MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;&ndash; The Kansas State men's basketball team has been selected to play in the 2025 Hall of Fame Classic, which is set for Thursday, Nov. 20 and Friday, Nov. 21 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. The Wildcats will be joined in the field by NCAA Tournament participants Mississippi State and New Mexico and recent College Basketball Crown winner Nebraska. This year's Hall of Fame Classic will mark the event's 25th&nbsp;year of operation in Kansas City and will return to its traditional two-day, four-team bracketed format beginning on Thursday, Nov. 20 with the championship and third-place games set for Friday, Nov. 21. A complete bracket, along with ticket information, television details and game times, for the four-team tournament will be announced later. K-State will be making its fourth appearance in the Hall of Fame Classic and the first since 2021. The Wildcats finished as the tournament runner-up in their first two visits, defeating No. 18 Gonzaga before losing to top-ranked Duke in 2010 and defeating Missouri before losing to No. 9 North Carolina in 2015. The team lost to No. 13 Arkansas and No. 14 Illinois in their most recent appearance in 2021. Nebraska will be making its second appearance and first since 2018, while Mississippi State and New Mexico will be competing in the tournament for the first time. K-State leads the all-time series with all three potential opponents, including 3-1 with Mississippi State, 4-2 with New Mexico and 128-94 with Nebraska. The Wildcats last met the Bulldogs in 2019, the Lobos in 2006 and Cornhuskers in 2023. Possible tournament opponents:

<li>Mississippi State (21-13) earned its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, along with its third straight 20-win season, under head coach&nbsp;Chris Jans&nbsp;in 2024-25. The Bulldogs finished in a four-way tie for ninth with Arkansas, Georgia and Vanderbilt in the SEC with an 8-10 mark. &nbsp;</li>
<li>Nebraska (21-14) won 20 or more games for the second straight season under head coach&nbsp;Fred Hoiberg, defeating Arizona State, Georgetown, Boise State and UCF to claim the inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament championship. The Huskers finished 7-13 in Big Ten play. &nbsp;</li>
<li>New Mexico (27-8) won the Mountain West regular-season championship with a 17-3 record and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. The Lobos will be led by first-year head coach&nbsp;Eric Olen, who guided UC San Diego to a Big West regular-season and tournament titles and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2025.</li>

 The Hall of Fame Classic was created by the Kansas City-based National Association of Basketball Classic (NABC) in 2001 as the Guardians Classic and was later known as the CBE Classic and CBE Hall of Fame Classic before being rebranded as the Hall of Fame Classic in 2017. Last season, the Hall of Fame Classic was a single day competition with Utah State defeating Iowa, 77-69, and Wichita State defeating Saint Louis, 88-63. DODGE CITY &ndash; The final week of the 2025 regular season started with a Jayhawk Conference doubleheader split with Dodge City on Wednesday.

<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/tomlinson_morgan_0v0v">Morgan Tomlinson</a>&nbsp;earned her 35th career pitching victory and broke a tie for fourth place with Elise Beguelin (2010-11) on the Blue Dragon career wins list. Tomlinson (19-4) worked seven innings in two appearances in the game to lead the Dragon in the circle.
Tomlinson allowed seven hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts and no walks. After giving up a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, Tomlinson left the game, but returned two batters later with the bases loaded and no out. She retired the final three batters she faced to finish off the victory.
Leading 3-2 after four innings, the Blue Dragons got two insurance runs in the sixth when Dice tripled down the right-field line to score&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/kruger_haley_h3bo">Haley Kruger</a>. Dice then scored on a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/kruger_kaibryn_wwcp">Kaibryn Kruger</a>&nbsp;RBI groundout for a 5-2 lead.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2024-25/bios/backhaus_brooke_ngsp">Brooke Backhaus</a>&nbsp;homered with one out in the seventh for a four-run lead.
GAME 2 RECAP &ndash; Dodge City 6, Hutchinson 3 Dodge City led 3-0 after two innings and 5-1 after three innings to earn its first victory over Hutchinson since the 2019 Region 6 Tournament (18 games).
The Blue Dragons out-hit Dodge City 12-10, but left 10 runners on base. Dodge City also had three leadoff homeruns in the seven, third and sixth innings.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The game between the Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Royals scheduled for Wednesday was postponed due to rain.

After a delay of more than two hours prior to first pitch, the game was moved to Thursday, to be played as part of a traditional doubleheader, beginning at 1:10 p.m. local time.

