WICHITA – The championship football game for the Jayhawk Conference will be held on a converted baseball field.&nbsp;

The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) signed an agreement with the Wichita Wind Surge and Riverfront Stadium in Wichita to hold their playoff championship game there on Sunday, November 21 at 1 p.m.

"Having the first football game to be played at Riverfront is exciting," said Carl Heinrich, KJCCC commissioner. "We look forward to Wichita and the Wind Surge hosting this unique event."

Ticket sales will begin on Friday morning, according to Jordan Kobritz, CEO of the Wind Surge. Tickets will be available for the general public, as well as marketed to the alumni and booster clubs of the participating colleges. The upper box suites will also be made available to interested parties.

The KJCCC will have playoffs involving all eight teams this year, beginning with quarterfinal matchups on Nov. 7, followed by semifinals on Nov. 14. All games prior to the championship will be held at the higher seed's home field.

The Wind Surge and Riverfront Stadium will lay fresh sod on the dirt infield portion of the stadium field, with the pitcher's mound removed well prior to the game. The actual football field will run from North to South, with the third base line serving as one team's sideline. Goalposts will be brought in and installed in existing underground sleeves days prior to the championship. The two teams in the championship will have a walk-through practice day on the grass turf prior to the game.

(AP) — The Chiefs signed wide receiver Josh Gordon to the practice squad last week, shortly after he was reinstated by the league from his sixth suspension — most of them drug-related. And they added him to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, making it clear that they expect him to be a contributor when they play Buffalo on Sunday night. Chiefs coach Andy Reid wasn't about to make any promises on Wednesday, but he did sound optimistic that the big, fast wide receiver can provide another element to what is already one of the league's best offenses.

Not only would more big plays in the running game help balance out the No. 4 Nittany Lions' offense, they'd certainly come in handy against No. 3 Iowa's hard-nosed defense on Saturday. Penn State will head to Iowa City with four backs — Noah Cain, Keyvone Lee, John Lovett and Devyn Ford —who've split reps with mixed results. The Nittany Lions rank 11th in the Big Ten and 93rd in the country in rushing. Although they're coming off their best outing of the season, they've managed just 132.6 rushing yards per game.

UNDATED (AP) — Alabama and Georgia have made it abundantly clear they're the cream of the Southeastern Conference yet again this season. When looking at the rest of the league, think Elvis Presley and the Jordanaires. Figuring out who's the best of this group is a bit more fuzzy after Florida, Ole Miss, Texas A&amp;M and LSU all lost last weekend. No. 16 Kentucky, the only other undefeated SEC team, and No. 18 Auburn have pushed their way up the list. Remaining in contention means handling the SEC test. A wild pitch by Max Scherzer scored Tommy Edman and gave the Cardinals the lead in the first inning. It remained 1-0 until Justin Turner unloaded a home run off Adam Wainwright in the bottom of the fourth.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts put the outcome in the hands of his bullpen after Scherzer was lifted with two on and one out in the fifth. The LA bullpen came through with 4 2/3 shutout innings, allowing just two hits while fanning six.

Wainwright allowed four hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

The two clubs were a combined 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position until Taylor's blast.

The Dodgers get to face the 107-win San Francisco Giants, who say Logan Webb will start Game 1 on Friday. Webb won the NL West clincher on Sunday, hitting a two-run homer and working into the eighth inning.

UNDATED (AP) — The two American League Division Series begin on Thursday.

The top teams in the AL East are squaring off in the Division Series. The Red Sox led the division by 4 ½ games on July 7, only to finish eight games behind the Rays. Tampa Bay won the season series, 11-8 despite losing their first four meetings with Boston.

Shane McClanahan starts Game 1 for the Rays on Thursday after going 10-6 during the regular season. He'll be opposed by Eduardo Rodriguez.

Chris Sale could start Game 2 against rookie Shane Baz.

Bosox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that he's not sure J.D. Martinez will be available due to an ankle injury.

The White Sox and Astros were separated by just two wins as they captured their respective division titles, but Houston took the season series, 5-2. The Astros are making their fifth consecutive postseason appearance. The White Sox are in consecutive playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

A pair of Lances are the Game 1 starters. Lance Lynn pitches for the White Sox after going 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA in the regular season. The Astros counter with Lance McCullers Jr., who was 13-5 with a 3.16 ERA.

The Astros will send Framber Valdes to the mound for Game 2 against Lucas Giolito.

Padres fire Tingler after second-half collapse

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres have fired Jayce Tingler, who presided over the biggest collapse in franchise history just a season after finishing second in voting for NL Manager of the Year. 

