Haliburton was hurt as he blocked a shot late in the first half.

Davide Moretti and Jahmi'us Ramsey each had 17 points as the No. 24 Red Raiders beat turnover-plagued TCU 88-42 on Monday night. It was their biggest margin of victory ever in a Big 12 game. Five players scored in double figures and Texas Tech made a season-high 13 3-pointers while shooting 60 percent overall. TCU had six turnovers in less than 3 1/2 minutes to start the game and fell behind 11-2. The only player in double figures for the Frogs was Jaire Grayer with 10 pointers.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The NCAA is stepping up its lobbying efforts as Congress considers allowing endorsement money for college athletes. Federal disclosure forms reviewed by The Associated Press show the NCAA and its allies spent at least $750,000 to lobby Congress last year. The NCAA has said it will allow athletes to “benefit from the use of their name, image and likeness," but only with restrictions. It argues that letting players sign unlimited endorsement deals could corrupt recruiting and destroy competitive balance. Advocates for greater freedoms for players say they're concerned the deep-pocketed NCAA has too much influence in Washington.

COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers say Philip Rivers will enter free agency and not return for the upcoming season, ending his 16-year run with the franchise. The fourth player taken in the 2004 NFL draft owns 30 franchise records and has thrown for over 4,000 yards in 11 of his last 12 seasons. Rivers has completed 64.7% of his passes for 59,271 yards, 397 touchdowns and 198 interceptions.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have avoided salary arbitration with Nick Ahmed by working out a four-year, $32.5 million contract with the two-time Gold Glove shortstop. Ahmed hit a career-high .254 last season with 19 homers and 82 RBIs in 158 games. He won his Gold Gloves in each of the past two seasons.

(AP) — Los Angeles Angels general manager Billy Eppler has confirmed he won't be making a widely reported trade with the Dodgers, although he didn't specify the deal or the players involved. Multiple media outlets reported the Angels nearly acquired Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson and right-hander Ross Stripling last week in a deal that would have sent infielder Luis Rengifo to the Dodgers. The deal apparently fell apart as a side effect of the Dodgers' lengthy attempts to get outfielder Mookie Betts from the Boston Red Sox in a blockbuster trade.

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team won consecutive games for the first time in 26 days and moved into a tie for third place in the Jayhawk West on Monday night at the Sports Arena.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2019-20/bios/brown_tyler_348p">Tyler Brown</a>&nbsp;scored a game-high 23 points to pace the Blue Dragons to a key 75-51 Jayhawk West victory over the Pratt Beavers. Hutchinson and Pratt split the season series.

The victory moves Hutchinson, 19-7 overall, into a tie for third place with Pratt with four games remaining in the regular season at 10-7. Seward County also won Monday to remain two games behind both the Blue Dragons and Beavers. Pratt falls to 16-10 overall. The Blue Dragons travel to Dodge City for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff Wednesday.

Brown knocked down 5 of 8 3-point goals to spark the Blue Dragons. Brown had two 3-pointers and one three-point play in an early 15-6 run that helped Hutchinson to an early 23-9 lead with 9:24 remaining in the first half.

Brown then scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half to help extend a 39-24 Blue Dragon halftime lead. He had three 3-pointers in the second half and his second three-point play gave the Dragons a 58-33 lead with 11:46 remaining.

The Blue Dragon guard from Derby surpassed the career 500-point plateau by hitting 8 of 12 shots overall and going 2 of 2 from the free-throw line. He added five rebounds and four assists.

Three other Blue Dragons scored in double figures on Monday.

The Blue Dragons shot 41.9 percent for the game (26 of 62, hitting 9 of 25 from 3-point range and 14 of 15 from the free-throw line.

The Dragons totally turned the tables on Pratt in the rebounding department. In Hutchinson's 94-91 double-overtime loss to the Beavers in January, Pratt out-rebounded the Dragons 57-41 and had 29 offensive rebounds. Monday night the Blue Dragons out-rebounded the Beavers 44-36 and allowed only 10 offensive rebounds.

Jamel Horton led the Beavers with 23 points, hitting 4 of 6 from distance. Tommy Thomas as the only other Pratt player in double figures with 10 points.

Hutchinson held Pratt 30 points under its 81-point season-scoring average. The Beavers shot 19 of 62 (30.6 percent, going 6 of 27 from 3-point range and 7 of 9 from the free-throw line.

Brown's 23 paces Dragons to victory over Pratt

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/bios/ogle_abby_pu1h">Abby Ogle</a>&nbsp;had a huge 27-point effort in a milestone victory Monday night for the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team.

