Cheryl Ann Smith (Dickson), age 78, passed away in her sleep at Leisure Homestead in Stafford, covered with the love of her family on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

 She was born on June 19, 1943, in Stafford, Kansas to Herman and Dora Lee Dickson.  Cheryl attended school in Stafford where she graduated and met the love of her life. Cheryl went on to Hutchinson Community College where she studied business.

On June 7, 1964, she married Jimmy Lee Smith. Together they had three children. Jim and Cheryl enjoyed doing everything together, especially spending time with family and friends.  She ended her career, as an executive secretary at Farmer’s National Bank (Prairie Bank).

Cheryl was an active member at Calvary Baptist Church. She devoted her free time to her children and cherished grandchildren.

Our family has many, many wonderful memories and traditions that we will cherish and ensure live on: red velvet cake for Jesus’ birthday, Christmas stockings, mystery dinners and scavenger hunts for gifts.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cally Ann, her sister Joan Volk and her beloved husband Jim.

She is survived by her; sister Vickie Souders (Larry). Her crazy brother-in-law Dennis (Tish). Her daughter Michelle (Mark) Tucker, and son Cory (Jill); 9 grandchildren: Breanne, Katie (Ben), Emma (Zach), Michael (Rachael), Devin (Stephanie), Casey (Jennifer), Trenton, Greg, and Stephanie (Dailin); 7 great-grandchildren: Paityn, Brooklyn, Thayer, Clayton, Abigail, Rowan, and Josie; her nephews: Kelly, Joe and Levi and niece Denise.

She was a God-loving woman, a good friend to all and a woman who would do just about anything for someone in need. She was a good mother who always took care of her children and did the best she could to teach and guide them, a loving grandmother and great- grandmother.  She never wanted much for herself just to ensure that her family was taken care of.  She is loved and will be missed by many!

 Cheryl willed her body to science in hopes of improving the lives of others who suffer from the debilitating disease of MS.  A service will be held at a later time when we can bury both her and Jim’s ashes side-by-side in death as they lived in life.

Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer freshman goalkeeper Olivia Felix-Cardona had a memorable Blue Dragon debut last week.

Felix-Cardona played a huge role in helping the Blue Dragons to a season-opening 1-0 victory over Western Wyoming last Friday in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

The Blue Dragon freshman was honored on Wednesday by being named the Jayhawk Conference Division I Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week.

Felix-Cardona posted six saves in her first collegiate game. Those six saves tied for the second most in a Blue Dragon goalkeeper’s debut in program history.

Felix-Cardona made three huge 1-on-1 saves against the Mustangs in the second half to either keep the game tied or maintain the Dragons’ one-goal lead in the second half. Her final save came with 12:25 left when she sprawled out to make a diving save on a shot ticketed for the lower left corner, deflecting it just wide to preserve the one-goal lead.

Felix-Cardona is the first Blue Dragon goalkeeper to earn the KJCCC’s weekly honor since Kambrian Colborn in Week 5 last season.

The Blue Dragons’ next match will be on September 1 in the Jayhawk Conference opener at Barton.

HutchCC keeper wins weekly award

Freshman Blondie Penaflor led three Blue Dragons in double-figure kills and hit better than .400 in her collegiate debut to lead the Hutchinson Community College women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 season-opening victory over the Ottawa University Junior Varsity on Monday night at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson won its first since opener since 2018. The Blue Dragons now have nine days off before opening Jayhawk West play against Cloud County on Wednesday, September 1 at the Sports Arena.

Penaflor finished with 14 kills on 23 swings and hit a match-high .435 to lead the Blue Dragons. Penaflor had only two kills in the opening set, but sparked the Blue Dragons with five kills on eight attacks in the second set. After getting only three swings in the third set, Peneflor terminated five kills on six attacks in a dominant Hutchinson fourth set.

The Blue Dragons out-hit the Braves .206-.080. Hutchinson held Ottawa to .002 hitting in sets 1, 2 and 4. Ottawa hit .229 in and held the Dragons to .049 hitting in the third set, the only set the Blue Dragons lost.