General manager A.J. Preller announced the move three days after the Padres finished 79-83 and in third place in the NL West, 28 games behind San Francisco. 

Tingler's fate was sealed during a brutal freefall that saw the Padres go from a one-game lead for the NL's second wild-card spot on Sept. 9 to being eliminated from playoff contention with seven games left. 

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — After resisting the move, Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy has made Justin Fields his first-string quarterback going forward, moving veteran Andy Dalton into the backup role.

The former Ohio State quarterback and a first-round draft pick had played against Detroit and Cleveland as the starter but only because of veteran Dalton's knee injury. 

Dalton is recovered from a bone bruise and has resumed practicing this week.

— Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio says quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has a chance to practice Thursday after leaving Sunday's game against Baltimore with a concussion. Fangio says Bridgewater is improving and was cleared to lift weights with the team and attend meetings. 

— The Panthers have acquired veteran cornerback and 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore from the Patriots for a 2023 sixth-round draft pick. The moves comes after Gilmore and the Patriots couldn't come to terms on a new contract. 

— Carolina running back Christian McCaffrey returned to practice Wednesday on a limited basis after missing Sunday's 36-28 loss to the Cowboys with a hamstring injury. 

— Browns starting linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. has returned to practice and will likely be activated later this week to play against the Chargers. However, the Browns are without defensive end Jadeveon Clowney as well as cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II and nickel back Troy Hill.

— The Cowboys are moving on from linebacker Jaylon Smith without getting into the specifics of the decision to release their leading returning tackler four games into 2021. One of the factors was a looming $9.2 million guarantee on Smith's 2022 salary if he got injured. 

— Washington has put tight end Logan Thomas on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Thomas' absence for at least the next three games could open the door for Sammis Reyes to become the first person from Chile to play in an NFL game.

— The Lions put standout center Frank Ragnow on injured reserve, another setback for a banged-up winless team. The Lions are expected to give center Evan Brown his first career start Sunday at Minnesota. 

— Jaguars coach Urban Meyer publicly apologized for the third consecutive day Wednesday and said he never considered resigning after his "inexcusable" behavior at an Ohio bar was caught on camera and released on social media. Meyer says several members of the team's leadership council have expressed their support. Team owner Shad Khan publicly reprimanded the Meyer for his actions at the bar last weekend. 

— The NFL Players Association says it has sent a formal request to the league for information about Washington's practice facility being searched by federal authorities last week. The NFLPA says the situation directly impacts player health and safety and that the collective bargaining agreement obligates teams to adhere to state and federal laws. Head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion was put on administrative leave for what a Washington spokesman called an ongoing criminal investigation unrelated to the team. 

— Jets coach Robert Saleh says safety Marcus Maye has the team's support. The star player is dealing with legal issues after being charged in February with drunken driving after a car crash in Florida. Saleh declined to say whether he and the team previously knew about the accident and arrest that was first reported Monday night. 

— Suspended Dallas offensive lineman La'el Collins has sued the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell. Collins is seeking an injunction to stop the remaining two games of a five-game ban over substance-abuse violations. The suit claims the NFL suspended the seventh-year player for missed tests when the labor agreement reached in 2020 no longer allowed for suspensions over missed tests or positive marijuana tests.

NFL ratings up 17%, averaging 17.3 million viewers

UNDATED (AP) — NFL games are averaging 17.3 million viewers on television and digital, a whopping 17% increase over last season and 3% compared to two years ago. 

Whether or not the league can maintain that level of growth remains to be seen. 

Last season was played during the pandemic, mostly in empty stadiums. Also, many people's viewing habits changed in a presidential election year. 

Four of the five league broadcasters have growth above 20%. 

No testing for marijuana in NBA this season

NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA has agreed to not randomly test players for marijuana this season. 

It's a continuation of the policy that was put in place last year for the restart bubble and has remained since. Drug testing will continue for things such as human growth hormone, other performance-enhancers and "drugs of abuse" such as methamphetamine, cocaine and opiates.

More than half of the states in the U.S. have decriminalized possessing small amounts of marijuana.

UNDATED (AP) — San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane is being investigated on allegations that he used a fake COVID-19 vaccination card. 

A person familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press about the inquiry. 

Using a fake vaccination card is illegal in both the United States and Canada, as well as against NHL rules.

This probe is just the latest into Kane, who was cleared last month of allegations made by his estranged wife that he bet on NHL games, some involving his own team.

