LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;Kansas women&apos;s basketball won their sixth-straight game and improved to 10-1 on the season as the Jayhawks knocked off Penn State 68-65 inside Allen Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon. With only 35 seconds left, Copeland drained a corner three to give Kansas its first lead of the second half at 64-63. 🏀 KU women win sixth straight in dramatic fashion

CLEVELAND (AP) — The only thing the Chiefs had to worry about in the final minutes Sunday was Patrick Mahomes' ankle.

Mahomes threw two touchdown passes before limping off with an injury in the fourth quarter, Xavier Worthy ran for a score and Kansas City finally had a relatively easy win, 21-7 over the mistake-prone Cleveland Browns.

Mahomes connected for TDs in the first half&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Chiefs/status/1868357953780396068">with Juju Smith-Schuster</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Chiefs/status/1868373621355274266">Noah Gray</a>&nbsp;as the Chiefs (13-1) built a 21-0 lead and then slogged their way through an ugly second half.

The defending Super Bowl champions have 10 wins by seven points or less, with six coming on the game's final play.

Mahomes didn't finish the game, leaving when he got his ankle rolled up on while being tackled. Carson Wentz replaced him for the final 5:23. Mahomes finished 19 of 38 for 159 yards.

After the game, Mahomes said X-rays were negative. He said he would have lobbied harder to stay in if the Browns had gotten within one score.

“We'll get into the rehab part, the treatment part and try to get back on a short week,” said Mahomes, noting the Chiefs will play again Saturday — the second of three games in 11 days. “With all the adrenaline from the game, it's hard to tell now (if he can play). Usually, it's the day after when you get a good sense of it."

Mahomes was driven to the Chiefs' buses on a cart.

Coach Andy Reid was relieved Mahomes was not more seriously hurt.

“It's not broken, that's all I can tell you,” Reid said. “We'll have to see how it goes down the road.”

The Browns (3-11) tried to put up a fight, but had six turnovers. Other than a&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Browns/status/1868390624145088796">62-yard TD run from Jerome Ford</a>, Cleveland had few offensive highlights and too many self-inflicted miscues.

Jameis Winston threw more three interceptions — two in the end zone to give him eight in his last three games — and the Browns had two fumbles. The five turnovers made things much easier on Mahomes and the Chiefs, not that they needed a lot of help.

Cleveland running back Nick Chubb suffered a broken foot. It's another setback for the star, who had a devastating knee injury last season.

Winston was pulled after his third pick and replaced by second-year QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who also was intercepted. Coach Kevin Stefanski would not commit to a starter for next week.

“You can't have six turnovers and win,” Stefanski said. “At any level.”

Cleveland's Jerry Jeudy had 11 catches for 108 yards and went over 1,000 for the season.

The Chiefs' second TD — Mahomes' 6-yard pass to Gray with 4:46 left in the first half — came on the same play Browns&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Reflog_18/status/1868374001279795655">star defensive end Myles Garrett left the field in extreme pain</a>&nbsp;with an apparent eye injury.

Garrett was rushing Mahomes and being blocked by Chiefs left tackle Joe Thuney when he suddenly stopped. The league's reigning Defensive Player of the Year immediately grabbed his face mask and pulled off his helmet, flinging it away before dropping to the turf.

He was face down for several minutes before being helped off. As Garrett walked toward the locker room holding a towel to his face, Thuney came over and patted him on the back. Garrett was only gone for a short period before he ran back on to the field and finished the game.

The Chiefs took a 21-0 lead early in the third, capitalizing on a pick by Winston that went off Chubb's hands. Four plays later, Worthy took a deep pitch from Mahomes, turned the corner and scored.

Kansas City's first score was set up by Cleveland's first turnover.

After the Browns forced a three-and-out on Kansas City's first possession, Cleveland's James Proche II fumbled during a punt return and the Chiefs recovered at the 21.

Mahomes then connected with Schuster for a 7-yard TD with 12:12 left in the first quarter.

Taylor Swift ended her world tour. She decided not to hit the road in the NFL just yet.

