LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;The Kansas Jayhawks return home to David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Saturday, November 5 to host the No. 18 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. The game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT on FS1, with Tim Brando (Play-by-Play) and Spencer Tillman (Analyst) on the call.

Kansas (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) enters Saturday’s contest fresh off two straight road games, followed by an open week. The Jayhawks return home with a 3-1 record at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium this season, with wins against Tennessee Tech, Duke and Iowa State this season.

No. 18 Oklahoma State (6-2, 3-2 Big 12) enters Saturday’s game after losing two of its last three games after starting the season 5-0. Most recently, Oklahoma State fell to Kansas State, 48-0 on Oct. 29.

The meeting between the two teams will be the 73rd&nbsp;in the series history, with Oklahoma State holding the advantage at 40-29-3. Kansas last beat Oklahoma State in 2007 in Stillwater but haven’t beaten the Cowboys in Lawrence since 1994. Oklahoma State holds a 22-15-1 advantage in games played in Lawrence all-time.

Kansas enters its showdown with the Cowboys in search of its sixth win of the season, which would make the Jayhawks bowl eligible for the first time since 2008.

Throughout the season, Kansas has seen drastic improvement in several statistical categories, ranking fifth in the country in passing efficiency (173.51), fourth in third down conversions (53.8%), third in fewest sacks allowed (0.62) and seventh in yards per play (7.13).

The improvements have shown on the scoreboard as Kansas has scored 42 total touchdowns in eight games this season, marking the most touchdowns in a season since the Jayhawks scored 42 in 12 games in 2009. Kansas’ average margin of defeat this year has fallen to 9.7, as compared to 26.1 a season ago. Since 2009, the lowest margin of defeat for the Jayhawks came that season when it was 14.4.

Defensively, Kansas linebacker Rich Miller has led the charge for the Jayhawks, totaling 63 tackles, which ranks sixth in the Big 12 this season. Safety Kenny Logan Jr. ranks seventh in the conference with 61 tackles, while defensive end Lonnie Phelps ranks third in the Big 12 with six sacks this season.

"Whole interaction was in jest as all the fans around you were just saying hello in their native tongue," Verlander tweeted several hours later. "So I responded in kind ... all in good fun. I enjoyed the banter."

One more finger, of course, than you'd need to count the Astros ace's World Series wins, 0-6 with a 6.07 ERA in eight starts.

Also the number of days Game 3 of the World Series was delayed — postponed by rain with the matchup tied 1-1, pushing the entire Fall Classic schedule back one day.

"We waited long enough that we can see on the radar what's coming," baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said. "We had three, actually four different weather people looking at it. Everyone was consistent about this second wave of rain."

The rainout moved Game 3 to Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park, when the weather was supposed to be all clear and first lady Jill Biden had planned to attend Game 4. There was a smattering of boos at the ballpark when the washout was announced an hour before the scheduled first pitch on Halloween night.

Game 4 will now be played Wednesday and Game 5 is set for the scheduled travel day on Thursday night — Game 5 will compete with the NFL game that has, of all teams, the Philadelphia Eagles in Houston against the Texans.

There will be a travel day on Friday if necessary. That had been the original date of Game 6.

Game 6 has been rescheduled for Saturday and Game 7 would be Sunday. All games will start at 8:03 p.m. ET.

There has not been a World Series day game since 1987, and it appeared there was little discussion about turning Game 5 on Thursday into a late-afternoon start and keep it away from the NFL as it reigns as a ratings juggernaut. The Eagles-Texans game will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The World Series airs on Fox.

"For the World Series, an important consideration for us is having the biggest audience we can possibly get, and that's a prime-time audience. That's the reality," Manfred said. "We think we have a great product that fans want to see. And we're going to put the games on when it makes sense to play the games and hope to get a good audience."

Houston right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. is set to pitch against Phillies lefty Ranger Suárez in Game 3. Noah Syndergaard had been scheduled to start for Philadelphia before the rainout.

