Hutchinson Community College volleyball sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/ravenhani_giovanna_k9db">Giovanna Ravanhani</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/dean_anna_0g77">Anna Dean</a>&nbsp;announced their decisions of four-year schools at a signing ceremony on Monday at the Sports Arena.

Ravanhani signed to play at Division II Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina. Dean will play next season at Pittsburg State University.

Both Ravanhani and Dean were mainstays for the Blue Dragons this season as Hutchinson went 24-15 and finished in a second-place tie in the Jayhawk Conference.

This season, the 6-foot setter from Sao Paulo, Brazil averaged 8.72 assists per set. She had a team-high 58 service aces. Ravanhani hit .230 with 102 kills. She also averaged 1.90 digs per set.

Her 1,265 assists this season were fifth most in Blue Dragon single-season history. Her 8.72 assists per set are ninth most in single-season history. She had six double doubles.

Ravanhani had 1,664 career assists, which is seventh most in Blue Dragon career history.

Ravanhani was a second-team all-Jayhawk Conference performer this season.

Ravanhani is the first Blue Dragon volleyball player to sign with Newberry College.

Dean is a 6-1 middle blocker from Oswego, Kansas, who was a first-team all-KJCCC selection this season.

Dean was second in the NJCAA in total blocks with 162 and she averaged 1.18 blocks per set, which ranked 11th in Blue Dragon single-season history. Dean had 17 matches with five ore more blocks. She tied her career single-game high of eight blocks four times this season.

Offensively, Dean hit .336, which ranked No. 12 in the nation. With 329 total kills, Dean averaged 2.40 kills per set. She also had 45 aces this season.

Dean's 162 total blocks ranked 12th on the Hutchinson single-season. Her 273 career blocks rank seventh on the career blocks list.

Dean is the first Blue Dragon to sign with Pittsburg State since Jordan Rehm in 2011. Molly Bergkamp signed with the Gorillas in 2008.

 🏐 Two Blue Dragon Volleyball players announce four-year plans

HUTCHINSON, Kan.-#1 seed Florida SouthWestern State (FL) defeated #3 seed Miami Dade (FL) for the 2023 NJCAA D1 Women's Championship 3 games to 1 on Saturday night at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson.

With Sunflower State ties,&nbsp;FSW Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen is the former head coach of Seward County in Liberal. Allen also coached high School volleyball at Liberal High School.

In a rematch of the 2022 championship title game, the No. 1 Buccaneers defeated third-seeded Miami Dade (FL) 3-1 to win the match.  This marks the second consecutive national title for Florida SouthWestern in the program’s fifth season of existence.  The Bucs become just the fifth team in NJCAA Division I Volleyball history to win back-to-back national titles. 

Florida SouthWestern concluded the season with a 31-1 record and an 8-game win streak. The Buccaneers’ only loss of the season was to Miami Dade in a five-set contest on October 21.

Miami Dade won the first set 25-19 to kick off the 2023 NJCAA DI Volleyball Championship title game.

Florida SouthWestern stormed back to take the next three sets 25-16, 25-19, and 25-18.

In the championship, the Sharks compiled 51 kills, 48 assists, and 69 digs. The Buccaneers had 57 kills, 52 assists, and 53 digs.  

The 2024 NJCAA D1 Women's Volleyball Championship will take place in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Cedar Falls was the site of this years DII and DIII event.

🏐 WVB: NJCAA D1 Volleyball Championship Saturday results

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Thursday night, the NAACP Hutchinson and SW Bricktown Neighborhood hosted a police forum with Police Chief Brice Burlie of the Hutchinson Police Department and other department personnel. Members of the public came to listen and talk with a panel of four officers in administrative positions.&nbsp;

Topics discussed included community interaction goals for the department, the importance of being a good crime witness, prevention of local drug crimes, mental health safety and handling of the department budget.&nbsp;

Chief Burlie, who was promoted to the permanent position in early August, said he enjoys public forums with the community. Throughout the evening, common themes of doing the job with integrity were discussed. Burlie told the audience integrity, professionalism and honesty are the Hutchinson Police Department's core values.&nbsp;

&nbsp;"We all know what those things mean but in our field. "We have to live that 24/7 right," Burlie said at the forum. "We can't just come in in uniform, and be professional and be honest and have high levels of integrity. Even when we take the uniform off and we go home, we are out in public or we are with our wives or with our kids, you still have to hold yourself to that high expectation. It goes without saying that the reason for that is because if we want the community to fully entrust in us, how are we ever going to expect the community to trust us if we don't act right when we're outside the job."

