Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava cleared to play vs Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava has been cleared to play when the sixth-ranked Volunteers face No. 11 Georgia in a game with major College Football Playoff ramifications. Iamaleava was injured in a victory over Mississippi State and reportedly began the week in concussion protocol. After being listed as questionable on the first two injury reports filed with the Southeastern Conference, Iamaleava was not on the report Friday. Receiver Dont'e Thornton was also been given the green light to play for Tennessee after initially being listed as questionable with a hand injury.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Hays High Indians came into Gowans Stadium Friday night with pulling an upset on their minds and succeeded with a 28-0 shut-out over the #4 seed Hutch High Salthawks.

The Salthawks dug themselves a very quick hole on their first possession of the game with being stopped on fourth and two at their own 35 yard line as Kade Smith was stuffed by Hays High on two consecutive carries.

The Indians took over on downs and quickly ran the ball down to the Hutch High four yard line on a 30 yard run by Holden Lind to the Salthawk four yard line setting up first and goal from the four.

A running play by Hays placed the ball at the four and on second and goal from the two, Hays High quarterback Carter Graham scored on a quarter back running play to take the lead with only three minutes elapsing in the first quarter. After the Carson Moore PAT kick, Hays led 7-0.

Hays continued to dominate the first quarter scoring their second touchdown on the night by connecting on a Graham to Johnny Cano 34 yard play that put the Indians up 14-0 with 52 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Hays came out of the dressing room in the third quarter blanking the Salthawks until scoring their third TD of the night when Ian McGuire broke loose from 43 yards out on a 3rd and long call to make it 21-0 with 7:51 remaining to go in quarter three.

The Indians sealed the sectional win with a Lind touchdown run in the final quarter from 17 yards out with 6:47 remaining for the final score of 28-0.

It was the first game that Hutch High had been held scoreless in the season. The Salthawks ended their season at 8-3 including five shut out wins in the regular season.&nbsp;

Hays advances to take on Goddard Eisenhower in the semi-finals next Friday night in Goddard in the 5A West semi-finals.

Lind was the leading rusher on the night with 118 yards on 20 carries. Hutch High's Kade Smith had 69 yards on 21 carries capping off his senior season just short of 1,900 yards.

🏈 Hays High upsets Salthawks with shut-out in sectional

GREAT BEND, Kan. — No. 15 Hutchinson (4-1) hit the road for the first time this year for a neutral-court matchup against Truman College (Chicago).

The Dragons only turned the ball over nine times in a 98-59 victory.

🏀 MBB: Dragons get bounce-back win

GREAT BEND, Kan. — No. 1 Hutchinson (5-0) now has 42-straight victories dating back to last season's undefeated national championship run.

The Dragons opened the Barton Best Western/Cougar Booster Club Basketball Classic Friday afternoon with an 85-54 victory over Kansas Wesleyan's developmental team.

K-Dub entered the classic after Gogebic County (Michigan) backed out of play earlier this week.

Three Dragons scored in double-digits, led by Dylan Alexander (17) and Brynne Catcher (15) off the bench.

Hailey Jackson tallied 11 points and five rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Hutchinson shot 50.8% overall from the field, but just 7-of-24 (29.2%) from beyond the arc.

The Dragons gave up the ball only six times, while forcing the Coyotes into 26 turnovers.

Kamryn Rietzke led KWU with 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting.

The Hutchinson Community College football team looks to secure a spot in the NJCAA National Football Playoffs with a road trip to play the Garden City Broncbusters on Saturday in the 2024 regular-season finale.

The No. 2-ranked Blue Dragons (8-1, 4-1 KJCCC) and Broncbusters (1-9, 1-4 KJCCC) will square at 11 a.m. at Broncbuster Stadium.

Hutchinson enters the final week of the regular season tied for No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I Football Rankings with Georgia Military (10-1), which has already completed its season. Both teams have 135 poll points.

A victory would lock up a spot in the national playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons under head coach Drew Dallas. If the Blue Dragons could secure the outright No. 2 spot in the final regular-season poll, they would play host to a national semifinal at Gowans Stadium on the first weekend of December. If the Dragons slip to No. 3, they would be on the road for the semifinals.

The Blue Dragons got back into the win column last Saturday as&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/jordan_jr._waymond_h58l">Waymond Jordan Jr.</a>&nbsp;rushed for a career-high 213 yards on 24 carries and three touchdowns to lead Hutchinson to a 44-0 victory over Highland at Gowans Stadium. The Blue Dragons surpassed the 500-yard mark for total offense, while the Hutchinson defense posted its third shutout of the season, allowing only 136 total yards and just eight first downs..

