GAINESVILLE, Texas &ndash;&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/golly_taylor_l19d">Tailor Golly</a>&nbsp;hit a two-run home run to center field and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/dice_emily_75aj">Emily Dice</a>&nbsp;hit an inside-the-park home run to lead the No. 22-ranked Hutchinson Community College softball team to a doubleheader split with North Central Texas on Sunday at Darwin Fields.
After dropping a 1-0 decision in eight innings in the opening game, the Blue Dragons erupted for six runs in the first inning en route to a 9-3 victory in the second game.
The Blue Dragons are now 4-4 and will open Jayhawk Conference play at 1 and 3 p.m. on Wednesday against the Pratt Beavers at Fun Valley in Hutchinson's 2025 home opener.
GAME 2 RECAP &ndash; Hutchinson 9, NCTC 3 Golly led the Blue Dragons in the second game going 2 for 4 with a two-run triple, two-run home run and four RBIs. Her two-run triple came in Hutchinson's six-run first inning. Golly's two-run home run came in the sixth inning that gave the Dragons a 9-3 lead.
Dice was 2 for 3 with a career-high three RBIs. Dice hit a two-run single in the first inning and her inside-the-park home run came in the third inning that upped Hutchinson's lead to 7-3.
<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_bailey_44zk">Bailey Backhaus</a>&nbsp;was 2 for 4 with two runs with an RBI and a stolen base. The Dragons out-hit the Lions 11-9.
Golly's two-run triple started the Blue Dragons' 6-run first inning. She scored on a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/stauffer_gabby_t8qf">Gabby Stauffer</a>&nbsp;RBI single. Then with the bases loaded and one out, Dice singled to left field to score Stauffer and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/brawner_brie_hldl">Brie Brawner</a>.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_bailey_44zk">Bailey Backhaus</a>&nbsp;closed out the big inning with an RBI single that scored&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/thomas_aubree_o0p2">Aubree Thomas</a>.
North Central Texas scored a single run in the first and two runs in the second to pull within 6-3. Dice's inside-the-park homer to left-center in the third inning gave the Dragons a 7-3 lead.
Thomas (2-1) worked the first six innings to earn her second victory of the season. She gave up three hits and three runs, but only one was earned. Thomas had two strikeouts and no walks. Thomas' final four innings were scoreless.
<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/schmidt_jessica_edec">Jessica Schmidt</a>&nbsp;worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning with two strikeouts.
GAME 1 RECAP &ndash; NCTC 1, Hutchinson 0 (8 innings) Playing extra inning for a second-straight day, the Dragons were walked off by North Central Texas with a single run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Starting pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/tomlinson_morgan_0v0v">Morgan Tomlinson</a>&nbsp;(2-2) pitched seven inning and allowed five hits and one earned run. Tomlinson struck out five and she hit two batters.
Hutchinson had four total hits with singles from&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_bailey_44zk">Bailey Backhaus</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_brooke_ngsp">Brooke Backhaus</a>&nbsp;and Dice and a double from Golly.

Bell takes only lead in OT to edge Hocevar, Larson in another thrilling NASCAR finish in Atlanta

HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — Christopher Bell edged Carson Hocevar and Kyle Larson in overtime Sunday in another close NASCAR Cup Series finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Bell led only the final lap in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and had a slight edge on the outside when the caution light came on in overtime following a wreck by Josh Berry. The 30-year-old Oklahoma driver has 10 career Cup victories. Austin Cindric led in his Team Penske Ford before he and William Byron, the Daytona 500 winner last week, wrecked with three laps remaining, setting up the overtime. Kyle Busch finished seventh, ending his hopes of snapping a winless streak on the Cup Series. Busch won the Atlanta Truck Series race Saturday.