The probable starters for the Rockies are RHP Germán Márquez (0-3, 8.27 ERA) and RHP Chase Dollander (1-2, 7.36), and RHP Michael Lorenzen (1-3, 4.57) and LHP Cole Ragans (1-1, 3.58) are the probable starters for the Royals.

 HUTCHINSON, Kan.— The Campus Colts held off a dramatic late rally to edge the Hutchinson Salthawks 7-6 in the opener of Wednesday’s doubleheader before completing the sweep with a 4-0 shutout in Game 2 at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Salthawks (8-7) nearly stole the opener in the bottom of the seventh, putting the tying run on third and the winning run on second. But Campus reliever Ryan McWilliams caught Brodie McCuan looking at strike three to seal the win and leave the Hutchinson dugout in disbelief.

Hutchinson struck first with a pair of runs in the opening frame, but Campus responded with one in the second and broke the game open with a six-run outburst in the third. The Salthawks chipped away, but the early damage proved too much.

Game two was a different story, as Campus starter Harken Warkins delivered a dominant performance on the mound. Warkins carried a no-hitter into the fifth before Salthawk third baseman Ju Ju Lyons broke it up with a single up the middle. Caden Beavers added another hit later in the game, but Hutchinson couldn’t string anything together offensively.

The Colts backed Warkins with timely hitting to cruise to a 4-0 victory and a sweep of the twin bill.

Hutchinson (8-7) will look to rebound Friday, April 25, when they travel to Salina to face the Salina South Cougars at Dean Evans Stadium.

WICHITA, Kan. (April 23, 2025)&mdash;The Wichita Wind Surge overcame the Springfield Cardinals 7-6 in 10 innings at Equity Bank Park. Down 6-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Wichita rattled off five unanswered runs to win their fourth straight game.
The Cardinals were held to two hits through the opening three innings against&nbsp;<a href="https://www.milb.com/player/christian-macleod-681306">Christian MacLeod</a>, who made his season debut as a starter with the Wind Surge. Springfield later strung together four hits in a five at-bat span in the top of the fourth to plate three runs.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;&ndash; Following one of the best regular seasons in program history, the Kansas State women's golf team earned a postseason bid for the first time since 2017 and the sixth time overall as the Wildcats were selected as the No. 5 seed in the 2025 NCAA Lexington Regional, the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Selection Committee announced Wednesday during&nbsp;Golf Central&nbsp;on GOLF Channel. K-State will compete at Keene Trace Golf Club, May 5-7, against a field of 12 teams, including No. 1 seed and ACC Champion Florida State, No. 2 seed USC, No. 3 seed TCU and No. 4 seed Vanderbilt. The top five teams in the regional and low individual not on an advancing team will advance to the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, which will be held May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California. "We are delighted to be selected for the NCAA Lexington Regional," head coach&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-golf/roster/coaches/stew-burke/2590" rel="smarttag" rev="2590">Stew Burke</a></dfn>&nbsp;said. "The girls deserve this moment today for all the hard work they've put in since last season ended. There are excellent teams in this regional and one that will be very competitive. We are excited to get to work to prepare for the postseason." The Wildcats, ranked No. 28 in the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings, currently hold a school-record team scoring average of 287.66, nearly three shots per round better than the record produced by the squad a season ago. This year's Wildcats are tied for first in school history in wins (2) and top-three finishes (6), while they are tied for second in top-five finishes (8). Five of the top seven team rounds in school history have come this season in addition to four of the top six 54-hole marks. Seniors&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-golf/roster/carla-bernat/12238" rel="smarttag" rev="12238">Carla Bernat</a></dfn>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/womens-golf/roster/sophie-bert/12241" rel="smarttag" rev="12241">Sophie Bert</a></dfn>&nbsp;lead the team in scoring average at 70.09 and 72.75, respectively. Bernat's mark is currently tops in school history &ndash; 0.81 strokes per round better than the school record she put together last season &ndash; while Bert is third in school history. Bernat holds an average of 70.49 strokes per round during her time as a Wildcat, which is 3.64 shots per round better than the current school record held by Connie Jaffrey (74.13 &ndash; 2014-18). Bert broke the school record for single-round score with a 63 produced during the second round of the Westbrook Invitational in February, while her 54-hole score of 204 during that event tied the school record. She also claimed the first individual conference title in school history as she carded a 2-under par 211 to win the 2025 Big 12 Championship. K-State last appeared in an NCAA Regional in May 2017 when the Wildcats finished 13th out of 18 teams in Athens, Georgia. Prior to that, Kansas State was selected every year from 2001 through 2004, and its best finish at a regional was 10th out of 21 teams at the 2002 NCAA Central regional in Lincoln, Nebraska. Although the Wildcats have not advanced to an NCAA Regional in eight seasons, Bernat and Bert do have postseason experience. Last season, Bernat was selected as an individual in the NCAA Bryan (Texas) Regional, tying for third place at 7-under par 209 to advance to the NCAA Championship. She also played in two regionals at Tulane when the Green Wave &ndash; coached by Burke &ndash; won the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship and participated in the NCAA Stillwater Regional, where she tied for 10th place. She also qualified as an individual the next year, tying for 27th in the NCAA Athens Regional. Bert, a transfer from East Tennessee State, was part of a Buccaneer squad that won last season's Southern Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Auburn Regional. The Deurle, Belgium, product tied for 13th place at 5-over par 221.</div>

