The rematch of the AFC title game was delayed more than an hour by lightning when the teams were at halftime. The Bills improved to 4-1 by beating the Chiefs for only the second time in their last seven meetings. Patrick Mahomes threw two TD passes and was picked off twice, both of them on balls that were tipped, as the Chiefs dropped to 2-3 and last place in the AFC West.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs defense was once again abysmal in a 38-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night in a rematch of the AFC title game. The defense watched the Kansas City offense turn the ball over four times without forcing one of their own. They gave up 315 yards through the air, 121 on the ground and 8.1 yards per play. And the Kansas City defense could not make a stop when the offense scored in the fourth quarter to make it a two-possession game.

UNDATED (AP) — Georgia is the new No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll by a unanimous vote, taking the top spot in the regular season for the first time since November 1982. The Bulldogs rise from No. 2 comes a day after preseason No. 1 Alabama was upset at Texas A&amp;M. The defending national champion Crimson Tide slipped four spots to No. 5 after its first loss of the season. Iowa is up to No. 2, leading five Big Ten teams ranked in the top 10, a first for that conference.&nbsp;

GRINNELL, Iowa (AP) — Football is back at Grinnell College in Iowa. The Division III Pioneers have a new coach along with lots of new players and a new look. Grinnell didn't play in 2020 because of the pandemic. It drew national attention in 2019 when players voted to shut down the season after three games. The 38-man roster had shrunk to 28 because of a run of injuries. Players believed it was unsafe to continue but they also wanted to send a message that they needed more support from the administration. Changes were made and now the Pioneers have two wins.

UNDATED (AP) — Mason Crosby went from goat to hero with one kick in overtime.

Crosby missed three consecutive field goal attempts before nailing a 49-yarder to give the Packers a 25-22 victory at Cincinnati. Crosby missed two in the final 2:12 of regulation and again in OT before sending the Packers to their fourth straight win.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns, with Davante Adams grabbing 11 passes for 206 yards and a score. Aaron Jones rushed for 103 yards. 

Ja'Marr Chase had six receptions for 159 yards and a long TD.

Joe Burrow threw for 281 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He left the stadium for the hospital after the game as a precaution for a possible throat contusion.

— The Buccaneers crushed the Dolphins, 45-17 as Tom Brady threw for 411 yards and five touchdowns. Antonio Brown became the fastest receiver to 900 catches as he grabbed scoring strikes of 62 and 4 yards. Mike Evans had TD catches of 34 and 22 yards, and Giovani Bernard also scored on a 10-yard reception.

— The Bills won a rematch of last season's AFC title game as Josh Allen threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth in a 38-20 trouncing of the Chiefs. Allen finished with 315 yards through the air, and Micah Hyde returned a rare interception of Patrick Mahomes 26 yards for another score. — Dak Prescott threw for three touchdowns for the Cowboys in a 44-20 thumping of the Giants. Prescott shook off a pair of first-half turnovers to finish 22 of 32 for 302 yards, one day to the year of his gruesome ankle injury suffered against New York. The already injury-plagued Giants lost running back Saquon (SAY'-kwahn) Barkley to an apparent ankle sprain in the first quarter and quarterback Daniel Jones to a concussion in the second.

— DeAndre Hopkins hauled in a difficult 9-yard touchdown catch with 5:13 remaining to give the Cardinals a 17-7 lead in a 17-10 downing of the 49ers. Kyler Murray completed 22 of 31 passes for 239 yards to help the Cardinals improve to 5-0 for the first time since 1974. Niners rookie Trey Lance finished 15 of 29 passing for 192 yards and one interception in his first career start, also rushing for a team-high 89 yards.

— Austin Ekeler (EHK'-lur) scored three touchdowns, including a 3-yard score with 1:31 remaining in the Chargers' wild 47-42 triumph over the Browns. Justin Herbert had his record 11th 300-yard game with 398 yards passing and tied a career-high with four touchdowns. Mike Williams had 165 receiving yards and caught two TD passes for the Chargers, off to their first 4-1 start since 2014.