No. 6-ranked Hutchinson extended its winning streak to 10 games after a 75-41 Jayhawk West victory over the Pratt Beavers at the Sports Arena.

The victory was the 1,000th in the 46-year history of Blue Dragon women's basketball. Hutchinson reached the magical 1K in 1,383 games. The program started in the 1974-75 season.

The Blue Dragons improve to 24-2 overall and 16-1 in the Jayhawk West heading into Wednesday's road contest at Dodge City. Pratt falls to 14-12 and 8-9 in league play.

The start down the road to the milestone was a slow one for the Blue Dragons, playing a Pratt team riding an emotional high of snapping a 54-game losing streak to Seward County on Saturday night.

Only Ogle and Brooklyn Bethem scored in a first quarter that ended in a 16-16 tie. Starting with the final basket of the first quarter, the Blue Dragons used a 12-0 run to lead 28-18 after two Betham free throws with 6:54 to play in the second quarter. The Beavers scored five unanswered to pull within five, but the Blue Dragons finished the second period with eight unanswered points. The Dragons held Pratt to 2 of 12 shooting in the second and led 36-23 at halftime.

Hutchinson outscored Pratt 59-25 in the final three quarters.

Ogle knocked down three 3-pointers and led Blue Dragons with 17 first-half points. Ogle posted her fifth 20-point game of the season with a game-high 27 points on 9 of 13 shooting, 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Ogle added seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Ogle became only the second Blue Dragon in team history to reach 200 career steals (201) and the sixth Blue Dragon to reach 100 steals in a season (102).

Hutchinson shot 26 of 56 overall shots (46.4 percent, going 12 of 29 from 3-point range and 11 of 16 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/bios/mapusua_lauryn_0xtt">Lauryn Mapusua</a>&nbsp;finished with 12 points on a career-high four 3-pointer. She added seven rebounds and three assists. Freshman&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/bios/alford_tor-e_vqep">Tor'e Alford</a>&nbsp;had four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Betham had seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/bios/cooper_gelecia_mxl6">Gelecia Cooper</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/bios/francis_sasha_nod4">Sasha Francis</a>&nbsp;has six points each.

The Blue Dragons had 23 assists on 26 made field goals. Francis had a career-high and game-high nine assists. The Dragons outrebounded Pratt 41-39.

No Pratt player scored in double figures. Rachel Tippens had nine points and Tytiana Haamid had seven.

Holding Pratt to 24.2 percent in the first game on January 18 in Pratt, the Blue Dragons' No. 4 nationally ranked defense did even better against Pratt on Monday. Pratt shot only 22 percent (13 of 59, behind held to just 7 of 41 shooting in the final three quarters. The Beavers were 4 of 28 from 3-point range and 11 of 16 from the foul line. Pratt committed 16 turnovers.

Kansas remains 3rd in AP Poll

WARRENSBURG, MO. – The No. 10-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s track and field team earned three more national indoor championship qualifiers and Andrew Kibet broke his fourth team record of the indoor season on Saturday at the Central Missouri State Mule Relays.

Kibet won the Mule Relay 1,000 meters on Saturday with a school-record time of 2:26.35. That time broke the 1997 record of Francious Strydom (2:31.47). Kibet also qualified for his fourth individual event with a converted time of 2:24.36, the fastest in the nation this season.

Kibet now owns the 600, 800, 1,000 and Mile run Blue Dragon indoor records, as well as the outdoor 800 and the cross country 8K record.

Blue Dragon distance runners garnered two more national qualifying times on Saturday.

Freshman Teagan Flanagan finished second in the 5,000 meters with a national qualifying time of 15:28.54. That time is the fourth-fastest in Blue Dragon indoor history.

Sophomore Sylvestre Kibarar won the mile run with a national qualifying time of 4:26.75. He is the third Blue Dragon to qualify in the Mile.

Jared Scott had the other Blue Dragon event win on Saturday. Already qualified for nationals in the 60 meters, Scott won the Mule Relays with a time of 6.84 seconds. He posted the fourth-fastest qualifying time of 6.99 seconds.

Sophomore Brett Hillabrand was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:04.97, the ninth-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history. Hillabrand also has a personal record in the 800 with a Mule Relay runner-up time of 2:01.71.

Three other personal records were posted at the Mule Relays by Blue Dragon athletes.

Jordan Hawkins ran 23.61 for a PR in the 200 meters. He finished 10th overall.

Andrew Holt was ninth in the 800 with a career-best time of 2:07.97.

Devin Marx had a PR in the shot put with a top effort of 39-10.50.