&nbsp;Burlie, Operations Officer Dustin Loepp, Professional Standards Captain Dayton Gates and Administrative Captain Michael Collins were all present for the discussion.&nbsp;

🏐 NJCAA D1 results from Friday

HUTCHINSON, Kan.-The 2023 NJCAA D1 Volleyball Championship Saturday has a Florida ring to it as the defending champion Florida SouthWestern State will take on Miami Dade tonight at the Sports Arena for the Championship.

Both the Florida teams earned big wins in the semi-finals on Friday night. Florida SouthWestern State rolled Trinity Valley (TX) in three sets 25-20, 25-17, 25-20. Miami Dade had to work a little harder to get the win over Navarro College (TX) in four sets 21-25, 25-21, 31-29, 25-20.

It wasn't a storybook start for the Bucs in their second straight Final Four appearance as they fell behind early 9-4 against an upstart Trinity Valley group before having to take their first timeout of the night. The stoppage swung the momentum as&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/alarcon_alondra_78aw">Alondra Alarcon</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/zibecchi_victoria_48zv">Victoria Zibecchi</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/collier_izzy_81vv">Izzy Collier</a>&nbsp;combined for four straight kills to draw the Bucs back to within one and after a Cardinal sideout, six more consecutive points for the Purple and Aqua gave FSW their first lead of the game at 14-10. The Bucs came at the Cardinals from all angles as a backrow kill from Zibecchi made it 18-14 before&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/boledovicova_nina_rjxw">Nina Boledovicova</a>hammered one down in the middle moments later to make it 22-17. Trinity Valley made one last push, but it was too little, too late as the Bucs closed the Cards out 25-20 on a kill from Alarcon to take the set 25-20 and go ahead 1-0 in the match. The Bucs finished with 18 kills in the set with Alarcon and Zibecchi notching 5 each and Collier adding 4 in the middle.&nbsp;

It was a better start for the Bucs in the second as they opened up an early 8-5 lead on a pair of kills from Boledovicova and an ace from Zibecchi at the service line. Two more kills from Zibecchi and a shot off the block from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/gasparini_sara_3tap">Sara Gasparini</a>&nbsp;upped the lead to five at 15-10 and they held that advantage 10 points later at 20-15. Alarcon's seventh kill of the night gave the Bucs set point and&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/purashaj_roberta_ci3l">Roberta Purashaj</a>found Collier in the middle for the exclamation point as FSW took the second 25-17 to go ahead 2-0 in the match. Zibecchi was on fire in the second, finishing with 8 kills in the period while Boledovicova had 4 on 6 swings.&nbsp;

With their backs to the wall, Trinity Valley came out swinging in the third, jumping out to a quick 6-2 lead before FSW made a run of their own with&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/bonifacio_giulia_fm9w">Giulia Bonifacio</a>&nbsp;combining with Collier for a big block to level the score at 7 a piece.&nbsp; The Bucs pushed ahead by a pair on back to back kills from Alarcon and Zibecchi and stretched their lead to three later on when&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/brandalise_camila_fx2i">Camila Brandalise</a>&nbsp;found Bonifacio on the right side to make it 18-15. A big dig from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/marzella_anna_nd4b">Anna Marzella</a>led to FSW winning a point on a kill from Alarcon to push the Bucs lead to four and a block from Gasparini and Boledovicova sealed it as the Bucs took the third 25-20 to sweep the match 3-0.&nbsp;