"It affects both teams. You just have to turn it off, get a good night's rest and be ready to play tomorrow," Astros manager Dusty Baker said. "It's part of the game. You can't control the weather, so you just deal with it."

Phillies manager Rob Thomson was fine with the decision by Major League Baseball to postpone the game.

"Everybody would rather play in dry conditions. It's going to be fair for everybody," he said.

For fans, tickets that were good for Monday night now become valid for Tuesday's game, when the calendar rolls over to November.

Game 1 starter Aaron Nola will start for the Phillies in Game 4 against Cristian Javier. Either Syndergaard or Kyle Gibson will start Game 5 for the Phils. Game 2 starter Zack Wheeler takes the mound for Game 6 on extra rest, setting up Suárez to start a possible Game 7 in Houston.

Thomson felt confident turning to Suárez in Game 7 even though he was roughed up by the Astros for six runs in three innings on Oct. 4 in his final start of the season.

"Some guys get sped up, get a little excited," Thomson said. "Some guys, their heartbeat stays the same, and Ranger is one of those guys."

Phillies righty Kyle Gibson could start Game 5 if the Phillies turn to Syndergaard in the bullpen in either of the next two games. Syndergaard went to the outfield after the postponement for some light long tossing in the rain.

Gibson would be a stretch after he went 10-8 in 31 starts but none since Oct. 1. His only postseason appearance was 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in Game 2 of the NLCS on Oct. 19 against the Padres. Gibson went 1-3 with a 9.79 ERA over his last six regular-season starts. Thomson said he could get 60-65 pitches out of Gibson.

The Astros and Phillies both worked out on the field Monday before the tarp was put down around 5 p.m. It started to rain about an hour later.

"I'm glad we took some batting practice and played some balls off the wall. That's their real home-field advantage," Baker said.

And once again, rain intruded on the World Series in Philly.

In 2008, the clinching Game 5 actually took three days to play. The Phillies and Tampa Bay were tied when the game was suspended and, after steady rain the next day, Philadelphia won the World Series a day after that.

The start of World Series games in Philadelphia in 1993, at Veterans Stadium, and 2009, at Citizens Bank Park, were delayed by rain. This year, the Phillies clinched the NL Championship Series with a win against San Diego on a rainy, gusty Sunday.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– For a third time this season Kansas State had a pair of players earn weekly honors from the conference, as junior quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/football/roster/will-howard/7941">Will Howard</a>&nbsp;was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and senior punter/kicker&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/football/roster/ty-zentner/8000">Ty Zentner</a>&nbsp;earned Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week accolades, the conference office announced Monday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It is the first honor for each player and gives K-State eight Big 12 weekly honors this season, the second most in the conference (Oklahoma State – 9) and its most since the Wildcats had nine in 2012. In addition to his weekly conference honor, Howard was also named a Manning Award Star of the Week and is in the running for Manning Award Quarterback of the Week via a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=allstatesugarbowl&amp;set=a.10166602353855459">vote on Facebook</a>. Howard tied the school record with four touchdown passes in K-State's 48-0 win over No. 9 Oklahoma State. The junior was 21-of-37 for 296 passing yards with no interceptions as he set a new career high in yards and tied his career high in completions. Each of Howard's touchdown passes came in the first half as he became just the third quarterback in school history to throw four touchdown passes in a half, the other two being Michael Bishop (1997 vs. Northern Illinois) and Paul Watson (1988 vs. Louisiana Tech). Garrett, who came to FirstEnergy Stadium wearing a Halloween costume, led a scary defense that sacked Burrow five times and held the Bengals to 229 total yards — 100 in the first half. Burrow has already been to the Super Bowl in just three NFL seasons. However, the Ohio native has yet to beat Cleveland, dropping to 0-4 in four career starts against Cincinnati’s AFC North rival. The Browns ended a four-game losing streak, and in the process saved their season from slipping away. Jacoby Brissett had a TD run and pass for Cleveland.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn has fired coach Bryan Harsin after less than two full seasons, ending a rocky tenure in which the Tigers struggled to compete in the Southeastern Conference. Harsin went 9-12 overall and 3-5 this year. Auburn has lost four straight games while struggling against Power Five opponents, including a 41-27 loss to Arkansas on Oct. 29. Auburn will owe Harsin 70% of his remaining contract, which adds up to more than $15 million. Half of that must be paid within 30 days. Harsin was hired away from Boise State in December 2020 and Auburn gave him a 6-year, $31.5 million deal. He never came close to replicating his past success.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — A person with knowledge of the deal says the Chicago Bears have agreed to trade linebacker Roquan Smith to the Baltimore Ravens. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade has not been announced. Smith is the NFL leader in tackles so far this season. He joins a Baltimore team that has won two in a row and sits atop the AFC North. The Ravens have had their issues defensively this season, but they’ve improved in that area and now add a second-team All-Pro to their linebacking group.