The Blue Dragons now have 13 national qualifiers for the NJCAA Indoor Championships in March in Lynchburg, Virginia. Hutchinson will nest compete at the Central Oklahoma Alumni Classic next Saturday in Norman, Oklahoma.

The Big 12 Conference has announced Oklahoma City and Arlington as 
future sites for the Big 12 Baseball Championship. Oklahoma City’s 
Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark will host the tournament in 2021. 
Arlington’s new Globe Life Field will welcome the championship to Texas 
for the first time in 18 years in 2022 and also host the event in 2023 
and 2024.


“Oklahoma City and Arlington have a successful history of hosting Big 12
 championships,” said Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “We are pleased 
to continue our longstanding relationship with Oklahoma City in hosting 
our baseball championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark and also look 
forward to playing in the new home of the Texas Rangers at Globe Life 
Field.”

The Big 12 has played 20 of its 23 baseball championships in Oklahoma

Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark has been recognized as being one of the 
best facilities in Minor League Baseball by several national 
publications, including Baseball America and the USA Today Travel Media 
Group. The Oklahoma City Dodgers franchise has been a member of the 
Triple-A Pacific Coast League since 1998. In 2018, the team was named 
the Triple-A winner of the Bob Freitas Award presented by Baseball 
America for excellence in minor league operations.


The new home of the Texas Rangers, the state-of-the-art Globe Life Field
 will open this March. The 1.8 million square foot facility will include
 a 5.5 acre retractable roof for climate control and shelter for fans 
during the hot summer months. With a capacity of approximately 40,300 
and a seating bowl that will bring fans closer to the action, Globe Life
 Field will also serve as a premier multipurpose venue that will include
 capabilities for hosting numerous sports and entertainment events year 
round.


Big 12 baseball is steep with history including a combined 118 regional 
appearances, 42 super regionals, 26 College World Series berths and a 
pair of National Champions. Since 1997, 1,077 student-athletes have been
 taken in the annual Major League Baseball Draft. Forty-three Big 12 
standouts have been selected in the first round, including four players 
picked in the top-11 of the 2019 MLB Draft.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Nick Taylor knew the odds were not in his favor Sunday at Pebble Beach.

Already nervous about facing Phil Mickelson for the first time with only a one-shot lead, Taylor found himself watching Lefty’s short-game highlight show on the eve of their final-round pairing at the AT&amp;T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

“I was just curious, to be honest. And he hit some amazing shots,” Taylor said. “I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t know if he can keep that up. If he can, great.’ But if I keep doing what I’m doing, plugging along ... then try to make the guys behind me try to beat me.”

Taylor created his own short-game highlights for a victory that will stay with him a long time.

<a href="https://twitter.com/PGATOUR/status/1226593110756597761" target="_blank">He holed a bunker shot</a>&nbsp;for eagle that carried him to a five-shot lead at the turn. And when that lead shrunk to two shots in 40 mph gusts, Taylor chipped in for a birdie on the 15th hole that all but sealed it.

Turns out Taylor had more trouble with the wind than Mickelson, and the Canadian managed both just fine. He never lost the lead and closed with a 2-under 70 for a four-shot victory over Kevin Streelman.

Mickelson, going for a record sixth time at he Pebble Beach Pro-Am, faded to third with a 74.

“It’s disappointing certainly to have not won, but I got outplayed,” Mickelson said. “I mean, Nick played better than I did. He holed a couple of great shots. That eagle on 6, the putts he made on 4, 5 and 7 ... he just really played some great golf.”

The rewards were more than Taylor could digest.

He won in his fourth start as a PGA Tour rookie at the 2015 Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi, at the time an opposite-field event that didn’t feature any of the top players. He went 146 starts on the PGA Tour until his next victory, and it was a big one.

“That was amazing,” Taylor said. “I believed I could do it because I’ve done it before. But to do it in that fashion, playing with Phil, gives me a lot of confidence going forward.”

The victory gets him into the Masters for the first time, along with the PGA Championship up the coast at Harding Park in May. In his sixth year on tour, the 31-year-old Canadian has played only two majors as a pro.

One of those was last summer at Pebble Beach, after which Taylor announced he and his wife, Andie, were expecting their first child. They were waiting for him beyond the 18th green at Pebble.

“You couldn’t write it much better,” Taylor said.

The final chapter was more than five hours of jumbled emotions. Taylor figured he would have been more nervous with a larger lead at the start, and then he had one in the middle. He regained the lead with a 15-foot birdie on No. 4, matched birdies with Mickelson on the par-3 fifth, holed the bunker shot on the par-5 sixth to seize control and made a 7-foot birdie on No. 9 to head to the back nine with a five-shot lead.

