HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees approved the budget for the next fiscal year during their monthly meeting. The next step in the process will be a public hearing on September 9 with likely final action to follow.

The budget totals $63.1 million  on total taxes levied of $13.9 million. The total provides a slight reduction in the mill levy at 21.829, its lowest level in at least nine years. The number is just above the revenue neutral rate of 20.9 mills.

The Board also received an update on the College’s Higher Learning Commission annual assessment and approved a voluntary vaccination incentive being offered to faculty, staff and students.

In addition, the Board approved a new position to support the Kansas Promise Act scholarship program approved by the State in the 2021 legislative session. The Kansas Promise Scholarship Act provides scholarships for select two-year associate degree programs, making them available at no cost to eligible students when other forms of aid are not sufficient to cover the cost of books, tuition and fees.

The next meeting of the board will be on Thursday, September 9.  The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Shears Technology Center Justice Theater.