Sports Headlines for Tuesday

After their Homecoming performance during Saturday’s night Blue Dragon-Highland football game, there was a little surprise in store for the Hutchinson Community College Cheer Squad and Dragon Dolls Dance Team.

The surprise came as a message on the DragonVision videoboard after their performance from none other than Monica Aldama, the Navarro College cheer squad head coach, who along with her team, have become a nationwide sensation on the NetFlix documentary series “Cheer.”

“I’m excited to announce your time has finally come. The (Blue Dragon) Spirit Squad is headed to NCA Nationals,” Aldama told the Blue Dragon cheer squad on the video.

The Blue Dragon Spirit Squad will compete at the National Cheerleaders Association College Nationals on April 5-9 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

This will be the cheer squad’s first appearance for the competition since 2008. The dance team will be making its nationals debut in 2023.

“Hutch Cheer hasn't competed at NCA since the early 2000s so we are excited to put Hutch back on the map,” second-year Blue Dragon Spirit Squad head coach Sami Bell said. “The dance team will be making their debut in Daytona as well so this will be a game changer for the program as a whole.

“Our idea of being a great program is to compete at our highest level amongst the best of the best. We are excited to do that and see what we are truly capable of.”

A former Blue Dragon cheerleader in 2014-15 and 2015-16 from Midlothian, Texas, Bell has brought great energy to the program. She was hired as the program’s assistant coach in 2020-21 and was named head coach one season later.

In her first season leading the Blue Dragon Spirit Squad in 2021-22, Bell’s teams earned two Region VI championships – Large Coed Division and Dance Team Hip-Hop.

“Attending NCA College Nationals is a huge goal for our programs,” Bell said. “The Spirit Squad wouldn't be able to reach this goal and participate if it wasn't for the support of Blue Dragon Athletics and our community.”

HutchCC Cheer headed to nationals

SAN SABA, Texas&nbsp;– High school football players in one Texas town have been scoring touchdowns on top of an old graveyard for nearly 90 years.

Texas Football Life, a culture-based Twitter account, shared the fascinating fact on Thursday stating that Rogan Field in San Saba was built on top of a cemetery.

KSAT reached out to the district and librarian Deanne Cromer shared some old newspaper clippings that provide more inside into the field’s history.

The land was first donated by Dr. J.C. Rogan in 1858 for San Saba’s first cemetery. By 1878 the county’s commissioner’s court prohibited further use of the cemetery, according to a clipping from the&nbsp;Standard-Times&nbsp;provided by Cromer.

By 1910, Rogan’s descendants regained control of the land after a local church failed to maintain the cemetery.

Around 1934-35, family members who had loved ones in Rogan’s cemetery were urged to exhume the bodies and bury them elsewhere, however, some families either couldn’t afford it or had already moved away.