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;&ndash; For just the fourth time in program history&mdash;and the third consecutive year&mdash;the Kansas Women's Golf team has earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Regional Championship, announced Wednesday afternoon on the Golf Channel. Led by fourth-year head coach&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-golf/roster/coaches/lindsay-kuhle/364" rel="smarttag" rev="364">Lindsay Kuhle</a></dfn>, the Jayhawks will make their third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, competing in Columbus, Ohio, from May 5-7. Kansas enters NCAA Regional play as the No. 4 seed in the 12-team Columbus Regional and will play at the OSU Golf Club. For KU, this marks the highest NCAA Regional seed in school history. Kansas was the 14-seed in 2014, the 9-seed in 2023 and the 9-seed in 2024. "We're excited. We've had probably one of the best seasons in program history," said Kuhle. "To get the opportunity to play again and to play for a national championship, we're just beyond thrilled, and this is everything we work for. I know the course plays long. It's a beautiful area and I've never been to Ohio State, so we have some research to do in preparing the team. New opportunities, new experiences, and we're just ecstatic around here and thrilled to go." The Columbus Regional consists of 1. Arkansas; 2. LSU; 3. Ohio State (host);&nbsp;4. KANSAS; 5. Houston; 6. SMU; 7. UNLV; 8. Illinois; 9. Kent State; 10. Illinois State; 11. Xavier; and 12. Oakland. Kansas has previously received at-large bids to the NCAA Regionals in 2014, 2023 and 2024. The 2014 squad placed fifth in the Stillwater Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where the Jayhawks finished 24th. In 2023, the Jayhawks finished eighth at the Athens Regional, and last season, they placed sixth in the Cle Elum Regional. "I think we have learned a lot in the last two regional championships we played in," Kuhle added. "We learned how to handle pressure and how to handle every shot. We talk about that all year round, but it's really apparent when it's a competitive field. This year, we really made it a goal to try and finish in the top five of every tournament that we played in, and treat every tournament we played in like the regional championship, so we feel prepared." Ranked No. 23 in the latest Scoreboard Clippd standings, Kansas has seven Top 3 finishes in 2024-25 and has won a program single-season record five team titles. Through 10 events, Kansas has compiled a 286.80 scoring average. Before the NCAA implemented regional play, Kansas earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship in 1990 after winning the Big Eight Conference Tournament. KU would go on to finished 14th&nbsp;in the 1990 NCAA Championship. In addition to team appearances, KU has had several individuals compete in the NCAA Regionals: Holly Reynolds (1993, 1994), Amanda Costner (2006), Emily Powers (2008), Yupaporn Kawinpakorn (2015, 2016), and Pornvipa Sakdee (2016). Kawinpakorn and Sakdee were also key members of the 2014 NCAA Regional and Championship team, along with Thanuttra Boonraksasat, Minami Levonowich, and Meghan Potee. Regional play will take place May 5-7 at six regional sites, with 396 participants and each site featuring 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site will advance to compete in the national championships to be played May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort &amp; Spa in Carlsbad, California. In just her fourth season at Kansas, Kuhle has the Jayhawks in the NCAA Regional for the fourth time in school history and in three consecutive seasons. This is Kuhle's 22nd NCAA Regional with 18 as a coach and four as a student-athlete at Tulane (2002-05).</div>

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Hutchinson High School varsity baseball team returns home this week to host the Campus High&nbsp;Colts in an AVCTL Division I doubleheader this afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. for Game 1, with Game 2 to follow.

The Salthawks enter the doubleheader with a 8-5 record and are fresh off a win over Andover Central last Thursday in Andover. The Colts are 8-3 coming off a road win over Towanda Circle earlier in the week.