The pop superstar had been expected to attend the game to cheer on boyfriend Travis Kelce, the Chiefs tight end who grew up in Cleveland. But Swift, who turned 35 on Friday, wasn't on hand despite rumors she would make an appearance.

Taylor has been at several Chiefs games in Kansas City the past two seasons since she began dating Kelce.

Chiefs: S Chamarri Conner suffered a concussion while making a tackle in the second quarter. ... Kelce came up limping after an early play, but walked it off and stayed in. He left the locker room before reporters had access.

Browns: CB Martin Emerson Jr. went to the locker room in the second quarter to be evaluated for a concussion. He did not return. ... DT Shelby Harris (elbow) went out in the second quarter.

CHICAGO &nbsp;–&nbsp;DePaul outscored Wichita State by 24 in the second half, erasing a five-point halftime deficit in a 91-72 win at Wintrust Arena Saturday afternoon.

Wichita State (8-2) had won nine straight games when leading at the half. The Shockers dropped to 20-7 under&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/paul-mills/1241">Paul Mills</a>&nbsp;when holding a halftime lead.

DePaul entered the game as one of the nation's top three-point shooting teams, and they proved it Saturday. The Blue Demons connected on 17-of-33 attempts, good for 52 percent. The 17 made three-pointers were the most by an opponent since Memphis hit 19 back in January.

Ten of Wichita State's season-high 16 turnovers came after halftime.

For much of the game Wichita State was able to get the shots they wanted, shooting better than 60 percent until finishing the game at 51.0 percent. In the first half Wichita State was 17-for-27 from the field (63.0 percent) and 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.

The Shockers also had their worst free throw shooting game of the season, going 13-for-22 (59 percent).

Four Shockers finished in double figures, led by&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/xavier-bell/9058">Xavier Bell</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/harlond-beverly/9059">Harlond Beverly</a>&nbsp;with 14 points apiece.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/justin-hill/9069">Justin Hill</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/quincy-ballard/9056">Quincy Ballard</a>&nbsp;finished with 12 each.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/bijan-cortes/9060">Bijan Cortes</a>&nbsp;dished out seven assists, giving him 17 over his last two games.

DePaul was paced by a pair of 20-point scorers in Jacob Meyer with a game-high 23 and CJ Gunn right behind with 22. The trio of Meyer, Gunn and Isaiah Rivera combined to shoot 13-for-20 from three-point range.

A back and forth, fast-paced first half saw the Shockers grab a 47-42 lead at halftime after trailing by as many as eight.

DePaul came out of the locker room and splashed in a three-pointer on the opening possession and by the 16:14 mark had jumped back in front, 52-51 on a Rivera triple.

Wichita State stayed right in it, tying the game at 60 with 13:01 remaining. The Blue Demons then held a 69-66 lead at the 9:08 mark, and it wouldn't get any closer from there. DePaul finished the game on a 22-5 run. Wichita State went through a near 4:00 minute scoring drought.

The Dragons then caught fire from distance and knocked down 7-of-12 treys in the second half.

Back-to-back threes, one from Quez Thornton and the other from Khalil Arnold, tied the game at 55 with less than 10 minutes to play.

Thornton scored 21 of his game-high 27 points in the second half.

Arnold scored 11 of his total 18 points in the second frame.

Hutchinson took the lead for good on an Isaiah Jackson layup with seven minutes to play.

Jackson finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, his second double-double of the year.

Mikhail Abdul-Hamid hit a clutch three with 1:50 to play to put Hutchinson up six. The sharp-shooting redshirt sophomore has been in a shooting slump lately (3-of-16).

🏀 MBB: Dragons overcome double-digit deficit

CONCORDIA, Kan. — No. 1 Hutchinson (13-0, 7-0) has now won 50 games straight after defeating Cloud County (10-3, 5-3) on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Dragons have now won 35-straight conference games.

Hutchinson jumped out to an 11-point advantage after one and went into the break up 18.

Jada Pleasant had a career-high 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting with four assists.

Pleasant had assists on the first two baskets of the game. Madi Denison scored four-of-her-six total points on Pleasant's first two assists.

