Player of the Week after the win over Coffeyville.