The judge overseeing the rewriting of the college sports rulebook threw a potentially deal-wrecking roadblock into the mix Wednesday, insisting parties in the $2.8 billion antitrust lawsuit redo the part of the proposed settlement involving roster limits that many schools are already putting in motion.

“Any disruption that may occur is a problem of Defendants’ and NCAA members schools’ own making,” U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken wrote in a pointed five-page order in which she gave no weight to the argument that a reworking of the proposal could throw college sports into chaos.

She gave the sides 14 days to contact their mediator and return to the bargaining table.

The settlement in the landmark class-action lawsuit called for schools to no longer be bound by scholarship limits for their teams, but rather by roster limits in which everyone would be eligible for aid.

It figured to ultimately weed out walk-ons, athletes on partial scholarships and,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/utep-womens-tennis-disbanded-83d9412d8acb62942990f47def0587c6">in extreme cases</a>, entire teams. In preparing for the settlement to be approved, schools across the country have been busy cutting players who, in turn, were finding spots on new teams.

Attorneys argued that undoing all those moves would add even more turbulence to an already tumultuous landscape.

Not her problem, Wilken said, in insisting both sides jumped the gun in making the moves.

“The fact that the Court granted preliminary approval of the settlement agreement should not have been interpreted as an indication that it was certain that the Court would grant final approval,” Wilken said of the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-college-sports-nil-pay-players-b7b87c81f44ac6e32955ef89e61ca893">preliminary nod she gave back in October</a>&nbsp;that set these transactions in motion.

While the attorneys look for a Plan B, the clock is ticking. Terms of the settlement were supposed to go into effect July 1. Football practice starts soon after. Whether rosters will come in at around the old average (128) or the newly prescribed limit (105) is an open question.

One of the plaintiff attorneys, working virtually in lockstep with the NCAA and conferences since this settlement was (all but) locked in, released a daunting statement.

“We will work hard to convince the NCAA and the conferences to address the court’s concerns,” Steve Berman said. “If we are unable to do so, then we are off to trial and we will return to fighting the NCAA in court with next steps.”

The NCAA and five defendant conferences released a joint statement saying they were closely reviewing the order.

“Our focus continues to be on securing approval of this significant agreement, which aims to create more opportunities than ever before for student-athletes while fostering much-needed stability and fairness in college sports,” it said.

Steven Molo, an attorney who represented more than 190 athletes at Wilken’s hearing earlier this month, viewed the order as a victory of sorts.

“We’re grateful the court understood the pain the proposed settlement has been inflicting on many student-athletes who’ve dedicated themselves to their sports,” Molo said. “The tremendous unfairness of the arbitrary roster limits must be addressed.”

As for the rest of the settlement — including the $2.8 billion in back damages and the $20.5 million many schools can dole out to their athletes — Wilken said she’s ready to go.

But this has been portrayed all along as an all-or-nothing deal, and though it was a mere matter of routine, Wilken’s release of a pretrial schedule — with some hearings scheduled out through September —underscored the idea that, indeed, there’s at least a chance this lawsuit could be resolved with a trial.

Not that any of this should have surprised the attorneys.

Wilken made clear toward the end of the daylong&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nil-ncaa-house-settlement-5937493302218963fc678562dcc8d222">settlement hearing April 7</a>&nbsp;that she would like the parties to find a way to gradually implement the roster-limit rules. She suggested “grandfathering in” athletes who already had roster spots. In her order Wednesday, she insisted that wasn’t as impossible as the attorneys made it sound.

“One way of achieving that could be to modify the settlement agreement to ensure that no (athletes) who have or had a roster spot will lose it as a result of the immediate implementation of the settlement agreement,” she wrote. “Limits could be accomplished gradually by attrition.”

Wilken also rejected attorneys’ arguments that, essentially, the good being done for thousands of athletes who can now get paid (and who might have a previously unavailable shot at a scholarship) offsets whatever damage takes place to the players who find themselves at new schools — or no school at all.

“The Court can approve the settlement agreement only if it is fair, reasonable, and adequate after considering, in relevant part, whether it ‘treats class members equitably relative to each other,’” Wilken wrote, in quoting a previous ruling.

It is not clear how many roster spots across hundreds of schools will vanish under the settlement, though some estimates have pegged the number in the thousands.

What is sure is that this ruling shoves the schools’ attempts at getting ready for 2025-26 a step deeper into a black hole of uncertainty. Also clear: the judge is every bit as concerned about the hundreds of athletes losing roster spots as she is with the multibillion-dollar industry they inhabit.