Sophomores Tauja Durham and Kristina Head had 10 kills each for the Blue Dragons. Head hit .182 and Durham hit .118. Freshman Sophie Connor had nine kills on .261 hitting with a match-high 15 digs. Freshman Morgan Harvey finished with seven kills. Freshman Cameron Letcher had five kills and a team-high four total blocks.

Andrea Serrano finished with 26 assists and seven digs. McKinley Johnson had 19 assists and eight digs. Zoe Schmidt finished with 12 digs and Amanda Velez had 10 digs.

The Blue Dragons out-blocked Ottawa 6-3 and out-dug the Braves 61-49.

Darby Weidl led the Braves with 13 kills on 39 attacks on .179 hitting.

SET 1: Opening Night got off to a slow start for the Blue Dragons, trailing 4-1 and 8-5. A Harvey kill started a 5-0 run. The Dragons took their first lead at 9-8 on a Head kill and Connor added a service ace for a two-point lead. Trailing 17-16, kills by Head and Harvey and an Ottawa attack error gave the Dragons a 19-17 lead. The set was then tied at 20-all and Hutch scored three straight and led 23-20 after a Harvey kill. After an Ottawa timeout, the Braves scored on 3 of the next four rallies to pull within 24-23, but handed the Dragons the first set with a service error. The Dragons out-hit Ottawa .106-.054 in the first set.

SET 2:&nbsp;The Blue Dragons ramped up the offense to .393 hitting with 17 kills on 28 attacks. Penaflor led a balanced offense with five kills. The Dragons held Ottawa to .000 hitting (6 kills, 6 errors, 23 attacks). The Dragons scored the first six points of the set only to see the Braves score the next five points. The Dragons stopped that advance with back-to-back Peneflor kills for an 8-5 lead. Leading 14-12, the Blue Dragons got two kills each from Penaflor and Durham to build a 20-14 lead. The Dragons finished off the set with a Letcher kill to win 25-18 and take a 2-0 match lead.

SET 3:&nbsp;Hutchinson was out-hit .229-.049 in the third set. The Dragons didn’t help their own cause with nine attack error, three service errors and a ball-handling error. The Dragons led 8-5, but Weidl had three kills in a 5-0 Brave run to take a 10-8 lead. The Dragons battled back to take leads at 16-15 and 17-16. The Dragons then became mistake-prone as Ottawa scored on 9 of the final 10 rallies to pull away. Weidl had seven kills and hit .538 in the third set to lead the Braves.

Parents and college students need to be sure their property is protected and maintained as they prepare for life away from home.

"Not a lot of people probably think about car repairs and maintenance and also insurance," said Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas. "That's in terms of auto insurance and property insurance."

Whether a parent's homeowners policy would cover theft or damage really depends on what was negotiated when the policy was purchased.

"It really depends on the policy," Steward said. "That's why it's important to have that discussion with your insurance agent to make sure what's covered and where it's covered. One roommate leaves a door unlocked, for example and someone could walk in and swipe a lot of equipment very quickly. It's important to have that protection of insurance, whether it's on the parent's homeowners policy or a separate renter's insurance policy."

Students should create a “dorm inventory.” Create a detailed inventory of all items you’ll be taking with you, including photos and receipts. In the event that you need to file a claim, an up-to-date inventory will help make the process easier. 

If you don't need an item right away and will go home before you need it, don't take it with you.

Loretta May Ruth Shultz, 67, passed away August 18, 2021, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice-St. Francis, Wichita.&nbsp; She was born October 2, 1953, in Hutchinson, to Roscoe T. and Charlotte (Hagerman) Shultz.

Loretta was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Community College, and Wichita State University.&nbsp; She worked as an occupational therapist, retiring with many years of service.&nbsp; Loretta was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hutchinson.

She was devoted to her country and served in the Patriot Guard Riders.&nbsp; Loretta was a lover of animals.&nbsp; She was always rescuing and fostering animals, especially dogs and cats.