Garden City enters play on Saturday after falling in a wild 49-45 battle against Iowa Central. There was a combined 839 total yards, 42 first downs and three lead changes in the game. Garden City running back Dejuan Lacey rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns, while Tyler Nelson added 144 yards as Garden City rushed for 361 yards against the Tritons.

Two of the best overall rushing attacks will do battle on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons are No. 3 in the NJCAA in rushing at 260.2 yards per game. The Dragons 5.9 yards per carry is sixth in the nation and their 33 rushing touchdowns are third in the NJCAA. Jordan is the nation's leading individual rusher with 1,199 yards and an average of 133.2 yards per game with 17 touchdowns.

Lacy lead's Garden City's NJCAA-leading rushing offense, which averages 293.5 yards per game. Lacy ranks fourth in the NJCAA in individual rushing with 1,073 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.

Both Hutchinson's Jordan and Garden City's Lacy have been NJCAA National Offensive Players of the Week this season.

The Blue Dragons are currently ranked seventh in the KJCCC in scoring offense at 87.5 points per game. The Dragons are No. 2 in field-goal percentage at 50.9 percent. They lead the KJCCC in 3-point efficiency at 40.5 percent and are fifth in free-throw shootings at 73.9 percent.

The Dragons rank fifth in the KJCCC in scoring defense at 71.5 points per game allowed. The Dragons rank sixth in field-goal defense at 38.9 percent and is ninth in 3-point defense at 31.1 percent.

The top-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team closes out the non-conference portion of the 2024-25 schedule this weekend with a pair of games at the Barton Classic in Great Bend.

The Blue Dragons (4-0) will play the Kansas Wesleyan JV at 1 p.m. on Friday and Redlands at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Barton Gym.

The Blue Dragons survived a Murray State upset bid last Saturday at the Sports Arena in a 69-68 Hutchinson win to close out the BSN Sports Tip-Off Classic. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;tied her career high with 30 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Blue Dragons.

The Kansas Wesleyan JV (1-3) is a replacement for original Classic entry Gogebic Community College, which pulled out of the weekend early in the week. Saturday's matchup vs. Redlands is the third-straight year the Dragons and Cougars play in Great Bend.

Offensively, the Blue Dragons are fourth in the KJCCC in scoring at 84.5 points per game. The Dragons are fourth in field-goal shooting at 42.3 percent. seventh from the 3-point line at 28.6 percent and third in the KJCCC at the free-throw line at 70.5 percent.

Defensively, the Dragons are sixth in scoring allowing 51.5 points per game. They rank sixth in the KJCCC in shooting defense at 32.6 percent and tied for sixth in 3-point defense at 25.0 percent.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;is currently the fourth-leading scorer in the KJCCC at 19.3 points per game. Her 9.8 rebounds per game is sixth in the KJCCC. Jackson has two 3-point-point games and two double-doubles this season.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/alexander_dylan_dasd">Dylan Alexander</a>&nbsp;is seventh in the KJCCC in free-throw shooting at 80.9 percent.

Sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/forbes_landon_o30r">Landon Forbes</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/pleasant_jada_y7vs">Jada Pleasant</a>&nbsp;are tied for fifth in the KJCCC in assists at 4.3 per game.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays will play their 2025 home games at the New York Yankees' nearby spring training ballpark amid uncertainty about the future of hurricane-damaged Tropicana Field. Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg told The Associated Press that Steinbrenner Field in Tampa is the best fit for the team and its fanbase. At about 11,000 seats, it's also the largest of the spring training sites in Florida. The Rays' home since 1998, the domed Tropicana Field, was heavily damaged by Hurricane Milton on Oct. 9, with most of its fabric roof shredded. It likely cannot be repaired before the 2026 season.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Cam Carter scored 20 points against his former team, freshman Vyctorius Miller added 15 points and LSU beat Kansas State 76-65 on Thursday night.

Carter, who spent his sophomore and junior seasons with Kansas State, was 6 of 11 from the field, including three made 3-pointers. He has scored 62 points and made 11 of 19 3-pointers in his first three games with LSU after averaging 14.6 points last season with the Wildcats.

Dug McDaniel drove the baseline for an open layup and made a steal at the other end, leading to his fast-break layup to cut Kansas State’s deficit to 56-46 with 9:14 remaining. After a timeout, Carter sank a 3-pointer from the top of the arc.

Miller missed a wide open 3-pointer early in the shot clock in the closing minutes but got his own rebound before making a 3 from the corner to extend the lead to 72-57 with 2:33 left.

It was just Kansas State’s fifth loss at home in 36 games under coach Jerome Tang.