No. 1 Notre Dame's backcourt is a tough matchup. NC State's Zoe Brooks was ready for it

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — N.C. State guard Zoe Brooks had a huge day in helping the 13th-ranked Wolfpack beat No. 1 Notre Dame in double overtime. The 5-foot-10 sophomore went for a career-high 33 points and 10 rebounds in the 104-95 win. Brooks had never scored more than 21 points in a game before Sunday. But her big performance included making all 14 of her free throws while attacking the paint. Brooks said she was eager for the challenge of playing Notre Dame's All-American backcourt of Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles.

Alex Rodriguez makes half-court shot, wins Bucknell student $10,000

LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Former Major League Baseball star Alex Rodriguez showed his skill on the hardwood, making a half-court shot to win a Bucknell student $10,000. The 14-time All-Star was invited to take the shot Sunday during halftime of Bucknell's basketball game against Army. The 49-year-old tossed a high-arching shot that banked off the backboard and through the hoop, setting off a celebration with students. The three-time MVP was at Bucknell to speak about his company Jump Platforms, which he founded with two other entrepreneurs, Jordy Leiser and Marc Lore. Lore and Leiser graduated from Bucknell.

Arizona apologizes for 'unacceptable chant' from fans at end of basketball loss to BYU

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona has apologized after the school says some fans participated in an "unacceptable chant" following the basketball team's 96-95 loss to BYU on Saturday night. According to online video, fans can be heard yelling a profane phrase directed at Mormons as the teams were leaving the court. BYU is the flagship school for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Richie Saunders scored 23 points, including two free throws with 3.2 seconds left, to give BYU the road victory at No. 19 Arizona. It was the Cougars' fourth win in a row and second consecutive over a ranked opponent.

Mikaela Shiffrin gets historic 100th World Cup race win and ties record for most podiums

SESTRIERE, Italy (AP) — Mikaela Shiffrin has created more history in her storied ski career by winning a World Cup slalom on Sunday. Shiffrin got a record-extending 100th World Cup race win. Her 155th career podium finish in World Cup races also tied the all-time record with Swedish men's great Ingemar Stenmark. Shiffrin was the first-run leader at Sestriere, Italy and protected that to finish 0.61 seconds ahead of Zrinka Ljutic who is a three-time winner this season. Shiffrin's U.S. teammate Paula Moltzan was third.

Brian Campbell cashes in on a big break and wins Mexico Open for first PGA Tour title

VALLARTA, Mexico (AP) — Brian Campbell played well enough to win the Mexico Open for his first PGA Tour victory. He also needed the break of a lifetime. In a playoff with Aldrich Potgieter, Campbell sent his tee shot on the second extra hole well off the property and out-of-bounds. But it hit some trees and bounced back in play. He wound up hitting wedge to 4 feet for the winning birdie when Potgieter failed to make his 6-foot birdie putt. The victory sends Campbell to the Masters and PGA Championship and The Players Championship. He also gets into five $20 million signature events.

It turns out Venus Williams won't play at Indian Wells after the tournament announced she would

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) — It turns out 44-year-old Venus Williams will not be playing at the BNP Paribas Open. The tournament in Indian Wells, California, revealed on Sunday that Williams won't play, days after it announced she would be competing there as a wild card. It was an odd backtrack that came several hours after audio made the rounds on social media of Williams saying she would not be competing at the tournament in the Coachella Valley next month. Williams hasn't competed anywhere on tour since a first-round loss at the Miami Open in March 2024. That was less than two weeks after she lost her opening match at Indian Wells.

Alex Bregman hits a 2-run homer and gets 3 hits in his spring debut with the Boston Red Sox

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Alex Bregman hit a two-run homer as part of a three-hit day in his spring training debut with the Boston Red Sox, launching a drive over the left-field wall in the second inning against the Toronto Blue Jays. Bregman also had a single in the first inning and a double off the fence in the fourth. The two-time All-Star signed a $120 million, three-year deal with Boston this month after spending the first nine years of his career with the Houston Astros.