Loretta is survived by:&nbsp; nieces,&nbsp; Julie (Bill) McKeel and Sarah (Larry) Ford; nephews, Leonard (Angela) Nelson, Nick Prine, Rob Prine, James Prine, John Prine, Danny Prine, and Martin Shultz; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews;&nbsp; and her fur babies, Delilah, PT, Boomer, and Snowflake.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; brother, Melvin Shultz; and sister, Grace Shultz.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Using the first half to get used to Rock Springs, Wyoming’s elevation of 6,388 feet, the Blue Dragons made the adjustment and owned possession for most of the second half in a 1-0 season-opening victory over Western Wyoming on Friday.

Freshman forward Hadlie Lowe first career goal turned out to be the only goal of the contest, which came in the 51st minute. Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Felix-Cardona also had an impressive Blue Dragon debut with six saves for her first career shutout.

The Blue Dragons (1-0) improved to 13-4 in season openers in program history with its 10th opening-day shutout. This was the Blue Dragons’ second 1-0 opening-day victory, the first since defeating Cloud County 1-0 in double overtime to open the 2010 season. This was Hutchinson’s first 1-0 win since August 31, 2017 (Rose State) and it’s the 13th 1-0 win all-time for Hutchinson.

Five minutes into the second half, sophomore Ella-Mae Miller received a cross-field pass and then traveled past midfield. Miller then split two Mustang defenders and hit Lowe in the channel. HutchCC women's soccer wins opener Friday

Kan. —&nbsp;&nbsp;Jerry Moran, Kansas’ senior U.S. Senator, in conjunction with fellow Kansas U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, introduced a resolution earlier this summer to recognize the Hutchinson Community College football team for winning the 2020-21 NJCAA National Championship.

Moran came to Hutchinson on Friday to meet the national champions and present framed copies of the resolution to Blue Dragon head coach Drew Dallas, NJCAA Championship Game MVP Tye Edwards, Blue Dragon Athletic Director Josh Gooch and Hutchinson Community College president, Dr. Carter File.

The ceremony took place in the Gallery Theatre in Stringer Fine Art Center. Also in attendance was the entire Blue Dragon coaching staff, all the returning players who were on the 2020-21 roster and the Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees.

Ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, the Blue Dragons maintained that lofty ranking and earned a spot in the NJCAA Championship Game to face No. 2 Snow College.

Hutchinson trailed 14-0 and 21-10 before rallying in the final 18 minutes of the game to defeat Snow 29-27 for the first football national championship in Blue Dragon history. Edwards was named the game’s Most Valuable Player rushing for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

Then on July 20, the United States Senate passed Senator Moran’s resolution commending and congratulating the Blue Dragons for winning the national championship.

“I asked if we could get a resolution drafted to honor and recognize the accomplishment,” Moran said. “I worked my may around the Senate floor and talked to my colleagues about getting this done. Ultimately this resolution passed unanimously.”

The Blue Dragons begin defense of that title on Saturday, September 4 in Coffeyville.

Former NFL player and Rose Bowl Champion, Keith Davis will visit Hutchinson High School on Monday, August 23, 2021 to present to students, staff and the Board of Education about the importance of education. 

Davis was originally scheduled to present at last year’s District Convocation, but his appearance was canceled due to COVID. Davis will now present to staff and students in person for his rescheduled visit.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Imaging Services at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is proud of the fact that they are developing the skills of their technicians throughout their careers.

"Our leadership has allowed us to create what's called a career ladder," said Raleigh White, Director of Imaging Services at HRMC. "Walking in the door, if you have a vision to have multiple modalities under your belt, being trained in CT, ultrasound, MRI, those are things you can achieve, working at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center."

That is an important point in obtaining and retaining the department's accreditation by the American College of Radiology.

"We're also a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence," White said. "We're one of only two hospitals out of 128 recognized by the Kansas Hospital Association with that status. The ACR is the organization that takes a look at about 38,000 facilities across the nation."

White notes that it is the great leadership at the hospital and a well-trained staff that allows the department to thrive.