The Bucs offensive attack finished with a program three set record 54 kills while hitting .377 in the win. Zibecchi led the way with a career high 18 kills without making a single error and hitting .562 while Alarcon had her seventh straight double digit kill effort at the NJCAA National Tournament with 11. The Bucs were once again efficient in the middle as Boledovicova and Collier had 8 kills each and combined for a .406 hitting percentage. Quarterbacking it all was&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/purashaj_roberta_ci3l">Roberta Purashaj</a>who dished out 40 assists for the sixth time this season. Marzella was all over the place on the back line, pulling up a program three set record 23 digs while Collier led the way at the net with 4 blocks, making her one of just two players in FSW program history to record 200 career stuffs.&nbsp;

FSW hits the 30 win mark for the first time in program history as they improve to 30-1 on the year while Trinity Valley sees a 14 game win streak come to a screeching halt as they drop to 32-6.&nbsp;

The Bucs advance to play in the NJCAA National Championship Game for the second straight season where they will look to repeat as Champs in a rematch of the 2022 title game against #3 Miami Dade. 

The Bucs and Sharks will get underway at 7 PM (CT).&nbsp;&nbsp;

In the other semi-final game, the Miami Dade College Lady Sharks showcased their exceptional skills and unwavering determination as they emerged victorious from the semifinal round of the NJCAA National Tournament, earning themselves a well-deserved spot in the Championship game.

In a thrilling four-set battle against the Navarro College Bulldogs, the Lady Sharks demonstrated their prowess on the court, displaying remarkable teamwork and strategic play. The final score, 21-25, 25-21, 31-29, 25-20, stands as a testament to the intensity and competitiveness of the match.

Throughout the game, the Lady Sharks left no doubt as they showcased their dominance in multiple statistical categories. The team proved their versatility and excellence with 59 kills, 63 digs, eight serving aces, and 13 blocks.

Leading the charge was Katielle Alonzo, who recorded a phenomenal performance with 17 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .289. Alonzo also contributed three blocks and one serving ace, establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with.

<a href="https://mdc.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/rabit_esthefany_9p4b">Esthefany Rabit</a>&nbsp;significantly contributed to the Lady Sharks' success with 13 kills and an outstanding hitting percentage of .455. Rabit showcased her defensive skills with 3.5 blocks, six digs, and one serving ace.

Da Cruz rounded off her exceptional performance with three serving aces.

The MDC Lady Sharks now set their sights on the Championship game scheduled for tomorrow. With their unwavering determination, exceptional teamwork, and outstanding individual performances, they are poised to leave a lasting impression on the NJCAA National Tournament.

The Bucs came at the Cardinals from all angles as a backrow kill from Zibecchi made it 18-14 before&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/boledovicova_nina_rjxw">Nina Boledovicova</a>hammered one down in the middle moments later to make it 22-17. Trinity Valley made one last push, but it was too little, too late as the Bucs closed the Cards out 25-20 on a kill from Alarcon to take the set 25-20 and go ahead 1-0 in the match. The Bucs finished with 18 kills in the set with Alarcon and Zibecchi notching 5 each and Collier adding 4 in the middle.&nbsp;It was a better start for the Bucs in the second as they opened up an early 8-5 lead on a pair of kills from Boledovicova and an ace from Zibecchi at the service line. Two more kills from Zibecchi and a shot off the block from&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/gasparini_sara_3tap">Sara Gasparini</a>&nbsp;upped the lead to five at 15-10 and they held that advantage 10 points later at 20-15. Alarcon's seventh kill of the night gave the Bucs set point and&nbsp;<a href="https://fsw.prestosports.com/sports/wvball/2023-24/bios/purashaj_roberta_ci3l">Roberta Purashaj</a>found Collier in the middle for the exclamation point as FSW took the second 25-17 to go ahead 2-0 in the match. The Blue Dragons (4-1) travel to play the Dodge City Conquistadors (2-4) at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the DC3 Student Events Center in Dodge City.

The game will be broadcast on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 2:45 p.m. Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) will broadcast the game with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action at 2:45 p.m.