Mickelson contributed to Taylor’s advantage, going long over the eighth green and chipping so strong that it caught the slope and rolled back to the fairway, leading to double bogey. He made bogey on No. 9, a two-shot swing.

And then the wind arrived, so strong that it was hard work to make bogey. Mickelson chipped away with a birdie at No. 10 and two pars, and he picked up another shot with a bogey on the par-5 14th, where the wind was so strong it blew Taylor’s cap off his head as he faced 227 yards to the green — for his third shot.

Taylor made double bogey. The lead was two with four holes to play.

“I had to remind myself I still had the lead, I knew I was swinging it well and just needed to hit that fairway,” Taylor said.

He came up short of the green, but had a simple chip that turned out perfectly and dropped for birdie. His final act was an 8-iron to 6 feet for birdie on the 17th.

Taylor finished at 19-under 268 and earned a two-year exemption, valuable for a guy who has been fighting to keep his card the last few years.

Mickelson wasn’t the only player who struggled. Dustin Johnson shot a 78. Matt Every, in the third-to-last group, shot 80. Jason Day closed with a 75.

The best round and best finish belonged to Jordan Spieth, who chipped in to save par on his final hole for a 67. It was the low round of the day and enabled Spieth to finish in a tie for ninth. That narrowly moves him back into the top 50 and makes him eligible for a World Golf Championship in Mexico City in two weeks.

Streelman also leaves with a trophy. He teamed with Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald to easily win the pro-am for the second time in three years.

Taylor handles the wind, Mickelson to win at Pebble Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The first race of the NASCAR season was a demolition derby that turned Daytona International Speedway into a giant junkyard.

The Busch Clash? More like the Busch Crash.

Erik Jones won Sunday’s race that left a multi-million dollar trail of destruction and masked the fact the Clash was a made-for-TV exhibition race. Only 18 cars were entered and only six were on track when the checkered flag flew at the end of a third overtime.

Jones crossed the finish line in a Toyota with a crumpled hood after a huge push from Joe Gibbs Racing teammate and defending Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin.

“I’ve got to give a huge thanks to Denny there ... he stuck with us there that whole last lap,” Jones said. “It wasn’t the fastest car I don’t think left in the race, but we brought it home. I owe him one for that one, for sure.”

Hamlin was a lap down after a blown tire on the previous overtime attempt caused him to crash half the cars remaining on track, but he had enough speed to push Jones along the outside and give Gibbs yet another win. The Gibbs organization won 19 races last year, went 1-2-3 in the Daytona 500 and won the Cup Series title.

Joe Gibbs is now the all-time winningest owner in Busch Clash history with nine victories.

Brad Keselowski was among those incensed by the aggressive late blocking. The race was fairly anti-climactic until two wrecks in the final nine laps sent it into overtime, and as Keselowski railed against the racing that ended his day, Hamlin got a flat tire as the leader on a restart and collected most of the cars on track.

“Dumb, dumb racing,” said Keselowski, who slapped the side of an ambulance with both hands in frustration. “We shouldn’t be wrecking all these cars. You’d think these guys would be smarter than that. It’s the same thing over and over, somebody throws a stupid block that’s never going to work and wrecks half the field.

“I don’t know. Maybe we need to take the helmets out of these cars and the seat belts out. Somebody will get hurt, and then we’ll stop driving like (expletive).”

Kyle Busch, collected in the accident that ended Keselowski’s day when teammate Joey Logano tried to block Busch, said the crashes are a product of superspeedway racing.

“Either you can race or you can wreck,” Busch said. “The reason why we ride in single file (early in the race) is because we don’t know how to race. Just a product of a few bad decisions there and we’re all crashed.”

The cars raced in Sunday’s exhibition event are backups for the Feb. 16 season-opening Daytona 500.

The 75-lap event ended up going 88 laps because of the late crashes, making it the longest in history.

Austin Dillon was second in the new Chevrolet Camaro and followed by Clint Bowyer in a Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing. Kyle Larson was fourth for Chip Ganassi Racing and Ryan Newman, in a Roush Fenway Racing Ford, was fifth and the last car on the lead lap.

Hamlin in sixth had the only other car running at the end and ended up being a solid teammate.

“It’s so awesome,” Hamlin said. “I knew he needed to strap in because, that last lap, I was going to push him. I didn’t care if I was going to push him into a wreck. I was just going to push him. It was fun.”

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2019-20/bios/loney_sadie_l8ko">Sadie Loney</a>&nbsp;was impressive in her debut, allowing just one run on four hits over four innings to earn her first victory as the Blue Dragons roared out of the 2020 season gate with a 19-1 victory in the first game on Sunday.