"When we started this journey about three years ago, we had about 61% of our folks that were certified in two or more different areas," White said. "Now, we can boast that we're at about 81%, striving for 100%."

Imaging Services at HRMC proud of excellence in training and imaging

James Lee Bogner, 64, of Burrton, died August 12, 2021, at Harry Hynes Hospice, in Wichita. He was born October 3, 1956, in Hutchinson, to Vernon and Donna Block (Bogner).

James graduated from Haven High School in 1974 and went on to attend Hutchinson Community College to study engineering and music. He was a talented trumpet player and traveled to Europe with tour group of musicians. James was a farmer, and engineer in the agriculture industry, and worked part time at the Moundridge Post Office. He served on the Reno County Drainage District No. 2 board, as well as the Valley Township Cemetery board. James enjoyed woodworking in his early years.

On April 7, 1990, he married Karilynn French in Haven. They shared 31 years of marriage.

James is survived by: his wife, Karilynn Bogner, Burrton; daughter, Stacey; son-in-law; grandchildren; and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Tama Sue.

Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Valley Township Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, at Elliott Mortuary.

Students get free haircuts before school

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College is benefitting from a $132,000 federal grant as part of an effort to remedy the shortage of truckers in the central U.S.&nbsp;

Sens. Roger Marshall and Jerry Moran announced that the funds were being made available through the USDA to meet increased demands for licensed truck drivers across at least four counties in Kansas. The funding will be used for a training instructor at the college and to fund the purchase of the truck driving simulator.

“Our nation is facing a shortage of truck drivers and this pandemic has highlighted how important truckers are to our supply chains,” Sen. Moran said. “This grant will help provide Hutchinson Community College with the tools it needs to train the next generation of truckers.”

The college’s Board of Trustees approved a resolution supporting an application to the United States Department of Agriculture for a Rural Business Development Grant for the simulator back in November as part of the plans to kick off the new instructional course.

HutchCC gets grant funding for trucking instructional program

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees approved the budget for the next fiscal year during their monthly meeting. The next step in the process will be a public hearing on September 9 with likely final action to follow.

The budget totals $63.1 million&nbsp; on total taxes levied of $13.9 million. The total provides a slight reduction in the mill levy at 21.829, its lowest level in at least nine years. The number is just above the revenue neutral rate of 20.9 mills.&nbsp;

The Board also received an update on the College’s Higher Learning Commission annual assessment and approved a voluntary vaccination incentive being offered to faculty, staff and students.

In addition, the Board approved a new position to support the Kansas Promise Act scholarship program approved by the State in the 2021 legislative session. The Kansas Promise Scholarship Act provides scholarships for select two-year associate degree programs, making them available at no cost to eligible students when other forms of aid are not sufficient to cover the cost of books, tuition and fees.

The next meeting of the board will be on Thursday, September 9.&nbsp; The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Shears Technology Center Justice Theater.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nelda was a graduate of Hutchinson High School and Salt City Business College, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was employed at Christopher &amp; Banks Clothing Store as the manager for over 20 years.&nbsp; Nelda was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, and participated as a lector at the church.&nbsp; She enjoyed working in her flower garden and thoroughly loved being around her grandsons.

HutchCC BOT meets Thursday evening

With disasters still possible across the United States, the American Red Cross needs people to help.

"We're anticipating a pretty active hurricane season," Red Cross spokesperson Jan Hale said. "Just with everything that has gone on in the last year and a half, the Red Cross just wants people to know that we are in need of volunteers."

The Red Cross needs new volunteers to support disaster shelters. Volunteers will help with reception, registration, food distribution, dormitory, information collection and other vital tasks inside disaster shelters.

"We try to make it as easy as possible for people to get the information they need," Hale said. "They can simply go to redcross.org/volunteer and a lot of information will be right there on the website. You can even apply online."

In addition to the volunteer need, the Red Cross still needs blood donations.