“As a result, not all the graves were removed,” the&nbsp;Standard-Times&nbsp;clipping states.

Rogan Field was built on top of the site in 1935 for the San Saba High School football team and became widely referred to as the graveyard.

San Saba coaches in the early 90s started using the history of the land to their advantage.

“Sometimes a player from the other team will break into the open field, but he’ll trip and fall for no apparent reason. We’ll just laugh about it,” San Saba assistant football coach Ronnie Schulze told the paper. “Sometimes we’ll beat a team at home that we shouldn’t beat. We’ll just look at each other and grin about it.”

“At times when we played there, a player would trip in the open field and we always knew it was bc of a skeleton reaching up and grabbing us,” one Twitter user commented.

Fans who entered the stadium used to be greeted with a sign that read “Welcome to the Graveyard” when they arrived at the stadium.

The sign was removed after some people complained that it was disrespectful and it has since been lost.

A replica sign is now displayed on game days.

In August, a former San Saba student and football alum Jake Lackey told&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kwtx.com/2022/08/12/built-name-san-sabas-rogan-field/" target="_blank">KWTX&nbsp;</a>that the gridiron will likely always be grass as opposed to the typical turf fields many fields use today.

“You’ve got to have a drainage system for turf and you’ve got to dig down five, six, seven foot — well you start digging down five, six, seven foot you’re going to start hitting graves,” Lackey said.

San Saba is located about a two-hour drive northwest of downtown Austin.

🏈 Friday Night Frights: Texas high school football field built on top of old cemetery

The No. 19-ranked Hutchinson Community College Women's Soccer team scored the most goals ever in a matchup against Johnson County and needed every one of them to advance in the Region VI Tournament.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/maher_aimee_xuac">Aimee Maher</a>&nbsp;scored two goals, sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/miller_ella-mae_rctz">Ella-Mae Miller</a>&nbsp;had two assists and sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/lowe_hadlie_mqp8">Hadlie Lowe</a>&nbsp;tied a Blue Dragon career record with her 14th career game-winning goal as Hutchinson defeated Johnson County 4-3 in the opening round of the Region VI Tournament on Sunday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

The Blue Dragons (14-3) advance to the Region VI Tournament semifinals at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the Stryker Soccer Complex in Wichita. Hutchinson will face No. 5 Butler, a 5-1 quarterfinal winner over Dodge City on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

The Blue Dragons snapped a two-game postseason losing streak and a seven-game losing streak to Johnson County. Hutchinson's last win over the Cavaliers came in 2014 and last postseason victory over Johnson County was in 2011.

The four goals scored tied a 2011 game for most goals scored against Johnson County. The seven combined goals scored were most in the Hutchinson-Johnson County series history. Sunday was also the 16th one-goal game in the series' 24 all-time games played.

The Blue Dragons led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Maher. She scored her seventh goal of the season – a career high for Maher – just 2:31 into the game when she took a Miller cross and scored in the lower left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

After Lowe was taken down in the penalty box, Maher made it 2-0 with 24:21 to play in the half with her fifth career penalty kick.

The fireworks then began in the second half.

Just 1:24 into the half, Johnson County's Alandra Bailey scored to cut the Hutchinson lead to 2-1.

The Blue Dragons regained a two-goal lead when sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/scholl_emma_s6as">Emma Scholl</a>&nbsp;sliced a crossing pass into the goal for her third goal of the season. Miller was credited with her second assist of the game. Only 37 seconds later, Johnson County pulled within 3-2 on a Riley Porter goal with 21:30 to play in the second half.

The Dragons scored huge insurance goal with 3:44 remaining in the game when Lowe took a long pass from&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/wyatt_jayda_j0m6">Jayda Wyatt</a>&nbsp;and beat the Cavalier goalkeeper on a breakaway to give the Dragons a 4-2 lead.

The Cavaliers made one more run at the Dragons. Megan Everhart headed in a corner kick with 24 seconds remaining to cut the Dragon lead to 4-3.