Judge delays $2.8 billion NCAA settlement to address roster limit concerns

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Freddy Fermin hit a winning single in the 11th and the Kansas City Royals rebounded from a blown two-run, ninth-inning lead to beat Colorado 4-3 on Tuesday night and drop the Rockies to 4-18.

Daniel Lynch IV (3-0) pitched a hitless inning as part of a five-hitter, sending Colorado to its ninth loss in 10 games. The Rockies are 1-12 on the road.

Jacob Stallings put Colorado ahead 3-2 with three-run double after Carlos Estévez walked the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth.

Salvador Perez singled off Seth Halvorsen starting the bottom half, advanced on Maikel Garcia’s double and scored on Michael Massey’s sacrifice fly.

With automatic runner Mark Canha on second starting the 11th, Tyler Kinley (0-1) intentionally walked Bobby Witt Jr., who extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an eighth-inning single. Kinley threw a wild pitch and intentionally walked Vinnie Pasquantino, and Fermin lined a single to center.

Drew Waters homered in the sixth off Ryan Feltner and Kyle Isbel bunted for an RBI single in the eighth that drove in Waters, who slid home ahead of the glove flip from first baseman Michael Toglia.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson High School softball team was swept by the Campus Colts on Tuesday afternoon at Fun Valley.&nbsp;

The Salthawks fall to 3-13 on the season and will play at Salina South on Friday. The Colts improve to 6-6 on the year.

Game 1 — Campus 19, Hutchinson 3

Campus scored 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 19-3 win over Hutchinson.

The Colts opened the game with a scoring barrage that included a run-scoring single from Kyra Caudillo, a three-run double by Brooke Burling, and RBI singles from Ava Strohm, Lillian Clements, Alexis Butler and Caudillo.

Addison Coupe started in the circle for Hutchinson and allowed seven hits and eight runs—only two of them earned—over one inning. She struck out one and walked three.

Caudillo and Butler each collected two hits to lead Haysville Campus, while Burling finished with a game-high three RBIs, going 1-for-1 at the plate.

Hutchinson fell to Haysville Campus 5-1 on Tuesday in the second game of the doubleheader.

Haysville Campus took an early lead in the second inning on a run-scoring double by Brooke Pfeiffer. Hutchinson answered in the bottom half of the frame when Annalee Eckhoff singled to center to tie the game at 1-1.

The Colts reclaimed the lead in the third on an RBI double by Alexis Butler and added insurance in the fifth with a solo home run to left by Emerleigh Cooper.

Kohlbie Craft pitched a complete game for Hutchinson, allowing 10 hits and five runs—four earned—while striking out four and walking one. Brooke Burling earned the win for Haysville Campus, giving up four hits and one run over seven innings with two strikeouts and two walks.

Eckhoff drove in the Salthawks’ lone run and finished 1-for-3. Jaden Durant went 2-for-3 to lead Hutchinson in hits, and the defense turned one double play.

Haysville Campus was led by Ava Strohm, Butler and Ellie Willig, who each had two hits. Four different Colts drove in one run apiece.

🥎 Salthawks swept by Colts

The College Football Playoff and ESPN have unveiled the schedule and kickoff times for the 2025-26 postseason, including dates for the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and National Championship.

ESPN remains the exclusive home of the CFP and is in the second year of its expanded agreement, which includes all First Round games and a sublicense for two contests to TNT Sports.

A key highlight of the upcoming schedule is a revamped New Year’s Day lineup. The Quarterfinal tripleheader will now feature earlier start times: the Capital One Orange Bowl at noon ET, the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential at 4 p.m., and the Allstate Sugar Bowl at 8 p.m.

All four Quarterfinals, both Semifinals, and the National Championship will air on ESPN. The title game is set for Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. This will be the second time Miami has hosted the championship, following the 2021 game, and marks back-to-back seasons where the title returns to a previous host city.