Biyendolo and Cooper score as United States beats Australia 2-1 in She Believes Cup

GLENDALE, Ariz (AP) — Lynn Biyendolo scored 42 seconds into the match and the United States beat Australia 2-1 on Sunday in the SheBelieves Cup. Michelle Cooper scored her first international goal in the 68th minute for the U.S., which improved to 2-0 in the four-team round-robin tournament. Biyendolo's goal was the fastest by a U.S. player since Ashley Hatch scored 24 seconds into a match in November 2021, also against Australia. Biyendolo, formerly Lynn Williams, was married in the offseason. It was her 22nd international goal. Michelle Heyman scored in the 80th minute for Australia.

The state wrestling championships will be held Feb. 28-March 1 at four different sites. Class 6A will be held in Overland Park, class 5A in Park City, class 4A in Salina and classes 3-1A will be in Hays.

HONOLULU, Hawaii --&nbsp;Wichita State was held to just one hit as Hawaii closed out the four-game series with a 7-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium. The combination of Liam O'Brien and Freddy Rodriguez blunted the Shockers attack, conceding just a two-out RBI single to&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/kam-durnin/9177" rel="smarttag" rev="9177" data-airgap-id="57">Kam Durnin</a></dfn>&nbsp;in the top of the sixth while striking out nine and walking just two. The Hawaii offense made the most of seven walks and five hit by pitches handed out by WSU to secure the series, three games to one. The Rainbow Warriors (7-1) continued their torrid two-out hitting, getting a two-run double with two outs in the third from Elijah Ickes and later putting the game away in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of run-scoring two-out hits from Jared Quandt and Kamana Nahaku. Kansas racked up 17 hits and eight runs across both games while committing just one error in 14 innings. A perfectly executed bunt set the table for the Jayhawks to capitalize. Senior&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/olivia-bruno/6949" rel="smarttag" rev="6949" data-airgap-id="83">Olivia Bruno</a></dfn>&nbsp;then delivered a sacrifice fly to deep left-center, bringing in another run and giving Kansas an early 2-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning.
<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/lizzy-ludwig/6881" rel="smarttag" rev="6881" data-airgap-id="84">Lizzy Ludwig</a></dfn>&nbsp;started for the Jayhawks and quickly recorded her first strikeout of the game. The defense followed suit, setting the tone with a 1-2-3 inning to get Kansas back to the plate in no time.
Both teams moved quickly through the second inning with efficient at-bats and solid defense. Kansas returned to the plate in the top of the third, where smart base running allowed Linduff to score on a passed ball, extending the Jayhawks' lead to 3-0.
Texas State got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, cutting into Kansas' lead. However, the Jayhawks' defense held strong, executing back-to-back outs&mdash;first by nabbing the lead runner, followed by an infield pop-up secured by&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/sara-roszak/6834" rel="smarttag" rev="6834" data-airgap-id="85">Sara Roszak</a></dfn>&nbsp;to end the inning and maintain the advantage.
In the fifth, Kansas continued to apply pressure on Texas State, consistently putting runners in scoring position.&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/hailey-cripe/6977" rel="smarttag" rev="6977" data-airgap-id="86">Hailey Cripe</a></dfn>&nbsp;stepped up and delivered a hard-hit ball to left field, driving in a run and extending the Jayhawks' lead to 4-1. The Bobcats added another run, cutting Kansas' lead to two. With no outs and a runner on third, the Jayhawks needed a strong defensive stand. Wichita State (17-10, 7-7) has now won six straight games, matching the longest of the&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/paul-mills/1241" rel="smarttag" rev="1241" data-airgap-id="56">Paul Mills</a></dfn>&nbsp;era. The six-game win streak is the longest since the Shockers won eight straight in 2021. Wichita State shot 66.7 percent (16-for-24) in the second half after a sub-40 percent first half to finish at 50 percent for the game. <dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/xavier-bell/9058" rel="smarttag" rev="9058" data-airgap-id="57">Xavier Bell</a></dfn>&nbsp;notched his second straight game with 20+ points and seventh of the season behind a game-high 23 points. After settling in, Tulane grabbed its first lead at the 7:55 mark behind a 7-0 spurt and nearly a 3:00 minute scoring drought for the Shockers. The lead would change sides six different times over the final 7:55 until Tulane captured it back with 1:56 remaining until halftime. The Green Wave had its largest lead of five with 41 seconds left until a&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/harlond-beverly/9059" rel="smarttag" rev="9059" data-airgap-id="62">Harlond Beverly</a></dfn>&nbsp;three-point play cut it to 31-29. &nbsp; Tulane would take that two-point lead into the locker room behind 46.7 percent shooting after a slow start to begin the game. Wichita State fired 14 three-pointers in the first half and converted only two of those. After dominating the glass each of the last five games, Tulane outrebounded Wichita State by two over the first 20 minutes. Behind a personal 8-0 run from Bell to open the second half, Wichita State jumped back on top, 37-31. Bell splashed in back-to-back triples and then dropped in a floater to give his team the lead back. That opening punch proved to be too much for Tulane as the lead would balloon to as many as 13 in the second half. The margin wouldn't shrink below five the rest of the game. Wichita State's first double digit lead came at the 15:02 mark only to see Tulane fight back to within 48-43. With 9:28 to go Wichita State extended the lead back to 10 on back-to-back Ballard scores at the rim. The two teams would essentially trade baskets over the next several minutes until the 2:36 mark when the lead reached 11. Free throws kept Tulane at bay in the final minute. Up Next Wichita State and UAB meet for the only time in the regular season Thursday night in Charles Koch Arena at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.</div>