The Blue Dragons enter play coming off their first loss of the season last Saturday to now-No. 19 Northern-Oklahoma Tonkawa. TAYSHA RIDEAUX: Taysha is a junior at Hutchinson High School and has been a Club member for 10 years. Taysha is active in Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and athletic training at school. Taysha says she wants to impact youth by “showing them that no matter what life has brought to you, that you can still be yourself and that you will be more than what others think of you.”

CAMRYNN HARRIS: Camrynn is a sophomore at Hutchinson High School and has been a Club member for 11 years. Camrynn is active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, football, basketball, and track at school. The impact Camrynn wants to make is by setting an example “that you can reach high potential and complete high goals no matter what you are going through.”

Rotary to host Youth of the Year candidates

HUTCHINSON, Kan.-Day two is in the books for the 2023 edition of the NJCAA D1 Women's volleyball tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, but unlike day 1, this day had five lower seeds pulling upsets over the higher seeds including the Kansas entry, the #16 seed Colby Trojans advancing in the consolation round with a 3 games to 2 win over #8 seed Odessa in the late afternoon contest.

Odessa took the first two sets of the match 25-17, 26-24 but the Trojans roared back with a 25-23 third set to stay alive and avoid being eliminated by Odessa.&nbsp;

Colby (22-10) then evened the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set before sending the Wranglers packing with a 15-9 win in the fifth and final set.

Colby will now advance in the consolation bracket and play #13 seed Indian Hills (28-11) at 1pm today.

It is going to be a Florida vs Texas flavor in the Friday semi-final's with #1 seed Florida SouthWestern State and #3 seed Miami Dade advancing as well as #7 seed Navarro and #5 seed Trinity Valley earning victories.

The consolation bracket continues today with the matches beginning at 1pm and 4pm.&nbsp; Both semi-final matches will get under way at 7pm at the Sports Arena.

🏐 WVB: NJCAA D1 second day results included some upsets

The 2023 Jayhawk Conference football champion Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons had a total of 26 players who earned recognition on the All-KJCCC Football teams, which were released on Thursday.

The Blue Dragons had a near complete sweep of the three major awards.

Head coach Drew Dallas was named the conference Coach of the Year. Sophomore defensive end&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/brown_daniel_a1x7">Daniel Brown</a>&nbsp;was named the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year. Quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/collier_samari_cpv0">Samari Collier</a>&nbsp;was named co-Offensive Player of the Year with Highland receiver Benson Prosper.

The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons (10-0) played 14 players on the all-KJCCC first team, four players on the second team and eight players on the honorable mention list.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - DANIEL BROWN, Hutchinson A 6-2, 240-pound defensive end from Kansas City, Kansas, Brown has had one of the most dominant seasons in Blue Dragon and KJCCC history.

For the season, Brown accounted for 49 total tackles, 22.5 tackles going for loss.

His 17.5 quarterback sacks, accounting for 136 yards in losses, leads the nation and is second most in Blue Dragon single-season history. He has had at least one quarterback sack in nine consecutive games.

Brown had back-to-back season-high three sacks against both Dodge City and Garden City. Brown also has 11 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and fumble recovery.

Against No. 2 Iowa Wester, Brown had six tackles and two sacks, which included a sack-fumble that was the turnaround play of the game with the Dragons at that point trailing the Reivers 21-7.

Brown is the first Blue Dragon to win league Defensive Player of the Year honors since Roterius Torrence in 2020/21. He is the four Blue Dragon to win the award since 2018, joining Torrence, Latrell Bankston (2019) and Monty Montgomery (2018).

COACH OF THE YEAR - DREW DALLAS, Hutchinson The fourth-year Blue Dragon head coach won the Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year award for the third time.

Dallas and the Blue Dragons ran the table in the KJCCC for the second-straight season and have won 14-striaght league-designated games and 18 games in a row against league foes including postseason matchups.

Hutchinson took over the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA Rankings after Week 1 and have reeled off 10-straight victories, including wins over five nationally ranked opponents.

The Blue Dragons led the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 10.2 points per game and was No. 2 in the NJCAA in scoring offense at 40.4 points per contest. The Dragons were also No. 1 in rushing defense at 54.9 yards per game.