— Justin Fields threw his first career touchdown pass and the Bears' defense was stellar in a 20-9 downing of the Raiders in Vegas. Jesper Horsted caught the first TD pass by Fields, who went 12 of 20 for 111 yards in his third career start. Derek Carr passed for 206 yards and Josh Jacobs rushed for a late touchdown in the Raiders' second consecutive loss.

— Jalen Hurts ran six yards for a touchdown with 2:38 left, completing the Eagles' comeback in a 21-18 downing of the Panthers. Hurts had a pair of scoring runs in the second half to help Philadelphia come back from a 12-point deficit. DaVonta Smith had seven catches for 77 yards and a 2-point conversion for the Eagles. 

— The Steelers' three-game losing streak is over after rookie Najee Harris ran for a season-high 122 yards in their 27-19 victory over the Broncos. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns while enjoying great protection all afternoon. Teddy Bridgewater completed 24 of 38 passes for 288 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns for Denver, which has dropped two straight since a 3-0 start.

— Jameis (JAY'-mihs) Winston connected on a Hail Mary for one of his four touchdown passes in the Saints' 33-22 downing of Washington. Winston connected with Marquez Callaway on the 49-yard TD on the final play of the first half after hitting Deonte Harris for a 72-yard score. Washington QB Taylor Heinicke was picked off twice while completing just 20 of his 41 passes for 248 yards and no touchdowns.

— Greg Joseph made a 54-yard field goal as time expired to give the Vikings a 19-17 victory over the winless Lions. Joseph made four field goals, including a career-best 55-yarder. Alexander Mattison provided 153 total yards and a second quarter touchdown catch for Minnesota.

— The Titans dealt the Jaguars their 20th consecutive loss as Derrick Henry ran for 130 yards and three touchdowns in Tennessee's 37-19 victory. The Jaguars fumbled on the third play of the game, with Kevin Byard scooping it up and running 30 yards for a score. Jacksonville also missed an extra point, dropped a potential pick-6, missed a 53-yard field goal and and was flagged for a phantom pass interference penalty on a third-down play.

— Nick Folk's 21-yard field goal with 15 seconds left lifted the Patriots to a 25-22 win over the Texans. Rookie Mac Jones threw a touchdown pass to tie it in the fourth quarter and engineered a 15-play, 85-yard drive that ended with Folk's fourth field goal of the day. Jones threw for 231 yards with a touchdown and an interception as the Patriots ended a two-game skid. 

— The Falcons were winners in London as Matt Ryan threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns in their 27-20 victory over the Jets. Rookie Kyle Pitts hauled in his first NFL TD catch and had nine rebounds for 119 yards in his finest game of the young season. Ryan completed 33 of 45 passes with no interceptions despite playing without his top two receivers. 

UNDATED (AP) — The Boston Red Sox used extra innings to take a two-games-to-one lead over the top-seeded Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series.

Christian Vazquez slammed a two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th to give the Red Sox a 6-4 win over the Rays. 

The Red Sox were ahead, 4-2 in the eighth inning before Wander Franco homered and Randy Arozarena (ah-roh-zah-REH'-nah) tied it with an RBI double. Franco also scored on Austin Meadows' two-run homer in the first inning.

It was 4-all when Yandy Diaz singled with one out in the 13th and came around to score on a double by Kevin Kiermaier that glanced off the right field wall, caromed off outfelder Hunter Renfroe and flew into the bullpen.

Umpires conferred and went to the headsets before correctly awarding Kiermaier a ground rule double, sending Diaz back to third.

Boston's Kike (KEE'-kay) Hernandez made it 4-2 with his seventh consecutive hit, a solo homer in the fifth. He also singled home a run.

Kyle Schwarber also homered for the Red Sox, who can wrap up the series on Monday.

Meanwhile, the White Sox have avoided a three-game sweep in the AL Division Series by turning a 5-1 deficit into a 12-6 rout of the Astros. 