🏀 Shockers reel off sixth straight win

"Our mindset was to treat this four-team tournament like a regional," said head coach&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/pete-hughes/2603" rel="smarttag" rev="2603">Pete Hughes</a></dfn>. "Proud of how our boys embraced that mindset." The Wildcats (4-4) announced their presence on a national scale, defeating three teams featured in the national polls &ndash; No. 5 Arkansas (D1Baseball), No. 25 Michigan (Baseball America), No. 22 TCU (D1Baseball) &ndash; in a three-game stretch. MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Jayden Quaintance scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and Shawn Phillips Jr. added 10 points and a career-best 11 rebounds on Sunday to help Arizona State beat Kansas State 66-54 and snap a six-game losing streak.

Quaintance, who went into the game 4 of 28 from behind the arc this season, made 2-of-4 3-pointers.

The Sun Devils (13-14, 4-12 Big 12) had lost 11 of their last 13.

Alston Mason hit a 3-pointer about 90 seconds into the game to give Arizona State the lead for good and sparked a 10-2 run that made it 12-6.

Dug McDaniel made a jumper that cut Kansas State's deficit to two points midway through the first half but ASU scored 15 of the next 20 points to make it 31-19 with 3:34 left before halftime.

The Sun Devils took a 34-28 lead into the intermission and scored 11 of the first 13 second-half points to make it 45-30 less than six minutes in and Kansas State (13-14, 7-9) trailed by at least nine the rest of the way.

David N’Guessan led the Wildcats with 20 points and 10 rebounds. McDaniel and Max Jones each scored four points on 4-of-23 shooting between them. The duo went into the game averaging a combined 23.3 points in conference play.

Kansas State, which has lost three in a row following a six-game win streak, shot a season-low 33% (22 of 66) from the field.

Amier Ali scored 11 points and Mason finished with eight assists and seven points for the Sun Devils.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — D.J. Dudley has had some big moments as a Blue Dragon, but none bigger than his basket in the final seconds of a 64-63 win over Butler on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons are now 17-10 overall, 13-8 in the Jayhawk Conference. Hutchinson moves in front of Butler for the No. 4 spot in the conference standings with three games to play.&nbsp;

With Butler (18-9, 13-8) in front 63-62, Hutchinson called a timeout with the ball in their frontcourt with 10 seconds to play. Bo Aldridge drove the ball into the lane and put up a shot with just over three seconds to play, Dudley crashed and used his right hand to tap it in with 1.5 seconds remaining.

