The Sterling College Warriors women's basketball team will make the 652-mile one-way trip to McKenzie, Tenn. for the NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship First &amp; Second Round March 14-15.

The <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UI9955XYWuw%20">selection show</a> took place on Thursday evening.&nbsp;

The Warriors, who earned an automatic bid after winning the KCAC Tournament title Tuesday, will be the No. 16 seed in the Cramer Quadrant.&nbsp;Sterling will play the host, Bethel (Tenn.) on Friday, March 14. The game time is yet to be determined.

The winner of the Sterling-Bethel game will face the winner of Benedictine and LSU Alexandria (La.) in the Second Round on Saturday, March 15.

Sterling enters the national tournament with a 21-10 record and has won three consecutive games. Bethel (Tenn.) is 23-7 and has won four straight. The Wildcats defeated Campbellsville (Tenn.) in the&nbsp;Mid-South Conference on Tuesday.

The Milwaukee pitcher caught a soft line drive for the second out of the ninth inning and then attempted to throw the ball to first base for a double play, but he sailed the ball over the first baseman's head to allow&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/tj-williams/16134" rel="smarttag" rev="16134" data-airgap-id="70">TJ Williams</a></dfn>&nbsp;to score the game-winning run. &nbsp; Sophomore starting pitcher&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/cooper-moore/16136" rel="smarttag" rev="16136" data-airgap-id="71">Cooper Moore</a></dfn>&nbsp;tossed seven innings and allowed three runs, two of which were earned. Moore had a career-high seven strikeouts and allowed only one walk. His seven innings pitched were also a career high. The top Crusader finisher was senior Julian Morrison in 18th place. Morrison bowled a 212, 223 and 185 for his series total of 620.&nbsp;

🎳 Buhler boys finish 4th in 4-1A state championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Serena Sundell scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half to help No. 20 Kansas State beat UCF 80-65 on Thursday in the Big 12 Tournament.

Kansas State (26-6) equaled its win total from last season, with the 52 wins tied for the third-most over a two-season span in program history.

The Wildcats have advanced at least one round in 21 of the previous 28 Big 12 championships. Kansas State will play No. 4 seed and 16th-ranked West Virginia in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Wildcats lost 70-57 to the then-No. 17 Mountaineers on Feb. 17.

Sundell scored eight straight Kansas State points in the fourth quarter to help the Wildcats hold a double-digit lead for the final 6:54 of the game. Sundell was 5 of 6 from the field in the fourth to help K-State shoot 75%.

🏀 No. 20 K-State women open Big 12 Tournament with win over UCF

The Buhler High School girls bowling team placed 3rd at the KSHSAA class 4-1A state championship on Thursday at Bowlero-Northrock in Wichita.&nbsp;

Macy Miller was the highest placer for the Crusaders with a 6th place finish.&nbsp; The sophomore bowled a 533 series, 142 in the first game, followed by 217 and 174. Junior Aubrey Ewing placed 17th with a 494 series (157, 155, 182) and senior Brayla Johnson placed 19th with a 490 series (153, 144, 193).

The other Crusaders that did not medal were junior Cheyann Geesling (479), senior Eva Goertz (457), and junior Madalyn Bohringer (420). Geesling finished 25th, Goertz 30th and Bohringer 42nd.

Andale won the 4-1A state title with a 2786 series, Chanute finished 2nd bowling a 2707.

McPherson finished 8th as a team, led by senior Brooke Henry with a 495. Smoky Valley sophomore Kirah Taskinen placed 20th with a 489 series.

Junior Aubrey Ewing placed 17th with a 494 series (157, 155, 182) and senior Brayla Johnson placed 19th with a 490 series (153, 144, 193).The other Crusaders that did not medal were junior Cheyann Geesling (479), senior Eva Goertz (457), and junior Madalyn Bohringer (420). The Hutchinson Community College Athletic Department announced tickets for the Region VI Tournament second round games will go on sale Monday, March 10.

The Blue Dragon women will play at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Both opponents are to be determined, depending on how Saturday's first round games go.

The HutchCC women will play the winner of Cloud County and Colby, while the men will get either Butler or Pratt.

All season-ticket holders have the right to purchase their seats from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. on Monday.&nbsp;

All fans can purchase general admission or unsold reserved seats at those same times.

All seats not sold by 4 p.m. Tuesday are open to all fans for purchase when the gates open at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

HAYS, Kan. — The Hutchinson High Salthawks boys basketball team took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter of their sub-state opener Wednesday night, but Hays High responded with a 5-0 run to start the final period and pulled away late for a 48-43 victory, ending Hutchinson’s season.

Salthawks senior Terrell King led all scorers with 22 points, but late turnovers and missed opportunities proved costly for Hutchinson (10-11). Taishaun Govain, playing in his final high school game, finished with nine points. Jalen Crable and Lamar Govain each added four, while Levi Kepler and Tremell Walker chipped in with putback baskets.