The 2023 Blue Dragons had 27 all-conference performers this season, including 14 first-team selections.

Dallas is 38-3 with the Blue Dragons, a stretch that includes a national championship, national runner-up and four consecutive league titles (three regular season and one playoff).

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE YEAR - SAMARI COLLIER, Hutchinson A 6-foot-3, 220-point sophomore from DeSoto, Texas, Collier was a true two-way threat at quarterback for the Blue Dragons this season.

Collier combined for 1,727 total yards and accounted for 19 touchdowns for the Blue Dragons this season. Collier completed 77 of 135 passes (57.0 percent) for 1,253 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. Collier averaged 5.3 yards per rush, going for 474 yards on 90 carries with six touchdowns.

Collier had two games with 100-plus yards both rushing and passing. He had 176 passing yards and 107 rushing yards against No. 5 Iowa Central and 136 passing yards and 103 rushing yards against No. 9 Butler.

Collier threw for a season-highs of 236 yards and four touchdowns in a league championship-clinching victory at Independence.

FIRST TEAM OFFENSE A total of six Blue Dragons were on the first-team offense.

Running back&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/reed_jr._tyrell_3b4y">Tyrell Reed Jr.</a>&nbsp;earned first-team honors. His 12 rushing touchdowns are second in the NJCAA. Reed has a team-high 692 rushing yards on 111 carries. He averages 6.2 yards per carry.

Receiver&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/beason_zerah_m1gv">Zeriah Beason</a>&nbsp;had 27 receptions for 475 yards and five touchdowns.

The Blue Dragons had three offensive linemen earn first-team honors.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/richardson_jayven_gmy8">Jayven Richardson</a>, Mat Glen and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/marcotte_maddox_h8uz">Maddox Marcotte</a>&nbsp;helped the Blue Dragons produce the second-best scoring offense in the nation at 39.1 points per game. The Dragons are among the top rushing teams in the KJCCC at 229.2 yards per game.

FIRST TEAM DEFENSE Linebacker&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/sherman_k-von_986x">K'Von Sherman</a>&nbsp;was Hutchinson's leading tackler this season. He closed out the regular season with back-to-back KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week awards. Sherman had 64 total tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 quarterback sacks.

Freshman safety&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/nolan_ryan_iyfa">Ryan Nolan</a>&nbsp;leads the NJCAA with seven interceptions. Nolan had a three interception game against No. 5 Iowa Central and a two-interception game against Highland. Nolan had five passes defensed and was in on 21 total tackles.

Defensive tackle&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/saili_danny_rmkt">Danny Saili</a>&nbsp;had 18 total tackles, but was disruptive all season long in the trenches with 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 quarterback sacks. He also has a blocked field goal to his credit.

Cornerback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/scruggs_jordan_m11u">Jordan Scruggs</a>&nbsp;had 34 total tackles with an interception, fumble recovery and five passes broken up. Safety&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/mcconico_malik_amvf">Malik McConico</a>&nbsp;had four interceptions and 32 tackles this season.

FIRST TEAM SPECIAL TEAMS Freshman return specialist&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/richardson_tre_3jar">Tre Richardson</a>&nbsp;had a huge season, finishing second in the NJCAA in kickoff return average (28.4 yards per return), second in punt return average (17.3 yards per return) and third in the nation in all-purpose yards (141.0 yards per game). Richardson had two punts and a kickoff returned for a touchdown.

Sophomore punter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/forbes_stefaan_v56y">Stefaan Forbes</a>&nbsp;was third in the NJCAA in punting this season at 41.0 yards per punt. He placed 16 inside the 20-yard line and had seven punts of 50 or more yards with a long of 66 yards.

SECOND TEAM AND HONORABLE MENTION SELECTIONS Blocking tight end Jered Napoli and offensive linemen&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/honorable_brandon_kvix">Brandon Honorable</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2023-24/bios/cain_chris_1xes">Chris Cain</a>&nbsp;were second-team all-league selections.