Hailey Jackson led the Dragons with 23 points and 10 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the season.

The Dragons drilled 6-of-8 three-pointers in the first half and finished 61.5% from distance.

Hutchinson held the Thunderbirds to 2-of-15 from beyond the arc. Cloud County hit 12 triples in its last matchup with Coffeyville.

TiAna Davis was coming off excellent scoring outings (27 points and 31 points) before the Dragon defense held her to seven points on 2-of-13 shooting, including 0-of-7 in the first half.

Cloud County's Lilliana Petersen fouled out for the first time this year and played only 9 minutes and 27 seconds after averaging nearly 25 minutes each game in conference play.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Zeke Mayo hit five 3s and scored 26 points, Hunter Dickinson had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and No. 10 Kansas bounced back from consecutive losses with a 75-60 rout of NC State on Saturday.

Dajuan Harris Jr. added 15 points and six assists for the Jayhawks (8-2), who scored the first 15 points of the game but didn't have it in hand until midway through the second half, when Dickinson scored eight consecutive points to bury the Wolfpack.

Kansas won its 20th consecutive nonconference home game and avoided its first three-game skid since the 2022-23 season.

Ben Middlebrooks had 14 points and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield finished with 12 for the Wolfpack (7-4), who have lost their last 13 games to Kansas since winning their first matchup at Allen Fieldhouse on Dec. 20, 1958.

NC State was able to get the Kansas big men into foul trouble, and that allowed Middlebrooks to have success. But the Wolfpack didn't get enough production from the perimeter, where Dontrez Styles and Marcus Hill struggled.

Kansas proved it could survive foul trouble in the paint. Dickinson had three fouls and KJ Adams Jr. and Flory Bidunga four apiece with 12 minutes left. But the Jayhawks' guards, and Mayo in particular, were able to take over the game.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas senior cornerback Mello Dotson was named Second Team All-America by the Walter Camp Foundation, the organization announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday night.

Dotson, of Daytona Beach, Fla., becomes Kansas' first All-American since 2018 and the Jayhawks' first cornerback to be honored since Aqib Talib in 2007. Dotson becomes Kansas' sixth Walter Camp All-American all-time, joining Talib (2007), Anthony Collins (2007), David Jaynes (1973) and Gale Sayers (1963, 1964).

The Walter Camp All-America team is the nation's oldest college football All-America team and is one of five outlets recognized by the NCAA to determine consensus All-Americans (Football Writers Association of America, Associated Press, Sporting News and the American Football Coaches Association).

Dotson's standout senior season was highlighted by a Big 12-leading five interceptions, which were the third-most among cornerbacks nationally. Dotson returned two of his four interceptions for touchdowns, which were tied for the most nationally.

Over his career, Dotson totaled 12 interceptions, 177 total tackles and 37 passes defended. Dotson's four interceptions returned for touchdowns set the Kansas school record.

Following the 2024 season, Dotson was named First Team All-Big 12 and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Honorable Mention. Dotson's performance vs. No. 17 Iowa State, which included a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown, earned him the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Defensive Back of the Week and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors.

This year is the 135th edition of the Walter Camp All-America team, the nation's oldest college football All-America team. Twenty-five players were selected to the first team by the 131 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors. In addition, 25 players were selected to the Second Team.

Dotson is one of eight Walter Camp All-America selections from the Big 12 Conference, while Kansas is one of seven teams represented among Big 12 Conference schools.

KANSAS- The Kansas Shrine Bowl is proud to introduce the coaches who will lead the East and West teams in the 52nd Kansas Shrine Bowl presented by Mammoth on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Dodge City, Kansas. Each classification 1A through 6A is represented on the coaching staff, while the Head Coach of each team is selected from the previous year’s Kansas Shrine Bowl assistants.

The West team will be led by Dominick Dingle (Wichita Heights) and assisted by Russ Wells (Wichita South – 6A), Mike Vernon (Hutchinson – 5A), Daniel Myears (Mulvane – 4A), Tyson Bauerle (Hesston – 3A), Butch Hayes (Council Grove – 2A), and Alex McMillian (Plainville – 1A). Wells (2020), Vernon (2021) and Bauerle (2018) have all assisted on the West staff in previous Shrine Bowls, while Bauerle also led the 2019 West team to a 26-7 victory as the Head Coach at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City.