The Blue Dragons were out-shot 25-16. Sophomore goalkeeper&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2022-23/bios/felix-cardona_olivia_1k3f">Olivia Felix-Cardona</a>&nbsp;(5-2) had a season-high seven saves.

Lowe's goal became her sixth game-winner of the season and tied Melissa Hetherington for the career record with her 14th career game-winning goal. She also became the 13th Blue Dragon to score 20 goals in a season.

Lowe also tied Jenny Yukich and Danielle Sheehy for sixth place on the Blue Dragon career goals list with 38. Now with 86 career points, Lowe moved past Pearl Slattery into 10th place on the career points list.

GAME NOTES&nbsp;– The 14 wins this season are the most since the 2016 season. … The Blue Dragons are now 24-17 overall in postseason play, 23-14 in the Region VI Tournament, 14-4 in the quarterfinals and 10-2 in home quarterfinal games. … The Dragons are now 8-15-1 all-time against Johnson County, including 3-6 in Region VI games.

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals are bringing in a new face to lead their big league club, officially hiring Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro as their manager on Sunday night.

Quatraro is the Royals’ 18th full-time manager in franchise history, the hire coming after the club parted ways with Mike Matheny following a 65-97 season. A long list of candidates had been narrowed down over the past three weeks -- but Quatraro had always been viewed as the favorite, sources told MLB.com.

Quatraro is the first key hire of J.J. Picollo’s tenure as executive vice president and general manager. In Kansas City, Quatraro will guide a young team oozing with potential. Thirteen Royals made their Major League debuts in 2022, and 21 rookies appeared in games this year, tied for third-most in franchise history behind 2004 (23) and ’02 (22).

With his coaching experience throughout the Minor Leagues, knowledge of how successful small-market clubs are run and the respect and admiration he’s garnered from players, Quatraro checked all the boxes for the Royals.&nbsp;

Quatraro signed a three-year contract with an option for 2026 with the Royals, per a source, and he will be formally introduced to the media Thursday morning at Kauffman Stadium.

“We are extremely excited to have Matt leading our club and core of talent,” Picollo said in the club’s statement announcing the hire. “Matt has great experiences throughout his career that have prepared him for this. He thoroughly impressed us all during our interview process and is clearly respected across the industry. We are looking forward to working alongside Matt to bring winning baseball to our great fans."

Quatraro, 48, spent the last five seasons on Kevin Cash’s staff in Tampa Bay, including one season as the third-base coach and four as the bench coach. The Rays reached the postseason in four of Quatraro's five years on their big league staff, including a World Series appearance in 2020.

Quatraro also served as Cleveland’s assistant hitting coach from 2014-17, overlapping with Royals owner John Sherman’s minority stake there. Quatraro's experience and success in both helped his candidacy in Kansas City, as Sherman views both Tampa Bay and Cleveland as models for small-market success.

On top of all that, Quatraro has the respect and adoration of players, coaches and executives from around the industry. He has interviewed for several managerial openings, including with the Pirates and Giants after the 2019 season, the Tigers after ’20, the A’s and Mets after ’21 and the Marlins this offseason before they hired Skip Schumaker -- allowing the Royals to finalize their offer.

In their new skipper, the Royals are looking for someone to shepherd their young core -- which includes Bobby Witt Jr., MJ Melendez, Vinnie Pasquantino and a slew of young pitchers -- to the next window of contention, and Quatraro receives high praise for his communication with players.

The Royals have not had a winning season since 2015, when they won the World Series.

"Matt is widely respected throughout baseball with a proven record and tangible contributions in two organizations that built winning cultures through creativity and innovation. A former catcher, corner infielder and outfielder, Quatraro played seven seasons in the Rays' organization, topping out in Triple-A. His coaching career began with the Rays in 2004, with coaching and managerial stints throughout the Minor Leagues. He also spent four years as the Minor League hitting coordinator for Tampa Bay.