Jordan Sears had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Daimion Collins added 12 points for LSU (3-0). Corey Chest, who entered with just three minutes played this season, grabbed 13 rebounds in 21 minutes.

David N’Guessan and McDaniel each scored 16 for Kansas State (2-1).

It was the third consecutive year the teams have played each other. LSU and K-State first met in the finals of the Cayman Islands Classic, with Kansas State winning 61-59 when a late LSU bucket was disallowed. Then last year the Wildcats won 75-60 in the Maravich Center.

Watching the Kansas City Royals go from losing 106 games in 2023 to winning 86 games and breaking a nine-year playoff drought in 2024 was a fun ride for many fans. Many other fans saw little of the turnaround as convoluted television contracts limited viewing opportunities.

That could change for the 2025 season. On Wednesday, the Kansas City Star announced the team is renegotiating its contract with Bally Sports Kansas City. An announcement on a new contract could be announced as early as this week.

Royals management had two real options: seek a new deal with Diamond Sports Group for less money or give broadcasting rights to another organization. Major League Baseball would take over broadcasting on its own channel.

Bally Sports KC has been rebranded as FanDuel Sports Network Kansas City after Diamond Sports Group filed for bankruptcy in 2023. Diamond Sports announced Wednesday it had signed a multi-year agreement with Amazon Prime Video, which would broadcast games in "each team's designated geographic area."

Royals fans already using Prime Video would have to pay an additional fee to watch any games streamed via the service. Bally already limited geographic access to Royals games to customers using its app. The new designation via Prime would remain the same.

It was the highest total by any NBA player this season and five short of Antetokounmpo's career high of 64 set last season against the Indiana Pacers. Antetokounmpo says with three keys players out, he realized that he needed to be aggressive while getting his teammates involved.

Homes of Chiefs' quarterback Mahomes and tight end Kelce were broken into last month

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Law enforcement reports show the homes of Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce were broken into last month. Before practice on Wednesday, Mahomes described it as "frustrating" and "disappointing." The break-ins were first reported by TMZ. They happened just before and on the day of the Chiefs' 26-13 home victory over the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 7, as Kelce's superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift watched from the stands. No injuries were reported in either case. Mahomes said he couldn't provide many details because the investigation is ongoing. He described it as "something you don't want to happen to anybody and obviously yourself."

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich had a stroke earlier this month, is expected to make full recovery

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Basketball Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich has been away from the team because he suffered a mild stroke earlier this month, the San Antonio Spurs announced Wednesday. Popovich is in his 29th season as coach of the Spurs and there is no timetable for his return to the sideline, the team said. The stroke happened on Nov. 2 at the team's arena, and Popovich is expected to make a full recovery. The Spurs say "the organization is grateful to the extended community for providing privacy and space to the Popovich family."

Caitlin Clark draws a big crowd for an LPGA pro-am in Florida

BELLEAIR, Fla. (AP) — Caitlin Clark drained a 20-footer, this time with a putter. The WNBA rookie of the year played in the pro-am at the LPGA Tour event in Florida called The Annika. Clark brought her golf game and a big buzz to the tour. Pelican Golf Club was packed with spectators to watch Clark play nine holes with world No. 1 Nelly Korda and then Annika Sorenstam. Clark has an endorsement deal with Indiana-based Gainbridge, which sponsors the tournament. Brittany Lincicome brought a basketball for Clark to sign for her daughters. Lincicome says an appearance by the popular Clark can only help the LPGA Tour.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Mike Tyson isn't in the mood for talking now that the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion's fight with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is near. Tyson and Paul meet Friday night at the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. The issue of Tyson's health didn't come up at a news conference about 20 miles from AT&amp;T Stadium. A bout originally scheduled for July 20 was postponed after Tyson had to be treated for a stomach ulcer when he fell ill on a flight. Officials say Tyson has been cleared medically and is undergoing checkups the same way any fighter would for a sanctioned bout in Texas.

Rushing for his first career collegiate 200-yard rushing game, Hutchinson Community College running back&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/jordan_jr._waymond_h58l">Waymond Jordan Jr.</a>&nbsp;hit the daily double on Wednesday being named both the Jayhawk Conference Offensive Player of the Week and the NJCAA National Offensive Player of the Week.

The sophomore running back from Pensacola, Florida posted his first career 200-yard rushing game in a 44-0 win by the number three Blue Dragons over Highland last Saturday at Highland. Jordan rushed for a career-high 213 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns of 8, 15, and 67 yards.

With his 41-yard run in the first quarter, Jordan became the 20th Blue Dragon in team history to surpass 1,000 yards in a season.With 1,190 yards for the season, Jordan is ranked No. 11 in Blue Dragon single-season rushing history.This is Jordan's third KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week award.