COLBY, Kan. &ndash; Familiar faces once again have found their way to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Softball Player of the Week honors with Hutchinson sophomore Bailey Backhaus and Barton freshman Meleia Ingram each turning big performances last week into their third Player of the Week honors of the season.&nbsp;
Bailey Backhaus &ndash; Hutchinson (KJCCC Division 1 Softball Player of the Week) Blue Dragon sophomore shortstop Bailey Backhaus had four multi-hit games this week, including her first career five-hit game. For the week, Backhaus was 13 for 18 (.722) from the leadoff spot and tallied an on-base percentage of .737. Backhaus had two doubles and two triples, with 11 runs scored and seven RBI in addition to seven stolen bases. In Game 2 at Garden City to end the week, Backhaus went five for seven with a double, four RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Backhaus is the NJCAA D1 Softball leader in batting average (.565) and hits (87) while ranking third in triples (9), fifth in stolen bases (51), and sixth in runs scored (76).
Meleia Ingram - Barton (KJCCC Division 1 Softball Pitcher of the Week) A perfect game highlighted freshman pitcher Meleia Ingram's 19-strikeout week, picking up a pair of victories to help Barton stay alive in the KJCCC race. Beginning the week on Monday with a seven-strikeout, four-inning performance in a non-conference victory over Southeast Community College, Ingram totally shut down conference foe Pratt on Wednesday by facing the minimum of 15 batters and striking out 12 with no ball that was put in play leaving the infield. Improving to 16-4 on the season, Ingram has eclipsed 10 or more strikeouts in five contests to lower her ERA in KJCCC play to 2.50.

NEWTON &ndash; The No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team will need a final-round comeback to retain its Region 6 Championship it won in 2024.
Leading by four strokes after 18 holes, the Blue Dragons saw Dodge City surge past them in the second round and Hutchinson will trail the Conquistadors by four strokes heading into Tuesday morning's final round at Sand Creek Station in Newton.

The Blue Dragons posted back-to-back rounds of 291 for a 36-hole total of 582 on Monday. Dodge City shot 295 in the opening round, but shot 5-under 283 in the afternoon round to lead the tournament at 578. Garden City is third at 597 (296-301).
Four Blue Dragon individuals reside in the Top 10 after 36 holes led by 2025 Jayhawk Conference champion <a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/box_charlie_0808">Charlie Box</a>, who had consecutive rounds of 3-under 69 on Monday to build a one-stroke lead at 138 after 36 holes over Dodge City's Rhys Nicholas (69-70&mdash;139).
The final round is Tuesday with three-man groups going off of hole No. 1 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Blue Dragon golfers tee off from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m.
The Blue Dragons built a four-stroke lead after 18 holes, counting scores from Box (69), <a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/ross_louis_6g3i">Louis Ross</a> (70), <a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/northgraves_jack_mp7b">Jack Northgraves</a> (75) and <a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/caruthers_jaydon_5jz1">Jaydon Carruthers</a> (77). Dodge City shot 291 in the first round.
The Dragons counted scores in the second round from Box. (69), Carruthers (73), Ross (74) and <a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/razinskas_david_xbtl">David Razinskas</a>(75). Dodge City was eight strokes better in the afternoon round at 283.
Ross is tied for third individually at even-par 144 after rounds of 70 and 74 on Monday. Ross birdied his final hole in the opening round to finish at 2-under 70. He is tied with Garden City's Ilan Dufernoy for third at 144.
Carruthers and Blue Dragon individual <a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/schultz_cal_h6x5">Cal Schultz</a> are in a three-way tie for 10th after two rounds at 6-over 150. Carruthers struggled in the first round with a 77, but improved to 1-over 73 in the afternoon round. Schultz had back-to-back rounds of 75 on Monday.
Blue Dragon individuals <a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/walker_tyler_ijcw">Tyler Walker</a> and Corey Scullion are tied for 13th at 151. Walker had rounds of 76 and 75, while Scullion had rounds of 77 and 74 on Monday.
Razinskas is 20th overall at 154 (79-75). Northgraves is 21st at 155 (75-80).
After winning their sixth-straight Jayhawk Conference championship last week in Manhattan, the Blue Dragons are bidding for their fifth Region 6 championship in the last six seasons.

STERLING, Kan. &mdash; Sydney Schrant of Cheney fired an 81 (+10) to claim individual medalist honors at the Black Bear Golf Invitational on Monday at Sterling Country Club, where par was set at 71. Schrant&rsquo;s steady round helped lead Cheney to the team title with a combined score of 61-over-par.

Sterling finished third as a team at +92, paced by Cameron Morris, who posted an 83 (+12) to place third overall. Lane Weigel (+24), Wyatt Newberry (+27), and Waylon Schmidt (+29) rounded out the scoring for the Black Bears on their home course.

Halstead placed fourth at +98, with Wesley Parks shooting 93 (+22) to lead the Dragons. Jacob Rose (+23), Maxx Linton (+26), Lance Anderson (+27), and Harrison Wilson (+28) provided additional solid rounds.