Having hired their manager, the Royals and Quatraro will now turn to filling out the coaching staff. Their priority is hiring a new pitching coach after Cal Eldred was let go on the final day of the season. DODGE CITY – After dominating the first set, Little River found itself locked at a set apiece with Flinthills after the Mustangs swiped the momentum away in the Class 1A Division I volleyball final.&nbsp; Little River coach Kim Rolfs’ message to her team was simple: Don’t let the opportunity slip away.&nbsp; “I just told the kids, ‘You may never find yourselves in this situation again, cherish the moment and go out and do what we do and let it happen,’ ” Rolfs said.&nbsp; “The sport of volleyball is so tough because you have that rollercoaster, and you’ve got to ride that rollercoaster and hope you can get back up to the top and take that momentum," Rolfs added. It didn’t take long for Little River to regain its form from the first set, quickly taking control of the decisive set en route to a 25-11, 18-25, 25-9 win over Flinthills at United Wireless Arena to capture the school’s second state volleyball title and first since 1984.&nbsp; “I’m just super proud that they were able to hang in there," Rolfs said. "When we walked back on the court for that third set, I said ‘You’ve got to get yourself up. You can’t come out flat.' We won that first ball and I think that got them going.” “We just tried not to get down on ourselves and we knew we could win if we worked together,” Little River junior Alaina Eck said.&nbsp; Four of Little River’s five wins on the weekend went to three sets, including its pool play match against Flinthills. Little River (40-4) beat Pretty Prairie 25-16, 26-28, 25-21 in the semifinals.&nbsp; “I think this weekend we did the best we ever have with just letting go of the bad points and keep going,” Eck said.&nbsp; When things were looking bleak for Flinthills, the Mustangs found one last run in them. They lost junior Kolby Holcomb to a leg injury on Friday, and then sophomore Paige Corter also went down with a leg injury in the first set of the title match.&nbsp; “They just tried to find it within themselves to make it work,” Flinthills coach Crystal Ratcliff said. “We had to throw a defensive specialist on the front row, so they all kind of had to pick up their game at that moment and fought back to win that set. “I’m so proud of them. I couldn’t ask for anything better.” Led by an impressive junior class that includes standouts Eck, Aubrey Olander, Ashley Stephenson, Kate Ellwood and Kami Grasser, Litter River relies on a balanced attack. “This is the most balanced team I’ve ever had,” Rolfs said. “You look at setting a ball, and you can be more creative, as long as you have ball control. DODGE CITY, Kan— While keeping her team focused on the task at hand throughout the Class 2A tournament, Hillsboro coach Sandy Arnold couldn’t help but feel the Trojans were perhaps on a collision course with defending champion Smith Center for a rematch of last year's final.&nbsp; When that matchup came to fruition, a little extra motivation certainly didn’t hurt Hillsboro’s cause.&nbsp; “The last two years they’ve just totally dominated us,” Arnold said of the Lady Red. “(A rematch) was probably always in the back of my mind a little bit and in the girls’ minds.&nbsp; “We talked before we left the locker room after the Inman match (in the semifinal) that we had some unfinished business to do with Smith Center. They’re a very, very good team.” The Trojans weren’t going to be denied this time, cruising to a 25-12, 25-13 win over Smith Center in the championship match on Saturday at United Wireless Arena to earn redemption and complete a 44-1 season.&nbsp; Hillsboro controlled the match from the get-go, keeping a gritty Smith Center squad out of rhythm. “I didn’t feel we were completely focused (Friday for pool play),” Arnold said. “I thought we played a little tight and a little distracted. I think it was maybe the fact that we wanted it so badly. “I asked them to bring that hype and bring that emotion and passion, because that’s why we’re playing this game, because we all love it. You got to show that (energy) out there, and they brought it.”