With disasters still possible across the United States, the American Red Cross needs people to help."We're anticipating a pretty active hurricane season," Red Cross spokesperson Jan Hale said. "Just with everything that has gone on in the last year and a half, the Red Cross just wants people to know that we are in need of volunteers."The Red Cross needs new volunteers to support disaster shelters. Volunteers will help with reception, registration, food distribution, dormitory, information collection and other vital tasks inside disaster shelters."We try to make it as easy as possible for people to get the information they need," Hale said. "They can simply go to redcross.org/volunteer and a lot of information will be right there on the website. Wilson, 64, passed away August 8, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;He was born December 25, 1956, in Hutchinson, the son of Robert L. and Emily “Rosie” Wilson.&nbsp; Jim was a graduate of Buhler High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. MANHATTAN—The first redistricting town halls are underway in Kansas.&nbsp; The first of 14 meetings across the state was held in Manhattan Monday morning&nbsp;to gather opinions on how the Legislature should redraw political boundaries next year.

Six legislative leaders agreed to have the same number of town hall meetings that lawmakers held ahead of the last redistricting in 2012. Their first three sessions Monday came ahead of the release of the census data they need to do the job and with Republicans facing accusations that they are rushing the hearings.&nbsp;

Democrats have complained the GOP-controlled Legislature is stifling participation by scheduling the hearings over just five days. Republicans say the meetings are just a first step. Census data for cities and counties is to be released Thursday.

As part of Hospice and Homecare of Reno County's Festival of Remembrance, they are back to doing a car giveaway.

Fred Vague was a hero to his sons.  His life was simple but complex.  Life was difficult but he made the most of every opportunity.  From his birth in Castleton, Kansas, to his death in Wichita he did not physically stray from his roots.  However, that did not stop his active mind from going to far places and exploring complex things with his mind.  This was a result of the cruel act of blindness. 

Fred Robert Vague was born on July 31, 1925, to Frederick and Viola Mae (Dague) Vague.  He died on August 1, 2021 at the age of 96. He was a loving husband to Cristel Erlee (Higgins) Vague and the Father of Rex R. Vague and Ron A. Vague.  He had two siblings, Helen Ann McClellan and Melvin Vague.  “Fred R” or “Zeke” as many called him, had a long and fruitful life.  He grew up in the town of Hutchinson, Kansas, graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1943.  He joined the Navy on September 15, 1943 during World War II.  He advanced to the rank of Motor Machinist Mate 2c. And was honorably discharged from the Navy on May 19, 1946.  He attended Hutchinson Junior College from 1946 to 1948.  He married Cristel Erlee Higgins on July 30, 1948.  He attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas and after graduation with a law degree in 1951 moved to Wichita, Kansas to live.  Fred was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa and subsequently progressed to total blindness.  He worked for the Travelers Insurance Company in Wichita for 25 years as a claims attorney, and was the Supervising Adjustor of the Claims Department. 

Fred will be remembered as an active man that nothing seemed to bother much.  Considering his condition and the hardships it placed on him, that outlook on life was exceptional.  His active mind and inquisitiveness about all things served him well throughout the years.  He bowled on the Blind Bowlers League in Wichita for many years. He was a ham radio operator, wood worker and loved all things mechanical.  He was the builder, mechanic and pit crew for his sons 10 year Go Kart racing hobby.  He had a love and passion for automobiles and books, and although finances were tight managed to obtain several cars that are considered classic by today’s standards, as well as an extensive library. He read every day, first reading Braille, then listening to Talking Books furnished by the Kansas State Library, and went through a prodigious number of them over the years.  He was an avid Shocker fan, and enjoyed listening to WSU games whenever he could.  He also enjoyed attending the Drum and Bugle Corps competitions when they came to the Wichita area.   He and Erlee resided in the north Wichita area in the house of their dreams for 43 years.  Fred was an amazing man who accomplished many things even with his visual disability. Family and friends remember Fred as being sweet, tenderhearted and smart.  He leaves a legacy of love and integrity.  He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife. Survivors include his sons Rex (Georgianna Dirga) Vague; Ron (Brenda) Vague; grandchildren Briana Vague, Alex (Tam) Vague, Alana Vague, Aaron (Jessica Allen) Vague; and great grandchildren Destiny and Luna.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The vice president of student services at Hutchinson Community College is leaving for another job. Dr. Brett Bright has accepted a position with Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Bright will become the new vice president of program development, Beatrice campus director and athletic administrator for SCC. He replaces Bob Morgan, who retired. Bright was with Hutchinson Community College for six years.