The game changed in the third inning as Yasmani Grandal (yahs-MAH'-nee grahn-DAHL') smacked a two-run homer and Leury (lay-OOR'-ee) Garcia delivered a three-run blast.

Grandal also was hit by a throw in a three-run fourth, allowing Luis Robert to come home and put the White Sox ahead to stay.

The Astros lost despite Kyle Tucker's two-run homer and two-run double.

Garcia had four ribbies for the White Sox, who host Game 4 on Monday.

Bulldogs top poll as Tide fall to 5th...Iowa No. 2, Cincy 3rd

UNDATED (AP) — Georgia is the new No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll, taking the top spot in the regular season for the first time since 1982.

The Bulldogs claimed all 62 first-place votes following their lopsided win over Auburn and Alabama's loss at Texas A&amp;M. The Crimson Tide slipped from first to fifth following their first loss in 20 games.

Iowa moved up a spot to second and is followed by Cincinnati and Oklahoma, giving hope for some fresh blood in the CFP semifinals. Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Oregon and Michigan State round out the top 10, with five of those spots occupied by Big 10 teams.

Auburn fell out of the poll and Texas A&amp;M re-emerged at 21 following the Aggies' win over the Tide.

Larson overcomes mechanical issues to win at The Roval

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Kyle Larson rallied from early electrical issues Sunday to win for the seventh time this season and storm into the third round of NASCAR's playoffs. 

Larson's victory on The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway was his seventh of the season. Larson and reigning Cup champion Chase Elliott moved into the round of eight, but Alex Bowman and William Byron were eliminated.

Elliott was nearly sabotaged by a vengeful Kevin Harvick who was seeking payback after Elliott cost him a win three weeks ago.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Sungjae Im carded seven birdies in eight holes around the turn for a four-shot victory at the PGA Shriners Children's Open.

Im was among four players who had at least a share of the lead on the front nine before his birdie blitz led to a 9-under 62 and a 24-under total.

Matthew Wolff was second, one in front of Rory Sabbatini, Marc Leishman (LEESH'-man) and Adam Schenk.

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. (AP) — Jin Young Ko has won a tournament while tying an impressive scoring record. She finished off a wire-to-wire victory in the LPGA's Cognizant Founders Cup, closing with a 5-under 66 for an 18-under total.

Ko has strung together 14 consecutive rounds in the 60, tying the mark set by Annika Sorenstam in 2005.

Ko joined Nelly Korda as the only three-time winners on the LPGA Tour this season.

Caroline Masson finished four shots back in second.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Phil Mickelson has won for the third time in four career starts on the PGA Tour Champions, closing with a 4-under 68 for a two-shot victory over Miguel Angel Jimenez in the Constellation Furyk &amp; Friends.

The 51-year-old Mickelson won for the first time since his out-of-nowhere triumph at the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island in May for his sixth career major title. 

Jimenez pulled even with Lefty with back-to-back birdies on the back nine, but Mickelson birdied 15 to move back in front for good.

Rangers reach eight-year deal with Zibanejad

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Rangers and top center Mika Zibanejad (MEE'-kah zih-BAN'-eh-jad) have agreed to an eight-year contract worth $68 million. 

Zibanejad will count $8.5 million against the salary cap beginning next season and through 2029-30. 

The 28-year-old Swede was almost a point-a-game player last season with 24 goals and 26 assists in 50 games despite a slow start. Zibanejad has 283 points in 323 regular-season games since the Rangers acquired him from Ottawa in 2016. 

PANAMA CITY, Panama (AP) — Anibal Godoy scored in the 54th minute as Panama upended the United States 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier.

American coach Gregg Berhalter started a largely second-string lineup in the middle of another hectic stretch of three matches in seven days. 

The U.S. has eight points after five of 14 games, ahead of Panama on goal difference, heading into Wednesday night's match against Costa Rica at Columbus, Ohio.

