The last time the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team played the Cowley Tigers, the Blue Dragons suffered a costly late-season upset loss.

The No. 19-ranked Blue Dragons (9-2, 4-1 KJCCC) look to gain a bit of revenge on Saturday when the Tigers (6-4, 2-2 KJCCC) come to the Sports Arena for a 1 p.m. conference tipoff at the Sports Arena.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) beginning at 12:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed exclusively on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 12:45 p.m.

Last year's 70-60 loss to the Tigers in Arkansas City so damaging was that it cost the Blue Dragons a shot at the outright 2025 KJCCC championship, which eventually was shared with Dodge City.

Entering play on Saturday, the Blue Dragons trail Dodge City by one game in the KJCCC standings. Hutchinson travels to No. 1 Dodge City on Wednesday.

The Blue Dragon defense continues to be tough entering Saturday's game. Over their last five games, the Dragons are allowing 46.0 points per game, the best in the Jayhawk over that span.

Hutchinson comes off a 65-42 win on Wednesday at Barton. Freshman Whitney Brown led the Blue Dragons with 16 points and seven assists. Freshman Kaia Smith posted her first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blue Dragons limited Barton to 27.1 percent shooting and forced 21 turnovers.

Cowley is off to a 2-2 start in league play with wins over Colby and Cloud County and losses to nationally ranked Dodge City and Coffeyville.

The Tigers lost 67-52 to No. 25 Coffeyville on Wednesday in Arkansas City. Aniyah Burney came off the bench to lead Cowley with 18 points.

Burney is Cowley's leading scorer this season at 13.7 points per game. Megan Simon averages 11.2 points and Saliyah Henderson-Johnson is the third Tiger to average in double figures at 10.6 points per game.

Cowley averages 67.9 points per game offensively and 57.5 points defensively. That defensive average is 66.5 points in the Tigers' four conference games.

Saturday's meeting will be the 60th all-time meeting between Hutchinson and Cowley with the Blue Dragons leading the series 34-25. Since the current conference format began in 2016, the Dragons are 16-3 vs. Cowley.