The Lady Red (40-5), who took a two-set win over Jefferson County North in the semifinal, struggled to string together a run against the Trojans, who were mistake-free for most of the match.&nbsp; “That’s the best team we’ve seen all year and (Coach Arnold) told me that’s the best they’ve played,” said Smith Center coach Nick Linn, who celebrated career win No. 1,000 last week. “Blocking was spot-on. Their serve-receive was really good. Their hitters are consistent and there’s a number of them. We got stuff blocked a ton.” Hillsboro relied on an aggressive attack fueled by junior outside hitters Zaylee Werth and Savannah Shahan.&nbsp; “We saw in pool play what happened when (opponents) attacked both those teams (Inman and Smith Center), and what happened when they didn’t attack both those teams,” Arnold said. “We saw that when they got attacked hard, they didn’t defend as well. That was our game plan to attack and make them make a play and get them out of system and give us easier balls to attack.” “We were on a mission and we delivered today,” said senior libero Kori Arnold, Coach Arnold’s daughter.&nbsp;

I’ve played volleyball since I can remember and she’s taught me absolutely everything I know about the game,” Kori said of her mother. “Losing last year (stunk), but to win it my fourth year with her by my side was really special.”

🏐 Hillsboro completes 'unfinished business,' wins rematch with Smith Center for 2A crown

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;The 15-6 (5-4 Big 12) Kansas Jayhawks will take on the 11-10 (1-8 Big 12) Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday (October 30) for the Jayhawks for a Cure match in front of a sold out crowd in Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena. The match will begin at 3 p.m. CT and will be broadcast by ESPNU.

The Sooners lead the Jayhawks in the all-time series record 54-42. KU and Oklahoma last met on September 28, when the Jayhawks swept the Sooners 3-0. Redshirt freshman Ayah Elnady led the Kansas offense with 14 kills, hitting .481. Three Jayhawks recorded double digit kills, Elnady (14), sophomore Caroline Bien (11) and super-senior Rachel Langs (10). Sophomore Camryn Turner collected 33 assists and five digs. Junior Kennedy Farris tallied 13 digs and three assists. Langs had five total blocks in the three sets. As a team. Kansas hit .385 and held OU to .165 hitting.

Kansas will remain in Lawrence, Kansas as they take on the Kansas State Wildcats in a sold out Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena on November 2. The match will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with first serve at 6:30 p.m. CT.

The No. 19-ranked Hutchinson Community College Women's Soccer Team will open the postseason on Sunday at home.

The Blue Dragons (11-3) will open the 2022 Region VI Tournament against Johnson County (8-10) at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Salthawk Sports Complex. The game will be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network.

The Blue Dragons qualified for their 18th-straight postseason after finishing second in the Jayhawk West this season. Johnson County placed third in the Jayhawk East. The winner of the

Hutchinson-Johnson County match will play the Butler-Dodge City winner at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Stryker Soccer Complex in Wichita.

The Blue Dragons lost the only meeting with Johnson County this season, falling 3-1 on September 17 in Overland Park. The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Johnson County tied the match before halftime and scored two second-half goals to clinch the victory.

The Blue Dragons have dropped seven straight and 8 of 9 to the Cavaliers. This will be the ninth Region VI tournament meeting, but the first in the opening round. The Dragons are 2-6 against Johnson County in the Region VI Tournament.

HOUSTON (AP) — Framber Valdez made a five-run lead stand up after Houston's lightning first-inning burst, Alex Bregman homered and the Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 to tie the World Series at one game apiece. Just like in Game 1, the Astros rushed to a 5-0 lead. Unlike ace Justin Verlander in the opener, Valdez and Houston held on. Valdez rebounded from a pair of poor outings in last year's Series to pitch shutout ball into the seventh, and the bullpen survived a couple of jams to close things out. Jose Altuve, Jeremy Peña and Yordan Alvarez all doubled as Houston took a two-run lead four pitches in against Zack Wheeler. An error allowed another run in the first and Bregman added a two-run homer in the fifth.

