Nelda Pearl Petering, 70, passed away August 9, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  She was born February 14, 1951, in Hutchinson, to Jesus and Pearl Lenore Cabral.

Nelda was a graduate of Hutchinson High School and Salt City Business College, Hutchinson.  She was employed at Christopher & Banks Clothing Store as the manager for over 20 years.  Nelda was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, and participated as a lector at the church.  She enjoyed working in her flower garden and thoroughly loved being around her grandsons.

Nelda is survived by:  daughter, Bernadette (Christopher) Hiebert of Hutchinson; grandsons, Ethan and Ryan Hiebert; mother, Pearl Cabral of Hutchinson; siblings, Jesse Cabral, Gretchen (Pablo) Sanchez, Kim Cabral, Gerard Cabral, Patrick (Carol) Cabral, and Randolph Cabral; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Bernadette’s father, Michael Petering.

She was preceded in death by:  her father, Jesus Cabral; and siblings, Brenda Cabral, Jerome Cabral, Judith Cabral, and Jeff Cabral.

Parish Rosary will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., both at the Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson, with Father Aaron Spexarth officiating.  Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson.  Friends may sign the book from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Reno County or Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