The East team will be led by Garrett Michael (Sabetha) and assisted by Josh Koerkenmeier (Blue Valley West – 6A), Jared Swafford (Seaman – 5A), Clete Frazell (Chanute – 4A), Mike Berg (Wellsville – 3A), Logan Wyrick (Humboldt – 2A), and Roger Holthaus (Centralia – 1A). Among the 2025 assistants, only Wyrick (2019) has previously coached in the Kansas Shrine Bowl.

“We’re thankful to have a great group of coaches willing to give of their time and talents to lead our teams in the 2025 Kansas Shrine Bowl,” said Brice Kesler, Executive Director of the Kansas Shrine Bowl. “It’s not an easy job to bring 44 players from different programs together and mold them into a team within one week. Franco has been charged with sexually abusing a minor, sexual and commercial exploitation against a minor, and human trafficking.

The court was orange this time, but otherwise it looked and felt like the 2021 playoffs. The Knicks had just been eliminated, and Young was celebrating in the middle of their arena. The star guard led the Hawks to a 108-100 victory in the NBA Cup quarterfinals. They will head to Las Vegas to play the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday.

An Ohio politician has seen enough flag planting. Republican state Rep. Josh Williams said Wednesday on social media he's introducing a bill to make flag planting in sports a felony in the state. His proposal comes after the Nov. 30 fight at the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry football game when the Wolverines beat the Buckeyes 13-10 and then attempted to plant their flag at midfield. A fight ensued and police had to use pepper spray to disperse the players. Former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield famously planted a flag in the middle of the field at Ohio State after the Sooners beat the Buckeyes in 2017.

The Saudi bid was the only candidate and was acclaimed by the applause of more than 200 FIFA member federations. They took part remotely in an online meeting hosted in Zurich on Wednesday by the soccer body's president Gianni Infantino. The decision was combined with approving the only candidate to host the 2030 World Cup. Spain, Portugal and Morocco will co-host in a six-nation project, with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay each getting one of the 104 games. The South American connection will mark the centenary of Uruguay hosting the first World Cup in 1930.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Senior wing&nbsp;Achor Achor&nbsp;has left the Kansas State men’s basketball team for personal reasons, head coach&nbsp;Jerome Tang&nbsp;announced on Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 11).

“Achor and I have decided that there are more important things than basketball for him at this time,” said Tang. “I hope some time away will allow him to reprioritize things in his life and allow him to finish his degree. We wish him well. My focus is always to help young men become the best version of themselves and to help K-State become an elite program. We are developing men who will be great husbands and fathers.”

The Melbourne, Australia native transferred to K-State this summer after 2 seasons at Samford. He appeared in 7 games, averaging 7.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 13.2 minutes per game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team ended a brief two-game skid with an 83-78 win over Garden City on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson (7-5, 3-3 KJCCC) led by as many as 13 points in the first half and held a 36-26 lead at halftime.

Garden City (6-6, 2-5) went on an 11-0 run to take a 45-44 lead with 13:21 to play in the second half for its first lead of the night.&nbsp;

The Broncbusters pulled within 79-76 with 32.5 seconds to play, but the Blue Dragons knocked down free throws when it mattered, going 26 of 28 for the game.

D.J. Dudley and Jaquez Thornton each had 21 points to lead the scoring for HutchCC. Bo Aldridge finished with 18 points in the win, 16 of which came in the second half. Isaiah Jackson was big for the Blue Dragons in the paint, scoring 14 points.

Garden City was led by Antonio Chol with 27 points, playing all 40 minutes.&nbsp;

Bobby Cannon finished with just two points for Hutchinson, but made his presence on the defensive end, recording 12 rebounds and two blocked shots, including a huge one late in the game on a 3-point attempt by the Broncbusters.

Hutchinson will travel to Concordia on Saturday to face Cloud County (9-4, 3-4) with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m. from Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