🏈 HutchCC's Dallas, Collier, Brown earn major all-KJCCC honors

Lucretia Helene Nichols, 93 died November 14, 2023 at her home in Hutchinson, KS, surrounded by family and friends. She was born March 14, 1930 in Pawhuska, OK to Robert and Annie Alexander Boylan.

Lucretia graduated from Bookerteen High School in Pawhuska, OK. She attended Hutchinson Community College. She made Hutchinson, Kansas her home in 1952. She retired from the Law Enforcement Center in Environmental Services Department.

Lucretia was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she held the position of President of the Church Usher Board. She was a Lifetime member of the Hutchinson NAACP.

After retirement Lucretia enjoyed being a Community Historian and Arborist. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, walking, and attending the NJCAA men’s basketball tournament games.

Lucretia married Robert Eugene Nichols on May 17, 1959. Survivors include three sons, Bruce Sherod Nichols and Roger Ray Coffee, both of Hutchinson, KS, and Shawn Ray Coffee (grandson/son), Chicago, IL; brother Wayne Boylan, Los Angeles, CA; nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two great- great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Eugene Nichols in 1965; daughter, Laura Jean Ragsdale; son, Edward “Eddie” Tipton; two brothers, Napoleon Boylan and David Ough and three sisters, Augustus Ellison, Gwendolyn Carter, and Anna DeBaun.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1015 E 7th Ave Hutchinson, KS with the Reverend William J. Green, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Repass will be held at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. Memorials may be donated to the Davita Dialysis Center, Hutchinson, KS in care of the funeral chapel.

The Godmother of 2nd Street will be missed and never be forgotten.

HUTCHINSON, Kan.-The opening round of the 2023 NJCAA D1 Women's Volleyball Championship went about as predicted on Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena with the exception of No. 9 seed College of Southern Idaho edging No. 8 seed Odessa College in 5 sets 3 games to 2.

All the other higher seeds advanced to today's quarterfinals which gets under way at the Sports arena at 10am.

Those teams that lost in the first round will play on in the consolation bracket for 9th place and become a single elimination bracket with four of the sixteen teams in the National field being eliminated today.

🏐 WVB: NJCAA D1 Volleyball moves to day 2 of National Tournament

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — NAACP Hutchinson and SW Bricktown Neighborhood would like to invite the public to an open forum with the new Hutchinson Chief of Police and Officers from HPD.

Chief Brice Burlie will have a chance to introduce himself and take questions from the public for the Hutchinson Police Department.

The forum is Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Shears Technology Center on the campus of Hutchinson Community College.

Reminder: New police chief at public forum

Miriam Grace Bailey, 96, died November 13, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;She was born October 21, 1927, to Theodore Brown and Dolly (Widup) Brown.

Miriam was a graduate of Kingman High School, Kingman, KS, and Salt City Business College, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;She was a bookkeeper at Kingsley-Wagner Motor Supply Company, Hutchinson, KS, retiring with 25 years of service. &nbsp;Miriam was a member of the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, South Hutchinson, KS.

On October 18, 1947, she married Nathan William Bailey in Kingman, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 58 years of marriage, prior to his death on February 3, 2006.

Miriam is survived by: &nbsp;her daughters, Barbara Wroe, Jan Bailey, and Tammy (Randy) Augustine; brother, Duane Brown; grandchildren, Kyle (Emily) Green, Casey Green, Cheryl (Nord) Huseby, Holly Sticka, Brice (Chris) Wroe, Jeremy (Lori) Augustine, and Corey Augustine; and great-grandchildren, Angel (Carlo Earl) Sticka, Paris Sticka, Grace Huseby, Madyson Green, Kellen Green, Makynzie Green, Julia Wroe, Alex Wroe, Brysen Augustine, Camden Augustine, and Landen Augustine.

She was preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; husband; brother, Bob Brown; and sister, Shirley Green.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Elliott Mortuary Chapel. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kingman, KS. &nbsp;Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp;The funeral service can be viewed online beginning at 9:45 a.m. on the day of the service by going to Miriam’s obituary on the Elliott Mortuary website and clicking on the link located at the end of the obituary.
