The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team looks to snap a three-game losing streak on Monday against one of its chief Jayhawk Conference rivals.
The Blue Dragons (10-9, 5-8 KJCCC) takes on No. 25 Butler (13-6, 9-4 KJCCC) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The game was pushed back 48 hours because of Saturday's winter storm.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 7:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed live and for free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 7:15 p.m.
The Blue Dragons are in the midst of their first three-game losing streak since the 2022-23 season. Last Wednesday, the Blue Dragons battling high-scoring Garden City in a 97-93 loss. Kyrell Shaw had his fourth 30-point game in the last five games with 35 points. While outshooting and out-rebounding the Broncbusters, the Blue Dragons weren't able to overcome 13 pointers.
Hutchinson now faces the No. 1 scoring and No. 1 3-point shooting team in the KJCCC.
Butler is averaging 108.6 points per game and are making 13.9 3-pointers per contest while shooting 35.6 percent from distance.
The Blue Dragons do own a victory over the Grizzlies this season. Hutchinson traveled to El Dorado on November 22 and defeated the Grizzlies 83-82. Bobby Cannon hit a last-second 3-pointer to boost the Blue Dragons to the victory.
Daleron Thomas led four Blue Dragons in double figures with 20 points. Shaw had 16 points as the Blue Dragons shot 57.1 percent overall. The Grizzlies hit 13 3-pointers in the game with eight different players hitting at least one 3-pointer. The Blue Dragons held Butler to 38.1 percent shooting.
Butler has won two games in a row and 4 of its last 5 games. Last Wednesday the Grizzlies outlasted Coffeyville 110-104 in El Dorado.
Jaise Combs and Tristan Hankins combined for eight of the Grizzlies 15 3-pointers against the Red Ravens. Hankins scored 21 points and Combs had 19.
The Grizzlies have surpassed the 100-point mark 12 times this season.
Monday's game will be the 204th between Hutchinson and Butler in a continuous series that dates back to 1929. The Blue Dragons lead the series 132-71.
Monday's game is the first of a two-game homestand for the Blue Dragons. Hutchinson plays host to Independence at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.