Russell Branch tried a 70-foot desperation heave as time expired, but came up short, handing the Grizzlies their second loss to the Blue Dragons in the regular season.&nbsp;

Butler led 35-24 at halftime and led by as many as 14 with 4:13 to play in the first half.&nbsp;

Hutchinson held a few leads within the first four minutes of the game, and then would not hold another lead until Aldridge made a layup with 1:22 to play for a 62-60 lead. The Grizzlies would tie the game up with 1:08 to play.

Emeka Opurum, a 7-footer from Nigeria knocked down one of two free throw attempts with 15 seconds to play for the 63-62 lead.&nbsp;

Aldridge finished the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Blue Dragons. Bobby Cannon scored 14, DJ Dudley 11 and Khalil Arnold 10.&nbsp;

Butler was led by Opurum with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

Hutchinson will host Pratt on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Arena, while Butler will host Garden City at 7:30 p.m. in the Power Plant.

Bo Aldridge drove the ball into the lane and put up a shot with just over three seconds to play, Dudley crashed and used his right hand to tap it in with 1.5 seconds remaining.Russell Branch tried a 70-foot desperation heave as time expired, but came up short, handing the Grizzlies their second loss to the Blue Dragons in the regular season.&nbsp;Butler led 35-24 at halftime and led by as many as 14 with 4:13 to play in the first half.&nbsp;Hutchinson held a few leads within the first four minutes of the game, and then would not hold another lead until Aldridge made a layup with 1:22 to play for a 62-60 lead. The Grizzlies would tie the game up with 1:08 to play.Emeka Opurum, a 7-footer from Nigeria knocked down one of two free throw attempts with 15 seconds to play for the 63-62 lead.&nbsp;Aldridge finished the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Blue Dragons. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 8 Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team scored just five points in the fourth quarter, but did just enough defensively to defeat Butler, 54-49 on Saturday afternoon in the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons are now 24-3 overall, 18-3 in the Jayhawk Conference. HutchCC maintains second place in the conference standings with three games remaining.

Butler (20-6, 15-6) pulled within 41-40 with 2:59 to play in the third quarter, the closest the game had been since it was 8-6 in the first period.

Hutchinson responded with 11-0 run to go in front 52-40 with 9:10 to play in the fourth quarter. Butler scored the next nine points to pull within three with just under four minutes to go.

The Blue Dragons held the Grizzlies scoreless the final 3:47 of the game, while the lone Hutchinson basket came by Katie Duncan with 1:32 left. The Duncan bucket ended a 7:38 scoreless drought for Hutchinson.

Hailey Jackson led the way for Hutchinson with 13 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Jackson also finished with 12 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season and 12th of her career. Kahlen Norris scored 12, while Duncan finished with 10 points.

Keegan Yarick scored a game-high 14 points for the Grizzlies, which never held a lead in the game.

Hutchinson will host Pratt on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Arena, while Butler will host Garden City at 5:30 p.m. in the Power Plant.

The Jayhawks won game one by a score of 6-4 and game two by a 7-5 margin. The 6-0 start for the Jayhawks is the best since the 2014 season. &nbsp; KU led by one run heading into the ninth inning of both contests and added an insurance run in each game. The Jayhawks (18-9, 9-7 Big 12) used a well-rounded offensive attack and held the Cowboys to almost 30 points below their season average. They started the first half slowly before finally seizing control with a late run. They led by 29 at halftime and stretched it to as many as 39 points in the second half.

Besides Dickinson, Kansas got 15 points from David Coit and Zeke Mayo. Dajuan Harris Jr. had an excellent all-around game with 14 points, five assists and six steals.

Oklahoma State (13-14, 5-11) was led by Bryce Thompson with 21 points.

Oklahoma State: The Cowboys fell to 0-8 on the road in Big 12 play. They haven't won in Lawrence since 2018.

Kansas: The Jayhawks needed a blowout victory. They had lost on four consecutive Saturdays and had suffered back-to-back losses to Utah and BYU.