He begins his new duties in Beatrice Sept. 1.

HutchCC's Brett Bright leaving for job in Nebraska

Shakur Juiston, who in 2017 led the Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team to a national championship, is part of the Orlando Magic’s Summer League Roster.

Juiston is currently working out with the Magic for the NBA Summer League that begins on Monday.

The Magic’s summer roster includes three members from the 2020-21 Orlando team, both of the Magic’s first-round draft picks from the recent NBA Draft and 15 other invitees, which includes Juiston.

After Juiston’s graduation from Hutchinson Community College in 2017, he transferred to UNLV. Injuries slowed his progress there and he finished his collegiate career at Oregon.

According to the Orlando Magic’s web site story on the summer-league player analysis, Juiston “does most of his damage from the dunker spot. He had great hands, polished footwork and can finish from either side of the basket.”

Juiston’s two seasons with the Blue Dragons in 2015-16 and 2016-17 are memorable.

The Blue Dragons made it all the way to the NJCAA championship game in Juiston’s freshman season in 2016.

The 6-foot-7 forward from Newark, New Jersey, put the Blue Dragons on his shoulders in 2017. Hutchinson won its third men’s basketball national championship with an 81-58 win over Eastern Florida State and Juiston was named the 2017 NJCAA Tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Juiston was also the 2017 Jayhawk Conference, NJCAA and NABC National Player of the Year in 2017.

Juiston, in his sophomore season with the Blue Dragons, averaged a double-double at 17.3 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. He shot 60.9 percent from the field and averaged 3.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocked shots per game. Juiston had 26 double-doubles and one triple-double.

Juiston broke the Blue Dragons' single-game rebound record of 20 against Dodge City and then went on to break the program's career rebounding record of 741. Juiston ranked sixth in the NJCAA in 2017 in total rebounds and was first in the nation in defensive rebounding average.

Juiston's 446 total rebounds in 2017 were third most in team history. His 12.1 boards per game average tied Ben Davis (1994) for sixth on the season list. His 67 blocks were seventh most in team season history.

As a junior at UNLV, Juiston averaged 14.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game and shot 63.9 percent from the floor. He was named second-team All-Mountain West. He averaged 10.8 points and 8.8 rebounds over the first eight games of his senior season, but suffered a torn meniscus against Illinois on December 8, 2018, forcing him to have season-ending surgery.

After the season he transferred to Oregon as a graduate transfer. Juiston averaged 7.9 points and 6.3 rebounds with the Ducks.

On February 19, 2021, Juiston was acquired by the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G League. He played in four games with the Hustle.

Former Dragon Juiston on Magic Summer Roster

A Hutchinson Community College wide receiver was booked into jail Monday afternoon on marijuana possession with intent to distribute charges.

Police also say 21-year-old Cameron Cordell Henderson had the pot within 1000 feet of a school.

Henderson's name was briefly dropped by Coach Drew Dallas as among the strong returners to his 2021 football squad at HutchCC at the conference's media day last month.

Henderson was the fourth-leading receiver on the national championship team last year and played in all eight games with 20 receptions for 267 yards and two touchdowns.

A Hutchinson Community College wide receiver was booked into jail Monday afternoon on marijuana possession with intent to distribute charges.Police also say 21-year-old Cameron Cordell Henderson had the pot within 1000 feet of a school.Henderson's name was briefly dropped by Coach Drew Dallas as among the strong returners to his 2021 football squad at HutchCC at the conference's media day last month.Henderson was the fourth-leading receiver on the national championship team last year and played in all eight games with 20 receptions for 267 yards and two touchdowns. Given his experience, it's likely Henderson would get even more playing time this fall. HutchCC has not commented on Henderson's arrest.
