👟 Inman girls win Sterling Relays, Sterling boys finish second

STERLING, Kan. — The Inman girls won the Sterling Relays on Thursday at Smisor Stadium, while the Sterling boys placed second in the boys team standings.

The Inman girls finished with 137 points to win the team title, ahead of Ellsworth’s 105. Sterling was fifth with 49 points, Nickerson was sixth with 47, Lyons placed eighth with 12, Hutchinson Central Christian was ninth with five and Fairfield was 10th with three.

Inman piled up a strong day across the track and field events. Olivia Brunk won the 100-meter dash in 12.69 seconds and later finished second in the 200 in 26.73. Lily Heflin added a victory in the 800 at 2:25.54, while Brooklyn Black swept the hurdles, winning the 100 hurdles in 15.83 and the 300 hurdles in 48.11.

The Teutons also got a dominant performance in the throws, where Allison Schrag won the discus at 122 feet, 7 inches, Taylor Froese was second at 121-6 and Morgan Froese was fourth at 115-3. Inman also won the 4x100 relay in 51.30 and the 4x400 relay in 4:08.66.

Sterling was led by Julia Kilgore, who swept the open sprints by winning the 200 in 26.19 and the 400 in 59.67. The Black Bears also placed third in the 4x400 relay in 4:28.01.

Nickerson’s top highlight on the girls side came from Delaney Childs, who won the javelin with a throw of 121-0. Bella Brinkley added a runner-up finish in the triple jump at 33-7.50 and placed fifth in the long jump at 15-1.25, while Montana Peterson was second in the high jump at 4-8 and seventh in the 100 hurdles.

Lyons was led by Greta Showalter, who finished second in the javelin at 111-8 and placed fifth in the 100 hurdles in 18.03. Fairfield’s points came from Kenley Fowler, who finished fifth in the high jump and sixth in the 400, and Kora Zongker, who placed seventh in the triple jump.

Hutchinson Central Christian scored five team points, led by Addi Loudenback. Loudenback finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in 51.81, sixth in the 200 in 28.77 and 10th in the 100 hurdles in 19.70.

On the boys side, Little River won the team title with 125 points. Sterling was second with 98, Inman was third with 90, Lyons fourth with 85, Fairfield sixth with 31 and Nickerson seventh with 29.

Sterling turned in one of the top all-around performances in the boys meet. Zane Farney swept the hurdle races, winning the 110 hurdles in 14.82 and the 300 hurdles in 40.32. Jacob Lewis won the high jump at 6-2 and finished second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles. Sterling also got a third-place finish from Kevin Ploutz in the shot put, a third from Cale Thomas in the javelin and a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 relay.

Inman was powered by its distance and jumping events. Tyler Martisko won the 800 in 1:57.81, Riley Roots won the 1,600 in 4:50.35 and Korbyn McClellan captured the long jump at 19-9.50. The Teutons also won the 4x400 relay in 3:34.61. Samuel Brensing added runner-up finishes in the 110 hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles.

Lyons had a strong day in the sprints and relays. Jace Thompson won the 400 in 53.82, while David Pando finished third in the 100, second in the 200 and second in the long jump. The Lions also placed third in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, and were second in the 4x800 relay.

Nickerson was led by Aiden Brinkley, who won the 3,200 in 10:46.36 and finished third in the 1,600. Noah Weber added fifth in the 400, fourth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump. The Panthers also got a fifth-place finish from Zein Rector in the discus and sixth in the 4x100 relay.

Fairfield’s boys were highlighted by Brodie Snodgrass, who finished fourth in the 100 and third in the long jump. The Falcons also won the 4x800 relay in 9:07.88 and got runner-up finishes from Ryland Perry in the high jump and Gavin Foster in the discus.