Freshman Hadlie Lowe posted her second hat trick of the season and scored the game winner with a little more than 10 minutes remaining to help the Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team to a come-from-behind 3-2 Jayhawk Conference victory over Kansas City on Saturday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Tied at 2-all late in the second half, Kansas City committed a foul deep in the Hutchinson defensive end of the field. Lani Dickinson took a long cross-field free kick near midfield, spun away from a Blue Devil defender and took a couple of dribbles upfield. Dickinson then split a pair of KCK defenders with a perfect through-ball to Lowe on the left side of the box. Lowe finished with a strong left-footed shot on the ground past Kansas City keeper Leah Williams with 10:16 to for a 3-2 Dragon lead.

Blue Dragon goalkeeper Olivia Felix-Cardona made two saves after the Dragons took the lead and secured the victory. Hutchinson improved to 5-4-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the Jayhawk West. Kansas City is 4-5 overall and 4-5 in the Jayhawk East. The Blue Dragons play host to Garden City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Lowe scored her ninth, 10th and 11th goals of the season with her second hat trick of the season. She also scored her fifth game-winning goal of the season, which ties Jen Rogers for fifth on the Blue Dragon Freshman list for game winners and sixth with Rogers, Alaina Hudson, Stephanie Franz and Sheena Nicol on the Blue Dragon single-season game-winning goals list.

The Blue Dragons rallied from a halftime deficit for the second time this season and for only the sixth time in program history.

Hutchinson trailed 1-0 at halftime as the Blue Devils had a strong south wind at their backs and scored with an Addison Leonard goal in the 11th minute.

The Blue Dragons scored two goals 1:06 apart in the second half to take the lead. Lowe scored from a Jordan Crone assist to the game at 1-all with 34:36 to play. Just 1:06 later, Lowe blasted a shot from 18 yards out for a 2-1 lead. Dickinson and D’Naeya Gray had the assists.

Kansas City took advantage of a quick counter and knotted the score at 2-all on a Kathleen Oelschlager goal with 22:02 to play in the second half.

When Lowe scored her third goal of the second half to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead, that was the 23rd time for a Blue Dragon to score three or more goals in a second half and the 44th time for a Blue Dragon to have at least three goals in a half in team history.

Hutchinson out-shot Kansas City 21-19. Felix-Cardona had five saves. Williams had four saves for the Devils.

Hutchinson is now 5-0-1 all-time against Kansas City.

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday in a Texas two-step of sorts of the final day of the Grizzly Invitational at the West Plains Civic Center.

Hutchinson’s day started off with No. 12 Tyler Junior College sweeping the Blue Dragons 25-21, 25-10, 25-19, but came back strong in the final match of the day with a sweep of Trinity Valley, 25-12, 26-24, 25-21.

The Blue Dragons are now 16-12 overall. Hutchinson will play host to the Colby Trojans at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

The Hutchinson-Trinity Valley match was the third meeting of the season between the Blue Dragons and Cardinals with each team owning one victory. Thanks to a balanced offensive attack and another superb defensive performance, the Blue Dragons were able to win the third meeting of the season.

Freshman Sophie Connor snapped out of a recent offensive slump to lead the Blue Dragons against Trinity Valley with 12 kills. Connor posted her first double-double of the season with 11 digs.

Sophomore Kristina Head finished with 11 kills, five total blocks, including one solo stuff. Freshman Blondie Penaflor added seven kills.

Freshman setter McKinley Johnson had 21 assists and freshman Andrea Serrano added 17 assists.

Sophomore libero Shelby Reeder finished with 18 digs. Morgan Harvey had 12 digs and three total blocks.

The Blue Dragons for a good portion of the first and third sets against Trinity Valley, but had to rally from six points down to win the second set 26-24.

Against No. 12 Tyler, Penaflor led the Blue Dragons with nine kills. Head and Harvey had five kills each. Serrano had 19 assists and Johnson added six.

Dragons go 1-1 against pair of Texas foes in West Plains

VICTORIA – Sophomore Louise Cocking posted her ninth career Top 10 finish while fellow sophomores Noelle Higaldo and Jurney Yung both ran for personal records as the Hutchinson Community College women’s cross country team tied for eighth on Saturday at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open at the Sand Plum Nature Course.