Texas Tech (16-16) will move on to face No. 6 seed Utah in the second round on Thursday.

Kansas trailed by 11 points midway through the third quarter but used a 15-3 run to take a 46-45 lead with 5:14 remaining in the fourth. Brittany Harshaw hit two 3s and scored eight points during the stretch. Freelon scored the next four points and Maupin added a free throw to give Texas Tech a 51-46 lead with 1:05 to play.

Laia Conesa’s 3-pointer with 13 seconds left pulled the Jayhawks to 55-53 before Maupin added two more free throws to seal it. Freelon and Maupin combined for 13 of the Red Raiders’ 15 fourth-quarter points while Harshaw finished with eight of the Jayhawks’ 18 points.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday at the Sports Arena, falling to Dodge City 76-66.

The Blue Dragons closed the regular season with a 19-11 overall record and a 15-9 mark in the Jayhawk Conference.

Hutchinson earned the No. 4 seed in the Region VI Tournament and will receive a first-round bye. The Blue Dragons will play in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sports Arena, facing the winner of No. 5 Butler vs. No. 12 Pratt. Butler and Pratt will meet in El Dorado on Saturday.

Hutchinson trailed 40-27 at halftime but cut the deficit to two with under five minutes remaining. However, the Blue Dragons were unable to complete the comeback.

Dodge City (14-16, 11-13) won its fourth straight game, shooting 43% from the field and making seven 3-pointers.

Hutchinson struggled offensively, shooting 35% overall and hitting just 3 of 17 attempts from beyond the arc. Bo Aldridge led the Blue Dragons with a career-high 29 points, while DJ Dudley added 18 points and nine rebounds.

Jayse Boatwright paced Dodge City with 22 points. Mynor Strong contributed 19, and Derrick Rivers added 14.

The victory secured a share of the Jayhawk Conference title for the Blue Dragons, marking the 14th in program history.

Despite the win, Hutchinson (27-3, 21-3) lost the tiebreaker to Dodge City (26-4, 21-3), giving the Conquistadors the No. 1 seed in the Region VI Tournament. The Blue Dragons will enter as the No. 2 seed.

After an 18-18 tie at the end of the first quarter, Dodge City outscored Hutchinson by 10 in the second quarter to take a 38-28 halftime lead. Both teams scored 13 points in the third, giving the Conquistadors a 51-41 advantage heading into the fourth.

The Blue Dragons shot 50% from the field in their 21-point fourth-quarter rally. They trailed by as many as 12 early in the period before mounting their comeback.

Kahlen Norris hit back-to-back shots to tie the game at 60 with 44 seconds left. Dodge City briefly regained the lead with two free throws, but Brynne Katcher muscled in a contested layup with three seconds remaining to tie the game at 62. The Conquistadors had a final shot attempt, but it missed, sending the game to overtime.

Hutchinson controlled the extra period, outscoring Dodge City 13-5 after the Conquistadors scored the first basket. Landon Forbes led the Blue Dragons in overtime with seven points, while Hailey Jackson added six.

The Blue Dragons capitalized on Dodge City's 24 turnovers, converting them into 28 points, while committing just eight turnovers themselves.

Jackson led Hutchinson with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Forbes added 19 points, seven assists, and five steals, while Norris contributed 10 points and five boards.

Dodge City, which led for over 38 minutes of the game, was paced by Shorna Preston’s double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds. Layla-J Cameron also scored 16 points.

🏀 Hutch Post area sub-state scoreboard for March 5

CINCINNATI (AP) — David N'Guessan had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Dug McDaniel added 13 points, and Kansas State defeated Cincinnati 54-49 on Wednesday night.

N'Guessan scored eight points and McDaniel scored six in a key stretch of the second half in which K-State (15-15, 9-10 Big 12) outscored Cincinnati 14-8 to build a seven-point lead. The run culminated in a layup and a jumper by N'Guessan and a jumper from McDaniel to give the Wildcats a 52-45 lead with four minutes remaining.

The Wildcats cooled off and their next four possessions resulted in a turnover and three missed shots while two baskets by Jizzle James got Cincinnati within 52-49.

Kansas State finally scored again when Brendan Hausen made two free throws for a 54-49 lead with 22 seconds left. Cincinnati missed a 3-pointer, N'Guessan missed the front end of the bonus, and Cincinnati missed another 3-pointer as time ran out.

Cincinnati led by seven with 14 1/2 minutes left in the second half before Kansas State’s 8-0 run gave the Wildcats a 36-35 lead with 12 minutes remaining, their first lead since 4-2.

Day Day Thomas had 12 points and James 10 for Cincinnati (17-13, 7-12).

Kansas State has won back-to-back games for the first time since Feb. 8 and 11.

With one game left in the regular season, Kansas State is tied with West Virginia and TCU for eighth place. Cincinnati and UCF are tied for 12th.

🏀 N'Guessan, McDaniel power Kansas State to win over Cincinnati

The Hutchinson Community College softball team has announced that the Blue Dragons and the Butler Grizzlies will swap home dates.