The Blue Dragons (2-0) will return to Wichita on Tuesday for a doubleheader against the Friends University Junior Varsity before heading to Fort Worth, Texas and the Cowtown Classic next weekend.

GAME 2 RECAPGalliher retired all 15 batters she faced. She started her career with back-to-back strikeouts in the first inning. Over the next 10 batters, Galliher had three groundouts and only one of three fly-ball outs left the infield. Loney retired the Red Devils in order in the second and third innings before giving up a leadoff home run to Riley Zook in the fourth.

Loney threw 59 pitches in four innings and allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out five and walking none. Rollin worked the fifth inning and struck out the side to end the game.

Galliher perfect game highlights opening-day sweep



HOUSTON , Texas–&nbsp;Not much went right for Wichita State in a 76-43 loss at No. 25/25 Houston on Sunday afternoon at the Fertitta Center.

<a href="https://goshockers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4212">Dexter Dennis</a>&nbsp;scored 10 points and collected six rebounds for the Shockers (17-6, 5-5 American) who suffered their most-lopsided defeat (33 points) since 2003.

<a href="https://goshockers.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=4213">Jaime Echenique</a>&nbsp;grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to go with seven points, three steals and a block.

Quentin Grimes scored 14 points to lead a group of five double-digit scorers for Houston (19-5, 9-2, which took over sole possession of first-place after losses by co-leaders Tulsa and Cincinnati earlier in the day.

He was joined by DeJon Jarreau (12 points, seven rebounds, Marcus Sasser (11 points, Caleb Mills (11 points) and Nate Hinton (10 points, nine rebounds).

Wichita State missed 17 of its first 21 shots. Houston capitalized with runs of 16-2 and 9-0 to build a 38-18 halftime lead. It was the Shockers first 20-point halftime deficit in more than a dozen years.

Houston turned WSU's 10 first-half turnovers into 14 points.

The Shockers committed just two more turnovers in the second half but never found their shooting touch.

WSU made just two three-point field goals on 24 attempts and finished the game at 26.4 percent from the field.

Houston – which entered the day ranked second nationally in rebound margin – won the battle of the boards 44-30. The hosts shot an even 50 percent from the field.

The Shockers' four assists tied a Marshall Era low. WSU had four in a 70-69 neutral court win over LSU on Dec. 18, 2010.

The loss was WSU's fifth in seven games on the heels of a 15-1 start.

Houston won its fifth-straight in the series and narrowed the Shockers' all-time lead to 17-14. WSU is 3-10 all-time in Houston (0-2 at the Fertitta Center).

WSU ends the weekend alone in sixth-place in the AAC race – a game back of SMU and Memphis, which are both 6-4.

The Shockers go back out on the road Thursday against the UCF Knights (13-10, 4-7). The 6 p.m. CT tip airs nationally on ESPN2. WSU won the first meeting between the teams on Jan. 25 in Wichita, 87-79.

HUTCHINSON, Kan - The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team shot better than 50 percent in a game for the 14th time this season and earned a crucial Jayhawk West victory on Saturday afternoon.

Five players scored in double figures and all 12 Blue Dragons suited up scored points as Hutchinson defeated Garden City 82-68 at the Sports Arena. The Blue Dragons were playing their first Saturday matinee at the Sports Arena since 2008.

Hutchinson improves to 18-7 overall and 9-7 in the Jayhawk West and earned a 2020 series sweep over the Broncbusters. The Blue Dragons strengthened their hold on fourth place in the Jayhawk West. Pratt defeated Seward County on Saturday and Hutch now has a two-game lead over fifth-place Seward County with five games to play in the regular season.

The Blue Dragons play host to Pratt at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons shot 55.2 percent for the game (20 of 34) from the field. Hutch had a season-low one 3-point goal on just nine attempts and hit 17 of 29 from the free-throw line. The Dragons owned a 41-31 rebounding advantage and dished out 16 assists.

Garden City's Tahlik Chavez, the Jayhawk Conference's leading scorer, became the third opponent to score 30 points against the Blue Dragons, going for 31 points on 9 of 18 shooting with 6 of 13 from 3-poin range. Those six treys tie an individual opponent high against the Dragons this season.

The Blue Dragons hit 12 of their first 17 shot attempts and rolled to a 103-61 victory over the Broncbusters for Hutchinson's ninth-consecutive victory.

The Blue Dragons improve to 23-2 overall and take over sole possession of first place in the Jayhawk West with a 16-1 record. Seward County was upset at Pratt on Saturday. Pratt comes to the Sports Arena on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