LAWRENCE, Kan. &ndash;&nbsp;Kansas volleyball will return to historic Allen Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 24 to host Kansas State in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown. The announcement was made Monday as part of the Big 12 Conference schedule release. &nbsp; The Jayhawks, under first-year coach&nbsp;<dfn><a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/coaches/matt-ulmer/892" rel="smarttag" rev="892">Matt Ulmer</a></dfn>, will play an 18-game Big 12 Conference schedule, opening it up on Sept. 26, when KU welcomes Arizona State for the first of nine conference home matches. Kansas will also host Arizona, Texas Tech, Iowa State, TCU, Colorado, Cincinnati, and UCF at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena, in addition to hosting Kansas State at Allen Fieldhouse.&nbsp; &nbsp; For the other half of Big 12 competition, the Jayhawks will take to the road to face against TCU, Baylor, Houston, Kansas State, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Utah, BYU and Iowa State. Of the 15 conference opponents, Kansas will play a home-and-home series against TCU, Iowa State, Kansas State and Cincinnati. &nbsp; In its home matchup against Kansas State,&nbsp;Kansas will return to&nbsp;Allen Fieldhouse&nbsp;for the first time since 2013, when the Jayhawks hosted one regular season match and the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament&nbsp;there. In the postseason, KU defeated Wichita State and Creighton to advance to the regional semifinals. The Jayhawks also played three games at Allen Fieldhouse in 2012, sweeping Saint Louis in a regular season match before going 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament. &nbsp; Kansas volleyball played its home matches at Allen Fieldhouse from 1975-98 before moving into the Horejsi Family Athletics Center in 1999. The facility was later renovated and unveiled as the new state-of-the-art Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena on Sept. 10, 2019.&nbsp;Prior to moving, the attendance record in Allen Fieldhouse was 14,800 for a match against Missouri on Oct 18, 1996. The largest crowd since then was 4,478 for the NCAA first round matchup vs. Wichita State on Dec. 1, 2012. &nbsp; "The fan support for Kansas volleyball continues to grow," Ulmer said. "We are thankful that Kansas State has agreed to compete with us in Allen Fieldhouse to showcase just how large that support is. 🏐 Dillons Sunflower Showdown moves to Allen Fieldhouse for 2025 season

WICHITA, Kan. –&nbsp;On November 20, the Kansas Board of Regents approved a request from Wichita State to enhance the name of the on-campus baseball stadium to Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field at Gene Stephenson Park.

There will be an official dedication ceremony on Saturday, May 3 to unveil the signage on the stadium. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and will be held outside the stadium on the southwest corner. A social will also be held after the ceremony in the All-American Club.

The stadium name was enhanced to honor Hall of Fame coach Gene Stephenson who was the head coach at Wichita State from 1978-2013.

When he came to WSU in 1977 from the University of Oklahoma, the Shocker baseball program was just being started again. He was instrumental in building the program and the stadium from the ground up.

Stephenson was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014, the Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame in 2019 and is a three-time NCAA Coach of the Year and 11-time Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year. In 1989, he led the Shockers to the College World Series championship.

He led WSU to seven College World Series appearances, 27 NCAA Regional appearances, two NCAA Super Regional appearances, 20 Valley regular-season titles, and 17 Valley tournament championships. He directed Wichita State to more wins than any NCAA Division I program in the country eight times and coached 33 players at Wichita State who played in the Major Leagues.

He coached three players named NCAA Player of the Year and one named NCAA Pitcher of the Year. He also coached two players named NCAA Academic Player of the Year and 20 players who earned Academic All-America honors a total of 27 times.

He coached 54 All-Americans, 33 Freshman All-Americans, 15 conference Players of the Year, 12 conference Pitchers of the Year and 13 MLB first-round draft picks. He is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference All-Centennial Team and won 60 or more games five times and 50 or more games 19 times.

His number 10 is the only Shocker baseball number to be retired.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The NCAA passed rules Monday that would upend decades of precedent by allowing colleges to pay their athletes per terms of a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nil-ncaa-house-settlement-1dc0f36ee94134d6ace86fd0bd66f290">multibillion-dollar lawsuit settlement</a>&nbsp;expected to go into effect this summer.

The nine proposals passed by the NCAA board were largely expected but still mark a defining day in the history of college sports. An athlete’s ability to be&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/college-athletes-amateur-ncaa-79e481c957d73a545fee24cda06e4f87">paid directly by his or her university</a>&nbsp;is on track to be enshrined in a rulebook that has forbidden that kind of relationship for decades.