— Canadiens coach Dominique Ducharme says he does not expect Carey Price to practice before the start of the regular season, making the goaltender doubtful for the opener at Toronto. Ducharme says Price is recovering from a non-COVID-19 illness and offseason surgery to repair a torn meniscus. 

— The Coyotes have signed forward Alex Galchenyuk (gal-CHEHN'-yuhk) to a one-year deal. The 27-year-old returns to Arizona after scoring five goals with eight assists with Ottawa and Toronto last season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs signed wide receiver Josh Gordon to the practice squad last week, shortly after he was reinstated by the league from his sixth suspension — most of them drug-related. 

They added him to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, making it clear that they expect him to be a contributor when they play Buffalo on Sunday night. 

Chiefs coach Andy Reid wasn't about to make any promises on Wednesday, but he did sound optimistic that the big, fast wide receiver can provide another element to what is already one of the league's best offenses.

Benintendi, 27, led the Royals in September/October in batting average (.342), on-base percentage (.398) and OPS (.969) and had 29 RBI in 31 games, one behind the Major League leaders. Benintendi had one three-hit game, two four-hit games and a career-high-tying five-hit game for a total of 39 hits in 31 games, which ranked third in the American League behind Bo Bichette (43) and teammate Nicky Lopez (40). He earned American League Player of the Week honors for the period of Sept. 6-12, a stretch in which he hit .536 (15-for-28) with six extra-base hits and a Majors-leading 14 RBI in seven games, matching the club record for RBI on a road trip of seven games or fewer. That stretch included two different games with four hits and five RBI on Sept. 8 at Baltimore and Sept. 10 at Minnesota, the last of which marked his fifth career multi-home run game. This is Benintendi’s second Royals Player of the Month Award, after winning the honors in May of this season.

Bubic, 24, pitched to a 2.20 ERA (8 ER in 32.2 IP) and .193 opponents’ average (22-for-114) in six appearances (5 starts) from Sept. 1 through season’s end, which ranked third and sixth, respectively in the American League. He pitched into the sixth inning in all five of his starts and allowed no more than two earned runs in any of them, including a career-best 7.0 scoreless innings with just two hits allowed in a 2-1 win in Detroit on Sept. 26. Prior to that start, he held Seattle to one run on two hits over 6.1 innings in an 8-1 victory on Sept. 18 to mark a win in consecutive starts for the first time in his career. This is Bubic’s first Royals Pitcher of the Month Award.

But neither won their division, so they'll square off in the winner-take-all game at Dodger Stadium. Forty-year-old Adam Wainwright starts for the Cardinals against 37-year-old Max Scherzer. It's just the second elimination game in postseason history with two starting pitchers aged 37-plus. The two pitchers have squared off once before in the postseason. Scherzer's Washington Nationals beat Wainwright's Cardinals in the 2019 NL Championship Series.

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have earned themselves a few days in Florida.

The Bosox have moved into the AL Division Series by thumping the Yankees, 6-2 in the wild-card game. Xander Bogaerts (BOH'-gahrts) and Kyle Schwarber belted early homers and Alex Verdugo drove in three runs to back a sterling performance by Nathan Eovaldi (eh-VAHL'-dee).

Bogaerts set the tone with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, two innings before Schwarber's solo blast. Verdugo padded Boston's lead with an RBI double and a two-run single.

Eovaldi allowed a run and four hits while striking out eight over 5 1/3 innings, blanking New York until Anthony Rizzo homered in the sixth. 

Gerrit Cole was pulled with two on and no out in the third, charged with three runs and four hits.

Giancarlo Stanton had three of New York's six hits, including a ninth-inning homer.

The ALDS begins Thursday in St. Petersburg as the Bosox take on the league-leading Tampa Bay Rays.

— Two missing Dodgers pitchers earn nearly as much as the entire Rays' major league roster heading into the playoffs. The defending champion Dodgers currently have more than three times the payroll of the Rays, the team they beat in last year's World Series. Rockies work out deals with Senzatela, Cron

UNDATED (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have agreed to deals with right-hander Antonio Senzatela and first-baseman C.J. Cron. 

Senzatela's five-year, $50.5 million contract includes a club option for 2027. He was 4-10 with a 4.42 ERA in 28 starts last season. 

Cron will return on a two-year, $14.5 million deal. He hit .281 with a team-leading 28 homers after signing a free-agent deal last February. 

— Shortstop Alcides (al-SEE'-dehs) Escobar has agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract to stay with the Nationals. Escobar batted .288 with 21 doubles, two triples, four homers and 28 RBIs in 75 games with the Nationals after signing with the club in July. The 2015 All-Star is a lifetime .259 hitter with 245 doubles and 470 RBIs over 12 major league seasons.

