Velma M. Wilson |1924-2022|

Velma M. Wilson, 98, passed away December 24, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.  She was born November 5, 1924, in Redrock, OK, to Lloyd Brickley and Jennie (Anderson) Brickley.

Velma was a graduate of Guthrie High School, Guthrie, OK.  She also received a two year degree from an Oklahoma business college.  Velma was an avid golfer who was a member of the Carey Park Women’s Golf Association and Highland Country Club Women’s Golf Club.  She earned her pilot’s license at Tinker Air Force Base, OK, where she participated in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the auxiliary of the United States Air Force.  Velma was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.

On November 17, 1947, she married William ‘Sonny’ R. Wilson.  They enjoyed over 45 years of marriage, prior to his death on August 20, 1993.

Velma is survived by:  her children, Philip (Linda) Wilson of Manhattan, KS, Gary Wilson of Hutchinson, KS, Don Wilson of Wichita, KS, and Sandra Westerhouse of Eudora, KS; grandchildren, Aaron (Tara) Westerhouse and David (Caitlyn) Westerhouse; four great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Barbara Barnes of Olathe, KS.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; husband; two sisters; and one brother.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Avenue, Hutchinson, KS, with the Reverend Michael Thomson-DeGreef officiating.  Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