Originally, the Blue Dragons were to have traveled to El Dorado to take on the Grizzlies on Wednesday. The inclement weather conditions in Kansas over the past few days forced the change to be made.

Now the Blue Dragons and Grizzlies play their first KJCCC doubleheader on Thursday at Fun Valley with games at 2 and 4 p.m.

The Blue Dragons were originally scheduled to play Butler at home on April 5. That doubleheader moves to East Park in El Dorado on Thursday, April 4. The game times will be released at a later date.

Blue Dragon head coach Jaime Rose also added a home game to be played on Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. against the Friends University JV.

In a Top 10 national battle, the No. 9-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team (26-3, 20-3 KJCCC) will take on the No. 7 Dodge City Conquistadors (26-3, 21-2 KJCCC) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena on Sophomore Recognition Night.

Dodge City holds a one-game lead over Hutchinson in the Jayhawk Conference standings. A Hutchinson victory means the Blue Dragons and Conquistadors share the conference title with a myriad of tie-breaking possibilities for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region 6 Tournament. The Conquistadors win the title outright with a win over the Dragons.
The Blue Dragons lost the first matchup with Dodge City 67-41 on January 18 in Dodge City. The Dragons were limited to a season-low 22.6 percent shooting with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/jackson_hailey_q6t6">Hailey Jackson</a>&nbsp;leading the way with 17 points. Shorna Preston had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Dodge City.
Jackson comes off a career-high 33-point performance in the Blue Dragons 58-50 win at Seward County on Saturday in Liberal. With her 16th point of the game, Jackson became the seventh Blue Dragon player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
Jackson is seventh on the career scoring list with 1,018 points. She is four points away from joining the Blue Dragon single-season Top 10 list, now with 540 points this season.
Dodge City enters the game on a five-game winning streak by an average winning margin of 37.4 points. The Conquistadors defeated Coffeyville 74-50 on Saturday.

Riding a three-game winning streak, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team gets set to close out the regular season of the 2024-25 season with a home game and Sophomore Recognition Night.

Hutchinson's 57-54 win on Saturday at Seward County, combined with Cloud County's upset win over Butler, helped the Blue Dragons secure one of the four opening-round byes for the upcoming Region VI Tournament. The Blue Dragons will play on Tuesday, March 11 in the second round of the Region 6 Tournament.
The Blue Dragons have been exceptional defensively in their three-game win streak. The Dragons are allowing only 58.6 points per game and opposing teams are shooting only 37.6 percent.
Over his last two games, freshman Bo Aldridge has averaged 23.0 points and 8.5 rebounds to lead Hutchinson in scoring.
Dodge City, winners of three-straight games and 7 of the last 10, is tied for eighth place in the KJCCC with a shot at being a host team in the first round that begins on Saturday.
The Blue Dragons steamrolled nationally ranked Coffeyville 92-77 on Saturday at Dodge City. The Conquistadors had five players in double figures led by Mynor Strong's 23 points against the Red Ravens.

🏀 Blue Dragons close out regular season with Dodge City

The Kansas City Chiefs are trading two-time All-Pro guard Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears for a 2026 fourth-round pick, according to ESPN's Ian Rapoport.

Thuney was selected as a first-team All-Pro for the second straight year, while also being selected to his third straight Pro Bowl.

The 32-year-old is due $16 million this season, the last year of a five-year, $80 million contract he signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in 2021.

Four Hutchinson Community College pitchers combined to toss a pair of shutouts as the No. 21-ranked Blue Dragons swept a doubleheader from the Hesston Larks on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field. The Blue Dragons completed a four-game season sweep of the Larks, winning 11-0 and 10-0, both games went five innings.
Hutchinson is now 13-2 entering the 2025 Jayhawk West opener on Thursday at Dodge City. Hesston fell to 2-12.
GAME 1 RECAP &ndash; Hutchinson 11, Hesston 0 (5 innings) Freshman pitchers&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/jones_brooks_2er1">Brooks Jones</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/doll_a.j._fguu">A.J. ⚾ No. 21 Blue Dragons toss pair of shutouts at Larks

Hutchinson Community College freshman catcher/designated hitter&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mazza_antony_9347">Anthony Mazza</a>&nbsp;continued his torrid start to the season and was named the Jayhawk West Division I Baseball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Mazza, a freshman from Prairie Village, Kansas, recorded hits in all eight games Hutchinson played last week in going 6-2.

For the week, Mazza hit .567 (17 for 30) with five doubles, a home run, seven RBIs, and 13 runs scored. He now has a 13-game hitting streak to start the season.

Mazza had six multi-hit games, including a trio of three-hit games against Highland and Coffeyville (twice).

Mazza hit a walk-off extra-inning home run in the Blue Dragons' 4-3 win over Des Moines Area last Monday and was three-for-three with four RBIs in a 15-5 win over Coffeyville. Mazza is third in the nation in hitting with a .609 batting average.