Kansas was holding a tenuous four-point lead at 23-19 with just under 9:00 left in the first half when Harris hit a 3-pointer. That started a 19-2 run that blew open the game. In that run, Harris twice found KJ Adams for alley-oop dunks that ignited the Kansas crowd.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawk basketball teams played their final home game of the season against a school that they have played more than any other opponent in school history. That school was Newton and on this night, it belonged to the Salthawks.

Hutchinson earned a sweep with the girls clobbering Newton 68-16, while the Salthawk boys had to rally in the final quarter to finally pull away from the stubborn Railers to win 58-51,

It was senior night as well as Champions night as Hutch High honored its six seniors, three from each team as well as senior team managers and cheer squad seniors. Also honored were the 2004 Hutch High Football State Champions and 2005 State Golf Champs at half time of the boys game. Charlie Pierce, head golf coach and Randy Dreiling, former head football coach at Hutch High introduced their respective teams from 20 years past.

The game was tied at 7-7 at one time early in the first quarter, but the Salthawk girls put the game away going on a 34-4 run to lead at the half 41-11.

Hutch looks like it might be peaking at the right time as senior leaders Grace Posh and Kaia Smith let the Salthawks with 16 points and 15 points respectively while the third senior Lily Rodriquez pushed the ball up the floor to keep pressure on the Railers added 7 points. Sophomore Tenley Keeton added nine and Kohlbie Craft chipped in six points.

Newton's Amaree Henderson was the lone bright spot for the Railers with 10 points.

Newton came in to the game with a 10-7 record showing why this was one of the better Newton teams in recent years and jumped out on the Salthawks to lead 19-11 at the end of the first quarter. Newton pushed the lead to double digits before the Salthawks rallied back in the second quarter to tie the game 28-28 at the half.

The third quarter was back and forth with nether team able to pull away as the Railers&nbsp; led going into the final quarter 43-42.

The Salthawks, with gutsy play from senior guard Terrell King finally pulled away in the final two minutes to earn a 58-51 win over the upstart Railers.

King led the Salthawks in scoring with 21 points including several key free throws in the final minutes of play. Free throws made for the Salthawks was a rarity as Hutchinson went 12 for 26 on the night.&nbsp;

Lamar Govain added nine points in the win after being injured by getting smacked in the nose accidently in the second quarter. Govain had to leave the game but did return in the second have to score two key baskets to help the Salthawks pull away.

Senior Levi Kepler had another solid game with 10 points and several rebounds in the win. Jalen Crable and Taishaun Govain added seven points each. Govain played well despite being under the weather the past several days.

Newton's Camden Smith led all scorers with 24 points including 18 in the first half. Cole Dillon added 11 and Maddox Williams scored eight in the second half to lead Newton in scoring.

The final week of the regular season will be a hard one for the Salthawks as they travel to Maize on Tuesday, Andover on Thursday and wind up the regular season with a make-up game at Salina South on Friday.

The Salina South game is a game that was postponed from both Jan. 11 and Feb. 19.

Sub-state seeding will be announced by the KSHSAA office on Saturday, March 1. The Salthawks are now 9-8 on the season while Newton falls to 10-8.

HONOLULU, Hawaii --&nbsp;Wichita State scored in four of the first five innings and never looked back, rolling past Hawaii 11-4 on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium. The victory ended Hawaii's 16-game home winning streak, the longest such streak in the nation. The Shockers (2-3) grabbed command of the contest with one run in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth, while starter&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/brady-hamilton/9179" rel="smarttag" rev="9179" data-airgap-id="56">Brady Hamilton</a></dfn>&nbsp;held the Rainbow Warriors (5-1) without a run for the first five frames as WSU built a 5-0 lead. <dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/kam-durnin/9177" rel="smarttag" rev="9177" data-airgap-id="57">Kam Durnin</a></dfn>&nbsp;got the scoring started with an RBI single in the second before&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/camden-johnson/9183" rel="smarttag" rev="9183" data-airgap-id="58">Camden Johnson</a></dfn>&nbsp;doubled the lead in the third inning with an RBI groundout. That was more than enough support for Hamilton (1-1), who set a new career high with eight strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work.