For the NCAA rules to officially go into effect, the changes prescribed by the House settlement still have to be granted final&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/college-lawsuit-settlement-roster-limits-2cdd17ee4b6081dd8892b3dc998d03e8">approval by a federal judge</a>, whose hearing earlier this month led to questions about potential tweaks before the new guidelines are supposed to go into play on July 1.

The changes will eliminate around 150 rules and alter many others in the NCAA’s sprawling rulebook. They essentially codify measures set up by the settlement, including:

—Modifying bylaws to allow schools to pay the athletes directly.

—Eliminating scholarship limits for teams, while also&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-lawsuit-settlement-nil-d162a40c71be28a380c75d6c8202807a">setting roster limits</a>&nbsp;that are designed to replace the scholarship caps. Some details of the roster limits, which were a key sticking point in the April 7 hearing, will be finalized later.

—Establishing annual reporting requirements for schools that pay athletes; a payment pool is set to be approximately $20.5 million for the biggest schools beginning next academic year.

—Setting up a clearinghouse for all name, image and likeness (NIL) deals that come from third parties and are worth $600 or more.

The honor from the Big 12 is the second of the season for Hauge. He received Big 12 Player of the Week on March 17. &nbsp; Hauge hit .467/.526/1.000 (7-for-15), with two doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs, six runs scored, three walks and a 1.526 OPS in four games last week. Hauge crushed a go-ahead 3-run homer in the seventh inning on Friday night against Kansas State. He also extended his on-base streak to 27 games. &nbsp; For the third time this season, Hauge homered in back-to-back games. In addition to his Friday night homer, Hauge hit a long ball on Tuesday against Wichita State. In all four games, Hauge drove in at least one run and in three of four games he scored a run or drew a walk. &nbsp; A native of Ramsey, Minnesota, Hauge leads the Big 12 with 17 home runs (tied for third nationally), 60 RBIs (tied for second nationally) and 117 total bases (16th nationally). BOSTON (AP) — Sharon Lokedi broke the Boston Marathon course record, and fellow Kenyan John Korir joined his brother as a race champion on Monday as the city celebrated the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War.

Lokedi, who ran for the University of Kansas from 2015-2019, outran two-time defending champion Hellen Obiri over the final mile a year after losing a sprint down Boylston Street to her in one of the closest finishes in race history. Lokedi finished in an unofficial 2 hours, 17 minutes, 22 seconds — 19 seconds ahead of Obiri and more than 2 1/2 minutes faster than the previous Boston best.

Six months after winning Chicago, Korir finished in 2:04:45 — the second-fastest winning time in race history as the runners took advantage of perfect marathon weather to conquer the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston’s Copley Square.

After crossing the line, Korir was greeted by his older brother, 2012 Boston winner Wesley Korir. Although the race has been won by a pair of unrelated John Kelleys and two different Robert Cheruiyots, the Korirs are the first brothers — or relatives of any kind — to win the world's oldest and most prestigious annual marathon.

Conner Mantz of Provo, Utah, finished fourth after losing a three-way sprint to the finish with Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania and Cybrian Kotut of Kenya. Simbu was second and Kotut was third.

Korir ran without his bib showing, pulling it out of his running tights as he sprinted down Boylston Street.

Reenactors on horseback, accompanied by a fife and drum playing “Yankee Doodle,” helped start the festivities and add a bit of levity when Paul Revere’s horse was spooked by the finish line decal on the street and stopped. The actor portraying the colonial silversmith and patriot had to hop off and walk the last few steps himself as the small early crowd laughed and clapped.

After reading a proclamation, Revere gently tugged the horse the rest of the way before riding off to more ceremonies commemorating the midnight ride on April 19, 1775, that warned the colonists in Lexington and Concord that the British were on the march.

Marcel Hug of Switzerland had no such trouble completing the course, zooming into Copley Square in 1:21:34 for his eighth Boston wheelchair title. He beat two-time winner Daniel Romanchuk by more than four minutes in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/boston-marathon-wheelchair-bob-hall-0426d27b488fbb668c04523a391d655d">50th anniversary of Bob Hall’s pioneering push</a>&nbsp;to add a wheelchair division to the race.

“It means a lot to win this year, 50 years of wheelchairs in Boston,” Hug said. “For me, it will take some time to realize what it means, eight times wins. It’s such an incredible number.”

Susannah Scaroni of the United States won the women’s wheelchair race for the second time, finishing in 1:35:20.