The Blue Dragons tied NAIA program Wayland Baptist University for eighth place in the Black Division (NJCAA and NAIA runners) with 198 points. Cloud County won the team title with 68 points. Dodge City was second with 93.

Cocking had her fourth Top 10 finish of her sophomore season with a ninth-place performance in a time of 19:11.67. Cocking was the only Blue Dragon to finish in the Top 40 of a tremendous 134-runner field.

Hidalgo, who missed one race because of injury this season, posted a career-low 5,000-meter time in 20:36.46. Hidalgo finished 41st overall. Yung ran a career-best time of 22:04.86 and placed 76th overall.

Three Blue Dragon freshman set PRs on Saturday.

Anastasia Meyer placed 45th in a career-low time of 20:40.06. Michele Gage placed 64th in a personal-best time of 21:35.28. Sydney Grauer also had a season-low time of 22:02.32, which was 72nd overall.

Sophomore Izzy Wheeler has a season’s-best time of 22:12.61 to finished 81st overall.

Freshman Aidyn White placed 89th in a time of 22:57.06.

Wayland Baptist runner Teresha Jacobs was the individual winner with a time of 18:12.71

The Blue Dragons next run at the Region VI Championships on October 30 in Colby.

Dragon women tie for 8th at Fort Hays State

VICTORIA – Freshman Collin Oswalt and sophomores Andrew Holt and Aaron Geissinger all posted personal best times to lead the Hutchinson Community College men’s cross country team on Saturday at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open at the Sand Plum Nature Course.

Oswalt was the Blue Dragons’ top finisher for the fourth-straight race this season. The freshman finished 15th in the Black Race’s 196-runner field. The Black race consisted off junior college and NAIA runners.

Oswalt posted a season-best best 8,000-meter time of 25 minutes, 15.98 seconds.

Holt, a third-year sophomore, had his second career PR of the season with a time of 26:05.66.

Geissinger, a sophomore, posted his third-straight PR with a time of 27:42.33. Geissinger finished 72nd.

The only Blue Dragon not to run a PR was freshman Camilo Tarin, who finished 59th in a time of 27:24.48

The Blue Dragons had only four runners in the race and weren’t able to post a team score.

Cloud County won the Black Division with 95 points. Colby was second at 107. Northwest Tech’s Vincent Nchogu was the individual winner with a time of 23:35.87.

Gay offered no specifics in the tweet, which was posted soon after Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Gay was excused from practice for “personal reasons.” 

Gay, 23, returned to practice just this week after coming off injured reserve. Gay hurt his toe and landed on the IR list in early September, and the Chiefs now have a 21-day window to activate him.

Chiefs linebacker tweets after being excused from practice

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — "It stings a lot," head coach Drew Dallas said after Saturday afternoon's contest between No. 3 Independence and No. 13 Hutchinson Community College.

The game was decided on the very last play from scrimmage.

Hutchinson raced out to a 21-7 lead at halftime behind three Dylan Laible first-quarter touchdown passes. Laible picked up where he left off in Garden City (5 of 6 for 124 and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter) with 9 of 11 passing for 148 yards and three TDs in the first quarter of play.

Laible's hot start began when he hit Demariyon Houston for an 18-yard touchdown with 7:13 left in the first quarter. He torched the strong Independence defense (allowing just 9.4 ppg) less than three minutes later on a 40-yard score to Malik Benson.

R.J. Walker would answer with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Malik Mullins.

With four seconds left in the first quarter, Laible connected with Cortez Braham for a 27-yard touchdown. Neither team would score in the second quarter as both teams traded interceptions just before the half.

The Blue Dragons (2-3) took a 14-point lead into the locker room.

Independence quarterback R.J. Walker struggled, especially when driving into the wind. He finished 8 of 21 for 95 yards with a touchdown and interception. He was sacked twice.

Walker was replaced in the third quarter by Tyriq Starks. Immediately, the Independence offense looked different.