Michigan State players rough up Michigan players in tunnel

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State players roughed up Michigan defensive back Ja'Den McBurrows in the Michigan Stadium tunnel following their game Saturday night. After the fourth-ranked Wolverines beat the Spartans 29-7, at least three Michigan State players pushed, punched and kicked McBurrows in and near a hallway that does not lead to either locker room. A police investigation is underway. It is the second straight game at Michigan that included an altercation in the long, narrow tunnel that goes from the locker rooms to the field. Penn State coach James Franklin said a policy change was needed to keep the process of teams using the tunnel more orderly.

A person with knowledge of the matter says a female former San Antonio Spurs employee has alleged that now-former Spurs guard Josh Primo exposed himself in her presence. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no details had been revealed publicly by the Spurs, Primo or the accuser. Attorney Tony Buzbee confirmed to AP that he has been hired by "a former contractor" with the Spurs. He is the attorney who represented 24 women who sued Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, then of the Houston Texans, accusing him of sexual assault or harassment.

Phillies not worried about Astros' Valdez odd hand rubbing

HOUSTON (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson says he isn't concerned about Houston starter Framber Valdez's unusual hand rubbing during Game 2 of the World Series, downplaying speculation on social media that the left-hander was up to something fishy during a dominant victory. Videos circulating on the internet showed Valdez repeatedly rubbing his left thumb across his right palm, then rubbing the ball between pitches. Valdez pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning of the Astros' 5-2 victory, which evened the Series at a win each. NEW YORK (AP) — Kyrie Irving says he embraces all religions, defiantly defending his right to post whatever he believes after the Brooklyn Nets owner was disappointed that Irving appeared to back an antisemitic film. Irving says: "We're in 2022. History is not supposed to be hidden from anybody and I'm not a divisive person when it comes to religion." He added he embraced all walks of life and says that just because he posts about something doesn't mean he believes everything about it.

Duggan throws for 3 TDs, No. 7 TCU beats West Virginia 41-31

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — No. 7 TCU improved to 8-0 after a 41-31 victory at West Virginia. Max Duggan threw three touchdown passes and Kendre Miller ran for 120 yards and a score for the Horned Frogs. TCU didn't need a comeback from a double-digit deficit like it did in its two previous games. Duggan staked TCU to a 28-21 halftime lead and that held up. But West Virginia gave the Horned Frogs a fight. JT Daniels threw a 23-yard TD pass to Reese Smith with 4:12 left to cut the Mountaineers' deficit to 34-31. But Duggan found Savion Williams with a 29-yard scoring toss on fourth down with 20 seconds left.

Tuimoloau shines as No. 2 Ohio St beats No. 13 Penn St 44-31

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — J.T. Tuimoloau had a strip sack that set up No. 2 Ohio State for a separation-score in the fourth quarter and then a pick-6 to cap a spectacular performance by the defensive end as the Buckeyes beat No. 13 Penn State 44-31. C.J. Stroud passed for 354 yards and the Buckeyes extended their winning streak in the rivalry to six in a row. The Nittany Lions went up 21-16 with 9:26 remaining in the fourth quarter on a tough 1-yard touchdown run by Kaytron Allen on fourth down. Ohio State outscored Penn State 28-3 the rest of the way with Tuimoloau in the center of the rally.

Schwarber's 2 big swings go 756 feet, get Phillies nothing

HOUSTON (AP) — Kyle Schwarber had big swings on consecutive pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies when they needed a comeback in Game 2 of the World Series. But two drives that totaled 756 feet in the eighth inning didn't result in a much-needed home run. The Phillies go home even in the World Series after their 5-2 loss to the Houston Astros on Saturday night. The first ball off Schwarber's bat was ruled foul after a replay review — the slugger had already trotted around the bases. When Schwarber got back in the box, he hit a ball that was caught at the right-field wall.