— Former major league player and general manager Eddie Robinson has died at age 100. Robinson had been the oldest former big leaguer, the last surviving member of the Cleveland Indians' 1948 World Series championship team. He played 13 years in the majors and was GM of the Rangers from 1976-82.

Irving misses 1st practice after Nets return to New York

UNDATED (AP) — Kyrie Irving didn't practice with the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, again remaining away from the team amid questions about his availability to play in New York because of the city's vaccine mandate. 

Coach Steve Nash had no further update about the status of his All-Star guard but said the team supports him. 

Irving hasn't said if he has been vaccinated against COVID-19, asking for privacy when pressed about his status during the team's media day on Sept. 27. He wasn't with his teammates that day at Barclays Center, instead appearing via Zoom.

NCAA waiver will help football teams replace transfers

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA Division I Council has approved a one-year waiver that will allow football teams to sign up to seven players to replace those that leave the program. The move is intended to address a growing number of transfers. 

Current NCAA rules state a team can sign no more than 25 players to a scholarship in any year. But more players are switching teams and a bonus year of eligibility was granted to athletes who competed during the pandemic last year. That has coaches worried they will not be able to replenish their rosters.

The 'Dinah' leaving desert as LPGA major gets new sponsor

UNDATED (AP) — The LPGA says Chevron has agreed to a six-year deal as title sponsor of the event currently known as the ANA Inspiration. Chevron takes over in 2023 and plans to move the tournament near company headquarters in Houston.

Next April will be the end of 40 years of the only women's major played on the same course at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, California. 

UNDATED (AP) — The IndyCar future of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato is in doubt after Rahal Letterman Lanigan said the Japanese driver won't return to the team next year.

AMARILLO, Texas – Sophomore All-American Ben Partridge fired a third-straight under-par round to lead the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team to a fourth-place tie on Tuesday at the West Texas A&amp;M Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at the Amarillo Country Club.

Partridge finished with a 1-under par 70 on Tuesday to tie for second place individually.

The Blue Dragons shot a 3-over par 287 and tied Jayhawk Conference rival Garden City for fourth place at 854. The Blue Dragons and Broncbusters were the highest-finishing NJCAA teams in the NCAA Division II-heavy field. Tournament host West Texas A&amp;M won the tournament at 837 (-15).

Hutchinson had a school-record seven-tournament winning streak, which dated back to the second spring tournament of the 2020-21 season, come to an end.

The Blue Dragons counted Partridge’s 70, Blake Saffel’s 71, Harry Crockett’s 72 and Dominic Clemons’ 74 in its team score on Tuesday. Garden City made up a lot of ground on the Blue Dragons in the final round, shooting a 6-under 278.

With rounds of 65, 70 and 70, Partridge tied for second with West Texas’ Eemili Jarvinen and 8-under 205. Cameron University’s Tyler Kaman birdied his final hole and won individual honors at 9-under 204 after a final-round 68.

Crockett was the only other Top 20 individual placer for the Blue Dragons. Crockett finished in a five-way tie for 14th at even-par 213.

Clemons tied for 40th at 5-over 218. Saffel tied for 43rd at 6-over 219. Sophomore Cameron Rios-Ceballos finished with a 75 on Tuesday and tied for 62nd overall at 224.

Blue Dragon individual players Addison Alonzo and Finn Nelson had strong tournaments.

After shooting a career-low 69 on Monday, Alonzo closed with back-to-back 73s and tied for 25th at 2-over 215.

Nelson got stronger as the tournament went on. Starting with a 78 in the opening round on Monday, Nelson shot 71 in the second round and closed with a 2-under 69 on Tuesday to tie for 40th at 5-over 218.

The Blue Dragons are back in Texas next week for the Midwest State Fall Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas on Monday and Tuesday.

Sophomore Cameron Rios-Ceballos finished with a 75 on Tuesday and tied for 62nd overall at 224.Blue Dragon individual players Addison Alonzo and Finn Nelson had strong tournaments.After shooting a career-low 69 on Monday, Alonzo closed with back-to-back 73s and tied for 25th at 2-over 215.Nelson got stronger as the tournament went on. Starting with a 78 in the opening round on Monday, Nelson shot 71 in the second round and closed with a 2-under 69 on Tuesday to tie for 40th at 5-over 218.The Blue Dragons are back in Texas next week for the Midwest State Fall Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas on Monday and Tuesday.