Starks was still sacked twice by the Dragon defense, but he threw 15 0f 22 for 251 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 40 rushing yards.

Starks quickly put 10 points on the board for Independence in two drives. His first drive into the wind resulted in a 15-yard touchdown pass to Deontay Wilson.

Anwar Lewis answered that score with a 31-yard sprint to the end zone. With 5:36 left in the third quarter, Hutchinson led 28-14. Brandon Gielow connected on a 28-yard field goal to pull Independence within 11.

Just seconds into the fourth quarter, disaster struck on a sack-fumble of Dylan Laible in Dragon territory. The Pirate defense scooped up the ball in the red zone. It took five plays for Starks to find Wilson from five yards away. The two-point conversion failed and Hutchinson held on to a 28-23 advantage with 12:43 left.

"We lost the football game by turning the ball over and giving up explosive plays," Dallas said.

The most explosive play came with just 16 seconds left.

Hutchinson was clinging to a 28-26 advantage after the defense held Independence to a 22-yard field goal with 5:38 to play.

The Dragon offense could not get a final first down with 57 seconds left and had to punt.

With 16 seconds left, Independence moved the ball to its own 47-yard line. The Pirates had no timeouts, but a Dragon injury forced the officials to stop the clock.

When play resumed, Starks once again found Wilson on an intermediate throw. Wilson turned on the jets and sprinted down the sideline, escaping three Dragon defenders for the go-ahead score.

Two 15-yard penalties, one after the 53-yard touchdown and one after the extra point, forced the Pirates to kick from their own 10.

Dylan Kedzior couldn't find much room as the last six seconds ticked off the clock.

Former Pirate Nadame Tucker had seven tackles, three tackles-for-loss and a sack against his former team.

Ja'Mez Drummer led Hutchinson with eight tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks.

Anwar Lewis turned in his third-straight 100-yard performance. He ran for 123 yards and one touchdown.&nbsp;

Malik Benson caught six passes for 107 yards and one touchdown.

Hutchinson will travel to Highland (1-4) next Saturday.

Laible picked up where he left off in Garden City (5 of 6 for 124 and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter) with 9 of 11 passing for 148 yards and three TDs in the first quarter of play.Laible's hot start began when he hit Demariyon Houston for an 18-yard touchdown with 7:13 left in the first quarter. He torched the strong Independence defense (allowing just 9.4 ppg) less than three minutes later on a 40-yard score to Malik Benson.R.J. Walker would answer with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Malik Mullins.With four seconds left in the first quarter, Laible connected with Cortez Braham for a 27-yard touchdown. Neither team would score in the second quarter as both teams traded interceptions just before the half.The Blue Dragons (2-3) took a 14-point lead into the locker room.Independence quarterback R.J. Walker struggled, especially when driving into the wind. He finished 8 of 21 for 95 yards with a touchdown and interception. He was sacked twice.Walker was replaced in the third quarter by Tyriq Starks. Immediately, the Independence offense looked different.Starks was still sacked twice by the Dragon defense, but he threw 15 0f 22 for 251 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon Gielow connected on a 28-yard field goal to pull Independence within 11.Just seconds into the fourth quarter, disaster struck on a sack-fumble of Dylan Laible in Dragon territory. The Pirate defense scooped up the ball in the red zone. It took five plays for Starks to find Wilson from five yards away. The two-point conversion failed and Hutchinson held on to a 28-23 advantage with 12:43 left."We lost the football game by turning the ball over and giving up explosive plays," Dallas said.The most explosive play came with just 16 seconds left.Hutchinson was clinging to a 28-26 advantage after the defense held Independence to a 22-yard field goal with 5:38 to play.The Dragon offense could not get a final first down with 57 seconds left and had to punt.With 16 seconds left, Independence moved the ball to its own 47-yard line. The Pirates had no timeouts, but a Dragon injury forced the officials to stop the clock.When play resumed, Starks once again found Wilson on an intermediate throw. HUTCHINSON, Kan. - There could be a significant shakeup in the NJCAA Football Rankings after Week 6 and the Hutchinson Community College Football team could be a major part of that shift.

