Chris Klieman is expected to step down as Kansas State’s head football coach as early as today, and the Wildcats already have his successor lined up: former K-State quarterback Collin Klein, according to the Manhattan Mercury.

The newspaper reports that the university plans to announce the coaching transition sometime this week. As of early Wednesday, no formal news conference had been scheduled, though the change is anticipated to take effect in the coming days.

Klieman, 58, recently finished his seventh season in Manhattan. He posted a 54–37 record and guided the Wildcats to the 2022 Big 12 championship. K-State is bowl-eligible at 6–6, with its postseason destination still to be determined.

Klein, 36, has spent the past two seasons as offensive coordinator at Texas A&M after previously serving in the same role under Klieman. A program legend, Klein led the Wildcats to a Big 12 title as quarterback in 2012 and finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up. He is a member of the Ring of Honor at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

K-State already has an early signing day press conference set for 11 a.m. today.