The No. 13-ranked Blue Dragons play host to No. 3 Independence in a Noon Jayhawk Conference kickoff at Gowans Stadium. That game is one of three games in the NJCAA featuring ranked teams squaring off. The others are No. 1 Snow playing host to No. 4 Iowa Western (2 p.m. CT) and No. 12 Monroe playing host to No. 11 Lackawanna (6 p.m. CT).

The Blue Dragons put themselves in position to get back into both the KJCCC and national pictures following an 0-2 start to the season after last week's 24-16 road victory over then-No. 8 Garden City to even their overall and league record to 2-2. Hutchinson returned to the NJCAA national rankings at No. 13.

The Pirates have won seven games in a row dating back to last season.

Independence boasts the third-best scoring defense and the second-best total defense in the NJCAA to this point in the season. The Pirates are allowing averages of 9.4 points and 161.2 total yards per game. Indy's rush defense ranks third in the NJCAA (45.2 yards per game) and fourth in pass defense (116.0 yards per game). The Pirates have forced 21 takeaways and lead the nation with 22 quarterback sacks.

Saturday's matchup between the Blue Dragon and Pirates will be the 85th overall meeting in a series that dates back to 1930. The Blue Dragons have more wins over Independence than any other opponent. The Dragons lead the overall series 56-23-5.

Last season at Independence, the Blue Dragons earned a huge 42-24 win over No. 7 Independence. Laible replaced an injured C.J. Ogbonna and threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns.

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Sophomore libero Shelby Reed had 36 digs and the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team rallied 12 blocks in a four-set victory over Jefferson College in the Blue Dragons’ second match on Friday at Grizzly Invitational at the West Plains Civic Center.

The Blue Dragons had a 1-1 day in Day 1. Hutchinson opened with a 3-0 loss to No. 8 Missouri State-West Plains (16-25, 16-25, 20-25) and then defeated Jefferson (25-15, 25-20, 17-25, 25-18).

Hutchinson is now 15-11 for the season. The Blue Dragons take on No. 12 Tyler Junior College at Noon on Saturday and will play Trinity Valley for the third time this season at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Reeder’s 36 digs are a career high for the sophomore libero and unofficially ties Samantha Lackey’s single-match record of 36 digs set in 2014. The record-tying performance will be verified later this weekend.

In addition to Reeder’s tremendous performance, sophomore Kristina Head had 12 digs, sophomore Zoe Schmidt had nine digs and freshman Morgan Harvey had eight digs. Schmidt and Harvey led a strong block at the next with nine and eight total blocks, respectively.

Harvey had a season-high 14 kills to lead the Blue Dragons past the Vikings. Head finished with eight kills, freshman Baylee Miller and Schmidt had five kills each. Freshman Setter Andrea Serrano had 20 assists.

Hutchinson is 2-0 over Jefferson this season.

West Plains defeated the Blue Dragons for the second time this season with a sweep in the tournament opener.

Reeder had another strong defensive match with 17 digs.

Head led the Dragons with 10kills, six digs and two blocks.

Miller had six kills and Chloe Conway finished with five kills. Conway, Cameron Letcher and Tauja Durham had two block assists each.

Dragons go 1-1 at West Plains on Day 1 of Grizzly Invite

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Major League Soccer suspended Sporting Kansas City midfielder Felipe Hernandez without pay for the rest of the season Friday for violating the league’s gambling integrity rules and standards of conduct. 

MLS said Hernandez engaged in extensive and unlawful sports gambling, including placing wagers on two MLS matches, in direct contravention of league rules. MLS said it initiated an investigation July 5 after Hernandez disclosed to Sporting Kansas City that he was concerned about his personal safety due to gambling debts. 

Born in Colombia and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, the 23-year-old Hernandez had had a goal and two assists in six games this season. He will eligible for reinstatement Jan. 1.
